[ STATUS/ACTION: Visiting the Star Observatory ]

After his loss against the trainer Sandra in the Fighting Ring, Rubin rushed to the Pokemon Center filled with shame. In fact, after he healed them all, he released Treecko, Metapod, and Zigzagoon from out of their pokeballs and prostrated in front of them. While doing that, all of his embarrassement spilled out as he apologized to them. Rubin felt that he was very careless in the previous battle and could not believe that he made his pokemon faint in battle, regardless that two were unfamiliar and strong pokemon. He would most likely face strong opponents in the future, but this butt-kicking felt made him feel like he wasn't skillful enough, so he would beat himself up about it momentraily.

After the Poke-Center trip, his tour in Murmur continued. He had time to spare and there was no hurry in facing Boe, since he felt like he had much more to learn and discover.

"Huh? Seriously?!" Rubin said while looking down at his hands, which were holding his PokeTech. On the screen was a photo of the pokemon Ghastly and underneath it was a bar filled with text.

"No wonder! DANG! I am so stupid! STUPID STUPID STUPID!" The rookie trainer shook his PokeTech in frustration like it was at fault for something. It didn't really do anything wrong, just reveal the facts that Ghastly was immune to normal attacks, and for reviving Rubin's embarrassment for not knowing that earlier. On the other side of the coin, its own ghost attacks couldn't hit normal pokemon like Zigzagoon.

Rubin held his Tech in one hand while cupping his chin with the other, speaking his thoughts outloud, "So that's why she just passed through like that. Like ghosts on TV. So does that mean all physical attacks can't harm it?" The trainer hummed, then turned to Treecko, who was walking right next to him.

"I guess that's why Mega Drain worked. Treecko, I'm sorry."

The geecko pokemon turned his head to look at his trainer, giving him a cool single nod before looking ahead again. Rubin raised his Tech again and looked in it, pressing a finger on the touch screen. His entire focus was on it as he cheats on Bulbapedia, until he reached a mountain in Malral. As he did, both Rubin and Treecko were compeled to look up.

"Wooow!" The boy uttered in obvious awe, his eyes tracing the mountain up to its peak. At the top was a dome structure.

"I wonder what that is?"

OMG LOOK IT'S A DF MOD!!! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES, THE WORLD IS ENDING!!!!

anyways, 0.3 :gexp2

To answer your question, there was a sign where the path to the observatory began. It said "Shooting Star Observatory". The path itself was pretty much straightforward, with a bend here and there to go around rocks and steep climbs. The observatory itself is quite impressive, what with that giant telescope pointed at the sky and all. This is the famous Shooting Star Observatory, well known for its studies worldwide. A shame that it got visited only once. Seriously, people need to start coming here more often.

Anyways, here you are looking up at the building. Once you had a good look at it, you could feel that something was off. You couldn't quite put your finger to it, but the air somehow feels strange. There was nothing out of the ordinary as far as you could see, yet the feeling lingered. Perhaps you should go up there and see what's going on?

"Shooting Star...Ob...ser..vatory?" Reaching the start to the path, Rubin read the sign in front of him, then looked up at the dome to examine it. Treecko followed his trainer's head and looked as well.

"It looks like something from out of those alien sci-fi movies. Something from TV, with some old guy in it." Rubin said. The kid watched plenty of TV, and the structure before him was reminiscent of a busy scientist character who liked to sit behind a pile of papers and look through the telescopic to record his data. Or maybe it was a laser beam? The wide barrel of the telescope did make Rubin think it could be some advanced technology, or somewhere in the dome, AT was contained.

"A sun weapon? Ah well," Rubin didn't think on pointless details for long, shrugged his shoulders, and entered the path leading up to the place with Treecko following him. It looked liked it would be a straightforward travel up there and Rubin felt that no one wouldn't mind checking the place out, he was visitor after all. So, he felt excited as he closed in with a smile upon his face, at least momentarily. After holding up for seconds, the smile would bend into a frown. His face wrinkled and he could feel himself twitching his eyebrow. What was bothering him?

Then his footsteps slowed to a stop. Treecko stopped as well and looked up at his trainer.

"Mmm...I don't..know," Rubin said, "What if, oh, nevermind, nothing's wrong. Let's go!"

Shrugging it off, the kid resumed walking. No sense of danger does he?

0.3 :gexp2 Sorry for the wait! Work is bogging me down >.<

Walking headlong into the unknown without a care in the world, eh?

The sad thing is: as you walked the path up to the observatory, nothing happened at all. That's right, even though the feeling of unease is there, nothing jumped out at you. Either there is really nothing wrong or there's something waiting for you at the observatory. Who knows, the only way to really know is to actually enter the building and see for yourself.

On the other hand, this is Malral, home to psychics and ghosts. Perhaps there is a ghost tagging you? The only thing that you could even notice is that a particularly huge cloud had blotted out the sun, casting a shadowy pall over the observatory. Some fanatic that believed in portent signs would rave that this is a bad sign and that it means that you should stay away from the building. To be truthfully, it does indeed look as if something bad would happen should you approach the building right?

As been stated before, nothing at all happened as you walk up to the observatory. You had no problems reaching the door. The question is: do you want to open the door or not?

Mod note: If you do open the door, I will put you in a storyline with me.

Rubin had seen his first ghost back at the fight ring, but it never occurred to him that he would see another one nor encounter any trouble leading up to the observatory. It was despite knowing that this town Malral was by far the most suspicious place that he has been to. The first clue was when he first entered the town, when the citizens met him with smiling faces, but it was like they were stone or not genuine. And as a kid, Rubin brushed it off and didn't feel threatened.

Things would become further strange when Rubin and Treecko approached the observatory's entrance door. The boy looked up to see a huge cloud covering the sun, and he immediately thought, "It's going to rain!" A shadow was cast over the structure.

Treecko and Rubin rushed up to the door, the trainer's hand first reaching the knob (or handle) to open the door. Let's go in!

You are now in a storyline with me. It might be a tad bit long, so bear with me.

The door swung easily inward in response to your hand. You were greeted with a dimly lit room that is pretty much the entire building itself. There were no lights currently on, which explained why the room is dimly lit. The telescope itself that was centered in the room hadn't been retracted and the roof closed yet in response to the cloud blotting out the sun. The only light that came through the cloud is the only source of light.

Looking around, you would find the building to be in a neat order; with stacks of papers in neat stacks, the instruments neatly organized, the various items in their proper spots. The only thing really out of place with the entire appearance is that the observatory hasn't prepared itself just in case of rain. Besides, you can't even observe stars when there is a cloud in your way.

Furthermore, there was a man sitting in front of a lit computer with his back turned towards you smack dab right next to the telescope. The area that he was in was enclosed by a rail that separated the center of the room and the outside rim. The opening is right in front of you, with stairs leading down to the telescope area. The man you spotted was dressed in the stereotypical white lab clothing with black shoes. That's really all you're going to see. Unless you want to call out to him?

"Woooow," Rubin was easily enticed and his curiosity took over. Closing the door behind him, he looked around what seemed to be the Observatory's entire exterior. There were no lights on, as if the place was abandoned or everyone was out of work for today, and the area was tidy as well. The trainer looked up and saw the telescope, plus the ominous dark "raincloud" (least that's what Rubin thought it was) that hovered overhead.

Rubin scratched his head and said to himself outloud, "If the rain comes, is there a way to cover the roof?"

He was unaware that anyone was around until he looked ahead. He didn't realize it before, but there was a guy sitting next to the telescope, right in front of a lit computer. Rubin moved closer to him in slow steps.

"Oh, he works here. Right? I think." He whispered.

The man continued to do some more typing on the computer. You could clearly hear the keys being pushed. Either he was too focused on the computer to hear you or he didn't hear you at all. You have an easier time analyzing him now that you have gone closer without him hearing you yet.

He seemed to be an average sort of guy and there the "average" ended. His ebony hair stood out in all directions, and did you just spot some red highlights? Yes you did, this man has ebony hair with a red highlight at the very ends. Very strange indeed. He was also sitting in a hunchback kinda way. More like putting his head right between his shoulders while bringing them up at the same time. When's the last time you've seen someone sitting like this?

Oh, and let's not forget your Treecko. He could sense that something's very wrong with this man. Not quite sure, but something definitely feels out of place with that guy there. May wanna be extra careful. Oh, by the way, your eggs are about to hatch. That will definitely draw the man's attention. May wanna tend to that first.

Rubin stopped in his slow stride, as he now began to feel a little bit of apprehension. He looked towards the strange man's backside, but there hasn't been a single response from his unauthorized presence. The boy took time to think about what would happen if he went ahead. Would he scare the person and break him out of his concentration? Also, if he did that, Rubin may make the stranger pretty upset too. The young trainer's face twisted as his hesitancy began to grow. Furthermore, Mister White Coat looked like he was definately absorbed into the computer, so much that he didn't care for his ragged anime hair. He was like a mad scientist from a old-fashioned movie, and approaching such types especially in a low-lit area, usually didn't mean any good.

What should I do, Rubin thought. Suddenly he looked down at his leg at he felt a tug. A green claw pulled on Rubin's pants and looking up at him was Treecko, eyes narrow from suspicion.

"What?" Rubin said, looking back at the man on the computer. Even though Rubin was nervous, he wanted to stay in and avoid the rain. Also, didn't he not want to tour the place? Before making another move, Rubin let out a gasp. He was surprised, his mouth jumping open. The SSO worker still didn't move, something was rattling inside Rubin backpack. Disregarding the scientist, Rubin slipped off his pack and crouched down to the ground on one knee.

"What is it?!" After placing his pack onto the floor, Rubin zipped it open and peered inside.

Suddenly an exclaim, "OH! They're moving!" The boy reached inside with both hands and took out one of his eggs, getting the other one shortly after. "Wha-wha-wha-what?! I can't believe it! Now?!"

It was the Christmas eggs. Notice of the strange man at the computer completely left Rubin as his body began to boil with anticipation. He leaned the eggs next to his backpack and could do nothing left but watch. Treecko stared as well; the shell began to crack from top to bottom, slowly.

"Come on," Rubin said, pulling his hand towards him in a slow wave. More cracks appeared across the eggs, then the shells began to to fall off as tiny fragments. In one egg, an orange bill protruded out; in the other egg, a bluish wing. A few more seconds pass and finally most of the egg collapsed. Before Rubin and Treecko, two unfamiliar pokemon were unveiled.

One held its head in between its flippers; the other was peppy, batting no pun intended its wings around.

:psyduck :fl

:zubat :ml

"Wow..." Rubin said at a low breath, and reached for the yellow duck pokemon. It seemed the most calm out of the two newborns, thus was expectantly easy to handle. At the same time, both the duck and Rubin tilted their heads to the side. It reminded the boy of a cute confused puppy, and Rubin couldn't help but let out a laugh.

He smiled and said, "How cute! Hi there! Welcome to the world!"

Rubin placed Psyduck down next his backpack, pat its head a few times, and then slowly reached for the bat pokemon, attempting to give it the same happy greeting. However, he was hesitant; Zubat was fluttered his wings so fast as if in a panicing manner, which made Rubin keep pulling back his hands. However, since it was just born, the poison/flying type had lack of stamina and showed signs of tiring out. It's flapping began to slow down.

"Hey, calm down." At an interval, Rubin slowly reached again. Zubat's wings slowed to a stop and the trainer's hands wrapped around its round body. The trainer brought the bat pokemon up to his face level, let out a sigh of relief, and then finally smiled. He wanted to say a greeting, but quickly had a change of mind. Instead, he held his words for a few seconds to observe the pokemon's physical appearance. To those who were ignorant of them, bats were a little creepy and repulsive, and that was definitely when compared to ducks.

However, young Rubin managed to point out a charm of Zubat.

"Hmm, something about your teeth is cute." He said in a genuinely kind tone, "You won't bite me right?"

If you want to give DF a chance to finish his storyline with you, you are welcome to consider this thread Non-canon from this point forward. That means you bounce back to town and resume your journey, and post back here whenever DF gets a chance to RP with you. If you want to just drop the storyline aspect of this, let me know via PM.

Eh, fuck it. I have been going back and forth between this and my renewed love for a certain MOBA game and I can't come up with words for this mod. So, I'm going to take a gamble and attempt a Fudd Mod along with regular modding. I hope this works!
The man suddenly swiveled around on the chair upon hearing your exclamation to look at you, looking as if you were an intruder. His eyes flared deep red in that instant before reverting back to brown. It only happened in a split second, so it was quite hard to catch.

Once he saw what you were, a simple boy reacting to baby Pokemon hatching, his face smoothed down to a pleasant looking face. He adjusted his glasses, then walked over to you in a casual manner.

At this point, the Fudd mod begins:
-This man is mute. He doesn't even mention his name but you could see his name tag that states his name. You could come up with it if you want.
-He will make a point in keeping his distance away from your Treecko although he doesn't inform you outright.
-He will agree to take you on a tour if you ask him. If you don't want a tour, then he will try to incite you to look in the telescope.
-If doing the tour, if your Treecko tries to get close to him to take a sniff at him (since he's convinced that this man isn't human) then the guy will choose that moment to switch your focus to something else and immediately take the chance to stay away from your Treecko. He will end the tour with the telescope, which at that point he will try to incite you to look into the telescope. He will not even care about your Treecko at this point.

What I'm getting at is; this storyline pretty much requires you to look into the telescope. Otherwise, I can't continue it. I'm just trying to rush things here since you had to wait so long, haha. I promise you, the next mod will launch you into the main bulk of the storyline.

=======

Rubin's attention was averted from Zubat momentarily. While carrying the bat pokemon, he lowered it to look ahead. It was then he saw the scientist walking towards him.

"Oh!" The young trainer rose up from his knees to acknowledge the scientist. Instead of starting with a formal greeting, Rubin began with an apology.

"S-Sorry, f-for coming in! You looked so busy that I didn't want to bother you." He said, but there wasn't a verbal response. Instead, the man gave out a pleasant looking smile and waved his head. Confused, Rubin blinked his eyes a few times, but would easy take the gesture as an acceptance to his apology.

"Whew!" Rubin sighed in relief. A little over a yard of space was between the boy and the scientist, and neither made no attempts to come closer. Rubin noticed the strange man raising an eyebrow, then he looked down at his Treecko, who kept a strong glare upon the guy. Rubin scratched his head, confused.

"Why is he so watchful?" The boy thought, then looked back at the scientist, another thought occuring to him, "Geez, he doesn't talk much at all. Those kind of guys are strange."

"Uhh hey sir! I've been thinking about looking around, but it looks like I'm stuck here. Some ugly looking raincloud out." Rubin said.

The strange man rubbed his hands together, then gestured one towards the telescope.

"Huh?" Rubin looked over to the large tubular device, and easily believed that the hand movement was a sign to go over to the telescope. He placed Zubat down next to his backpack; next, he picked up the backpack, slipped it back on, grabbed Zubat again, then walked over to the telescope. Treecko and Psyduck followed closely behind, so did the scientist.

After reaching the scope, Rubin turned around to see the man looking at him. The kid beamed, "It's pretty cool! Can I look Mister uh..." Rubin leaned his head forward and narrowed his eyes to inspect something on the man's lab coat. In actuality, his name was sewn into the left breastpocket with black string: Dr. Steriu.

Rubin attempted to pronounce it a couple of times, "S..Stur-rooh? Stare-rooh?"

The scientist said nothing, but nodded his head.

"Cool!" Rubin exclaimed, turned back to the scope, then peeked.

0.3 :gexp2 Not too impressive but I lol'ed at the name you gave the astrologist.

4 on the trust scale. Also, I may do a wee bit of godmodding at the end but I hope I didn't do too much of it. Sorry if I stepped over the line!

Nothing in the world could ever prepare you for what you were about to witness.

Peering into the telescope, you expected to see clouds or something in the sky that the astrologist wanted to show you or something. What you did not expect to see was a sea of trees. You tried to peel your face away from the telescope to make sure it was pointing upwards and not downwards, but due to some strange sorcery at work, you could not. It felt like your face was attached to the telescope like glue. Furthermore, the more you tried to resist, the more that the image of the trees drew you in. What was so special about these trees?

You knew that you were looking at the Forest of Fury. How you came to that conculsion, you had no idea. The knowledge was implanted into your brain in some way. Why would you be looking at - wait. Whatever thoughts you had were interrupted when you had the feeling that you were zooming in into the image. The sea of trees grew closer and closer and closer until you were able to make out the individual trees. You continued to zoom in until you can see the spaces between the trees, and until you were amongst the branches. The zooming didn't stop until you reached the forest floor.

What you saw made you feel as if you were actually there instead of looking through a telescope. You were in an grove, and you were looking at what seemed to be a cave mouth on a...tree?! What?! Almost on impulse, you had the sensation of walking towards that cave mouth with the intention of entering it. Once that was done, you peered into what you expected was darkness. You were not expecting to come face to face with fire just over yonder. Actually, to be more precise, you were looking at a cocoon that's on fire but not actually burning. What's going on here?

You suddenly found yourself freed of some kind of pressure on your head and you were able to wrench it away from the telescope. You turned to the man, expecting some answers, only to be greeted with the sudden appearance of a demon fox with an, what seemed to be, evil smile with glowing red eyes. All of a sudden, the entire building twisted and contorted into itself and blackness came.

Meanwhile while all that was happening to you...

When you put your eye to the telescope, the man's mouth suddenly grew into a twisted smile of the kind that's virtually impossible for the human mouth to make. His head snapped towards your Treecko, and the gecko knew then that he was right in assuming that this man isn't human at all. Then, with astonishing speed, the man dove for the grass starter. Fortunately, your Treecko managed to apply evasive maneuvers and dodged at the last second thanks to the innate reflexes of Detect. He leaped away from the now questionable human, well out of reach.

The babies, however, were not so fortunate.

Having failed in neutralizing your grass starter, the man shifted his attention to your babies who were now trying to get your attention to what's going on to no avail. The not-human wasted no time in grabbing at them and forcing them to look into his glowing red eyes. The thrashings soon ceased as drowsiness, and eventually sleep, took hold of them. The glowing-red-eyes-figure then whipped his head back at the Treecko just as the wood gecko tried to break his hold on the baby Pokemon. He released his hold on the duck to block a Pound attack fueled by a desire to protect the babies. The Psyduck remained floating in mid-air due to some strange force that this...thing was exuding.

The air around the figure with the maniacal grin began to distort itself as the image of the man disappeared. A black demon fox stood in his place, still wearing that maniacal grin. He allowed the gecko to glare at him for a few seconds before his arm shot out and grabbed the grass starter by the neck. Treecko struggled, then prepared his tail for another Pound attack but the fox chose that moment to retaliate. His eyes flashed purple, and the wood gecko suddenly froze. The demon fox now released his grip on the Treecko and psychically moved him through the air until he was able to lock eyes with the gecko.

The maniacal grin on his face grew wider as his eyes flared a deep red, and your Treecko suddenly felt the urge to go to sleep right then and there. No amount of courage and loyalty to not leave your side could stop the urge, and it didn't take long until your starter's asleep. The demon fox then turned to you and waited until you tore your face away from the telescope, and...well you know the rest. The most disturbing thing? You had no fucking clue about the scuffle that took place.
Okay, here's the deal.

A Zoroark had just ambushed the lot of you while masquerading as the astrologist. He casted an illusion on the telescope so as to keep you busy while he took care of the obstacles. If you look up on the special abilities of Zoroark on Bulbapedia, it states that they can trick people and Pokemon with illusionary depictions of attacks that is so believable to a point that they can fool cameras. This is exactly what he did when he used the illusionary version of Hypnosis, but his psychic powers are real. He then did the same thing on you so that he could set forth his "little fun" plan into motion.

When you wake up, you will find yourself in a clearing, surrounded with trees with a bush here and there, with no visible way out. Again, with no explanation whatsoever, you knew that you were in the Forest of Fury even though you could not feel the hate from the trees. Should you ever check your Poketech however, it will tell you that you are in the Shooting Star Observatory. What this means is that you are in the illusionary world of the Forest of Fury that had been created by the Zoroark. Therefore, logic dictates that you find him in this illusionary world and make him undo the illusion.

How would you ever find him if you can't even get out of this clearing then? Here's a hint: not everything is as they seem. This is, after all, an illusion. You can either continue to post in this thread or post in the Forest of Fury forum; it's up to you. One more thing before I forget to mention: there is no language barrier between you and your Pokemon. This is, after all, an illusion and anything goes.

EDIT: Oh yes, and your babies are nowhere to be seen. Don't worry, they are not part of the storyline for safety purposes. The Zoroark is not that mean.

If there was any reason why Rubin wouldn't pull away from the telescope, it would be because of astonishment. The whole time he peered through the telescope, his mouth opened and closed a few times but no words came out. Being such an inquisitive child who was easily impressed, no tricks was needed to compel him to see what he views, despite how strange it was. And what he was seeing was a strange sight.

An eyebrow was raised, "The Forest of Fury?" Rubin thought to himself, glued to the eyepiece of the telescope. He did not know how he came to that conclusion; before he reached the instrument, the curious kid expected to see a sky or even stars in space, but there was a cluster of trees. He contiuned to watch and it was like a simulation, the trees drawing closer and closer to him like he was soaring into the forest canopy, and the boy could not pull away from it. Rubin dived in slowly until he reached the level of the forest ground.

"Wow!" Rubin cried out in excitement. Treecko tilted his head, watching his trainer raise his arms in the air while looking through the telescope. Rubin was standing a beautiful grove, the trees surrounding him. He took a quick moment to look around, then ahead of him, where he stared the longest. Right in front of him was a tree with a gape in its trunk like an opening. Having no thought of consequence, Rubin walked forward and into the cave mouth-like entrance. The boy was swallowed by darkness, not even speaking a single word about getting some light, but he pressed on. Shortly after entering, light appeared; Rubin, bending his head to the side while perplexed, saw a tongue of flame covering a cocoon.

"Hah?!" Rubin cried, then finally scampered away from the telescope. He stood there, looking blank for a few seconds after what he had just witnessed. The surprised boy would obviously have questions and comments, and turned to express them with Dr. Steiru with a smile on his face. Suddenly, there would only be one smile between the two of them. The astrologist (not scientist ><!) was grinning widely; Rubin had dropped his.

"What?!" Rubin's mouth dropped after his exclaimation. In front of him was not the doctor, but a demonic-looking fox. From its grin and glowing eyes, it easily gave out a wicked atmosphere that made Rubin's feelings of joy sink.

"Treecko!" He yelled, seeing his starter and even his newborn babies floating in midair. They were motionless, eye closed. Before Rubin could question the thing that was before him, the surroundings became black. Shadow enveloped Rubin for a short moment, then he returned to the grove of the Forest of the Fury. Nothing but trees and bushes were around him, which made Rubin panic. Neither his pokemon or the demon fox were no where to be found.

Feeling completely confused and helpless, Rubin began to shout around the forest,

"Hey! What's going on?! What have you done?! Who are you?!"

Just leaving a note: DF, I'm going to resume my Canon journey in Hillmoss Grasslands (and only hillmoss) and I'll wander around there until this SL is over.

I'll reply again when you come back to mod.

This is in no way a mod, just a note from myself since I'm at a loss of how to continue here. There's a couple of misunderstandings here that I probably should've mentioned earlier. 1) You still have your Pokemon with you, just that the babies are nowhere to be seen, and 2) You are not at the grove seen from the telescope. You are just in a clearing that's surrounded by a circle of trees.

You earn 0.3 :gexp2 btw. This post will be edited later with my mod when I have an idea of how to continue from this tiny mess that I unintentionally created.

"How many assholes we got on this ship anyhow?"
DF has left Legacy to pursue his gaming career and cannot finish this storyline. If you don't mind, since I'm confused about what's been happening here and what he intended, I would like to finish this in Fudd mod style.

So. In reality you are still safely in the Shooting Star observatory.
The astrologist is actually a Zoroark casting an illusion on you to make you think you are trapped in a grove in the forest of Fury.
Your baby pokemon are not part of the illusion, they're happily playing in the floor (or something similar) of the observatory with no clue that anything weird is happening.
The Zoroark is part of your illusion, and you need to find it, defeat it somehow, to get out of the illusion.
It is up to you to decide why the Zoroark is doing this to you.

Hang in there and you'll find an empty observatory with an unhatched egg. I'll let you know what kind next mod.

- Maverick gets :gexp for .2 mod. (12/9/2001: You get Legacy Points now? So, 2 LP?)

- Time's a bit limited, I'll post in the Forgotten threads after I complete this FUDD.
(12/9/2011: FUDD done)

- GOAL: Get out of the illusion by "beating" Zoroark

==========

FUDD:

Was that...a pokemon? The trainer thought to himself.

This was the first time Rubin had faced such a bizarre predicament. At first, the boy thought that he was trespassing in the Shooting Star Observatory and was going to get into some trouble, but he did not expect the current situation. Dr. Steriu, who was first believed to be a quiet astrologist who kindly gave a curious kid like Rubin the privilege to look through the SSO's amazing telescope, turned out to be really out of the ordinary. After he pulled away from the telescope, Rubin saw Steriu warp into a black two-legged fox with a bewitching grin across its snout. His partner Treecko and his new baby pokemon were seen floating around Zoroark like balloons, and in an instant they all seemed to have disappeared.

Everything around Rubin swallowed up in a flash of light. Short after, he could hear the wind blow heavily. A clear blue sky hung above his head, and a collection of low-level trees with thin trunks and trimmed ball-like bushes filled with berries encircle him. The second he stepped into Steriu's trap, Rubin was profoundly stunned and lost on an idea on what to do. His first instinct told him to look at the new area that suddenly manifested around him, which reflected the grove that he saw in the telescope.

"Hehe, I love the look on your face." Said the voice of Dr. Steriu, or rather Zoroark. His voice permeated the entire grove as an echo, and provoked Rubin into spinning in all directions to seek out the pokemon, but it was without avail. Rubin stopped, and then completely chilled. A hand with long, furred fingers fell onto his shoulder.

"You just don't know what to do with yourself, huh?" Zoroark teased. His voice came from directly behind Rubin, and the trainer screamed. He jumped forward, pulled his shoulder from the claw, and spun around to face the bewitching black fox. The pokemon grinned; he showed no remorse, staring back with blue eyes that looked so cold and regretless that it well suited its wicked appearance.

"What are you?! Why did you do this?!" Rubin asked in a panicked voice, pointing at the fox.

The fox let out a little laugh before simply answering, "I am Zoroark."

"So, you are a pokemon!" Rubin said. It was another unfamiliar pokemon to him, but the unique name and the physical form made it quite clear to the boy.

"The Malral District is where we illusion pokemon enjoy living. This city, and you humans, hinder our way of living. You just happen to stumble in on one of my illusionary traps, so now you'll have to get out." Zoroark explained wickedly, running a claw through its thick red mane.

Rubin's eyes widened and his stomach dropped. Worry began to rise in his body.

"Why?!" The young trainer cried. Now he felt like he was in a pinch, as he had no idea on how to do that. For a twelve year old to get out of an illusion? Rubin thought it was some kind of a game, and wondered if there were rules to follow. A claw pointed at the trainer and Zoroark replied back with a question,

"Do you trainers realize that we have families too? That your cities, your life of pokemon training, obstruct on how we live. You cut down trees, you reduce our homes, capture us, even our children, to make us your slaves and experiments," It explained.

As it did, Zoroark's voice became more vehement, its grin fading, "This! This destroys our bonds!"
The trainer flinched, "Hey! I'm sorry!" Rubin merely said, waving his hands in front of his face. He didn’t know what else to say, becoming instinctively scared and apologetic.

"But I hear something interesting every once in a while.” Zoroark said, "I hear you pokemon trainers have strong bonds too. Bonds with your pokemon."

Rubin lowered his hands and inhaled a breath to calm down. He then nodded his head in agreement.

"What do you think that word means, kid?" Zoroark asked.

"Well, that's--" Rubin raised a finger to answer, but the black fox pokemon restored his grin and faded out of sight.

"HEY WAIT!" Rubin cried.

"If you can give me a good answer, maybe I'll come out and let you go. Only those with a clear head can get out of my illusions, foolish human." Zoroark said with a taunting laugh.

Feeling stuck and a little upset, Rubin plopped down on the grass and folded his arms across his chest, "Darn it!" He said. His face bent in furrows; now, he was provoked to contemplate on what Zoroark asked for. At the words “A clear head”, Rubin imagined at first that the illusion was like a dream. When he did, he took out one of his pokeballs, shut his eyes, and conked himself in the head.

"OW!" The boy cried. The self-inflicted pain led Rubin nowhere but on his back. He fell on the grass and splayed out his limbs, feeling even more lost. That did not work at all, and now the boy had to think up a better plan. Minutes later, Rubin got back on his feet and slipped his hands into his pants pockets. He had never forgotten the reason why he had left his home to start on his journey, nor did he forget the joy he felt when he first chose Treecko as his partner. They immediately became loyal friends; Rubin enjoyed the body language of Treecko that made it seem like he truly understood his trainer, plus the will he showed to protect his trainer from harm, including from the guy in the blue leisure suit.

Rubin was sticking to his thoughts for too long and the lack of answer was making Zoroark a little impatient.

"Hey kid, you want to stay in here forever?" The invisible black fox said. Instead of replying, Rubin gave out a smile.

"You seem to like the idea." Zoroark sounded a little irritated, and in a blink of an eye, three rocks emerge in front of Rubin. The boy bent his head back, watching them tower above him. On each rock was a painting of a familiar pokémon. On the left rock was an image of the new baby Psyduck, on the middle rock was Treecko, and on the right rock was Spearow.

"So kid, do you have a favorite? Point it out to me." Zoroark directed.
Unexpectedly, Rubin had a lone look on his face. His eyes slowly moved from one rock painting to the other. Really wanting to get out of the illusion world, he feared that he would set a bad example, for Zoroark and for himself as a trainer, if he chose only one pokemon.

The boy shook his head and said, "I don't have a single favorite. Everyone is pretty cool." After he said that, his smile returned, and he continued, tapping his head with his finger, "Everybody is different. It's like pokemon are real human beings. They get happy and sad like we do. It'd take me a long time to talk about everybody and what they have done for me. I'm thinkin' it, but it seems like a lot."

There was a long silence. Then, a loud laugh roared through the entire illusion.

"You're rich, kid!" Zoroark said, "A little weird and tiresome, but rich."

Like there was a quake, the three rocks before Rubin began to shudder. They sank into the earth, then the entire grove began to bend and fade. Zoroark had decided, and told Rubin, that the little trainer was naive and should be spared years to learn his lesson (and to be tricked again and again with illusions in the future). He also said, however, that the kid seemed pretty nice. Many kids were, or tried to be, and Rubin gave off this idea that he could be a small exception. Humans would still deter the living of wild animals, they would still build cities and reduce wilderness, they would still capture animals to do what they pleased and so on.

Maybe Zoroark just wanted Rubin to leave and see if he was intimidated or not, or see what he would do next. The illusion began to slowly disappear, the grove melting into darkness. Still, the black fox didn't reappear.

"Did you have fun kid?" Zoroark's voice asked.

"Erm, was I supposed to?" Rubin asked back. He sounded genuinely confused.

LP: 3 :lp for post
Trust Score: 5
Rewards:
  • Rubin finds himself and his pokemon in an empty Observatory. There are no more illusions or what not, so he is free to come and go as he pleases.
  • His baby Pokemon playing with a black egg of some kind. It contains a Zorua and it will hatch in 20 posts. Perhaps it was left in his care by the Zoruark... who knows... but its Rubin's to keep should he choose to do so.

Rubin was back to reality. The first thing he saw was Treecko and his newly hatched pokemon in the middle of the lab. Perplexed, he looked around; the signature telescope was where it was, but Dr. Steriu was gone. Or rather, was he ever here? Was he Zoroark all along? Rubin wouldn't ponder on that question too long and ran towards his pokemon.

"Are you alright?!" He asked with obvious concern. The kid was in a little bit of a panic since he just came out of a ridiculous illusion, a very usual experience, after all. Treecko turned his head over to his trainer, nodded his head, then pointed to the hatchlings. Rubin looked at them; they were fine, in fact, they were cheerful.

"Huh? What's that?" Rubin asked.

Psyduck and Zubat were, apparently to Rubin, playing ball. An oval shaped item was tossed between the two. It looked black as iron; it might have been it seemed, as Rubin rushed to Psyduck, who caught the oval and began to stagger back.

"Psy yi yi!" The duck pokemon uttered its cry. Rubin moved behind her and grasped the duck before she titled backwards. Afterward, Rubin looked down at the oval for a closer inspection.

"WOW! Is that!" The rookie released Psyduck and placed his hands on the black item, raising it up to his eye level. Rubin stared at it a good while, twisted it around as if expecting to see something different about it. Was there a pattern? Or a hole? Scratches? Was something going to pop out?

But after a long enough expected, the trainer cried in excitement, "Is this an EGG?!"

And he was sure taking it!
