Steely had only been to Genesis island twice. The first time, for the Jgsei challenge... shortly before she had gotten hurt. The second time, more recently, was the Halloween maze. She hated to admit it, but she'd almost been avoiding the place. At first, because it had stolen a friend from her team. Then, because of what some men in black suits had told her. Today, though, she didn't think it was a good idea to avoid it any longer. Despite her biggest problem being removed from existence, she still continued buying and scouring the news papers, mostly for lack of anything better to do while she lazed around at home. Ever since returning from her trip to Jgsei, she hadn't gone on another major adventure, which meant just about a year of doing a whole lot of 'not much'. The only reason she was considering breaking the streak was because she wasn't thinking she had much choice in the matter. "As much as I would like to forget," Steely said aloud to the silent, giant dog standing next to her. "This article here talks about the mountains south-west of Ashdell, and someone disappearing. That's where Black Pass is," she folded the paper clipping carefully, pocketing it while leaning against her cane. The giant white dog, Becquerel, had appeared on the former site of the corn maze with his owner sitting on his back. Steely had slid off to look around; the grounds were still mostly flattened, sparse winter grass cropping up in cracks on the trampled ground. Steely sighed quietly to herself, looking at the hotel in the distance. "I'm not bringing it up to Cerby... and the only other person from our team that knows about that is Alex... and I'm not telling him either. So that leaves... Floyd," she looked at Bec, who looked back silently. The white dog wasn't going to say anything, and she knew it, but thinking aloud helped. By now, she knew her courage wasn't going to amp up anymore, so she returned the dog to his ball, and limped towards the hotel. If anyone questioned her for her sudden appearance, at least she could see if she could get to Floyd faster. Otherwise, she'd have to just walk into the hotel and ask for him, she supposed. Unless the Sunflare was obviously sitting somewhere. Team: I'll declare when it's relevant, I guess? I've been holding onto these eggs, though, for a long fucking time, so I'm gonna drop them here so they can finally get hatched. "How many assholes we got on this ship anyhow?"
|
3LP The big black ship WAS obviously sitting somewhere. It was out over the ocean a short way, just enough so it wouldn't disturb the hotel guests too much. However, Floyd was not in the ship, nor was he to be found in his usual spot on the beach. A quick check at the front desk revealed him to actually be in his quarters - a rare occurrence. The receptionist tried calling his room, but no one picked up. She gave you a puzzled look and tried again. Still nothing. She insisted he was there and offered to show you to his room. After all, Floyd never had guests, what could there be to possibly interrupt? A short elevator to the lowest level of the hotel opened up to a long corridor with two doors. One at the end, and one to the left. The left hand door was Floyd's quarters, the other was locked. A knock on Floyd's door proved as fruitless as a call. Now the little receptionist was getting pissed. She produced a key card, cocked an eyebrow at you, and smirked. One swipe later and you were in Floyd's rooms. The first thing you saw was a lot of blue. This was coming from the wall portal that looked into the reef. Obviously you were well below the water line. Floyd had a lovely view of the fish - something he undoubtedly found comforting. The second thing you noticed was that the room you had stepped into was set up like a living room with a kitchen. It looked seldom used. A set of double doors stood open on the right. The window continued on into this adjoining room. There you saw a bed, sheets rumpled, and a half naked alien sprawled across the top, face down. There were several empty whiskey bottles on the floor. Floyd had one arm hooked around a blue egg. The receptionist called out again to no effect. Finally she threw up her hands and huffed loudly. You could deal with him. He was drunk again. Go figure. And this was how you saw Floyd for the first time since Halloween, and you just learned something few people knew - he liked silk boxers. Ta-da! |

3 ![]() Welp, this was a sight. Steely looked like she was fighting between being bemused and laughing. It certainly showed on her face, but after a moment she mastered herself and waved, "I got him, I got him. Thank you." And with that, she left in a huff, leaving Steely alone with the alien. Kind of a lacking security, she thought distantly, unless the staff had been informed about the former OME members, all of them having relocated to BT. It wasn't what she was expecting, if nothing else. It felt a little wrong to just wake the alien up, but good gravy; it was nearly noon, and she didn't feel like waffling around the complex waiting for him to haul his drunk alien ass out of bed. She'd give him another minute, she decided, and leaned over to inspect the bottles on the floor. "At least you don't drink the cheap stuff," Steely mused aloud to the sleeping alien, picking up a bottle and turning it over to take a look. "Shame you didn't leave any," she flipped it over just to be sure, but the bottle was dry. When it continued to be obvious that Floyd was going to continue sleeping, she set the bottle down and debated poking him in the ribs with her cane. (Hey, hey, I know what we can do,) Kat piped up in the back of Steey's mind, the other mind present in this body... which Steely abruptly realized that Floyd didn't know. Maybe today she'd mention it. "oh, by the way Floyd, I'm off my rocker" Though she imagined it wouldn't surprise him. She could control electricity, for fuck's sake. (You can't say that Kat, you'll freak him out,) Steely snickered a little outwardly anyway. The woman leaned over, keeping herself steady with her cane and cautiously put a hand on the alien's side, gently shaking him. "Oi, Floyd. I come to see you, and you didn't even save any liquor for me!" Beldum Egg: 13/20 (GLaDOS) Beldum Egg: 11/20 (Curiosis) Beldum Egg: 9/20 (Rhubarb) |

"How many assholes we got on this ship anyhow?"
|
3LP Floyd would not have been surprised by Steely's little voices given he had acquired an assortment of his own since their last, more intimate dealings. None of this was presently on his mind though. He had just returned from his quest for Asil'sheh'seg'k. The encounter had blown his mind somewhat. Impressions of the legends and gods had taken on an entirely new an unexpected form. Hope, once thought forever crushed, had been replaced by faith. In a way. The alien was a changed man. In most other ways, like his drinking habits for example, he was very much the same. It was like learning for the first time that the world was round, and your world was not limited by the flat expanse of land you could see. It was such a wonderful discovery that he hadn't known what to do with himself, and just to make the thoughts spinning around his head shut the fuck up, he had drank himself to sleep. A perfectly acceptable practice when you're not expecting visitors. After all, no one ever visited Floyd. Ever. This was part of why the silly receptionist had shown Steely in without question. She had been told that if anyone ever came to see Floyd, to let them right in, regardless of what state he was in. This becuase it was assumed that anyone coming to see Floyd was from a higher government sect than he - and likely wanted to chew him out. The alien groggily mumbled something incoherent in his sleep. A more firm and louder nudge was needed to get the big oaf to actually lift his head off the drool stained pillow. He didn't see Steely right away. Even without eyes, it was plain he was staring off into space, making sense of things in a sleep drunk state. One more shout or jab brought him around. Grouchiness set in, and that ugly, scarred, skull jerked toward the unexpected smell in the room. His body tensed up, and then quite suddenly relaxed. Even drunk, Floyd would know Steely. He had given up his pursuits after it was clear that Alex was entirely no fun to mess with. He had not spoken to the former Lt. General since. These thoughts of course led to more sniffing. Alex was not there. In spite of the headache now threatening to blind him, Floyd grinned. He rolled over, propped himself up on on elbow and tried to look like this wasn't awkward. "So." He yawned, noticing his own dry sticky morning breath and trying to ignore it. "Finally gave Mr. Perfect the heave-ho, eh?" He chuckled smugly. "Can't say that I blame you, given the alternative." Well, at least his cocky attitude was still intact. |

3 ![]() The alien's muffled mumbles got Steely to frown, and feel around for where she assumed his ribs was. One good jab between said ribs later, and Floyd popped his head up finally, though still wasn't all there. Wasn't looking at her. How rude. Now, she raised her cane and poked him in the side, which finally at least got him to look at her. Even without him having eyes, she smirked and raised an eyebrow curiously, not saying anything quite yet. There was just... so much to say, and she didn't know where to start. "Alex certainly isn't perfect," she said without thinking about it, leaning on her cane again and chuckling herself. In her worry about recent events, she had completely forgotten about the last time they had met. It had been a long time ago, to be fair. Though, reflecting now, she wondered how she could have forgotten such a thing. The mental images... buh. "Oh yeah," she batted her eyes at him, in a way that she pretty much never did. "I just couldn't resist your sheer animal magnetism any longer." (I swear to Arceus, if he takes you seriously here, I'm leaving.) "How many assholes we got on this ship anyhow?"
|
3LP Kyogre Egg post I keep forgetting 3/30 "Damn straight he ain't perfect." Floyd flailed ungracefully to sit up. The swift movement only made his head hurt. "OW." He clamped a claw to the side of his head and massaged his temples. One might note in passing that his taste in jewelry was about as impressive as his taste in underwear. The tacky amulet he wore was one ugly piece of bling. "Damn the animal magnetism too. You'll just have to get in line. As you can see," He gestured to the open, empty doorway, "There's a whole damned line of chicks waiting for this ride. No shortage of fucks for Floyd. No Sirree." It was impossible to tell if he was angry or just being sarcastic. The hangover victim managed to swing his legs over the edge of the bed. He hands patted the mattress down to find his egg. "There you are. Over here you little bugger." He snatched the egg and held onto it. Then he proceeded to look for his pants. They were slung over the dresser on the opposite end of the bedroom. With a heavy sigh he looked up, not at the blonde woman waiting on him but at rather large, ugly fish that had chosen that moment to peer into the room. "What're you lookin' at. Bastard." Floyd got to his feet, kicked a few bottles, and stumbled toward his pants. He set the egg down long enough to pull the old pair of holey jeans on and then picked it up again. All in all, he was taking the whole finding a strange lady in his bedroom in stride. In truth, his head hurt too much to be freaked out. Then again, this was Steely. One good zap would short out his pace maker and ol' Floyd could kiss his orange ass good bye. Once upon a time this knowledge bothered him, but after finding out his gods were as real here, as they were back home, dying didn't bother him so much. After finding out his brother had married HIS girl, he found it hard to give a shit about much of anything. That didn't mean he was going to purposely piss off the zappy lady though. He didn't feel suicidal. His head hurt. Confusion crossed his twisted features as he stumbled back around to fix Steely with a hard stare. "If you aren't here to find out what you've been missing, why are you here?" Head tilt and cue loss of balance. He stumbled into the dresser. "Ow." |

3 ![]() It felt ungrateful and mean to quip back 'and neither are you', but Steely certainly didn't say it. Sure, the thought still crossed her mind, but she wasn't sure if it was her or Kat that had thought of it. As it was, she was only barely controlling her chuckling; she definitely knew how Floyd felt, at least the hangover part. "Nice boxers," she said instead, having just noticed those and the tacky amulet. The piece of metal made Steely's metaphorical hackles rise, though she had no idea why. It was easy enough to ignore; she had just noticed the egg. Now that definitely got a reaction out of her. Tellus, her own groudon, bubbled up a magma-like growl in the back of her mind. The legendary wasn't with Steely, but all six of them constantly felt like they were there, seeing everything. Rarely did they give their own input, unless it was important to one of them. Given her reaction... Steely jerked her head up from where it had started to fall as she had thought, straightening herself when she heard the glass bounce off of a wall. Floyd seemed grumpy, and Steely got the strange feeling it wasn't all the hangover talking. "How about we get some coffee to help you sober up, before I give you a reason to drink s'more, huh?" she hobbled over to him, hooking her arm in his and giving him a 'lead the way' look. Sure, she could prolly find the way to some food eventually, but Floyd owned the place. Nothing saying he didn't have a kitchen either, but she still felt like someone should keep his drunk alien ass from falling over. "How many assholes we got on this ship anyhow?"
|
3LP 4/30 Floyd let the lady prop him up, noting for the first time, the cane. She hadn't had that last time, had she? The pounding in his head said not to force the issue. They hobbled to the kitchen together. No coffee maker could be found though. Floyd didn't drink the stuff - he had never even tried it. The alien plopped down on a stool with his head in his hands and the egg in front of him. He looked up at Steely a little miserably. "Why not just give me that reason to drink?" He wasn't fatalistic at all. His mind was already wandering to how he had ended up here instead of the ship. He rarely crashed in the hotel. Falling asleep staring at the fish had seemed cool at first but he hadn't expected the fish to stare back. That was just creepy. Now he only retreated to the hotel suite when he needed some peace and quiet. Like last night. It was coming back to him now. His pokemon were fighting over something dumb again. The noise was giving him a headache, so he started drinking. When that didn't help, he had retreated to the hotel. That had made things worse. He had started thinking about giftmas all over again. "God, I don't need another reason to drink." He muttered. "I still have one." He slid off the stool and stumbled to the cabinets one at a time. All empty. Not one bottle left. A defeated sigh followed. He made a mental note to find someone willing to open a liquor store on the island. "I don't suppose you know Quinn's recipe to curing hangover's, do you?" 3 ![]() Steely let go of his arm when he dropped onto the stool, looking more closely at the blue egg now. For a few seconds, anyway, "To be honest, I think we're both going to need a drink after this." Now, she looked at him again, and how miserable he was. At this point, she was beginning to rethink why she came here, and started feeling bad for waking him up. Especially when he muttered and stood up to look for more liquor. Boy, what a mess she had innocently stumbled into. He was unhappy about something, and she was about to ask what was wrong when he asked. Quinn, Quinn... the name sounded familiar, but she didn't think she'd ever actually met this person before. Given how many things she had been a part of, this didn't surprise her. The second Grand Melee, the one she hadn't participated in but instead watched, flashed through her mind. Though, she could have sworn she had heard his name from somewhere else, but she just couldn't remember. "I actually don't think I've ever met Quinn. I barely remember his name, though I don't exactly remember from where," she smiled ruefully, rubbing the back of her head. "Though if you ever get it from him, let me know, will ya? Sounds useful," she watched him, mostly watching the egg since it seemed to draw in all her curiosity. Instead of asking about it, she decided to go with what was actually on her mind. "Are... are you alright, dude? If this is a bad time, I can... Iunno, I need your help with something, but you don't seem..." she trailed off and looked away with a huff at herself. Nobody else at BT drank (aside from her), so dealing with another half hungover, half drunk alien-person wasn't something she knew how to deal with. Maybe if she knew what was wrong, that would help. "How many assholes we got on this ship anyhow?"
|
3LP 5/30 "Oh well." Floyd flopped back down on the stool, listening. He didn't want to spill his guts to everybody he met. Angel was one thing, he was his best pal. Then again, it might be useful to have someone he trusted keeping a lookout for his little problem. Headache be damned, he mustered the courage to just say something. "It's not a bad time. It's just too late." He sighed. "For me that is." He looked up and noticed the doubt flitting across her alien features. Whatever had brought her here had to be important. It wasn't like Steely to seek him out when she was surrounded by friends. He resolved to cut the sap story short. "I made a wish on Giftmas that didn't turn out exactly like I planned." He looked down at the egg. "I tried to wish myself home and instead, I get this shit-bit of news from ol' Santy Claus that my brother is fucking my fiance. Excuse me. My EX. Apparently they've got hitched and now she's my sister." He flung up his hands in mock surrender. The pounding in his head reminded him that sudden movements were bad. "That's not all though. That fat bastard stranded someone else here." He fixed Steely with a very serious, toothy look (that really didn't look any different than any other expression). "And it's my fault. I gotta find her before someone else does. I have no frickin' clue where to start." Looking away again he hugged the egg a little closer. It made him feel a little better, more calm, less crazy - didn't do shit for the headache though. "So uh, to answer your question, it's actually a good time. I need help." Those teeth met Steely's eyes once more. "And from the sounds of it, so do you." |

3 ![]() "Oh," she rocked in place a little. Back years ago, when she and Cerby had been on the Sunflare when they were all in Aridair, she suddenly remembered the pictures Floyd had up, of other toothy aliens. Some had looked like they were related, others not. She remembered the female looking one, and understood. Had it really been that long ago that she and Floyd had been lounging around, playing Halo? "Well," she leaned against the counter where he was sitting, frowning and crossing her arms. "I know it aint worth much, but I'm sorry. That's fuckin' shitty of them," she shook her head. Her words weren't going to help or change anything, and even her impulse to pop another toothy alien in the snout didn't mean anything either. She did consider Floyd a good friend, even if they sadly didn't see each other much. However, mention of another alien dropped out in the world made her straighten up, and different gears in her brain started turning. "I like to stalk the newspapers pretty carefully... let's see," she pushed off of where she was leaning and paced, squinting as she sifted through what she remembered. Anything weird, she liked to somewhat look into... and there hadn't been anything weird lately. She liked to think that another alien in the world would get some coverage. "I'm sorry Floyd, I haven't seen anything lately that might be a lead. I'll keep an eye out for you, alright?" Without any prompting, she fished around in the pockets of her coat, pulling out a smaller scrap of newspaper and unfolding it. It was a smaller, side article that wouldn't be on the front page. No pictures or anything, either. "And I imagine this might become your problem at some point anyway. Or at least the government's, which you may get dragged into, all things considered. Take a look," she handed it to him. It seemed innocent enough, as much as a missing pokemon hunter could be. The thing that might catch Floyd's attention is the same thing that caught Steely's attention; the location he had last been known heading toward. The mountains west and slightly south-ish of Ashdell. The article mentioned in passing the valleys in the area to be 'dangerous' and 'completely uninhabited', but Steely knew better. It was inhabited by Arceus-damned zombies. And that was what made it dangerous. Beldum Egg: 17/20 (GLaDOS) Beldum Egg: 15/20 (Curiosis) Beldum Egg: 13/20 (Rhubarb) |

"How many assholes we got on this ship anyhow?"
|
3LP 6/30 "An eye out." Floyd repeated the odd expression. "That's all I can ask." Picking up the newspaper, Floyd scanned the article and frowned, seriousness suddenly replacing the pain stricken look from earlier. "I can't say I'm surprised. Activity has been...rising for at least a year now." He leaned forward. "I went there myself when reports first appeared, to size the place up, try to figure it out." The General pushed away from the bar and picked up the egg. he didn't stumble nearly as bad now that he was trying to focus. "I'll be right back. Got something you should see, I guess." He shuffled off to the bedroom, the door shut, and he didn't reappear for about ten minutes. When he did though, he had changed clothes. He'd ditched the frumpy jeans for a set of armor that left his upper torso bare. He couldn't recall if Steely had ever seen the Scavian issue artillery, but he doubted she'd think twice about the canon and computers. She could fry things with her bare hands, after all. Never-the-less, Floyd somehow looked more normal in the alien garb than he did in human attire. For all his freakish good looks, this was what he was. What looked out of place was the human weapons slung on his hips and over his shoulders. It was a subtle reminder that for all his long years on Earth, he didn't belong to it. It was also the first indication Steely had of just how dire the he considered her news. One piece of weaponry, didn't blend with either the alien equipment or the human guns. A massive slab of steel was slung over his back. It looked like a sword at first glance. Floyd set his egg back down, this time in the soft cushions of a nearby chair. Then he reached behind him, grabbed the hilt of the ridiculous piece of steel, and with a hernia threatening grunt, tugged the blade from its sheath and let the tip drop to the floor with a heavily, sharp sheeeenk. The blade was nearly as tall as Floyd, close to five feet including the oil stained hilt, spotted with rust and something that looked like dried blood. Unsheathed, it was evident it wasn't a sword at all, but an over sized butcher knife. "I got this from one of the monsters there. He could hurl the damned thing like a javelin." He passed the blade's hilt over for inspection. Being steel, Steely would have no trouble with it, cursed or not. The same six sense that Steely had felt the creepy bling with would detect something wrong with the giant knife as well. A different brand of dark energy clung to this though. The blonde lady could now connect some disturbing bits of information about Floyd - beyond his taste in boxers. For whatever reasons, Floyd was attracting decidedly negative energies around him. When they had last met in Brightopolis, it had been a strange egg. Before that, the Geneticore. Add in the strange idle he wore and now the freakish knife. Floyd appeared to be digging himself a hole. The reasons why were a mystery for another day though. "If you're wanting to go back to Black Pass, there's something you need to know. Whatever you find there, is your own personal demon. That thing I fought, the thing that wielded that like a toy. He was mine. My guilt gained a face, every nightmare I've ever had was real. The butcher? He was my own personal judge and jury. You don't leave Black Pass without coming to terms with your own pile of shit." When she was done examining the blade, he took it by the hilt and with another blood vessel bursting grunt, hoisted the horrible thing into the air and carefully slid it back into place. How he managed it without pulling something was a miracle. Then again, maybe not, considering the company he had been keeping. "You open the door to Black Pass, you don't leave until it says you can leave. You ready for that?" Floyd wasn't so sure he was. He had a whole new brand of bad to deal with now. |

3 ![]() It was highly unnerving to hear that Black Pass was still active, all these years later, after everything they had gone through. By now, Steely felt like she had lived through the whole thing at least twice, given the nightmare in reality that she and Cerb had dealt with at some point after, when they had all still been on Italicus. Recently, the demonic Heatran had cropped back up in her nightmares, though a lot of things seemed to be showing up to bite her in the ass lately. She bobbed her head when he excused himself for the moment, finally pulling herself up onto a stool and leaning against the wall with a sigh, cane resting on her legs. Floyd would find her wearing her sunglasses inside when he came back out again, and upon hearing him, she'd slide them off and tuck them back in an inside pocket of her coat. His getup did get raised eyebrows, more impressed than surprised by his arsenal. If it wasn't for her coat, he might see that she was also armed to the teeth, herself. Floyd may have gone to Black Pass more recently, but Steely was there the first time, and if nothing else, she had not forgotten that. "That is a big ass knife, my friend," she looked surprised again when he pulled it out, straightening out of her slouch. She set her cane on the stool next to her before taking the blade, having to tweak the magnetic fields a little to be able to look at it properly. It was heavy, after all, and her nerves still hated her. This time, she couldn't help but to voice her concerns as she felt the cold metal on her hands, "There's something wrong with this dang thing. Considering where you got it..." It concerned her, how he seemed to be coming across these things. Though, the strange egg had only interested her because of its half-metal qualities. Perhaps the idol and the knife were just more evil. She handed it back to him as he explained, and swallowed in thought. Her own demons, then... she got a flash of bright blue eyes, not unlike her own and yet entirely different, and things whispering at the edges of her mind. The pain of injuries, and the nightmare of BT's lower levels covered in blood, not a body nor soul to be seen, and a giant black demon dog... "I uh. I'm sure I can deal with Black Pass itself... I don't know about my own demons, though. They're uh..." she swallowed again, groping for her cane. "I try to avoid them if I can." "How many assholes we got on this ship anyhow?"
|
4LP 7/30 Picking up his egg, Floyd stumped over to the bar and sat back down. Nothing was said for a long moment while lost in thought and painful memories. The egg was being hugged closed again like a shield. "I wasn't going to bother Black Pass again." He finally said, with a moment of trepidation. "But if folks are getting past the quarantine, vanishing, then I guess it needs looking into again." The egg was placed in front of him where he could stare into its watery depths. The dim glow of heat from the growing embryo gave him strength that he knew his character was sorely lacking. "I don't know why the place is gaining strength again." He looked over. "But if we go, I do know it's going to drag our worst fears to the surface. Everything we want to forget is going to be there." He shook his head. "Last time I was...still messed up about a lot of stuff. The people I lost under my command, Til'k, Tuseh'kresah'n, and Kaiz." Steely probably did not know he had a thing for Kaiz, and that she had ditched him - twice now. She didn't know he'd let a number of people die for his pet monsters either. In truth, Floyd was the monster. He was ok with that now. That's what his trip to Black Pass had been about. He tried to be the big goofy alien for the public, but it wasn't how he really felt. It wasn't what he really was. So he'd stopped pretending, ditched the suit and tie, and started staying away from the public eye. He was almost certainly hiding something, and he wouldn't deny it, but he wasn't going to share what it was either. "It was all there in some form or another." He continued. "I came to terms with it. I had to let go. I was judging myself. That's what the butcher was - me. But now...I don't know. This mess with L'loyd and Jade. It's going to show up. I don't know what it'll look like, or how that place will expect me to deal with it, but it'll happen. I was trying to get home. I was going to just leave everyone here, and not say a word." He was smiling now, a little tiredly. "It's only fair I tell you what kind of messed up shit you're going to see out my head. And who knows, maybe you'll get to take a swing at my twin." He explained and tilted his head thoughtfully. "What about you? What will your skeletons look like? Anything I need to worry about?" Edited by Maverick, Jan 5 2014, 04:54 PM.

3 ![]() Steely rotated the cane in her hands in an almost nervous motion as they sat in silence, both equally dreading what they knew they had to go deal with. At least, she thought, he was a little more prepared then she was. The biggest thing that still haunted her happened more then a year ago, and she was still suffering because of it. She didn't even talk about it with her teammates. Things had only gotten worse recently because of her... stubbornness, shall we say. As Floyd stared into his own egg, Steely still stewing in her own thoughts, she reached into a pocket of her coat. Without any digging, she immediately pulled out a black rock, with shallow indents carved into it, equal distances apart. Floyd may or may not have been able to tell, but a legendary lived in that rock, electrical just like its owner. Steely rolled that between her hands now, hoping it would help. She looked when he did, still quiet, eyebrows hiked up again but otherwise still looking unsure. Out of the three things he mentioned, Kaiz was the one that made Steely frown the most. Til'k she knew as his geneticore, and she didn't know what his Genesect was named. She likely knew far more then Floyd thought she did, which was why she had hesitated before coming here. But that was another story for another day; she was still sitting here next to the alien regardless of what she knew. She rubbed the back of her head as he explained what Black Pass had twisted out of his mind and set against him. It had been bad when she and the rest of the OME squad, but not like that exactly. Steely had just been thinking endless zombies. Her worst fears come to life was something else entirely. "I don't blame you for wanting to leave without saying a word. Can't imagine..." given the big extended/adopted family she had now with all of BT, she couldn't imagine suddenly being universes away from them, forever. But, she had to warn Floyd about what was going on in her head... even if she couldn't exactly think of how to explain it. Her hand was still on the back of her head when it twinged abruptly and made her wince. Skeletons, huh? "Well, if that place is going to make them a reality, you may have to worry. My skeletons are made of people who have betrayed me, the unknown, and... myself," the last one could stand to be elaborated on, but she tilted her head back at him, smiling wryly. "I'm also afraid of the dark, as absurd as that sounds. Haha, wow, I'm starting to sound as crazy as I feel these days," she slouched, looking at the rock now. It crackled with faint blue static, and she considered elaborating on what she had just said. It felt weird to admit it out loud; she hadn't actually done so yet, aside from one person, though that didn't exactly count. 4LP 8/30 The alien's tail twitched, the first sign of playfulness out of him since his moronic quip when he'd first woken up. He noted the rock, but to him it was just a rock. Floyd possessed no special powers, no sixth sense by which to tap into the other world. He was as mortal as fleshy things came. The only special thing about him was the hunk of metal he wore, but it wasn't some well of knowledge he consulted with, nor was it a friend or even a partner. It wasn't even a pest. Floyd was a tool, and he knew it. The hydra only spoke to him when it pleased her. She only bolstered his nerve when his weakness threatened whatever course she had set for him. Otherwise, they did not speak, and she was not concerned with this world's gods. So Floyd assumed the black rock was just a charm, maybe a religious symbol, as his egg was to him. Nothing wrong with having faith in something. His respect for her went up a notch. Floyd didn't think of humans as creatures with much faith in anything. Betrayal rang a familiar bell though. That's exactly how he felt. His family had just given up on him. They had left him for dead. Steely though, and here he looked at the woman with notable curiosity and speculation, had one hell of a closet full of crap. Goody. He also sensed there was something else, something that needed to be laid on the table before they teamed up and took on Hell itself. "Well, I don't know about all that other stuff, but I'm not afraid of the dark." He grinned at his own joke. Only things with eyeballs were afraid of the dark. It was cute, in a way. "Least I got your back there." He cleared his throat, sensing an odd awkward moment about to drop. Floyd held his tongue though and waited. Maybe she would fill in the blanks for him, without him asking. Edited by Maverick, Jan 5 2014, 04:55 PM.

3 ![]() Oh if Floyd only knew. It was starting to dawn on her that it was in both of their best interests for her to tell him. No doubt Black Pass would draw out everything and anything she didn't want anyone to know about, and the worst things in her mind were the most dangerous. She tried not to wilt under him looking at her, but she couldn't help but to let her shoulders slump a little. It was nothing she was proud of. If nothing else, she hated it; she hated looking weak in any way at all, ever. Especially in front of anyone she knew. Sometimes, she forgot that Floyd didn't have eyes. An absurd thing to forget, but Steely didn't think of Floyd as an alien for the most part. She didn't look too hard unless she was curious. He was just Floyd. So being reminded that he saw differently, with her mind wandering the places it had been, it made her laugh. It was a stressed laugh, but still a laugh. "I'm- pfffth, man," she rubbed the back of her head again, a nervous tic when she was stressed. "I'm more afraid of what lives in the dark. Moving through it like a... sharpedo in the ocean, I guess," she looked out at the wall and the water beyond. It was an example she knew that Floyd would get immediately, even if he couldn't see the dark the same way she did. She frowned again, looking at the rock, hearing him clear his throat. "Aw... fuck. I may as well tell you everything. I imagine I could pick apart my nightmares, and then you'll be pretty prepared," she took a deep breath, sitting up straight and closing her eyes to steel herself. Where to even start. "I guess I'll explain why I'm afraid of myself. I, um. Well. I'm not the only person living in my own head." Steely pinched the bridge of her nose and frowned, though it was subtly different then the frowning before. Angry instead of unsure and frustrated. Really angry. "Steely, you weren't born in this body, why don't we start with that?" a very slightly deeper voice said now, hard edged like someone perpetually in a foul mood. "And that you're more specifically afraid of me, huh?" The blonde squinted her eyes as tightly shut as she could, squinting up her entire face and putting her free hand over her eyes. "Really, Kat? We're going to do this right now?" "Why the fuck not? It's true," her position didn't otherwise change, and she couldn't see if Floyd was gaping at them or not. "You killed someone, with a chainsaw. Twice." "The first guy got in my way, and the second guy deserved it. We've had this discussion before." Her hand finally dropped from her face, and she looked very tired all of a sudden. After a moment of staring straight ahead, she tentatively glanced sideways at Floyd to see if she had scared the shit out of him yet. She looked half hopeful that he didn't react negatively, half like she was waiting for it, expecting it, and ready to defend herself if need be. It wasn't often that both of them seemed to be reflected in her eyes, but this was one of those times. I don't need happiness for this lot here, they're just going into BT's thing anyway. "How many assholes we got on this ship anyhow?"

4LP 9/30 Floyd tried. He really did. The ocean analogy fell short. Scavian's were water born species. They started out in the water. Lived and breathed the water until their early teens. Sonar was just another thing. He imagined Helsing was the only one familiar with the Scavian life cycle though, so he smiled and nodded. "Uh yeah... I guess that would be flying blind without any instruments. Gotchya." He innocently inserted a more appropriate analogy. Air and space was the one place Scavian's were actually blind. It was why most Scavian craft did not have view ports. They couldn't see through the thick plating unless there was a light source behind it. It was why most Scavian's detested flying or space travel. Floyd was the oddball, but figured that's where she was going with this. Then she threw the fast ball. At first he thought she meant there were other voices in her head. Perfectly normal brand of crazy, and nothing new to him. Steely then broke the crazy meter before he had a chance to wave her off. He watched in amazement as she started a conversation with herself. It wasn't a parody either. This was The Excerist replaying before him, with a whole new personality and voice using the blonde as a puppet. Or was she using it as the puppet? Typical to Floyd, the first thing out of his mouth was a smart-ass remark. "The uh...cleaning lady. She doesn't like cleaning up vomit. Your head isn't gonna, you know...start spinning or anything is it?" He shrugged, expecting green power puking to follow shortly. He glanced away, swallowed hard and looked back. This was a new brand of crazy. It also occurred to him that the murder thing didn't bother him, the style even made his mouth water. He started to smile. Then he started laughing. He laughed until he lost his balance and fell backwards off his stool. He clanked to the floor, a heap of orange scales, steel and foreign alloys. "OW-owowow." Still he couldn't stop laughing and kept on until he was out of breath and choking. "NOW I know why you came to me and not that boyfriend of yours." He managed when he caught his breath. Looking up he shook his head. "Deep down, yer as fucked as me." He grinned, his tail flicking to and fro with glee. He chuckled some more, trying to imagine the tall man actually murdering someone. There was a reason Floyd's monster was personified as a butcher. He had earned the family name. L'loyd could have Jade, their father had left the armor to him. He knew. Floyd climbed to his feet, his leering grin full of hungry delight. A hand reaching for the egg still on the counter, said it wasn't forgotten, but Steely most certainly had his full attention, and maybe a little more than she bargained for. 3 ![]() It was more that Floyd had misunderstood. Steely would have tried to explain it then, but there were other things going on at the moment. Not exactly more important things, but still things that needed undivided attention. Their first reaction to Floyd being a smart ass was a barking laugh. She turned and started to explain, when Floyd too started laughing and fell off of the stool. If she hadn't had her cane in one hand and the rock in the other, she would have gone to try and help him, useless as she may have been. Instead, she became infected with his laughing, and started laughing herself, sounding oddly like two people laughing at the same time. It shouldn't have been possible, and perhaps it wasn't physically possible, but Steely had been touched by enough magic and mayhem for nearly anything to be possible with her. It was an interesting effect, at any rate. And now, Floyd knew, meaning that Steely didn't have to keep the cage locked. The choker chain leash didn't have to be so tight. It was oddly liberating; it had been some time since anyone in BT had discovered this, and she had forgotten how it felt. "Well... Alex knows about her, just not about... everything. And I couldn't handle bringing him to Black Pass again..." she shook her head and waved the hand holding the black rock, hoping that she didn't sound too dependent. Her issues weren't strange in and of themselves, but Alex was the only person so far who was able to calm Steely down completely. Being psychic helped. She imagined it would only make him a target. "That bit is complicated. Oh, fuck's sake, it's all complicated, who am I kidding," she threw her hands up. "And it's not me, it's her-" "Nope. Don't even. You killed that bitch a couple weeks ago just as much as I did, and you enjoyed it just as much as I did!" Kat's voice cut across what Steely was saying, stopping her mid-sentence, voice and expression changing back to the angry scowling. The blonde shook her head hard, like she was trying to get something off of her head, or out of her ears. Now she rubbed at her eyes with her knuckles. "So there's that," she said lamely, dropping her arms and looking at Floyd, all eager toothy alien. The sight got the corner of her mouth to quirk, even if she didn't fully understand any potential consequences. "I guess I'm afraid of what I'm capable of. Don't get me wrong or anything... we don't do what we do at random. The ends justify the means... Kat was defending someone she cared about, and the person we did in a few weeks ago hurt my friends..." she trailed off, watching the ocean beyond the glass, thinking. She didn't let it linger on for long, shaking her head less vigorously this time. "And I'm afraid of the dark because there's monsters that live in the dark. Control the dark. They're scary and fast and have too many sharp teeth and big claws... that normally wouldn't bother me," she smiled at the toothy, clawed alien. "But they're shapeshifters, too. I think there's only one left, but he still scares me even now. I haven't seen him for a while..." and she hadn't made the connection between the shadowy black dog and the shadowy red fox. Which, she didn't have to worry about the fox anymore... "And I guess that's why not knowing scares me too. Some days I feel like I don't know what's going on anymore..." her hand went back to the back of her head again, and this time she realized she was doing it, freezing with her hand half raised. That brought her to her last point, something she did not like to talk about. She had intentionally never brought it up with her team, though maybe it would be easier with Floyd. The alien hadn't seen her curled up on the ground, sobbing in pain. Her hand lowered back to grab her cane where she'd been keeping it from sliding down her legs with her other arm. The rock in her hand was just being mindlessly rotated with no purpose. "...when Elijah left Genesis, he came back to BT to see if he could join up again. I... overreacted badly when I saw him, and he did the same right back. He almost killed me, Floyd. He broke most of my ribs and nearly broke my neck... and left me there. Haven't seen him since. I trusted him as much as I trust anyone else on my team..." that was easily the biggest, most complicated thing that she just couldn't get over. Raziel, a psychic friend of hers even more powerful then Alex, had told her time and time again that part of her limp was because she couldn't get over what had happened. That it was partially in her head. She didn't disagree with the psychic, but didn't want to bring it up. Didn't even want to talk about it. And here she was... the first person who she had mentioned it to since it happened, was Floyd. Beldum Egg: 19/20 (Curiosis) Beldum Egg: 17/20 (Rhubarb) |

"How many assholes we got on this ship anyhow?"

4Lp 10/30 He imagined that after the hydra he had encountered the worst of the things that bumped in the night. His laughter sort of sputtered out as she continued her story. He got the distinct feeling he hadn't met whatever she was worried about. His tentacle monster was no shape-shifter. Steely had his full attention. A stirring at the back of the alien's brain and a sharp glow of warmth from the idol, told him he wasn't the only one. Steely had woken up Mom. Floyd shifted uncomfortably on his stool. Having Her ease dropping set his teeth on edge. He looked away, no longer smiling. He looked back when she mentioned Elijah. An angry scowl twisted his skull's grin into a wicked grimace of pain. He found himself standing up, kicking the stool clumsily to the side. "He hurt you." He was seething, sucking in breath through clenched teeth. "He HURT you?" This came as a grating growl. His hands were shaking, he didn't realize how quickly he was letting this information get to him. Steely might not like him, but not all his flirting had been to make her laugh. He had secretly wanted her to take him seriously. She never had though, and he hadn't been about to let any one know how much it hurt. It didn't stop him from reacting defensively. Floyd did not take rejection well. A curious second skin of oily smoke dripped from his claws. The alien was taking deep breaths, trying to regain composure and failing. The short fuse was lit though, he pulled the ugly knife from its sheath, wielding it like weighed nothing. The black smoke was curling tightly around the blade. With a roar of pure rage he turned and hurled the heavy blade at the wall. It sank into a bulkhead to the hilt. "Hys wey'k kresah ye!" He snarled, "S'k'n'vys krash cys hys vik'che t'setu'n kreseh'k. Vys che, vys wey'k tuseh ye'n off'n." He spat, sealing the promise. He was still puffing and stomping but the smoke was receding as he calmed down. He grabbed the egg off the counter and sat back down, this time on the sofa. His fuming cooled while he rocked the egg, but didn't die out. When he spoke up again, at least it was in English. "I knew you were avoiding me. I didn't realize it was because of him...or that he would." He shook his head, trying to cool off again. "I thought it was me. I thought there was something you weren't telling me and that's why you and all the others left the OME - but it was just him." A choking gasp and another shake of disbelief. "He didn't say why he left. He just did. Honestly, I was glad he was gone. He smelled of death, I knew something wasn't right about him but he had seemed genuine. I never imagined he would..." Again he shook his head and rocked the egg. Steely had dropped one hell of a bombshell on him and he didn't know what to do about it. He didn't know if he could do anything about. Eli was already dead. Floyd cared about Steely, he respected her, he feared her. There was something irresistible about that, but she was also not interested in him. It wasn't his place to fight for her, but if Eli could hurt the one person he actually feared, what could he hope to accomplish? Well, he was adequately distracted now. Black Pass had been forgotten in the male posturing. Edited by Maverick, Jan 6 2014, 04:50 PM.

4 ![]() Whatever Steely had been expecting, it hadn't been that. She jumped a little in surprise when Floyd suddenly stood, almost looking around as if there was a sudden threat, but when he spoke, she deflated. If he hadn't repeated it, she wouldn't have believed she had heard him right. To Steely, she had never considered that he'd been serious about the flirting, because she'd simply believed that he had no interest in humans, being an alien and all. Given his initial reaction, she was forced to start rethinking things. "Y-" she started to answer, though it felt redundant at this point, when she noticed the black smoke. Now, it was an evil thing, that was obvious. It was less that, and more how it looked that immediately got Steely bristling. If the dark power that Floyd had stumbled on had manifested itself as something else, then it may not have bothered her. Seeing the black, thick smoke trailing, it only reminded her of the bleeding black edges of the devil dog. Wisely, she closed her mouth and kept herself planted on the stool, even while her hands shook with the memory. Whatever he was saying in his native tongue, it at least distracted her and pulled in her curiosity. She had zero idea what he was saying, but she had an idea it had something to do with what they were just talking about. Still. Alien language. What. She waited until the smoke had dissipated before sliding off of her own stool and limping a little closer, looking at the sword in the wall instead of at him. Upon realizing that he was speaking English again, she looked at him with her head tilted and frowning. "No, Floyd... I told you why I left when I did. The others didn't want anything to do with VP either. Luckily, they didn't exist long, but we had all already established in Hillmoss. I... yeah, I got real upset when Elijah left us without even saying a word. Just a fucking note, and he had left us. I don't... I don't take things like that very well," she was now looking at the floor again, rubbing the back of her head. Floyd didn't take rejection well, and Steely didn't take abandonment well either, or at least what she perceived to be as much. However, she knew that it wasn't the only reason she had avoided seeing Floyd since then. But, she thought, remembering the men in the black suits, as much as she didn't believe what they had said, she couldn't tell Floyd about that. Not until she was more sure of their motives. "So... yeah, that's why I've been avoiding you. Avoiding Genesis unless I had to come here for something. And then that happened..." she shrugged, not sure what else to say. It still left a huge gap of time she had avoided the place. "As you can tell, I'm still not healed, and I'm not sure if I ever will be. I slowed down on my adventuring at that point. I had a real hard time trusting people when I first started out... and he reminded me of why. So I guess it wouldn't surprise me if he showed up in some form in Black Pass too." And even though the darkness could be crippling to her sometimes, she had no idea how she would react if she saw him again, real or fake. Steely looked at the knife embedded in the wall again, "So um... what the fuck was that about, anyway?" "How many assholes we got on this ship anyhow?"
|
4LP 11/30 He was brooding, half listening and half plotting. 'Mom' sat in the background letting her barbed hooks sink a little deeper. The aura about the black smoke was...smug. "Least you got a note." Floyd mumbled. He was willing to overlook the guy's stink because Elijah Morvonte was a decent guy, respected, even honorable - before he had started smelling of death anyway. Something had went horribly wrong. The honorable did not pick fights with a weaker opponent. Floyd looked up and scrutinized the woman he had admired, albeit from afar. Sure, she was ugly - all human's were. Steely had always carried herself with pride though. This combined with a cool intelligence and sharp wit built a personality that even he couldn't help but want a part of. The cane stood out now, like a sore thumb. He noted at last the nervous, self conscience way she messed with her hair every time she tried speaking. This was not his partner, his Lt. General of a nation's army. This was a shattered soul. Admiration turned to pity and he snarled, looked away and muttered a curse under his breath. Pity was the last thing The Steel Cerberus wanted and Floyd wasn't that stupid. He hissed at the mention of the knife. Stared at it. Bored a hole through it. Then he looked at his hands, still bleeding black smoke. "That is my dirty little secret. You have yours, that's mine." He looked up at her, a tilt to his head, "Have I ever told you my real name, Steely? Surely you knew 'Scavian' wasn't it." Floyd took a deep breath, knowing he was dancing very close to a dangerous subject. "If you want to know what that was," a nod at the knife, "You have to know all of it. You have your secrets, I trust you to keep mine. "I am F'loyd'vise'k Tuseh'n'kresah'rraj'k. The family name means...something like bringer of death or Butcher. It's in our blood. We can't help it, it's genetic. The Primordians put it there. They...tampered with our DNA." He stopped, not sure if he should go on. The rabbit hole was too close not to jump down now. "They don't fight. The Primordians, I mean. They're pacifists. Our world was invaded a long time ago, and Scavian's...we were a young race then. Not much beyond what you would call 'stone age'. The Primordians were already ancient, they had the technology to destroy but refused to use it. They had to defend Sordia somehow, so they used us to do it instead. Of those they altered, only a handful survived. These became the ruling class, and we were segregated from the others. The gene is dormant in the descendants, in me, but there are certain stages in a Scavian's life cycle that it can be triggered because the DNA is unstable. The risk is always there. That's why I have to find the other Scavian. I don't know what class she is. If she's like me, she can't be allowed to stay with humans. If she's not, no worries. But I digress... "I found something in Grusing's harbor awhile back. The local's called her, Mother Hydra. I think she's actually another alien. She latched onto me because of what I am. She could see it, and she wanted it." Again he looked up, meeting her eyes with his own toothy glare and shook his head helplessly. "You killed because you were protecting someone you cared about." A pause while he licked his teeth nervously. He'd never told anyone this much, but there was the chance she would see it first hand. He had no choice. "My parents were killed when L'loyd and I were young. My father...he went through the final stage while they were on a mission to a neighboring galaxy. The gene activated and my mother didn't have the nerve to put a bullet through his head - she thought he would still know her. She was the first one he killed. The ship never reached its destination. He killed the majority of the crew, before my godfather set the ship to auto-destruct and came back on an escape pod. "The Hydra, or whatever she is, knows how to trigger the mental state that the dormant gene causes." Whatever he meant, it scared him, the fear flitting across his face, making him tremble was real. "I kill because I can't help it. The least bit of rage is all she needs to get a grip. Every time, the grip gets a little tighter. The bad part is, I can't help but like it." Rising to his feet, and setting the egg aside, he flicked his claws together, the oily smoke was tangible and he drew on it. The alien stalked over to the knife embedded in the wall, planted a foot against the bulkhead, and gripped the hilt with both hands. The smoke sank into the stained wood, and he gave it a swift, hard yank. The steel came free with a gut wrenching squeal. "I care about you Steely. And it pisses me off that he did this to you, that it could happen at all, that Alex didn't stop it!" Floyd was shaking again, the second skin uncoiling more freely. "I knew you didn't care about me. I had to know he was going to be there for you. That's why I kept trying to get a rise out of him - I wanted him to rise to your defense - to want to protect you." Abruptly he stopped, sheathed the big knife and turned his back on her. His thoughts were back to why he was angry to begin with. Whatever had torn apart the strong, proud woman he knew, was a monster. His thoughts were focused on Eli, his abrupt departure, and what he knew about him. Obviously he knew as little about him as he had about Steely. There was a history there, something that must have bound them closer than she had ever been to him. Jealously burned in his throat, and hatred. Cold fear trickled down his spine and his jaw dropped as a new revelation sank in. He had always heard there were two sides to every story, but it wasn't true. Each person had a side they told and a side they didn't want told. There were four sides to every story, not two, and he had just heard one. Floyd looked out of the glass at the reef, he also had just told one side of a story. Touché. [Oh uh, Egg happiness anyway. 2 for the other one. 1 for this one.] |

4 ![]() Steely stood across from Floyd, away from the knife, where she could see both at the same time without much effort. His scrutiny made her raise her eyebrows, but she didn't do anything else, waiting for him to say something. Her weight was leaning on one side heavier then the other, the same side her cane was on, putting her weight on that. Self-consciously, she shifted her grip on it, as if realizing that Floyd was looking at it. True to her style, at least it was brushed stainless steel, well cared for. It looked heavy, too. "I didn't figure it was, yeah," she spoke quietly, looking back at his eyeless mug. Her nod was solemn and serious at the mention of secrets. Of course she wouldn't tell anyone; the trusted Floyd to do the same. And thus, Steely learned a little more about her alien friend. Their worlds, every aspect of their species, so very different. Steely knew that they were, but hearing about it was just crazy. Some kind of genetic thing making them bloodthirsty, it sounded like. She sort of side-eyed him at that point. Not out of fear, because crippled or not, she still liked to think that she could drop him if she needed to. More wonder and curiosity, again. How strange it must have been, living with that sort of thing, knowing what would eventually happen. When she realized that this Hydra was where the black shadowy mess was coming from, the tension unwound from her shoulders and she relaxed again. Even with the cascade of information to the contrary, she still wasn't afraid of Floyd at all. She only feared things that had given her reason to. Information, to her, wasn't really a reason. Given where they were planning on heading, she considered it more of a warning. And that scared her more. It was hard for her to articulate, but right on top of all her fears was fear of losing her friends. What would she do if Floyd turned on her, when they went to the Pass? Screeching steel on concrete snapped her out of her thoughts, just in time to see Floyd pull the knife from the wall. She looked away as he continued, knowing better then to say anything, defending Alex. She also wasn't sure if she wanted to point out that she didn't need anyone to protect her, aside from maybe protecting her from herself. It was hard to explain, and the sort-of accusation against her boyfriend made her hackles bristle again, but it was a stupid thing to bring up. They supported each other in their own ways, and she was just fine with that. "Floyd," she decided on instead, adjusting so her cane was in front of her, both hands resting on that as she leaned, "I do care about you. Just... you know. As a friend, a comrade. I trust you as much as I trust my team. Even now." The word was emphasized by her stomping the foot of her cane on the ground. It was the truth, and she didn't waver with it. "And, besides. I'm more of a protector then a protect-ee. We always have been," she smiled a little, but there wasn't any heart in it. Some stupid protector she was. Beldum Egg: 19/20 (Rhubarb) |

"How many assholes we got on this ship anyhow?"
|
3 His reflection in the glass started to smile. For some reason her tapping that cane at him struck a chord and he had to resist an inappropriate chuckle. It was plain his male bravado wasn't appreciated. "You humans, you're so very different. You have...choices. I forget that sometimes." Slowly he turned around, the strained expression from moments earlier was simply tired now. "You'll have to forgive me. It's in my nature to...defend something. Before the Primordians interfered, we were perfectly fine defending our females. They can take care of themselves too, actually, but it's in their nature to let us be useful. It's an evolutionary quirk." Now he did laugh. It was an inside joke. He couldn't imagine a human staying with the same person for two hundred years and not trying to kill them at least once. Walking over, Floyd stood in front of her, breathing in her smell. Alien, but still so deliciously female. He took her hand, the one not on the cane, and he carefully placed it over the small device wired into his chest. "You don't have to worry. Unlike our zombie friend, I can be killed easily enough, at least by you. Just aim here and it's done." He whispered. "It's another genetic defect, accidental. It will be healed if the final stage happens - whether or not the artificial gene is triggered. I'm not telling you this because it could happen at Black Pass. I've dealt with this demon and don't fear it. I'm telling you this because She could...trigger the change early. It shouldn't happen until I'm in my hundreds. Dad was one hundred and fifty." He frowned, not sure if he should drive the last nail in the coffin. Steely knew this much, she could deal with one more piece. "That's over two hundred of...your years, away. I shouldn't have to be worrying about this. Not for a long time, but because of Her, I have to. The intent he hoped was understood. This wasn't something he would tell just anyone though. Helsing knew about his heart problem, but no one else. It was a limited time off switch, more so limited because she was human. His problem was, he didn't trust Helsing. "So. Now you know." He let go of her hand and returned to his egg. "When do you want to leave?" Edited by Maverick, Jan 7 2014, 06:18 AM.

3 ![]() It was a little hard for her to wrap her mind around... not having choices, in the way Floyd meant. Being bound to a specific way of being, sort of. She bobbed her head at him, "I... think I kinda get it. No harm done." Something about it still made her smile a little bit, maybe because it wasn't a concept she was exactly used to. Especially that kind of reaction. Still, she kept wondering, how weird it must be for him. But, it was the only thing he knew, like Ben only knew being blind. (And besides that, it's not that weird to have something that you can't help,) Kat chimed in quietly, only in her mind where Steely would hear. What she was talking about made sense... "You are a very quirky species. Not a bad thing, mind you," she chuckled when he started laughing. She felt the impulse to rub the back of her head again, silently cursing herself because she thought she had booted that habit by now, and then suddenly he was in front of her. Somehow, it felt funny that she didn't need to lean back to look up at him, like how she had to with some people, but the smile fell away when she felt the black box under her fingers. Floyd had told her about this, a while ago, or at least parts of it. One of his hearts didn't work right, so he had a sort of a pacemaker wired right into his chest to keep him going when it started having problems. It was part of the reason she wasn't afraid, for the reasons he was explaining. She certainly knew that a good jolt of electricity was not good for the heart. "Here's hoping I won't need to know, right?" her hand dropped back to her side as she chuckled weakly. She remembered the rock she had been holding, and her hand disappeared into her pocket to find it again. Rolling it in one hand, she made her decision and looked back at him. "I'm ready whenever you are. How do you think we should get there?" she didn't think they could teleport in... the place was too weird for that. Beldum Egg: 20/20 (Rhubarb) |

3LP 13/30 "I'm ready now." He rumbled a little too eagerly. "We can take the ship as far as Redhurst. Go in the back way instead of through the pass. From the mountains we'll have a new vantage point of the town. Given what we're walking into, the high ground seems to be our only advantage." He petted the egg again, knowing he couldn't take it with him. It was too dangerous. It might be the spawn of Kyogre and it might be some form Asil'sheh'seg'k. Either way, at the moment it was dependent on him. Helpless. "You know, there's little chance of...stopping Black Pass." He said, picking up the egg and glancing around the room for anything he might have forgotten. "It's even useful, after a fashion." There was nothing left here. "My visit there convinced me that you don't go to Black Pass, it comes to you. It calls you." A sly grin. "You're here because...I think it wants you there." He chuckled deeply. "Come on, I'll have the ship transport us up. If you're ready." |

3 ![]() Floyd got the funniest look from Steely, like she was trying to figure out if he really was eager, or if she was just seeing things. At least one of them was excited. She certainly wasn't. "Not like that'll be an advantage for long. Ah well," she shook her head, watching him stroking the egg, still sort of wondering what was in it but still not asking. She was looking out into the ocean when he was getting ready to leave, and she very slowly turned her head to look at him when he was done. Closing her eyes, she took a deep breath and sighed to compose herself first. "Man, I hope not. Can't imagine when that would ever be a good thing," she looked around too, more to make sure she hadn't somehow dropped something, and then limped right over to him. "Let's go, before I lose my nerve." |
