July Freeform Contest Okay, so this isn't strictly in Misthenge Village, but it seemed to be the best place to put it, as canonically that's where I'm headed. This freeform is basically a series of diary entries written by Creedon. It will start off roughly at the point where Kurt caught Caius the Zubat, and move on from there to highlight some of the unfortunate changes the Pokemon has made in his life. Structurally, it slots into where I've gone with the canon journey, sorta in the in-between bits. So Moorfeldt and catching Caius all happened before Little Hillmoss and the lab. That went onto Hillmoss Grasslands on the same day, and that evening, they arrived in Misthenge. Also, since it's written directly by Creedon, there will be things that don't flow so well (his thoughts are pretty disorganised) and he will make silly mistakes in his word usage and spelling all that. They're all intentional. Edited by Fuddledy, Jul 26 2011, 05:27 AM.

15th June Diaries are for girls. I don't get why Kurt is making me keep one. It's so girly. I'm not a girl. He said something about it helping me to cronnikel my journey. I don't even know what that means! I tried to look it up, but it wasn't in the dictionary. I bet Kurt was just making words up to make himself seem smarter. He always seems to do that. I guess it kinda works - he does sound pretty smart. But then it's stupid to use big, made-up words like that to me. What's the point if other people don't understand you when you talk to them? I don't even know what I'm supposed to be writing about here. What did I do today? Didn't do anything, really. Like, seriously nothing. We only left home a few days ago, and most of it so far has been sitting in the car. I hope that's not all I get to do. I finished most of the Xbox games in the car. Kurt says that playing too much is bad for my brain, but I think it's been pretty good. Where else do you learn how to shoot zombies in the head? I don't see them ever teaching THAT at school! |

16th June Chronicle. It wasn't a made-up word. He showed it to me today. Well, how was I supposed to know how you spell it? I'm only 12. The thing I DON'T get is how he knew about that. I didn't ask him about the word. Did he read this? I don't know all that much about stupid girly things like diaries, but I'm pretty sure that you're not allowed to read someone else's. I even put it in the big box that Kurt gave me, with the lock and key that he gave me. How could he get to it? Are you reading what I write, Kurt? I hope not, because then you're going to get in troubel. I wish I didn't have to write this. I still don't get the point of it. We arrived in Moorfeldt City today, and found a house to stay in. When are we ever going to get to the place where I get a Pokemon? Little Molehill or something. I WANT A POKEMON. Edited by Fuddledy, Jul 26 2011, 05:24 AM.

18th June I think I actually have something to write about now. The weirdest things happened yesterday. It started off pretty normal... well, no, it wasn't normal. I HAD TO SIT INSIDE AND DO HOMEWORK! That is definitely NOT normal. No way, ever. Stupid Kurt was making me do these stupid maths things about stupid cows and stupid chickens and all sorts of stupid animals. Who cares about their stupid legs and their stupid heads? Anyway, there was this REALLY EVIL bat thing that attacked me! First it used its mind-control powers to put me to sleep, and then Kurt got annoyed at me for that. It wasn't even my fault! I can't do anything when I'm being picked on by some undead vampire monster! So unfair. He's always unfair. Unfair and stupid. I tried to fight it off with spitballs, but it could do this freaky thing where it summoned hellfire, and it burned all of them up. I didn't know what to do. I'm not a scaredy-cat (only girls are), but I think boys are allowed to be scared when a vampire monster is trying to suck your brains out. It even got Kurt, too! I was telling him about the creature and he just said I was being silly. Me? Silly? I'm never silly. I'm only right. That was probably the scariest part, but. Somehow the vampire used its mind-control powers on Kurt, and he fell for it! I used to think that Kurt was invincible against everything, but it doesn't seem like that any more. He started TALKING to the bat, and playing with it, and helping it, and PICKING ON ME AS WELL! The evil bat vampire had somehow taken over Kurt's brain, and was controlling him. I tried everything I could to stop him, but nothing worked. I don't know what's going to happen now. The vampire got Kurt to catch it, so now it's always around. I have to be careful now, watchful, like a superspy, or a vampire hunter. There WILL be a chance to get rid of it, and I just need to be ready for then. Don't worry Kurt! I'll free your brain! 20th June It's not really working. I've tried all sorts of things to exercise (is that the right word?) that bat thing from Kurt's head, but he still doesn't see that he's being controlled by an evil undead monster. Every time I bring it up he just ignores me, and if I don't leave him alone, he gets all angry and makes scary threats. I guess that's not too different to how it was before, but it DOES seem like he's doing it more now. And I bet it's all that bat's fault. I always see it sniggering away when I'm around. Staring at me with its weird, freaky no-eyes face. I bet it can read my mind, and knows that I'm on its tail. That's why it's making it so much harder for me to get through to Kurt. I've tried all the normal cures. Yesterday I fed Kurt garlic. But that didn't do anything. It might have been because Caius was nearby, and the vampire's power is stronger when it's around. So I waited until the bat was gone, and used this garlic paste I prepared earlier. I jumped on Kurt when he wasn't watching and put the garlic directly onto his head. Skin soaks things up and takes it inside, right? It was pretty smart of me to think of putting garlic directly onto his head, I think. That way, it would go straight into his brain and drive out the vampire-ness. I haven't had a chance to see if it's worked yet. That was just this afternoon. My plan is to keep watching Kurt, and hopefully he'll get better. --- My head hurts so much! Kurt didn't say anything when I garlicked him, so I thought that vampire genes had stopped him from getting angry. Turns out they don't stop that. He was angry, and I just had to sit through a documentary that went for 50 hours, then answer 1000 questions on it! It was so boring, too. It was about old people from a million years ago and how they didn't have TV. How boring would life be without TV? But yeah, he was clearly angry, and ready to give punishment. But that wasn't even the WORST part. The WORST part was that I went through all that for ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!! The garlic didn't work. That stupid bat was there the whole time, watching, smirking, floating behind me like an annoying bat/fly. I can't believe it didn't work! I guess there's other things I can do, though. Putting a stick in Kurt's heart seems a bit mean, though, so I will probably stick to the cross. I have a cross hidden in a secret place - one of my best friends from school gave it to me. Her name was Alison. When I was younger, I totally thought I was going to marry her, but then she got girl germs and became all disgusting and ew to touch. But yes, I have a cross on a necklace that she gave me. (She gave me a necklace, such a typical GIRL. Guys obviously don't wear necklaces). Even Kurt doesn't know about it, because she told me to keep it a secret, and I have. I can be very good at keeping secrets when I need to be. It's hidden away in this special compartment in my Pokemon card box, the one I keep all my collection in. You take half the cards out, push down on the remaining stack, and a little thing pops open which opens the secret compartment. It's a pretty cool hiding spot. Not even Kurt knows about it, so Caius won't be able to read his mind and learn about my secret plans. I WILL win, stupid vampire. Edited by Fuddledy, Jul 26 2011, 05:25 AM.

21st June FML!!! Fat moody llamas! I heard someone use it once, although they wouldn't tell me what the letters stood for, so I had to make something up that seemed to fit the meaning. Fat moody llamas are horrible, so it seemed like a good way to describe things when they go wrong. I think Kurt definitely reads this. I KNOW YOU'RE READING THIS EVEN WHEN YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO, KURT!!! I woke up this morning, to find my cross and to begin Operation Vampire Exercising, and IT WAS GONE. Just gone. Disappeared. I opened my box, took out some of the cards, pressed down on limited edition Rayquaza card I used to mark the halfway mark, and the cross necklace was NOT THERE. At first I thought that I might have just lost it, or that I already took it out last night, but then, at breakfast, I saw Caius wearing it. I couldn't believe my eyes! How did that evil vampire get it? How could it wear it without vapourising? Nothing was making sense any more. I just stood there, totally confused, and it just smirked at me. AAAAAAARRRRRGH!!!! Then Kurt just smiled at me as well. I KNOW that he was reading my diary. I KNOW that Caius then read his mind and made him steal the cross. I KNOW that I am now officially screwed. How do I get rid of the vampire genes in Kurt's brain? Is he going to stay under mind-control forever? I don't want mind-controlled Kurt. I want normal, stupid, less-mean Kurt. What can I d --- How smart am I? Wasn't that clever and suttle? I bet the stupid bat will never figure out my plan. Edited by Fuddledy, Jul 26 2011, 05:26 AM.

24th June We're in Misthenge Village now. Spent the last few days really getting our adventure kicked off. I got Piddles from the angry Professor lady, and then walked a really long way through some grass. Had to help a girl who was too noob to rescue her own cat that got stuck in a tree. Silly girls. I can't believe I've gotten all these Pokemon already, but. Just got Zapster today. He's a cool spider Pokemon who likes nibbling on Kurt. He also likes nibbling --- Blah. I just spent some time playing with him so that he'd let me write in peace. All this diary stuff is starting to look maybe possibly okay, but it's still really girly, and I still don't REALLY enjoy it. I don't even do it everyday. I had to warn Zapster about licking Kurt too much, though. Those vampire genes are still in his head, and I'd be so sad if Zapster turned into a mindless zombie puppet as well. He's so much cooler and funner than Kurt, and I want him to stay like that. I still don't know what to do about Caius, though. The cross didn't end up working, even though it was wearing it for at least a day. Even if Kurt had managed to break my supersecretawesomespycode (which no-one can), he didn't get the vampire to take it off. But still, it didn't shrivel up and die an agonising painful hideous death (I learnt those words from my video games). WHY? The cross should have worked really good! Maybe Caius is a really special, really powerful vampire. Sometimes they can be immune to the weaker weapons. Maybe that's why my garlic didn't work either. There's fire, but Caius BREATHES fire now, since he took over Kurt's own demonic hellfire powers. What else works against vampires? I wonder if Kurt would know. I wonder if he'd tell me. If he does, then maybe it will be a sign that he's trying to fight off the mind-control, and that he secretly wants me to defeat the vampire and free him. That will be so good to hear. I don't know what to do any more! I asked Zapster if he knows anything about vampire exercising, but he just shook his head and sucked on my pencil. Has he already been exposed to Caius's brain-control genes? I don't think so, because he hasn't been too close to Kurt since I realised the danger he was in. But I dunno any more. If Caius is really some sort of supervampire, then he might have been able to infect Zapster even in that little time. I sure hope not... Edited by Fuddledy, Jul 26 2011, 05:22 AM.

25th June I don't even know why I keep writing in this lame book. But I don't have anyone else to talk to any more! Kurt is gone. And then there's no-one after that. Even the police wouldn't help me! I tried to sneak off the Police Station today and tell them about how Caius had mind-controlled Kurt and was making him be even more evil than usual, but the police just laughed at me. They LAUGHED at me! That was so not fair. I wasn't making things up! I'm a good boy who doesn't do horrible things like make up lies about other people. That's not very nice. I was about to leave, when they suddenly told me to stay where I was. I got so scared! It was like in the movies when they suddenly want to arrest you for doing some sort of bad crime. And then, I saw it. Floating behind them. ANOTHER VAMPIRE!!! I think I screamed a little bit. Not too loudly, because I'm a boy, and boys don't aren't cowards and don't scream like girls. But I definitely fell out of my seat. I have the bump on my bum to prove it. But it was there - another vampire. It wasn't Caius, I could tell, but it was the same sort of undead bat monster. Then the police's behaviour suddenly became clear to me. THEY were under the control of a vampire too! Probably one of Caius's cousins or something! That was why they thought I was being silly, because they were all mind-controlled and had no idea themselves. I knew I had to get away as fast as I could, but then the biggest policeman closed the door on me. I was supersmart, though, and told him I needed to go pee. He let me go, and I ran out the door. I guess they don't get any smarter when they have the vampire genes in their brain. I ran all the way back to the little house where we were staying. I think a few old people looked at me weirdly on the way, but what do they know? They're old people. None of them would understand the horrible that things that happen with vampires around. What can I do now? This village is also really foggy and dark, perfect for vampires to hide out. What if there are more vampires out there controlling all the people here? Vampires don't like the sun - everyone knows that. So it makes sense that they all hide out in the village. What if Caius brought me here so that it could get me with all its evil vampire cousins? I've been able to fight off one of them so far, but... a whole swarm of them? Is that the right word? Flock? Pack? Herd? Pod? Pride? I dunno. A big GROUP of them... I can't fight one of those off! I'm going to need help... Edited by Fuddledy, Jul 26 2011, 05:22 AM.

26th June I THINK I HAVE THE ANSWER!!! I met a really nice old lady today. She had a bit of grass in her hair, and it looked really frizzy, and she kept drooling a bit, but she was really nice. She UNDERSTOOD me. I met her outside her palace. Well, she called it a palace, but it just looked like a really ugly-looking hut to me. No-one was taking care of the gardens, clearly. A palace is like, our house. But aside from that, she was absolutely normal. She had about fifteen cats at home, who kinda sat on her all the time. I don't know how she managed to do that... some of them looked pretty heavy. But yeah, normal, nice lady. She believed me when I told her about the vampire problems. In fact, she even said that she had thought that the town was vampire-infested for ages. She said that the way some of the people acted, it was definitely a sign of mind-control. Like the doctors who kept telling her that she belonged in a special hospital. She didn't look sick at all! Why would she need to go to hospital? That definitely sounded suspisshus to me. I met her when I was running away from Caius. Kurt told the vampire to look after me while he went to do some errands (like collect fresh blood, I bet), and I was stuck at home with the vampire, who kept staring at me like I was a yummy burger or something. I couldn't take it, so I ran. The lady saw me running and invited me inside so I could hide. See how nice she was? When I got in, she introduced me to her friend called Steve, but I couldn't see him. He might have been one of those imaginary friends, but I didn't think they still existed. All of mine disappeared when I was about seven and a half. This lady, who was all old and wrinkly, still had one. That was pretty nice, that she had kept in contact with her invisible friend for so many millions of years. I know how important imaginary friends can be, so I pretended to see Steve and talked to him every now and then, which the old lady seemed to like a lot. Apparently everyone keeps telling her she's crazy when she brings him up. Poor lady. But anyway Wendy (the old lady) listened to my story very carefully, and she was supernice about everything. She agreed with me that the cause of all the crazy people in town was probably because of vampires taking over their brains, and told me that I should keep my diary in my pockets from now on, in case Kurt gets any more information that he shouldn't. How smart was that idea? I'm amazed I didn't think of it myself. I stayed at Wendy's house for a while, fed her cats, and promised to come again the next day. She said it was time to get rid of all the vampires once and for all, and said that we could work together to make a superduper vampire killing weapon tomorrow. I think it's pretty cool how she knows so much about killing vampires. I guess I was wrong yesterday. Old people do know some stuff too. Maybe Steve was telling her. I never found out if Steve was old like her or if he was younger. Imaginary friends are usually the same age, but I had a couple who were different ages, so I guess he could have been younger. 28th June I AM GOING TO DIE!!! I AM REALLY GOING TO DIE!!! REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY GOING TO DIE!!! I don't even know what to write any more. This place is getting freakier and freakier. I couldn't go to see Wendy the old lady yesterday, because Kurt kept his demon eyes on me all day. That was alright though, I sent her a secret message via cat (Mr. Whiskers came to visit me). Our secret plan to exercise all the vampires could wait another day. So I went today, but when I got there, there were all these cars outside, and lots of sirens. The vampire-controlled police were there, and so were some ambulance people (probably also vampire-controlled). I was trying to figure out what was going on, and when I asked someone, they said that Wendy was dead. DEAD-DEAD!!! Not sick-dead, but DEAD-DEAD! The police were there, trying to figure out what happened. I overheard the ambulance people saying something about skitzo-something. It was something that crazy people had, and made them do weird things. They said that she was found bleeding, with some holes in her (I couldn't hear everything) and said it was something to do with her craziness. But she WASN'T crazy! That was only the vampire genes talking in their brains! I knew immediately what had happened. The vampires had attacked her because she knew too much. She was on their tail, and so they had decided to silence her before she could interrupt their plan to turn Misthenge Village into a vampire paradise. This can only mean one thing. I'M NEXT!!! Other than Wendy, I'm pretty sure I knew the most about their plans, and so it means they'll be coming after me next. Caius was kinda grinning at me when I got home. It knows. It's probably the one behind it all. I tried not to let it see how freaked out I was, and went straight to my room. I'm writing this now as my last message to the world. I wish we had never met Caius in that house back there. Things have gone so wrong since then. I've lost Kurt to the vampire's mind-control, and I lost Wendy to them too. What else is going to happen to me? Everything's changed, and I hate it. I hate it hate it hate it hate it. I want things to go back to the way they were before all this. But they won't. I know you can't make time go back. I'm doomed. So this is my final message to the world. I hope that someone continues on in my place against the vampires. Love your friends. Fight the vampires. Eat your garlic. Bye-bye, and I hope you never run into a vampire ever. My name is Creedon Evans, and my life was ruined by a vampire. Edited by Fuddledy, Jul 26 2011, 05:22 AM.

And there ends Creedon's odd little adventure with Caius. Hopefully you enjoyed the little journey with his wild imagination. For people who are interested in the fine details... Wendy died when Steve convinced her to take a knife and make a few incisions across her neck. Unfortunately her affected mind could not discern reality from hallucination, and Steve had been by her side for so long she could not imagine him steering her astray. Rewards Don't think anything could be plucked out of this in terms of item rewards... I would kinda like a Thunder TM, but I didn't really find a way to put it in the story, and so I don't think I can really claim it. Otherwise, just normal EXP, and if there's anything specific to Caius, then sure, I'll go for that. |

Well that was... odd. It was a good odd though – it was quite entertaining (in a facepalming, sweet-jiminy-Creedon-you're-an-absolute-nitwit fashion). Also, I was impressed that you decided to concentrate on a negative change a pokemon had made on your trainer's life – made for a nice change of pace from what was expected in the contest. Now, things that could do with work: spelling and grammar are kind-of inapplicable in this freeform, due to the deliberate inclusion of spelling mistakes and incoherent grammar. The fact that Creedon kept writing in the diary even after he knew it was being read seemed a bit odd (but that's more a shortcoming of the “reading someone's diary” style of writing than of the story itself). Also, the last section with the crazy old cat lady didn't quite sit right with me. It made sense, and the conclusion was quite natural (tragically so), but I was left feeling ambivalent about it for some reason. Creedon's bizarre leaps in logic and consistent failure to spot the obvious were quite amusing – I was left wondering what crazy theory he was going to come up with next to explain why Caius didn't act or react like a vampire. I've got half a mind to have my Rotom wander past him at some point and convince the poor kid he's being haunted by a malevolent poltergeist just for the fun of it – and to me, making me want to get in on the action is a sign of a good story. Now, generally the smods prefer the acquisition of a TM or similar item to be justified in-story (even if it's as abstract as having the pokemon use a really powerful thunderbolt attack and inadvertantly making it a Thunder attack). I've weighed it up, and decided to award it this time around – do try to find some way to justify it in the actual freeform though, as a rule. I've also decided to make something out of that little cross/rosary Caius ended up with; as such, I present you with: TM 25 Thunder Spell Tag (in the shape of a rosary) – Boosts Ghost moves power by 20%2.7 ![]() Enjoy. ^^ (Nabs 0.3 mod )
