Word Count: N/A Summary Reward "Give me one reason why I shouldn't kill you." The words were slightly distorted, Elissa's flanging voice turning to an all the more unnatural, buzzing hiss. Her claws were poised at the human's throat, and she could see him trembling, see the terror in his eyes. She was shorter than him--she was shorter than the majority of humans--but that mattered little when he was on his knees in pain. She could see that in his eyes, too, the agony he was in from the broken arm and ribs he'd been given. "P-please..." "One. Reason," she repeated, enunciating the two words very carefully. There was no mercy in her piercing yellow eyes, staring unblinkingly into his. Her tail, its dark fur on end, lashed behind her as her instincts told her just to rip his throat out. They would have done no less to her, after all. She could hear the faint clip-clop of Roberto's hooves as the girafarig went about psychically rifling through the pockets of the other, unconscious men, and she could see Corvus out of the corner of her eye, hopping around one and peering down at him, as if the dark-feathered pidgeot were debating how edible he was. The human was aware of them, too, with the way his eyes darted away to look at them before meeting hers again. "I-I'll pay you," he said, his voice shaking more than he was. Elissa pulled her claws away from his neck, very slightly. "What will you pay me?" she asked, her tail lashing again. He stared at her, it fully sinking in that the first answer he gave would likely also be his last. He swallowed, and Elissa watched his throat move as he did. She could taste his fear on the air with every inhale, and she waited with patience veiled as impatience as he tried to think what he could offer her. "I h-have a pokemon," he said, finally. When she didn't end his life right there, he continued, his words increasing in frantic speed to leave his mouth. "A rare pokemon. An absol. They're big and have claws and teeth and blades on their--" "I know what an absol is," she hissed sharply, and he instantly fell silent. "Give it to me," she demanded a moment later. The man's eyes darted to his broken arm. "It's on my belt. It's the only ultra ball. He hates me. I just caught him. He'll probably love you for taking him away. Just please--" Elissa's hand moved like lightning, the blunt edge of her claws ramming against his shoulder and sending him slamming onto his broken ribs and triggering an agonized bellow. She snatched up the ultra ball from his belt and pocketed it, then looked at him. She'd intentionally avoided damaging his legs, something that was also true of his knocked-out comrades. "Get up, and start running," she told him as her tail lashed one last time. "But if you're lying about what's in here..." *We will find you.* Elissa glanced over as Roberto came trotting to her side, eyes aglow. The man obeyed, struggling one-armed to his feet and then taking off as fast as his feet could carry him. Elissa had to squash the strong, predatory urge to lunge after him and give chase, but once he was out of her sight she relaxed with a slow exhale of breath. "Well..." she said softly, looking at her first pokemon again. "...That was fun." *Indeed,* Roberto agreed, somewhat flatly, before he looked at Corvus, still examining the man. *I think you'd be better off eating the rats around here,* he commented, and the giant bird stopped and stared at him, her eyes glowing red. "Back in the ball, for now," Elissa said quietly, holding up Corvus' pokeball. The pidgeot didn't resist being recalled, and the fairy didn't even bother to pull her hood up as she started to walk away from the evidence of the brawl she and her pokemon had handily won. Deep in the shadowy alleys of Kevin Baconville after sunset, Elissa was just beginning to get a real taste of what the big city was like. So far, the biggest difference was that thugs traveled in larger packs. *I certainly hope that is a rare pokemon,* Roberto commented after few minutes of weaving through various streets. Elissa smiled a bit with her eyes. "I hope so, too," she replied, "Absol are beautiful." "Not unlike someone else." The unfamiliar, masculine voice made the pair stop in their tracks, and Elissa immediately turned to face the source. Roberto snorted and pawed the ground warningly, but no attacks came their way. Instead, there was a set of bright green eyes gleaming in the night, reflecting light like a cat's iris. Their owner stepped forward, and Elissa found herself looking at a particularly tall human man wearing a suit. His skin was a downright sickly pale, and his facial features were sharp and almost predatory, with a hooked nose, severe-looking brow, and thin lips. His hair was the same jet black as his suit, tied back in a ponytail, and when he smiled at her she noted that his teeth seemed a little too sharp for a human. "Forgive me," he said, his deep, baritone voice calm and smooth, as if it were every day that he met a creature like the one he was addressing. "I didn't mean to startle you. It is just difficult to see such a beautiful woman and not make my opinion known." Roberto's eyes were glowing with power, and he flattened his ears at the strange man. *I can't read him,* came a warning flickering across Elissa's mind. The fairy, however, was too stunned by the stranger's words to fully process the psychic whisper. "I...Thank you?" She shuffled uneasily. Of all things she expected to run into in these streets after her previous scuffle, if anything, this was certainly not it. "You're welcome," he replied, still smiling that slightly-too-toothy smile at her. He bowed to her like a gentleman. "But I'm still being rude, aren't I? I've yet to introduce myself. My name is Faolan. Faolan Bryne. And you would be?" The inhuman woman was silent for a moment, but when no advice to lie was given to her from her silently-glaring girafarig, she said slowly, "My name is Elissa. Just...Elissa." "Elissa," he repeated, his tone admiring. "A lovely name." Despite herself, the fairy who had been threatening an injured man with death earlier in the evening found herself thankful for both the dark shadows and the darker tone of her skin for hiding a blush she felt forming. *Can we help you?* Roberto suddenly snapped, and Faolan looked at him in surprise, as if only just now noticing him. His smile was back in place a second later as if nothing had happened, and his gaze locked right back on the psychic pokemon's trainer. "Well..." He took a couple of steps forward, and Elissa instinctively tensed, though she didn't let her claws out. "It's more the other way around, if you'll forgive my forwardness, lovely Elissa..." He bowed again, holding his hand out. "Would you do me the honour of joining me for dinner tonight?" Edited by Vulpix Windchimes, Jan 17 2013, 11:37 PM.
