May I tell you a story?

Oh, I can? Good, good!

I like telling stories, though I don't think I've ever had a chance to before! This will be fun.

Which story shall I tell you?

Shall I tell the tale of the broken Knight? Oh, she has secrets, let me tell you. She has a big heart, and is as protective as any Knight should be of those that she loves, and yet... yet she has no love for herself. At the rate she's going, she's not going to live long enough to regret much of anything. Though, I will admit that she is rather interesting to hear about, with all the nonsense she gets up to.

No? Hm.

I could also tell you about the Thief. Her tale is sort of sad, if you look at it the right way. But, I won't get into it. Things will come to light at some point, I already know. So you'll just have to wait. I could tell you about what she's done here, though, if you would like. It's not often that one person ruins so many lives so quickly.

Not interested in that one either? Well, I can't tell you the good parts, so that makes sense...

Well, I know other stories as well. There is a Seer I know about, though oddly enough he lacks, shall we say, a certain kind of vision. I could tell you about the Lord, but he's kind of dull, and nobody really cares about him. I'll put you to sleep with that. The Sylph is interesting! I really want to meet her, hopefully after she's realized her own powers a little more. Maybe I could help her, even. The Muse... I shouldn't talk about the Muse. I want to learn more about her later, myself. Hopefully I will... The others, I'm still not exactly sure of their classes. My choices are kind of limited, so I may be wrong with them. Maybe if I get to know them better I'll get a better understanding. But-

...hm?

You... already know their stories? Or you don't... care, that's fine too. Heh, you likely don't even know who I'm talking about with all that. Which is fine! I'm trying to be mysterious, and I don't think I'm doing a good job! So, what do you want me to tell you about?

...oh.

Me?

You want to know about me?

Well... alright.

I am the Rogue.

And the gods want to kill me.

The night felt longer then it should have, like some greater force was artificially stretching it. Putting some kind of sleepy funk over the town to keep people in their deep sleep. All in all, it was unnaturally dead and quiet.

A four legged shadow with a long tail ghosted through the streets, darker then the night itself. If anyone saw it, they may think of a dark omen of legend taking the form of a black dog with red eyes. Today he was nobody's omen. At least nobody that would see him coming. That was the plan anyways.

A gold and silver dog clomped along heavily with the black one, all armor and machinery in contrast to the black dog's intangible shadows. They both defied logic and reality, more then had become the norm around this region. Then again, reality has a way of being stretched, not quite breaking around this place.

The front doors of the Center slid open as the silver dog approached, jumping through the frame and landing in the center of the lobby. She looked left and then right, observing the couple of trainers that had fallen asleep on the benches instead of getting a room. Perhaps, they had not intended to sleep in the first place. The demon dog ghosted past with a soft growl, Quit fucking around, before he hears us.

I'd be very surprised if the boy didn't already know we were here.

Which is your stupid fault.

I never expected him to get out, you know that.

And he should have been destroyed when you realized he was of no use to us.

You also know that I can't do that. It's not that easy.

Then we continue to have this problem.

The metal dog's paws thudded heavily on the stairs as they ascended together to the trainer accommodations upstairs. Up in one of those rooms, a boy's eyes snapped open behind his black sunglasses and he would have sat upright if it wasn't for the red lizard sprawled across his chest. His eyes darted around in the darkness, and Khaos very carefully slid himself out from under Draco. A sweat was breaking out on his forehead even though their room was pleasantly cool, and he gathered his shoes up to throw them on as he heard the footsteps getting louder. He was still decently clothed, at least, though he knew nobody was going to see him. All he could think about at this point was that he hoped that whole 'nobody seeing him' wouldn't become a permanent thing.

Khaos pried the window open and hopped down to the ground, unphased by the two-story drop. Cowardly as it may have seemed, he knew they didn't have any interest in his pokemon. They were safer if he wasn't around for this. Looking back for only a moment to see if he could see his pursuers yet, he turned and bolted into broken Escennia.

The locked door clicked and swung open, the metal manipulated as if it was clay. The black dog pushed his snout in first, and his ears flattened immediately.

He's gone! he snarled, lunging for the window and leaping through it. His sides bled away to smoke for a second, and the dog hit the ground running. The silver dog seemed to frown, despite being made of metal, looking at the pokemon sleeping in the room. She gave particular attention to the sleeping red lizard, sprawled out on his belly on the bed. The points of light that could count for pupils in the eyes rolled, and the dog dissolved into a bolt of silver light that shot through the window and reformed in midair on golden feathered wings, legs tucked in to follow, leaving silence behind.

Cautiously, Draco opened one eye when he thought the monsters were gone, and lifted his head to stare at the window. His eyes were big; he'd only caught a glimpse of them, flickering his eyes open only for a moment, and he had no idea what he'd seen. They were certainly no pokemon that he knew of. Draco threw himself off of the bed and over to the window, putting his claws on the sill and looking around for any signs of... anything.

The starter warbled helplessly into the night air, turned, and ran for the door.

Ah. You have questions about them, don't you? Likely wondering what they are and why they're after me, I'd say.

Well, like I said, the gods want to kill me. Though, I suppose kill is a strong word in this case. Only one of them wants to kill me, you see. The other... I'm not sure. I don't think I could have gotten out without her letting me... for what purpose, I don't know. Her own amusement, perhaps. She does things like that.

Oh, I'm getting ahead of myself. I'll start over. They are shapeshifters, one of the light and one of the dark. While they can be whatever they desire, they've settled on two main forms; a mostly human one and a mostly canine one. They can still easily be whatever they want, at least in this realm.

The Steel Cerberus is a god in a machine, a six-winged canine with a mane of golden feathers. She is the more benevolent one of the pair, nowhere near perfect but still far more likely to help then to hurt. A flashlight in the darkness, if you will. She has a mastery of all things metal and electrical, and an iron-like sense of loyalty to match. And is as stubborn as the metal she named herself after. As with all interesting individuals, there's more to her then can be put in words, and I doubt she'd appreciate me going into too much.

Akuryo Cerberus is the shattered fragments of a weakened soul, broken away many years ago. Not that he'll ever call himself that or even acknowledge that's the case, always instead referring to himself as a demon or devil. He's the one you have to watch out for; he thinks only of himself, and takes what he desires in nearly every aspect of everything, and does not like anything being out of his control. He can also breathe fire and move freely in the darkness, and that's kind of annoying.

As for why they're here, that's as complicated as they are. They are a part of a group of gods for this world, mostly unknown and unnamed by the masses living here. Some prefer to only sit above their creations and never directly interfere. Others, like these two, don't mind stepping in when they feel a need. Some times more subtle then others.

They're very direct when it comes to me.

Khaos was panting in his eerily silent way as he ran flat out through the dark streets, a dangerous shadow practically at his heels. The giant dog jumped and plowed his front paws into the boy's shoulders, knocking them both to the ground. Akuryo's serrated teeth were just about to chomp down on the boy's neck when the ground shook from another arrival.

Aku, hold on.

For what?

We've got him now, let's just drag him back.

While the pair were bickering, Khaos lifted his head. He was weaponless, that much he knew, but he looked at his hands anyways. Getting a sudden idea, the boy reached up and back.

I'm not letting your mistake become our continued proble- he stopped when he felt hands close around his skeleton, hidden in his shadowy body. Khaos grabbed the twisted frame and heaved, flipping the shapeshifter over his head and plowing his nose right into the asphalt. Bits of the shadows broke away, as if they had been abruptly and impossibly frozen and were as brittle as glass. It gave the lad the chance to scramble away and take off again while the silver one was blinking in surprise.

What the fuck was that? Akuryo roared, rolling to his feet and shaking melted ice away. He gave SC an accusing look, Did you know he could do that?

Ah...

The black dog lunged forward suddenly, so they were nose to nose as he trailed from his ears, What else can that little shit do?

Same sorts of things we can do, remember? she explained, nonchalant even with the smell of brimstone in the air.

The demon snarled and snorted fire into the machine's face, turning and stalking away to find their fleeing prey, Then we need to go catch him before he realizes this.

Steely reached up with a sigh, scratching at the thin layer of black soot on her armor. At least my eyes didn't get broken. Fuck's sake, she sighed, cleaning up her face and trotting after her other half.

Khaos had his hands clamped over his mouth and was trying to keep from breathing as he hid nearby, only hearing the heavy steps of the machine as she stomped past his hiding spot wedged between some discarded boxes waiting for the garbage in the morning. He swore he saw the dog's folded ear twitch at him, and shrunk a little, but she did not look in his direction as she continued on down the street. Finally, when it seemed quiet, he let out an audible breath and rested his arms on his knees. What to do... he was at a loss.

It wasn't as if he hadn't known that. He'd just been trying to avoid that sort of thing, to keep from drawing attention to himself. And the one time he'd done something drastic... he hadn't been himself anyways. But, if he wanted to keep going, he had to do something. Getting dragged back wasn't an option he wanted to consider.

Khaos wiggled out of his hiding spot and stood up, brushing his hands off on his pants. Hiding wasn't going to do him any good, at least not for long, so the only option was to fight them off.

He just needed something to defend himself with. And he had just the thing in mind.

...did the temperature just drop like thirty degrees?

The black dog stopped and frowned, looking back to see his better half standing in the middle of a wide avenue, looking around. The street was lined with shops ranging from clothing to jewelery, to weaponry. The kinds of things that rich people spent their money on just because they were bored and had nothing better to do. Akuryo, filled with fire like he was, parted his jaws and let smoke bellow from between his jowls. It had nothing to do with the current air temperature.

You tell me, the undead shape-shifter said. Steely's ears were perked up as much as they could go, a bright spot of light darting around behind the smooth glass-like eyes of the machine. Instead of scanning the street, the dog inclined her head slightly to look above the ground, and was rewarded by something flying through the air and the sound of shattering glass.

WHY do they ALWAYS go for the EYES? SC whined, an arrow embedded through the shattered eyepiece, blue liquid sluggishly leaking from the jagged hole. Her other half snorted dismissively, ghosting up next to the silver dog as she tossed her head, thrashing in the street. Akuryo looked up slightly, lips curling back at the sight of the gray-haired boy crouched on a nearby roof, reaching back to draw another arrow from the quiver.

Stand back, I'll rip his fucking eyes out for you, see how he likes it, Akuryo snarled, crouching to spring. Before he could complete the motion, Khaos loosed the arrow he had gotten ready, and it thudded straight into one of the black demon's eyes. This one quickly froze the area around the dog's red eye, keeping the dripping red from getting very far. Akuryo made a sharp, inhuman shriek, and started clawing the arrow and the ice away. It crumbled away easily, leaving behind an empty eye-socket and sun-bleached white bone. Now, any facade of calm was gone as he looked up at Khaos, smoke rolling from his mouth and inner ears lit up like a furnace.

Alright, you little shit. I'm done playing with you.

...me again? Why are you so interested in me? I'm... nothing important. Nothing worth being curious about, anyway. I'm just...

...

I suppose if you really want to know that badly, I can tell you what I'm able to. I can only imagine how things look from an outside perspective. You may be left with more questions then answers, though.

Those two made me. Named me, but didn't give me a form. Power, but no purpose. Concept with no real substance. I was supposed to be the balance to their duality. If you pay close attention, you may have noticed that she is kind of a fan of it. Opposing forces, two sides to the same thing. But she knows, with her light to his darkness, that not everything fits in a nice, neat little box. So... I started as an idea. The thought light and dark could temporarily become one if needed to. More powerful together then they were separately. A chaos monster, if you will.

That is where creation stopped, though. There were thoughts of a form; dog-like, sharing attributes of both halves but still unique. Nothing was ever finalized... and I was forgotten.

This was years ago. I got out recently. I'm still not sure how I did it, but I broke out of their box, their crushing nothing, and came to this place. It was the only place I could go. I didn't know what I looked like, so I sort of just picked something and made it my own.

I know what I am. I've always known. I'm alright with that. I know what this place is. I know what's possible. I understand everything you do. Yes. You.

And that is why she keeps me quiet.

By the way, the bow and arrows? Stole them.
