Travel Plan: Crystal Dunes, Mount Fog Jax wove through the mountains, attention focused on getting to their destination as swifly as possible. She slowed a bit as the footing became more treacherous, rock coated in ice, melting under her paws. The thick ruff and her natural heat helped Ben keep warm enough in the unnatural cold. The lack of encounters had the benefit of making it seem to take almost no time at all. The downside was that all it did was give Ben time to contemplate whether or not Celeste was going to be mad about things if he pulled this off. Most likely he was worrying too much. And he had left the note... Spoiler: click to toggle Granted, maybe he could accomplish this and get back before Celeste found it... In any case, the cold gave himself something else to contemplate when they hit the valley. 'Even after all this time, the valley is frozen...wonder if its still here, then...' Ben could still clearly remember fleeing that wave of sheer cold. To have it persist this long... 'One legend at a time, jeez. Worry about other things if you survive this one...' Still riding and trying to avoid encounters. |

"How many assholes we got on this ship anyhow?"

3LP Giant white fluffy dog bounded through the snow with Ben clinging to her back. She streaked through the frozen dunes whose sparkly splendor went unseen. The cold sheer cliffs of Mount fog loomed ahead. Its shadow was a hazy apparition in the misty lowlands, and became a jagged dark monster as the dog neared. Summertime still tried its best to thaw the eternally frozen valley. Chucks of ice cracked as they softened and tumbled down the steep mountain side. Ben could hear their crash and crackle as they struck the rock face on their journey towards gravity. The sound echoed in this empty, desolate, and chilly landscape. Jax began a mad scramble up the slick mountain side. And then something whacked her in the face. The big dog yelped and slid back down. Ben was forced to climb off and make sure she was ok. She would have a horrible headache but seemed to be alright. Between her front paws was the culprit. Not a rock, but a tablet. Its perfect edges were way too familiar for Ben not to know what this thing was...but didn't he have them all already? Apparently not. Now he had another one that represented some pokemon type he had never heard of. NOW he had them all. Damn it. Take that universe! Take that!!!!!!! *Arceus sighs heavily* Jax resumed her climb up the mountain, it took awhile to reach the summit, and by then the bone chilling cold had left you both appropriately numb with chattering teeth. Well. There you are. On top of the mountain. Now what? |

3 ![]() *sniggers in the background* Nice shot, universe. *brick'd* Ben recalled Ross at least for a little, as Jax hit the mountainside, bounding from cliff to cliff up the sheer face. He prayed nothing would crumble under them and send them crashing back down, but the arcanine seemed to know what she was doing. Other places, snow and rock crashed down, but for now, they seemed all right. He could only hope... "Jax!!" Ben clung tight to the arcanine as something smacked into her full tilt, hoping they didn't fall as she skidded down a dozen or so yards before fetching up on a large shelf of rock. He slid off as soon as they stopped moving, rushing to her side to check on her face. The white arcanine whined groggily as she panted, trying to get her bearings as Ben ran worried fingers over her muzzle and head. Aside from a bit of a goose egg where it hit, it seemed she was all right, thankfully, as she licked at his fingers to reassure him. His boot thumped into whatever had slammed into them, and he growled a little himself, making ready to kick it into the abyss. However, as the aura registered, he paused, then dropped down, fingers tracing along the edges of the cool stone. "What in the hell..?" he muttered. It was even, far too even...and the shape... "It...can't be." He picked it up, brows furrowed in confusion. The aura...it was undeniably a Plate. But there were sixteen plates, and he had them already. A...normal plate? No...the Aura was nothing like that. It flickered with a feeling of mischief, a sense of mystery and magic and things not quite of this world. "This is impossible..." Ben muttered, then sighed. He couldn't deny that it was something, and to have come across it here, and now...it made him wonder. "You okay to go, Jax?" He reached up to scratch her ruff, and the white arcanine whuffled softly. Her head hurt, but it wasn't anything she couldn't handle. With that reassurance, Ben got back aboard and she bounded up the mountain further in the darkening night. Seventeen plates...another type of pokemon? Since when? It seemed impossible, but that plate was about as far from normal-feeling as you could get. It was a mystery, that's for sure... But there wasn't much more time to contemplate it, before Jax bounded up one more rocky slope and skidded to a halt. Ben sat up slowly, releasing the smeargle once more, as well as his lucario and exhaling softly. "We're here..." Slowly, he paced the circumference of the mountain peak, finding the highest point, and positioning himself in the center, before kneeling down, reaching to take out all the plates, one by one. Each plate clicked flawlessly against the one set down previously, forming a circle of the elements, as he worked. "When the universe was created, its shards became this Plate. The power of defeated giants infuses this plate. Two beings of time and space set free from the Original One. Three beings were born to bind time and space. Two make matter and three make spirit, shaping the world. The Original One breathed alone, before the universe came. The powers of Plates are shared among Pokmon. The rightful bearer of a Plate draws from the Plate it holds..." The sixteenth plate clicked between the first and the fifteenth, forming an unbroken circle. Ben hesitated, then pulled out the plate that had tried to brain Jax, running fingers over the smooth surface. It didn't have anything written on it that he could tell...so then what...Ben exhaled softly, reaching out slowly to set it with the others. Here went nothing... "At the edge of creation, the creator does sleep, Slabs of stone marked tell the story you seek. Across the world they lay, buried deep, Gathered, he shall wake, on high clouded peak..." The last, mysterious plate clicked down at the center of the circle and he fell back, almost afraid to breath as his pokemon flanked him, Ross clambering up to his shoulder to watch and wait under the night sky. Arceus Summoning 101 is a go. ...so gonna die now. Edited by DarthEevee, Oct 12 2013, 09:31 AM.

"How many assholes we got on this ship anyhow?"

4LP The plates began to glow. The ice beneath them hissed and steam rose. The light emanating from each slab grew white hot, but they didn't sink into the melting ice - they floated above the pools of the glistening water they were creating. They rose higher into the air, each a different color of light. They rotated in the air, now perpendicular with the new pool. In a circle they spun, the melting pool beneath them becoming deeper, darker. Higher they whirled, into the air, until a solid column of light was created. A beam of white light, created by the combined colors, shot down and splashed into the pool with a thunderous crash that made the mountain quake. Boulders of ice broke free and clattered to the valley floor. The ground continued to heave. A figure emerged from the pool, its crown of ivory horns appearing first. As its first hoof touched the pool's surface, it seemed to meet with solid matter. It climbed out, not a drop of liquid sticking on its sleek white sides. The pool was a mirror beneath it. Piercing red eyes roved across a purely alien visage. They penetrated your very soul when they fixed at last upon your face. Benjamin Summers. A voice that crackled like lightning boomed. Was it coming from the sky, the creature, or your mind? It was impossible to tell. The words were everywhere and nowhere all at once. Long have we expected you. Tell us, why do you summon the beginning of all? Those crimson eyes were like hooks, the words were like swords. They cut deep, and you knew you were in the presence of an awesome power. Perhaps THE power. You couldn't help but feel small and insignificant, awed and humbled. Of course it knew why you were here, but it wanted you to say it. Your move. ![]() Level 70 Chat battle, RP'd Battle, or Quest? |

5 ![]() Ben waited for a moment, but nothing seemed to happen. Maybe he was wrong... Energy flared, and he backed up a few more paces as each plate started to glow. Jax pressed close to his left side, as Anubis bristled uneasily. Ross watched with interest, committing the scene to memory, it seemed. They flared, each resonating with the power of the element they commanded. The last plate joined the others in spiralling upward, as the snow hissed and melted. And then they were no longer alone. From the puddle stepped a presence, one he couldn't mistake for any other, and Ben's knuckles whitened as he clutched Jax's side. Arceus stepped out of the pool of water as the plates circled overhead, and it was only with an effort of pure will that he didn't drop to his knees as the creator of all spoke. The voice vibrated through everything, the beginning and ending of everything. And it spoke his name. Ben trembled under the weight of that regard, reminded of how small he was, how unimportant. How little he meant in terms of anything. Who was he to have the temerity to disturb a God? What sort of cosmic punishment would be pressed upon him for his forebearance. He mattered not at all, after all... 'You matter.' Ben straightened slightly at the memory, taking a deep breath. He dared...because the god had dared. He had asked Ben once to do something for him. To help save the world from destruction. That was what had started this. That the god had come, and asked him. Why? "I...I'm here looking for answers." It still took a moment for him to find his voice, and it sounded small even to him. Weak, like a leaf to the wind. "And...to find out why I was considered worthy..." To get answers, he would face down even a god...because he couldn't continue, not knowing. He had to at least try. We'll go chatbattle, and I'll write up what's going on in my head here, if it works (or not *crosses fingers*). ._. |

5 Thanks Tenchi. There was silence on the peak as Ben stood there trying not to flee for his temerity. Arceus stood before him and his companions, silent, contemplative, inscrutable. To ask such things of the creator of all...to dare to question his her? Probably simplest to just use it, Arceus was above something as simple as a gender intent, to dare to summon the Original One to simply ask 'Why me?' seemed the height of insolence. But he'd been wondering for years now, and it ate at him, and he couldn't leave it alone. Those eyes raked through him again, paring his soul, and it was only Jax and Anubis' presence beside him, solid and unwavering in their faith in him, that kept him from falling to his knees and stammering an apology for his actions. 'Stupid, stupid, stupid...' Answers. The word echoed everywhere and nowhere at once, and Ben swayed a little as the force of the word washed over him. You wish answers from me? That usually requires a question... Arceus knew, the creator had to know, what Ben wondered, but it seemed that it wished him to actually speak it aloud. To dare to question it. Ben couldn't tell if the creator was amused, or angry, or even simply curious. The sheer power of the god overrode any other ability to sense anything from it, even with Aura senses. But he'd managed to get this far, how could he back down now? Just... why me? Back, years ago... why me? I'm not anyone special. Especially not then. A voice that sounded suspiciously like Eisen prodded at the back of his mind. 'Is that just you saying that, kid?' She'd warned him once that people lie to themselves more than anyone else, hadn't she? He ignored the voice. He really hadn't been anything exceptional then. He'd had only Jax and Peter, and that was it, walked out of his house because he got tired of his parents trying to live his life for him. On a journey with just two pokemon, not very experienced... There was a moment of silence again, then the god spoke, as if to a small child. There was power in the amulet, power that to see it would cause the viewer to crave it. Who better to safeguard it than he who couldn't see it? But you split it in half. And I was hardly any sort of protector...I could hardly protect myself. Jax growled a wordless protest to that. She was there, and she could have protected him. He patted her soothingly. She'd just been a growlithe then, and they'd been so new to traveling... You presume to question my motives. Why do you need to know, even? My will is to ensure the safety of my creations. You would not understand, you cannot understand, with your small mind, what I know. It should suffice to know that I did what was best, and I did it for the betterment of all. Ben trembled a little under the slightest flicker of anger in the words, but he didn't back down. He'd come too far now. You gave us free will, though. Freedom to question, to learn, to grow...to understand. I have to know. Why? Why split it and give it to someone else if looking on it was a danger? Why give it to someone who might be able to look at it? Why not do it sooner? Those eyes penetrated his soul once more, and he wilted slightly under the stare. The power weakens if it is in two parts. Even if only one was destroyed, it would be enough. And doing it too soon would have given too much away. You question much, Benjamin Summers. There was a faint hint of warning to that, but Ben ignored it. It's a fault of mine... Ben managed the slightest ghost of a smile at his own self-deprecation, steadied slightly by it. You are such imperfect beings... Ben wondered if he'd been supposed to hear that, if Arceus was trying to bait him, or if the god had simply been musing to himself. He wasn't going to rise to it, though, it it hadn't been simple contemplation. I wouldn't have it any other way, myself... it makes life interesting. But... why me? Surely not only because I'm... I couldn't see it. And why did you give me Goliath? He could have brought the tyranitar, and maybe he should have, but the titan hadn't had the same qualms about any of this, secure and happy in his life nowadays. He didn't have much chance to contemplate that, as Arceus was speaking again, however. He needed a purpose. You needed a protector. You would give him purpose. He is all that he ever wished now, and more, is he not? But... There are questions for which there are no answers, Benjamin Summers. I ask again, why do you summon the beginning of all? The words echoed with the force of of an earthquake, and Ben shuddered under the onslaught. It was impossible to stand in the face of the creator, to question him. He was such an idiot. Arceus knew that those questions were just his excuses for coming, any more. Something he could dare to tell himself. It knew what he was afraid to admit even to himself, sometimes. And it was suicide... He should just go before Arceus flattened him for presumption. I... want... He was absolutely crazy. I just... want to.. prove my worth, I guess... I need to know it wasn't just... It wasn't just that he was blind and nothing else that had been why he'd been given an amulet. To prove that he had achieved so much and was worthwhile. To... It wasn't something he could articulate, but the power blazed. You dare to question my judgement? Ben flinched back as Arceus tossed its head back, one hoof pawing agitatedly at the surface of the pool of water. You dare to presume... No, that's... Ben shook his head violently in negation. Wasn't it, though? I just... I have to know, to understand... You cannot understand everything. It is not meant for you to understand. It should be enough that I chose as I did, and there should be no reason to question my reasons for such. Go home, Benjamin Summers. The creator turned as if to step back into the pool. ...no. Arceus stopped, and his head turned slightly, one eye studying the human and his pokemon. No? There was a quiet danger under that word, as it reverberated through every fiber. But it was too late to stop. I can't just go home now. I have to try... So be it. Power flared over the peak, as Arceus reared up with a furious cry. Ben stumbled back against Jax as she stood like a stone from the sheer power of that, as Anubis and Ross bounded forward. The smeargle braced himself as he started painting across the mountaintop, shimmering paint warping the fabric of time around them for a bit. Power rained down, pure and swift, slamming into Ross and flattening Anubis. Jax reared back with a howl, a shield of shimmering energies flickering into being just in time to shield herself and Ben from getting lanced by a few falling stars. Mount Fog shuddered, and several late night residents in Malral looked north, worriedly, watching the rain of light as it flashed down from the sky. Ross staggered back to his feet, dazedly, before he raised his paintbrush, sped up by his alterations of time as the stars danced under Arceus' direction. A thick green powder rained down over the god, before he could do more, and he slumped, as bolts of electricity followed a moment later. Ross shook his head muzzily, gathering up the pain he was feeling and tracing the lines all down the god's slumbering form. Arceus himself shuddered under the power of the paint, as the smeargle laid it all back home to roost where it had started. Ben, now! Anubis levered himself back upright as he hollered, ears slicked flat against his head. The trainer gathered himself and hurled one of the Dusk Balls, powered up by the night, at the recumbent form. It didn't even manage to suck in the power before it was overwhelmed and shattered, and Ben winced, trying again, hoping against hope. The ball connected, and Arceus vanished within. It clattered into the puddle, and Ben forgot to breathe for a moment. Had he just... The ball exploded outwards, a furious roar echoing over the mountain. Arceus reared his head back, power slamming outwards as the sky rained down more fury at its creator's command. Ross crumpled under this, as Anubis bounded forward to scoop him up, narrowly dodging several lances of death himself. You DARE..?! Ben yelped as he was slammed backwards, skidding across the peak. Anubis skidded to a halt beside him as Jax bellowed back defiantly. Get him up, I'll buy you time! He set Ross down beside his trainer, Anubis..! Ben levered himself partially up as the Lucario charged. Damnitall... He dug out one of the revives, as Anubis charged into the fight, skidding under the god as he reared back, injuries healing even as they watched. The lucario slammed into his leg, and was kicked into a boulder with a yelp, before coming right back. You would dare even TRY to capture me? You fools... Hooves slammed down onto the peak, and the stone crumbled, sending them all flying. Jax tumbled a dozen or more lengths down the mountain as the cliff crumbled beneath her, skidding to a halt as she got her paws under her, howling. Ross sat up groggily as Ben scrambled for a hold to keep from falling himself. Anubis staggered up, barely standing, before ice frosted over his paw as he lunged forward, slamming it into Arceus' chest as the creator reared back once more. And then there was silence. Anubis half collapsed, staring at the ice sculpture that was now before him in shock. He regained his bearings a moment later, and shook it off, barking sharply over his shoulder. ROSS! The smeargle was on his feet at that in an eyeblink, paintbrush flying as he sketched flames, and a viscous purple slash of paint, yellow bolts of lightning and speckles of spring green all over the frozen form. I... dare. Free will... you gave it to us all, didn't you? It means we have to test our limits, to try and see what we can achieve. Free will means we question things. That we seek answers to those questions, determined to understand why. Like why someone, hardly even all that good at being a trainer, would be picked to protect the world. Why would they, over others more experienced, more capable? Why would I be any more worthy... if it's just because I can't see... I intend to prove that wrong! Ben staggered to his feet, ignoring the protests of his scraped and bruised legs, before hurling one more Dusk Ball at the block of ice. He wasn't going to be defined by his lack of sight. He was tired of it. Silence reigned on the peak, then the ball clattered to the stone, and rattled. I dare... because I have to try. I have to know... Ben slumped a little, too tired to care if the ball even worked. Silence as deafening as the roars had been reigned for a heartbeat, then another. And the ball shattered, razor shards of ice flying to slash across the night. Ben yelped as a few slashed painfully into the arm he threw up to protect his face, as well as his side. Anubis covered Ross as best he could, weathering the assault as the hooves slammed down once more, and the peak collapsed around them all. Ben yelped again as the earth collapsed under him, sending him tumbling down with half the mountain all around him. Anubis grabbed up Ross desperately as he hopped from rock to crumbling rock, barely keeping the both of them from getting crushed in the slide. Jax, already bounding back up the mountainside, howled her rage and lunged right into the slide, energy shimmering as she pounced, snapping her jaws shut around cloth and flesh. The two of them slammed into a cliff several hundred feet below, stone bouncing from the shimmering barrier of protection and skidding on past. Anubis tumbled onto the shelf as the last few rocks slid past, Ross clutching his shoulders. Ben! I swear to...you had better not be dead after all the other times you've nearly gotten yourself killed..! The lucario staggered up and half fell over Jax as she sat up, panting heavily. Thank the maker... he mumbled as he sensed his trainer's Aura, still alive, if badly injured. It was none of my doing. Arcanine and lucario bristled as Ross looked up quietly at the shining form. Arceus stepped down, seventeen plates circling around it, brimming with power, as the creator studied the assembly. To achieve such loyalty that some would die for your foolishness...and risk themselves to save you...that is a mark of the highest trust indeed. Jax and Anubis exchanged surprised looks, but the creator wasn't finished. Arceus lowered its head slightly, red eyes glowing. It is as I expected, and knew. And as you could not understand... to be willing to take such risk and to have the bravery to see it through, even if it might mean your death... Free will is a powerful thing. Power flared in the night once more, and seventeen stones clattered to the earth around the four, like a gentle rain. Another star fell, drifting down to join the group as they watched in confusion. Courage to defy the gods is a rare thing. We shall see if you continue to prove your worth, Benjamin Summers. I shall be watching... Edited by DarthEevee, Oct 21 2013, 08:41 AM.
