6 Foot Grass 2 -> 4 Foot Grass 2 -> Lorenzo (Lorenzo)

Fudd mod prompt

Lonile

0.4 :gexp | 3 trust

ON TO THE BREAKDOWN
:lvl 9
:sentret :fl
:hp 2/18
:anger 3
-2x :pokeball
Squall
:tropius
:hp 31/40
3x :oran

The Tropius isn't too badly damaged by the fight and you get away with some nifty blue healing things. Not quite as good as potions but your pokemon can heal themselves. Your Sentret isn't too happy with you but I'm sure she'll come around. And... you make it to 6 Foot Grass 2. You can make your next post there.

Now then, you run into a man with a guitar and a rifle. He's willing to travel with you for a ways, battle you, and/or ignore you completely. For reference he has the following pokemon:

Guitar Dude
:treecko :shieldon

He also has a few pokeballs on him and will probably try to catch stuff he finds. On that note, if you're so interested there is a wild :oddish somewhere to the south. It's on the edge of a small creek and mostly buried. You can catch it, befriend it, etc. at your choice.

Have at!

0.4 :gexp

Finally, the grass began looking taller, a sure sign that they were making some serious progress. Granted, it was getting darker and darker, and soon enough night was upon them. It would probably be a good idea to make camp, although Prometheus was still in a bad way, and he didn't even want to think about that Sentret. Maybe catching it hadn't been the best idea - taking it from its home for selfish reasons just made him feel like a bad person.

Was this what being a trainer entailed? Was it really worth it?

Glancing over to Squall, it become painfully clear that yes, it was worth it. Whatever else had gone wrong in the Tropius' life, he at least seemed content right now. If he could somehow make him even more than content, that would be enough for him.

Philosophical thoughts aside, it was time to stop and set up for the night. He didn't have so much as a sleeping bag with him, so that meant he'd probably be stuck leaning against the Tropius when he slept. If Squall was okay with that, of course. It all depended on what he felt comfortable with.

Prometheus lit up a small fire and all of a sudden Owen remembered the three berries he had gathered from that bush. That meant that he could mend the little echidna's wounds. Perfect! Pulling the Orans from his bag, he handed one to Prometheus, decided that Squall looked like he was still in prime shape, and then hesitated as he brushed his fingers over the Sentret's ball.

She deserved a chance to sleep outside, too, if she wanted. Within seconds, she was sitting there in front of him.

"Look, I'm sorry for catching you. I didn't really think about anything other than how strong you looked... I know this won't do anything to warrant forgiveness, but I was wondering if you might like one of the Orans from that bush... you got kinda beaten up because of me..."

Okay, that just sounded dumb, even to him. Regardless, she took the offered berry and turned to face away from him and towards the fire. Fine. Maybe she'd wind up being more friendly sooner or later. If not, he could always just let her go.

After posing the question to Squall, the Tropius nodded his consent and laid down on the ground. Owen rested against his back, sighing contentedly. The first day of his journey was done. He wasn't entirely certain where he was going, but away from home seemed like a good idea.

- - -

The sun was fairly close to the horizon still when Owen awoke, disturbed by Squall adjusting himself slightly. "Oh, sorry. I'm up now." Standing up and groaning as he stretched, he allowed the Tropius to rise as well. Only then did he notice that at some time in the night, a wandering vagrant with a guitar and what most definitely looked like a gun had decided to crash at their campsite.

"Sup, bro? Just chillin' by your fireside, 'cause the life of a drifter is a hard life to live."

That made absolutely no sense at all. "Look, could you leave? You're creeping me out a little," Owen confessed, a bit weirded out by this stranger.

The man seemed to ponder this, then shook his head. "Only if you can beat me in a battle." While it seemed pretty straightforward, he pulled out two pokeballs and let loose both a Shieldon and a Treecko. Owen didn't recognize the first one, but the Grass type had been one of the starter choices from the lab, if he recalled correctly.

Squall took a step forwards and Prometheus bounded up behind him, ready to go. Scything blades of wind slashed through the air towards the leafy gecko and an unending stream of minute fireballs pursued the living fossil. Before either of them could even do anything, they were both unconscious. Huh. That was what training did for you, right?

"Okay, bro, like I said, I'm out. Peace, man." The guy waved and recalled his Pokemon, strolling casually off into the distance. That had been... really odd.

"That was... really odd."

+Some experience for Squall and Prometheus?
-Used two of mah Orans.
+Pro and Raniya (the Sentret) both gained ten health.

Nurr. .3 :gexp2 and a 3 on the trust. Kinda fought with that one a little bit... on one hand you didn't gain anything but EXP, but the battle was way too easy. Battles aren't over after one attack, especially at lower levels/unevolved pokemon unless there's a 4x weakness involved. So yeah the battle was way too easy, but you didn't do anything with the oddish either. So nurr at you. Each pokemon gains... 1.0 EXP.

But, they're free to continue on.

And once they do, they'll find a rattata. It can't be befriended, but it won't fight unless it's prodded into it or attacked first. It'll take two pokeballs to catch it. Otherwise, it can just be ignored. Nothing else around other then that, though. And they can move onto the next landmark.

The grass swayed gently as Squall strode forwards, Owen safely sheltered between the four leafy fronds on his back. He had a thick hide, and they had already discovered that these wickedly long blades could cut. That was inconsequential, however, for they were making progress. Neither of them really knew where they were.

Prometheus had abandoned his usual perch upon Owen's head to instead ride upon Squall's, giving him an amazing view of the surroundings. As long as the Tropius didn't do anything too crazy, he would be perfectly safe up there, scouting ahead for potential threats. Potential sentient threats, actually, since every blade of grass within his line of sight was a potential threat.

As Owen fiddled with his Poketech, trying to figure out how to pull up the map of the region - he wasn't too good with new gadgets - he glanced over his shoulder to the Sentret, whom he had named Raniya on a whim. It had something to do with sight, or at least something vaguely related to seeing. She would be much better than Pro at scouting, but instead she was choosing to walk alone in the Tropius' wake. He couldn't for the life of him figure out exactly what prompted that decision, other than her unhappiness with him.

That was warranted, though, for he had interrupted her in her chore of gathering berries and stolen her away from her home. In fact, they weren't even in the Hillmoss Grasslands any more, he wagered, since he was pretty sure razor-sharp grass wasn't included in the area description.

On a whim, he put the device away and pulled out her pokeball, recalling her before letting her out again, directly into his lap. The Sentret blinked up at him, startled, then turned away, ready to hop off. He grabbed onto her and lifted her up. "Oh no you don't... we need to get to know each other better, you understand?"

Raniya hissed and shook her head violently, ears flopping rather comically as she did so. Unfortunately for her, Owen's grip was strong, and she couldn't manage to get free. Giving up, she sat in his lap, sulking, as he ruffled her fur gently. "You don't have to hate me..." She muttered something that probably translated roughly to "I don't have to, but I want to," although since Owen couldn't understand a word she said, it wasn't that much of an issue.

A Rattata darted by underfoot, glancing up at them before racing on ahead. Owen briefly considered siccing Pro on it, but decided that he'd let it go. He'd learned the impact his actions could have on lives and wasn't too keen on destroying any more. Now, if something came along picking a fight, that was fair game. Such as the Sewaddle had, or the Kricketot, or even... well, or even Raniya.

Life was complicated.

"Would it help if I apologized?" the teen queried, and the Sentret frowned. She hadn't actually thought that this boy - a human - would even consider apologizing to a Pokemon, especially one he'd enslaved against its will. Maybe he was different? Doubtful, but possible...

As they ventured onwards, the grass started to get shorter. A sure sign that progress was being made. They were almost heading north now. But why not? After all, with no destination in mind, any type of adventure was acceptable.

Moving on to the next landmark (4 Foot Grass 2), possibly a happyheart for Raniya? I dunno if this is enough for that.

0.5 :gexp2 and 4 for trust. Ramiya can lose one of those anger hearts. She's still pretty miffed, but getting there...

The 4 foot Grass doesn't yield all that much. Being so high, it tends to cover most things. But then, something rises above it all. A Bellsprout's head is just floating above the grass. How on earth does that work? Bellsprout are only about 2 ft tall, after all. Magic?

Once Owen gets close enough, he'll realise it's a Bellsprout riding on a Deerling, whipping her hard. Bit of an odd relationship that those two Pokemon share. The Deerling seems mildly scared of the Bellsprout, but they still seem to be friends, sorta.

The foursome continued onwards, Squall still pushing his way through the underbrush. Owen almost felt like taking a nap, for it was quite a nice day out and the Tropius' back was surprisingly comfortable. Raniya was being somewhat civil, sitting slightly unhappily in his lap. He ruffled her fur appreciatively and although she flinched from his hand at first, she made no move to try and get away from him. She could either be out here, enjoying the weather, or in her Pokeball.

Just as the teen began to doze off, Prometheus let out a shrill squeak. The navy-blue fur on his back instantly erupted to life as gouts of flame shot upwards. Squall turned his head, looking to try and find the cause of his teammate's alarm, and suddenly realized there was a Bellsprout staring at him.

A Bellsprout that appeared to be floating in midair. How on earth did that work? They were only about two feet tall, after all. Was it magic?

No. As they got closer, it became obvious that the Bellsprout was riding on another Pokemon's back. It appeared to be a Deerling, although Owen wasn't quite sure due to the fact that he'd never seen them in their Autumn Formes before. That was right - summer was practically over. He'd nearly forgotten. Apparently it was over, at least so far as these things were concerned.

The Deerling itself didn't seem too happy about its situation, as it kept glancing back over its shoulder at the weed-like Pokemon riding it. The Bellsprout was whipping it somewhat mercilessly. Whatever had brought them together, the current relationship was looking almost abusive. Although it was none of his concern, Owen couldn't help but intervene. Now that his team was stronger, he felt positive he could make up for leaving that Rattata yesterday.

"Pro! Use Ember on the Bellsprout, but be careful not to hit the Deerling!" The Cyndaquil nodded and spat fire at the demi-Poison Pokemon. It had looked up as soon as Owen spoke and as such was prepared, twisting its disgustingly thin body so as to avoid the brunt of the attack. Still, one or two of the burning-hot spheres managed to make contact.

It hopped off the Deerling, who seemed content to shirk backwards and let the fight continue, before unleashing a Growth, causing its loamy tendrils to bulk up considerably. Prometheus dived off of Squall's head, unwilling to involve the Tropius in this fight. He let loose another Ember, but most of the fireballs were swatted out of the air as the Bellsprout used Vine Whip.

The vines then struck Prometheus across the back, leaving red welts. He hissed and coughed up a choking Smokescreen to obscure the battlefield. Granted, now he couldn't see, either. He still needed to work on this whole blinding everybody nearby issue. Where was the Bellsprout?

A blur rushed past him as Raniya darted into the fray, her excellent scouting abilities making her the perfect choice to finish this battle off. For some odd reason it seemed like she'd seen something of herself in the Deerling - whatever secrets her past held, they were motivating her to finish things up here. She Slammed into the weed's side before moving on to Swipe at it Furiously. It couldn't stand up to her brutal assault and it collapsed, limp.

Prometheus took a step forwards as Squall hastened the clearing of the smog with a flap of his powerful fronds. "Raniya...?" The Sentret glanced up at Owen, eyes wide. She hadn't thought before engaging in battle - that right there was more proof of how strong she was, and how good of an addition she would be to their team. If she could come to trust them, that was.

"That was... awesome!" She let out a sigh before glancing at the still-cowering Deerling. All in a day's work.

Tick tick. Tick tick tick tick.

There's a sound. Right underneath your feet. But in the grass you can't see it...

...until three Joltik come crawling up your body. You may have to do something about that.

Owen hopped off of Squall's back, ready to congratulate his two little battlers. Prometheus and Raniya had each done excellent, managing to take out the Bellsprout. It looked like the Deerling had run off in terror. Poor little thing, she was probably completely and utterly terrified of them. Oh well. It was probably for the best if she warned all of her friends to stay away from trainers. The trainers might not agree, but that wasn't his primary concern!

As he picked up both his starter and first actual capture to give them a rather large hug made possible only by their small size and weight, he felt a small itching at his ankles. Well, it was probably the grass. He had been riding on his Tropius' back and as such didn't need to worry about it beforehand. As soon as he finished squeezing these two affectionately, he'd scratch.

But the itching moved upwards, onto his legs, and then his chest. Owen dropped the two basic Pokemon and lifted his shirt, suddenly staring face to face at three little Joltik climbing up his chest. Uh-oh. They were tiny, but they were bugs, and since they were part Electric that meant they were probably fairly strong, too. Brushing them off with a single hand, he hopped back up onto Squall's back.

"C'mon, Pro! Hurry, Ember the lot of them!" he called out, feeling incredibly violated at the moment. Honestly, what kind of manners were those? And what if he was diabetic and had one of those fancy new pumps that was hooked up directly to his side? They feasted on electrical currents, meaning he would have died. Somebody had to teach them a lesson before this incredibly unlikely scenario actually came true and they were a trio of murderers.

The Cyndaquil sighed and shook his head a bit disappointedly. They were just tiny little insects. His trainer really had no cause for such alarm, but hey, if it kept him in the spotlight a while longer he couldn't complain about that. As he prepared to unleash his fiery doom upon the Joltik triad, a bolt of electricity made contact with him, setting his fur on end.

It had apparently been powered by all three of them at once, because it stung a lot. Not quite like the results of that first battle he'd managed to find himself involved in, but still a lot. They had officially made this personal. He sat back on his hind legs, puffed out his chest, and let loose a peppering machine-gun-esque spray of flaming Embers.

After a few seconds he let up and took a cautious step forwards, only to find that only one of the small bugs had been hit his admittedly very thorough assault. One was scurrying away through the undergrowth, while the remaining one leaped through the air to land squarely on his back and begin weaving a coccoon of sticky threads and spiderwebs. It was most definitely uncomfortable and a tad painful, to boot.

Unfortunately, it apparently had never seen a Cyndaquil fight before, for it was resting directly between the four orange-red spots on the little echidna's back. With a chuckle, Prometheus flared up and allowed the bug to burn itself into unconsciousness before ending his brief little fiery moment. With a sigh, he shook, removing the last singed vestiges of silken bonds and a slightly barbecued, slightly comatose tick.

Owen heaved a sigh of relief, then patted Squall's flank, indicating for the two mammals to join him. "Thanks so much, Pro. They deserved that!" The Fire type just nodded, knowing that was what his trainer wanted, and winked at Raniya. With that, they hopped onto the tropical reptilian's back to sit next to Owen and they continued making their way - unknowingly, mind you - towards Lorenzo.
