This is the intro post! You sign up! Etc!

I learned a lot from the last thread, the Battle of Brightopolis, the giant clusterfrick that it was, so Ive decided to put in some new rules to help make this a little easier to play, mod, and hopefully follow.

RULES and INFO!

Wow, a lot of rules! Please keep them in mind! I dont think theyre too much to ask, and hopefully helps you focus on the RPing or something. Once again, this is a Non-Canon event!

---

Intelligence informed us that a Jgsei force is on the move, heading south from the Upper shelf and now just a few klicks away from Murmur Valley. They are planning to take over the Malral District like they did Brightopolis.

The highest town on the Lower Shelf has been evacuated. Much of the National Guard has been stationed in the Malral District in order to defend it from enemy invasion. Hopefully it doesnt come to that, because the Jgsei troops should never even make it past the Fog Marshes, because this operation is to stop them from ever getting out of Murmur Valley.

Youve all been briefed, so you know why youre here, boomed the woman with a scar on her face.
We lost Brightopolis, and many brave men, women and pokemon. Their lives will not have been given in vain. Her name was Colonel Samara Bringer, a woman who once battled the Violet Furies*, and Chief of the Opaddekan National Guard. Watching out over the heads of some five hundred troops she smiled, that old wound on her face curving around her cheek like an extended eyelash. She had been sitting behind a desk for too long. Today we pay them back. Today we defend the valley. We protect the homes and businesses of the Malral District. We drive them back up the shelf, and send those Jgsei bastards back to where they came from!

========
There was a lot more to that speech, but after the cheering she climbed down from the Observatory roof to join the rest of the squads. There were many soldiers here today, many more than were present at the Battle of Brightopolis, where Opaddekan reinforcements could just not get there in time. But now almost the entire force of the Opaddekan armed forces would descend on Murmur Valley to engage the Jgsei troops**.

General, Colonel Bringer said as the Opaddekan Battalion marched towards the foggy marshes. She trod side by side with General Floyd T. Scavian who the President had requested to be on the ground for this one again, or at least at the beginning. The VP Spires are up and operational. Powering them has been a challenge***, but now they should be able to last for days if under constant attack. All well need to worry about is taking down the enemy troops, weird pokemon and all. She seemed a confident woman, her strides assured and her head held high, but she was no fool. She only spoke this way for her soldiers, who she knew looked up to their superiors like herself and the General. The devastation that befell Escennia and Brightopolis were sharp reminders to the woman that Wars are never easy, never simple, and leave a lasting mark wherever they touch, even if the scar across her eye didnt itch any more. Well be needing your powers from the Holy Mechanism soon too, Sir. When we really enter the fog of war.

======

The battalion, squadrons that were a combination of Marines, Army, Navy, Airforce, National Guard and even volunteer League Trainers, were all marching towards the battlefield where the conflict was expected to take place. One squad in particular keeps YOUR interest, Player, as this is the troop where all Player characters currently march together. Some of you may have fought along side each other in BoB, others you may never have met, but now you are one unit and headed to war.

All other squads in the platoon, in the company in fact, are NPCs. So theres the premise to start this one off.

You were transported the Malral District somehow, picked up by the army or whatever. Make like youre marching from Malral to the Murmur Valley, heading north. To your left, in the west, are the Barrier Mountains and Mt Fog. To your right are the Sinklands, Misthenge and the sea beyond somewhere in the East. Yall going towards Mist Valley. You dont know what youll see when you get there, but you should expect the magnificent VP Spires that you will be fighting with and some more Opaddekan soldiers that have been scouting ahead and setting up defenses.

Interact with each other, throw in some short and snappy posts while you guys talk! Whatever! You probably wont do that, but I mention it again anyway just in case you do and I encourage it. Check out the next part for something to work with>

====

You hear some conversation from a squadron adjacent to yours as they march towards battle.
My pokemon seem to be really feeling this boost in power, said a Navy NPC to his tall Army NPC friend.
Mine too, he replies, Their attacks will definitely be stronger now. That Professor Willow really does know more than just raising pokemon doesnt she?
A third pipes in, Marine NPC, as he pulls his foot from a squelchy puddle.
Yeah, amazing stuff, I wish we could have our pokemon juiced up like this all the time. There are murmurs of agreement at the sentiment.
Would be, but you read the report, says Army, Makes our guys more powerful, but if were not careful with our shots we could drain them more quickly. This potion was specifically developed for giving us an edge in warfare, its been given to every pokemon fighting this battle, but its not suitable for anything else. And a chorus of accord was the response to these wise words.

==

And you actually know what theyre talking about, sort of, because as mentioned ALL pokemon have been given this temporary boost to their powers, including yours. Its a concoction brewed up by Professor Willow that makes your pokemons attacks stronger. But how does it work exactly? Well youll find out more when we reach the Spires, in my next mod.

Footnotes!

It was humid. I could feel the moisture in the air on my skin; I sometimes even ended up with a wet smear on my cheek. I wished I could walk with them: Alicia, Bell and Medea, but somehow, this was meant to be a march that was done by solely humans. I didn't see anyone with their Pokemon out and being just another sheep in the herd, I walked on, feet stepping into wet soil. I never walked here before but I heard of it and I hoped they would let me stay here after the battle had ended.

The battle at Brightopolis still left scars inside. Even when I thought about it as superficially as that, a tremble ran through rapidly through the ring finger on my right hand. I heard that a vein in that finger was linked to the heart. Sometimes, I wasn't sure how I felt about all of it. It wasn't right: what did the Jgsei warriors want from us? Our land? Didn't they have the whole north all to themselves?

They didn't look civilized; but maybe that was it. We weren't taking care of our own country properly and they wanted to teach us how in their hippie ways. It was terrible, how we were always wracked with disasters and yet, no one really cared. It was terrible how no one did anything about the poisoned town: and even though I criticized the lack of action, I really had no right to because I too did nothing, like the rest of them.

I held onto Bell's Pokeball: she understood more than I did about O-me's sacrifice. It was her presence that let me walk on with strength. Sticky sweat bound my skin to the slick surface of the ball -- I couldn't let go. Not yet.

I didn't like the idea of giving them drugs however. The command that came down said it was imperative however and I followed suit. I wondered to myself when I would finally be sick of being a sheep and finally standing out: then I remembered what had happened to O-me was because I decided to stand out and try make it safe for the other OME members to escape. And where were they? I knew none of them; it was strange to be fighting this all by myself. They were teamed up, fighting alongside each other during that skirmish at Brightopolis.

I, however, was all alone. And without Alicia, Bell and Medea beside me, I felt even smaller than that.

Climbing into the helicopter by the pokemon center, he nodded to few the other trainers he recognized from the last battle. Surprisingly, the pilot was the same one from the last two flights. Which Quinn guessed made him specifically assigned to Radloff transport.

"Good to see you again man!" Quinn mouthed through the copper headset. "Whats the word?"
"Words you mean! Barrier towers and potions! It's all in the briefing under your seats. Give it a read, but do it fast. This ain't no ride through the park." He was right too, right after he said that the chopper lurched in the air and sped off towards Maral.
________________

The one thing Quinn had at least liked about the Battle of Brightopolis was there was the no marching bit. Despite the fact everything else had been a clusterfuck the no marching was cool. But this was an entirely different battle, the numbers carried by Opaddeka gave everyone a much needed boot in confidence, but also meant they had to march. So meh. Quinn just hoped their bolstered numbers didn't go to anyones head.

He noted that many trainers didn't have their pokemon out, which he thought was stupid. There was no way he wouldn't have his pokemon out and let the enemy catch his pants down. Nikolia held onto his head, Kela perched on his shoulder, and Emmeline floated noiselessly above them, seemingly blending into the mist. He had left Vera, Ivo and Robert to help power the generators, granted he wasn't sure how they got the Scorpiobat to help power something...

Still, the thought of Ivo using Ice Ball to power the generator was at least keeping him entertained through the walk. He had yet to see anyone he even could semi-bullshit with. He was particularly looking for the girl he fought alongside with Slice, or even Slice. Quinn hoped the guy got a promotion or something after that fight. At least a raise.

I had heard rumors, from Lavender herself, about Murmur Valley while I was living in Slumber with my parents and the Gardevoir. It is said that the land is perpetually enshrouded in a fog that cannot be cleared by mere normal means. Only with the power of a Holy Mechanism can the fog be cleared. Now that I see Murmur Valley for myself at last, I can see that those rumors are true after all.

In the aftermath of Battle of Brightopolis, Aurel and I had grown closer to each other only by necessity. I suspected that there was something more to it, but I can't discern what it was from Aurel's tail-flame. Speaking of the Charmander, he was clinging on to my head. This may be partially due to the fact that Murmur Valley is a marsh of some kind and therefore has some water. However, from "listening" to Aurel's purring through my skin, I could tell that my dear partner has grown a liking to me.

I smiled inwardly to myself. Goal One: Achieved.

I took out the Pokeball that contained my newly acquired Zigzagoon, also named Scout, and looked at it. I felt the minor shift of weight as Aurel looked at it too. I caught him peeping at it from the corner of my eye. I nodded slightly so as to get his attention. "Let's see what this one's capable of. We'll have plenty of interaction in the battle that's to come, eh Aurel?" My dear Charmander smiled a bit and nodded in response before taking his previous spot.

While continuing to clutch Scout's ball, I looked ahead and marched into Murmur Valley with my fellow OME comrades.

It wasn't that far from Little Hillmoss to Malral. Especially when you were riding a creature that moved like lightning over flat terrain.

"I have got to get you a saddle,"

You keep saying that and you never do it.

Steely shakily slid off of Raider's back in Malral, and gave him a few pats.

Everything would be better this time. They were here.

Some people didn't have any pokemon out, and Steely had a brief though to withdraw Raider, but dismissed it. So what if the Jsegi folks didn't think he'd make a difference. His presence made a difference to her, and that was what mattered. And if people wanted to gawk at the Legend of Thunder, then let them. They could gawk at her in her yellow and black-striped coat if they wanted, too.

The group they were in was all people she slightly recognized from the battle at Brighty. In particular, she found herself looking for those two girls and the ninja from her little group. They'd never actually had a chance to introduce themselves, so she was kind of hoping to fix that.

That boy over there has a tiny version of that one fire weasel you have. And that boy has a tiny fire lizard like that dragon you have, Raider observed, stretching his head up to look at everyone he could. Steely turned her head to look the same way he was looking, "Well yeah. It's called evolution. Not that you'd know anything about that," she nudged him in the chest with an elbow, and he snorted.

I am already big and strong.

"And if you got any bigger I don't know what I'd do with you."

I would be taller then Alex, which would be nice.

Even though this wasn't the time, Steely facepalmed and sighed as they marched. Why is this even a thing.

Picked up, dropped off, it was all a bit of blur. The explosion had knocked him for a bit of a loop. He tried to stick to pseudo-Vanishing Point group that had developedat some point, Leslie had been whisked awayand he was vaguely aware of sending Blissey, Whiscash, and Slaking away with the ship. Now, he was marching to meet the Jgsei troops, this time colliding head-on.

He felt much more confident, and more determined in this second go around. His team was halved, sure, and his ship was gone. But these things, he felt, had been more of a hindrance than anything else. Most importantly, he was committed. Perhaps is was whatever Leslie had brokered to construct these spires, or maybe it was the decision for VP to stick together. Whatever it was, he was now part of a team. Not a huge, impersonal military. The emotional investment was key.

As well, their numbers were bolstered, and these reinforcements had brought with them a more positive, can-do attitude. This outing would turn out right. It had to. It just had to.

So now, he was marching along with the rest of the trainer volunteers. He searched the crowd for his fellow Vanishing Point members. He could pick a few of them out, and wanted to push through to meet them. Instead, he settled for having Yanmega zip around and call them over.

Yanmega is trying to get the VP members to group together

The group of enlisted trainers seemed, if not cheerful, at least hopeful. There was a sense that they could win this, that they could stand where Brightopolis had fallen. Egrinain, however, couldn't share their enthusiasm. She hugged her folded arms closer, cheeks burning as she walked in the middle of the group. Every time she tried to sum up the courage to say something, she remembered what had brought her here in the first place. The capture by the army for interrogation. The revelation that the illegal factory she'd helped the Golems destroy in the Quad Mountains hadn't been an illegal factory at all. It had been a secret government installation. One part of a chain of factories that was now dedicated to supplying Oppadekka's suddenly outclassed forces. She had knocked out one of their key suppliers of components; and while it was doubtful that having the factory operational when Jgsei invaded would have made a difference to the Battle of Brightopolis... as the interrogator had put it after they'd determined Egrinain's innocence, "Now we'll never know."

"Now we'll never know..." that last sentence was eating away at her. She'd thought that if she joined the war effort, that might be enough to lessen the guilt that had come crashing down on her. It hadn't been enough: she was still unable to get rid of the sick, churning feeling in her stomach. To think that she had, even accidentally, aided the savage horde that was now devouring Oppadekka as it swarmed down southward....

A rubbery hand wrapped round Egrinain's wrist, giving it a reassuring squeeze. Egrinain glanced down at Jerome. "Come on," he said solemnly. "You need to focus - that's the only way you'll be able to take your mind off this."

"...I can't" Egrinain said vaguely. "I just... I can't get it out of my head. It was my idea, my fault."

"Not really" Jerome countered. "It was that old Golem's idea. You just followed along with it. And don't forget.... I was the one who set off the Earthquake. If you're responsible, I'm doubly responsible."

"...but I told you do it" Egrinain said faintly.

"And I listened to you." Jerome replied. "I chose to do it, because I thought it was the right thing to do as well. But I don't feel guilty about it, and neither should you." He held up a hand as Egrinain opened her mouth to protest. "I don't feel guilty because I know I would never have done it if I'd know what the factory really was. You wouldn't have either. If we're guilty of anything, it's ignorance. Hold onto that and remember, the military let you take part in the upcoming battle. They wouldn't have done that if they thought you couldn't be trusted."

"....I suppose" Egrinain said, feeling better but still not fully convinced.

"You alright?" Amalthea asked Egrinain, looking up from her place on Egrinain's other side. The diminutive horse had put on quite a bit of weight and size since Egrinain had got her. The extra muscle mass had made her almost at large as a regular-sized Ponyta, and every bit as strong. She had been carrying Twig on her back for the last mile or so, with no signs of tiring, something she was immensely proud of.

"Not really, Amalthea" Egrinain replied, heaving a sigh. "Alright, I need to stop dwelling on this. Focus on the task ahead. We're here to stop these Jgsei monsters before they destroy anything else.

"What makes you think they're monsters?" Twig asked innocently. Egrinain's mouth pressed into a thin line.

"They attacked without warning, they destroyed two cities, and their queen promised to wipe us off the map. They. Are. Monsters." Egrinain spat out the last few words with so much vehemence, that Twig almost fell off in shock. Her other pokemon gave her an odd look as well. They'd never seen Egrinain so... spiteful about an enemy before. Even the pokemon smugglers who had captured Amalthea had only put her in a state of shocked outrage. The Jgsei forces had brought out a sense of loathing in the girl. Egrinain took a deep breath and gave her head a light shake, clearing her thoughts and focusing on their current task; march to Murmur Valley, to the site where Oppadekka's military would make their stand against the invading horde.

The Vanishing Point headquarters was in a frenzy with trying to prepare for the inevitable war that was being brought to them. Ayame didn't know how much the other members knew about what was going on, and she didn't know how much she was even supposed to know. But evidently Octans had the Vanishing Point research team coming up with something massive to help in the fight against the Jgsei warriors. Unlike Borealis, Andromeda, and Lynx, Ayame didn't really know the new emergency that was quite apparent was going on. It wasn't until a rally of Vanishing Point members was assembled in order to see just how many of them were prepared to go to war once more.

I'll go this time, I'll go and fight again. But, but I won't be some scared child. I'll stick it through without faultering. I owe that to myself, my Pokemon, and everyone else in Vanishing Point...

It wasn't long though until she found herself on a transport with various other trainers from Vanishing Point or not that whisked them all away to the Murmur Valley. Ayame had always wanted to go there, more specifically so she could travel to Misthenge and learn Poke-speak so she could converse with her Pokemon. However, it would seem that cute ideaology would have to wait for more peaceful times. She was briefed on what was going on. About the Jgsei Queen declaring war and dominance over this region, on the spires and its functions, as well as only allowing three Pokemon to come with her. The rest were needed to power those spires.

Thinking of not having a full team was hard, but considering the concoction that Willow had come up with to bring more strength to the Pokemon going out into the field was still some kind of comfort. When they landed finally, Ayame slipped through the side of the transport using the Phaser Device VP had developed. It still was working, and this time she intended to use it. She started to look around, more or less for Cygnus, Janus, or anyone for that matter. However, most of the attention was placed on Miss Raikou, and for good reason. There was the legend of thunder itself. She inhaled sharply, taken aback to be so close to a legendary Pokemon. But, considering their brief history, she swallowed that odd feeling and made her way over. "Hey there Miss Raikou. Remember me from the Battle of Brightopolis? You fought really nice out there. My name is...Minerva. It's nice to finally introduce myself to you."

She paused after the other introduced herself and turned to Raikou, eyes slightly wider now as she took in the visage of such strength. "Nice to meet you too, Raikou. I must say, you're just as the legends say. Strong and breath taking." Ayame smiled and bowed her head slightly, more so out of respect, but the buzz of a Yanmega caught her attention. It was Borealis' Pokemon, buzzing about her head. "Oh. I guess I'm being summoned. I hope we can fight together again out there! I can't wait to see Raikou in action and take down those Jgsei for thinking he won't make a difference."

And with that she waved, trying to stay calm and chipper considering the situation, and headed over to where Borealis was so that the two of them, and the rest of Vanishing Point, could march on to fight this war and win it. In preparation, she let out only one of her Pokemon, Kamakiri her Scyther and instructed him to perform a Sword's Dance in case anything came to them in the form of a surprise. Better to be safe than sorry.

They won't step foot near Malral. We'll all make sure of that.

The Three

Again, Celeste marched. The Battle of Brightopolis was fresh, too fresh, in her mind, haunting her nightmares. Every death felt like a physical blow, like a slice into her flesh. The horrors of war were too much for the little girl from Hillmoss who buried her face in books and played video games on weekends. She wasn't a soldier, yet she went to battle again.

There is nothing wrong with being afraid of crazy things.

The corner of Celeste's mouth quirked as she remembered what Steely had said to her the day she'd wandered onto her ranch. She'd left the OME after the battle, feeling hollow. Steely had managed to make her smile, and she'd joined the Black Tesla that day. Today, she marched with her electrowhip, retracted into its handle, sitting where her pistol once was, where it gave her comfort the gun never had, even though she was sure she wasn't going to use it.

The fight was instead for the three pokemon with her. Nightshade, her venomoth, a remnant of her short time in the miiltary, had mental powers and an array of powders. Poliwrath, another military pokemon who seemed destined to always refuse a name, could attack both up close and at a distance, and would be at home in the wet valley. The last, Aphrodite, much as Celeste didn't like to admit it, was there because she needed her. Her and the lopunny were bonded by the fires of battle, and she feared she'd break without being able to reach down and brush her fingers over the luxury ball. Jane was there, too, in her own special capsule, but the arcanine was not really a pokemon in many's minds, with no power to either fight or power the VP towers.

No longer having a uniform, Celeste was wrapped in a black coat that didn't help much against the damp cold, but had a thundercloud with a bolt of lightning on its back. It wasn't the Black Tesla symbol, sure, but until they had a team jacket it would be close enough. More importantly, she had the hood up, covering her hair and obscuring her face. She was a faceless nobody, just another trainer marching to her doom.

Then, she heard a voice. Two, in fact.

Celeste turned to see Steely and Raijin coming toward the unit. Were these different circumstances, she would have run up to them. As it was, she knew she should make her presence known to her friend and, now, boss, but she waited for them to settle into the group. Then, carefully, she slipped through the crowd of trainers to come up beside her.

"Hey." Celeste pulled her hood back, showing her hair pulled back in a ponytail, looking nearly black in the foggy valley. Her green eyes reflected the low light like a cat's, making them seem to shimmer as she gave a grim, broken-looking smile. "Have you see any of the others?" 'The others' almost seemed too familiar, but it was the only way she could think to refer to the rest of their small team. She hadn't seen them but, frankly, she hadn't been looking.

So you wanna be a master?

This had to be one of the more tiring ventures Cerb had ever been on. Sure, nobody had said that protecting the country would be easy, especially not from these strange invaders. But Cerb was used to more smaller-scale missions: collecting intelligence, fighting monsters, that sort of thing. Not engaging in mass warfare, unless one counted the zombies. She doubted anyone even remembered the zombies.

Lucky bastards.

"Gonna be one hell of a fight this time," she sighed softly, wrinkling her fingers in Epona's mane. The Arcanine whined softly, pinning her ears back against her head. Brightopolis had been scary enough, and now they were going in almost blind here in this thick fog. Cerb could sense her agitation through her point of contact on Epona's back, the dog's muscles quivering under her fur. The teen was counting on Epona to be brave and carry her safely through the day again, just like she had back in the city. She didn't even have a passenger this time, though Cerb wondered where Celeste was. Surely she would have cut and run; Cerb could recognize by now when someone wasn't fit to face violence.

Sitting on her shoulder, Sparky was scanning the crowd with his eyes and big ears when something appeared that made him crackle a little more vigorously. Cerb flinched away from a snap of static next to her ear, leaning slightly sideways on Epona's back to try and get some space from the Pikachu. "Honestly Sparky, if you're gonna singe my ear off you might as well - oh." Her gaze followed Sparky's pointing paw to the hulking form of a Raikou amongst the crowd. Of course people were gonna keep a polite distance from it. "You are entirely forgiven then. Let's go, Epona."

The Arcanine whined, delicately shouldering her way through the crowd to get to the thunder cat. From her perch on Epona's back, Cerb reflected with some glee that she was actually sitting taller than Raikou. Sparky took the cake though: he went and sat on her head.

"Fancy seeing you here, Steely," she said, looking down over Epona's shoulder and giving a little wave. Sparky squeaked from the top of her head, scuffling with one paw to get her to look down the other way. Cerb glanced down and blinked once in surprise."And you too, Celeste. I thought you would've gone home,"

Because home is where the cookies are. Man do I want some cookies right now.

We march to war.

This was something that... well. He'd trained for this his entire life, hadn't he? His duty as a Knight of Escennia was to fight and defend his homeland... but he had been powerless to do so when it had actually happened. He had come to peace with that understanding, finally, after many sleepless nights. The resolve, instead, was to protect all of Opaddeka from this menace, after their defeat at Brightopolis. If their towering fortress once again reared its head here, they would find a way to destroy it, or Albion would give his life trying. There would be no peace in his life until this menace was removed from their soil.

His march was not a march, but a ride atop his Rapidash, Winston, at marching pace. Flying beside him was his Scizor Reynard, the battletank monster who could fight his way through man situations. His defensive skills would be useful here. And, riding behind him upon Winston's flank was his fellow swordsman and page, as it were, Alistair. They could communicate, and Alistair could communicate the wishes of human and Pokmon to one another. It was a chosen three while the others were off powering these Vanishing Point towers that had been constructed... not the best of tasks, but a necessary one. He would have liked Rhun's power, or Catriona's long-range attacks, but this was not to be.

Upon Albion's body was his plate mail armour, freshly polished. At his side was tied his longsword, newly sharpened and tempered. Upon his left arm was his kite shield, once more repaired and ready to fight this battle, with the OME logo emblazoned temporarily on its jade and black heraldry. He wore no helm; the blonde-haired young man needed to see perfectly in this fog, despite the difficulty of doing so. This was a fight to change the world. This was a battle that would determine the fate of the Opaddeka region. He, and the OME, would prevail here, with the help of others. They could play at fighting, but he trained for war. This was not something many of them were used to. The visceral horrors of battle and bloodshed would be here at their fullest. In the shrouds of battle, who would die?

Albion was ready to die if he had to.

Steady your mind, the Gallade cautioned. Do not focus on the negative - think and empower yourself with thoughts of the impending victory and they will resolve themselves.

The squire said nothing, marching on upon horseback in silence. He was ready.

"mmpph...." A groan from a kid.

On television and in comics, youths were easily portrayed as heroes. But in real life, the fear of war was real and the weight of it all would mow down any kid, make him or her cower in fear. The probability of dying, being around loud deafening explosions, getting fired on, to a simple-minded kid that was war. Furthermore, there was an evil offense that was threatening the nation and everyone had to face and defeat it. That too was apart of war.

When he was visiting Malral, Rubin was surprised at the amount of military accumulating around the town, setting up a defense post and recruiting trainers for their aid in the battle. Apparently it was like that everywhere else, even his old town of Hillmoss back in the southeast. Now Rubin found himself surrounded by soldiers in a formation, marching north towards Mist Valley, crossing the fog-surround swamps. The boy was surprised that he could go; he was a pokemon trainer, not a combatant, so why did he go? He thought to himself, I don't use weapons, cause the words "arms" was parallel with the word "military". Opaddeka seemed to be a land where there was much emphasis in faith within Pokemon. They were flexible like humans; fighters, companions, workers, etc. Rubin heard that even the enemy used pokemon; even the one who helped Rubin to take his first step into pokemon training, Professor Willow herself was involved in fighting, and he didn't know why. Was she giving out her knowledge to the allied forces? All Rubin know that various trainers were participating and both men and animal mingled in the formation, and he didn't feel like staying behind because he had one belief...

Perhaps the Bond of Pokemon was going to be the best defense and offense in this war.

Rubin believed that Treecko, Zigzagoon and his spearow would assist him. They stuck with him and fearlessly followed the aim, despite Rubin's inner feelings. But deep inside, he wanted to save Opaddeka too. Treecko was on his shoulder, very composed and looking ahead at the marching soldiers. On his other shoulder was Spearow being the same; Zigzagoon marched in front of her owner.

Neuron was ready for round two.

He trudged along with the other trainers, feeling rather more at ease than most others let on. He could feel the solemness of the air overhanging the makeshift army. There was light chat amongst the ranks, but many small fidgets, cracks in voices, and other small mannerisms betrayed their true emotions. Many were still dwelling on the loss at the Battle of Brightopolis only days ago.

The shinobi shared the underlying regret of having loss the battle, but that was as far as things went for Neuron. It wasn't for the loss of the lives of comrades, nor the destruction of a once jubilant city, nor was it even the anger of his homeland being raped by an enemy that he and many others still couldn't quite understand at this point. Rather, he quite admired the enemy.

What he regretted, and was almost frustrated at, was how little he managed to do in Brightopolis. Surely, he was worth more than being just a package that served as back-up in case primary attacks didn't work? Between his team of five Pokemon and himself in that last battle, he had only managed to take down one ugly toad and nothing else. Hardly anything worth commemorating.

Now his eyes stared ahead as he walked. Calling their movements a march was laughable, and yet, they were "marching" and moving together as a group - the Army, the Navy, the Airforce, the Marines, the National Guard, and a group of ragtag trainers. He had actually been in Malral at the time being, and had crossed its path many a times in his journeys as a Pokemon trainer - he liked its foggy atmosphere and was rather familiar with the land. It would certainly prove to be advantageous for him there.

Absent-mindedly, he played with his belt where two Pokeballs were missing. His team of five had been diminished to three - two were ordered to be left behind to power those new spires his team, the Vanishing Point, had come up with. Truth be told, he wasn't quite sincere with his choice of Pokemon to be left behind. He could hardly imagine a lumbering torterra and flying pidgeot could be any help to power the spires. But between the assets that his companions provided, he needed the raichu, blastoise, and mightyena with him. His own survival was, once more, the only thing that mattered.

He was here for a secondary purpose, too. The girl who could shoot electricity - Neuron wanted to get to know her, and find out how to do it for his own sake and pride as a ninja. He saw her admidst the crowd of trainers, but couldn't quite get to her. He saw the pink haired Susceptor from VP talk to her briefly, but she was called away almost instantly by somebody's Yanmega. Before the ninja could make a move, others had sidled up to her. Small wonder - Neuron finally noticed the legendary beast in tow.

A buzzing snapped him out of his trance, and he turned to look at the same Yanmega.

"What?" he asked, a little rudely.

The Pokemon said something, but Neuron never understood Pokespeak in the first place.

"Go away," he growled, getting slightly annoyed. "Stop getting in my way!"

Clearly, Neuron had not seen this Yanmega before and did not know who it belonged to. But it was rather persistent and refused to leave. Neuron thought about swatting at it, but it looked rather strong and it wouldn't be a smart move to make a ruckus at the beginning of the march. Then, he remembered Minerva following it somewhere only moments ago. Perhaps, it was acting as a VP herald?

Sighing, the ninja gave up. "Alright, alright, I'm coming!" he said. This alias as Janus was becoming rather troublesome.

The first battle had been a shock, chaos, and frightening in its own way. But...now...

Raijin wasn't the only fast creature out there. Jax might not have the same edge, but there's legends of the great-hearted canines covering over six-thousand miles in twenty four hours. Hillmoss to Murmur Valley was nothing.

"Man. I knew I shoulda looked into a saddle or something..." But that didn't mean she was any more comfortable a ride. Or that her trainer was any more good at remembering little details. Ben loosened his deathgrip on her thick mane slightly as they slowed, and Jax picked up her paws a bit disgustedly at the terrain, before twisting her head every which way, letting her nose set to work, tracking down Raijin in the murk. The blind trainer had been guilty over not helping out last time...and now they were headed south. To Malral, true...but if it continued, Hillmoss could be next. And he had a home again. He wasn't going to lose it again so soon.

Jax found the scent after a moment, and bounded that way, head held high, barking a greeting to the thunder beast and Epona, not really knowing the latter, but hey, fellow arcanine. She paused though, at the whiff of another familiar scent, and veered a bit, causing Ben to grab for her mane wildly a moment. "Hey! Jax, slow down...where are we headed? I think Steely and them are that way...uh...Jax?" The white hound's curiosity had been piqued, though, by this new scent. She ignored Ben's protest and bounded to the left a bit, ending up whuffling at a young lady's brown hair interestedly.

"Ah...er...sorry?" Ben leaned around the white arcanine's bear-sized head, hoping that the canine wasn't giving whoever a heart attack or something. "Jax just decided to detour this way. Dunno what got into her." He shrugged helplessly to Egrinain as Jax whuffled again, interestedly. She could have sworn she smelled this person before, but for the life of her, couldn't figure it out. Probably because it was just a crazy dream or something. "Um..."

He hesitated a moment or two before speaking again, momentarily taken aback as he actually focused on her aura, noting the muddled fury practically radiating off her. "I...you okay?" Steely was over with Celeste and Cerby, so they could handle themselves. Now that Jax had brought them over here, he could tell that this young lady was pretty much alone aside from her pokemon. "Ah...Ben Summers, by the way. And Jax. Sorry if she startled you."

Silence. Absolute silence. Though Darucho was often a laid-back, chatty sort of person, not a single word escaped his lips as he followed the mob of trainers to the specified meeting spot in Malral: and Layton did not question why the spiky-haired one was so uncharacteristically silent, either, the psychic bird just as quiet as Darucho was: the seriousness of this situation was so much that laid-back chatting could not even be considered. Hed been busy trying to do good deeds here when news of the first attack had hit him: by the time hed heard anything, it had all been too late: the city had been taken.

Why were the Jgsei people doing this? Werent they happy with their own land? Apparently not, apparently they wanted to make this region better reshape it into their own twisted version of glory, from the rumors hed heard regarding where the Jgseian leader had hacked into a meeting of the most important people in the region. They wanted to purify it, they wanted to return it to its rightful owners: and none of those words made any sense to Darucho. Yes, there were bad things that happened in the region: but reacting this bad to them? It seemed nonsensical, crazed, delusional.

All those lives lost, tooand for what? Just so the Jgseian people could purify the land? Spilling blood would not purify anythingall it would do was create stains that would never fade, and yet the Jgseian leader treated the deaths of those good mean and women like there were nothing. This was unacceptable: every life was precious, and the Jgseians had no right to take the freedom or lives of the innocent people and Pokemon of this region away.

So, though he had watched the news of the first attack heart-broken that it had come so late and hed been unable to do anything, this time he COULD help to make a stand: and hed do everything he could to help the groups fight off the Jgseian forces and protect the Malral City. The little girl who was kind of his friend here in the cityhe owed it to her to try and protect her home as best he could, anyway. Wrapping his scarf a little more round him in a serious way, he whispered to himself, I promiseI promise Ill fight my best to protect you, little friend of mine. For your sake, your grandpas, your other family members and friends and everyone in the city.

This firm promise made to himself and the girl, he saw many familiar faces there was miss Steely, the person whod helped administer him into the Vanishing Point! Leslie, another Vanishing Point member, his Yanmega buzzing around the crowd and upon seeing his face, making high-pitched cries. It seemed the bug wanted him to follow, so Darucho nodded and followed the bug willingly, his Pokemon keeping close as he did so the large almost draconic dragonfly leading him to Leslie himself.

Darucho gave the fellow Vanishing Point member a respectful, silent salute before looking around from his new point everyone was tense, also already having sent their Pokemon out and waiting, ready to strike. There were more familiar faces in the cross- Darucho saw that nice-looking guy with the white Arcanine, who had practically almost plowed into someone just then: hed been, like Darucho himself, in the Grand Melee and won a mystery egg. He also saw a person who looked like a ninja grudgingly stepping towards him, Leslies Yanmega swerving away form him oh, was he a Vanishing Point member, too?

Darucho detested fighting and having to hurt, let along the thought of killing others, but knowing that so many fellow Vanishing Point members would be there by his side made him feel a little braver. And even those in other teams had come placing aside childish rivalries to aid in the valiant effort, and it brought a tear to Daruchos eye. Why couldnt the silly Jgsei leader see goodness like THIS in people if she truly wanted to spread purity and goodness? It was beyond him, and he didnt think a person like he would ever figure it out.

That aside, he turned to his three Pokemon: he had brought Layton, the thoughtful and wise Psychic-equipped with a Twisted Spoon. The Natus ability to relay things to him mentally would likely be of great help in this. Next was Pearly the Hoothoot, whom like Layton had been saved by Darucho a while ago and was forever grateful to him for it, and wanted to get started on repaying the favor. Though young, she was quite possibly just as smart as Layton and had innate psychic abilities: and access to useful moves like Hypnosis, Reflect and Extrasensory. The third was Daruchos strongest Pokemon of course, his starter, Mia the Pidgeotto, golden feathers glinting in the sun.

She had the most powerful moves at this point, and her glinting feathers could potentially distract Jgseians long enough for them to get good, successful hits in. That was his team of three: but having to place his friends in direct danger like this was not something he wanted. Hehe didnt want to lose any of them. Layton the Natu seemed to sense this conern, softly saying to only Darucho Do not worry, my friendwe promise to not get ourselves killed out there. I shall mentally recall any of us should we get in dire straightsbut only if its dire, of course. Darucho managed a small smile despite the seriousness of the situation: hearing Layton say that promise made him feel a little bit better.

Not a lot, thoughDarucho wished there was some other way to handle all this, but the Jgseians had done too much damage, and reasoning with such crazed minds was certainly no option: there was no other choice but full-scale no-holds barred war, and he knew it, too. This said, he supposed he should ask Mia to try and set up as best she could before the Jgseians came, so that way, when they did come, she would be ready to strike with all the speed she could. Turning to the Pidgeotto, he whispered to her, Set up as many Agilities as you can the more speed you have before they come, the better. The bird nodded, promptly spinning in a serious, aerial,
dance to raise her speed, attempting to do this as many times as she could before the first sign of the Jgsieans came

It was time for revenge. Hannah's soul had been awfully uncomfortable and angry because of Oppadekka's loss at the Battle of Brightopolis. If she hadn't been involved, she would be okay but the problem was, she had been. And she felt really guilty for letting one of her region's major cities fall like that. The people of Jgsei were definitely something and Hannah didn't like them or their freakish Pokmon at all. She loathed them and that was why she just couldn't wait for sweet revenge.

Hannah had promised herself, before entering the second battle, to try even better than before. They couldn't lose Malral just yet. No, not after what they had done to Escennia and Brightopolis. As long as Hannah walked the Earth, she would make sure those jerks wouldn't succeed in their little mission. Opadekka would win this war, hands down.

For now, though, they had to march; march through the soggy ground, march through the damp soil, march through the slimy, slippery floor of the Valley. She didn't like this place at all if you couldn't tell, recalling one incident where her boot had been dissolved in acid. Hannah sighed. Hopefully, no more Grimer would do that to her any time soon. She had made sure that one suffered for doing that one devious task and she was definitely going to treat others the same way.

Just like she was going to take care of the Jgsei Warriors.

"Hannah, stay cool, stay calm, there's no need to be thinking too hard on the matter," Melody, Hannah's loyal Misdreavus advised her, "Just relax for now and when you find trouble or danger, then you should do something. But for now, find yourself a new friend. Maybe that person could help you later on during any fights,"

Hannah shrugged, "I suppose you've a point. But who shall I talk with? Some person from VP?"

Melody sighed, "Even a normal person would do. You'll need friends at some time, Hannah. If you end up growing close to them, then they may just help you out during any tough situations, war-related or not,"

Hannah rolled her eyes at Melody. Hannah didn't need any friends to live a happy and fulfilling life. To Hannah, all that mattered was luxury and her Pokmon. Friends weren't unnecessary at all. But if she didn't want to be prodded by Melody's speech a bunch more times, she should make some new friends. But who would she pick out the dozens of people?

She didn't have to pick however. A few moments after staring at the large crowd, a large dragonfly poked Hannah in the chest and pointed to the VP gang with its tail. Hannah didn't get it though. She had thought it was a wild Pokmon. "Melody, Psybeam now," Hannah commanded, her voice high with panic.

Melody rolled her eyes, "That's a VP Pokmon, you dolt. It's asking you to that crowd of VP people there."

"And how do you know?" Hannah glared at her Pokmon.

"I've Psychic Skills. I can do things most people can't," Melody sighed, causing Hannah to grumble as she marched toward the VP group.

She greeted the VP group with a nod before continuing the march, not sure what to say. She recognized three of the four members (Mr. Xatu Guy,Borealis and Minerva) but the other one was unknown to her. But she wasn't going to talk, nuh uh. It had been mentioned earlier. She didn't know what to say. Others were welcome to start a conversation with her though. ^^

Man, this sucks! Signe exclaimed as she dropped on her bed. Sanshiro looked up from his meal and gave her a quizzical look. She groaned and put a hand to her head. That whole battle, back in Brightopolis... I mean, it was fun, yeah, but... She paused and groaned again. I have a headache. She sighed and sat back up. And now theres another battle. But I have to go.

Zan?

Because if I dont, youll whine. The Zangoose huffed at this. Well, its true! Besides, Im not gonna miss this. Its too big for me to miss! She held out her arms to emphasize just how big it was. If I dont go Im gonna regret it. Big time. She paused. So, you see, I have to go.

Zangoose. Sanshiro rolled his eyes and continued eating. Signe grumbled. Well, whatever. She didnt need Sanshiros approval for this. It was obvious that he wanted to go, anyway. Hed really enjoyed Brightopolis, even if he hadnt gotten to attack anything in the end. It was probably the adrenaline. Signe sighed, pulled her cap over her eyes and tried to get a bit more rest before she would be picked up.

-

Signe looked around, Sanshiro by her side. She saw some people she recognized from Brightopolis. Some from the OME, some just normal trainers and some even from the VP. She recognized the girl with the Misdreavus. Oh, and there was Borealis! She looked up at the Yanmega that was flying around. Was that one of his Pokemon, then? Neat! She nodded to herself. It was obvious what she should do. She should go join the other VP members and stick close to them. Safety in numbers and all that. She started walking in that direction...

And then she caught sight of the boy that had been in the same squad back in Brightopolis. She blinked. Odd how he stood out in her mind. She stopped walking and looked back and forth between the general direction of VP members and the direction of the boy. She bit her lip. She should go join the group. Shed joined the team for a reason. She was supposed to stick with them. They were her teammates... but...

Oh, screw it. Before she realized what she was doing, she ran over to the boy. He hadnt seen her yet, apparently. Good! When she got to him, she made a small jump and threw her arms around his neck. Sort of a backwards hug/pounce/glomp, really.

Hi! she said, grinning widely. She let go and moved in front of the boy, crossing her arms. Sanshiro was slightly to the side, rolling his eyes at these silly humans. He decided he better just boost himself up for the battle. Did ya miss me?

The war had finally caught up with Alex, albeit a bit later than everyone else. He had spent the Battle of Brightopolis overseeing the finishing touches to the Black Tesla HQ, and getting everything up and running. It was probably for the best, given how badly things had turned out for the Opaddekans in that battle.

So here he was on the outskirts of Malral, marching along to wait for the arrival of the invading Jgsei forces. There were the obvious OME forces, of course, as well as healthy contingents from Black Tesla and Vanishing Point. As one would expect, Alex was currently travelling alongside Steely and Raider. Apparently the invaders had known about the Raikou beforehand, or so he had been told. Damned spies, posing as children to gather intelligence on them. Seriously, who would have thought that sweet little Cody was working for Jgsei?

"Looks like we're more prepared than last time." He remarked. This was accompanied by the nagging thought that the Jgsei troops were probably preparing themselves just as thoroughly, but Alex shook that off. This army was both large and strong, and he still had his own military training to fall back on if things went sour.

Alex had chosen his pokmon based on what Steely had told him about Brightopolis. One powerhouse in the form of Sentinel - the Golem plodded just ahead of him, occasionally thumping his fists together to create a flashy display of electricity. One agile aerial support in the form of Yin - the Ninjask was a blur just above them, darting about at ridiculous speeds. And one all-rounder in the form of Dynamo - the Manectric stuck close to Alex and Raider as they marched.

Sergeant Elizabeth Waters glided silently over the field astride the back of her tropius. The young woman gazed down at row upon row of soldiers and trainers banded together to stand and defend their homelands. The enemy had not made their appearance yet, but it would be difficult for their heavy machinery to navigate these foggy marshy lands. Murmur Valley would hopefully be as far as they ever got, too far already but now, now they'd be sent home where they belonged. Why they were here in the first place was still unknown, but that didn't matter right now, now her and her fellow Opaddekans only wished to send them packing.

Gradually Liz guided Ayla back to the ground and fell into step with others who were making their way on foot over the swampy terrain. So many people and yet she felt rather alone. Tansy was not at her customary place by her side but rather away aiding the others in generating the needed power to provide them with the special shielding they hoped would protect them in this confrontation. The trainer now only carried three, Ayla her tropius, Drago the gyarados and Levin a kirlia. Perhaps some human companionship would keep her mind off of things. Still where might such companionship come from? Liz had noted the presence of a few trainers she was acquainted with, mostly current and former OME members, mostly Black Tesla members. The presence of the thunder cat had a strangely calming effect, still one legend against the thousands of Jsgei warriors would hardly be enough, but it couldn't hurt. After a moment's thought, Liz found herself drawn to one of the newer privates in her team. A young man who'd lost a very brave pokmon to protect his teammates as they escaped from that ally back in Brightopolis. Liz changed direction and let Ayla trot up alongside Private Maikeru who seemed rather lost in thought. She saluted him from the tropius's back to catch his attention.

"How you holding up, Private Maikeru?" Liz greeted with a gentle tone so as not to startle him. They'd met briefly once back at headquarters but hadn't much chance to get to know one another. This wasn't really the time or place for that, however, Liz did want to at least express her gratitude at his previous act and condolences for his loss.

Go for it, run towards it, dive in head first. Live life with no regrets!
Steely happened to be looking in the other direction when Ayame/Minerva was headed towards them, but the thunder beast noticed the human right away. He looked away and nudged Steely, bringing his attention to the girl that approached. Steely grinned at her, and Raijin looked a little less completely serious and a little more overtly curious.

"Hey, thanks. You too. I'm Steely," she said, offering her hand to shake. Raider perked his ears up when Minerva looked at him, smiling the best his sabertoothed face would allow.

Thank you. My name is Raijin, the beast thundered. From the angle she had right next to him, Steely squinted at his face, "You're blushing."

I am not.

They both jerked in simutaneous surprise at the yanmega, but Steely quickly got over it and frowned slightly. She waved too, and Raider bobbed his head, but Steely looked bothered by something. (That was Aris's yanmega, I think. Whelp, that figures.)

Raijin wiggled excitedly next to her, bringing her attention to their other team members that were showing up now. Particularly Celeste.

"Nice coat," Steely grinned. It reminded her of her usual one, which was folded up back at base, replaced with her Raikou-themed getup right now. Raider leaned over and affectionately rubbed his face against Celeste's head for a second, making Steely kind of stare at him.

"Well, Alex is here," but Frac is a slow poster, which is fine she waved her hand at him, "Ben was with us as we traveled... but I think we got separated in the crowd. I know Elijah isn't coming..." she scratched her head.

The thundercat blinked at Cerb and Sparky as they walked up, his fur puffing up without him realizing it. He quickly looked around, first at Steely (who was too short), then at Alex (who he didn't want to give the satisfaction to) and finally Celeste. Suddenly, the great beast moved to stand behind her, and dipped his head and front end down, shoving them between her knees. Steely, too startled, could only make a wordless squawking noise as he moved forward, pushed his head up, and had Celeste sitting on his back.

Ha! ...wait.

Yeah, no, he was the same height as arcanine, and while Celeste was a few inches taller then Cerby, Sparky was still up there. Raider flattened his ears.

"Oh my goodness this is not the time for this. Here," Steely put her hands on his chest, crackled a little bit, and the big cat rose into the air.

I can fly!

Steely sighed at him, reaching back to flatten her hair, "Yeah, big surprise that I'm here. This isn't just for you military people, you know," she said with a touch of bitterness in her voice, not looking at her friend, but ahead at where they were marching instead. She did look over at Alex, though, sounding more tired then anything else, "I do think there's more people here now then before, yeah. More trainers, I mean," she looked around, since there were a few folks around that she didn't recognize at all.

Yeah, teaching Raider magnet rise since I somehow forgot to do it before now.

And yeah, Luigi? Steely isn't in VP. Dur. She's the leader of BT. >.>

Celeste's smile still wasn't overly happy, but she scratched gently at the side of Raijin's neck as she rubbed against her. "Nice to see you, Raijin," she murmured, something in her eyes seeming to glitter more. Her fear of the beast had long passed since their first meeting at the OME base, and she'd probably forever have a soft spot for the big cat.

"I, uh, meant other than Alex. Should've phrased that better." Celeste flashed a nervous smile at the tall young man. Truthfully, she'd been a bit too focused on Steely and her thundercat, but she figured poor choice of words was more believable, and less offense, than not having noticed him, since she'd never really explained her lazer focus to anyone before. She brushed off the sleeve of her black coat a little. "And thanks. I like yours too."

Then Cerb entered the picture, and Celeste wasn't entirely sure what to say. Cerb had seen her at her most vulnerable at the Battle of Brightopolis, from her terrified trembling in the calm before the storm to the sobbing mess she became in the transport home. And now, she'd resigned without telling anyone first, not even her. She half-expected Cerb to be furious.

Then Raijin decided to interrupt her doom and gloom by tossing her onto his back with his head. Steely's squawk was accompanied by a squeak from the redhead as she nearly tumbled right off him. She gripped to the tiger's shoulders for a moment, eyes as wide as saucers, but slowly relaxed, at least until Steely put her hands to his torso and...did electricty just run down her arms? Raijin started levitating, which was certainly unususal and worth paying attention to because she was on his back, but she was still just looking at Steely because no one's explained the whole electrical superpowers thing to her yet.

The touch of bitterness in Steely's voice, however, cut off any questions that her mind could possibly put together. She put away the thoughts of strangeness and instead gave Cerb one of the sad smiles she was sure the girl had grown accustomed to. "Honestly, I thought so too. But I just...can't."

"Hrm, no sign of anyone really." Quinn could feel Nikolia nodding in agreement on his head.

He knew the names and faces of some of the more famous people around him, mainly from the Melees and televised contests, some from the general news. He saw the VP group from the last fight, and many of the more 'flexible' OME folks marching along. It also seemed a new team had formed right in a rural section of Hillmoss. Led by a well know lady and her Raikou, which was easy to spot in the crowd.

"The Johto legend of thunder. It's a long way from home." And if it seemed to know it was being talked about, at that moment the Raikou had turned and stared directly at them with the most serious face the cat could muster. Wide eyed and completely startled Quinn just stared back with a nearly panicked face. "...Oh god how did it hear us."

Kela quickly evacuated off his shoulder. Confused, Quinn watched the bird soar up with Emmeline before hearing something over his shoulder.

"Hi!"

"Ack-thbt." Someone had jumped on his back, arms around his neck. Kela must have spotted the person before Quinn and flew off before getting hit. He swore he could hear her and Emmeline chuckling above him. Just as suddenly as the body had appeared it was now in front of him. It was the girl he had fought with in the last battle, she was probably looking for a familiar face and found him first.

"You! I mean. Uh, well, I honestly never got your name. Can't blame me though, kinda was a war going on." He went to scratch the back of his head only to scratch the back of Nikolia instead. He went with it not to look awkward. "Can't miss someone if you don't know their name. I'm Quinn, you are?"

War was freakin' confusing! Douche really had no idea what was going on now that the Battle of Brightopolis had ended. He had only just begun there, when it was all over and he was being whisked away to another place to fight. From what he heard, the main leader-guy, the one with the Corsola who came to help him out before, had died. Now there was someone else in charge, and they had been ordered to march.

Ugh! Marching. They'd barely even started, and his legs were already telling him to go sit down and rest. But he couldn't, not if he wanted to get famous for being a war hero. So the boy pushed himself along with the rest of the crowd with a pout on his face.

Soon, he noticed he recognized someone in the crowd from his team, VP. He was the ninja dude who owned a Mightyena, and they'd traveled through the Graveyard together. He seemed to be following a Yanmega somewhere. Weird and mysterious! But hey, maybe he should tag along - it would probably take his mind off the pain in his lower body! So Douche began tailing his fellow VP member to see where he and the 'mega were going.

In took a few moments, but soon, a small crowd had formed. All these VP members, in one place, many of them likely meeting for the first time. And under these circumstances.

They all traipsed on, trodding one by one over the moist Valley ground; now, not much more than mud. Aris, or Borealis as he was known to the others, greeted everyone individually as they showed up. Many were still missing, though, so Yanmega darted off again.

He felt like he should say something. But he wasn't one for speeches or histrionics. "Well, here we are," he said, not quite sure where he was going. "I wish we had more time to get acquainted... but we just don't have the time for that." He really wished Leslie was around, he seemed like a bit more of a leader.

He plunged a hand into the bag slapping against his back. He pulled out a can just about the perfect size to fit in his fist. "From the Hart Station shop," he explained, "I grabbed a few after the last battle. I figured they'd come in handy. Everyone can group a few."

He showed them to the group, for them to claim at their leisure. Then he shouted the same thing out through the crowd, just in case there were some left over and one of their fellow fighters was in need.

Aris has three of all the canned items from the shop: Gastro Acid, Sunshine, Rain, etc. But he's keeping a Gastro Acid for himself. So there's only two of those. Anyone can take 'em if you want 'em.

You!

Yes, me! Signe replied, perhaps a bit too happily. She listened patiently as he talked... or, well, as patient as Signe could be. She had a huge grin on her face and was bouncing up and down on her feet. She frowned slightly after his introduction. Of course you can miss someone if you dont know their name! You obviously missed me. Obviously this wasnt the case, but this is Signe. You might as well toss all sense out of the window immediately. She nodded to herself. I can see it in your eyes! Good for you, Quinn! You attracted a crazy chick!

Oh! She slapped herself on the forehead. This is the part where I introduce myself! Im Signe! Nice to meet you, Quinn! She stopped bouncing for a moment and dragged Sanshiro towards them. The Zangoose looked more than a bit annoyed at this, but he doesnt get a say in this. This is Sanshiro! Say hi, Sanshiro!

Arceus, I hate all of you. You didnt even need to understand pokespeak to understand him, really. His tone made his opinions very clear.

Hes a bit of a jerk. She smiled and patted Sanshiro on the head. Despite the fact that he apparently hated Signe, he didnt seem to mind this too much. After this, Signe turned around and looked around the area some more. Things sure are tense, huh? Dya think we can win this battle? She frowned at the memories of Brightopolis. This would be one of Signes moments of sanity. Very rare. I mean, last battle didnt exactly... go well. She paused, but didnt really wait for an answer. She just shook her head and suddenly her smile was back. Ah, well, Im sure things will be okay! In fact, Im a hundred percent sure. No, a thousand percent! And the moment was gone. Oh well. Fifteen seconds of sanity had to be some sort of record.

Ayame
Big Dreamer
It may not have been all of them, but indeed a decent sized group of them had banded together now in order to function as the team that they were. She recognized Borealis of course, as well as Janus, Hannah, and Darucho. However, the other male, a kid no less, she did not recognize. She just figured it was a new member and shrugged it off. She was more so concerned as to where Cygnus was. Better yet, what about Octans? Lynx and Andromeda had pretty much fallen off the face of the planet as well.

So what if our numbers are slightly dwindling? We're still strong.

Borealis welcomed them all to the little pow wow and immediately went to business by pulling out the stock reserve of the items he brought from the VP store in Hart Station. Considering Murmur Valley always had a fog settling over it, most of the weather enhancing cans seemed pretty pointless to her. In fact, the only thing that seemed pretty useful was the canned Gastro Acid. With a smile, she decided on that and took a can of the ability nullifier, leaving only one behind.

From the way he was acting, Ayame could tell that Borealis wasn't exactly comfortable with the whole leading thing. He seemed to be better suited for leading from behind the scenes while Octans was more so of a go out and get 'em kind of leader. That left herself and the rest of the Susceptors. Janus seemed more so aloof than anything while Cygnus had yet to make an appearance.

Damn it Cygnus, where are you?

She simply shook her head and sighed, clearing her throat almost immediately afterwards however. As her title suggested, 'In order to guide the many, there must be the few who have power'. It seemed as though she would have to exert some of that power now in order to, hopefully, bring this team she was apart of a little closer as a whole.

"Excuse me Borealis, I don't mean to step on your toes at all, but I'd like to add some words of my own." She didn't really wait for a response, just going on ahead with what was on her mind so she wouldn't lose it. "The Battle of Brightopolis was hard, and we could do nothing but mostly leave the fighting to our Pokemon. This time, we're meeting the foot soldiers head on. If any of you have any gear from the Vanishing Point store at headquarters, use it. Abuse it. And win. Use weapons and aim for their heads and stick close to your Pokemon. Work as a team. Stick close to your team mates, and work as an even greater team."

Ayame smiled, smiled towards her boss and smiled to her fellow members. "I know we all aren't here yet, but if we stick together, we'll win." The Scyther next to her cheered a little, crossing his blades together with a smirk. Minerva was in full gear with Ayame put back on the backburner.

"How many assholes we got on this ship anyhow?"
The soft buzz of conversation from the steadily moving platoons somehow set the General's nerves on edge. The enemy would be expecting them as they moved forward and met on the fields. Though they'd been given time to prepare he still felt they were sorely undermanned. The Jgesi leader was simply too confidant. To allow them this time to prepare instead of simply devastating the country side and being done with it, it reminded him too much of 'Cat and Mouse'.

Vanishing Point was a godsend. The spires so rapidly raised over the past few days at the very least granted them some measure of unjustified confidence. The mentality of the troops were what made the difference. If his people felt they could conquer, then in a sense, they already had. Even Floyd felt better prepared to face the unknown. Behind himself and the woman, slowly drove another one of VP's marvels. The M12-ARV was an armored tank on wheels, specially designed for the low visibility marshy environment of the valley. The nearly thirteen ton one of a kind machine roved over the soft turf like a boat over water, thanks to the peculiar nature of the swamp grade tires. How the hell it worked was beyond Floyd. It did and that was all that mattered to him.

The supped up Zombie proofed SUV did not drive itself though -- a Geneticore did. Til'k, during his symbiote's life as Squishy the Ditto, had found driving a manic sort of thrill. The ditto's love for speed aside, she had been quite adept behind the wheel. This fool hardy madness was one of the first talents that had surfaced in the monster, revealing the gentle, though very much mad, personality beneath. The M12 was not the battered OME jeep he was used to handling though. Thirteen thousand pounds of steel, and ballistic grade aluminum and glass did not exactly turn on a dime. For now, Til'k was grateful to crawl slowly behind the marching alien and his co-leader.

No more of Floyd's pokemon were present. They had been briefed on the situation and were familiar with the area. They would rest in relative calm in their pokeballs until they were needed. Likewise, Floyd was to hang back, behind his troops, and oversee this lethal venture until his critical assistance was needed. Only two known citizens of the country possessed the Holy Mechanism Defog, and the other could not be located at present. He thanked every god he could think of for the tattoo presently scrawled over his left forearm. One wouldn't think, to look upon the oddly provocative artwork of a naked female Scavian, that it held such startling power. But it did. The machine roving behind him relied on it. His responsibility in this maneuver, though seemingly slight and unimpressive, was critical.

Given that Bringer was stating the obvious to him (he supposed she was rambling to settle her nerves, not unlike the rest of the troops), he consented to do the same. His nerves did not need settling. They needed rewiring. He was so damned nervous, he couldn't remember what it was like to relax. It was for the best. This constant state of keyed up tension was fast becoming the norm. He had to run with it, if he were to fulfill the task at hand.

"Yes." He replied. "I'll hang back and oversee the field. The spotlight on the M12 will cut through the fog when the time is right. Lexx will be of some assistance as well. I took the liberty of teaching her Defog just before we started moving." This was redundant information. Bringer had watched him release the massive dragon fly, and seen him direct the great insect to touch the magical (and rather perverse) artwork. It was difficult to tell if the dragonfly had been tittering over the tacky image or simply tickled to learn something new, but having never used it, Floyd was putting more faith into the spotlight mounted to the roof of the M12. "Never the less, be sure our troops stay on their guard." He said, at last attempting to give voice to his fears. "The enemy would not have permitted us to gather if they were in the least bit afraid of us posing a threat."

The rest of Floyd's thoughts were kept to himself. He was more or less alone. He envied the semi-cheerful nature of people he knew and many he did not that acknowledged one another with everything from warm friendly greetings to nervous smiles of recognition. But their attention was ahead of them, not behind. He quickly shoved aside the childish need for companionship. This was no time for being sentimental. He had a job to do and with two cities destroyed, he had lost much face among his betters. Never before had Floyd felt more stranded and alone than he did then.

Egrinain started as the massive head of a white arcanine snuffled at her in curiosity.

"Ah... er, sorry?"

Egrinain switched her attention to the apologetic face that was leaning round from behind the arcanine.

"Jax just decided to detour this way. Dunno what got into her." The man's smile changed to a concern frown. "I.. you okay?"

Egrinain gave a smile. It wasn't entirely sincere, but it was an honest attempt. "Yes, yes I'm fine, just... got a lot on my mind at the moment." Hopefully, he'd interpret that as meaning the war... "She's fine, she just startled me, is all."

Egrinain frowned as she took another look at the man. "Do I know?..." she shook her head. Serious Deja Vu there for a moment. "I'm Egrinain" she said, reaching a hand around the Arcanine to shake his hand. "Pleased to meet you."

The Yanmega led him to a slowly increasing group of gathering trainers, some of whom he recognized and others he didn't. There was Minerva, the kid whom he threatened over butting into his fight back in the graveyard, and the other new guy who charged into the unknown due to the ninja's suggestion. Neuron bit back a smile at the thought.

The rest he didn't quite recognize, but they were clearly VP members. Octans, whom the rumours alleged represented the VP at the War Room, was nowhere in sight, and neither was Lynx. There went the only two of the four Praetorian Guards that he knew, only one of whom the shinobi respected. The Yanmega in question, belonged to an unknown face that Neuron could only assume to be Borealis. The last Praetorian Guard was a lady, after all.

Neuron rolled his eyes and barely held in a derisive snort as their VP leader made his laughable attempt at a pow-wow speech. Even then, Neuron still chose to keep a certain distance between himself and the group. He couldn't help but fuel the irritation inside him for having been brought over for this speech that virtually meant nothing. Disappointed, he ignored the cans in Borealis' hands and decided to leave.

Before he could step out of pace from the group, however, a second voice cut through the chatter to talk to the group. This time, it was one Neuron recognized, but did not expect. Slightly astounded, Neuron turned around for a better look and sure enough, Minerva was addresing the group on the grounds of her title as a Susceptor. Where did the young teenage girl who needed mental support back at the Battle of Brightopolis go? When did this extreme transformation happen? The ninja could only guess.

Her words made a difference in the shinobi. Not a whole lot, but enough to allow the ninja to approach Borealis and retrieve the third can of Gastro Acid. He grunted in a manner of thanks. It was barely audible, but at least it was something.

"Uhh." Well that was an interesting assumption. He was looking for the girl, but more for the benefit of having someone to talk with on the walk over. It's wouldn't have mattered had he found her or not, but Quinn figured it wasn't a good idea to tell her that.

"Signe. Pleased to meet you." He said with a smile. Nikolia also waved and said hello from the top of Quinn's head.

Zangoose were an irritable species as far as Quinn knew. He hadn't had much interaction with the them over his lifetime, he didn't consider them a 'Popular' pokemon. Still, all pokemon had at least one person who used them for some reason. Wether being their favorite or filling a niche in the trainers team. "Uhh, hey Sanshiro. This is Nikolia."

"Cyn." Nikolia nodded politely, no reason to start a conversation with a pokemon who clearly wasn't giving two fucks anyone the time of day.

He listened to Signe seem to finally calm down for a bit and talk about the war. "It's tense but.... for different reasons. People here are confident, unlike Brightopolis, where we basically knew we were screwed. Here we're tense because we feel we have a chance at winning."

His mind trailed to Nicotine, the man who's life was taken right before their eyes. They may have lost that day, but they had lost in a grand and showcased style under the commander, wiping out nearly all of the enemies frontline troops between them and the volatile balls with eyebrows. "And yeah, it's be much better for us this time around. Those towers VP set are a godsend, and what Willow's cooked up will be of huge help."

Sergeant Elizabeth saluted and I saluted back. It was nice to be acknowledged. To be honest, the OME had been a tough nut to crack for quite a while; it wasn't easy to become part of them. Her Pokemon were all released, by her side. It would feel good to have my own companions with me; I wasn't blind and did notice that everyone else who marched together started to let their friends all out. Maybe it was because we were mainly made up of Pokemon League trainers; they weren't as used to the tough militaristic discipline that I had to endure through my short tenure in the military. OME had been pretty lax on their trainers however; but I shouldn't say that to Sergeant Waters.

"I'm not too bad, Sergeant. Yourself?" I gave a small smile. It wasn't hard. Her Tropius and her were a team. "I wonder if it's all right with a travel with a companion. The mud isn't something I'm used to. I much prefer snow." To be honest, I hated socializing. I hated being pushed into something that I didn't want to be in. I hated being uncomfortable and I hated when people felt obliged to talk to me when they had rather been somewhere else.

Sergeant Waters however didn't give me any of that sort of feeling. I thought she was pretty sincere in coming up to me; and I would like to be nice to her as well. I released Bell who wordlessly lifted me up onto her back. This was starting to be a routine since O-me passed on and she evolved. Sometimes, I liked to think that after he died, his spirt somehow bolstered Bell's strength. Her black exterior glistened in the sun: sitting on her might get hot after a while, but with the moisture in the air...

I travelled beside her. Bell trudged forwards, black with the green leafy Tropius.

"Hanging in there." Liz responded once the private was finish speaking. She nodded at his wondering and patted the tropius's slender neck. "Sometimes all we have are our companions. I wanted to thank you for what you did back in Brightopolis. You and your Parasect made a great sacrifice for us. I'm terribly sorry for your loss." She spoke with complete sincerity. Liz wasn't one to lie about such things. She always tried to be honest and open with people.

Ayla bent her slender neck down to examine the black metagross. She'd never seen such a thing before, though the curious tropius hadn't seen many things yet. She didn't like what she'd been seeing the last few days. This war business wasn't anything she'd been expecting when she was adopted into Liz's family. But at least she wasn't alone anymore. Liz smiled at the uniquely colored steel psychic. One day she hoped to have one of her own.

"By the way, this is Ayla." The brunette introduced the tropius who bobbed her head in greeting. Liz glanced around the field noticing how others had sort of gathered together in their own small groups. It seemed as though everyone felt alone and were seeking out someone to spend perhaps their last few moments with. Liz felt a little sorry for their general standing at the back looking more alone than she'd ever seen him before. "Funny, marching into battle isn't where you'd expect to be making friends. Almost as if we were just heading to a party, not war." She murmured softly with a sigh. If only that were true, how she wished that were true. Liz shook her head and glanced back over to Maikeru. "I'm sorry, that was really depressing. Things should be different this time. It shouldn't be as easy for them to maneuver that monstrosity in this muck and we've that VP shield with us now." Yes there was more hope for them this time, if things hadn't changed much on the Jgesi's side.

Uhh, hey Sanshiro. This is Nikolia

Dont care. Sanshiro huffed and sat down further away, but close enough that he could keep an eye on them. He wasnt about to leave the battle, but he didnt feel like dealing with these people. Stupid sociable trainers. Disgusting.

Dont mind him, Signe said, watching as he walked off. He acts like a jerk, but I know he doesnt really mean it. She giggled. Nikolias cute! Well, he was. All Cyndaquil are cute!

She nodded as Quinn talked about the war. When he mentioned the VP, she felt a twinge of pride and guilt. Pride that she was in the team this technology came from, even if she hadnt had a direct part in it. Guilt because she was supposed to be with the group. She pushed that thought out of her head. This wasnt the time for distractions.

Right! She smiled and nodded. Thingsll go well this time! Not just with those advantages, but this time well have an idea of what to expect.

Youre still going to fail horribly, you know, Sanshiro growled. But were ignoring him, because hes grumpy.

Hey, I have an idea! Oh god. This cant be good. Lets stick together during this. Thats got to be better than running off on our own, right? Actually... that wasnt all that bad. Slightly sensible, almost. Almost. What do you say?

The motley gang of VP members was coming together nicely. If everyone looked out for each other in the coming battle, then surely this would create a "united we stand" sort of effect. But where was their fearless leader? Er...one of their leaders.

Octans was late. He was late for a good reason, but still he was late. Somehow, Borealis' dragonfly was able to locate him and bug him *pfft* enough to concede to go find the rest of his group.

He glided effortlessly across the ground on his state-of-the-art Air Treks--motorized roller blades of sorts--powered by the ghostly possessive skills of Barrette, the Rotom that Octans had befriended in Felcrest city. To an onlooker, the ease and grace that Octans used to pilot the Treks made him appear to be hovering slightly above the ground. A feat which was entirely possible since the Treks propelled the wearer so fast that any slight bump they hit could give them upwards of 5 seconds of 3-inch air-time. In short they were awesome...until they reached the Sinklands, then they'd be useless.

Activating his VP helmet's HUD, Octans scanned the growing crowd for his mates. The helmet's display highlighted a handful of people that were grouped together and the Praetorian Guard steered towards them looking like some sort of super-soldier. He was decked out in full VP gear, helmet (complete with a red and gold Trojan mohawk), the skill-enhancing body armor, and three of VP's patented weapons on his person, an axe and a rifle strapped to his back and a smaller pistol-sized gun on his hip. He skidded to a halt in front of them--tearing up turf as he did so--just as Minerva had finished her talk. "Yeah, woo! Go team!" He said only slightly enthusiastically. He put an encouraging hand on Minerva's shoulder and whispered in her ear, "I knew I made you my Susceptor for a reason."

With his Treks on, Octans was easily a head taller than everybody else. He liked being tall. "Sorry, team. I was making some last minute inspections on the Spires, everything should be in order, or at least running at our best capabilities. They should really give those Jgseian scum a run for their money, eh?" Their was uncertainty in his voice but he tried to hide it as best he could. Truth was, there was no telling what the Jgseian army would pull out of their asses. Hopefully no more of those crazy missiles.

"So yeh, do your best out there, and look out for your fellow teammate." Despite being a good team leader, he wasn't the best at actually talking to them. That's why he had Minerva and Cygnus. Speaking of, he really hoped that Cygnus would be able to find them. Also, where was Signe? Borealis' Yanmega must have been able to find her. >:

Looking down at Borealis' outstretched hands, Octans sneakily swiped a Canned Sunshine.

Hannah continued to march with the Vanishing Point members, her eyes dreamy as though she was in another world. She was. Hannah was somewhere in her mind, pacing back and forth, thinking things over and over; strategies, warnings, solutions, possible combinations. She was thinking over all of that and more. Hannah didn't want Murmur Valley to fall into ruins like what had happened in Brightopolis. She had to learn from her mistakes. No more Miss Nice Girl. Hannah, unlike last time, had her Laser Rifle in her hands.

She was ready to shoot the enemies to death if they dared threaten to kill the people of Oppadekka. To protect herself from harm, Hannah wore the VP armour she had bought from earlier. She had gotten used to it by now and Hannah sure if would help her during the battle. She could also help those without armour defend themselves. Perhaps, then would she get herself some friends.. Friends, hm?

Speaking of friends, Melody was pushing Hannah to make herself some friends. Like the usual. Melody directed her attention to the remaining VP members which remained alone. There was Borealis, Janus and Minerva, all three having major roles in Vanishing Point. And then there were some people she didn't recognize which Hannah didn't like to meet. Hannah didn't want to meet some strangers. Strangers were well, strangers. Hannah wouldn't know how they acted like nor would she know what to say. They were strangers.

Thus, Hannah's attention fell upon Minerva. Hannah remembered her from her first mission in Vanishing Point. Minerva was. Hannah didn't know much about her. She had been a lack of a leader, letting Cygnus lead the group instead. But she did seem to be quite nice and friendly so what was wrong with getting to know her better? She took one step and then she heard Borealis' short speech, followed by an addition by Minerva.

Hannah was taken a back for a minute, slightly astonished. Hannah never knew Minerva had enough courage to do that. Oh well, perhaps Minerva had changed. Hannah needed to change too and become more social. Taking a deep breath, she took several steps forward so she marched side by side with Minerva. She had gone this far now. She couldn't give up. Hannah tried to start the conversation, "Hai, I'm Hannah, remember me? How are you?"

Oh god what is this I don't even
"That sounds pretty good. Not that I plan on going off by myself...this fight." Quinn remembered the plan he had wanted to try out. Looking up at Emmeline, floating around with Kela and a handful of other pokemon, made him remember he still had a chance to turn the tide if he ever needed to. "Yeah, it'll be nice to have someone to go back to back to if it ever came down to it."

Quinn then suddenly whistled. In the next moment both Kela and Emmeline fluttered and floated down, with Kela landing on his shoulder. "Ladies, meet Signe. Signe, this is Kela." The bird took a wing an made a mock bow the best she could. "And this is Emmeline." The ghost smiled, like it knew something you never would. She proceeded to hum and float back up above Quinn.

"Who did you bring to help? You have your uh..." He looked around her at the Zangoose, "Tempered fellow. I hope you brought two a little more well tempered?"

Ayame

She did it. She finally was able to really be the person she sought out to be when she took the title of Susceptor and adopted the name Minerva. They looked onto her and heard her, and it seemed as though they listened. Of course, this little victory was nothing more than an inward reward on her own part. It would be her performance out on the battlefield that would really clinch this as a day of victory. She had her battle armor and she had her phaser device, and luckily enough, she packed away her laser rifle as well. Ayame meant business.

What she didn't expect was for Octans himself to come skating in on one of VP's newer transportation models, one pretty much exclusive to Octans at the moment, and encouraged her micro-speech. The whisper in her ear of him making the right decision choosing her was enough to make her drive and will harden even more for this battle. In the Graveyard, she was nothing but a fake, a wannabe leader. In Brightopolis, she was a fighter, but still someone who needed support in order to survive.

This time around, she was going to be a leader, or at least a winner.

With the little pep talk aside now and her own feelings booming to the extent of admiration for her team, Ayame marched forward with them. Kamakiri her Scyther sticking close behind her and squinting into the fog. He was being antsy, but that was fine. The silence around her was broken however when Hannah caught up to her and acted in conversation. Ayame never expected that, to say the least. She always pegged the girl to be a bit of a loner. Maybe today wasn't just meant for her and her own progress? Maybe Arceus had other plans.

"Hello Hannah," she started, a smile set in place. "Of course I remember you. You handled yourself really well back in Brightopolis from what I hear. I'm glad to have an ally like you." Then came the how are you? Initially, her thoughts were overrun by what was going on with her mother, her feelings on who her father was, and then, of course, the invasion of the Jgsei. Though, to be liked one must be honest. "I'm scared. But that's what makes me human. My fear is also anger as well as sadness. While passed that fear can be happiness. All that needs to be done to get passed that is to bring down the Jgsei. Don't you agree?"

Again, smile was set and Ayame couldn't help but reach down and take hold of Hannah's hand, gripping it in a sense of togetherness as comrades, team mates, and friends.

"You and your Parasect made a great sacrifice for us. I'm terribly sorry for your loss."

He. Wasn't. A. Parasect. He was O-me.

Bell's mind lashed out like a whip,; and I rubbed her head gently. I leaned down and whispered, "Bell, it's okay. She doesn't know. No one knows, except us. You can't blame--"

I'm just clarifying. Her dark limbs lumbered forwards like pistons on a machine. Ever since she evolved, she had become stronger; but she had been crying when she evolved. We were both crying. She loved him; and I knew it would take much longer before she could move on. I raised my head and shot Sergeant Waters an apologetic look.

"Thanks, in any case. In the flurry of things, I didn't know if anyone noticed. No one has spoken to me about it in any case..." I paused, my eyes trailing off to the side. Her limbs were strangely spider-like. They moved just like how O-me's legs scuttled about. I lightly traced my fingers over Bell's forehead. "Wasn't my sacrifice. O-me wanted to do it himself." She then introduced her Tropius to me; I grinned. I liked her Tropius: her sleek brown neck scooped lower to look at Bell more clearly.

Hi there. My name's Bell. I always wished I could fly. Bell started to lighten up a little. The war... it was coming but I thought it was better if we pushed it back into the depths of our minds for now.

I smiled at the female sergeant again. "It's okay, I know the truth. We're not going to win this battle. Not any time soon. We're merely," I licked my lips, "struggling to survive." When she continued with her speech, I realized she was trying to be optimistic. That was hard in times like these. I decided that I wouldn't want to hope any longer. Alicia once told me hope was a form of self-delusion. I understood it now, somehow.

Was it stronger to hope for the best? Or was it better to prepare for the worst?

"It's never too late to make a friend or two. I'm glad you spoke to me; it hasn't been easy trying to induct myself into OME. If possible, we should stick together, have each other's backs." I gestured to Bell. Her eyes lit up with pride. "I assure you, despite being lower in rank, I believe I would still be of help."

"Hey mister. You look funny."

That was all Neuron could come up with when Octans skated up to the group fully decked out with his new VP toy. In truth, it looked rather ridiculous to Neuron, and it took awhile before the shinobi realized that it was Octans who had chimed in the tail end of Minerva's pep talk to the other VP members. The uncharacteristic quip emerged as a result of being torn between disgustedly disinterested in the team rallying and slightly entertained by Octan's get-up. Fortunately, it was only muttered under his breath - he wasn't sure if anybody else heard.

"We done now?" Neuron growled, better known as Janus in this situation, a little more forcefully this time. He deposited the can he had taken off Borealis hands within his cloak. That was about the only thing that had proven advantageous following the Yanmega so far. Janus wasn't about to tread all over the uplifting words of encouragement and teamwork offered by the other VP leaders, but Janus definitely smelt bullshit. The leadership team was really just talking to calm their own nerves. In the thick of battle, did they think it would not be natural instinct to stick together?

Power in numbers, that was something a fighter as aloof as Janus understood in the thick of battle. There was no need to stress it. He huffed and detached himself slightly from the VP group, straggling behind a little to put some distance between himself and them.

Various bodies have gathered together for this next fight. Rubin was probably the less suspicious looking out of the whole group. Not like he would know what "suspicious" meant, but along with the pressure of war he felt the discomfort of being around anonymous group of people. He was surrounded by strangers; furthermore, they all looked more prepped for battle compared to the boy himself. Seriously! Armor and cloaks? And jackets? Rubin looked left and right, then raised a hand up to Treecko's head. The boy was frowning, biting down on his lower lip. Aside from the bizarre uniforms, what Rubin also saw was a bunch of different pokemon, many being larger than his own pokemon and even himself. Upon sight, they gave off this imposing air like they truly belonged here. They also looked a long stronger compared to Treecko, Zigzagoon and Spearow.

"Two cities were destroyed already. Can we really make a difference?" Rubin said to himself.

Alright, so thats a plan, then! Signe smiled. She was relieved, though she would never admit it. She didnt like crowds, but she also wasnt dumb enough to go out on her own in this type of situation. Having Quinn as a temporary partner was a nice compromise. She looked up as Quinns other Pokemon flew down.

Nice to meet you two! she said. She paused when Quinn asked about her other Pokemon. Well, of course she wouldnt bring other Pokemon like Sanshiro. That would just be insufferable. She glanced over to the Zangoose. Yep, still as grumpy as ever. Tempered is probably the best way to describe him, yeah. She giggled. Hes not so bad, actually. He just acts like a jerk. She took the pokballs of the other members of her team and released them. Hephi and Prisca looked around, slightly alarmed. Oh, dont worry guys, the battle hasnt started yet. They nodded. Signe turned back to Quinn and motioned to them.

Guys, this is Quinn. Quinn, this is Hephi, she said. The little magnet buzzed happily and floated around Quinns head to get a good look at him. And this is Prisca. The fossil was less pleased to see him. She made a chirping noise and hid in her shell as well as she could. Shes a bit shy. Sanshiro huffed.

Shes just weak. Man, Sanshiro is really being a downer today.

'I get it. I'm heading over now.'

Even in her earnest attempt to appear enthusiastic, Cygnus couldn't quite conceal a small sprout of irritation towards the Yanmega that got too pushy at trying to arrest her attention. Marching was never a forte of Satari's, and her civilian background had already accustomed her to everything non-military. So it wasn't a large surprise to say that she didn't appreciate the tactical importance of marching in a file or whatever that actually mattered in the military sphere. Cygnus' disappointment in the Battle of Brightopolis wasn't completely brought over to the trenches of Murmur Valley, yet her upbeat attitude had definitely taken a toll. Losses were more damaging to the psyche than the body, and she wasn't sure if they were psychologically still as strong here as they were in the humbling Brightopolis defeat...

Don't think that. That's recipe for defeat.

It was a good thing that she didn't quite succumb to the weight of her Full Battle Order, and her adjustment to the military style was arguably complete from the first battle. Of the three Susceptors, Cygnus was probably the weakest in combat fitness, and this is quite evident in the fact that she is the only one of the three administrators that does not own any combat equipment at all. Equipment never meant victory, but the ill-prepared nature of the Susceptor might have set a terrible example for the rest. Cygnus didn't get any equipment because she was used to fighting without any equipment, but what would the image speak about the level of readiness in the higher ranks of the Vanishing Point?

The shoes scratched to a halt, before picking up in pace. Its owner had found the people she was looking for exactly: a bunch of seemingly unrelated people grouped under the banner of the Vanishing Point. There were familiar faces, as well as new members she had never interacted with, but at least the morale seemed to be higher than what she had been expecting. Especially since she hadn't seen half of them at all during the Battle of Brightopolis. Being one of the last felt awkward, but at least no one seemed put off by it. Except for the ninja, but she knew that Janus had more considerations than her lack of punctuality.

'Hi guys. Sorry I'm late.'

Cygnus felt no need to extrapolate her explanation, or to give some half-assed apology for her lateness. As Borealis stumbled in his attempt at the pep talk, Cygnus found her eyes scanning across the entire cluster of VP members, before resting on Minerva. She could see the ninja retreating behind the pack, slinking back into his anti-social mode, and she suspected half of what he was thinking. Amber probably figured out the rest by sensing.

'...it's okay if you don't want to stick around here.'

And then, realizing that she was about to put across her point insensitively, Cygnus held back a little.

'If there are things you want to do now, like people you want to meet, it's best to do it now. I sense no liberty once Borealis and Octans take charge, and she probably won't entertain you once the fighting starts.'

Anyone could observe that the ninja was interested in Miss Raikou. Cygnus probably just didn't know why.

Hannah listened carefully to Minerva's words with a smile upon her face. This was one of her first time having a normal conversation with a human. Before this, she had either threatened other people or maybe just steal from them but never had she had a nice conversation with one. It felt kind of nice actually and Hannah to perhaps talk to some others in the near future. She was glad that Melody had pushed her into doing this.

Hannah raised an eyebrow as Minerva mentioned how 'good' she had done in Brightopolis, "Actually, Minerva. I don't think I did much. My battling strategy was off at first which lead up to the unconsciousness of half of my team. Perhaps if I had tried a little better, things would go well," Hannah sighed, "Oh well, I learn from my mistakes and I'll make sure to change how my battling goes this time round. I was thinking whether I could stick with you later when there are battles. We could help each other, right?"

Hannah's smile was sweet, something Hannah rarely showed to other people. Minerva continued speaking and Hannah continued listening. "Well, yes, who isn't feeling scared? We had lost in Brightopolis and some are still under shock. And yes, I agree. Jgsei's been a pain in the neck. Countless lives have been lost, lots of people have lost their homes.... Jgsei has been merciless. But I believe that a little bit of determination and hard work can do wonders. I've recently tried to make my Team even stronger, having some of my Pokemon learn new moves, equipping them with items. I believe things may be different this time round,"

Hannah paused for a minute, trying to find another question she could ask. "So, who did you bring with you? It would be useful to know what Pokemon an ally of mine has."

Ayame
Big Dreamer
The 'meeting' was over and Vanishing Point, along with the rest of the region were on the move forward to meet the Jgsei warriors that were said to be coming through the Murmur Valley to Malral. Pretty much everyone who had showed up that was a part of VP broke off into their own little cliques of sort. Support, that's all they needed for now. And then togetherness once the fighting actually started. Despite what others though, Ayame could think of no better way. They were scattered into two groups last time and they couldn't dent the forces. Perhaps this time if they acted as a team, then they would stand a chance at weakening the army.

Hannah was an interesting member of VP. Ayame could tell she meant well, and that she cared enough to be here as a citizen and a fellow human being. But her motives always seemed off. Talking with her now, however, changed that. A smile set on her face, she patted her fellow VP member on the shoulder and shook her head. "So? You're still alive. They're still alive. A smaller battle was won that day for you then." She turned her head away momentarily before sighing. "You know, I choked up and was pretty rash myself in Brightopolis. I nearly lost both my Prinplup and Scyther. And of course we can stick together. Like I had said, if we stick together we'll win."

I hope. We'll all have to really fight our hardest here...

She listened to Hannah, nodding along, somewhat impressed that she went out of her way in preparation. "That's good. It'll really help out there. Jgsei is going to pay, and we'll make sure of it. Also, I brought my Prinplup, Mizu, my Scyther, Kakakiri, and my Jigglypuff, Mariko. I'll be fighting using my phaser device and rifle so I thought it would be best to have my three Pokemon be physically oriented to compliment my own combat. What about yo---"

That's when she heard her voice. Ayame turned in time to see Janus begin to lag behind the group, putting himself at a distance. She certainly didn't approve of that, but there was Cygnus. Finally, Cygnus was here. Any calm that she had already worked up from before had seemingly doubled. It was something about Cygnus, a strength, that really allowed Ayame to BE Minerva when she had to be. Not only that, Cygnus had been her crutch in the graveyard mission as well as in Brightopolis. Taking Hannah's hand, she pulled her along to go see Cygnus a smile on her face. "Tell Cygnus and me your Pokemon! We'll all work together!"

"Cygnus! Hey! I was so afraid you weren't going to make it! It's alright that you're late. Borealis and I, along with some prodding from Octans, have already given a little pep talk. Who did you bring with you?"

Like a school girl fishing for gossip. It was like a war wasn't even being fought. Who knew how this looked to Hannah, but if anything, the girl would be safe and be in company of friends with Minerva and Cygnus...

Hannah took in Minerva's words, finding the Praetorian Guard a good person to look up to. Minerva, although timid and shy at times was brave and a very good leader. Her words made Hannah's morale soar high in the skies and Hannah had felt hope glowing intensely inside her. Hannah was glad that Vanishing Point had Minerva with them. The members of Vanishing Point would never have been so cheerful now if it hadn't been for Minerva's words. Yes, it was pleasure to have known her.

With that soft pat on her shoulder, Hannah felt assured that victory would belong to Oppadeka today. "Thanks for being a great leader, Minerva!" Hannah said merrily before grinning, appreciating her.

Hannah continued to listen while Minerva told Hannah of her loyal team of Pokmon. She hadn't paid much attention to the girl's Pokmon back in the graveyard nor did she see them during the War in Brightopolis but she had guessed that they were much more mightier than hers. Hannah waited for Minerva to finish her sentence but then, all of a sudden, her mouth paused and the sentence was cut rather randomly.

Hannah found this behaviour to be very odd. Minerva's attention had seemed to be snatched away by someone or something else. Hannah froze. Was it a threat? Was there a Jgsei Warrior hiding behind all this fog? Hannah moved her index finger onto the trigger, ready to shoot the potential threat to death. Hannah was rather surprised though when Minerva gripped on her free hand and tugged her along.

And the sudden surprise made her accidentally shoot. A narrow, purple beam of light whizzed downward to the ground, narrowly missing a trip through Hannah's foot. Thank God! People may have noticed but Hannah hoped not. She didn't fancy being told off by anyone. Soon, Hannah was lead to another important member of VP; Cygnus, someone Hannah suspected of being Minerva's best friend. Hannah admired Cygnus. She was a good leader and Hannah was thankful that she had scared away the fear of spirits Hannah had experienced while in the graveyard.

"Hai Cygnus. How have you been?" Hannah waved at the brave woman which stood in front of her.

The misfired shot jolted her back to painful reality. The words that followed reminded her of why she was enduring this reality.

The heavy backpack cutting into her shoulders, the sweat accumulating on her palms, the aching in her legs... any wavering of her determination was shed immediately as a friendly smile returned on what had been a face of fatigue a few moments ago, as Satari was finally able to shed that tough exterior as a soldier and act as an entity in the group, and someone that had a sense of belonging in the dreadful march instead of a mere obligation to die for the region. The marching had been a very perfunctory act, and the mission an moral obligation to the trainer that had began afresh here, but it were the people on the battlefield that explained her dedication and effort on the field.

The smile that hung on Satari's lips couldn't be chilled, as she strode over to the two girls heading towards here, leaving Janus to his own thoughts. Cygnus didn't need to be there to witness Minerva transforming into a confident, young lady: she was already the star leader in Satari's eyes, and she knew that much of her strength came from her partner that always tried her best in everything she did. In the jubilation of conciliation, the stress of war was forgotten and the morale that had threatened to plunge was starting to peak again. Satari knew as much as everyone else that none of them could determine the outcome of the war, and their insignificance in the grand scale of things could only be replaced by the gratification they received from the people on the field, who would be grateful to every bullet she grazed, every shot her Pokemon fired and every enemy she could take down.

'It's been a while, Hannah. I'm fine. And Minerva, I'm sorry I couldn't witness your inspiring speech just now! I heard you put Borealis in his place.'

There was no malice involved, only a degree of playful taunting from the Susceptor that wanted to mask her mistake of being so ill-disciplined. Cygnus stopped short of chiding Hannah for the misfiring, choosing to keep quiet so as to maintain the level of confidence they had in the war. And at that point, even the largest machines couldn't quite puncture their courage to defend Murmur Valley with whatever it took. But beneath all the teasing, Cygnus could see the Minerva emerging from a girl that had the capability, but not the courage to step up to her duty.

You've grown a lot, Ayame.

Cygnus was quick to catch herself staring unfocused at Minerva, and swiftly rectified her moment of distraction by pretending to be checking her Pokeballs. She had some - no, many - things to say to the girl right in front of her, but she wasn't sure when was the time to say it, or whether she should even mention them. A deep breath suppressed Satari's inner thoughts, as the Susceptor tried her best to flip to her talkative mode.

'I've seen the spires Octans was tending to. They're huge and pretty secure, but I think that the demand for energy's a bit too steep for sustained use. No worries about the enemies piercing through our defenses: not even that fortress will want to mess with our technology!'

But beneath the tough exterior, did she truly believe that the JGSEI troops couldn't pierce their defenses as they did before? Was there... was there no fear?

I need to protect them. I have no fear.

'I brought along my Smoochum Iris, Amber the Ninetales and Mizuki, my Lapras. I figured that a bit of annoyance and confusion will help disrupt their front lines a bit, and both Iris and Amber have experience in telekinetic tactics. You know, putting Pokemon to sleep or confusing them with Psychic powers... They probably pack a punch with their projectiles too. Mizuki has a pretty solid defense, so she can probably hold her own out there...'

Satari wasn't even sure if she made sense, or if her strategy worked. All she wanted to do was to keep talking, and all her Pokemon knew that she was simply trying to believe that everything would fall in place when they needed to be. It didn't matter if that was the best option for her; it didn't even matter if the telekinetic assault would work.

All she wanted to do was to keep talking, so that their faiths would keep burning bright. Even if they understood that the solid defenses of Opaddeka were collapsing, bit by bit, along with their resolves and courage...

The Spires were the first things you saw.

They were two towering pillars made from some kind of blue-ish metal, very sturdy and very sleek in their industrial kind of way. These tall spires punched up through the fog of the valley, their glowing sapphire tips tinged it all with blue. They were going to watchover this battlefield, but more on them later.

And then there were the pods. Empowered Technique Hyperbolic Extrapolation Rejuventator Pods, said a lab assistant next to one of these floating mechanisms. It looked like a little round, very hitech upside down hovering iron flower pot, with an arm-sized cannon on the top. If one of your pokemon does run out of fire-power, the Professors come up with these ETHER pods. They will be able to come right over and replenish a pokemons reserves in an instant. After use it will take a bit of time to recharge but it should be ready again in not too long. Just call for a booster on your coms if you need one and itll fly right over.

Coms? Oh yeah, every soldier has now been outfitted with a small communication device that just sticks behind their ear. It comes with its own barely visible microphone which is able to pick up the just wearers voice. There are two channels, the main one that allows you to communicate with all soldiers in the unit, so anything you say will be transmitted to every other person if youre talking on that channel. The second is one that feeds directly to the same kinds of devices fitted for your pokemon to receive your voice commands.

So there you are, you all have coms. Useful.

Also, weapons. Some of you already have them, but for those that dont there were two very serious looking soldiers on the field handing out armaments to those in the trainer squad. Unless you are carrying your own team weapon, every soldier is also now given a collapsible rifle and short vibro-combat-knife.

If you do not own your own armor you also all get issued a hitech flak jacket. It may not seem like much more than a thick mauve vest, but it actually generates a thin personal force field that can absorb quite a beating, protect you from bumps and bruises... but probably not much more than that... better than nothing though right?

Arm up, commanded Colonel Bringer. She proceeded to check the field now, Opaddekan forces lining up in their platoons and getting ready. The fog of the valley was everywhere here, but thin enough that you could still see for a fair distance. You were currently on slightly higher ground, a few yards behind the Eastern Spire. The troops could overlook a rather gentle slope that drained into the greater basin of Murmur. Still no sign of the Jgsei forces yet though...

So uh... thats todays mod. Sorry that it took so long and that nothings really happened. I wanted to explain some things first, and let you arm yourselves. More will happen soon!

stuff

PP: So your pokemon have power points in this event. Their attacks have been made more powerful, but are no longer unlimited like people tend to treat them in regular battles. All moves will now have the same number of default PP as they do in the games. I will only bother keeping track of moves that have 15 PP or less in the games though, so theres that. That means if you fired 5 hydro pumps, you will not be able to fire a 6th, because youll have run out of power.

Fortunately there are the ETHER Pods* available that can be used to recharge your PP!

ETHER Pods: There are only 6 pods on the field. A player can call for one pod, in one turn, and recharge all the PP for the moves for one of their pokemon. Itll shoot a blue glowy laser beam from its cannon and re-energize the target pokemon. Its first come first serve, and if one pod has been used it will need one turn to recharge before it can be called upon again.

Weapons: These were mass produced specially by VP on government request and made in a hurry, but not bad workmanship none-the-less. Should you need to use these feel free, the rifle fires laser-like projectiles, has unlimited ammo, but easily overheats so you can only get about 12 shots off before you need to wait for it to cool down until it can be fired again. Each shot does 1-3 :hp worth of damage and has a 20% chance of paralyzing a foe.

The Vibro-combat-knife does 1-3 :hp damage with a 50% chance of causing an opponent to flinch, but youd need to be pretty close to use it.

Note that these weapons are only temporary (as in they'll be gone at the end of the event)

- The local UA Pok'emon admirer -
Darucho noted that many of the people marching almost sullenly, seriously to the destination where they would be doing everything they could to prevent the Jgsieans from taking the Malral district as they had Brightopolis were counter-acting the serious, subdued manner they were moving in by conversing, talking with one-another: a few of them making rather moving speeches, even.

Layton the Natu turned to Darucho for a moment, saying in that mental whisper of his that he always used when talking to the human; Daruchowhy dont you say something as well? I would wager some of the younger folk here might need a sympathetic ear or encouraging word when so much, so much is on the line here Darucho tilted his head to the side a moment at hearing this before shaking his head in a sharp, sudden sort of movement: II dont really know what to say to anyone at a time like this, to be perfectly honest: war is terrible. How could anything I say diminish the tense fact that were going to have to face off against a mostly unknown enemy at any time now? Not to mention that to be optimistic here..it doesnt seem respectful to those poor souls that made the ultimate sacrifice in Brightopoilos, both human and Pokemon

Darucho paused a moment in his explanation to Layton to turn and look to Maikeru, an OME-aligned team-member: hed heard what had happened in the battle of Brightopolis well enough. Those dead had seemed to echo over and over again in his head like some nightmare that he could not wake up from, no matter how much he tried: so many good people and Pokemon dead, all because those Jgseians had not shown mercy to anyone they hadnt cared WHO got in their way, they were all killed no matter what: and this trainer had been one of those whose Pokemon had made the ultimate sacrifice to try and protect the city.

In the end though all those sacrifices and deaths in the battle of Brightopolis had seemed to be mocked by those Jgsiean people they had taken the town despite those valiant efforts anyway. Darucho knew out rightly saying optimistic things in such a serious time might seem ignorant, even mocking of those who died, so he didnt say them but he had hope that if all those here combined their efforts, the Jgseian folk would be successfully driven away and be prevented from taking another city. And those brave sacrifices would not be in vain he would do everything he could to ensure this.

Darucho wanted to go over to that Maikeru and speak with him a moment but as hed said, he had no idea what to say. How could a mere rookie such as himself make such a situation as THAT any easier to take? He couldnt, and he really didnt want his kind intentions to be seen as false sympathy: so he decided that just focusing on following the group and staying close to the other Vanishing Point members and his group of Pokemon he really didnt want his intentions to be seen as false sympathy, therefore he said nothing.

The Spires which provided energy to the technology that their side would be using in the war towered like silent observers of the horrible war that was to come all wars were horrible, and Darucho felt that this one was no exception already, the casualties were high. But they had to stand strong here: if they did not, then the city of Malral would instead reduced to practically rubble, just as Brightopolis had been. There were also pods that would recover their Pokemons ability to use move, but they took a while to recharge after using.

The Pokemons moves on their side would be made more potent and powerful, but at a cost they would be limited, and so those pods were made to keep the ability to use moves up. Everyone on the field had been given communication devices to call them if need be, so that was quite handyjust then, Daruchos silent observation of the devices around was interrupted, a serious-looking solider suddenly walking in his path and silently handing him three things: a collapsible rifle, a short vibro-combat-knife and a hitech flak jacket.

Darucho nodded in silent thanks before putting the two weapons down for a moment while he put the jacket on, then once he had the jacket on, putting the knife into his jean pocket where it would be easy to pull out should hehave to use it, and hoisting the rifle into his hands, so that he would be ready to fire it should things come to that. He had no experience with guns, but the firing mechanism of this thing was simple enough even for someone whod never handled a gun like himself to know how to shoot itbut Darucho honestly did hope he wouldnt have to fire the gun, though he wouldnt be surprised if he did have to fire it

The Colonel proceeded to advise everyone to arm up, checking the field there was no sign of the Jgsieans yet, but Darucho was sure they would come soon enough. There was nothing to do but to wait and prepare as best they could Mia was doing that, still trying to use as many Agilities as she could before the troops showed up, flapping just near Darucho as she did so.

Go for it, run towards it, dive in head first. Live life with no regrets!
For a moment, Steely stared right back at Celeste with the same level of baffled surprise, like she couldn't understand why Celeste was giving her that look. Raijin did his best to try and look back and fourth between them, just as confused but far more likely to say something about it.

What?

"Huh?"

Steely seemed to have forgotten that being able to zap things was not normal, and that not everyone knew that she could do it. If Zelda was here, she would have hung her head and sighed. Luckily, Steely got it. "What, this?" she held her hands out in front of her, and they crackled with small blue arcs of electricity.

Raider waved his paws in the air, settling down finally on the ground again once he'd had enough of that. Fuckin' magnets man, how do they work!? He pranced along with his head high, not sharing in the doom and gloom mood that a lot of folks seemed to have. Steely, while not doom and gloom, just seemed tired.

The thunder beast's ears flicked up when they came upon the spires, and he paused for a moment when they got closer. It was just as well because he stopped right by where folks were passing out things and explaining what everything was. She nodded at the pods, and waved off the weapons and the vest. The lack of a vest was kind of strange, but she had her own rifle slung over her back from her OME days, and then...

"I think this'll be a little more effective then a knife," Steely said to nobody in particular, pulling out a dark gray colored cylinder that looked like a handle of something. But instead of doing anything with it, she just winked at Celeste, and put it back in her coat.

"You can stay up there as long as you want. Not sure if you'll want to be on him when the fighting starts, though... I can't even hold on when he gets up to top speed," she said up to Celeste, while Raijin squinted through the fog.

Waiting waiting waiting.

"Curious" Egrinain commented as she accepted the weapons, unfolding the combat rifle. She'd never really held a weapon before, least of all a military-grade rifle.

"You know how to use that?" Jerome asked.

"Not really" Egrinain admitted, shouldering the rifle and strapping the combat knife to her waist. "Hopefully they made them idiot-proof enough that it won't matter." She looked up at the spire above them, the pulsing, protective dome of the shield offering some comfort. They'd all heard the stories from Brightopolis, all seen the shaky footage of the massive fortress that was even now making its way through Murmur Valley towards them. Egrinain took a deep breath. This was going to be one tough battle.

The General politely turned down the offered weapon while patting the MK16 slung over his shoulder. "No thanks, got my own poison." And by this he meant the three pistols, one rifle, and his own combat knife. There was nothing fancy about any of them, but they were plenty reliable and packed a hell of a lot more punch. As they passed the spires he nodded at Bringer, catching the woman's attention. He was where they diverged, she going ahead and himself hanging back to make preparations. She knew the look, and nothing more needed to be said.

Til'k pulled forward slowly, letting the M12 crawl to a stop until Floyd could feel the heat rolling off its hood. He spared the monster a look and grimaced. While the geneticore was at home behind the wheel, that was not where the alien wanted him. On the field and slaughtering everything in sight was where the science experiment would be best put to use. That meant he would need to drive the SUV though. This was not where Floyd wanted to be either. He wanted to have his fair share at revenge just as much as his troops. He scanned the marching divisions, searching, and when at last his eyeless gaze fell upon his target, a hungry grin threatened to split his skull in two.

Plucking a single pokeball from his belt he released the giant dragon fly. Sporadically she zipped about before settling her multifaceted eyes upon her trainer. Lexx chirped and squealed before launching her self at the alien, plowing into him and shoving him against the grill of the armored car. "Down, girl." He coaxed gently, pushing away the happy bug that had planted her huge fluttering self atop his head. Squashed beneath her giggling weight, he afforded her an easy laugh. He couldn't remember when he'd last felt like laughing. "We're working today, remember?" Lexx didn't look like she remembered much of anything for long. She tilted her head and squeaked at him. Sighing, Floyd pointed to a particular group of marching men and woman. "I want you to find Private Cody Laoidhach and bring him here." He brought out his poketech and showed her a picture of him. "Better hurry. The fireworks could start any minute."

Lexx gave a silly imitation of a salute and vanished in a burst of green light. Floyd could follow the green light trail as it darted about jerkily, seeking out the young man. If Cody could -- if he would -- Floyd would have him drive the SUV. Floyd could then sniper from the vehicle's roof while directing the Private where to angle the HM loaded spotlight. Additionally, with Helsing helping to fuel the spires, he was lacking a reliable translator for the young man. Nor would he afford the psychic the luxury of so easy a job when invading forces needed pummeling. They needed every pokemon fighting, that could. The computer on board the M12 was smart enough to translate spoken words over the com units to a digital message displayed across the vehicle's HUD. The 3D hologram floating over the SUV's dash would assist Cody in staying on top of every aspect of the battle, going wherever the troops needed them the most. Additionally, he could still readily command his own pokemon from the driver's seat.

Now all Floyd needed was for his goofy bug to actually find Cody and bring him back.

The Three

"Yes," Celeste replied as she watched the crackling electricity with fascination, "That."

And, lo, did Celeste begin the journey of knowing that she was friends with superheroes.

She stayed on Raijin's back for a while, watching as the spires came into view and listening to the explanation of the pods carefully. There weren't many of them; she'd have to have her pokemon pace themselves.

Then came the weapons. Celeste caught sight of the handle and smiled a little. She detached her similar, but more slender, object from where it sat at her hip and twirled it a little before putting it back.

The next thing she picked up was a specially-marked capsule. She liked to think that if she could keep ahold of Ares when he was gunning it at full speed, she could handle anything, but she was willing to take Steely's word on this. She tossed the ball, and her Black Tesla Rough Terrain Mount materialized.

Jane flattened her ears and whined, lifting her paws up in rapid succession in respose to the muck. She only looked up after Celeste had given Raijin a final scratch and dismounted. She let out another whine, long and tiny-sounding, and Celeste gently stroked her ears to calm her. "I know, girl. I know. But you've gotta be fast and steady today, okay Jane? I promise I'll recall you if things get bad." That seemed to toughen up the arcanine's nerves, and she stood tall as Celeste pulled herself up and adjusted the black silk bandanna around the dog's fluffy neck.

She took the offered weapons and armor. Steely may have been a walking armory, but Celeste's own arsenal was much smaller. She shrugged off her coat and slipped the vest on underneath it. It didn't make her feel much safer, but she knew she was better off with it than without it; she just hoped that she didn't get close enough to the warriors to need it. The rifle she stared at like some sort of foreign object that may explode at any moment, her hands trembling slightly; she'd told herself she was through with guns, but after shifing it in her hands to look at it from every angle, she slung it across her back. The knife she hooked to belt, silently praying she wouldn't have to stab anyone.

Then, something occured to her about the coming battle. She looked at Steely, more because she was the one who was closest than because her question was only aimed at her. "Does anyone you brought out here have water attacks?"

Then, realizing that that sounded completely strange, she elaborated, "I brought my poliwrath, and he knows Belly Drum. I thought that, with his Water Absorb ability..." She trailed off. She wanted to be able to utilize her pokemon's abilities to their fullest extent, and anything that could stretch the group's supplies out would be good, but she felt a bit selfish now that the question was out of her mouth, since she hadn't even brought her shielders with her.

In pursuit of something she could do for the group, she cocked her head at Alex. "Do you have a mount, Alex?" she asked. Jane looked at the young man, sensing where this was going, and started to brace herself. Oh, she was very strong, and proud of it, but Alex was, 'yknow, really tall.

Octans greedily stole a glance at the monumental Spires. They penetrated the foggy sky as beacons of hope - Opaddeka's next line of defense against Jgsei, and hopefully its last. Octans, despite his inspecting and double checking, only hoped that they would work properly. He snapped out of his trance when he heard the sound of guns clacking into people's hands. The cheap VP duplicate guns were now being doled out to the masses. Suddenly, Octans felt a little self-conscious. As one of the faces of VP, he felt personally responsible for the satisfaction of his customers, even if the guns were being given away just for the fight and would be returned when all this was over. Scratch that, IF all this would ever end.

He regarded the ETHER cannons with mild interest, but was suddenly distracted by the faint sound of a rumbling engine. Through the fog and the crowd of volunteers and army officials, he spied the utility vehicle VP had designed for the General of the OME, Floyd's M12-ARV. Another knot tightened in his stomach, more customers to please. Granted, this would be the armored vehicle's ultimate test: tearing through Murmur valley to make a stand against Jgsei invaders. Octans silently hoped that nothing went wrong with the vehicle. There would be hell to pay if it were to break down mid-battle, or whatever the Scavian version of hell was.

The Praetorian Guard turned back to his band of Vanishing Point members. "Alright." He said decisively. "While everyone is suiting up for battle, let's take this time to ready ourselves. Now I don't want anyone getting separated from any other VP member, we all need to back ourselves up. I'm going to pair you up and your main objective besides winning this war will be to always stick with and back up your partner, alright?" It was almost an adolescent idea, 'the buddy system', but it was important that no one had to face a load of Jgsei warriors on their own.

"Borealis and I will be Team Earth. Minerva, Hannah, you two are Team Wind. Janus and Darucho, you be Team Water. And Cygnus and..." He trailed off, searching for an eighth head. "Damnit! Where's Signe?" In all reality, he should've given up on the Vanguard from the start, that girl couldn't keep her head straight if it was bolted to her neck. "Cygnus, I was going to make you and Signe Team Fire, but you can just join Team Wind with Minerva and Hannah." He nodded, deeming his decision a job well done.

"I can't stress this enough people, do not leave your partner for any reason!" He shot Janus an accusing look. "Keep in touch with the communicators, we'll try to stick together as we are now for as long as we can." He glanced apprehensively into the fog ahead, back at the M12-ARV, and then up at the Spires. Hopefully the gods were in Opaddeka's favor and not the enemy's.

So you wanna be a master?
Cerb quietly raised an eyebrow at Steely's antics and Raijin, but didn't say anything about it. "Yeah, I know. Gotta do what ya gotta do, right?" She said to Celeste with a shrug, pausing a moment to reach up and pull Sparky off her head. Nothing says 'target' like wearing a bright yellow rodent for a hat, after all. "And you stop being annoying."

"Pikaaaa." Sparky kicked his paws and sulked when he was plunked down in front of Cerb and safely nestled into Epona's neck fur. The Arcanine whined and looked nervously around at everyone as they began to walk again, heading into the fog towards the spires. She had never been fond of trekking her way through the marsh and muck, even though she seemed to end up doing it quite often.

Cerb dropped the rifle like it was something venomous when handed one, and glared at it down in the muck while Epona whined and nervously shuffled her paws. The knife she could deal with, eventually hooking it onto the back of her belt and then trying to pretend it didn't exist. The explanation of the pods boiled down to 'don't stress the Pokemon' in her head. Cerb could hope that she managed her resources well enough to not need one of those things.

"There's a friend for you, Epona," she commented, seeing another Arcanine appear on the field. Steely had also mentioned Ben, but Cerb didn't see the white Arcanine appearing anywhere just yet. Perhaps because she blended in too well to be seen. Epona wasn't caring, the dog gleefully prancing over to try and sniff noses with Jane. Finally, somebody else would could appreciate her boat of nervousness in this venture. Cerb just held on to her fur to keep from falling off and exchanged glances with Sparky. The Pikachu pricked his ears at the question being asked.

Cerb debated mentioning that Sparky was a rain dancer and could sling water as well as any fish. She settled for keeping her mouth shut for now, since cutting in would probably be considered rude. Didn't want to make Steely any more crackly than she already was, after all.

Rubin's Team and PP

Approaching the Spires set up to defend against the enemy, Rubin would now further get a large shock of revelation that he was a participant in this battle. "Ah--a gun?!" Rubin exclaimed the second the rifle was shown and placed into his hands. He stared down at it wide-eyed and stunned incidently, but despite it being out of place for a trainer to work as a foot soldier, his spirit of youth would show quickly. He began to lightly throw the rifle up and down under his hands, up and down to feel the weight, to see if it was real, as if he couldn't believe that he was really given this.

"Woooow...." When you were young, were you not fascinatined by high-tech items? That was probably the reason why such dangerous weapons were considered "cool" to kids, they were sleek and similiar looking to a new toy car or maybe a minature computer.

Of course, when around or doing something dangerous, a little guide back to order was needed. Treecko on Rubin's shoulder nudged the kid in the face with his snout, stopping him from what he was doing before the next few bona fide soldier items were given to him. He had to collect these items while listening to the lab assistant about the ETHER pods, and luckily Rubs was able to break the explanation down to one simple detail -- they were there to refresh his pokemon. Treecko fitted the com behind his owner's ear, Zigzagoon sniffed around the flak jacket hugging the body, which Rubin couldn't help but stare down at with the same amount of awe as the rifle. "This is serious, really serious." He had said. Combat vests were naturally padded and covered with pockets and buckles for attaching items. To see it on a twelve year old seemed bizarre.

Lastly, Spearow pecked at the shealhed combat knife hanging near his left shoulder. Rubin bit his lower lip, "I hope I don't have to use that." He said, then smiled, "I will be depending on you guys, okay?" As Rubin gave each pokemon a look, they nodded their heads. The kid held his rifle up to his chest and continued marching until the platoons reached a fogged area behind the East Spire. Now everyone would wait, which was painful. Lots of questions would plague Rubin's mind. He may have heard it all on the news, but what we was he going to expect facing the true terror that brought down Brightopolis in the last battle? What was he going to see? What was he going to do? What was going to happen to him, to a twelve-year-old rookie trainer?

His feelings, it was the agony of anticipation, from suspense. "Erghhh!" Rubin rubbed the sides of his face and looked up at the closest spire, which emitted a light of hope. They were important devices used to defend everybody, but either Rubin couldn't recall or didn't catch that part pertaining to how they were specifically supposed to help.

"Um, ex-excuse me." The boy had to reach out for someone nearby, tap him or her, and ask, "Those towers...how do they work again?"

Hannah smiled friendlily at Cygnus as she spoke and took in all of the important notes since she knew the Praetorian Guard was very wise. Hannah remembered one of the Pokemon Cygnus mentioned, recalling it from their past mission in the Graveyard. It was that very Smoochum which had helped calm Jared down when he had been mourning for the loss of his Drifloon. Singing enemies to sleep would be a very useful move to pull off considering that the enemies liked to play rough and tough.

Hannah's Misdreavus, Monferno and Snover would also do a good job dealing with all the dangers of Jgsei. She had learned from her mistakes and she was ready to correct things in the second round. This time, of course, Oppadekka would prevail and justice would be served throughout the land. Hannah spoke soon after Cygnus finished speaking, "I brought along my Misdreavus, Monferno and Snover. My Misdreavus, Melody," she said as she pointed to the ghost type floating next to her, "Can float pretty high and she can also perform moves from a distance. I believe that if she keeps flying high and avoids any battles, she'll be awesome."

Melody nodded eagerly, giggling slightly, revealing the excitement bouncing around in her emotions. "My Monferno can do quite a number of physical moves and I believe that he should do Melee Damage while my Snover, like Melody, should attack from a distance. I'd like it if he stayed by my side during the battle since he's still new to this world."

Hannah ended her thoughts when she noticed the VP Spires. The butterflies in her stomach grew bigger with every step she took and Hannah's eagerness also began to expand, slowly but surely. Meanwhile, Melody felt carefree and ready to rape some minds from above. Jiyu shook around his Pokeball, enthusiastically bouncing around, excited for Round Two to begin. Lucky was apparently the only one not affected. He was still a baby and he didn't understand the world much which was okay. Babies were cute like that.

That didn't mean he wouldn't attack though. He would prove to be a decent attacker as he dealt blow after blow after blow with his gusts of chilly winds. Yes, they were ready. "United we stand, divided we fall." Melody whispered to Hannah, trying her best to keep Hannah happy and cheerful. With those short but useful words, Hannah felt energy replenish inside her and she felt like she could take on the whole world. Hannah gave a smile at Melody, Cygnus and Minerva, "Let's do this, guys. I'm sure we'll be able to win if we fight as one team. Remember, united we stand, divided we fall. I'll be relying on you guys to aid my Pokmon out of trouble when they're in it and I'll make sure to do the same to you."

Hannah could only hopes those six words would help reenergize them just as they had reenergized her. Hannah gave the two one pat on the back before concentrating on Octans who was apparently splitting VP in teams. Hannah was glad that Minerva and Cygnus would be fighting by her side. Hannah gave the two one last sweet smile to show that she was glad that they were working together. "So, do you guys have any plans?" she asked, watching the clearing with a wary expression. They weren't going to lose. Never.

Put him in his place...?

Ayame just smiled and chuckled a little, nodding along to the statement. She didn't really consider that to be putting him in his place. She more so just thought that she was helping him and adding on to the little pep talk that he was trying to give his team since Octans hadn't arrived yet. Either way, she let it slide as Cygnus revealed as to what her team was going to be for this battle. She remembered Iris and Mizuki well, but never met Amber the Ninetales. All that did was remind her of her own little Vulpix egg that needed to be hatched.

Their little conversation was cut short however by a brief announcement about weaponry and armor if one didn't already have any. Luckily, Ayame already had her own battle armor as well as a gun, all via the VP armory. The only bit of weaponry she did take though was the vibro-combat knife. That would definitely be useful in hand-to-hand combat, which was the primary method she planned on using for this battle.

Octans broke the silence between the VP with his own words and strategy. Stay together and watch each others backs. It was a simple buddy system that most things in life required to a degree. That wouldn't be hard. And then the teams were assigned. Ayame smiled at Hannah, glad to have the girl on her team, only to smile even more at the chance to have both Hannah AND Cygnus together on the team, Team Wind. This was good. Ayame checked her com, it worked fine, her phaser was in tact and her body armor was strong as ever.

All prepared...now just have to come up with a strategy for our own little team...

Hannah told what her Pokemon were and what their strengths were as well as adding in her own bit of encouraging words. Everyone was encouraged and everyone meant business. There was no way that any of them would lose or let any of the others lose. No way. With a smile, Ayame took a deep breath and held her hand up, though not saying anything quite yet. It was obvious she was thinking of something. "Okay, I think I have an idea on a battle strategy..."

She looked around once more, once to Hannah, once to Cygnus, and then finally just staring in the general direction of the two of them. "Cygnus, you're Pokemon seem to be more projectile and long-distance oriented. The status effects are definitely a nice touch. So, you will be our long-range fighter. All my Pokemon are geared towards the front lines and short-distance. So, I'll handle that. And, as you mentioned Hannah, you will cover all three. Monferno on the front lines, Misdreavus in the air, and Snover long distance by your side."

Minerva took a breath, pondering over something else, something to help them be even more effective. "Also, considering we're a team of three, that boosts our power but also hinders us. If we try to keep track of each other too much we'll lose sight of the battle. Hannah, watch my back for anything that gets passed me. Cygnus, watch Hannah's back in case something comes from the sides. And as for me? I'll be out on the front lines too fighting so I'll be watching your back Cygnus in case anything gets by that you don't see. Sound good?"

Minerva didn't even know if she was making sense, but hopefully that plan was sound and made sense. To her, it definitely did, but if there was something wrong in that plan, than maybe the other two would pick it out and they could tweak it now before the Jgsei came slithering out of their hiding places.

All she could do was look up at the VP Spires now and pray that they too would be the clincher to their victory over the Jgsei. Maybe, just maybe it would help bring peace just one step closer to their home. Otherwise, who knows what could be next. Minerva wouldn't let that happen though, never ever. That was the unpredictability of War...

Blinded by the magic.
Team!

Her hands felt the rough, silver blade of the hardly polished knife, but she knew she was wielded with more than things that could cut and make people bleed.

The Spires served as a beacon, not of the hope for a brighter future, but of the hope of the evasion of that bloody defeat that would only cede the happiness of the many other Opaddekeans to an unknown force that seemed to be ruling over with an anarchic structure. The tightest defences meant little to the man who lived in the humble house over yonder; all that concerned them was the fact that someone was still there, fighting, and trying to convince him that this place was worth staying. Cygnus took pride of the Spires, but the Satari inside her felt guilty for knowing that the pride was only superficial. When it came to the crunch time, Satari couldn't find a reason to believe in the Spires over her comrades. She couldn't believe in monstrous, yet lifeless, structures; she couldn't believe in something that couldn't be sincere for itself.

And the guilt of her rank weighed her down, as she suddenly felt an inexplicable urge to fight the war as Satari and not Cygnus. She accepted the VP direct order not because she had to, but because she believed that the only way to overcome their trial was to bond together. And yet, why was she doubting her commitment to the VP, even now? Did the war shock her senses, or did she finally discover where she had wanted to go? Or, was it just a temporary disillusionment that clouded her eyes?

Satari looked at Ayame, and she suddenly felt like stripping herself of her position. They called her a leader. But beside Ayame, who could pull herself together and inspire the company despite her own fears, she was almost nothing. A self-absorbed, disillusioned fool that couldn't even promise, to the bottom of her heart, that she would protect the Point's honor over herself.

And when she realized that she was fighting for selfish reasons, her heart had hardened into steel.

But then, as she looked at Ayame and Hannah, she asked herself.

Who isn't selfish?

And suddenly, she knew what she should do.

'I'll be the rear guard of the detail. Don't worry, it's no problem for me.'

She didn't see Amber nodding quietly in her Pokeball, or the little Smoochum lying in her Pokeball and reserving her energy. But she felt them. The desire to protect, the desire to serve. If she were to be honest with herself, she never entered the Vanishing Point in total altruism. She never entered the organization with a full commitment to die for it. She had her own reasons for doing so, and she did it well. All that mattered, though, was the point of convergence: that they were doing the same thing together.

Suddenly, she understood what Borealis was trying to say and who he really was.

'Time to make the soldiers regret, girls.'

This time, her smile would never perish. Even in death.

(I so fail. .3 :gexp obtained so far.)

There was a rather long pause, as Ben cocked his own head to the side, Jax continuing to whuffle from time to time at Egrinain's hair, fascinated with the familiar-not scent. That was some major deja vu. Considering Egrinain's broken-off question, and Jax's continued sniffing interestedly, at least he wasn't the only one. Weird. Still, as he shook it off a few moments later to take Egrinain's hand with a small smile in her general direction, they were accosted by someone giving them toys. Like a com. Nifty. He'd have to try using that to let Steely and them know he made it in a little. Or something. Maybe. The rest of it...

"..." Ben found himself being presented with a knife, a gun, and a flak jacket. He sighed after a little and put the coat on and took the knife a bit gingerly, but flat out refused to touch the gun. "Keep it, pal." He shook his head at the surge of irritated disbelief and moved to cut off the protest. "Look, I'm blind, okay? I'm not gonna be shooting it." Ben could tell the fellow was now giving him one of those 'then why the hell are you out here, pal?' sorts of looks, but ignored it as best he could. Friendly fire wasn't, after all.

Sure, he could feel Auras, but that didn't necessarily differentiate friend from foe unless he recognized the Aura specifically. And a moment later, as if to prove to the fellow that he was more than capable (since apparently sitting on top of a white arcanine wasn't enough), there were two flashes of light, and he was flanked on either side by warriors, one a steel jackal, the other a psychic blademaster.

Lancelot eyed the soldier, gaze narrowing slightly, not looking too happy to be here, gaze scanning the crowd furtively. Nope, no sign of Eisen. Which was a good thing. He stood a bit aloof, but ready. He wasn't about to let another person die if he could help it. Anubis on the other hand, lifted his muzzle and stared straight at the soldier challengingly, bell about his neck jingling a cheerful counterpoint to his defiant stance. "You got a problem?" he barked, broadcasting it comprehensibly to everyone nearby.

"You didn't have to do that, Anubis..." Ben commented quietly as the soldier retreated at last, toying with the knife uneasily. He hated weapons, really he did. He shoulda picked up some of the defensive stuff Steely and Alex had come up with for BT, though...another oversight he was going to have to fix when he had the chance. Oh well. Too late now, but that was fine, really. He'd left Mystique in the care of Caligo, Faith, and their twins, as well as under the eyes, likely, of Zelda and all of Cal's half-brothers. He didn't want the little shapeshifter causing more chaos. Even if he wondered if she came from the same place as the Jgsei.

"He was being a jerk." Anubis sniffed a little, tail lashing back and forth once or twice, as he looked around. "Where's Steely and Alex and everyone?" He blinked a little at Egrinain as he spotted her, and waved a paw after a moment in greeting.

"Over thataway." Ben waved in the general direction he'd sensed Raijin's Aura with a shrug. "Jax wanted to make friends with Egrinain here, though. Speaking of which, you can stop slobbering all over her at any time, girl." Jax hufffed, pulling her nose away from the brown hair for the umpteenth time, looking huffy. She wasn't slobbering. Yet.

Ben considered dismounting, but figured that in this case, it was best not to. Having the mobility of being mounted when he was blind probably would be a must. He could go join the rest of BT and co, but Egrinain didn't seem to have anyone else around at the moment to team up with, so he wasn't going to wander off and leave her alone, either. "You can let 'em know where we are, if you want, pal." Anubis flicked his ears, glancing around again, seeming to reach the same conclusion Ben already had, staying put for the moment. Ben shrugged a little. "Anyhow, good to meet you, Egrinain. This is Anubis, and that's Lancelot. Don't let him scare you too much. He's just a little bitter in general." The gallade humphed softly, turning his attention away from the group, pretending they didn't exist. "And of course, Jax you've met." The arcanine, whose nose had been inching towards Egrinain again curiously, shifted away in a hurry, contriving to look as innocent as possible, tail waving like a plumy banner.

"Sour grapes." The lucario huffed, watching the other warrior warily. Ben chuckled a little.

"Give him a break. And on the upside, as I understand it, guns are generally point and click technology, so probably not too hard to figure out. I just would kind of end up failing at the point portion of it, and all." Ben shrugged a little, tilting his head back toward Egrinain, though his gaze ended up fixed somewhere just above her head. He couldn't help it. But he was trying.

"Oh. Yeah, I've been able to do that for a while. I'm surprised you never knew," she scratched her head while she thought about it. She'd never really traveled with Celeste, never gone on any missions... and during the battle at Brightopolis Celeste had been gone with the rest of the OME folks. Hum.

Raider and Steely both looked at Jane when she appeared, and Steely grinned at the sight of the dog. While she couldn't ride Raider since he was going to go into battle...

Aw. Though I guess it's better, so you guys won't get hurt, the big cat rumbled, fidgeting and flexing.

"Besides, I do have Becquerel," Steely brought out her own rough terrain mount. The big mightyena materialized in a flash of green lightning, and looked around, "So you don't have to worry."

I guess, he squinted at Bec, though the dog was unphased by anything. Even when Steely climbed up onto his back and patted his white neck.

Raider padded forward a few paces, trying to look through the fog while they waited. He was listening, waiting, tense and ready to go. Steely watched him while she considered Celeste's question.

"I have um. Delta, the dragonite. She knows aqua tail," she paused, "But that's it. I got her, Backers, and Raijin, obviously. He knows Rain Dance?"

Janus looked up as the last Susceptor arrived, adding her own two cents to the jumble of illy prepared pep talk from the Vanishing Point leadership team. Before the ninja could find the words to a witty, degrading remark to make on the side, however, Cygnus addressed him directly.

The male Susceptor was rendered temporarily stunned, Cygnus' words having struck true. It wasn't exactly how he would've phrased it, and there certainly was a little more complexity to it in his mind, but she definitely captured the real reason to his disinterest.

The pent-up frustration inside threatened to erupt, but Janus bit it back. He wasn't about to give Cygnus the satisfaction of dictating his actions, nor was he going to rise up to the bait. As he pondered what to do, he was spared the decision as the entire army quickly arrived deep into the would be battle-ground, the VP spires that reached at the skies a definite marker.

Army officials began handing out weapons, from which the ninja was immediately drawn to the knife and pocketed it. Somebody was explaining something about some ETHER pods, but the shinobi barely paid any attention. Octans proceeded to organize the VP members into small squads, shooting him a rather obvious accusing glare as he was announced to be "Team Water" with somebody named Darucho.

He didn't know the member, and certainly didn't care enough. He quite understood what his superior meant, but there was really nothing holding him to that responsibility.

"This Darucho guy better be able to keep up then," he shot back bitterly. This time, it was rather out loud, just so the entire VP was clear on his intentions, "If he gets himself cornered in some impossible situation, I ain't risking my neck to save him if the chances aren't high. Better one of us make it out alive than both being dead. I intend to get out of this alive as much as anybody else."

So Borealis was with Octans. Minerva was with Cygnus. He got a Vanguard. Wonderful.

The spires were impressive. They stood dominate in the mist and would provide that wonderful protection Quinn and his team would need for the battle. Saving precious set up time that he could devote to attacking or setting up counters.

The weapons being handed out interested him, rifle especially. The collapsable weapon was light and easy adjust for people with longer arms like him. Shouldering it he eyed down the sight, some of the practice and rules of guns he had got in the KSA coming back to him. Hopefully all these guns were sighted properly. It would be awkward if all the shots coming from the lines of trainers veered slightly to the left.

To the vibro-Knife, Quinn gave an eyebrow. He knew that he wasn't going to be particularly useful in hand to hand combat, especially against trained warriors like the Jgsei. Still, some defense was better than none he knew that all to well. He took the knife and holder attached it to his belt.

Okay, i'm equipped and armed. We're on a nice hill with a slight high ground advantage. We have numbers and... He noticed an armored vehicle roll up with the lines of troops. Some mech too, nice. Anything else? He wondered what else Kela could copy to give her some boosts for the battle...

"Signe? Do any of your pokemon have boosting moves? Kela knows mirror move and can copy the move and get the benefit from it. It'll be a great advantage if all our pokemon are boosted to their highest skill level for the fight..."

An unnatural silence crept across the group when Janus had expressed himself. Octans understood that his ninja training made him prefer to work alone, but as long as the shinobi wanted to be a part of Vanishing Point, especially in times of war, he would have to learn how to accept teamwork. Furthermore, if he wanted to be a Susceptor, he would have to set a better example for his subordinates, and not by his own standards, but by VP's.

Octans rolled over to Janus and did his best to pull him aside without forcefully grabbing his arm (despite his feelings, he didn't want to get on the wrong side of a trained ninja). Quietly, so that no one other than the Susceptor could hear, he said to Janus, "In case you hadn't noticed, we're at war here." A strange smile was spread across his face, one that showed he wasn't afraid to throw his authority around. "It does no one any good if you're endorsing 'every man for themselves'. If you find yourself in an impossible situation, I'm sure you have it in you to turn that into a probable escape. I bet you ten to one that Darucho over there would find no issue with risking his neck to save your sorry butt if need be. Luckily for you, I don't see anything that drastic happening today, what with the Spires on our side, but if his team needs back-up, I want you backing him up." He left it at that and stalked away from the ninja, giving a curt nod to Darucho, as if to say "Don't let Janus get to you, do your best." Which, frankly, was a lot to convey in a simple gesture, but it was all he could think to do.

Signe took a look at the weapons she received, the spires currently out of her mind. Both were useful, but she definitely preferred the rifle. She held it up, grinning as she did. Oh, yes, she was going to enjoy this thing. A lot. The knife was a welcome addition too, though and she made sure not to forget about it.

She paused when Quinn spoke up. She frowned and turned to Sanshiro, who was still being a jerk. She sighed and walked over to the Zangoose, pulling him up. Sanshiro glared at her, but went along with it anyway. So, Signe pulled him along with her back to Quinn.

Sanshiro here has Swords Dance. You can do that for me, right Sanshiro? He crossed his arms, but nodded. Signe smiled and then turned to Prisca. The little Kabuto looked up nervously. And could you toughen yourself up a bit? She nodded - or at least made an up-and-down motion with her body and proceeded to harden her shell.

Like that, right? she asked Quinn. Im afraid Hephi doesnt have a stat boosting move. The Magnemite buzzed sadly, his magnets drooping. Dont worry, Hephi! Your time to shine comes later!

"Its cool. I'm sure Magnemite is tough enough with that Steel coating. He wouldn't need a defense boosting move." Quinn smiled at the floating magnet how do they fucking work and turned his head to Kela on his shoulder. "Okay, you heard her, copy along."

Kela nodded and watched Zangoose first intently as he went threw his routine. While Quinn had seen Robert, his Gligar do something similar in the Second Melee so long ago, it was still very different in terms of tone and style. Clearly a more violent base than what he remembered. Then again, Zangoose were not know for their cuddly behavior.

Kela suddenly landed between Quinn and the Zangoose, watching the end of the red and white pokemons warm up. With a gleam in her eye she seemed to have had copied ever movement in the one viewing and was perfectly replicating it, even it it looked a little silly.

The Kabuto was much simpler, retreating into it's shell and seemed to tense up with a mild glow emanating from it's shell. Kela copied this, again in a some what silly fashion. By making a convincing looking shell of feathers and tensing up, the slight glow was replicated and when she pulled out of it her feathers seemed to have a slight shine to them.

"Okay, you still got the Defense Curl in memory?"
"Tai." She nodded and she fluttered back to his shoulder.
"Keep preforming that as many times as you can until you don't think you think you're good."
Nodding again she recalled from memory the movements she made and started to preform them again on Quinn's shoulder. It looked sillier from the shoulder of a human, but at thig event Quinn doubted that anyone would care what a lone Taillow was doing.

"Thanks Signe, this'll be a big help for the team." He grinned as he watched Kela on his shoulder being silly.

The Three

Celeste slowly raised a single eyebrow at Cerby when she dropped her rifle and glared at it. She thought she had gun issues; the other woman could have just said no. Part of her wanted to make some sort of snarky remark, like looking at the stunned soldier and asking if she could have Cerb's rifle, but, given that she was potentially marching to her death out here, she swallowed the words.

Jane's tail wagged. Epona was kind of runty from the point of view of one of the specially-bred canines, and the massive dog lowered her head slightly to sniff noses. Runty was okay though, she decided, because she was sure that Epona could breathe fire like a proper arcanine, and that more than made up for a few pounds of muscle. She whuffed a soft hello, then gave a full-fledged bark at the sight of Becquerel. They were turning into a proper pack of riding dogs.

Celeste was thinking something similiar to Jane. A group of dog riders racing off into battle...the mental image made her a little less terrified. The offer for Alex to ride with her was left to hover in the air, but she was pretty sure that, if he didn't have a mount, he'd probably be on Bec with Steely.

Celeste bit her lip. "Aqua Tail should work, as long as she doesn't hit him too hard." The mental image of Poliwrath flying across the valley wasn't pretty. "Rain Dance doesn't really...work with Water Absorb. Just Rain Dish." How that worked was a question for the scientists, and not something she cared to ponder right now. Time and place was also the reason she wasn't grilling Steely about the fact that she was apparently part electric type. "Changing the weather may not be a good idea, anyway." She gave a quick glance of the nearby battlefield, what of it she could see with the ever-present fog. Making it rain could cause trouble of allied fire types, and grass types trying to use Solarbeam, unless everyone in the unit was forewarned; it wasn't really her decision, though.

A bit of paranoia raising its ugly head, Celeste unhooked one of the balls on her belt. Aphrodite appeared in a flash of light, then looked down at the muck she was standing in and let out a faint sigh. At the sight of familiar humans and pokemon, she raised a paw and waved slightly. "Hi." The one word was soft, feminine, and carrying that faint hint of cool detachment Aphrodite rarely seemed to lose. It was also, however, in perfect english.

Not caring for whatever curious stares and questions may follow, the rabbit sauntered over to where Raijin was staring out ahead and joined him, large ears trained to the slightest noise, muscles tense and quivering in anticipation of battle.

Steely was completely surprised when Becquerel barked back at Jane and nearly fell off of him in surprise. So he did have a mouth! She'd just seen it! How bizarre. The white mightyena wagged his tail too, padding the few steps over to stand next to Jane and look at Cerby and Epona. Without visible eyes.

Frac needs to post but he's so busy. :( Oh well.

"Delta can be really gentle. She is most of the time anyways. I'm sure she can do it well enough. Actually now that I think about it..."

She called out her other two pokemon, Delta and Backers. The dragonite smiled and touched down, waving at everyone merrily. Backers shook off a little, like she wasn't fond of all the moisture in the air, and looked up at Steely. "Yeah, we're getting ready to rumble. Dance it up, you two."

It was kind of a weird command, but the two each had some kind of dance they could do. Delta called on the power of the dragons, while Backlash only raised her attack. While they were doing that, Steely looked over at Raijin.

The thunder cat turned his head to look at Aphrodite, and nodded at the bunny.

"Oi, Raider. Calm yourself a bit and that'll help you focus," she called over to him. He twitched an ear and realized quickly what she meant. He closed his eyes and took a meditative breath, crackling a little with electricity in his thundercloud cape.

"Making it rain might not be such a bad idea," she mumbled sideways to Celeste, watching the purple cloud spark a little more, "Though I noticed that armor seemed to be electrical resistant. Those frogs were half ground type too," Steely looked down at Bec's neck, stroking the silky white fur, "It all seems kind of intentional, huh?"
