T'was the night before Giftmas...

And there was a tiny wisp of golden fire making its way toward one of the houses in Slumber. It floated over the fence's gate, darted through the hole in the tire swing and hovered in front of the door before a bright flash of light left behind two figures.

The first was a woman with light brown hair, pulled back in a short ponytail. Glasses sat on her nose, and the eyes behind them appeared light blue, but catch them at the right angle and they glittered gold. The six curled tails swaying behind her also gleamed gold, as did the triangular, fox ears on either side of her head. She examined the claws on her fingers, then the gold-and-silver Santa suit she was wearing, with a satisfied smile, before she looked to her companion.

Said companion was a few inches shorter than her, and had a shape somewhere between that of a pear and a bowling ball, his skin an ash grey, tinted with blue. His hair, nearly shoulder-length, was straight and a much more vivid blue. His long, thin, pointed nose seemed crowded and overwhelmed by his large, red eyes and wide, sharp-toothed grin. His suit, a deep navy blue, looked like it had once been very fancy, but ends of the sleeves, pant legs, and coat were ragged-looking, and he was without shoes, showing three-toed, clawed feet that were clearly not human.

V couldn't help the chuckle that bubbled from her as she looked at Hades. "So apparently a gengar becomes a ghostly version of the Penguin," she mumbled under her breath.

Hades looked at her. "What'd you say?"

"Oh, nothing," V chimed with false innocence as she reached for the doorknob and let them both into the house.

They stepped into a living room that looked far too large for the house, with comfortable chairs, a couch, a loveseat, along with a table full of sweets and a bowl full of punch. A sound system at one end of the room was playing Carol of the Bells, and the self-appointed DJ, Raven the gryphonkin, waved gleefully at the pair. A large Giftmas tree was in one corner, and lights and tinsel were liberally hung along the walls.

There were plenty more than Raven hanging around, though. On the loveseat, a woman with alabaster skin and hair, and electric blue eyes, made small talk with a woman covered entirely by a black cloak, only her slightly-glowing red eyes visible in dark hood. Near one wall, a pale man with dark hair, reflective green eyes, and a very nice suit chatted, cup of punch in hand, with a blond woman with freckles and the exact same colour of eyes.

A woman with grey-purple skin and near-black, violet hair lounged on a chair, nibbling at a Giftmas tree-shaped cookie, and on another chair was another woman with magenta hair, long fox-cat ears and tail, and glowing orbs of light for eyes. Sprawled out on the floor nearby them were two umbreon, one with dull bronze rings and one solid black with no rings at all, on the back on a hydregion. Both women and all three pokemon had the exact same shade of green to their eyes as the man and woman standing by the wall.

The fox-cat woman jerked to to her feet when she saw V and Hades, and she ran over with a cry of "Hades!" to throw both her arms around the roly-poly, goulish man.

Hades laughed and hugged her back. "Mel! How you doing, babe?"

Purring started to eminate from Mel, and V just shook her head a little and walked away to let them have their moment. She stepped over to the table, snatched up a gingerbread cookie, and gave it a gentle toss under the Giftmas Tree with a chuckle before grabbing a candycane off one of the branches. The straight end of the cane in her mouth, she sauntered over to Raven and her music.

"Having fun?" she asked.

Raven gave a cheery nod and a little crowing noise. "This orchestrial music rocks," she said with a click of her beak and swish of her tail. "Glad you introduced me to it." She looked over at the party guests. "Though, I'm noticing that the whole family didn't show up."

V shrugged. "Oh well. Can't be helped. Besides, I think once all our party crashers show up, it'll make up for it."

Raven gave her an odd look. "Are they really 'crashers' if you're expecting them?" she pointed out.

V shrugged again. "I guess not, but..." She froze, as if suddenly remembering something, and gave Raven a stern look. She even took the candycane out of her mouth and pointed it at the gryphon DJ for emphasis. "Now, you behave around my friends, you got that?"

Raven gave her best beaked grin. "Oh, come on, foxy lady. Don't I always behave?"

"Not even remotely."

BANZAI!

THUMP.

One of the walls shook as something giant and silver and stupid crashed into one of the windows, not breaking it because magic house, duh.

Claws scrabbled at the side of the house, and a big silver face with a black nose and blue eyes looked in. All polished, stainless steel, a big dog head with folded ears and double fangs, the Steel Cerberus tapped her nose against the glass.

I see a cookie and I must have it. Gimmie.

She started to wedge her claws between the window and the ledge, cramming her snout in once she'd gotten it far enough, and pushing it the rest of the way up. Now she only had the task of cramming however-many feet of giant mechanical idiot-mutt through the hole.

She got about as far as midway before getting either tired or stuck, or both.

Halp, she whined, hips stuck on the edges and making flailing motions with her front paws, to get at a cookie or some traction or help or something.

Paaaaause.

I feel like I need you to explain the connections here, because I'm curious but lost, SC rumbled, tilting her head and looking around at all these people.

"Nothing beats Sarajevo 12/24 in terms of 'Carol of the Bells' but Manheim Steamroller does a pretty nice version, I admit, and I haven't heard a variant I didn't like...though if talking Manheim, I go Patapan all the way for favorites..." The soft mumble came from under the Christmas tree, where a silver and black furball was already curled around the trunk like she owned it, a plate of cookie crumbs nearby. "And I already ate all the cookies in my view so you'll have to find your own," she added much more loudly, as the large metal dog flailed halfway through the window.

She contemplated the issue for the stuck metal dog thing, and heaved a sigh after a pause. "Don't look at me for help, either, sorry. I mean, maybe I could try levitation and stuff if I decided I wanted to go all espeon or something but I really don't know about size..." A pause, then a mental sort of shrug before the air rippled around her, glowing faintly as her form altered and more than doubled in size, tail splitting in two halfway down as she got a sleeker frame and a silver gem in the middle of her black forehead.

The silver eyes glowed slightly and several gingerbread cookies levitated off the plate and danced over to the big metal dog, cavorting merrily about until snapped up. 'Cookies I can at least do this way easily, actually.' A few more levitated their way under the tree. 'And I don't know a lot of these people either. But then, I don't really have anyone but me and I am what I am...'

The upside to this was that she didn't have to move to get more cookies herself, which she couldn't complain about, really. Being lazy felt like something she wanted to do, really. And socializing was never a forte anyhow, for her...so all these people made hiding under the tree until someone she knew other than Raven got there a good idea.

Because she didn't really know how much Raven knew or didn't know or whatever. So hiding, yes.

Though a few copies of Trans-Siberian Orchestra either appeared in Raven's music supply or migrated to the top mysteriously to be near at hand when it came time for a new song. For no reason at all. 'TSO is the best Christmas music...' Had nothing to do with it, really.

All of the people stared back at the metal mutt and her antics. Only about four of these guys were fully aware of what was going on, and they all had varying reactions. The lady with the white hair and bright blue eyes quietly facepalmed, her expression not shifting much but her exasperation clear enough from the body language alone. The red-eyed woman next to her carefully pulled down the hood of her cloak, revealing that her skin was a dusky grey and her hair was a sleek black and slightly wavy, though the faint glow of her eyes didn't cease as she gave the Steel Cerberus a blank, confused look. Also, she had cat ears. Morrigan perked up and wagged her bronze-ringed tail, even moreso when she saw cookies floating around in the air.

Mel, on the other hand, grabbed Hades by the sleeve and started to insistently pull him toward the stairs. Because she'd figured out that, where there was a metal mutt, a demon dog was likely not far behind. And she wanted to get out of this room before he saw fit to leap out of the shadows.

Everyone else had looks that amounted to 'what in the?' though no one looked overly concerned as they glanced at each other. Mostly because V was shaking with silent laughter over by the DJ. The second, solid black, umbreon rolled off the hydreigon's back and gave a lazy stretch. "Someone here lose their dog?" he deadpanned, addressing the room.

V, managing to stop laughing, strolled across the room to stand just out of reach of metal paws and grin in amusement at the doggie in the window. "Oh, don't worry, there'll be proper introductions. Though, I imagine you've probably guessed who most of the people in this room are related t--" She cut off and blinked as she realized that the blonde woman who'd been hanging around nearby had suddenly approached and was now reaching a hand toward SC's head.

"Puuuuuuppy." Scritch scritch scritch.

Up close, it was clear that she probably wasn't much older than eighteen, and she was very willowy in shape. Her straw-coloured hair hung to her mid-back, and there was a healthy peach tone to her skin, with freckles dotting her nose and what of her shoulders were visible in the tank-top she was wearing. Her eyes were gleaming green, nearly glowing, and the big, goofy grin on her face as she petted the Steel Cerberus revealed that her eye-teeth were oddly sharp. In fact, while her right eye-tooth was a fairly normal size for a human, her left one was noticeably longer, appearing more like a fang.

V very slowly raised an eyebrow at the young woman. "Couldn't wait until after I got her unstuck, could you?"

"Could've. Didn't," was the cheery reply, though she did withdraw her hand and step back a little.

V just rolled her eyes a little and chuckled. Then her clawed fingers started to glow with golden energy as she focused on the window and SC. She raised one hand above her head, then began to slowly lower it, and the window and the being it had trapped slowly slid down along the wall as well until the sill was at the same level as the floor. She then flicked her hand upward, and the window was suddenly about twice as tall. Then she held both hands in front of her and swiftly moved them apart from each other, and the window was now about twice as wide too. More than enough for SC to just walk into the living room, and there wasn't even any snow or winter wind blowing in through it.

"Viola. Doggy door."

Raven, meanwhile, noted the rearrangement of her music with an amused flick of her tail. Not that those weren't far from the top to start with, but who was she to disagree with the wishes of whatever mysterious force this was? Carol of the Bells was soon followed up with A Star To Follow.

Morrigan immediately hopped to her feet, and started prancing around to the beginning of the song, her happy puppy dance 'coincidentally' taking her close to the tree where the currently-espeon was lurking.

COOKIES! SC barked, squirming where she was still half sticking through the wall, paws groping the air until the gingerbread people reached her, at which point she messily and noisily snapped them individually out of the air.

ilu 'vee~

She was licking the crumbs off of her face when V and her friend came over, and her tail could be seen wagging in the air outside the window. V wasn't exactly being ignored, either, but there was someone petting her this is great. Though the scritch-ability was questionable, at least around the metal face. The mane of surprisingly soft golden feathers was plenty scritch-able.

omg hi. Much puppy. Very feather. So pet. Wow.

As if to be helpful, she twisted her head around to rub her face against the girl's hands, and make her mane easier to get at. It at least made her extremely passive, even after she stepped away from SC to let V work her magic. The machine somehow got a perplexed look when she felt the window moving, and twisted around in place to look back at what was going on. The rearrangement left her laying on the floor, but her dinner-plate paws easily slid under her frame and left her standing again, shaking snow off of her hips and tail before trotting the rest of the way in. At least this didn't happen, eh?

Vulpyyyyyyy~ SC trotted over to the foxy lady and shoved her head into her friend's hands for more attention, but didn't linger too long. She had an eevee-thing to extract from a tree.

So that was how SC ended up shoving her front half under the tree, (after bobbing her head at Morrigan in a greeting and prancing in place for a moment) trying to bodily grab the entire shapeshifting espeon gently in her mouth and drag her out.

Because that's how I roll.

Papa's not coming, by the way.

BOY I BET THIS IS JUST AS BAD HUH MELODY.

Vanguard suddenly appeared in the shadow of the stairs, completely deadpan, hetero-chromatic eyes bright, and her sides unnaturally bleeding off into the darkness. She was still very much a zoroark, but... well. Half-demon zoroark, and not afraid to remind everyone of that. She smiled at Melody and Hades with her terrible ear-to-ear grin, displaying way too many teeth, but didn't otherwise do anything... threatening. Or move to follow them, when they moved away. The smile faded back into a deadpan, and she crept around the room instead, keeping to the edges and making her way sort-of generally in the direction of Raven.

'You're welcome.' The black-furred espeon flicked her ears back a little though they perked up at the next song, and she looked contemplative. 'Man, most of my favorite songs by these guys aren't the festive ones good for playing at parties...oh well. This one is always fun, too.' She listened happily to the round song, eyes half closed as she Morrigan carefully as the umbreon (right?) danced nearby.

About halfway through, after the first set of rounds had finished, she closed her eyes entirely, waiting for the moment, then piping up happily.

'With ornaments and evergreen
with packages as yet unseen
all wrapped in paper colored bright
reflecting candles in the night
with carolers and mistletoe
and stockings all hung in a row
on fireplaces glowing red
with children safely sent to bed
Wi - fffffs.'

'OY!' And suddenly there was dog-breath and shiny metal all up in her face and a flailing espeon was yanked out of her hiding spot in the metal mutt's muzzle. 'That's the best part of the song!' she yowled, paws batting ineffectually at SC's nose. With a flare of power, she suddenly puffed into insubstantiality, a smoky, silvery shape with a dark ruff and glowing purple-black eyes. The ghostly shape flitted up and clear to a perch right by Raven before shimmering and turning back into a silver and black eevee and fluffing up all her fur.

Vanguard got a momentary look and she huffed a soft sigh, glancing around. "At a party and all alone, as usual..." she mumbled under her breath, where only Raven might end up hearing, and even that wasn't going to be intentional. "One wonders why I don't come out very often, beh..."

Still, it wasn't a season for being grumpy and moody, so the black and silver eevee shook it off quickly and dove into the CDs. "With the good stuff you've been playing so far, you seriously have GOT to have Manheim in here somewhere...let's get 'Pat A Pan' playing next. That's such a fun song!" she barked at the deejay cheerfully.

Maybe over here she was a a little safer from the dog drool, but she doubted it. "And I don't even know half these people either..." she added in a quieter tone to the Gryphonkin. "And I'm absolutely horrible with names. This surely isn't helping." she flashed a sharp-toothed smile that invited Raven to share in the self-depricational joke.

Pfffhahaha that gif. That is so adorkable.

The blonde, fanged woman didn't seem to be able to stop giggling as SC walked in and over to V--the foxy lady of course obligingly scritched at her friend's feathery mane with a smile--and then over to extract the espeon. Morrigan yapped and wagged her tail happily at SC at the greeting nod.

V watched the smoke-eevee go floating past, then looked back to the metal mutt. "So, did you want those introductions now?" she asked, more or less aiming it at both of them, but since 'Vee was across the room it ended up looking more aimed at SC to the other party-goers.

"I'm Marigold," the younger woman piped up helpfully as she got over her gigglefit and wandered over with the full intention of continuing to pet the metal puppy.

And Mel almost hit the ceiling of the stairwell when Vanguard was suddenly right there, and nearly yanked Hades' arm out of its socket in the process. Just as bad. Yes. Certainly. Well, maybe slightly less bad, since she ranked the demon himself slightly above his offspring on the 'scares the ever-loving crap out of me' scale, but Vanguard was very scary demon-spawn and thus right under him on the scale. She practically charged up the stairs, the confused ghost-man in tow, now very much convinced that she didn't want to show her face at this party for the rest of the night.

One of the other party guests, the one with dark purple hair, nibbling on cookies in the chair by herself, noticed Vanguard's bit of creeping around and stared for a second before giving a small shiver and sinking down in said chair. Let's just ignore the demonic dark type, since this was V's house and thus clearly said demon-fox was welcome. Yes. Good strategy.

Raven, on the other hand, didn't seem to have noticed Vanguard yet--and, since she shared a lot of Celeste's memories, she'd actually probably have one of the more favourable reactions in the room since Celeste kinda-sorta-maybe liked Vanguard a little bit--and instead focused on the shapeshifting fuzzball her DJ booth had acquired. Especially her fine taste in music. "I like the way you think." Pat A Pan it was.

As for the self-deprecating joke, Raven smiled best as a beak could smile and reached out to lightly ruffle her ears if permitted. "Hey, I'm related to most of these people and I barely know them. Why do you think I'm over here?" She swished her tail slightly and chuckled faintly as she added, "Besides my not trusting Mel with the music, anyway. We'd be listening to 'Let it Snow' and the like ad nauseum if it were up to her." She picked up the Mannheim Steamroller CD she saw, double-checking that it had the song she was looking for. "You're free to lurk over here all you want."

Despite being across the room, V's vulpix ears visibly flattened at the words 'Let it Snow.' She was merciful, however, and did not smite Raven for uttering the name of the song that always made her hate it via overplay within a week of the holiday season. No, today was a happy day, not a day for smiting.

And I'm sticking this here

I am the doge master.

Despite being a dog and a machine, SC was very gentle with the espeon in her mouth, shuffling backwards out from under the tree. She had just enough time to sit up and look proud of herself before her 'prey' wasn't solid anymore, and her ears shot up in surprise. Her feathery mane fluffed up and then flattened as her friend floated away.

Ah... sure, she wagged her tail tentatively, still watching 'vee be unhappy. The silver dog slouched, tail slumping to drag on the floor. The new gal, Marigold, got the mutt to lift her head again and wag the tip of her tail hopefully. She remembered her manners suddenly, and dipped her front half low in a bow, I am the Steel Cerberus, but to keep everyone's head on straight, you can call me SC. Nice to meetcha! The dog woofed softly and shoved her head into Marigold's hands, feather mane fluffing and glittering gold and oddly soft.

Still, the machine was a little sad. How could 'vee say she was alone when SC and V were there? It made her want to mope a little. And chew up someone's shoes. Which is the same thing as moping, to some dogs.

Vanguard continued her prowl, though she hesitated when Raven suddenly had a visitor in the form of a black and silver eeveething. The half-demon fox monster sat down, fluffy tail sweeping the floor behind her like an angry cat. Pouting, she huddled up where she was sitting and looking around, spotting the one sinking into the chair at the sight of her. At first, she frowned, tilting her head and squinting as her dual colored eyes danced. Instead of rushing over to be a nuisance, she started looking around again, rearing up as tall as she could on her hind legs and slowly pacing in a circle, looking at everyone's face that she could see.

Holy shit, how many relatives does she have? the shadow shifter said in amazement, sitting back on the floor and curling her tail around her hind paws so it didn't get stepped on.

Ffffffffff, SC's ears flattened with V's as well, and she started reflexively chewing on air.

Because being a retail minion during the holidays is terrible. The music haunts you for years after getting out of it, sadly. I still can't listen to 'traditional' music, and I haven't done retail in like three years. Still like TSO, though.

The silver and black eevee shuddered at the mention of 'Let it Snow,' and nodded a little. "I've had enough snow this year for the next ten, without hearing people suggest that we want more...bleh. Those programs have hardly any taste at all. I've at least heard Sarajevo 12/24 and Wizards in Winter in some of the mixes, though, which is a relief...but not much. There isn't enough bleach in the universe to forget the time there was a dude singing Santa Baby..."

She tilted her head and changed the subject rather abruptly. "By the way, feel free to call me Vee, most people do." Not that this wasn't going to get confusing potentially. V and Vee in the same room. Woo! "I suppose I really should consider something a little less...generic or whatnot for people to call ME but...I'm not that good with names."

She waved a paw toward Marigold, making a mental note of the name, though certain she was going to forget it in ten minutes. "Best part is that even with intrductions I'm not going to remember who half these people are, actually," she decided to share in a quiet aside to Raven with a huff of amusement. "Names really aren't my forte, indeed. What sort of music you think we should try next? I could listen to Manheim all day, I admit, but I'm curious what other interesting goodies you might have in there." Vee buried her nose in the nearest box of music, shuffling through them and scanning titles with interest.

I really need to come up with some more interesting NPC sorts or something, I feel all small and insignificant right now. >.>
