"How many assholes we got on this ship anyhow?"
|
The alien's crew tore out of the poisoned town just as fast as they could add to the cloud of smog with their own diesel fueled exhaust fumes. The blighted plains reeked of rot and death. Of hapless things cought out in the open before realizing too late that very few things could survive here - let alone thrive. The General's goal was not the open marshes of toxic waste though, it was the barrier mountains in the west. Aside from the plains themselves, this had been the most inhospitable location that Floyd could think of. Deep in the poisoned ravines, gasses too toxic for humans (and most anything else) to breath, hung in still waves of fog above stagnate pools of waste. This would, by far, be the worst hunting trip yet. Having been there once already to hide the drive, going back wasn't going to be easy. Especially with the knowledge that something would have taken the Shock Drive by now and mutated into horrendous proportions. Floyd's crew would have to find this thing, and defeat it. Failure was not an option. At least this is what he kept telling himself. Failure was certainly an option if you just so happened to DIE in the course of the days events. Floyd didn't plan on dieing today. Really. Who put dieing on their to-do list anyway? Til'k was in the drivers seat today, with Helsing and Mantrid in the back. Floyd was in the passenger seat keeping a figurative eye on the infrared display built into the dash. He was keeping a lookout for heat signatures and signs of movement. The alien was paranoid after the last two trips. He wasn't about to take any more risk than he had too. Entering Ravine > Heading for Barrier Mountains 62 Til'k 70 Helsing 61 Gray 60 Mantrid 62 Sillia 61 Milton. |

3 ![]() In all fairness, the last person to die on Legacy got to be immortal. So maybe it's not so bad... oh, wait, no, never mind. Well, anyway. Driving through the area in a good-quality military-grade vehicle had its benefits, even if a Geneticore was behind the wheel. The whole point of vehicles is to avoid encounters and knowing the construction of this p0articular vehicle also helps. It was indeed well-built, well-founded and rather well-paid for... Value for money, ladies and gentlemen. This value for money had to pay off. Most wild creatures weren't going to go near this kind of thing. Most wild critters weren't that dumb. It'd be stupid to go near the loud, noisy thing that could run you over in two seconds flat, right? Plus, it was fast. Fast, heavy and big meant pain. So, with all the scenery around you, there were some mountains up ahead. It looked like a giant wall of stone. Enough that you would call them a barrier between yourself and the sea? Yes. Might as well go have a look. Reached Barrier Mountains. |

"How many assholes we got on this ship anyhow?"

3 The M12 rolled to a bumpy halt. It could go no further. The beast of a machine might be able to transverse a variety of otherwise unnavigable terrain, but climbing mountains was not one of them. From here on out, it was on foot. Floyd and his pokemon climbed out, not one of them saying a single word. They stared as an awed group up at the menacing black wall of stone. It was laced with deep ravines, one of which they immediately set off for. Til'k automatically took the lead. He was still childish enough to always want to be first. Floyd let him. He needed the sharp senses of his companions to keep them out of hot water here. And then there was the idle laying against his skin, feeling ice cold and disturbingly aware of everything happening. There was something about Floyd's quest to recapture his devilish creation that it simply salivated over. As yet though, it had kept out of all excursions. Now though, it was awake. Perhaps the setting was simply too much for it. The poisoness place oozed with evil. It probably felt right at home. Oddly enough, Floyd welcomed its presence. It felt less alien to him all the time and more like it was meant to be there. He and his pokemon always seemed to preform better with its assistance. And this time, Floyd had never wanted help more. When he'd hidden the drive, he'd flown over the mountains and dropped the thing down a random ravine. There would be no walking right up to it this time. He'd have to wake for it to come to him. "Right." He sighed. "Let's do this." And he walked into the deep shadow of the mountain. |

3 ![]() There was a distinct pattern emerging with these drives. Wherever a drive was hidden, there was some unwitting wild pokémon that got too close, became corrupted by the artefact's power, and went on a murderous rampage. Given the kinds of pokémon that called the mountains their home, Floyd would not have a pleasant time retrieving this one. The party ventured deeper into the mountains, picking their way through rough terrain and loose boulders and ledges barely large enough for T'ilk to stand on. The one saving grace at this point was that none of the local pokémon wanted anything to do with the genetic abomination that led the group, so they were able to pass through relatively unmolested. T'ilk noticed the light first. Right now, the party was on a mountain pass overlooking one of the area's many ravines. The Geneticore had picked up on an intermittent flashing light down in the crevasse. The curious thing was, it didn't look like it was caused by a flame. It was more fragmented and strobe-like than that. Floyd and company were free to investigate, if they could get themselves down there. |

3 Creeping along crumbling ledges was quickly placed on Floyd's 'Never do this' List. It was also put on his list of 'suicide ideas' because it was sure to be fairly effective. It didn't even seem strange to the alien that he had a list for ways of committing suicide. He'd started it back when he'd first been stranded on a planet over run with bald monkeys. He'd told himself it was always good to have a back up plan. This was turning out to be back up plan number 283. Til'k might have seen the light but he didn't think enough to point it out. He was bit dim witted like that. Mantrid was the one squeamish enough to look down. The flashing light in the darkness was more frightening than the suggested height. He jabbed a horn into Floyd's back, nearly startling the alien right over the edge. "Hey! Watch it!" Floyd clung to the rock face and shot the centipede a dirty look. Mantrid pointed to the bottom of the ravine. "Oh. Well. That's not normal." He stared for a few more minutes, the gears in his head working and his displeasure growing. "Something that weird has to be it." He sighed. "WHY did it have to be way down there?" He whined and withdrew the scaredy centipede and released Helsing. Really? Was all the psychic had to say. "Yes really. I need your help carrying Til'k down there. Milton should be able to help me." The moth fluttered hopefully. No he can't. "Why not?" He doesn't know Fly. "He has wings, don't he?" That doesn't mean he can lift your sorry ass into the air. Floyd stared blankly a moment more and then turned toward the moth. "Milton, don't take this wrong way or anything." He started to unzip his jacket and take his shirt off. Milton's eyes widened in horror and Helsing hid behind a claw and shook his head. Floyd stood half naked in front of his poor pokemon and blushed furiously. This was where tattooed HM's became a bit weird. "Uh...just touch the griffon tattoo..." Right. Nothing weird about stripping in front of your partner and asking him to touch you pect's. Milton hadn't moved. He'd sort of frozen in the air, flapping his wings only enough to keep from plummeting like a rock into the abyss. "It's not like I'm asking you to fondle me or anything. Just get it over with. You touch the tattoo, and its powers get transferred to you." He dreaded the day he needed to teach someone the HM CUT. This was dreadfully awkward. Milton still hadn't moved and Floyd was getting impatient, standing on the narrow rock ledge, his jacket and shirt in one hand and his other clinging to the rock wall. He started to growl at the stupidity of it all. Something inside him stirred. The being within the idol uncoiled itself. Floyd could feel, more than hear, the whisper of leathery wings unfurling. Milton shrank away from his trainer. The creepy black smoke was oozing out of the aliens skin again. The Griffon perched on his shoulder was glowing now, the ink, normally washed out in white light, was vibrant and alive. The art work seemed to breathe. Milton was transfixed. Floyd's hand left the rock wall and shot out, grabbing the moth by the scruff of his furry neck. Milton screeched, jerking away and pulling Floyd with him. There was a pulse of violet light and then Floyd was falling. The moth had a brief 'oh shit' moment as watched his trainer tumbling off the edge. The fat bug dived from the air, swept by him in a ball of brilliant flame, and reopened his wings beneath the falling figure. Floyd flopped against the fluff and fur of Milton's back and hung on for dear life. Both were confused as hell about what had just happened. The alien stared up at the sky and could see Helsing and Til'k peering over the rock ledge. Til'k looking relieved. Helsing looking traumatized. Milton flapped his way back to the ledge, Floyd still clinging like a tick. "I think," Said the alien through the muffling bug fur in his face, "That Milton CAN lift my sorry ass into the air." He cleared his throat. "Now that THAT is taken care of, maybe you can help Til'k out?" Fine. Came the tight lipped reply. Helsing was still mulling over the incident as he wrapped his pyschic energies around the monster and teleported to the ravine floor. Floyd had never done that before. If a pokemon wanted to learn an HM, it had to reach out and take it. Floyd had grabbed Milton and had somehow triggered the HM power himself, without Milton's having to act. Perhaps he was over thinking things, but it hadn't been like that before the idol. Floyd had not had the will power to awaken the HM's on his own. Now he did. And he didn't even know that he had. Floyd was equally surprised but wasn't going to question it. He wasn't a broken heap of meat on the ravine floor. Again, the idol seemed to be there when he alone proved too weak to save his own ass. And Milton...well, Milton had not appreciated getting grabbed by the angry alien. However, he was cowardly enough to feel like it was somehow his fault for not doing as Floyd had asked to begin with. He was confused and right up until he saw Floyd falling, pissed. Now that Floyd was safe he had the time to feel the new strength coursing through him. Helsing was right. Before, he would not have been able to carry Floyd. Now he could. Floyd had not been trying to be perverted, he had been trying to give him more power. Perhaps under other circumstances, he would have known better. As it was, he'd panicked, and nearly sent the stupid alien into the rock below. "Sorry about spooking you, buddy." Floyd whispered to bug as they floated down into the darkness. "I seem to have a short temper these days. Thanks for catching me." Milton chittered back that it was fine. Apologies were ok when they were genuine. And besides, now he could carry someone, which really did make him more awesome. Now it was time find Helsing and Til'k and figure out what was making the flashing light. Edited by Maverick, Jul 1 2012, 12:45 PM.

5 because of reasons.Helsing and T'ilk were in for a bit of a nasty shock when they got to the bottom of the ravine, quite literally. But we'll get to that later. Floyd clung on to his fat fluffy fire moth as the pair descended more leisurely into the ravine, guided by the intermittent strobe lighting. It was deep enough that the trip down took a minute or two, which allowed Floyd to notice something else about the source of the light. There was a very faint crackling sound, which as Floyd and Milton got nearer, became more noticeable. It became loud and jarring. Then the hairs on Milton's body started to stand on end. The only way that could happen was if there was a huge static source ionising the very air around them, but it wasn't as though they were unlucky enough to be accosted by a giant angry source of electricity or anything. Yeah, about that. This has not been Floyd's week. When Floyd touched down, he would see a frazzled-looking Helsing, moustache hair splayed out in all different directions, and T'ilk staring at something over in yonder cave. The source of the light, and the crackling was staring at the intruders from the entrance to the cave. A giant Eelektross, dozens of feet in length, snaked its way out of the cavern and into the relatively open space of the ravine floor. Spikes of electricity spat out in all directions as it snarled angrily at Floyd with a mouth bigger than he was. How did an Eelektross get down here? Was it going to feast on alien flesh tonight? Will Helsing ever manage to straighten out his facial hair? Stay tuned. ~~~~~ ![]() Lv. HolyCrap Levitate HP - 100% *grr* (Uncatchable) |

3 "Does that look like what I think it looks like?" Floyd asked Helsing as he and Milton rejoined them. The looming electrified shadow writhing toward them grinned in the darkness. If you mean if I think it looks like a giant leech, then yes, it looks like what you think it does. "I think we're screwed." I think you're right. "Try to kill it anyway?" Do I have the option of running and screaming like a little girl? "No." Then yes, Let's try to kill it. ... "Helsing?" What. "What happened to your mustache?" You. You and your damned fool ideas are what happened. I hate you. Floyd shrugged and released every pokemon he had with him. They gathered and awaited the grand elaborate Master plan they knew was coming. "...Try not to get squished." Smooth. Floyd. Real smooth. Nope, no fancy tricks today. They were just SOL. "I'll uh...have the potions handy. Spread out so it can't sweep you all at once." Everyone stared. Finally, Silia, the gator thing, shook her head and stalked off, determined to try a Foul Play. She couldn't think of a more fitting scenario to use it. Milton, taking her movement as a cue to move, called upon his new found strength and summoned the winds to aid him with a hurricane. His storm would be trapped within the walls of the ravine and might batter the slimey thing to death. Helsing dared to latch onto its mind with his psychic powers, and Mantrid...well, this was Mantrid. He had few weapons in his arsenal. His horns were about it, and they were dripping with poison. He charged and hoped to poke it somewhere...anywhere. Then there was Til'k. Til'k knew how to slash things, and so that's what he did. Gray just hovered there, looking at a loss (if it was possible to have an expression). Floyd patted its hull and handed him the bag of potions, keeping half to himself. They were going to need them. 3 ![]() Commence round three. Floyd's pokémon appeared, and fanned out around the oversized Eelektross. The monster was big, but relatively slow, which gave the outnumbering party the initiative. Helsing started proceedings with a burst of telekinetic energy that slammed into the monster's side, enough to cause a small amount of recoil. T'ilk sliced into the other side with one of those scything claws, which allowed Mantrid to dart in and infect the wound with those poisonous spikes of his. Milton tried to whip up a storm with his wings, but the unpredictable air currents in the ravine made the actual dangerous part of the hurricane pass harmlessly overhead. Perhaps the bug would have better luck next time. By the time Silia used the monster's own power against it in a dastardly strike, Eelektross was ready to unleash hell. The sparks from its body intensified, the beast screamed, and the ravine was flooded with massive bolts of lightning that sought out anything and everything. The only problem with spreading out the party was that it didn't matter if the opponent could just attack everywhere at once. We'll start with the good news. Silia was a ground type, so no problems there. T'ilk was nice and bulky, and so was not too greatly troubled by the stray bolts of lightning striking him. Helsing, Milton and Mantrid, though, were somewhat less tanky than their teammates, and they all felt the effect of the brutal electric attack. Milton in particular - the poor Volcarona started to spasm as the current played havoc with his muscles. Paralysis was not a pleasant thing to experience. Still, nobody had been KO'd this time. And the poison had already started to take its effect on the electric beast. So there was that. ~~~~~ Helsing 71 - 144/213 Til'k 62 - 196/248 Mantrid 60 - 82/180 Milton 61 - 169/244 Krookodile 62 - 248/248 Gray 61 Vs. ![]() Lv. HolyCrap Levitate HP - 41% turn 1

4 The initial attack had left everyone still standing. Floyd couldn't believe it. He rushed to Milton's side and administered a paralyze heal before running off to find Mantrid and give him a quick boost with a superpotion. Meanwhile, Helsing continued his assault on the twisted things mind, eyes blazing purple and beads of sweat popping out on his forehead. Til'k was shaking off the effects of being blasted by lightning and stabbing the poor giant leech, once more, with his two scythe arms, trying his best to rip open its side. He was covered in blood and gore already and the thrill of the moment was sending the mindless beast into a frenzy. He couldn't resist trying to rip off a piece of ragged flesh for a quick snack in passing. Mantrid was going to try for less physical contact this time, and vomited a wash of toxic fluids on the leech in the area nearest him. Mantrid, once his muscles were under his own control again, continued to work on his hurricane. The neat freak germiphobe found this whole ordeal disgusting but the perfectionist in him demanded he get the storm right. This left Silia. With a sinister gleam her eye, she charged the leech, once more determined to prove size wasn't everything. And Gray? If it were possible for a souless machine without feeling to cower, that's what he was doing. Behind that boulder over yonder. He wasn't alone. Once his job was done, Floyd tucked tail and ran to join him. 3 ![]() Helsing's ongoing assault on the Eelektross' mind intensified, to great effect. The electric monster screamed and thrashed about, allowing the rest of the party to get their attacks in before it retaliated. T'ilk got his chunk of flesh, ripping it from the larger monster's body and devouring it with gusto. It tasted somewhat like a gamier version of sushi. The latent static charge in the beast's muscles gave it a nice spicy kick. Good thing the Geneticore was Limber. Mantrid kept up the toxic barrage, this time with a set of chemicals designed to react to the toxins currently circulating the leech's system. They burned into flesh, and almost finished off the monster. Almost. That particular honour was reserved for Milton. With Floyd's medical aid freeing the moth from paralysis, he beat his wings viciously, summoning up a powerful storm that this time did not miss its target. The streaming winds, combined with all the earlier punishment, proved to be the tipping point. Eelektross let out one final screech, and slumped to the ravine floor, defeated. Not so terrifying after all, then. The last thread to tie up here was the location of the Shock Drive itself. A quick investigation of the cave that Eelektross had emerged from would uncover the object in question, and then Floyd could get out of here. ~~~~~ HP unchanged. 4 It was dead. It was actually dead. Or at least, it was so sick it had passed out. Floyd wasn't about to go poking it with a stick or anything. He slunk past it and a rather smug looking moth, into the darkness of the cave beyond. Small arcs of light drew him to its location. The drive, looking no worse for wear in spite of having been dumped down a ravine from a spacecraft and then horded by an overgrown leech. He wrapped it in his shirt and jacket, which he still hadn't put back on, and ran back out of the cave. His pokemon had gathered as far away from the unmoving beast as they could. He'd rejoined them in seconds, brandishing the drive with both hands. "Got it. Let's get the ell out of here!" No one was going to argue with that. Calling the Sunflare, no one breathed easy until they were all on board and flying east. Floyd carefully stashed the drive with the other three. One more. Just one more and then he would have to prepare for the most frightening encounter of his life. Genosect now qualified as a legend - albeit a mutant one. If their last encounter was telling, their next one was something Floyd still needed to prepare for. But that was jumping ahead. There was one more drive to get before they could up their trap. Flying to Slumber. |
