Chance was prancing around, his new blue coat glittering. He had wanted to be a glaceon for such a long time, and now he was. He didn't care that he was a smaller-than-average specimen with big, round eyes and fluffy fur. In fact, he loved it; he was a powerful glaceon and still hadn't lost his trademark charm.

Aphrodite was curled up, holding her adopted eggs, and she watched the canine dance about with a small giggle. He could be so silly sometimes, but that was part of what she liked about him, and she was glad he was happy. She looked back down at her eggs as one, the pichu egg, wiggled a bit in her lap, and she curled her arms all the more protectively around it. "Today the day, little one?" she inquired softly.

Chance paused, looking at her, and walked over to peer at the egg. He had mixed feelings toward it, given that it was his. Thinking too hard about it, or being within ten feet of Jupiter, tended to make him extremely uncomfortable. On the other hand, Affy loved it, and seeing the affectionate look on her made him happy. "You're a good mother, you know that?"

The look of joyful surprise on her face was breathtaking as she tore her eyes from the precious egg. "You...think so?"

He nodded. "Of course. You just have to look at Dizzy, or Duke, or..." He lightly placed his paw on the shell, and he didn't know if the extra warmth was because it was close to hatching or because his body was colder now. "Or see you with whoever this is going to be."

Aphrodite put her paw over his, smiling sweetly. "Thanks. You're exaggerating, but thanks." She looked away for a moment, then glanced up again almost sheepishly. "You ever think about...?"

Chance's eyes went wide, and his head suddenly snapped in the direction of the berry plants and the pink feline lounging around them. "What's that Jackie? Coming!" He took off so fast, he nearly left behind a cartoony dust-cloud in his wake. Affy just sighed and stroked the egg again.

Jacqueline looked up lazily from where she was lying on the floor. Her bandaged tail was tucked protectively against her body, and the trio of berry pots, one with a full-grown tree and two with seedlings, were arranged around her in a triangle to form a fortress around her and the watering can. Chance squeezed between two of the pots to join her, blushing a dark blue. "Hey, Jack."

"Hey, loverboy." The two of them had become fast friends, mostly because it was difficult to be afraid of a pint-sized dog who had yelped and darted under a bench upon seeing her.

Chance winced at the nickname, and tried to find a comfortable way to lie down without ending up on top of her. He managed, just barely, by nudging one of the pots a milimeter out of alignment. "Have you ever been in a relationship where the other pokemon wanted to move faster than you did?"

Jack laughed. "Relationship? I grew up feral, buddy. My life was ruled by the four F's, and I don't plan on going back to it." At the blank look she received, she elaborated, "Fight, flight, feed, and...breed." She shook her head. "Look, just be glad she likes you for who you are and doesn't just drag you into a closet to make little bunnies." She looked over at Celeste, whose pleading expression was being met by Jasmine's deadpan stare as Guildenstern lazed, deaf to everything, on the ground by them. "Or that Celeste hasn't asked her to as a favour to her boss."

Jasmine finally gave a dramatic roll of her eyes and walked off, Guildenstern slowly hauling himself to his feet and following. Jacqueline grabbed the watering can with her mouth and forepaws and carefully watered the plants. "Speaking of Celeste, I think she's going on some errands. If you want a moment away from the missus, better tag along." She, herself, was quiet content to stay here, since both the weasel at their trainer's heels and her new big striped dog scared the life out of her, and she had a job to do anyway.

Chance nodded and squeezed out of the plant fortress to scamper after Celeste. Jackie just sighed and pulled on the pot he'd moved, setting it back in its proper place.

Celeste had already let out the seventh member of their lineup, 'Plain Jane' the riding arcanine. Shilo had found a fairly comfortable spot on the dog's head (boy would Jasmine be upset if she knew that the sneasel had taken her favourite spot) and Celeste was just beginning to join her when she noticed him. "You coming too, Chance?" He barked and nodded, so she hoisted him up and sat with him curled against her stomach.

"Alright, girl," she said, nudging Jane's sides with her feet. The striped dog squirmed in anticipation and woofed softly. "Not too fast, okay?"

Then she took off, and Chance wondered exactly what Jane's idea of 'not too fast' was. Or exactly what Celeste's idea of it was.

Outside of the center it was mostly humid, the air damp and stagnant from rolling in across the marsh. But farther away, on the side of town closer to the shore, the air was lighter and less oppressive. Cool breezes could even be felt blowing in from the water, smelling vaguely like algae and muck. You know, typical things that are found in giant lakes. Nobody was out on the street, the roads were damp underpaw, and a thin layer of fog swirled around across the ground.

Just be lucky today is a somewhat clear day. It gets a lot worse than this.

At least nobody was around, which meant that there were no obstacles for the giant stripey dog to worry about barging into or swerving around. All she had to do was not slip on the strangely squishy pavement or run into something masked by fog, and Jane would be all set.

0.2 :gexp2 ((Confirming Cerby's Bulbasaur egg and Steely's pots and mulch, to be done IC later.))

Before we return to Jane and her passengers, allow us to turn our gaze to the Pokemon Centre they just left.

Crack!

"Jack! Help me!"

Jacqueline, like all cats, had a slightly cruel streak, and it was that, combined with the knowledge that the situation was not nearly as dire as her friend thought it was, that caused the skitty to savour Aphrodite's extraordinarily rare moment of panic for a half-dozen moments before she turned her head only as much as absolutely required to see her and inquired innocently, "With what?"

Aphrodite scowled, even with the pichu egg in her arms doing a jig, and Jackie smirked lightly. "Get Celeste's bag. It's got her baby supplies."

The smirk vanished, and her mirth instantly died. She stared at the doorway leading to the hallway their trainer's room was in, ears flattened in the feline equivalent of a scowl. That was also the door the breeding pair had vanished down. She got to her feet slowly, tail still tucked protectively against her body, and moved to follow the less-than-a-suggestion while promising to herself that if she saw anything private she'd take her revenge on the warrior rabbit.

Aphrodite sat down with the egg in her lap. She gave a sideways glance at the other one, muttering a, "You stay in there," before focusing her attention on the cracking shell. It was fairly slow-going regarding the rate of the spiderwebbing cracks, which was both a relief and a worry. "You can do it," she murmured, carefully prying a shard of shell loose. She received a small shock for her trouble, but it barely hurt and only served to exicte her. "That's it. Bust out of there. Mommy's on the other side."

"I hate you," Jackie proclaimed, slightly muffled by the strap of the bag she was hauling. Aphrodite ingored her and immediately snatched the pack, shifting through the random junk to pull out of towel. "They were right in the middle--"

Snap! Zap! Crack! Jacqueline was cut off when the eggshell on one side of the egg shattered and crumbled in response to a small discharge of electricity. She knew it was a baby, and she liked babies, but she still jumped back involuntarily, fur on end and guarding her tail. A slime-covered pichu, sneezing and gasping, fell into his adoptive mother's lap, and all objections from the cat's end were silenced as Aphrodite started to clean him off with the towel.

The pichu let out a loud sneeze once he'd been properly dried off, a few sparks flying from his cheeks, and blinked up at the lopunny holding him. She wrapped her arms around him, like she'd done his egg, and held him close to her, radiating joy. "There's my little prince," she whispered to him. He squeaked a little and snuggled closer into her warm fur.

Jacqueline made a soft sound and wandered a bit closer, only to hop back a little when the baby noticed and looked at her. He squeaked and cocked his head to one side. She mewed and raised one paw in a kind of sheepish wave. Then something occured to her and she dove into the bag, coming back out with a bottle grasped awkwardly in her paws. "He might want this."

Aphrodite nodded her thanks and took it. After a moment of confusion, something seemed to click and the new baby latched on and started drinking the formula.

Jane's trot was a bit fast for the lack of visibility, and definitely too fast for Chance, but Celeste was entirely unfazed, used being flown around on a rowdy skarmory. The trainer, instead, was preoccupied with her Poketech, which she frowned at for a few moments before looking up. "Whoa girl." Jane came to a stop and looked back at her rider, confused. "It looks like I read the map wrong. I don't think this place has a Berry King." Which made a certain amount of sense given that this place was about as outsider-friendly as a scyther nest.

There was one other thing she could think to do here, though, as she looked at the misty buildings and the unoccupied street. There was one thing a little strange about Celeste, and that was the fact that she liked bugs. There was one species she'd had on her 'want' list for a while and, really, with only Sting and Nightshade, she had far too few creepy crawlies. Not to mention, if she played her cards right, it could be very useful for the task ahead.

She nudged Jane's sides. "This way girl." There was a sound of confusion from the glaceon in her lap, and a small glance from the sneasel on Jane's head, as the arcanine was turned toward one of the dark, foggy alleyways. "Keep your eyes peeled for spiders, guys."

Jane whined a little at that. Bugs were icky and crawly and she couldn't breath fire on them like normal arcanine, but she was nothing if not obedient and kept moving where she was directed.

--

So you want a spider, hunh? Well, the universe works in funny ways, especially if it didn't wake up until after 12:30. No more stalking mailboxes after ten for me, no sir.

Anyways.

Your poor, obedient, bug-phobic Arcanine trotted where directed and ended up in a wide alleyway. You could just make out the shapes of two trashcans stacked against one of the sides, their shiny metal surfaces dulled into darkness with the fog. On a good day, Pokemon might frequently raid these for food, but today was apparently not one of those days. Maybe the garbage-men came before you got there.

Excess moisture, courtesy of the fog, had collected into puddles on the concrete; providing yet another pleasant environment to steer your ride into. Even though they were only an inch deep at the maximum, there was no way of knowing where the puddles were because of the foot of fog swirling about Jane's ankles. Honestly, how do people manage to live in this town without being all depressed and emo and committing suicide in the loch every other week? The silence alone (minus the splashing in puddles) was enough to make you crazy.

And then there was a noise. A very faint one, sounding like it came from very high up... and rapidly getting louder.

"MeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEE-!"

SPLAT. The mystery noisemaker collided with Jane's neck fur, right between Chance and Shilo. The impact apparently stunned it, although what it was was subject for debate - it was small, somewhat muddy, and very, very fluffy. Oh wait, that's from the fear. After a moment of processing that it wasn't falling to its death anymore, the creature woozily shook its head and let its ears flop around, trying to raise one paw to smooth rumpled whiskers. It was at this point that two things were realized:

A. A Meowth has just fallen from the sky and landed on your Arcanine.

B. The Meowth realizes oh shit, I landed in the middle of the biggest furryfest ever. PERSON. AAAAAAAAGH.

Squealing like a banshee and all attempts at being presentable pushed aside, the Meowth flailed madly in Jane's neck fur to get back on her paws and scramble the hell off this thing before something else horrible happened to her today. She managed to push off the solid bits of the Arcanine and tumbled down over fluff to go splat again: but in a puddle this time. Sputtering and sneezing, the Meowth stumbled off towards the nearest source of shelter she could detect - the metal trashcans. Some flailing and squishing later, a pair of largely terrified eyes and one incredibly fluffed-out tail were poking out from the haven.

So what to do now, eh?

The silence was maddening, other than the faint splish-splash of Jane's footsteps and her constant high-pitched whimpering. Celeste pulled up the collar of her coat, shivering slightly. Only a bunch of reclusive eccentrics and psychics would make this depressing, mist-laden place their home. She was beginning to think that she'd be better off revising her plans and heading back to the centre.

Then kerplop.

"Spider!"

"Cat!"

"Mmph!" Splash!

Jane backed up, tail tucked, and Chance practically hurled himself at Celeste's face in response to the meowth's screeching. Now blinded, she lost her balance and landed on the wet ground. Shilo, ironically ususally the first to react to any kind of perceived danger, was the only one who didn't have a heart attack.

Celeste slowly reached up and pried the glaceon off her face, only for him to bury himself in her coat instead. Him being an ice type, it was a less-than-pleasant feeling for the trainer. Jane, meanwhile, backed up a little more and lowered her massive head to peer at the terrified and muddy cat. "Wait, that's not a spider."

"No kidding?" was the sarcastic reply as a little blue head poked out of Celeste's coat.

Jane glanced back at him and cocked her head to one side. "Why would you be afraid of a cat?"

"Why would you be afraid of a spider?" Chance shot back.

As this conversation went on, Shilo silently slid from Jane's head to land gracefully on the ground. She ignored the muddy water that splashed up from the puddle, and instead looked at the frightened alley cat. The warrior weasel gave a respectful bow. "Greetings, honourable stranger," she said, voice calm and respectul, "Apologies for any impolite reactions on my companion's part. They were not expecting your entrance. I can assure you, you will not be harmed by us."

As if to illustrate the point, Celeste got up, wobbling a bit. She leaned on Jane's flank, and noticed the cat looking at them for the first time. She rubbed her arms absently, wary; as much as she wanted a meowth, hunting for one had gotten her more than a few scars. The last thing she wanted was a repeat of the Kamikaze Meowth fiasco in Lorenzo.

Nonetheless, her kind nature got the better of her when she remembered how the cat had gotten here, and concern flashed in her eyes. "Hey, there, girl," she said softly, gesturing for her large riding dog to back off further, which she did so gladly. Chance's face vanished into her coat again; no cat claws ripping him up, no thank you. "It's okay. Are you all right? You fell pretty far there."

Huddling behind her can haven in what could be described as sheer, abject terror, the Meowth's ridiculously wide eyes tracked the movements of the human and other Pokemon in the alley. Though much of her wasn't visible aside from that, her tail still stuck out and it was a good indicator of her emotions. The fur was puffed out so much it looked like a huge, fluffy worm that wiggled wildly back and forth at the tip.

It was safe to say this cat was still just tryin' to get her darn brains together before she decided her next logical course of action. Whatever that might have been, nobody knows because Shilo Happened.

Slanted eyes warily looked the weasel over, sizing her up. The Meowth hrrr'd in her throat, the tip of her tail flicking in an sort of decision-making tempo. Despite having one feathery ear and a feathery-looking rump, Shilo didn't seem like a bird. She didn't smell much like one, either. Her scent was cold and deep, like some far off woodland place that was decidedly foreign. All this Meowth had ever known was the damp scent of mist and road tar, so it was probably better to make sure these things were safe.

"You're not a bird, are you?" She hissed warily from behind the can. Her eyes roved around from Shilo to Celeste, taking note that the giant dog had moved further away. This only did a little to reassure the cat, for all she knew the dog was trying to move into a flanking position for some sneak attack. The Meowth liked her dangerous objects to be kept within her line of sight at all times, thank you. Nobody survived long in the fog unless they had eyes in the back of their head.

Or, y'know, a nice pair of trashcans to hide behind. At least she didn't seem like she was a total psychotic. Everybody's allowed to be paranoid of something, right?

Shilo stared.

Chance burst out laughing.

A line of fur along the sneasel's spine bristled, and her tail feathers stood straight out as she glared over her shoulder at the giggling glaceon. He didn't seem to notice the icy glare of doom, too busy cracking up. "No," she told the meowth calmly, never once showing a bit of anger toward the cat, as it wasn't her that was having a laugh at her expense, "I am not."

Jane cocked her head to one side. "What's so funny?"

Chance held up a paw until he could breathe again. "Imagine Shilo jumping out of a tree while flapping her arms." Jane thought about it for a second and let out a snort of laughter that she tried to stifle with a forepaw. Celeste just looked extraordinarily confused.

Ignoring her canine peanut gallery, Shilo elaborated. "I am a weasel. I would be more closely related to yourself than any sort of bird. I can assume there aren't any of my kind in this part of the world?" Then, after a thoughtful pause, she continued speaking. "May I ask what caused you to fall into our midst in the first place, honourable stranger? I am sure if there is someone responsible, my companions could be persuaded to assist you in assuring it does not happen again."

Jane fluffed up a bit in fright. "If it was a spider, count me out. I already broke her fall." She then glanced to one side and added in a mutter, "Don't thank me for that or nuthin."

"How many assholes we got on this ship anyhow?"

With ears flattened against her damp fur, the meowth glared indignantly at the snickering, chortling pair behind the human. Her lips drew back into a grimace. She hissed and hunkered close to the ground. Then, studying the 'weasel' she relinquished an accepting nod.

So you're not a bird. Good. And no, I've never seen anything like you before. She clamped her mouth shut with a snap, and eye balled Celeste closely before deciding whether or not to answer. Well, they were already laughing, but it apparently it was at the weasel thing and not her. Very well. You see that balcony up there? The slightest motion of her head pointed to the adjacent building. Staring up, up, as high as one could see, didn't help in the least. The heavy fog that blanketed the town hid said balcony from sight. There's a human in the apartment up there. They have a bird for a pet. A snotty little pidgy so fat I doubt he could fly. Very delicious looking though. I've been stalking that stupid bird for days and thought I had him cornered with his back turned. Here she stopped and worked up a good growling yowl and sneezed off to the side. The trash can beside her wobbled. He was onto me though. Waited for me to get right up on him and then broadsided me with his wing. We were on the railing you see, and he threw me off balance.

The meowth was blushing, though it was hard to tell beneath her layer of grime. And though she had confided her embarrassing account to Celeste, she made no motion to leave the safety of her garbage can fortress.

Mini-freeform to create my own Valentines Day Luvdisc encounter. Because I can.

Word Count: 737
Summary: Everyone receives just what they want, or need, for Valentines Day. Just don't ask too many questions about how and why.
Reward: One female Meowth

The snickering faded into silence as Chance and Jane stopped to listen. They didn't show any mirth toward the meowth's story; in fact, the two dogs exchanged a look of slight nausea. The idea of the eating other pokemon was not a kind one for the two human-bred canines.

Shilo had not lived wild either, but her reaction was a bit different. She stared up into the fog, unable to see the balcony the honourable stranger spoke of, and her feather-ear gave a faint twitch. "I must say that that is long time to stalk a single meal."

The cat bristled a bit, but seemed to realize that Shilo meant no offense. "Have you tried to hunt here?" Of course they hadn't. They were hand-fed morsels like that fat bird. "It would be worth it." Both the meal and the satisfaction of wiping the smug smile off that bird's beak permanently. He thought he was better than her, the cast off mongrel cat, and she wanted to remind him of his place on the food chain.

Then, something changed. The meowth's fur stood on end as the mist shifted around them, taking on a pinkish hue. She hissed, casting an accusing look at Celeste, who jumped at the sudden hostility and wrapped her arms around herself protectively. Jane whined and flattened her ears, and Chance ducked down into his trainer's jacket again.

Misthenge's fog swirled around the quintet of creatures as shadows began to appear, darting around them. Celeste should have felt hunted, but was strangely calm, at least until a screech came the alleyway and the garbage can fortress came clattering down in a blur of cream fur. A luvdisc, floating in the air, giggled as the alley cat charged into the open, then it raced forward and planted a little kiss on the meowth's forehead. She stumbled once, drunkenly, and collapsed with a thud on the ground.

Shilo, who'd shot straight up the fire escape of the nearby building in reaction to the meowth's screaming, tried to bat away a second heart-shaped flying fish, only to receive a kiss of her own and wobble around until she, too, collapsed. Chance peered out of Celeste's coat warily, only for a fast-as-lightning luvdisc to dart over and kiss him, too. Jane howled and took off at full gallop down the street with a fish in hot pursuit.

Those were some very potent Sweet Kiss attacks. Celeste wasn't afraid, though, even when yet another fish swam over and hovered in front of her face. It was grasping the edge of a heart-shaped box with 'For Celeste' written on it, and floated there expectantly. She took it, carefully, and patted the luvdisc's head gently. "Thank you." The fish beamed, moved over to plant a kiss on her nose, and zigzagged away while squealing in delight.

Celeste carefully opened the box, finding an assortment of chocolates. She recognized a few of them, happily, as her favourites, but it what sat in the centre that caught her attention the most. A minimised pokeball, bright pink with a heart design on the top, was right in the middle of all the tasty treats.

She looked up, and the little messengers were gone as quickly as they'd come. Chance returned to reality first, his head popping up with a blue, and thankfully thornless, rose in his mouth. Jane came trotting back with what looked like a black silk bandanna tied around her neck. Shilo came to with a silver locket in her hands, and she opened it, only to snap it shut again while her eyes squeezed closed against forming tears.

Celeste looked around at her pokemon and closed the heart-shaped box again. "Maybe we should forget the spinarak for now, huh guys?" That candy, and pokeball, needed proper attention back at the Pokemon Centre.

Eventually, the street meowth twitched awake, her double vision slowly solidifying into single again. She shook her head sharply when it did, hardly believing her eyes as she looked at where the human, dogs, and 'weasel' had once been.

Staring her in the face was a steaming hot turkey dinner, along with a sparkling collar with a tag that had 'Mittens' written on it. Next to it all was a sign that read 'Happy Valentines Day.'

...so. You're prolly sick of me grading your stuff by now, haha. I think short and weird is a good way to describe this, but I liked it too! It was cute and funny and just a neat little thing. I can't describe why I liked it, I just did. Maybe I just like it when nice, weird things happen to characters?

And Jane running around howling with a fish chasing her was funny.

Nothing bad stood out. Ho hum.

And it's Valentines day, so love is going to be spread!

...not like that. Geez.

Aphrodite allowed her youngerster to toddle around on the floor as she twirled the blue rose around in her paw. She idly plucked a chocolate from Celeste's box with her other paw and ignored her mock-irritated look she received. Celeste sighed and rolled her eyes, leaning back against the bench; that close encounter with the luvdisc kind had certainly been interesting.

"Is it bad that I want a luvdisc now?" she asked no one in particular. Aphrodite's ear twitched and the lopunny gave her a look, which she ignored. Luvdisc weren't entirely useless, after all. They were pretty fast, and they learned some nice support moves. Maybe in a double-battle scenario with the right defense training?

Celeste just shook her head. She had enough crazy plans without adding to them. Still, no one was going to be surprised if there were sketches of luvdisc in her journal with stats written out in chicken-scratch next to them.

Still, catching another water type would certainly be a good idea, given what she was intending to do next...

That was when Jasmine walked through the door, carrying a small green egg in her vines. She deposited the unborn offspring into her trainer's lip and glowered at her. Celeste very carefully patted the chikorita's head. "I'm sorry for asking you to do that, Jas. I promise I'll let you slap Steely if she mistreats them." She wouldn't have asked in the first place if she was really worried, but the comment seemed to perk the grass type up a little.

"Now, who wants a trip to the docks? I want to see if we can dig up a carvanha before we head back to the Loch."
