The chimera lurks in forests old
The experiment is very bold
He'll throw the dirt and smash the trees
He'll bring his foes down to their knees

"I really wonder how all these damn monsters have managed to stay hidden like this. I mean, I've been through this forest how many times? Never seen it,"

"Who cares. Let's go find it, beat the shit out of it, and go home."

Standing on the edge of Deepwood, Steely looked at the haxorus next to her. "Always straightforward."

"No reason not to be. You figure out what you need to do, you do it, you go home. Life isn't complicated," Rapier looked at Steely.

"Must be nice to have things so simple."

"Well, shit's only complicated when you make it complicated. Are we going or what?"

"Yeah, yeah..."

"Where are we?"

Do I look like a GPS to you? Ask the damn ship.

"Fine. Computer, where am I?"

//You're current location is a M class Planet called Earth.//

Floyd slapped his forehead with both palms and groaned. He really hated the AI on the Sunflare.

"I meant, where in Deepwood Forest am I?"

//You are approximately five klicks North West of the Human settlement called Deepwood.//

"THANK YOU. Ugh. That means we're going the wrong way." Addressing the mass of limbs and teeth skulking just ahead of them, "We need to head more south if we're going to make Deepwood before nightfall, Til'k."

Why did you insist on walking? Snarled the psychic type floating along behind him. The damp is making my fur frizz!

"I've already told you. I'm looking for the last Holy Mechanism. According to the poem, it should be here somewhere but there's no hint of where. So I'm scoping things out on our way to the lab. Or do you have a problem with that?"

I do have a problem with that. The alakazam jabbed a claw at his mustache. My Mustache has a very big problem with that.

Floyd didn't reply but kept on marching through the wood. Ten minutes passed. Til'k was in the lead, using his heightened sense of smell to hunt for whatever the chimera was. The beast froze, tail flicking in excitement and head tilting to the side. Floyd and Helsing stopped and watched carefully. Until then, Til'k had found nothing.

"Be ready..." He hissed quietly, drawing his gun and creeping up behind his 'son'.

Til'k's serpentine head stretched out, sniffing the air. His six eyes widened. He licked his lips, and then leaped for the branches above. Floyd's eyeless skull followed him. The Geneticore, for all his size and weight, knew how to remain unseen and still move swiftly. He was designed to be the ultimate killing machine.

"After him!"

Helsing darted ahead, tuning into the monsters unique thought patterns. Floyd raced after. Through the blue haze of the damp wood, Floyd could see two blobs of heat ahead of him. One in front, and the other above but rapidly fading from view. And then...

Two more blips of heat. Two very small blips of heat. One undeniably human.

"Shit. Helsing stop him!"

On it.

The Geneticore's blood thirst started with humans. It was controllable only with a special pheromone which Floyd gave to individuals he knew were unavoidable. Or if he'd eaten recently.

Til'k burst through the trees above his prey, limbs spread wide - he froze in the air, his plunge halted feet away from the face of his blue eyed, blonde haired, trench coat wearing dinner.

Helsing sprinted into view seconds later. The suspended geneticore pawed the air, hissing and snapping futilely. Drool dripped from his maw and pooled on the forest floor. The psychics telekenesis held the monster in check.

Breathing heavily, Floyd crashed through the undergrowth a few minutes later. Taking in the scene and giving the axe headed thing a double take, he gasped, "Good...catch...Hel." Then he saw who the human was. "Steely?"

Let's save the hugs for later, shall we? Give the girl the damned pheromone. I can't keep his heavy ass in the air much longer.

Snapping out of it, Floyd pulled a flask from his pack and tossed it over. "Good thing you cought him, Hel. Electrical burns are nasty. I don't think I'd like to have Kentucky Fried Geneticore this evening." Til'k, had he been sane at the time this was said, would probably have argued that he could hold up to being electrocuted, stubborn as he was. But Floyd had never been particularly interested in testing his former seconds unusual powers.

Rapier snapped her head up and screeched, a noise Steely had never heard her make before. The skinny dragon's tail came up, catching Steely in the belly and pushing her away, while the armored dragon put her body between her trainer and the lunging geneticore. The blades arcing out of her face glowed purple, as did her claws, just as the monster stopped in midair.

Steely, knocked onto her ass like she was, blinked in bewilderment. Normally, she would have flipped out at the geneticore, since she'd tangled with one of the larger ones, but Floyd's voice made her stare at him in confusion. When she caught the flask, something in her mind clicked over.

Oh, right. Floyd had one of those monster-things, didn't he? Steely... couldn't remember if she'd ever met the thing or not. She didn't think so, but she was thinking that she should have at some point?

While Steely was thinking, Rapier sniffed at the drooling beast, then at the glass in Steely's hand, and put two and two together. She took the vial from her and snapped it in half over her head. Steely snapped her eyes shut and cringed, shaking it off a little and only really succeeding in getting it everywhere. Which was prolly a good thing.

"What?" she blinked when Rapier ambled over and grabbed her by the collar and bodily hauled her to her feet, "Floyd?"

"Which one, the drooling one or the pointy one?" Rapier rumbled in her native tongue, looking from Til'k to Floyd.

"The pointy on-"

"What the fuck is he, anyways? I like his face, though."

Steely blinked at the dragon, shaking her head a little bit. She couldn't remember if Floyd could understand pokemon language or not... it wasn't like Helsing wasn't right there and everything, though. She carefully skirted around the chimera to get over to Floyd, followed by the dragon on all fours, eyeing Til'k suspiciously. Steely patted at the wetness on her head, rubbing her hands together and making a face as she stopped next to the OME General, "What are you guys doing out here?"

For lack of breath, he simply nodded dramatically. Helsing filled in the blank.

We're on our way to Deepwood, to revive a fossil. But Stupid here thought it would be a fine idea to look for another Holy Mechanism along the way and was using the slobbering garbage disposal to sniff it out.

Floyd shot Helsing a venomous glare before puffing himself up and saying, "Well, I wasn't counting on humans being in the woods."

I told you they would be. But you never listen to me.

"I can't help it if I tune you out after an hour of insults!" He shot back obstinately.

Enough!

Helsing released the monster with a flourish of his paws and Til'k crashed to the forest floor in a clatter of limbs. The alien rushed to his son's side and petted the stunned fiend, drool and all.

Oh would you stop hovering over him like a hen? Snapped the Alakazam. He was about to eat the Lieutenant General.

Til'k shook off the drop and found his footing so quickly that his 'father' was knocked aside. He wasn't interested in being babied. The strong scent of human had suddenly vanished, replaced with the over whelming odor of --

Til'k snaked his head forward and sniffed at Steely.

Floyd. He'd done it to him again. Aggravated beyond reason, the monster gave Floyd a swift kick and stalked off into the bushes, vanishing as quickly and quietly as he'd appeared.

"Maybe he'll understand one of these days..." Floyd sighed, rubbing his hip where the Geneticore had caught him. He turned his attention back to Steely, but couldn't help looking at the axe headed reptile protecting her.

'It must be another one of those pokemon from Jgsei.' He decided, having never seen one before. The creature was obviously conversing somehow with the woman but Floyd had never understood pokemon. Helsing was his only translator. The snickering devil wasn't about to include him on the creature's comments, but from from his hissing laugh, Helsing definitely found its thoughts funny.

"Sorry about this, Steely." He mumbled as he swept off his backside. "But yeah, we're looking for the Chimera. I was hoping Til'k could pick out something that didn't smell like pokemon."

Technically he had, but human wasn't on the menu for today.

"How about you guys?"

Steely stayed perfectly still, though her eyes widened and she unconsciously leaned away from the sniffing monster. Even though he looked pissed when he left, Steely let out the breath she'd been holding when the monster disappeared. That meant it was safe, right?

"Hey, it's cool. No harm done, eh?"

Since Til'k had disappeared, Rapier stared at Floyd openly now, up until Steely jabbed her in the soft underbelly.

"This is some crazy serendipity here, but that's actually why we're here too. Well, the monster hunting, anyways. Guys, this is Rapier. Rapier, this is Floyd and Helsing, and the big monster was Til'k."

Rapier looked at Helsing and jerked her head up slightly in a 'sup' gesture. She'd met Guru shortly after she was caught, so she'd seen his species before. She swiveled her head around, like she was looking to make sure Til'k didn't jump out of the bushes again.

Steely turned back towards Deepwood slightly, still looking at her alien friend, "What kind of fossil do you have? Maybe after you revive it, we can go hunt down the Smash monster together? Be easier then butting heads with it alone, at any rate."

Rapier snorted quietly; psh, easy. None of this adventuring was ever easy.

"Rapier, you say? Nice to meet you." Floyd bobbed his head a bit to say hello. "Teaming up sounds like a wonderful idea. Here lately my luck with the HM's have been so bad that if I hadn't joined up with someone, I'd have never came back alive."

He fished out a clear gold colored stone from his pack and gave it to Steely for inspection. "This is one of my more recent investments. The insect trapped in that resin could possibly have the DNA of some prehistoric pokemon still intact. This particular species of mosquito is said to have been extremely fond of Aerodactyl. I've heard of several people having luck in reviving these creatures and I'm very interested in obtaining one for myself."

Only becuase they grew large enough that it could swallow him in a bite. Groaned Helsing. Really Floyd, what is your fascination with surrounding yourself with creatures that can EAT YOU?

The Alien continued as if the fox hadn't spoken. "I would love to have company to Deepwood. Thank you."

In fact, Floyd was getting excited about this excursion now. It had been a long while since he'd been able to spend time with his former comrade and chance had landed him with the most perfect of opportunities. Nothing made life risking trips more bearable than a good friend to intervene when things got too serious.

"Shall we go then?" He asked eagerly. "Deepwood isn't far from here. We can be there within the hour."

And Til'k? Did you forget about him?

"Til'k will be fine. He'll blow off some steam, eat a few things, and be ready to meet us when we return."

Things being other hapless trainers wondering the woods... Helsing muttered.

"What was that?"

Oh...nothing. Let's get moving.

"Clearly this promises to be a fun trip," Rapier wrinkled her snout while Floyd fished out the old amber, and she leaned over curiously when Steely took it. The trainer turned the stone over in her hands, squinting at what was within. She had an aerodactyl, sure, but she didn't revive Obversaria.

"Yeah, I've heard the same thing. Never actually seen one of these in person, though," she handed it back to him after she got her fill of looking at it, "I got my aerodactyl from that weird legendary catching contest-thing."

Floyd may not have heard Helsing, but Rapier sure did. So while Steely nodded merrily at Floyd and started walking in the direction of Deepwood's research center, the skinny dragon blinked at the psychic fox-thing.

"What the hell was that thing, anyways?"

"I wasn't too far from Deepwood in the first place, so you were nearly here anyways," Steely laughed a little as they came out of the trees and into the town proper. She'd been to the research center at least three times, herself, so she knew where it was, "I've been having mixed luck with the monsters. The Yeti wasn't too bad, but then again we've fought him before," she chuckled, "And I had a nearly-full team of fire types, too. The Whirlpool monster, not so easy."

She shivered at the memory. Friggin'... tentacles.

"How've you been, anyways?"

Btw if anyone is reading this and scratching their head: We're not gonna make a new thread for being in Deepwood itself, since I want to keep the whole thing in one thread. So if you're like 'waaah' just keep in mind that both Floyd and Steely can teleport/fly so they would have zero issue being in the actual town itself. Also I'm too lazy to have the thread split up so there.

"Oh, not too much." Replying to his friend's inquiries. "Keeping a low profile mostly. Picking up the HMs, gonna work on some of the gyms next, I think. And uh..." He hefted the rock in hands. "Working on the collection a bit too."

Up the steps of the lab, and through the glass doors, Floyd's familiarity with the employees became apparent when he merely nodded at the mildly surprised security and kept right on going. Floyd's was a face that was hard to forget. The General stopped at the reception desk, leaned casually against the counter, and beamed at the poor woman seated behind it.

"Hey there pretty lady." She actually wasn't. Not unless Floyd was into grey hair and wrinkles. Helsing stifled a laugh.

"That's Mrs. Howser to you." Her pinched face squinted at him over the rim of her glasses. "Something we can do for you today, General? Or are you just here to spread the bull?"

"Oh man!" He clasped his hands over his bad heart. "You wound me. Always with this rejection, Mrs. Lucy. What makes you think I didn't come here JUST to ask you out again, eh?"

"Because you already have a date." She raised a painted eyebrow at Steely. "Besides, you're not my type. So stop feeding me the bull shit and let's get down to business. What do you have for me?"

"Oh fine, be that way." He plopped the chunk of amber on the counter top. "Check this out for me will ya? See if there's any viable DNA left and uh...work some of your magic." He grinned some more.

She took the sample and peered at it closely. "Insect in amber. Well, I'll give it to the Lab Geeks and give you a call if they find anything. In the mean time, you have a few things to learn about humans."

"Oh, and what might that be?" He tapped his claws over the counter, happy to humor to the ill tempered woman.

"For one, don't flirt with other girls in front of your lady. Even old ladies, like me."

Floyd snorted. Helsing started to turn blue in the face.

"Two, ladies like to be taken out for dinner, not to dusty old labs that smell like your gym socks."

"I don't wear socks." He replied with a smile, purposely missing the point. The psychic could take it no longer and ran from the door.

"Three, ladies like pretty gifts that sparkle, not resurrected ancient monsters that will think they're dinner."

A rasping guffaw drew their attention to the door. Lucy stood up to get a better look. "Your pokemon going to be ok? He's not sounding so good."

"Oh, he'll be fine." Floyd waved off the concern. "He's just choking up a hairball. Comes from licking himself too much. Nasty habit that."

The laughing abruptly ceased.

I do NOT lick myself!

Floyd ignored him and bowed to the receptionist. "I'll be eagerly awaiting your call. And uh, thanks for the tips." Looking at Steely he motioned for her to go first while looking back at Lucy to make sure she knew he could be a gentlemen if he wanted to be. She shook her head and sighed.

"Well, now that's done, it's time this uh...date, gets interesting. I can't say I'm interested in going out for dinner though, not unless we hunt it down and beat it to death first. And as for sparkly things, how does a shiny new Holy Mechanism sound to you? Good enough for a first date? Or will Alex be jealous?"

So Floyd was basically up to about the same thing Steely was up to. Except for the low profile thing. Steely always had a low profile... Floyd not so much, being the General and all.

Steely herself was also rather familiar with the lot of them in the research center, and she found herself wondering if Steve the Scientist was here. The batshit man was pretty amusing, but it didn't look like she would be seeing him today.

The girl was also struggling to hide her laughter while Floyd and the front desk lady. She quickly decided that it was in her best interests to just keep quiet and let them do their thing. It was only after they got outside that she felt in-control of her own laughter enough to speak.

"If it makes you feel any better, Floyd, I do like resurrected ancient monsters too!" she laughed, patting Floyd on the arm, "But I can never say no to an HM, at least. And who says Alex has to know?" she winked at him, and laughed again. Playing along with the silliness was fun, that was for sure. She glanced back at Rapier, who was trailing behind them and staring, "Dunno if I'm too keen on chasing down dinner, though."

"Yeah, fuck that. I'm too lazy for that anymore."

Steely dusted her hands off when they got back to the edge of the forest, and tried to think. "Shame the trees are so thick that it'd make it hard to search from the air... I was thinking of having Gatekeeper look from the air, since we're on the ground. Though you'd think that something strong enough to rip up trees would be... you know, large and obvious. Apparently not since it doesn't seem like anyone's seen this thing before."

Floyd wriggled his tail in delight. "Secrets from Alex!" He laughed loud enough to send the squirrels leaping from their hiding places. "Ah, to see his face the day he finds out...the idea of it makes this all the more exciting." He smiled proudly, chuckling to himself. "I think I like playing the bad guy. Do you think he'll want to beat me up? Humans do that over their females, right?" The novelty of the idea would keep him in good spirits all day.

They continued walking a ways when Floyd picked up a unique scent. Like someone who needed to brush their teeth - badly. That could only be Til'k. Where ever the beast was, he was close and keeping out of sight on purpose.

"You're right, if this doesn't want to be found, it's not going to be. But it's not going to be found at all if we don't use every means we have to smoke it out. It won't hurt to let your flyers search if you have them."

I have an idea, if you don't mind me butting in.

Floyd stopped and looked around at the Alakazam who'd been keeping unusually quiet. A tilt of the head meant keep talking.

If this thing resides in the forest, it could be it reveres its home. The poem might say it can tear up the trees, but that doesn't mean it wants to or there would be plenty of signs of it. Perhaps is we were to do it...

"You mean, what if we waltz into its living room and bust a hole through its flat screen and drink its beer? You think its gonna walk through the front door, find some unwelcome guests and proceed to kick our asses?"

No dumbass, it's gonna invite us to tea!

"I get it! No need to be an ass about it." Floyd snapped back. "What do you think, Steely? Provoke it, or hunt for it?"

Steely laughed again. Mostly because the idea of Alex wanting to beat anyone up was hilarious.

"Some humans do, yeah. I don't see Alex being the type, though. He's way too calm for that kind of thing," she finished with a chuckle, hoping that it didn't rain on Floyd's parade too bad.

"I actually only have one flier with me," she pulled the ball off of her belt and rolled it between her hands while Helsing and Floyd went back and fourth. Steely was quietly happy that while her own psychic pokemon might have been difficult at the worst of times, as least they weren't that bad.

"Could do a little of both? Never hurts to have a lot of pairs of eyes out, especially if it's going to show up and feed us our livers."

Pause.

"Or whatever organ you have in its place, I guess?"

Aliens are weird.

Steely decided to contemplate the biology of toothy aliens later, and released The Gatekeeper. The big black and white hydreigon appeared next to her, rearing all three heads up and sniffing the air. All three luminous sets of red eyes turned to look at Floyd for a second.

"That's Floyd. Floyd, this is The Gatekeeper." she patted the dragon on its middle head. "Want to help us find a monster? We don't know what it is, we just know that it's big and mean. Feel like doing some flying?"

The hydra's nostrils flared briefly before his wings flipped open and he leapt up into the air to circle above them. Steely was contemplating the 'wreck shit' aspect of their plan when she heard a wavering-energy sort of noise, a fwip, and the sudden sound of a tree falling over. Luckily, the behemoth bit of wood fell away from them all, but Steely turned around to see Rapier standing near a gigantic stump, her axed face glowing purple.

"What? You said we could wreck shit. So I did."

Steely froze, listening to the forest. After the initial squawking and noises of fleeing wildlife, it became unusually quiet.

Floyd could not entirely hide the disappointment on his face when he learned that Alex was a pacifist and a fist fight in the name of chivalry would not be forth coming. He grimaced and aimed his sour expression at the ground. Then, just as swiftly as it had appeared, the dark face was gone. He brightened and declared, "I'll just have to try that much harder to piss him off then!" It was difficult to tell if he was joking or not.

He remained silent until the subject of livers came up. He tried to remember what that was and Helsing had to remind him. Floyd looked genuinely horrified to learn that humans only had one such organ. The General made a mental note to stop challenging his new recruits to drinking contests.

The Gatekeeper proved to be yet another Jgsei native species that Floyd had yet to set eyes on. The creature's unusual colors added to its menacing presence. The monster loving alien was impressed and watched with envy as the dragon took to the air and cut through the canopy, sending a curtain leaves down upon their backs.

However, it was inevitable that the alien be ripped from his reverie. Not even he could ignore a tree crashing to the ground. In the awkward silence that followed, a very unsettling thought shook his nerves.

Nothing said that the chimera was actually big. Capable of massive devastation, yes, but the poem made no reference to its size. It's longstanding unseen presence in the forest was easily answered if it was actually of a modest size. Rapier shrugging innocently at her felled tree was testimony to this. Rapier wasn't a small pokemon, but she was by no means the giant he had pictured in his head of the chimera.

"Uh...Steely." Floyd mumbled, trying to decide how best to put forth this little dilemma. "What if this thing isn't big and scary - just little and mean?"

Til'k chose that moment to drop in front of him, somehow making his one ton weight drop as lightly as a cat from a tree branch. Floyd had forgotten that his son was still lurking in the woods. It was an easy thing to forget when the man-eater could creep as quietly as a mouse and pack all the punch of a freight train.

Big or small, I still see only one way to get it out in the open.

"Point taken." Floyd sighed. "Til'k, help Rapier kill a tree."

The geneticore thought this was a huge waste of his talents. Trees were not edible. He rolled his eyes and as insolently as he possibly could and stomped over to the nearest tree. Using the limb with the crab claw, he punched the trunk.A crack sounded, and the trunk splintered, and the tree fell.

"Well, don't stop there! You'd think I'd miss two beers in a room full kegs?"

Steely was picking leaves out of her hair when Floyd spoke, and paused to consider his observation.

"Well, shit."

She hadn't thought of that.

When Til'k dropped down, Steely involuntarily jerked away from the monster in surprise, and Rapier bristled as much as her armored form would allow her to. The dragon's arms slumped when the monster went to wreck a tree, and she licked her lips and turned to a bigger tree then the geneticore had just knocked down. She hunkered down a little, her face axes blazing purple fire, and again swung her head at the tree, sending it practically flying off of its base.

"Her competitive streak is going to get her hurt one of these days," Steely sighed, adjusting her hat. Knowing that the dragon wouldn't care, Steely didn't bother reprimanding her. If the geneticore and the haxorus got into it, then it was Rapier's problem.

"So all we know is that what we're looking for is not a pokemon, and it lives somewhere in this forest. Prolly either burrows or lives in trees, if it's not that big," she reflexively glanced up at the canopy above them, "Especially if nobody has ever seen it. Hm."

Rapier sauntered over to go wreck more trees, heading in the general direction of 'away from Deepwood'. Steely figured that they may as well have more help, and pulled out another pokeball to release its contents. Agro the aggron appeared, and sunk into the springy ground slightly. The steel dinosaur was pretty Arceus damn heavy and sturdy. Perfect for steamrolling some trees.

"Heeey Agro, ready to wreck some stuff?" Steely waved for him to follow them, "Just stay close and destroy whatever you want. We're looking for a monster."

Agro had become more peaceful by nature after living with Steely so long, but the titan looked around and blinked. At least wrecking things was easy. He ambled away on all fours, and with a quick snap of his tail, another tree buckled and started to fall. The dual type continued to move away from them, looking around. Steely let him do his thing, trying to pay attention to what was going on around them, hoping they didn't get snuck up on.

Floyd tried his best to stay out of the way. Til'k had never had someone to be openly competitive with him before and it didn't take long before he decided he liked it. Everyone on Floyd's ship was afraid he was going to vomit acid on them and eat them. They remembered him as he was before Squishy had taken up residence behind the wheel. He was no longer that unpredictable unless it was around humans. Humans were something both he and Squishy had agreed needed to be exterminated.

So, a little tree killing was all in good fun for him. Rapier would drop a tree, and Til'k would scurry to find one just a little larger until the game became simply, who could fell the most. And then all the while Helsing worked at a steady pace at one quarter while Steely's Agro bulldozed another. It was not longer before blue sky filtered through a cloud of dust in the newly made clearing.

All signs of pokemon life had vanished, not that there was much to hear over the slamming of trees into the ground and the splintering of wood. Floyd still began to feel uneasy, and with very good reason.

Across the blue splash of sky, something dark leaped past the sun. He wasn't the only one to notice. Helsing picked up on the other mind as quickly as Til'k picked up on the wild scent. The game ceased, and senses sharpened, they strained to listen for the new arrival.

"Do you think..." Floyd hissed as softly as he could to his partner, "That Gatekeeper saw what it was?"

In the nes tmoment, it was not the new arrival that showed itself but several trees. The fully mature conifers, already felled by their own monsters, were picked up by unseen entities at the edge of the clearing and hurled from three different directions at the trainers at its center.

The game was on.

Steely glanced sideways at the alien general and scooted closer to him, as if that would help any. It made her feel better, and at least they were watching each other's back. Not like Floyd had traditional eyes or anything, but hey.

Rapier stopped abruptly when the shape darted, and spun around to try and see. The aggron didn't seem to notice, and continued his slow ambling.

"I have no idea," Steely whispered back, glancing to the sky.

Whether or not Gatekeeper saw it, they wouldn't get the chance to ask him immediately. Rapier got down onto all fours and raced over to the pair, her face lighting up with purple as she sliced a tree in half so the halves missed Steely and Floyd. The dragon hissed and flexed, thrashing her tail.

However, the only thing sent flying wasn't just trees. Steely looked up at a loud CLANG, and ducked down to see Agro flying through the air, hitting the ground and making it shake from the impact. Steely could really just... stare for a second. Agro was heavy, and whatever they were fighting had just thrown him like he was nothing.

"Floyd, I think we have a problem."

She saw the Gatekeeper roar and swoop, snapping at something that ducked down. Underground? Burrowing thing? Hm...

Floyd ducked and hit the ground rolling, trying his best to keep from being crushed by the trees. Tail tucked between his legs he reverted into full blown Scavian mode - which mostly included looking for a nice safe place to run to and shoot from.

No such luck, he glanced up at the blonde and nodded. "Yep. Can't argue with that!" Getting crushed by trees would definitely be a problem. These things...flew AND hid beneath the ground. He'd never seen anything like it. Floyd ran through his current arsenal, wondering what tactic was best to drive the monsters out of the ground and into the open. What did not surprise him was that they could hurl something as heavy as Agro across the clearing. After his previous adventures - this seemed par for the course.

"Helsing! Fall back. Reflect and Future Sight!" Meanwhile Til'k had screeched and ran to the newly made hole in the ground, stupidly cramming his head into the opening and clawing to make the opening bigger.

The alakazam appeared by Floyd and Steely, threw up a shimmering shield of energy, and then seemed to fall into a trance. He caught a glimpse of the battle ahead, and gasped.

"What did you see?" Floyd demanded, fighting the overwhelming urge to pick him up by his ugly purple coat collar and shake him.

Helsing shook his head. I can't remember now. He never could. Floyd prayed he really did manage to deal damage soon.
That's when he recalled he had Merrick with him. He would send the snake into the burrow. It would be a suicidal attempt to oust the things from their hole and a thin chance of the snake paralyzing and slowing them down with his glare.

The snake appeared no sooner than Floyd thought of this. The black and purple python hissed and slunk low to the ground, eying the strange human and her pokemon warily before taking in the scene and realizing he had much bigger problems to worry about that strangers.

"Merrick. I have a mission for you pal." The snake looked up. "I want you to..."

He didn't get to finish. Earth and rock exploded just behind them. A shower of soil blackening the outer shell of Helsing's shield and blocking off the view for the next few seconds. He could hear an ungodly scream and a half garbled roar. Something crashed against the shield, knocking away some of the debri. When the dust cleared a heap of something huge and scaly lay entirely inert, blood spilling onto the ground. Floyd gaped in horror as the blood ate and hissed at the organic particles in the earth.

Til'k! The psychic called out, uncharacteristically concerned for what had once been his whore.

"Shit!" Floyd cried. "Get him in here, Hel! Merrick, go!"

Helsing was already on it. The shield flickered out of sight long enough to dump dirt on their heads and drag the KO'd monster inside the perimeter. Merrick slithered out into the open. The shield came back up and Floyd breathed a sigh of relief. His son still breathed. The wounds were mostly to his face, which had been crammed into the burrow entrance, but the monster wouldn't be getting up anytime soon.

With the protective dome back in place and the dirt cleared, they could once more see and Floyd saw Merrick's tail vanish into the hole in the distance. What he ran into, would be anybody's guess.

Steely shook the dirt out of her hair and looked for Agro. Unlike Til'k, the aggron hauled himself up and shook off, though she could see that his chest was dented inward and his breathing was labored.

"Agro?"

"I'll live," he rumbled, tail thrashing.

He stayed outside the dome when it fell, and Rapier lunged to sink her claws into the geneticore's tough hide and drag him inside the barrier. Steely took a second to glance sideways at the dragon, "You're not going out there?"

"And let you two get your face smashed in? Nah."

The steel titan sat up outside the barrier, watching as the snake disappeared into the ground. The Gatekeeper hovered above as well, hissing irritation and embers.

"Did you happen to see how many things we were fighting out there? I counted three," she said over to Floyd, while it was quiet for a moment. Agro suddenly looked down beneath his feet, and scrambled backwards just as the ground exploded under him. He just barely managed to get out of the way and lash out with his arm, catching the monster in the side and sending it sprawling out on the ground.

Like most of the Holy Mechanism monsters, it was like nothing Steely had ever seen before. If she had to describe, she'd say it was a noctowl crossed with an ursaring. It had wicked front claws, and was covered in fur and feathers mixed, but had a feathery fan for a tail. Its head was fitted with a wicked beak and huge eyes, pointed crests of feathers above them. And it was big and bulky, though Steely saw that it had a decently sized pair of wings, with spikes along the leading edge.

"Wha?"

The chimera righted itself and screeched, punting Agro in the gut so hard that the metal warped and he was sent flying backwards again. It gave the shield, and the lot of them hiding behind it, a nasty look before burrowing back underground.

Merrick would get a nasty surprise when the creature he was pursuing suddenly turned on him, smashing the snake upwards and out of the ground, through the dirt. It wasn't enough to faint the snake, but boy he'd be feeling it tomorrow. The chimera poked its head up to see, and this one had a crest of horns atop its head, and a toothy mouth instead of a beak, with hooked spikes on the bottom jaw. It swiveled its head around to look at them, and hissed.

Basically the first one looks like this, but with wings and a tail and the other looks like the one in the mod forum. You can do the last one if you want!

When the poor snake was thrown through the ground, right back at them, Floyd knew then they needed to devise a tactic, and quick. The twisted two faced being that emerged from the ground fixed him with a hateful stare. Floyd couldn't help but give a feral hiss in it's direction. He couldn't fight these things while they were down below.

"Damn it to hell." He growled through clenched teeth. "New plan." He removed a pokeball from his belt and released an orange dragon nearly large enough to squeeze them out of the invisible bubble. "Hel. Drop the shield. I ain't hiding behind a fucking wall while these things beat the shit out of our guys."

You have got to be kidding me.

"Like hell." Floyd climbed onto Pyro's back and removed one more pokeball. Pookie appeared in a flash, a dainty puff of blonde hair and bright brown eyes. "Pook. Protect." He stuffed the little dog down the front of his jacket. "Helsing. Drop the shield on my mark. Then get your ass and Til'ks off the ground." The alien pulled a revive out of his pack and tossed it to the pyschic, then he turned toward Steely. "Gonna need you to do something. I've never known you not to carry something on you that can't produce an earthquake. I need you to unleash that shit on those chimera things. Get them out of the ground. I'm going be up there," He pointed up toward Gatekeeper. "Helping him."

He took a deep breath, saw the second chimera duck back under ground, and then counted. "Oot. Oon. Ool!" The shield fell and Pyro kicked off, wings beating the air and sending a gust of wind over the leaf strewn ground. He didn't see Helsing cram the pill down the monster's throat or lift them both into the air. He was gambling that Steely had something on her to produce the much needed earthquake.

"Get ready!" Floyd called to the dragons. "This is gonna be one hell of a game of Whack-a-mole!" Pyro's muzzle was already smoldering, readying a flamethrower.

Luckily for Steely, Floyd was a lot better at plans and that sort of thing then she was. She wasn't good at them at all. So at the General's direction, she nodded, as did Rapier.

"I can do that."

"Actually, I think I want Agro to do it. You just have to get out of the way."

"And how the fuck do you want me to do that?"

"Climb a tree? I can always withdraw you, otherwise."

When the shield dropped, Rapier bolted off for the closest hardwood tree, leaping at it and scaling the side by digging her claws in. Steely looked to Agro, "You heard him, Agro! Rock it!"

The aggron, raised his tail up over his head, and slammed it into the ground, creating the localized shockwave through the dirt and stone underfoot. The earth cracked and waved, shattering in places with crests of dirt shooting upwards like waves in a stormy sea. Steely was hovering above the surface, seemingly magically. It wasn't exactly magic, but some kind of bizarre form of science. Magnetic fields and everything.

The Gatekeeper bellowed when he saw three shapes being thrown from the earth, and dove towards one of them. Each head spewed a different elemental power out of their mouth for a tri attack, a combination of fire, ice, and lightning.

Three against two were not good odds. Three terrible blends of owl and bear cried out as their sanctuary shook and their tunnels collapsed in on them. Three furious beasts burst forth and set sights on the first things they saw, Pyro and Gatekeeper. The Hydra was the first the act, launching his triple play attack, swiftly followed by the grumpy Pyro's stream of flames. One Chimera plummeted to the ground. This was the one Agro had already roughed up. Add one swift ground shaking trauma to the equation and that Ice and Electricity didn't seem to agree with these half flying beasts and that meant one down two to go. It found a hole from which it had first arisen and crawled back into the darkness to hide. It was done for the day. Pyro struck the second beast, the one Floyd recognized as having popped its head out of the ground. The flames ignited its brown plumage and forced it to land, but otherwise did not significantly harm the monster.

The third chimera was free to sweep past its brothers and rocket through the air on silent wings. With both Gatekeeper and Pyro occupied, it was sure to hit one. *rolls dice, it hits Pyro* Pookie's shield of protection (which makes it sound a little epic and less like the sparkly girly thing that it was), lit up brightly as thing thing battered its wings against the spherical aura. The field failed as the chimera retreated to rejoin its fallen comrade and reform their attack. The Protect would not work twice in a row.

That had been a close one, but at least now they were making some progress with the flying forest moles. Floyd wondered where Helsing's foreseen attack would come into play. Right now he was too busy trying to rouse the bloodied giant from his sleep. He could just see Til'k starting to squirm and roll over in the air. Good. Now Helsing could concentrate on more pressing matters than baby sitting.

The two owl bear things did not retreat into ground this time, knowing now that at least one of the intruders had the power to oust them from their domain. The charred one roared at the his companion and it seemed to understand what was quickly related. They too were changing tactics. No more mister nice owl bear. If the trainers were going to use fancy tricks, so were they. Standing back to back, the burnt one grabbed a fallen tree as if it were a mere twig. In a flash there was a splintering crack and the tree had split into countless little shards of jagged wood. His brother then, flapped his wings and in a whirlwind picked up the projectiles, carrying them in a twister that whipped about the clearing. Each stake of wood was now a deadly projectile and the two monsters were hidden safely at the heart of the tornado.

Steely dropped back down to the ground just in time to hit the deck with her arms over her head, mostly so she didn't get rocketing splinters of wood in her eyes or face. She'd intentionally dropped down by Agro, mostly since he was made of metal plates of armor and wasn't bothered by wood. He hunkered down near her and closed his eyes; his eyes were still very squishy and he liked being able to see.

That left Rapier up in the hardwood tree and Gatekeeper in the air. The hydra tracked its prey with all three heads, hissing deep in his throat. The whirlwind of pine and pain made him hover out of the worst of the tempest, contemplating it quietly. He looked at the other dragon and roared briefly, to see if he had any ideas.

"Can any of you people dig? Dig under the fucking things and send them scattering!" Rapier screeched up at the two, hoping someone would hear and understand her. She sure as hell couldn't dig, and she didn't know that Steely didn't have any diggers.

Because it didn't look like the Wood Hell Tornado was going to stop anytime soon. The chimeras seemed to be having a good time, though, cackling and breaking the tree into more splinters to add to the whirlwind. They could keep this up aaaaall day.

Alas, none of Floyd's crew knew how dig such a hole either. Helsing was too busy throwing up screens of light to shield himself and the groggy geneticore from the worst of the damage. While Floyd, still perched on Pyro's back with Pookie, found himself in an awkward position.

Pyro was self combusting to incinerate the shards of wood before they could him. Problem being. Floyd and Pookie were not fire proof. With no other choice than to jump ship, Floyd bailed off the side of the angry dragon, little fluffy dog in hand. Pookie cushioned their landing with a quick whirlwind of her own.

However, they had not managed the quick escape unscathed. Smelling slightly of burned hair and bleeding from at least three points where the wooden stakes had pierced him, Floyd was the one hobbling hurriedly back behind Helsing's shield. Pookie had avoided damage thanks to her alien meat shield.

It was obvious they need to shut this operation down, and quickly. The chimera had an endless supply of ammo and they had jack. While watching the cinders whip away in the wind about his stupid dragon, he realized they did have a way to combat this disaster, at least on one level.

"Pyro! Fire Spin!" To which the effect became a fire storm when the trapping counter wind of fire ignited that wood which the other carried. This had the added effect of pissing off their oppressors who quickly realized that their wonderful plan was getting turned against them. In response they ceased feeding the twister wood. Meanwhile, the party on the ground was driven back, to avoid the incinerating aftermath of Pyro's attack.

Floyd then looked to Steely and grinned. "I think some Kentucky fried chicken/bear is in order. Do you think Gatekeeper could do the honors?" The dragons electricity laced tri attack would finish cooking the monsters inside of their hateful storm.

Steely and Agro looked up in time to see Pyro's flames bellowing from his mouth, and the girl scrambled away after Floyd so she didn't get set on fire. Agro was slower, and his armor got blackened in places and the smoke bothered his breathing. She withdrew the titan so he didn't have to stay out in it anymore, and picked a few splinters out of her arms and sides when she reached Floyd.

"Good thinking with the fire," she said, brushing soot from her arms. She was about to say more, but heard a cracking tree nearby, and jumped away when the tall tree Rapier had been in finally crashed over, weakened by the firestorm. The axe faced dragon pulled herself out of the wreckage, particularly nonchalant about the few gashes she'd gotten from who-knows-what.

"Nice lightshow."

Steely glanced at the skinny dragon, then back at Floyd, "Yeah, I think he can do that. Gatekeeper!"

The three headed dragon wheeled around in the air and dove, the triple-element attack bursting from his jaws as he descended upon them, even through the fire. Steely heard the chimera's screech, but she also heard a distinct THWACK and saw Gatekeeper thrown from the firestorm to crumple in a heap on the ground. She thought that he had still managed a hit, but they could only see for sure when the whirlwind died down...

Hunkering behind a shield dusted with ash, Floyd turned his head away from the firestorm, abruptly laced with lightning. He could hear nothing save for the roar of the wind, and then he couldn't even hear that. Slowly he dared to look up. A wreckage awaited him.

"Steely..." He whispered, awe cling to his voice.

Part of the clearing was still smoldering with scattered flames. Great chunks of broken trunks, and splintered branches were strewn about. An orange dragon crouched at the edge of the clearing, where the destruction ended. His wings shielding another, a three headed beast who delivered the final blow to end the fight.

At ground zero, the figures were slumped, back to back. And they still moved. Weak, trembling movements which meant for all their efforts, these bastards still lived.

Floyd looked at his human companion warily, and of all the retarded things he could possibly do, he drew his gun. He always felt much better with his gun. He looked back at the center of their current problem and started to creep forward, leaving the shield behind.

Floyd.

Floyd ignored the psychic and kept going. Step by furtive step, he kneeled by the two creatures. Their shuddering breathes came evenly as if from sleep. He flicked the safety off the .45 and raise it before hi-

The nearest monster rolled to its feet with a viscous screech, launching itself at the alien. General Bravado was on his arse flat on his back before he knew what hit him, razor sharp beak open and ready to snap his face off. And then something very curious happened. Something that Floyd couldn't see even though he and everyone else were watching. Both chimera were there one moment, one rising to its feet, and the other ready to strike, and then the next moment, a sound like the howling of wind began to roar. But then it was muted, as if out of time, as if it were coming from a tiny speaker somewhere. Not a leaf stirred. A violet point of light appeared behind both creatures. It grew larger and swirled like a black hole. The anomaly yawned behind them, and then it swallowed them whole.

Floyd was left on the ground, gaping in horror. The weight that had held him there was gone. "What the fuck was that?"

I tried to tell you. Helsing said softly. Future sight. He shrugged.

The alien rose to his feet, still clinging to his gun, and looked at the pit where the two had fallen. Though it was blacken and charred, something was still there.

"Ladies first." He stated, while still staring at the pit as if something might jump out at him.

Steely had also covered her eyes temporarily against the light, but Rapier kept watching behind the screen. She tapped Steely on the shoulder when they could see again, and the girl looked up. The human whistled, impressed.

"That's one way of doing it, guys," she said quietly.

Despite all the destruction, her eyes were drawn towards Pyro, where she saw the Gatekeeper crumpled behind him. She wanted to rush over and see if he was alright, but the movement of the monsters got her attention again. They were still alive?

Though, they were the Holy Mechanism monsters. They were known to be able to take a beating and survive, so it really didn't surprise her. Steely glanced back at Floyd and shrugged a little. When he drew his gun, she drew her own; a black and wood revolver that was smaller then Floyd's .45, but still a force to be reckoned with. She followed after.

Rapier heard Helsing, at least, and looked over at the psychic when the other two didn't appear to acknowledge him. "Do all the trainers in this region do stupid stuff like this?"

Steely stayed standing near them, but a little further away then Floyd was standing. Like Floyd, she pulled back the hammer on her own gun, and just as it clicked, the monster leapt at the alien.

Then, just as suddenly, they were gone.

"Pffffffffft, what."

"Your species is capable of some very interesting shit." Rapier scratched her nose, glancing at Helsing.

Steely offered her hand down to help Floyd up, and peered into the hole with him. Rapier ambled over at this point, and stood on Steely's other side. The pair of females looked at each other.

"Us first," she started down, followed by the dragon, gun still ready to fire.

The ground crunched underfoot, from smoldering bits of wood and flecks of glass that had formed in the firestorm. Everything was charred black, and Steely picked at the lump of burning hair in the middle. After a bit of digging, she stopped in surprise; under the burnt remains, there were two feathers with clumps of hair attached to the bottom of them. One tawny brown, the other ashy gray. She picked up the gray one for a second, only for it to disappear into motes of light that seemed to be absorbed into her skin. She winced and jerked away, a hand going to her left shoulder.

She carefully picked up the other one and went back to Floyd, presenting it to the alien with a grin and Rapier beaming behind her.

Helsing couldn't help laughing. No, he replied. I'm fairly certain that only Floyd does stupid stuff like this. However, when it came to the 'interesting shit' compliment, he merely shrugged. Some things he had no control over. He could not have told anyone that a vortex of doom would open up and swallow the chimera. Future sight was one of those unpredictable arts.

Floyd watched Steely pick up the first talisman. He held his breath, remembering Quinn and how his talisman had transformed into a ring. It had been the first time he had witnessed the HM take on a form other than a tattoo. It left him a little worried. He had a blank place left on his back and he was counting on this little critter to finish up the artwork. He didn't need a ring or any other trinket. The tattoos had become part of his identity, and he was very proud of them. This was the last piece to his mosaic of flesh.

With a trembling hand, he accepted the charred feather from the blonde. She'd touched her shoulder as if something had appeared there. This settled his mind that she too had received a tattoo, and that Quinn was just weird. The feather began to disintegrate in his hand, as if being incinerated by an invisible fire. The cinders took the air in a confined spiral and settled on his skin. There they were absorbed, and the tell-tell sting of a white-hot iron being toughed to his back told him that he had nothing to worry about. His ink was now complete.

Only he couldn't see it. He shrugged off his jacket and tore off his shirt. Then, like a proper dumb ass, turned three full circles trying to look over his shoulder at his back before huffing loudly at finding out he couldn't.

"Damnit, I need a mirror!" he whined. "Helsing! What does it look like?"

The psychic had lowered his shield and walked calmly over to the frustrated alien. Quit squirming, and I'll tell you.

He reluctantly complied, but jumped when Helsing began to trace the image with a claw. What? I didn't do anything.

"It's not that. Your hands are cold."

Helsing snorted. He couldn't see the image very well under white like. Like the other tattoos, it was created with something similar to black light reactive ink.

From what I can tell it looks like one of those chimera creatures skulking through the wood. It mirrors the scene of the yeti peering out of his ice cave.

"Oh!" exclaimed Floyd. "Well, that's not bad at all. I was afraid it'd be a picture of it pouncing on me, or something embarrassing like that."

We're not so lucky.

Content that their quest was over, Floyd was more than happy to drop the serious act and go back to being goofy. He grinned like the Cheshire cat, and flicked his tail back and forth like a happy puppy dog. "We'd best make sure everyone is ok before heading out. How's Gatekeeper?"

Pyro was still crouched by his newest companion's side, refusing to leave until his trainer had inspected him properly. Nothing said you were friends like beating up a monster together, after all. So to him, this meant they were friends. Pyro wasn't exactly a warm and inviting creature, and the scowl on his face really didn't give away anything about how he now thought of Gatekeeper, but this was as close as he ever came.

"Steely does some stupid shit too. Fighting monsters like this, jumping into stupidass caves, trying to make VOLCANIC ERUPTIONS for grumpyass sleeping legendaries. We should have just beat the shit out of that fucking thing..." the axe dragon dissolved into irritated hissing as she remembered.

Steely watched as the bit of chimera disappeared, and smiled with amusement when Floyd stripped and spun in circles. She saw vague flashes of all of his ink, and stepped forward to squint at the ones she could see when he stopped. Having fought most of these monsters as well, she recognized all of them after only a brief glance. The ink for his were different, though, but that didn't surprise her. Celeste's were solid black, and Cerby's were colorful like hers. She still found herself squinting, though after a second it was at something else...

"How's your heart doing?" she reached out and gently tapped the black box on the alien's chest; she remembered, what seemed like a long time ago, when she and Cerby had met the alien in Aridair. Xenon had hatched on Floyd's ship, Hurricane and Squishy had... gotten to know each other, and she and Floyd had played Halo for like half an hour. Damn seriously that was like years ago.

He reminded her of her dragon, and Steely looked alarmed when she remembered, and immediately bolted over. The dragon still hadn't moved, and she lifted his head to see his middle snout bleeding from being bashed in, though he was still breathing steadily out of his mouth and his other heads. She sighed, holding his head and stroking the bone white skin and fire-red points coming off of his head, "Oh Gatekeeper, you silly dog. You're not fireproof anymore, boy," she said as she pulled out his pink pokeball and withdrew him. If Pyro let her, she patted him on the side in thanks.

"He'll be fine after they treat him at the 'center. I think he just took a hard knock right to the face," she mimed getting socked in the snout. "Agro too. I think he was only able to take the hits because he's made of armor."

Rapier was looking at Floyd with wide, interested eyes, and looked at Steely when she came back over, "What's yours look like?"

"Huh? Oh." She too shrugged off her own coat and handed it to the dragon, revealing the web of overlapping tattoos on her arms; the white and black spiral on her right palm, the electric eel/angler fish/Neeruey thing coiling around her right arm, the Groudon pattern on her left arm (which she paused to look at, since a thin line in the center of the black lines was currently glowing faint blue) with a tribal blue/brown/gold lucaro climbing it, an electrical whirlpool on her right arm... she tried to pull back her sleeve, but it wouldn't reach where she was trying to look on her shoulder.

"Just take your shirt off."

Steely gave Rapier a look.

"What? He's an alien, dude, he's not going to care."

The human shook her head at the dragon, but reached down to pull up her shirt so the dragon could see and shut up already. Steely, like Floyd, would have to look at it herself when she got to a mirror. Now, Rapier could see the golden yellow and orange electric-wing on her right shoulder, and...

"Dude, it looks like Aloid."

"Really?" she tried to crane her neck around to see, but couldn't.

"Yeah. Swingin' his tail down like he's smashing something. Tribal-ish like your one of Hurricane." she stepped back so Floyd could see if he wanted to. It was a tyranitar in green and black tribal pattern, jump-swinging his tail downward and looking like he was smashing something. Steely pulled her shirt back down once the dragon had her fill of staring.

"Shall we go fetch your fossil, then, before more things come out of the forest to kick our ass?"

Volcanic eruptions... Helsing cocked a bushy white eyebrow at Rapier. Then, with a firm shake of his head, No, don't tell me. I'm better off not knowing. I think.

Floyd looked a little bit uncomfortable at having the black box pointed out. Helsing's life saving butchery was a sore point with him. The alien was extremely vain.

"It's uh...ok, I guess. Still ticking anyway." He laughed a little uneasily. The black box wasn't a cure, nor would it last forever. What he needed was a Scavian surgeon. His fainting spells were a constant embarrassment and not in the least becoming of a General. Being reminded of it, and how she knew brought back a flood of memories or how things had been once. He glanced at Til'k, remember Squishy, mostly.

Pyro gave the woman a pleased growl when she patted him. It was perhaps the nicest thing he'd ever said to anyone. Floyd stared after them, a little surprised. Maybe it was because Steely was a girl. The idea of Pyro being a gentleman was too much though. And then she was taking off her shirt.

'Shit-shit-shit-SHIT.' Floyd thought in a panic, and he looked away, finding a very interesting bush to study. He scratched the back of his bald head and tried to look uninterested. One thing humans had in common with Scavians was boobs. The naked Scavian chick on his right arm wasn't in the least bit shy about those attributes. Floyd appreciated a nice rack as much as the next straight fella, and he did not want to be cought accidentally catching a glimpse of a human's rack. That was just weird. He was strictly interested in his own species. Yes sir. Boobs or not. Although he found himself wondering...he gave himself a mental kick in the ass and cleared his throat loudly.

"Fossil! Oh right, I forgot all about it." Peeking back over his shoulder he saw there were zero boobs on the radar and his dignity was perfectly safe once more. "So uh...let's get out of here...just in case there's more of those things waiting to ambush us."

Pyro stomped over to Helsing and Til'k. The three pokemon led the way back through the woods in the direction of town.

Steely and Rapier exchanged a look of confusion at Floyd turning away; Steely hadn't seen the tattoo on the alien's arm. Rapier had just thought that it wouldn't matter. As Steely was pulling her shirt back on, Raiper made boob-bouncey movements with her claws, and Steely just laughed. For Floyd's sake, the human decided not to say anything.

Rapier waltzed ahead to walk with the other pokemon as Steely trotted next to Floyd, breathing deep the clean air once they were out of it. She felt like she still had ash and dirt in her nose, but it would go away eventually. One more HM done, thank goodness.

"So, what's next for you folks?" she said conversationally as they headed back towards the lab to fetch Floyd's revived fossil. It had to be done by now, right?

"I'm not sure." replied the alien. His smile faded as he blanked out, trying to think about his to-do list. "There's rumor of a hidden HM, but I don't know. If it's real I might try going for it one day. So long as the rumor is there, I can't say I'm done questing for the HM's. That's sort of a downer, but hey, what can I do?"

Up ahead, the wood thinned out and the outskirts of the town came into view again. It was hard to believe that only a few short hours ago they'd been walking through town looking for monsters. Just like that, it was over. Again. They'd survived one more challenge. Now all that remained was Lucy Howser.

Pokemon consenting to wait outside, Floyd opened the door for Steely and then followed. "I can't say it was much of a date, but it sure was blast." He flicked his tail playfully.

The little old lady behind the counter squinted at the pair of them. Covered in soot and ash, half charred and bleeding, they made quite a sight. "If that's what you call a date, I'm glad I turned you down!" she crowed.

"Awe, Lucy, don't go hurtin' my feelings like that. We had a bit a fun, didn't we, Steely?" He grinned, his toothy smile marred the dirt smeared on his face. "Besides, the best is yet to come. How's that fossil coming along?"

"Luckily for me, it's finished. You'd best be prepared for this one. He's going to be a handful."

"He? So what did it turn out to be?"

"An aerodactyl of course, what else could it be?" She sighed and handed him a pokeball across the counter. "By the way, the blasted thing destroyed a very expensive microscope while attempting to escape the regeneration chamber. YOU are responsible for it." She scowled.

"One of these days, Miss Lucy, you're going on a date with me and I'll show you a real good time. You'll forget all about that silly microscope."

"MRS. and over my dead body. Now off with you. The two of you smell like wood smoke and look like something the cat dragged in. Not good for business." She made a little shewing motion.

Floyd took the pokeball containing his newest pokemon and then offered his arm to Steely. "The lady doesn't want us here, shall we go?"

At first, Steely could only smile with amusement at the exchange, but at one point had to pipe in, "Well, we both had our shirts off at some point, that counts for something, right?"

She could have sworn she heard Rapier laugh outside, and therefore gave herself a mental pat on the back. Humor. Good. She thought she was funny, at least.

Steely looped her arm in Floyd's and beamed at him, "Handful or not, I'm sure Floyd here can handle it. I'm ready to go, though." Once outside, she started chuckling again, "You got a way with the ladies, Floyd. Or at least that lady. And hopefully your aerodactyl will be calm after it can look around a bit. Mine's pretty calm, really." She thought to Observaria, who liked perching on the house and the barn, and doing aerial tricks. She didn't seem inclined to wreck anything, at any rate, though like all fossils she had seemed confused at first. Though, Steely had gotten her from the legendary catching contest... Which was weird in that both she and Alex had wondered how they'd gotten so many rare pokemon.

Oh well.

"I should prolly go heal Gatekeeper and head home, though, so he can sulk under out front porch. I don't think he's ever been knocked out before."

Floyd was delighted. It had been awhile since he'd been able to relax enough to be himself. Most folks he encountered he immediately felt defensive around, but not this one. Steely was different. A sad thought passed over him, memories of friends parting, and friends stabbing him in the back - all of which brewed a great shit-pot full bitterness and hate. The pretty blonde gave him a glimmer of hope that not all humans were jerks. Maybe, just maybe he could let his hatred go and find a way to forgive the people who'd left him.

"I hope you're right." He wasn't talking about his aerodactyl either. "Thanks for going with me today. Maybe we can do it again sometime." He elbowed her suggestively and laughed. "Anyways, see you later."

Helsing, Pyro and Til'k watched the humans say their goodbyes, and while Til'k and Pyro didn't actually speak, Helsing bowed to Rapier and wiggled his mustache for her. A rare attempt not to be a jerk.

"Yeah, sure. Maybe we'll track down that hidden HM sometime, huh?" She was completely sincere with the offer. That eleventh poem that randomly appeared confused her, so it would be great to have help with it. And Floyd was fun to hang out with. She kind of wished that she saw more of the orange alien.

Rapier grinned toothily at the psychic, and bowed back at him until her face blades touched the ground only for a moment.

Steely tipped her hat at the alien as she got out her gigantic white dog. Becquerel the mightyena tilted his eyeless head at Floyd as Steely buried her hand in his thick fur.

"If we decide to go after that HM, we'll give you a call, alright?" she waved, and a second or two after Rapier put her claws on Steely's shoulder, all three of them blinked out of Deepwood.

+50 LP for getting an HM.

Oh and you get +6 for reviving the aero from the fossil. Hooray!
