Coming from the Crystal Lake, there had been a fairly simple path winding through the forest. The climate was already changing, from the earlier frosty region to a forest devoid of ice and snow. It was still relatively chilly, but there was no longer steam coming out with every breath. It was quite amazing how significantly the climate could change with just a bit of a walk. Meteorologists probably messed up their heads trying to explain it.

The little Cubchoo was still following them, and still dribbling a little from his nose. It was cute, though, and Creedon found it rather endearing. He gave the bear a hug, picking him up and carrying him for a while. The Cubchoo was willing to take his hugs, unlike Piddles, who Creedon gave a rather deliberate sideglance.

The penguin rolled her eyes, but when the Cubchoo sneezed in her direction, something snapped. The Prinplup raised her fins angrily, shouting at the poor bear, who cowered and hid his head in his paws. He had no idea what was going on. Creedon gave the Cubchoo a pat, before trying to look stern and telling his Pokemon off. "Piddles! What are you doing? That's not nice! He can't help it if he sneezes, where are your manners today?" The boy frowned. This was not normal behaviour for the bird. She was a little curt, sometimes, but she never snapped like that. His words did not seem to placate her, and she kept raving at the bear cub, causing him to burrow deeper and deeper into the boy's arms, until the trainer had had enough.

"Fine! Be that way! Return!" Stowing the Pokeball away, Creedon turned to Kurt, huffing. "Can you believe her? Why is she being so weird?" The butler had some ideas, but simply shrugged. He was still forming hypotheses, and he disliked asserting things without some evidence. This Pokerus that the young master had inadvertently come in contact with was believed to cause some temperamental abnormalities in Pokemon. The penguin's behaviour would certainly suggest it. And the earlier encounter at the Ice Rock - that had also been a different Caius. Was this because of the virus? Or was it an evolutionary change? Evolution was also well-documented to bring about some personality changes in Pokemon...

With Piddles safely out of the way, the Cubchoo began to unravel himself again, and was soon trotting alongside Creedon happily, sticking his nose into every flowery shrub he saw. Stumbling along, the little bear poked about here and there, rather like Creedon had a habit of doing. Suddenly, he toppled over, and when Creedon bent down to assist, the boy gave a cry. "Look, Kurt! Footprints!" Without waiting for a reply, the boy and the bear rushed off the track, oblivious to the potential dangers of wandering off the main road. Kurt followed obediently, with nothing on his face to suggest annoyance, although the man must certainly have felt something akin to it.

The footprints continued for a long time, until they reached a small clearing, where the forest had been disturbed. Broken branches and fronds were lying all over the ground, while trampled leaves and flowers littered it. "What happened here?" the boy asked, to which Kurt could do nothing but give an educated guess. It was some sort of struggle, possibly a Pokemon battle.

"Hey! A box!" Creedon rushed forward. Lying on the ground, half-covered by leaves, was a bright, yellow cube. One surface was grey, and it had a power point. The boy shook it several times, although it did not rattle. He tried to pry it open, but that seemed impossible also. "Huh? What is this thing?"

Kurt examined the item carefully, turning it over slowly in his hands. "This is an Electirizer. They are an unusual item with which Electabuzz can evolve." Of course, Creedon had no idea what that was. "You will, eventually, be able to use this with the Elekid you adopted last time, master Creedon."

The boy's face broke into a grin. Cool! There were objects that made things evolve? That was amazing. He thought it was always a spontaneous process, or one that just happened with time. Like when he grew taller. Apparently not, though. He couldn't wait to make his Elekid play with the box so that it could turn into an Elegrown-up or something. Whoo!

The Electirizer seemed to belong to no-one, so it went into their supply bag. No-one suddenly jumped out of the bushes, claiming to be its owner, so it was finders-keepers. Creedon skipped along ahead, spirits lifted even higher now, whilst Cubchoo tried to follow suit, although getting a bit tangled with his footwork and only producing a small hop-step. Ahead of them, a huge tree loomed.

Prinplip's pokerus counter should higher than 2 by now. Every post in which she is RP'd outside of her pokeball allows the the virus to run its course.

At the ancient oak ,you hear voices. You may choose to sneak up on them and watch if you wish, or encounter them.

They're druids. Five of them. They each have a plant type pokemon with them and would not take kindly to having their tree worshiping interrupted. They walking towards the shrine grounds where you may follow, seen or unseen.

There is also a young girl with them. Druids are known for their human sacrifices. I'm not saying you have to write about this, make of the info what you wish.

Also, should the cubchoo join your party, it will now join freely with 3 :happiness.

(0.5 :gexp2 . Sorry, forgot to bump Prinplup's counter up one. Dude... this is going to be one incredibly long post... Summary at end if you get tired of it)

It was a big tree.

A really big tree.

A really big tree.

A really, really, really, REALLY big tree.

Creedon stood at the foot of the forest giant, staring upwards, blankly, mouth hanging open. He had never seen such a ridiculously huge tree before in his life, and certainly didn't except to ever again. It was a monster of a tree, and as the boy stared upwards, he realised that it was probably about a bajillion metres tall, give or take a few million. Of course, that meant that he had but one ambition: "Let's climb it, Kurt!"

He had climbed trees before. He was a pretty good treeclimber - some of the other kids he'd met could climb, but he had always been the fastest climber. As a smaller child, he could shimmy his way up a tree with remarkable speed; he'd also gotten a lot of practice in his younger days when he was trying to escape from Kurt. Hiding up a tree had always seemed a good option, until he realised that Kurt had an uncanny ability to know exactly which tree he was hiding in, and would wait resolutely at its foot until Creedon became too hungry to hide out any more. It had taken years before Creedon had learnt to not bother, so that had resulted in some pretty mad treeclimbing skills.

Kurt raised an eyebrow, silently doubting the intellectual integrity of Creedon's suggestion. However, there seemed to be no immediate danger in humouring the young master. As a rule, Kurt let Creedon do as he wished, as long as it was not overtly dangerous and did not display poor manners to others. Taking the butler's silence as a boisterous approval, Creedon jumped straight onto the tree. He had only shuffled up about a metre or so when he let out a huge sigh and dropped off, to be caught by Kurt, who was, as always, ready and waiting. It was no surprise to the butler; the tree was far too large, and its circumference far too big, for the boy to get an effective hold. Rather than enter a tiring, verbal argument with the boy, he'd elected to let nature do the dissuasion.

"Poo. That tree is lame and unclimbable." The boy pouted as he wriggled out of Kurt's arms. He decided, instead, to go around the tree, hoping to find a secret ladder of some sort that he could use to climb up. After all, he was an expert at finding secret things. He hadn't gone very far, however, when he heard voices, and turned to Kurt, cautioning the man to be quiet with a simple finger to his lips.

This was even better than climbing the ginormous tree. It was time for Secret Agent Evans to do some work! Instantly, the boy leapt into his international spy persona, shuffling along close to the ground as he neared the voices, whilst Kurt followed, not quite as discreetly. Peeking through a gap in some bushes, the boy saw a ring of funny, cloaked people. They were all wearing these green, hooded cloaks. It did not take the boy's brilliant mind to figure them out - clearly they were playing Robin Hood. Or was it Red Riding Hood? Maybe they had gotten it mixed up. All but one of the Green Riding Robin Hoods had their faces covered, and the one who didn't was leading a young girl away. Creedon frowned, these Robin Hoods weren't very good. It looked like they were attacking a villager! They were supposed to help the villagers. They sure got a lot of their plots mixed up!

Creedon gave Kurt a Look, which was supposed to tell the butler that they were to follow secretly and to maintain their stealth profile, but in reality, it just looked like the face he made when he wanted to pee. Kurt didn't understand entirely, but was curious to see what these hooded men were doing, regardless of his young charge's intentions. There was something suspicious about it, no matter how one regarded it.

They followed the odd procession of green for some distance, until they came to a shrine of some sort. It was only when the Hoods started to build a fire that Creedon whispered, in a low voice, to Kurt, "Looks like a barbecue. Do you think we can get something to eat here?" Ignoring the boy's outrageous conclusion, Kurt's brow furrowed slightly. This was looking more and more like some twisted cultish activity. Ought Master Creedon be involved in this? Perhaps it would be prudent to pull out now, before they got too involved. There was perhaps a twang of guilt within the steward for abandoning this girl, but his loyalty and his ultimate priority was the young master; he was not charged with the care of others.

However, before he could make his decision and pull the boy away, the hooded men had put the girl at the top of the bundle of sticks they were about to light, and Creedon finally grasped the situation. "Hey! You can't do that!" Rolling his eyes, Kurt was forced to follow the boy as Creedon stumbled out into the clearing, pointing accusingly at the men. "You're not allowed to cook girls in a barbecue!"

"Master Creedon, I do not think that this is a barbecue. Rather, it seems more to be a ritual sacrifice." Seeing that his comment did not help the boy's understanding, Kurt simplified his language. "They want to kill her for their god."

A loud gasp escaped from the boy's lips. "WHAT!? YOU CAN'T DO THAT! THAT'S SO NOT FAIR!" Running forward a few steps, the boy tried to look intimidating, standing up as tall as he could (and on his tip-toes) and put one hand on his hip. "I'm not going to let you do that. I'm going to stop you evil Green Riding Robin Hoods!"

The druids murmured, the four hooded ones gliding out so that they stood between the leader and the invaders. "You shall not interfere..." they muttered in perfect, eerie unison. In one motion, four Pokeballs were released, and an assortment of plant Pokemon appeared, whilst the leader looked on, smirking.

"Good luck trying to defeat them. We're the most powerful tree worshippers in the world, and nothing you do's going to stop us from sacrificing to the great Ent of the Sky!"

"Come on, Kurt! We can beat these weird people!" For once, the boy didn't seem to mind enlisting the help of Kurt's Pokemon. "Piddles, Crackly! I choose you!" Caius also joined the two, creating a three on four situation. Creedon looked at the assorted plants he was dealing with, and pointed at one at random, the funny blue thing that looked like a giant heap of noodles. "Go, Piddles! Ice-Cream!" With a scarily blood-curdling scream, the penguin powered up the attack. It was the Tangela who attacked first, however, suddenly extending its vines so that they whipped the water Pokemon hard. Piddles persevered, however, and shot the Ice Beam straight down the middle of the two vines that were gripping her to send a spray of ice washing over her chosen opponent.

"Caius. Heat Wave." The bat squeaked as he flew forward, suddenly looping upwards and releasing his attack as he did so. The assembled Pokemon scuttled out of the way, but one was not fast enough, an unfortunate Pokemon bearing two mushrooms on its back. The Paras was incinerated in the flames, and with a rather bloodthirsty smile, Caius was able to take pride in the fact that he had claimed the first casualty of this war.

The Hoods murmured amongst themselves again, with one of them suddenly blurting out, in the first individual statement yet, "Lombre, Rain Dance!" At once, the sky darkened, and rain began to fall. Kurt frowned. They were determined to make it difficult for Caius, it seemed. If the battle was to be prolonged, then the bat would need some healing. "Caius." He gestured toward the bat, and when he was close enough, applied a Potion. Caius was still significantly fatigued from his previous battle, but with the Potion, he ought to make it through.

Creedon was astonished when it began to rain. Pokemon could make it rain? Now that was pretty cool. He wished he could do a rain dance too. He'd tried it before, but it hadn't worked. It never worked. Maybe he had to ask the funny lilypad Pokemon to teach him the steps...

"Lombre, go, take out that foul insect." Again, individual speech was demonstrated. Even beneath the cloaked face, there was no mistaking the twisted fury in the man's voice. Insects were the bane of beautiful plants and grand trees. Nasty little bugs that burrowed their way through majestic wood and ate their way through lush leaves. They could never be forgiven for the crimes they committed against the Great Ent of the Sky.

The Lombre sauntered up to Crackly, discreetly, surprising him with a sudden punch. The Nincada snapped to attention, buzzing angrily, determined not to get taken in again, now that it had seem that first attack. Brandishing his forelegs menacingly, the bug struck back by biting, sucking the energy from the lilypad. An exchange of attacks then began. Lombre tried to scratch at the bug, attempting to pry the nasty pest off, but the tenacious insect held on, continuing to drain the sap from the delicious plant. It also attempted to draw on the power of the forest, creating a huge seed which was dumped heavily onto the Nincada, exploding upon impact. However, that, too, did not phase the bug, who remained clamped on, sucking away, until finally, the Lombre gave out, and slumped to the ground, having been completely drained by the ravenous insect.

Caius had also found himself locked in another battle. Already, the two combatants were on their last stroke. Even with his fire attack shut down by the heavy rain, Caius had Air Slash to his advantage. However, the Nuzleaf he was facing also carried a powerful weapon of its own: Extrasensory. The Psychic attack had taken the Poison Pokemon by surprise, and now, the two of them were staring each other down, each only just hanging onto consciousness, with only enough energy for one final assault. The wind around them swirled, as each prepared their own air-based attack. Kurt had another Potion in his hand. He had offered to use it, but Caius had refused his help. Perhaps this was another side effect of the virus he was afflicted with - an impairment of rational thought.

Amidst the churning air, a single leaf was fluttering down. Somehow, it managed to navigate the currents and windstreams, so that it landed gently on the ground, as though there were no disturbances around, and it was at that instant that the two Pokemon launched their attacks. Each fired a pair of sharpened sickles of wind. Two collided in the middle, creating an opening in the surrounding turbulence for the remaining attack to get through, and it was simultaneously that both Nuzleaf and Zubat were hit with the other's attack, and felled.

That was three of the Hoods' Pokemon down, and one left. Piddles' battle was also drawing to a close. Their battle had been a simple exchange of the same attacks, and despite the repeated whipping at the hands of the blue mass of vines, the Prinplup managed to freeze the Tangela soild, defeating it, while only just hanging onto her own consciousness. This had not been an easy battle, and it was with a sinking feeling, as the four Hoods shuffled obediently aside, that Creedon realised that there was still one more.

"So, it seems you were able to defeat my brothers. Nevertheless, your Pokemon have been rendered sufficiently weak now, and I will simply remove you. The Great Ent of the Sky does not wish for his feeding time to be disturbed." The girl on the woodpile, seeing her would-be saviours in such a bad situation, began to struggle. "See to our sacrifice. She cannot disturb the Bed of Sanctity on which she will be presented to the Ent." The four hooded men glided to the woodpile, two restraining the girl whilst the other two set about resetting the sticks, so that the perfection of the Bed of Sanctity was preserved.

"Hey! Leave her alone!" Creedon ran forward, but a large, moving tree suddenly blocked his way. "WHAT?!" the boy yelled out, as three coconuts suddenly peered down at him.

"You shall not pass me. My Exeggutor is one of the Great Ent's personal attendants, and has been bestowed with incredible power on high. The wisdom of his three selves is not one that you will be able to fathom. Now, disappear or feel his judgement."

Creedon had no idea what the leader of the Green Riding Robin Hoods was babbling about, but knew that he had to get past this weird tree thing if he was going to save that poor girl. Piddles and Crackly were out of commission, and so was Caius, so that meant he only had a few options left. And of those, Bzzzt was definitely the strongest. This tree thing looked powerful, so he knew he only had one choice.

With a flash of light, the metallic crab materialised, and twisted its claws around, stretching. "An interesting choice. But the Ent's acolyte will not be bested by a creature so representative of the foulness of technology and industry." With a grand gesture, the leader directed his Exeggutor. "Wood Hammer." Almost immediately, a giant, very solid-looking mallet materialised, slamming down on the Metang mercilessly. Creedon was shocked, but gave a whoop when the crab emerged with a few scratches.

"Go, hit it back with something just as big!" As it happened, the Metang was quite capable of such a feat, and, in a similar fashion, a small meteorite suddenly crashed down on the tree-like Pokemon.

Bzzzt was buzzing, calculating the trajectory of the battle. Having witnessed the powerful attack of the opponent, the best course of action, it decided, was to fortify its own defences. With a gleam, the crab thickened its shell, but unfortunately, its calculations were somewhat off, as the Green Hoods' leader smirked and shouted a different command. "Now, Leaf Storm!" Both Kurt and Bzzzt cursed inwardly, though no expression showed on their faces. The Exeggutor had such powerful attacks on both ends of the attack spectrum? Both attacks had their drawbacks, but nevertheless, they were not things that the Metang could take continuously for too long. Bzzzt was forced to rely on the same strategy, and another Meteor Mash later, the Exeggutor was starting to look weary.

The leader was also beginning to look a little apprehensive. The Metang was faring far better than he had expected. "Hypnosis." A sleeping opponent would be much easier to deal with. The Exeggutor's eyes glowed, but the Metang, having predicted the move in its calculations, managed to avoid the hypnotic stare, retaliating with another crashing meteor.

Understandably annoyed at the failure of his strategy, the leader forwent it for an all out brutish assault. Wood Hammer came again, putting a further chink in the Metang's armour, but the Pokemon held on strong. With one final Meteor Mash, accompanied by Creedon's wild cheering, it knocked the Ent's acolyte out, allowing Creedon to march up to the cloaked leader and jab him firmly in the ribs. "Hah! I won!" Then, without waiting for a retort, he ran over to where the girl was, purposely kicking as many of the sticks out of position as he could, much to the dismay of the Hoods, who cried out woefully. "Are you alright?" True to his style, he did not wait for an answer as he untied her, then dragged her down from the ruined Bed of Sanctity. "Come on Kurt, let's get out of here!" The butler recalled all of the young master's Pokemon (he had left the Pokeballs on the ground) and followed after the excited boy, leaving the defeated druids to wallow in self-loathin and despair.

They had run for a few minutes before Creedon stopped, panting, and finally decided to ask. "So, what was happening back there?"

All participating pokemon receive 1 EXP prior to the pokerus multiplier.

Your trip into town is uneventful. However, the girl you just rescued apparently did not want to be rescued. She's a little confused.

You reach Deepwood.

Having become thoroughly bored of the sleepy town of Deepwood, Creedon was more than ready to set off on their journey once more. When they had visited the Berry King, a thought had occurred to him. What if he could plant his berries and grow even more? He'd been doing a bit of his own research, and there were some of the berries that he had, which made Pokemon happier, and he wanted as many of those as he could get his hands on. How awesome would it be to continuously feed those berries to his Pokemon? But first, he needed to find some way of growing them. He had taken up the topic with Kurt, and had learnt about the existence of the odd, portable pot technology that the Grower's Association had developed, and with a satisfied nod, had decided that that was to be his next destination. He was going to go buy some pots and start gardening!

Of course, Kurt knew that he would be the one doing most of the work, but it would be a helpful exercise for the boy to develop his sense of responsibility, even if such a hope was a little idealistic.

The closest Grower's Association was in Radloff, a fair way away, and the easiest path there would undoubtedly be the Diglett Tunnel. Consulting his sources, Kurt had found that another entrance to the tunnel lay just beyond Deepwood Town, and so, it was for that entrance they were headed.

Creedon was making his way around the large pond, keeping his eyes peeled for an entrance to a tunnel. He had no idea where it was, but he was sure that he could find it. He was great at finding things, after all.

The pond was absolutely crystal-clear. Deepwood, the environmentalist capital of Opaddeka, kept it in tip-top shape. Free of any pollutants, hell, it was probably safe to drink if you wanted to risk it. Magikarp and Basculin circled aimlessly at the bottom of the pond. It was very pretty and a triumph of green technology, but you doubted it held the entrance you sought.

So, you explored the immediate area around the pond. You knew it had to be here, but none of the moist soil and fly-laden grasses held no secrets.

About to give up, you looked back to the pond. Could it be? At the very center, bubbles slowly formed, floated to the top, and popped on the surface. The Magikarp and Basculin nibbled at the soil at that spot. Did the pond hold you entrance?

Spotted a possible entrance at the bottom of the pond.

Where was the entrance to the tunnel? Creedon couldn't find it, and neither could Kurt. (As far as Creedon could remember, it was the first time that Kurt had lost something) However, the butler soon drew the boy's attention to the rising bubbles in the centre of the lake. Was the entrance they sought possibly inside the lake itself? That raised all sorts of questions - how did they get in? How did they open the entrance without flooding the tunnel with the pondwater? Would they commit some sort of crime against the environment by opening the entrance and draining the lake, if indeed that's what the pile of mud in the middle was?

"Perhaps we should investigate that," the butler explained, placing a very firm hand on Creedon's shoulder as the boy was about to dive, fully-clothed, into the pond. "Please remember, Master Creedon, that you have Pokemon in your possession, one of whom will be able to examine that patch of mud far better than you can." It took a few seconds for Creedon to figure out what his lame old butler was talking about, but he eventually got there, and pulled out Piddles' Pokeball triumphantly.

"Aha! Piddles! You can dive in there and see what's up with that bubbling mudpile!" The Prinplup stared into the pond briefly, before diving in with perfect form, arriving at the bottom of the pond in no time at all. Carefully, she waved the gathering fish away, not rough in her movements. She just wanted to be able to check the bubbling out properly, without all those fish getting in the way.

Landing firmly on the lake bed, Piddles tried to dig in a bit with her flippers. If something was bubbling underneath, that probably meant that it was filled with air, right? So if she dug around enough, it ought to open a hole of some sort, and she'd find the source of the bubbling.

And right you were. As Piddles poked and prodded at the delicate dirt, more and more of the fragile layer of soil faded away. There was no more slight bubbling, instead, gulps of air were squelching up and shooting to the surface.

The bottom of the pond functioned sort of like a sinkhole, and now having disturbed the bottom layer, the whole pond was ready to collapse into whatever was underneath. The question posed now was whether it was worth draining so many Pokemon's habitat and livelihood for your journey?

There were lots of bubbles. Big bubbles that lurched out and caused miniature explosions at the water's surface. Creedon hopped from one foot to the other. "Awesome! It's going to open!"

Kurt was concerned, however. What was going to happen when that hole opened up? The pond was not huge but if it were to be emptied, not only would it bathe the tunnels, but it would also leave a number of the aquatic Pokemon stranded. He called for the penguin to stop her digging, but she did not seem to listen. Apparently she was still not too fond of him.

Something else had to be done, then. He had a rather outlandish idea, but it could possibly work. Without any warning, he brushed Creedon's jacket aside and took one of the Pokeballs attached to the boy's belt, ignoring Creedon's indignant 'Hey!'.

"Metang. Your services are required." The chosen Pokemon looked up at the butler, establishing a telepathic link between the two of them. I need you to produce a meteor, circular in shape, and place it around the hole which Prinplup is about to dislodge. Hopefully it will allow a portion of the pond to remain when it drains. The Metang whirred; this was no easy task. It had never attempted to create specifically shaped meteors when it attacked, but with the proper processing, it seemed possible.

The Metang concentrated, using all of its mindpower to formulate the unique meteorite, which began to form above its head. Psychic forces barraged it, shaping it into a crude ring of rock, about two foot tall, which descended into the pond. The barrier landed at the bottom, just as Piddles finished her digging, and released the plug at the bottom. What was going to happen now?

It was an interesting plan, but perhaps lacked a little polish in its execution. The large ring of rock dropped quickly to the bottom of the pond, just as Piddles finished it off with a massive open-handed slap. The last of the soft soil fell away, and the pond water rushed in to fill the tunnels.

A few unfortunate Magikarp were caught up in the sudden vortex and swept in the tunnel, but most everything else was safe and sound, if a little cramped, in what was left of the pond. However, there wasn't a better place to drastically alter the terrain that the outskirts of Deepwood Town. Within a week an environmental organization would send out some contractors to more professionally open up the tunnel, as well as nurse the pond back to its former glory in a few rainfalls.

But, there was your entrance. +two neutral fame

Feel free to continue in the tunnels.
