Sometimes, drastic measures had to be taken. Plans had been drafted, checked along with experts, submitted to superior officers for approval, sent back down the chain of command for modifications, then back up. This process was a long and time-honoured one in the military; everything had to be perfect before one's commanding officer could pass judgement on it and allow its passage. Naturally, this was a frustrating process. However, the results were worth it in the end. The Jade Falcon-class frigate was a work of art, Albion Marius thought to himself. Admittedly, the technical specs and exact design had not been worked out, but much of it had been dreamed up by the OME technicians assigned to the project. And if all went well, then... Albion's dream of a vessel would be realised. And he its captain. Of course, as part of the new deal struck with Vanishing Point, Incorporated, they had to be its designers. Why? Because that was how it was. To a grunt like Albion, he was allowed to question them in his few private moments but would not argue it. Needless to say, the squire would be waiting anxiously for the vessel's completion. Either way, he'd sent a note to Vanishing Point with his name and a meeting time, as well as the brief technical specifications of the Jade Falcon. As the first ship of the line, it would bear the name of the class - and the rest would be named accordingly. It was a combination luxury ship and warship - it was designed for extremely long cruises and living. It was a mobile home for the commander and his chosen personnel. And most of all, it was a mighty warship, sailing the seas and protecting them from the pirates and terrorists that threatened Opaddeka's waters, all under the aegis of the OME. Either way - Albion waited in his uniform, the folder under his arm. Sure, he'd sent the same thing to VP, but a copy for himself was also good. Jade Falcon-class Frigate - Technical Overview Length: 88.00 m (289) Beam: 12.6 m (422) Draft (Keel up): 6 m (197) Draft (Keel down): 11 m (36) Speed: Max 38.5 kts Range @15 knots: 3,000 miles Delivered: April 2006 Number of Crew: 16 (+4) Number of Passengers: 12 Tenders: 2x 24' Tender inboard bow, 2x jet-ski w/rear winch Communications: 2x SatCom terminal, FleetCom, SatC, VSAT, Wireless Internet Weaponry: 2x M242 25mm chain-fed naval autocannon; 1 bow, 1 stern, fully turreted and indexable, crew-served or optionally cockpit slaved Notes: Design to include fully-equipped modern living quarters for all crew and passengers, including amenities and recreation. Albion couldn't even wrap his head around half of that. He hoped they could. Edited by Kirin, Mar 29 2011, 11:31 PM.

0.2 ![]() Poktechopia was hands down the craziest, best, and most useful piece of technology Opaddeka's greatest minds had ever designed, specifically from a business person's point of view. All the comfort of real life interactions with people, but virtual, accessible, and wireless. Octans, senior representative for Vanishing Point, Inc. had already once before utilized the social network for business purposes with the OME--with the military force's general in fact--and was now dealing with one of the most exciting commissions VP had done yet, second only to the Spires. Albion Marius, a member of OME's Navy branch, had sent in a commission for a personal ship. But this was not just any ship, it had all the regality of a sailing yacht and the power that matched little else in the sailing world. The complete specifications list he had sent in were certainly helpful, bbut nevertheless, VP's design team had spent days on the design, hurdling engineering challenges. However, at long last, the design was ready to propose to the customer, who was expecting a quote. Octans pushed open the virtual door to the conference room he was to meet Albion. The uniformed navyman stood there proudly waiting for his arrival. "Hello," Octans greeted, making a beeline to the conference desk with the briefcase he was carrying, and promtly set it up. The case seemed to be empty, but with the push of a button, Octans called up the hologram of Albion's custom ship. "I'm sure I don't need to tell you, but this is the largest transportation vessile we came up with." The Praetorian guard remarked with a smile. Edited by Blake Kinlion, Mar 30 2011, 11:01 PM.

0.3 ![]() The representative from Vanishing Point had entered the room a little earlier than Albion was expecting, but nonetheless he was on time and punctual. This was a good sign; it meant that the corporation was intent on creating a proper professional atmosphere between them and the military - regardless of any bad blood that had existed between them. While rumours of dishonourable discharges from the military scythed through the higher ranks, as well as criminal charges, this was something else. Albion was treating each of them as individuals, not as a part of one potentially-diseased whole. Albion nodded his head to Octans as he entered the room - a strange name, but nonetheless - and examined that which was proposed before him. The vessel was huge, as he expected. It was a triple-masted vessel, which unlike most seagoing ships with masts, did not use rigging. Instead, the masts were made specifically to turn and twist and lock in place by electronic sensors, by the looks of things. So too could he make out the naval autocannons, the two hatches for the tenders located in the ship's bow, and even the launching rigs for the jetskis. Even the interior design was great. Needless to say, this vessel was exactly what they'd asked for - and, Albion thought to himself, a little more. "It's perfect," Albion breathed. "This thing is exactly what we've been waiting for. An experimental light frigate... admittedly, it's lighter and slower than normal, but it's also got more long patrol capability than any other military vessel." That bit was more a muse to himself. "You've done an awesome job on it. What're your projections on its performance?" he asked, truly wondering what this man thought of the vessel as one of its designers. |

0.2 ![]() The man Octans was selling the seafarer to was barely his own age. Of course it was common to see young adults making major investments for grandiose endeavors in Opaddeka, given the nation's nature as kids were encouraged to seek independence at a young age. Albion asked him to comment on the ship's performance. The VP exec had not explicitly experienced the Falcon's capabilities first hand, but was shown videos and computer renderings of the ship in action. Octans also knew very little about boats, so he took a moment to think of the right word. "It's...nimble." The word 'nimble' had come out much slower than he had intended, giving the impression that he was simply bullshitting the OME operative; he hoped Albion didn't think so. "Of course," He said, in an attempt to recover, "This beauty was designed with state-of-the-art technology, is made of top-of-the-line materials, and is simply out-of-this-world in execution." Considering his choice of words, he should have left 'out-of-this-world' as an unconnected phrase. |

0.2 ![]() Nimble was more of a word for aircraft, not ships, but Albion let the faux pas slide; after all, he couldn't expect anyone from a corporation to be versed in proper military terminology. Were Albion to know that Octans thought of this as a boat and not a ship, well... okay, he'd have to eventually draw the line there. Either way, the fact that in front of him was the vessel of his dreams was no problem. It was the one thing that pulled him off the track of the misnomers and back to where he needed to be: in this meeting, studying his vessel. "Well, I look forward to testing it out. You'll have to give us exact specifications as to how long it will take to cross certain areas of the seas," Albion said - it was one thing that had never been specifically given. As travel could be done in different forms, both by sail and engine, general times to cross specific portions of the sea was needed. That, and there was one final matter. "And of course, we have payment being prepared for you. We'll be able to handle it once it's delivered - which, as I understand, is your company policy? We can of course make a deposit payment as necessary." |

"No need for a down payment." Octans assured pleasantly. "As you said, we'll handle all that when the time calls for it." He took the briefcase and snapped it close, the hologram of the ship blinked out of existence. "Our designers perfected a speech-based interface for the ship's on-board computer. From pretty much anywhere on the ship, you can have it perform nearly any function simply by speaking to it. In the map room you'll find where a lot of our time went into the design. It's a virtual 'smart room'. GPS enabled, the wall closest to the bow acts as a three-dimensional computer screen and is touch-sensitive. It can pull up any information you are looking for, including, but not limited to, conditions of the weather, the ship, your current speed, camera feeds from the waterproof cameras embedded in hull. Anything you need, and it's there." He had hoisted the suitcase off the table and was now walking towards the door. "Oh, and the ship will talk back to you when you address it. The designers named her Shirley. I think the name can be reprogrammed, but I'm not exactly positive about that." He shrugged apologetically. "Unless there is anything else you'd like to ask, I really must be off. There's some work I have to attend to." |

There was one final touch that Vanishing Point had added to the Falcon that they needed to tell him about - and it was an interesting one. Ship-wide voice recognition software that could perform duties for them. Now that was an interesting one, because Albion didn't believe in so much automation. Many jobs, as he was reminded daily with his work, needed to be done with human hands. Perhaps that could change... but, it was still an excellent touch that they could get an entire warship to respond to commands. "Oh, now that's clever," Albion said, a little taken aback at just how massive that project would have had to be to get it done. "I think we'll keep the name." With that, though, the rep had to go and attend to his other business, and Albion understood. It was the exigency of duty, that things needed to be kept brief and succinct. In fact, Albion could relate rather heavily as to how difficult all that was. "No further questions, and I certainly won't keep you. In fact, I should probably get the crews shuttled out to Mayriver myself. We'll transfer payment the second it's available. Thank you for your help - it's been a pleasure." With that, Albion nodded his head, left his seat and the room in turn, realising, very simply - he had his ship. |
