Greenhouse Axew Egg - 5/15 ~~~~~ Alex had returned to the dense foliage and the ancient wisdom of the Primeval Forest. Thanks to his previous visit here with Steely, he had some idea of what to expect with regards to the local wildlife, but that was in the far south of the forest. This time, he was exploring the northern edge, and up at this latitude it was considerably cooler - even for the middle of spring, it wasn't too warm to be wearing his parka. Probably not the best of signs, considering that his travels would be taking him much farther north, but he'd worry about that when he got to Slumber. For now, he had some pokémon to find. And the first pokémon on his list was right here in the forest. "Okay, we're looking for an Eevee." One that's not related to Zelda, I take it? Guru asked, idly fiddling with the Life Orb around his neck. Alex nodded. "Nothing wrong with a bit of diversity. Besides, Glaceon's on my list, remember?" Ah, the list. Some time ago, Alex had set out to build a number of teams. One for each of the 17 known elemental types, in fact. Naturally, this required a large number of pokémon - even with the fifty-something he already had, there were still over a dozen gaps to fill. That was the main reason he'd come back to Phaldan Island, to fill in some gaps. If he persevered and looked hard enough, then he could finish off his team of ice-types before he headed back to warmer climes. One such ice-type was Glaceon. As luck would have it, there were a couple of rocks just north of here that had the power to evolve Eevees that trained near it. Ice Rock, the northernmost of the two, would evolve Eevee into Glaceon, while Moss Rock yielded Leafeon. And as luck would have it some more, Eevee could be found in the forest, if fortune was on your side. Say, isn't Zelda from the Primeval Forest? Guru noted. "Yep. That's how I know we're in the right place." What's the betting we run into some more relatives of hers? You have to admit, the irony would be delicious. "Funny. You know what to do." Keep an eye out for trouble, filter out the non-Eevee mental signatures, point you in the right direction. Got it. And so they got to searching. ~~~~~ Route: Thick Forest 2 - Moss Rock Searching for an Eevee. |

0.3 ![]() Stage one is going to be amusing. Believe me. For example, the searching would in fact take you to an Eevee. By nature, Eevees are short, cute and fluffy, which makes you want to hug their rat-hamster-gerbil-kitty asses. They are cute and you will all hail the hypnoto- Eevee. Whoops, forgot I wasn't under mind control this time. Anyway. Point being, it's an Eevee, you wanna naturally give it some love, yeah? What if this Eevee was an asshole that was kicking some serious ass? Not so cute now, is it? Three Scythers - two on the ground unconscious, a third bleeding and wounded - and an Eevee, blood all over its claws and snarling, having obviously put some serious gashes in all three of these bugs. Without any shadow of a doubt it was this angry-looking little Eevee, standing in a forest clearing on top of a stump, that had cut these normally rage-fuelled sword-bugs. When a Scyther is scared of a cute and cuddly Eevee, you know it's not so cute and cuddly any more. Then, it looked at Alex, and it didn't look happy. Actually, that was putitng it nicely - it looked absolutely pissed off and ready to kill someone. Preferably now. So here's the problem. Wounded Scythers, angry Eevee, potentially dead you because you're next. Uh-oh. ![]() 42 126/126Angry! ![]() 40 12/120Wounded! |

(0.3 )Greenhouse Axew Egg - 6/15 ~~~~~ Oh my. Guru said as he took in the scene. "Found what we're looking for?" Alex asked, brushing a stray branch out of his field of vision. If we're looking for a foul-tempered Eevee that's laying waste to multiple Scythers, then yes. I suspect that this is what happens to an Eevee if you feed them after midnight. Alex caught up to the psychic, and took in the scene of utter carnage with a raised eyebrow. "Oh my." That's what I said. Guru flicked his moustache. What's the plan of attack? Readying a pokéball, Alex nodded towards the injured Scyther. "You try and keep the Scyther out of the way. If he gets aggressive, shut him down. Gently. Faraday can handle the Eevee." A toss of the pokéball and a flash of light revealed the Magneton that Alex had brought with him for this excursion. The metallic creature hovered in place, patiently waiting for instructions. "Faraday, your target's the Eevee. Thunder Wave and Discharge. Leave it standing." Faraday sounded an affirmation, then let loose with two bursts of electricity. One to debilitate, one to weaken. Sure, the little fuzzball had just mauled three ninja swordbugs, but they were squishy. Faraday, on the other hand, was literally made of steel magnets. Much more difficult to chew through those. Meanwhile, Guru kept an eye on the Scyther. With any luck, it would take the hint and retreat to a safe place. But if it didn't, or tried to attack anyone? Brainrape. But gentle brainrape. After all this was done, Alex readied a handy Friend Ball for throwing at the Eevee. They weren't the most effective of balls, but they did help to ease the transition for a newly-captured pokémon. ~~~~~ "Faraday" 46 - 138/138 ![]() Sturdy ~ Thunder Wave, Discharge (not to faint) Vs. ![]() 42 126/126Angry! 0.3 ![]() Zap! And the Eevee was paralyzed. The little critter set down on her front paws, looking up all of a sudden at the stupid human and his little entourage who had decided to encroach on her playtime. And you never got in the way of playtime and lived to tell the tale. The Alakazam was rather busy reassuring the Scyther, who now looked up with a ray of hope. Would it survive this? The answer... sadly... was no. Despite Alex's warning, he'd overlooked a simple factor: Discharge was a massive strike that hit everything. First, the Scyther - the poor thing was so weak that it couldn't take the shock, and it fainted from the electrical power. It was a shame, but these kinds of things happened - it lost consciousness on the thought, simply, that it had a chance of making it out of this one. Damn humans. Then there was Guru. Guru took a fairly big hit - but the worst of it was that Alex had paralyzed his own ally in his decision to use Discharge. That probably wouldn't go down well any time soon. Finally, the Eevee took the hit. Of course, it was doing well, until that happened; the shock was enough to set her straight for the ball to fly through the air and snatch it up. Hurt and unable to fight back well due to its paralysis, the ball stopped moving a few seconds later. That worked. But be careful of the wrath of an angry psychic there, Alex. (0.3 )Greenhouse Auto-picking 2-4 berries from all trees. Axew Egg - 7/15 ~~~~~ After all the carnage had ended, Guru swivelled around, static-frazzled moustache twitching furiously as he gave Alex an annoyed glare. What the hell was that? The trainer had the decency to look sheepish. In all the excitement of finding an Eevee and attempting to capture it, he had completely forgotten the spreading nature of the move Discharge. "Oops?" Guru was incredulous. Oops? OOPS? You just had magnet brain over there fry a Scyther, and cripple me in the process, and all you have to say for yourself is "oops"?! I could've been killed! The psychic raised a spoon and pointed it at Alex. This act of recklessness shall not be forgiven easily, oh no. You'll have to work long and hard, and slowly earn my- "Would you like a cookie?" Alex held out a Lava Cookie that he had retrieved from his backpack. Guru paused for a moment, then snatched the delicious treat with glee, chomping it down to get rid of the pesky lingering paralysis. He then patched up the worst of his injuries with a quick Recover. Okay, all is forgiven. Crisis averted, Alex gave Faraday a once-over. Satisfied that the Magneton was unharmed, he recalled the electric pokémon, and brought out the far less threatening Penny. A trip of the Friend Ball he'd just used heralded the reappearance of the newly-captured Eevee, who did not look best pleased. Alex armed himself with another cookie, and approached with cautious friendliness. "Sorry about that. I prefer diplomacy when recruiting, but the whole Scyther carnage thing." He offered the Eevee the cookie. "Eat this. It'll get rid of the paralysis." The Eevee nibbled cautiously at the cookie, then quickened her eating a bit once she was satisfied with the taste. Penny tended to her injuries with some of her medicinal egg, while Alex rummaged around for a Watmel from his stash to offer to the pokémon. Eevee attacked the berry somewhat more vigorously while Alex talked to her. "So I'm Alex. The reason I caught you was because I want you to travel with me. You like fighting, right? Well, back on my ranch there's a whole bunch of pokémon who'd love to spar with you. Strong ones, too." He paused, thinking about where he was headed. "Do you know the rocks north of here? Well, what do you say we head up to the ice rock and evolve you into a Glaceon? If you think you're strong now, just wait until you evolve." The Eevee gave him a nonchalant, "Vee." Evolution did sound like fun, as did being able to shoot ice. And the man had just given her some tasty snacks. Perhaps he deserved a chance. "I'll let you know when we get there, okay?" Alex recalled the Eevee, and set about navigating the forest. Ice Rock to the north was the next destination, then he would be one step closer to completing his pokémon army. That didn't make him sound like a manaical dictator at all. ~~~~~ Lava Cookie, Watmel to Eevee. (+3 )Lava Cookie to Guru. Guru Recovers. (95/114) Penny Softboiled'd Eevee to full health. 0.3 ![]() Now that all was well with the world (hopefully well enough that nothing else decided to turn around and kill you), some berries decided to appear. Three Watmels, two Lums and four Custaps, to be precise! These were all very good berries and probably fit for human consumption if you got desperate. Let's look at something else. Like, um, walking. Walking is good, right? The natural order of things demanded that you walk through the forest to find some more critters to recruit to your ever-growing army. That, sadly, was a necessary part of this whole 'Pokémon trainer' thing, where you had to wade through all kinds of crap to find one crippled little creature in the hopes that, when it evolves, it becomes some epic, god-slaying badass that rains fire and death down on its foes or something. Unfortunately, nothing like that was happening right now. Actually, everything was fairly calm after that little incident... probably because the Eevee had scared everything off. Stupid Eevee, being terrifying and cute at the same time. You can't blame it. Either way, there was a large rock in front of you. It has moss on it. Guess what it is. You have reached Moss Rock. |

(0.2 )Greenhouse Axew Egg - 8/15 ~~~~~ Soon enough, the party reached Moss Rock, right at the northern edge of the forest. Which meant that Ice Rock was just a short way ahead of them, and so it wouldn't be long before Alex could evolve the Eevee he'd just caught. I feel it only prudent to point this out, Guru said, as the two of them took in the sight of the rock in front of them, But you do remember what our little fuzzball friend did to those Scyther? Is it really a good idea to give her the ability to flashfreeze anything that sufficiently annoys her? "I'm sure it'll be fine." Alex replied. "Once she's gotten used to the pokémon at the ranch, there won't be any trouble. Besides, there are plenty of pokémon there to stop her getting out of line." Guru shrugged. You're the boss. So do we have any more business in this forest? Alex pulled out his Control Hub, and fiddled with a few buttons. "Just one more thing. You know the reports of Jgsei pokémon cropping up everywhere? Well, there's one in particular that caught my eye, that it turns out can be found right here in this forest." He pulled up a report on the hub, and showed Guru a picture of a yellow mite creature. "It's called Joltik. It's an electric bug critter that apparently feeds on static charge." Adorable. Guru said dryly. "They're tiny things, so we'll probably need to search carefully for it." Alex's task hadn't been made easy by the Eevee's antics earlier. Everything was probably hiding. I take it this is where Faraday comes in? "That's the plan." Alex tripped a pokéball to release the Magneton, who hovered patiently in place while Alex explained what was going on. The electric pokémon then started to trawl the undergrowth for signs of electricity-eating mini-spiders, sending out weak pulses of electricity as bait. With any luck, other pokémon wouldn't want to go near Faraday, and Alex wouldn't have to sift through a mountain of unwanted wildlife. One could only hope. ~~~~~ Location: Moss Rock Searching for Joltik. |

0.3 ![]() All of a sudden, there was a really weird sound. It was like... chittering. Sort of like how you'd expect a rat to sound were it to suddenly grow five feet long and have some vague approximation of speech, and I don't mean the Pokémon kind of speech. It also sounded a little like running feet. Yes, a very weird sound, all in all. Then Faraday would find something attached to one of his eye-head-things, right after a yellow blur moved through the air. The Magneton had a yellow thing on his back, and it was good - this, of course, is a Joltik. The creature had been hiding under a rock, and as a Joltik does, it got distracted by the tasty tasty electricity being produced by the shiny thing. So, it scurried all sneaky-like up onto the moss rock, then jumped right onto the Magneton's back and latched on in the hopes that it would obtain more tasty electrofood. And who doesn't like electrofood, really? Surely it's on the top of your diet. ...It's not? Oh, uh. I'll just go over here now. Anyways, there's a Joltik. It's all trying to hold on to Faraday as best as it can. You may want to do something about that. ![]() 40 120/120on Faraday |

(0.2 )Greenhouse Axew Egg - 9/15 Eevee Watmel cooldown - 2/10 ~~~~~ I believe Faraday's found something. Sure enough, the Magneton floated back over to Alex with an electric bug on its head. The trawling tactic had worked perfectly, so now all that was left to do was win the little spider over. Faraday adjusted his hovering height so that the Joltik was at Alex's eye level. "Hi. I'm Alex." The trick with these sales pitches was to find what the pokémon wanted, and to play to those desires. For pokémon that liked fighting, such as the Eevee, promise them sparring partners and power. For those like Anarch, with rage issues, offer more power and the chance of sticking it to those that mocked them. And for the electrovores of the world... "You like electricity, huh? Tell you what, little fella. Would you like to join up with us? There's lots more electricity where that came from, and I'm sure that my pokémon wouldn't mind you having some of it." Faraday sounded an agreement. The voltage siphoning process didn't hurt at all. It tickled slightly, but that was about it. "If you want to come along," Alex said, producing an empty Luxury Ball from his bag and holding it close, "Just tap on this. Don't worry, it's perfectly safe." It suddenly occurred to Alex that Steely happened to exude electricity in great quantities. That was going to be a fun meeting. ~~~~~ ![]() 40 120/120on Faraday *sales pitch, Luxury Ball offered* |

.3 Two pairs of eye turned to Alex and the electric spider tilted its head. He glanced at the ball and then back at the electric generator he was sitting on. But what about his electricity right now? He looooved him some electricity. The human promised more though. Well. There was either stand out here where its unlikely he'll get a big source like this again, or poke that little ball thing and get all the electricity he wanted. Decisions... decisions... Unfortunately for him (and quite possibly fortunate for you) he slipped on Faraday's body and all but slid into the Luxury Ball. He was sucked in and the ball shook in your hand a few times before clicking. CONGRATS. This rather electricity high junky Joltik is now yours. Carry on. YOU ACQUIRE ![]() 40 120/120 |

(0.2 )Greenhouse Axew Egg - 10/15 Eevee Watmel cooldown - 3/10 ~~~~~ That would do quite nicely. The Luxury ball was quickly registered to the little bug, and it zipped off to the ranch to frolic and be merry with the hundreds of other pokémon there. It made it much easier on the conscience, knowing that any pokémon Alex caught in the future would live on a ranch instead of languishing in stasis. Flux should like that one. Guru noted, as Alex recalled Faraday and got ready to head off again. That is, if she gets over the unexpected role reversal. "What, you think she'll have her own fanboy for a change?" You saw how it was all over Faraday. Just saying. Alex smiled and shook his head. "Anyway. I think we're done here. Quick stop at Ice Rock, then we can keep heading north." And so on they carried. There were more pokémon to be caught and evolved in the near future. ~~~~~ Route: Moss Rock - Ice Rock |

0.2 ![]() You continue north, making your way to the border of the Primeval Forest. Well, I say border - the Primeval and Frosted Forest are really one and the same - the only difference is that one end is both high enough and far enough north to get snow. The cool of the shaded undergrowth turns to a chill, and occasional patches of ice can be seen, tucked in between the tree roots where the sun can't reach. Eventually, the ground becomes covered in a light dusting of snow, which gradually grows in thickness until you can hear the crunch of the frozen grass underfoot. The trees are now taking on that fairytale icing look that you see in all the christmas cards, what little sunlight streams through the branches is thrown back up by the blanket of snow, making the Frosted Forest much brighter than the trees to the south. Finally, after a half-dozen miles of trekking, you come into a clearing, and see before you a great, boulder, covered in ice, that seems to almost radiate cold.
