Frac's Platoon

Poof

You move forward 1 square.
Golem hits H4 with Earthquake. That platoon is KO'd. Thank the professor and her magic potion.
Crobats have nothing to attack.
I'm getting bored of counting stuff...
-2 DEF on H2, boosted attacks....you take out six of them there.

It turned out that co-founding a team came with responsibilities that went beyond general intra-team affairs. On this battlefield, Alex was deemed senior enough and experienced enough to lead his own platoon of nine, and the trainer had no intention of backing down now. That said, it did help somewhat that there were two lines of defence in front of him. It would give him a bit more advance warning when he executed his own plans. Everybody loves a time buffer.

The platoons in front of him were setting up and advancing through the fog, so Alex went ahead and decided to do the same. He turned his focus to Ben, his fellow Black Tesla member and squadmate, and voiced his thoughts on how best to proceed.

"We've got some time before they reach us. Might as well set up as much as possible."

Alex's pokémon were already moving, with all manner of boosting and protective measures happening between them. The army men that filled out the platoon would follow suit, their pokémon preparing themselves for whatever was out there in the fog.

~~~~~
Potential plan - move to B5, set up?
Alex:
Yin - Swords Dance (+2 Atk), Substitute (lowers HP by 2? blocks, makes a decoy with that much HP)
Sentinel - Rock Polish x2 (+4 Speed)
Dynamo - Howl (+1 Atk), Charge (doubles power of next electric attack used, +1 Sp. Def)
Army Guys:
Sneasel - Hone Claws x2 (+2 Atk, +2 Accuracy)
Lanturn - Stockpile x2 (+2 both defences until Spit Up or Swallow is used. With 2 Stockpiles, Spit Up has 200 power, and Swallow heals 50%)
Crobat - no action
Venusaur - Growth x2 (+2 Atk, +2 Sp. Atk)
Hypno - Nasty Plot x2 (+4 Sp. Atk)
Magneton - Magnet Rise (changes ability to Levitate for 5 turns)
Rhydon - no action
Machamp - Focus Energy (boosts critical hit chance)
Zangoose - Swords Dance x2 (+4 Atk)
Ben nodded a little, not about to argue with Alex's logic. He might have liked to stick with a larger group of non-strangers, but Cerb had Liz and Egrinain had drifted after them when things started divvying, and Celeste had stuck close to Steely, so he hadn't wanted to leave Alex on his own.
If he didn't want to be alone, he didn't think anyone else would be much more comfortable about it. But all the auras were a bit disconcerting. "Preparation is good, probably. Fog doesn't bother me much, compared to just about everyone else, I think...but I'm gonna stay mounted right now, anyhow. Ground cover tends to be problematic still for me, even if the fog isn't. I'll let you know if I notice anything else, at least..."
Ben patted Jax's shoulder, keeping atop her as she stretched and limbered up, prancing in place, still making faces over all the muck on her pretty white coat. Vain thing. Lancelot and Anubis set into a series of katas, the lucario taking a moment to meditate first, focusing his mind. Ben tilted his head a little, focusing as best he could on listening for anything amiss, seeing how far he could stretch out his Aura sensing abilities as well towards anything he might notice. "Don't know that it'll help, but it can't hurt to try anyhow. Jax and I might be useful scouts or something, with her speed, too. Maybe?"
Yeah, this would be one reason he quit the military. He really didn't think in terms of leading a crowd of people or anything like that. Working as a group of friends, sure, but as a commander...
That he'd leave to Floyd and Alex and everyone, yeah. Along with the guns and stuff.
Stupid opera eating my posts. Didn't take the gun and knife and stuff, so yeah. Just staying mounted on arcanine right now.
Anubis (Lucario) - Calm Mind + Swords Dance (+1 Sp.Atk, +1 Sp.Def, +2 Atk)
Lancelot (Gallade) - Swords Dance x2 (+4 Atk)
Jax (Arcanine) - Agility x2 (+4 Spd)
Trying to use good hearing and Aura sensing abilities to see if I can't spot any bad guys and following Alex's lead.
So things happened, and stuff went down. There was no full-scale combat just yet, the two armies far enough apart that all they could do was feel each other out with missiles and tank shells. Which meant that they still had time to prepare.
Alex wasn't about to waste the opportunity, so he looked back at his platoon. The heavy hitters wouldn't be needed until later, but there were some Crobats that would be perfect for scouting. Along with Yin, there were four stealthy, ultra-swift flying pokémon that could quite easily speed off ahead of the main army and do some recon. And once he knew where the enemy was, he could leave a little welcome gift for them.
"Okay. Crobats, scout ahead. Yin, go with them. Do not engage. Sentinel, follow behind, set up a Stealth Rock directly ahead of us. If we keep behind it, we force them to come to us." And start off any combat at a disadvantage. Or so went the theory.
A few radio messages to the other platoons to let them know what he was planning, and the pokémon sprang into action. Everyone else hung back, still preparing themselves for battle.
~~~~~

Alex:

Yin - scouting H2
Sentinel - Stealth Rock @ H5
Dynamo - Howl (+1 Atk)

Army Guys:

Sneasel - Hone Claws (+1 Atk, +1 Accuracy)
Lanturn - Stockpile (+1 both defences until Spit Up or Swallow is used. With 2 Stockpiles, Spit Up has 200 power, and Swallow heals 50%)
Crobat - scouting H1, H3, H5
Venusaur - Growth (+1 Atk, +1 Sp. Atk)
Hypno - Nasty Plot (+2 Sp. Atk)
Magneton - standing by
Rhydon - standing by
Machamp - standing by
Zangoose - Swords Dance (+2 Atk)

With people in front of them, no fliers, and really not a whole lot else to do, Ben just kept out of the way for the most part, listening to Alex's strategy and letting his pokemon continue preparing for what might come at them. "I can play a pretty good decoy, too, if that helps any. Lance can Teleport and use Protect as well. Jax also knows Protect, and Anubis has Detect and Endure," he commented quietly. Anubis also has Fast Guard as of the latest Gen, but that's a complicated thing and I don't know if pokemon are supposed to have their new toys here yet.

But it could be handy. We'll see.

As the fliers flittered off with Sentinel tromping along behind, Ben frowned a little, listening to all the chatter and orders and so forth. He had a pretty good ear, and thought he caught a familiar voice asking for a Sunny Day. He frowned a bit, mulling over what they had present, and shrugged a little. He and Jax were currently just standing around staring at fog (at least in the canine's case, he wasn't staring at anything himself), and it would be SOMETHING he could do.

"Sounds like Cerb could use a Sunny Day. Jax knows that trick. We'll be there and back in no time at all, unless you think it's a bad idea." Ben waited a moment to see if Alex objected, or had any better ideas, before leaning down to pat Jax's shoulder and grab hold, focusing through the crowd of Auras, hunting for the familiar trio of Liz, Egrinain and Cerby, holding tight to the arcanine as she wove through the assembled masses. "Over there...Cerb! Special delivery!" He waved to the ladies as Jax skidded to a halt nearby, throwing her head back and calling up a surge of warmth and brightness for the group. "Hope it helps..." he added as Jax wheeled and retraced her path back to Alex and the others.

Presuming this is possible, anyhow. If it isn't...well. Uh...yeah.

Jax Sunny Day @B2 for Cerb (if possible)
Lancelot Swords Dance (+2 Atk
Anubis Calm Mind (+1 Sp.Atk, +1 Sp.Def)

And now they were at the stage of war where everything devolved into chaos. Alex listened to the reports from the other trooops and the various scouting parties, and determined that the oppposing forces were advancing. Obviously. Which meant that it would probably be a good idea to send pokémon slightly ahead of the Jgsei front line in anticipation of an attack. A few earthquakes here, some other assorted strikes there, and anything that ventured too far would get severel dented. Or that was the plan, anyway.

~~~~~
Alex:
Yin (+2 Atk) - Substitute (HP goes down by 1/4 of max, makes a decoy with that much HP that takes all attacks for Yin until it breaks)
Sentinel (+2 Speed) - Earthquake (ground, power 100, hits everything in range) @ H4
Dynamo (+2 Atk) - Howl (+1 Atk)
Army Guys:
Sneasel x3 (+2 Atk, +2 Acc) - Ice Shard (ice, physical, 40 power, attacks first) @ H3
Lanturn x3 (Stockpiled 2) - Hydro Pump (water, special, 120 power, 80% accuracy) @ H3
Crobat x3 - Acrobatics (flying, physical, 55 power, power doubles if not holding an item) @ H4
Venusaur (+2 Atk, +2 Sp. Atk) - Razor Leaf (grass, physical, 55 power, 95% accuracy, high crit chance) @ H3
Hypno (+4 Sp. Atk) - Psyshock (psychic, special, 80 power, damage based on opponent's physical defence stat) @ H2
Magneton (Magnet Rise 2/5) - Screech (85% accuracy, -2 Def of opponent) @ H2
Rhydon - Stone Edge (rock, physical, 100 power, 80% accuracy, high crit chance) @ H2
Machamp (+1 crit) - Cross Chop (fighting, physical, 100 power, 80% accuracy, high crit chance) @ H3
Zangoose (+4 Atk) - X-Scissor (bug, physical, 80 power) @ H2
Well, this was kind of...yeah. Jax skidded to a halt near Alex, prancing a little, making faces at all the mud splattered on her legs and belly now. Vain, fastidious creature. There didn't seem a whole lot to be done in general for the moment that he could tell. He could hear the explosions, wincing at the missile being stopped by the shield, and another one in the distance somewhere, being fired.
That was a little worrisome in general, but there really wasn't too much he could do and Cerby was already calling out for one of their tanks to handle it. Still... "Anubis..."
"On it!" The lucario gathered a sphere of energy to hurl to intercept the missile, just in case the tank's aim was off and so forth. So they were paranoid.
Otherwise... Ben sighed faintly. "Lance, help Sentinel. Jax...you help the Sneasels, if you can. Or at least some of 'em." The knight rolled his eyes, but followed after the golem, keeping safely out of range as he empowered the trembling of the earth, and Jax barked encouragingly to the dark weasels.
Jax: Helping Hand Sneasel(s)
Lancelot: Helping Hand Sentinel
Anubis: Aura Sphere @ incoming missile
2 Mav Points (I think. Dunno if what I did was accounted for because it didn't get put into the main thread before things got locked, but I posted...)
3 :exp for spending whenever.
.4 :gexp
As a side note, I'm starting to feel amazingly like I'm in a game of Space Invaders here. n.n;
Well, bugger. Not the best time to be without his diggers. There was a slim possibility that Lance might be able to take the tank and Teleport it out of the mud it was stuck in, but even the HM variant could usually only get two people. A tank was pushing it. So really, there wasn't much he could do there, and most of the frogs and moles were popping up in the middle of other platoons, so he wasn't going to end up causing friendly fire accidents there if he could avoid it. And they should be able to handle things.
So really, he wasn't sure what to do. More missiles were incoming, but he was having a hard time tracking them down as it were at this point with all the chaos. However, he did have a team that was well suited to dealing with the ice creatures. At least, one could hope. He slid at last from the white hound's shoulders and squelched into the mud beside Alex. "I'm gonna sent Jax to help Cerb with that one cryogonal, and get Lance and Anubis to try taking out the other, unless you got a better idea for my team..." he commented, tilting his head to the side. Alex was the genius, though, so he wasn't going to assume just yet that there wasn't a better idea in the offing.
"Lance can shatter any barriers it's got up, and Anubis can blast it after, likely. And of course, fire and ice never mix well..." he took a step back, a little uneasy at not being mounted at this point, but there was no help for it. He wasn't immune to fire, and so it would be a rather bad idea to remain aboard a canine that was about to start on self-immolation.
Current plan for team unless Frac/Alex has better idea.
Jax: +2 Spd; Flare Blitz @ sleeping Cryogonal in G6
Lancelot: +4 Atk; Brick Break (breaks Light Screen/Reflect) @ F1 (trying to intercept Cryogonal currently in G1)
Anubis: +2 Sp.Atk, +2 Sp.Def; Focus Blast @ F1, holding back until Lancelot gets his attack in
With all the platoons in front of them busy dealing with rogue moles and frogs and missiles, Alex kept his focus on the advancing enemy lines. From the scouting reports, they were no longer even, thanks in no small part to Sentinel's bombardments of mass destruction on their side of the battlefield. Which meant that the opposite side was more advanced, and if the zebras were anything like their counterparts on the 4 and 5 columns, they would probably not enjoy the same tactic of direct brutality from before. Hey, it worked.
"Good idea," Alex said to Ben as the other trainer outlined his plans for his own pokémon. "I'll send the Machamp to back you up. Everyone else is going to try and slow down the front lines."
It was the best use of their platoon at the moment. Ben's team was perfectly suited to take on ice pokémon, while the platoons ahead of him could handle the missiles. He radioed around to divert non-fliers away from his intended earthquake target, then sent Sentinel in to smash some more faces. The rest of the platoon followed suit.
~~~~~

Alex:

Yin (Ninjask) (7/10 HP) (+2 Atk, Substitute has 3/3 HP) - X-Scissor (bug, physical, power 80) @ G3
Sentinel (Golem) (+2 Speed) - Earthquake (ground, physical, power 100, hits everything in range) @ G3
Dynamo (Manectric) (Static) (+3 Atk) - Bite (dark, physical, power 60, 30% flinch chance) @ G2

Ben:

Jax: +2 Spd; Flare Blitz (fire, physical, power 120, causes 1/3 recoil, 10% burn chance) @ sleeping Cryogonal in G6
Lancelot: +4 Atk; Brick Break (fighting, physical, 75 power, breaks Light Screen/Reflect) @ F1 (trying to intercept Cryogonal currently in G1)
Anubis: +2 Sp.Atk, +2 Sp.Def; Focus Blast (fighting, special, 120 power, 70% accuracy) @ F1, holding back until Lancelot gets his attack in

Army Guys:

Blue:

Sneasel x3 (+2 Atk, +2 Acc) - Ice Shard (ice, physical, 40 power, attacks first) @ G2

Magneton x2 (Magnet Rise 3/5) - Screech (85% accuracy, -2 Def of opponent) @ G3

Green:

Rhydon x2 - Stone Edge (rock, physical, 100 power, 80% accuracy, high crit chance) @ H4

The Cryogonal were down, and the Jgsei fortress became visible. At last. This was clearly a critical moment in the battle, so the Opaddekan armies' next attacks had to be co-ordinated with... well, with military precision.

Alex got on the radio to start organising. His platoon was going to continue targetting the front lines, just to stop them advancing too far. Earthquakers and any pokémon that ignored them would form a wall of destruction, or at least a roadblock. The birds on the outside would take some clips of electricity, while everything else could head through the gap in the opposing army to attack the fortress itself. With a bit of organisation, and a bit more luck, they could win this battle.

Alex:

Yin (Ninjask) (7/10 HP) (+2 Atk, Substitute has 3/3 HP) - X-Scissor (bug, physical, power 80) @ G5
Sentinel (Golem) (+2 Speed) - Stone Edge (rock, physical, power 100, 80% accuracy, high crit chance) @ G6
Dynamo (Manectric) (Static) (9/10 HP) (+3 Atk) - Spark (electric, physical, power 65, 30% flinch chance) @ G6

Ben:

Jax: +2 Spd;
Lancelot: +4 Atk;
Anubis: +2 Sp.Atk, +2 Sp.Def;

Army Guys:

Blue:

Sneasel x3 (9/10 HP) (+2 Atk, +2 Acc) - Ice Shard (ice, physical, 40 power, attacks first) @ Fortress
Lanturn x3 (Volt Absorb) (Stockpiled 2) - Discharge (electric, special, 80 power, hits everything in range) @ G6
Crobat x3 - Cross Poison (poison, physical, 70 power, high crit chance, 10% poison chance) @ G4

Red:

Venusaur x2 (+2 Atk, +2 Sp. Atk) - Razor Leaf (grass, physical, 55 power, 95% accuracy, high crit chance) @ Fortress
Hypno x2 (+4 Sp. Atk) - Psyshock (psychic, special, 80 power, damage based on opponent's physical defence stat) @ Fortress
Magneton x2 (Magnet Rise 4/5) - Tri Attack (normal, special, 80 power, 20% chance of burn/paralysis/freeze) @ G5

Green:

Rhydon x2 (Lightningrod) - Earthquake (ground, physical, power 100, hits everything in range) - one on G4, one on G5
Machamp x2 (+1 crit) - Cross Chop (fighting, physical, 100 power, 80% accuracy, high crit chance) @ Fortress
Zangoose x2 (+4 Atk) - X-Scissor (bug, physical, 80 power) @ Fortress

So, uh. Yeah.

Ben flinched back, ducking away from the blinking explosion, though unlike pretty much everyone else, he was covering his ears as he winced, the only person on the field to not see the blinding light, despite Mav's moderation's words. But a blind guy is always an exception to those rules.

But still, the concussive explosion was deafening, painfully so, to someone who used that as one of two primary replacement to their eyes. "Kh..." Ben shook his head bemusedly, more than a little stunned and deafened for a few moments by the event. He shook his head, trying to clear it, as Frac took charge of the situation, working to co-ordinate absolutely EVERYTHING at this point.

It was just a demonstration of his exceptional intellect once more. A quite impressive one, and somewhat daunting, even for a friend, in a situation like this. Ben buried one hand in Jax's fur as the muddy white hound skidded to a halt beside him, a warm, comforting bulk and aura. Anubis and Lancelot weren't far behind, the lucario flanking his other side while the gallade remained slightly aloof still.

"Er...should I attack the fortress, then, or the troops? Fortress, I suspect..." His pokemon couldn't fly and didn't really have much good against birds. Assuming they'd survive the Earthquakes, two of them being weak to said element. Ben flinched a little at the pair of distant *WHUMPH* sounds that heralded more incoming missiles. "Or, uh, get the missiles? Lance can try and take a leg off the fortress maybe while Jax and Anubis do that?"

Ben waited for Frac's opinion, bracing himself uneasily. The decimation of the platoon was...unsettling to say the least, even if he knew no one in it. And one of those missiles was headed in their general direction. Sure they were still under the shield, but having several pokemon with Protect and Detect, he knew how fleeting such could potentially be...he was going to deal with that one as best he could no matter what. And besides. If a Rain Dance did get set up near the Fortress, that'd cripple Jax anyhow.

Tentative thoughts #1:
Lancelot (+4 ATK, holding Fist Plate): Close Combat (120 atk, 100 acc, physical Fighting, drops def and sp.def one stage) @ Fortress-thing's right rear leg
Anubis (+2 SP.ATK, +2 SP.DEF): Aura Sphere (90 atk, special Fighting, never misses) @ missile in column 5
Jax (+2 SPD, holding Charcoal/Dragon Plate): Dragon Pulse (90 atk, 100 acc, special Dragon) @ missile in column 1

Tentative thoughts #2:
Lancelot (+4 ATK, holding Fist Plate): Close Combat (120 atk, 100 acc, physical Fighting, drops def and sp.def one stage) @ Fortress-thing's right rear leg
Anubis (+2 SP.ATK, +2 SP.DEF): Dark Pulse (80 atk, 100 acc, special Dark, 15% flinch chance) @ Fortress thing's main body
Jax (+2 SPD, holding Charcoal/Dragon Plate): Dragon Pulse (90 atk, 100 acc, specia Dragonl) @ missile in column 5

I'm not sure which is the better idea, really...

(( You deserve like 10 XP at least for all the modding of this, Mav. <3 ))

Ben cringed slightly, listening as the missiles were dealt with, the fortress mauled, their troops mangled a bit more as much as theirs, and the latest volley made even more of a mess of everyone. "War sucks." The comment was muttered under his breath, entirely to himself, hating all this chaos, death, destruction and madness.

He rubbed his temples, trying to shut out the auras everywhere, vague jags of pain and fierce determination beating against that othersense. And then (I think) came the angry elite's voice crackling thickly across the channels. "..." Ben had no real comment about the blast at people being transported here, but it struck him as rather unfair. He was an Opadekkan native, but many of those he callled friend had been sucked across the portal, and all he'd heard about it indicated it wasn't like they'd been given a choice in the matter.

But apparently this wasn't the time for it. Lancelot staggered back, half collapsing beside him, coughing up blood from getting a flailing piece of the monstrosity to the chest. Ben knelt beside the warrior, trying to check his condition, then came the order to retreat. And the world tilted for a moment, sending the gallade and human crashing into a pile in the dirt. Ben hastily recalled the psychic warrior, not wanting any more damage, as Anubis crouched, snarling, a few feet away, bracing against the temblor, and Jax lowered her head, her four legs giving her enough stability to keep on them as things settled.

They were dead, but still...Ben struggled to his feet once more, staggering over to latch onto Jax and throw himself aboard. He hesitated a little. He could run for it, but there was something that occurred to him. If he saved his own tail and left Alex behind, survival wasn't going to last long. He wasn't sure what he could do about the troops, but probably Floyd had a few more bits of air support and another helicopter or three for that, and freeing up the space the two of them would take aboard one should help, shouldn't it?

All this took but an instant to process, and when it really boiled down to two thoughts in the end: 'Steely will kill me if I don't grab Alex and get him out of here' and 'I'm sure Floyd has more effective ways to save his troops than I ever would.'

Trust in your friends, right? Even if it was trusting they'd kill you if you did or didn't do something. "Alex, get on, now!" If the tall trainer wasn't going to listen, Anubis was ready to hurl him aboard the muddy white hound despite any protests. She was already shifting in place, enhancing her own abilities further, whining uneasily.

They might not totally bolt immediately, but he'd rather have the psychic aboard for the point where it came to testing if an arcanine could outrun a tsunami than have to try and yank him aboard when the wave was already coming in. They could try to help evac the troops just as well mounted as not, after all.

Lance is recalled for the moment, since he got mauled by the flailing nuclear fortress.
Anubis is gonna throw Alex onto Jax if he tries to argue about getting aboard, and make ready to book (Extremespeed) out of dodge.
Jax (+2 SPD) is making ready to run herself (Agility and/or Extremespeed), though she'll stick with their troops for the moment or something.

RUN AWAY! (Personal notes: 1.4 :gexp , 3 :exp , 5 Mav Points overall.)

Ben's existential musings on the ultimate futility of war, on a different day, would have perhaps struck a chord with Alex. As it was, he was far too busy watching the Jgsei fortress topple over to reflect on the horrors of man's brutality towards man. His thoughts consisted mainly of the word, finally. As in, finally, we can finish up this mess and have things go back to the way they were. Sort of.

Relief was the order of the day, and not even an elite's sweeping xenophobia (as a transdimensional refugee himself, the comment stung more than it would have anyone else in the platoon) could bring Alex down from the high of impending victory. It was only later into Gom's rant that the awful consequences of taking down the fortress became apparent.

"Nuclear?" The trainer said, not liking where his train of thought was taking him one bit. If there was a nuclear reactor in that thing, and they'd destroyed its cooling mechanisms, then they had a matter of minutes to get out of the blast radius before the entire valley turned into a radioactive wasteland. To say that was a non-ideal scenario would be an understatement.

Alex recalled Sentinel and Dynamo. He had to evacuate, and that meant leading the rest of the platton out of the valley as quickly as possible. There was some aerial support around to pick up those on foot, but they still needed to make themselves visible. That was where Yin came in. The Ninjask hovered above the platoon, serving as a living beacon for any transport that may have been looking.

Then Ben turned up on Jax. Alex needed no second invitation, hauling himself onto the Arcanine and grabbing onto Ben's waist for support. Yin remained with the platoon as an escort. Even if the worst happened, the Ninjask could definitely outrun a tsunami.

Yin stays with the troops, everyone else recalled.
Alex gets on board Jax.
