Once more, the path was not clear. At least this time Albion didn't have to take a whetstone to his blade to re-sharpen it after all that brush-cutting. And hey! His berry pouch was now rather full, and it'd probably stay that way. He wished he had a greenhouse to grow some berries from his collected loot in, but still... that wasn't the point of this adventure, was it? His thoughts were overtaking the scenery, and that was unacceptable.

Albion and Alex were now venturing through the Lorenzian Grasslands. Their intent was to break out of the grass and to the comparably open plains of the Hillmoss Grasslands, where they could head north by skipping through past Rose Town, ending up in the Malral District, then heading right on through to Mayriver. It was a brilliant plan, or so Albion thought. The next leg of the journey was going to be his favourite. They just had to get out of this grass first.

The grass itself was about four feet tall-- uneven in some places-- meaning it came up to his chest, or thereabouts. His armour protected him from any itching that might have ensued, which was yet another good point, but the white skirt-like attachment would probably have grass stains all over it. Wild creatures were all about this area, meaning it wasn't going to be a fun experience for Albion if he wasn't careful.

Then again, he had Alex.

He was in front once more, this time carefully following his Pokétech map in order to find his way. It wasn't going to be fun if they got lost, after all. So he was trying to stick to the map he had as best he could.

"Hmm..." he pondered, until that momentary thought made him snap a twig - wild things were running in all directions around them, to and fro. He shook his head. Today wasn't going to be his day.

Today's route:

4 Foot Grass 2 -> Hilly Area 1 (Hillmoss Grasslands).

If we want some shenanigans, we can detour into the Gulley (sort of like big oasis in middle of grass), head back into 4FG2 and then to Hillmoss Grasslands. :3

She was once again behind him. It was probably better, in the long run, that she was. The short girl barely got her shoulders out of the grass, much less able to keep her nose out of the stuff. She sneezed and pushed the tall grassed out of her way as she walked. Not to mention the half a dozen times she'd fallen over simply because of the grasses.

The prospect things could jump out at her at any moment didn't seem to bother her all that much, in actuality. She was all caught up in the way the stalks moved in the wind, how they moved around her. More than once she'd found herself waundering far from Albion and had to jog through the grasses to catch up to him again.

Albion.

She turned her eyes to his back and frowned softly. There was something, under the surface, that brought her eyes to him when she wasn't thinking. She would watch him, just watch him. How he moved, how the wind messed with his hair, how completely pathetic he was with maps and moving around on foot. There was something else, something that made her insides all warm when she'd catch him looking at her too.

Thu-thump. Thu-thump.

Alex pressed a hand to her chest for a moment, rubbing her sternum with her knuckles. And then there was that. That odd pounding in her chest. She couldn't figure out what it was, but it bothered her to no end. It wasn't frequent, which was mostly what bothered her. What wasn't frequent would become frequent in any time at all.

She hoped it was nothing.

"Lost again, Knight-boy?" she said to the man in front of her, to distract her from her thoughts.

The sudden sound of Alex's voice piercing the skies behind him made Albion glance up from his map, turn around, and look at her; that ever-present soft smile, speaking only of calm and serenity, was plastered upon his face like it was never meant to leave it. Out here, in the open, Albion felt a lot better. It was much preferred to being caught in a jungle, but as a soldier at heart he was accustomed to distant places and strange terrains. Even if he wasn't the best at it.

"Not as much as last time," he told her. "I'm starting to think it's not me that's lost, but my Pokétech. I've been meaning to get it serviced, anyway."

The point was, at this point, Albion much didn't care. This journey was about getting there more than it was about the destination. The knight was enjoying spending his time in Alex's company. She was good to banter with, laugh with, most certainly not hard on the eyes, and all around a brilliant person to spend time with. That thought was enough to bring a soft red tint to his cheeks, which he worked hard to dispel. He could feel his ears prickling, too... this wasn't a good sign on his part. His self-control was so good normally.

Albion cast a hand around to the vast sea of tall grass. "I'm afraid Winston won't be much help here, this grass is far too tall for him. Once we reach the outskirts of Hillmoss, we'll make far better time. Until then, I say we ignore the map and try and navigate on our own. Who knows, something interesting might just happen. What say you, Alex?"

If she noticed the tinge to his cheeks, she didn't comment on it. She was dealing with the need to fight down the urge to tackle him right then and there and... do what exactly? Tackle him for the hell of it? Do other things that made her want to bite her bottom lip for thinking of them? Most likely the former, really, but the later sounded like a good idea too.

She let out a sound like a bell, laughing at his comment about his Poke'tech. She grinned at him as he continued to speak, an idea forming in her head. She showed teeth and sprinted forward, launching herself at him. Her aim, really was to get out of the grass and piggy back on his back.

What actually would most likely actually happen? Something entirely different and probably end up with both of them on the ground with her on his chest.

Hmm.

Part of her didn't think this was that bad of an idea really.

Oh well. She was already in the air and couldn't really stop her momentum.

Catch her if you can Albion?

And then she was launching herself through the air. Albion did not expect anything like this to be happening. At all. Ever. This was one of those 'maybe in my dreams...' kind of moments that his subconscious was roaring at him about. The chivalric part of Albion, however (read: most of him) demanded that he catch her before she flattened him.

One second to act.

Crack!

One moment later, Alex had been exactly right. She was on top of Albion, having tackled him to the ground, but he had managed to catch her. His arms were now just underneath hers, having caught her just under the arms, his hands wrapped around her back. Her hair was in his face, its tips brushing against skin warmed by the blush that crept across his face now. She was on top of him. She was on top of him.

If there was less metallic plate on his body, this would have very easily been the most sexual position that could be entertained in his mind without actually going there. This was...

Albion opened his mouth to speak, but no words came out. He didn't have anything to say about this. He just... couldn't. It wasn't paralysis by fear though, no. This was paralysis by interest. And a little bit of a lack of experience. Curious eyes looked up to hers, wondering what she was planning for him.

Cra-aaaaaaaap!

She felt herself get caught and the suddenly the ground was very close to her. As was the grass. As was Albion. She'd landed slightly sprawled on top of him and winced slightly, only at the fact that his plate armor was hard...

OhdearArecusdonotgodownthatrooooaaadddd....

Too late.

She was also ridiculously close to his face with her own, and watched him try to speak. Alex instinctively licked her lips, the things having gone dry somewhere between the fall and realizing how close she was. He was really rather nice to look at. His jaw was firm, but still every so slightly boyish. His face matured while still holding some kind of curiosity and naiveness in it.

His eyes seemed to be growing bigger, how, she wasn't sure.

Until her mouth met his, in a slow tentative kiss that for some reason still held heat to it.

What the... heck?

And then, for that moment, a moment he had not expected, her lips were pressed to his and the blush on his face burned so hotly he was so sure it would consume him... until his hands slid up her back, one to her shoulder blades, and the heat of the moment for both of them burned. His lips met hers in a kiss that at first was so... almost innocent, actually. Albion's inexperience showed through. He didn't really know what he was doing at that point. He wasn't some kind of expert on the situation; far from it.

But after a few moments of having his lips upon hers, one of his hands came up into her hair and the kiss deepened. Maybe for just a second. Maybe she'd pull away. But he didn't care, he'd do it for as long as she'd keep him. He was so sure of his feelings for her at that moment in time that he couldn't not try to show her. Perhaps not with words, but with actions - and that suited Albion right down to the ground. Talking could only go so far.

Was this Albion's form of romantic courage? Perhaps.

All he knew was, then and there, he was filled with a bliss he had never, ever experienced before.

He was kissing her back.

Part of her brain idly wondered if he'd ever been with a girl before. It was quickly shut up as something egged her on to not stop the kissing. Heat flooded her, from the top of her head to the tips of her toes. Something sang inside of her and her hands found his face. Fingertips gently tugged at his skin as she deepened the kiss further.

A stray thought brushed her mind, telling her to roll them over so she was on the ground instead. It was an odd feeling, and she couldn't quite tell where the thought had come from, just that she very much wanted him on top of her and pressing her into the grasses. So she tugged on his armor and rolled them over, a breathless little sound falling from her mouth at the motion.

Alex had no idea where this had all come from, but she wasn't going to just stop because of that. Oh no.

Unawares to the two kissy-kissy trainers, a pair of eyes watched from the grasses for a moment before vanishing.

There was a sudden moment of freefall as Alex rolled him over. Their kiss deepened. Their bodies were all but moving together at this point and Albion was feeling very, very strongly about the fact that she was now underneath him.

And then it sort of clicked, somewhere in his subconscious: he was very much on top of the girl he liked, kissing her deeper and deeper with every passing second at her urging, her hands on his face to hold him there. Well, The favour had to be returned somehow... and truth told, this was the clash of chivalry versus youth, honour versus desire. What was going to win?

For the moment? Youth and desire.

His hands travelled down her body, slowly caressing their way towards her hips, holding her to him. After all, his hands around her wasn't going to work now that she was beneath him. Did she enjoy that, for whatever reason? His weight pressed upon her as her lips did on his, eyes fluttering shut as the heat and passion of the moment became an all-consuming desire for her. It wasn't going to go all that far, but the fact of the matter was there was nowhere else he'd rather be. He knew... theoretically... how to do this, having had friends and the like, but this really was his first time doing it. Very, very experimentally, his tongue sought her lips, as if to ask her permission - still some of that nobility was showing.

No, he didn't know about the presence. No, he didn't care. All he cared about, all he wanted to know, was Alex.

Hands slipped back into his hair and around his neck, a soft sound leaving her mouth has his hand glided down her sides, inadvertently giving him the access he'd requested. His tentative asking for permission, his gentlenss, it was quite refreshing, if made her feel slightly impatient. The fire was starting to flare and it was only a matter of time before it became a raging inferno of heat. She idly wondered if he'd be able to bring it to that point.

This was not the first guy she'd been with like this. The first in quite a long time, for sure, but not the first. She knew how things reacted, little things that would fuel the fire ever so more. She tugged slightly on his hair, impatience tugging on the edges of her mind.

Thu-thump

Her breath caught for a moment as the pounding seemed to rocket through her whole being and order the fire hotter. The pounding shook her out of the moment, sudden clarity breaking through. It was enough for her to feel something brush against the back of her mind, much like Alice would do if she was talking to her.

...do more! More more more! whispered the voice, barely loud enough for her to register. She pulled her mouth away to breath and to try to tell Albion that this was not all her. There was definately a lot of her in this, no doubt about it, but there was something else outside them that was egging this on.

"Albion..." she managed to get out before the haze took her over again, this time with a harder vengenous.

She barely registered a rather high giggle some distance away from them and the rustle of the grass.

The tug on his hair, the parting of her lips - all of this served to fulfil his passions. Passions that had never in his life been stoked. Imagine, if you will, a fire that smoulders for a long time, building and building but never given the fuel to become a raging blaze. The desperation for it, building forever more... but never granted that sweet, blessed release. Alex, at that moment in time and unbeknownst to Albion that it was not entirely willing, was giving him that fuel.

The inner demon was consuming Albion's soul whole. He could not stop its onslaught.

Her impatience spurred him on. The sound of her voice, so ensconced in joyous bliss was it, was enough to drive him to the edge. Would he stumble over that precipice, or would he be able to retain that one sliver of control? He didn't know. He wasn't even thinking about it - at this point it was a purely subconscious reaction to what was happening around him. The feel of her flushed, warm skin upon what parts of him were bare were so enticing that they mesmerised every part of his being.

"Oh, Alex..." he managed to breathe into their kiss, hands now pulling at her hips. Pulling them up into his body. Was he...? He was going there. He was actually going there. Albion Marius, the chivalric knight and the paragon of Opaddeka's protection, of perfect manners and action, was now lying in the grass wrapped in the embrace of a young woman who could quite easily, were this another time and place, be the sole object of his affection. What he was doing was so very out of character.

For a reason: the unknown presence was after him, too. Much like Alex, there was most of him behind that kiss, but it was treating both of them as marionettes for its amusement. And unlike Alex, he had long forgotten the brush of a psychic against his mind, now understanding the spoken words of his allies - years had passed since Alistair had spoken directly into his mind. He didn't feel it.

It would have to be her that saved them.

But did Albion really want to be saved from the most brilliant and passionate moment in his entire life?

Thump-thump

He'd interpreted her voice as something other than it was. The thumping surged through her again and her eyes snapped open. Clarity sang in her mind and she felt that presence again. Someone was playing with them like dolls.

Arceus damn it all!

She shifted under him, bringing up a hand to cover his mouth. The other arm found her Pokeballs and jerked one off, throwing it into the grass.

"Korin find it! NOW!" she positively snarled from under the lust drunk knight. The area exploded in red light and the lion ran off into the grasses. Alex held her breath, keeping her hand firmly on Albion's mouth. The presence in her mind was gone, the thick haze becoming only a warm mist that was all her, she hoped.

There was a crash and a screech came out of the grasses to their left. Korin exploded out of them, a giant fuzzy bat locked in his jaws. Alex panted and glared at the bat, who tried to flap it's wings and get out of the mouth.

"Hey! Wait! Swooy! Come back with Swooy!" A distinct human voice broke the air and a boy of about seventeen stumbled out of the grasses. He looked at the two on the ground, even as Alex pulled herself out from under Albion, and blushed. Korin all but shoved the fuzzy object into the boy's arms and stalked over to his trainer, fur on edge.

That piece of crap trainer... Alex clenched her fists and resisted the urge to have Korin call thunder down on both of them. Her green eyes narrowed to slits.

"Do you know what the damn bat of yours was doing?!" she growled at him. The boy looked incredibly surprised as she recounted what happened.

"But why would..." he asked, very beet red. Alex didn't care. The damn bat was going to pay for not only spying on them, but edging it on in the first place. And she was going to not hesitate to tell Korin to attack.

If Albion didn't first.

He could feel her heartbeat against his chest, knowing that her passion burned as brightly as his. He knew that she was enjoying it, bringing them both to such a heightened sensation that he could no longer deny his feelings for her-

Until she stifled their kiss and held him at arm's length, and summoned out her Luxray. It was as if that moment was a bright spark to stop him, to make him stop and realise...

What have I done?

Albion slowly retreated from Alex's body, pushing himself up with both hands on the ground to lever himself away, slowly. He kneeled down on the ground, armour clanking as he did so, as two of his Poké Balls opened while the fracas began to rage - Alistair and Aerona both appeared of their own volition, seemingly responding to conditions raging around them. And with good reason, too.

"Albion, what... what happened?" Alistair asked, planting a hand on the knight's shoulder while Aerona studied the Swoobat that Korin had found, growling loudly.

"I... I... don't know what came over me, Alistair."

A few moments' silence, and then a frown on the part of the Gallade. "It's not what came over you, Albion - it's what invaded your mind. That Swoobat over there, the one belonging to that trainer?"

There was a trainer in the picture now, being very protective of his Swoobat. Albion didn't care. His ears were ringing, his face burning, as if trying to shut out the rest of the world out of pure shame for his actions. He had let go. He had allowed his emotions, his closely-guarded emotions, to release from their checks and run wild in a way that could have very easily jeopardised any potential relationship with Alex. He knew that he was looking for one, but it was not his way to rush. He liked spending time with her, and now he could barely even bring himself to look at her. It was far too strange to be doing so.

But Alistair proposed... what?

"That Swoobat was in your mind, making you do all of it."

There was a long moment of silence in Albion's world. A very long moment.

And then, slowly, Albion rose up, drew his sword, and advanced on the trainer. He pointed the tip of the two-handed sword right at the Swoobat, eyes burning full of his own emotion. He'd already lost control. Getting it back now was going to be impossible. "AERONA!"

It was a semi-calculated move. Aerona could drop a flying-type better than Alistair could. With fangs of ice did the Gyarados race forward, intending to bite the offending Swoobat out of the sky. But Albion? Albion advanced on the trainer, his sword held almost as if he was going to kill the guy. But no. He pointed the sword at the kid, rage blazing almost as much as the lust that had swept over him. But this was all his own.

"How dare you allow your Pokémon to invade other peoples' minds! How dare you have the indecency not to keep control of your own team! Your lack of ability just made me... made me..." He shook his head angrily. "There will be a battle, and you will lose. For what you have done..."

One hand dropped from the sword, fist clenched. "I will end you."

Never before in his entire life had Albion been so angry. Never before had he ever felt so violated by another. It was mental rape - if that Swoobat had not been in there, he could have stopped all of that, controlled himself. Maybe this would not be such a debacle. But that control was long gone, replaced by raw emotion. Albion knew only one thing now - there would be only repentance for this boy and his Swoobat, brought at swordpoint.

Poor kid. I don't think he was thinking of getting a sword drawn on him when he came to save the stupid bat. He gulped, ducking under the gigantic flying sea serpent's fangs. "But but... he was just supposed to be out watching for wilds... he wasn't... I'm... I'm sorry..." he whimpered pitifly. Swooy wormed out of his arms and faced the foe with a nose wiggle. The Swoobat seemed to talk to the boy and he sniffed a few times before stealing himself.

It was useless you stupid kid.

"Alright. We'll fight. Swooy, Calm Mind, then Psychic." His voice wavered slightly, but the bat began its attacks, clearing its mind first. It was on.

Alex blinked at Albion's rage, taken aback by it. She was in mild awe that that man could feel so many things all at once and even draw his sword in vengence at another. It made her think for a moment. What did that mean then? That the whole thing was just a psychic's foolery? She doubted it would have been able to create anything like that from nothing at all. Did that mean that Albion felt something for her then? What was it... and how much of it was there to begin with?

"Alistar! While the good knight destroys that poor boy... can I ask you something? Privately?" she asked the Gallade, her voice oddly level. To her, she didn't really care what Albion had done (she had liked what was going on, there was no question of that) but she wanted to know. She wanted to know just how much of that had been Albion, and how much had been the bat.

The Gallade nodded once, looking at Alex. Taking a few steps towards her side, Alistair folded his arms and shut his eyes. Not being part of the combat, it was far easier for him to meditate and ponder with psychic energy now.

Forgive the mental intrusion so soon after that... incident, but I believe this to be the best course of action. Too much vocalised now may just send Albion off the deep end. Right now he is in a very precarious-- and extremely dangerous-- place. I understand that you wish to ask a personal question. I will not simply pluck it from your mind, but all you need to do is think. Best not to speak.

The Gallade made a number of excellent points there. If Albion heard them talking about his emotions, who knew what'd happen? This would probably be best for all of them. Not to mention the fact that Alistair didn't want Alex to be uncomfortable while they spoke mentally. She'd suffered enough in the past few minutes... despite how pleasurable it may have been.

And Albion? It was not his way to kill in cold blood. And that was not what he was going to do. But to induce fear? That was something he could do. It would not be with words, but with actions; Aerona would perform every last one of them, without so much as a command given by Albion.

With a whirling dance through the air, the mighty Gyarados coiled her body before coming straight down on the head of the Swoobat, trying to, in a single overcharged attack, take it out with an Ice Fang... or at least weaken it so a second would finish it. After all, Ice weakness made this so much easier for her.

Albion's sword remained pointed at the kid, unwavering in its resolve. What was he thinking, aside from the anger sketched across his face? Dare anything disturb him?

She nodded and spoke within her own mind, taking mild satisfaction in the feel Alistair's mind on hers. It was familiar, as it felt like Alice's but far more vast and full of knowledge. She was going to reach into that vast wealth of knowledge and see if she couldn't get some answers. On a few things.

Of course. We don't want him actually causing bloodshed, now do we? I actually, have a few questions, of varying nature. If you would, answer them to the best of your ability. First, how much of that was him and how much was the bat? she told the Gallade, feeling her cheeks heat up slightly at the suggestion. Regardless, she had to know because Albion probably was never going to tell her. Or talk to her again.

Second... lately I've been having odd... 'thumpings' in my chest, and the tattoos on my back will throb when I wake from sleeping. I want to know if its something more than just my mind tricking me. She hadn't even told Albion about the recent occurances, much less thought them more than odd fluctuations of her heart. But ever since she'd had that dream... they'd been happening more and more frequently.

And it was starting to worry her that something was moving.

Something that shouldn't be.

I open my mind to you to search for it, if you wish. She closed her eyes, calming herself and blocking out as much of what was going on as possible. All to give the Gallade as much free space as possible.

The psychic attack hit the Gyarados but didn't slow her in the least. Her frozen jaws slammed down around the bat and decimated it in one supercharged attack. The broken bat fell to the ground and didn't move. It wasn't even fainted.

It was very very much dead.

Not that Albion would care in his state of mind. The boy's eyes widen at the display of power and his own raw emotion seaped over. If in a much more volatile way. He charged, fists raised, and made to punch Albion straight in the jaw.

"YOU BASTARD YOU KILLED SWOOY. YOU KILLED IT YOU ASSHOLE!"

The Gallade gave something of a mental chuckle, shaking his head. I should have expected that question. You wish the truth? I would say that... ninety-five percent of that was him, and only a small portion of it that bat. Much like yourself. Alistair had no reason to withhold the truth from her. She asked for it, and she received it - Alex would simply have to deal with the fact that Albion had feelings for her. Strong ones.

And as Alistair was learning, she had feelings for him.

Her other question mystified him, though. He thought long and hard, letting the psychic waves travel through her body and all of her psyche... and yet, what he found left him with more questions than answers. It was a strange sensation. This wasn't exactly normal, for a Psychic-type.

Hmm... I sense.... something stirring within you. Something strong, as if it is trying to wake. I feel as if it is projecting off your emotions, but I could not tell you anything otherwise. I cannot offer you more than that, I'm afraid.

And as Alistair was searching and explaining, Albion witnessed Aerona's complete annihilation of the Swoobat. The blood in Albion's face-- all that blood rushing around his body-- suddenly drained, leaving him ghost-white. His eyes widened, seeing the broken and mangled form that Aerona had left. His hands shook. Then his whole body. Enough so that he was distracted enough to take the fist to the face. His head twisted around, and it was enough to send him to his knees, unable to move. The sword went flying a short distance, but was still within arm's reach. Albion didn't seem to care any more.

Just staring into space.

This is something that has been coming for a long time, Alistair explained to Alex. All his life he has been toiling under the expectations of the Knights of Escennia. He has held himself to nothing but the most exacting of standards, and is not accustomed to failure. Lately, however, this has been hard. He had to face the destruction of his home in the war with Jgsei, something he could have prevented. And now his own discipline has slipped enough that his control over his emotions broke down completely, though that was not his fault. This is a decade-long reaction to that. He contained the first one. But this... this is far too much. He is so fond of you that he is punishing himself for potentially hurting you, and a potential relationship. But he will never, ever admit that... not yet. Not until he comes to terms with this.

The kid panted, surprised by the defeat of the knight. He took a few steps back, now sniffling and teary eyed, and took the bat in his arms and ran. All for good reason.

Alex looked at Albion's back as Alistar spoke to her and she shook slightly. He cared for her... and yet was so worried something would go wrong that he became nothing more than a husk? How could... how could Albion, knight and OME personnel, her Albion, become nothing but a husk at the slightest flick of failure?

Her face fell into one of mild pain. She couldn't just leave him there, she couldn't just--

Her chest hit his armor with a thud and she closed her arms around him, holding him tightly. "I'm alright, I'm alright, I swear Albion I'm alright, I'm alright..." she said softly into his ear. She just wanted him to be okay. She just wanted him to come back. Her fingers gripped his armor desperately as she continued to tell him she was alright, that it was alright.

It was all alright.

Alistair watched on, satisfied. He looked to Aerona, the Gyarados, who in her rage had slaughtered the fell psychic for her transgressions. A gentle hand ran across the Gyarados' scaly body, and in her sea of passion and anger was calmed, the fuel quelled. He would be for her what Alex was being for Albion, albeit in a far different way.

And Albion? The sudden feel of arms wrapped around him, the soft whispers of a voice he had come to adore. The only things that could have snapped him out of the reality he had carved for himself. A reality that had been shattered, and now was threatening to be rebuilt in the most gaudy, ugly way. Alex was the shining beacon from which the painting of life would blossom with beauty once more. His arms found their way around her body and his head fell upon her shoulders, eyes shutting. He sought solace in her embrace, knowing that she had accepted him. At least in some ways. She was okay with what happened. She had not been hurt.

It was all alright.

"I'm so sorry..." he whispered, voice hoarse. Barely a whisper floated through the air. "I need to be better. I shouldn't have slipped up like that."

He had not quite accepted his failing. He wouldn't, for a long time. There was one more thing weighing down on his soul, after all.

"I... I killed that boy's Swoobat..." came the murmur. "I... what kind of monster am I? What kind of General, what kind of knight? What... what am I doing? What have I become?"

She took his face between her hands and gently moved his face to look at her. Her eyes were kind, soft but expressive, oh so expressive. She smiled at him and chuckled softly. "You have nothing to apologize for in that respect, Albion. You can let go around me, it's alright," she said, a thumb stroking his cheekbone.

He was so fragile, like a little boy trying to be older than he was. He was easily hurt, easily had his world shattered around him. But he would grow, Alex was sure of that. Grow from this and become more than he was. Become stronger.

After all, she'd come back from the brink of death once, and she'd changed from that experiance.

She glanced at where the swoobat had been and gently shushed him with a finger. "You think from one slip up it makes you something you are not, Albion? That because, in your moment of lost control, you killed something, makes you any less than the man you still are?" She bonked him on the head gently, and for a moment, he was a small child sitting in her lap in her mind. "You might be a knight, you might be a General, but you are human, and humans make mistakes. In someways, you're a bit like a new trainer who's Pokemon faints five minutes into their journey. But you can grow from this, learn from it, just like new trainers do.

All is not lost, Albion. All is not lost.
"

She gently kissed his forehead, her heart singing with her feelings for him. Right now, right now he just needed someone to hold, and that was fine with her.

The warmth of her hand upon his cheek was something he enjoyed, nestling into her hand as her thumb brushed his face. This was an intimate moment. Yes, he enjoyed what had happened before on a basic, primal level. But this was sending his heart pounding-- he could swear it was thumping right up against his armour. This was such a moment that he couldn't have described with words. She was picking up the broken pieces of his psyche and putting them back together stronger and so much better. She truly was his saviour. The saviour of a man lost and confused, one who had not experienced the truth of life before. He had grown up far beyond his time, and it wasn't worth the heartache. She was making everything so much better for him.

He opened his mouth to speak, but she silenced him with but a finger. She reminded him of the things he was. She reminded him of the things he needed to be. She was the strength of his heart. The resolve he needed. At her words, he did nothing but nod - and at her kiss, he did nothing but blush and lower his eyes while a smile crept upon his lips.

"You're right... I just... I need to be an example. I need to be strong for the people I care about and the people who look up to me. I need to do the right thing by them. I let Escennia be destroyed... I have to make things right. But I need to be better to myself. I'll just make the people I care about worry, after all... I can't have that. And thank you. For being here."

What he needed now was the courage to be strong, for her sake. She was all he could think about. And that courage finally rose to the surface. Part of him said that this was not the time or place, but so much of his mind, body and soul said that this was right.

"I... I care about you so much, Alex. I just don't know what I'd do if..."

The words weren't forming in his mouth. He was all but unable to speak, trying to get his mouth and brain working together so he could actually say what he was feeling. He shook his head, looking up into her eyes. Those gorgeous, greeny-blue eyes. The next few words were spoken behind eyes that were saying just as much as hers. She would know the exact meaning of the last thing he uttered.

"...if you weren't with me."

Thump-thump...

Thump-thump...

THUMP-THUMP

Alex let out an unsteady breath, her heart beating just as unsteadily. His affection for her was completely genuine; she could see that in his eyes. The young woman kissed his forehead again, if to distract him from the thundering in her chest. It had to be tied so tightly to her emotions, her emotions of him, if it was reacting like this. Her back throbbed as well, and she winced visably. She hoped this went away soon...

She realized he was waiting for a reply. But just what was her reply? She cared for him, far deeper than she could admit to herself. She enjoyed his company and she felt relatively at peace around him (besides the thumping of her heart of course). He was kind to her, he enjoyed her presence, that much was apparent, and it was clear he cared for her far more than she did him. At least right now.

So what was Alex's reply then? She hesitated perhaps slightly too long, waiting for her heart to slow, as she thought. Green eyes looked down at him, a soft smile on her face.

"I will always be here, Albion. And you'd be lost in the middle of the jungle still if it weren't for me," she said to him with a soft chuckle. Probably not... the answer he was looking for, but it was the only answer she could give him right now. Because Alex didn't know what her feelings really were on the matter. She didn't want to spend time away from him... but what did that mean at all?

She lightly rubbed her sternum with her fingers, hoping her heart didn't do its thumping thing again.

Thump.

Thump.

...silence.

His heart stopped, almost. Or, at least, it felt like it did. The brush of Alex's lips against his forehead once more sent an electric shiver running down his spine, knowing that it was rocking him to his very core. And her words? Her words left him all but empty, so full of unknown meaning. What was she saying? Was she agreeing, or was she saying 'not now'? Albion couldn't tell. When faced with this sort of problem, when he was so completely and utterly unsure, all he could answer with... was silence, and a little smile at her quip. He didn't know what to say.

He looked to her, his azure gaze unsteady. He didn't know what to think any more. Albion had poured his heart and soul out to her, but had been left unsatisfied. Or at least left with more uncertainty than he wished he had in him. Perhaps... perhaps this wasn't the right time. Maybe he should have waited.

Maybe this was all better left unsaid.

He ran the back of his metallic hand across his eyes, as if to wipe away the stinging left in his eyes from the pain he had suffered, physical and mental. Slowly, he rose to his feet, struggling for a moment as he conjured back the strength of the soldier within. There was no more time for weakness. There was no more he could waste being a sorry lump.

"I suppose we should move on," he finally ventured, looking to Alistair, Aerona and then Alex.

Yup, there it was. Alex steeled herself for the let down she felt rolling off of him and simply swallowed it down. He'd understand some day, perhaps. Or maybe he never would. Maybe she'd never tell him her feelings on the matter. She couldn't if the thump-thump was connected to her emotions.

So she simply gave him a smile as he turned to look at her again. She could see the cold 'knight' status had come over him and, a part of her inwardly sighing. Then again, she should have expected it when she didn't say what he wanted to hear.

The young woman stood up, brushing the grass from her butt. Korin trotted to her side and she rubbed his ear.

Well now, just because he'd gone all straight faced and business like didn't mean she couldn't tease him in some little way. The young woman walked around him, towards the direction they'd been going in before the whole making out scene.

She glanced behind her, her long purple hair swishing around her for a moment. A large grin stretched across her face, eyes glowing with mirth.

"For someone who wears armor all day... you're a really good kisser," she said, showing teeth at the end of her statement.

And then she vanished into the tall grasses, a giggle left in her wake.

Alex as back up, and as she did so, Albion recalled all of his Pokémon, one by one, back into their Poké Balls. It wasn't the best of days for Albion, in one sense. But he could not get the thought of kissing her out of his mind, the way her lips had felt upon him, the warmth of her body and the very beating of their hearts together...

And then, as if his face wasn't red enough, she made that little pass at him and his blush deepened enough that the red was rather bright. Gods, she had her ways... He shook his head. He really did care about her.

And you blabbed it and made a fool of yourself. Good work, Albion.

"Wait for me!" came his response, running off into the grasses with her. Ahead, the open pastures of the Hillmoss Grasslands could be seen, something Albion was considerably looking forward to. After all, this place would be a great way to refresh and relax himself as they made their long journey up towards the Halcyon Forest.

A long day indeed...

Alex escaped the confines of the tall grasses and suddenly let out a breath of fresh air. Finally freedom from the grass! She spun a few times before coming to a stop. She returned Korin to his pokeball, and looked around. Was it really that late alraedy? When had the sun managed to bleed the sky with yellow and orange and purples?

She stood staring at the setting sun, wind kicking up around her and whipping her pony tail around her. A smile graced her mouth as she waited for Albion to catch up.

And just once as she blinked slowly, just once, her eyes shown the color of blue fire. They glowed and looked out on a world that hadn't seen them in neigh fifteen years.

And then it was gone.
