Neuron stared apprehensively at the bright red lanyard that the Little Cup officials insisted he wore around his neck. Dangling at the end of it was a rather large card that confirmed his registration and entry into the event, as well as the number "33" in big fat red letters on the back. He was told that it was his contestant number, and would be what he was going to be referred to for the duration of the Little Cup. The ninja refused to wear such a tacky object around his neck. Here he was dressed in ninja garb complete with mask hiding the lower portion of his features and everything, and they wanted to ruin the look by hanging this card around his neck? It simply didn't belong. A little disgruntled, he nodded and grunted something incomprehensible just to get the officials off his back, and then experimentally held the lanyard close to different parts of his body, wondering what would be the best set-up without looking too much of a goofball. After thinking about submitting and hanging it around his neck, and then tying it around his forearms in turn, the shinobi finally settled with knotting it firmly at his utility belt so that the card hung down the left side of his leg from his wasitline. Victorious against the card finally, Neuron looked up. He had been swept along sub-conciously with the multitude of all the other trainers through a dimly-lit tunnel to the stadium. It was huge, probably enough to house all of the battles that were to simultaneously happen. It was the ninja's first time here, as his previous public absence had allowed the fighter and trainer to be absent from both of the Grand Meelees that had occured within the last two years. The ninja finally took some time to survey the crowd he was with. There seemed to be a few faces he could recognize, but they didn't seem to have saw him and all of them was merely a flit of the moment as they passed by. Ever the solitary warrior still himself, he reactively stayed a little astray from the main group, keeping the the sides and to himself. As usual, he was rather disgusted at how many of them had their Pokemon teams out and was conversing rather casually with them. With the Little Cup including only non-evolved Pokemon, it was understandable that some trainers had to forego their usual Pokemon and work with others that they were not used to. However, it was a sign of weakness and giveaway to the enemy to know your party before the fight even started. His own three-men ninja cell was assembled rather hastily. His main team of companions were not the strongest around anymore, but they could hold their own in a fight and was considered too experienced to be able to enter this event. The ninja settled for a few of the warriors that had accompanied the first leg of his journey back in the Legacy region when he had set out from Hikari with revenge in his heart seven years ago. First to make the make-shift team was one of his first catches as a trainer: Archangel the feisty and energetic Taillow. The second was Neuron's starter back in his police days, and a remnant that he had kept to remind him of his previous role in society: Guide the solemn and naive Chinchou. The last was a proud warrior that he had received in a trade and had relied on briefly in his travels Xun the reserved and arrogant Treecko. The human trainer was rather fond and satisfied with this team. Though none of them were warriors of the dark and the shadows, their speed would fit his ninja skills well, ironically unlike that of the ninja shelled siblings that he had with him usually. The crowd's cheering and applause was one thunderous din to Neuron's ears, as he heard his number called over the loudspeaker. Slowly sifting through the trainers, the ninja marvelled at how one could not get lost amongst the many battlefields situated in the single stadium. He surveyed his opponent scutinously as he took his place at one end of the field. The corner of his mouth jerked up in a gratifying smirk. This was exciting. It was time to make the name "Neuron Long" known in the world once more. |

(0.3 . Enjoy your cookie cutter mod to get you started.)The noise as you stepped out was deafening - the prospect of meeting their favourite pro trainers had drawn thousands of people to the stadium. Once you had taken your position at one end of the field, the announcer's voice boomed over the loudspeakers. "Ladies and Gentlemen! Next up to challenge the pros is a newcomer to the competitive battling scene. Hailing from Little Hillmoss Town, give it up for Neuron Long!" The crowd let out an encouraging cheer, and applauded. "And introducing his first opponent. Winner of the recent Felcrest Endurance Cup, all the way from Escennia, let's hear it for Ollie Green!" Across from you stood a tall, slender blonde man in his mid-twenties, who waved to the crowd when they erupted into wild cheers. As per Little Cup rules, Ollie was tasked to release his pokémon first, so he duly obliged. He nodded respectfully towards you, then called out his pokémon. "Myst! Glider! Let's go!" Flicking two pokéballs into the arena, they both burst, revealing a Gastly and a Surskit. They took up position on their half of the arena, and prepared themselves for battle. The referee situated at the side of the field relayed instructions as to how the battle should progress next. "The challenger may now choose his two pokémon for this round, and may also call out the first commands."

0.2 ![]() Team Neuron snorted derisively as the referee finished his quick commentary at the start of his match. Call out the first commands? he thought to himself with a slight smile. They were underestimating him a little too much. A truly strong Pokemon would be able to fare well in battle on its own and make advantageous split second judgements in a fight. To call out commands was belittling to his Pokemon team, as well as giving away his strategy to the opponent. He would only provide the necessary advice if they were backed up into a tight corner or if there was some ingenious plans he wanted to carry out. The reserved ninja took a prolonged moment to survey his opponent as he took his place across from him and eagerly sent out his first Pokemon, drawing the time out second by second as things got a little awkward while he merely stood there. Scrutinizing the blonde boy in his twenties with his silver eyes, Neuron purposely tried to bore holes into his enemy with his gaze. He realized that his enemy was barely any older than himself. Before the battle would start, the ninja would already be employing his scare tactics. When he felt he couldn't possibly drag it out any longer, he simply muttered a quick, "Felcrest Endurance Cup, huh?" and flicked out his own Pokeballs. The shinobi had already picked out his two fighters for this particular round. He had not missed out on what Pokemon was sent out as he watched Ollie Green, and Neuron had been mentally and carefully making his choice. Each of his fighters seem to have an edge against the surskit, but the gastly would prove to be troublesome as it was faster than both Guide and Xun, and had the ability to put each of his Pokemon to sleep. He would have to strike fast, and when he can, before that happens. From the ensuing explosion of light that followed, a taillow soared upwards and began climbing the air currents inside the stadium already. As it spun energetically upwards, its eye stayed on his enemies, with the full intent to win this one. His companion in turn was a little out of place, lacking a body of water to be floating in. It wasn't any more of a disadvantage than the surskit, as they both belong to the marine world. A little more shy than his partner this round, the chinchou was nevertheless eagerly wanting to win this one. Neuron uttered but a single phrase, "Get the gastly first, boys." Archangel and Guide instantly reacted. Battle #1

(0.3 )"And Neuron opens with a Taillow and a Chinchou!" The announcer boomed. "Two pokémon of complementary types - let's see how they fare against Ollie's team." For his part, Ollie didn't appear to be too concerned. Of course his Gastly was going to be targetted first, it appeared to be the bigger threat. Concentrating on one pokémon was a sound tactic, but the problem was that it left the other pokémon free to do whatever it liked without the danger of retaliation. Even if that pokémon happened to be a Surskit. Ollie's orders were as vague and nonrevealing as yours. "The Taillow." Cue an explosion of action. Archangel raised his wings to launch a column of air at Myst, only for the Gastly to perform a pre-emptive strike. The Sucker Punch wasn't actually a punch, seeing as Gastly tended not to have hands, but the full-body charge still left its mark on the bird. The Air Slash still connected, and the shock of it forced Myst to sit out the rest of the opening exchanges. A bit of good fortune on your part. While Guide was busy burying the temporarily inactive ghost under all manner of statuses, Glider was taking full advantage of being ignored as well. Lining up the Taillow in his sights, the Surskit launched first a stream of concussive bubbles that brought Archangel to the brink, then a surprisingly speedy tackle to finish off the bird. That left the situation as follows: Guide was at full health, but had to face two pokémon on his own. At least one of those pokémon was heavily impaired. ~~~~~

0.3 ![]() Team Unfazed by the strategy or style of his opponent's actions, Neuron watched with unmoving eyes as the gastly and surskit made quick work of Archangel in the opening round. He did feel a pang of guilt somewhere in his heart, but his steeled resolution did not allow the ninja to show it. Though he wasn't surprised by it, that first exchange had at least confirmed the calibre of his opponent. He was facing professionals after all, and this Felcrest Endurance Cup certainly knew what he was doing. Merely in the first round, Ollie had chose to target the taillow alone because it was easier to knock out by his two Pokemon, and had quickly done so to cut down the number of attacks Neuron's team can send their way. The shinobi's lips jerked up into a gleeful smile, though still hidden away from Ollie by his choice of ninja attire. The excitement of it all was returning back to him, and Neuron could feel the andrenaline rushing through his body. It was hard to keep his body from leaping into the fray as well and joining in the battle, as he was accustomed to sometimes when fighting with other shinobis. He masked his fidgeting in a flurry of movement that flicked his cloak out behind him and returning the fallen taillow to its rightful Pokeball. Guide, on the other hand, showed obvious signs of discomfort. It was firstly discomfort that he was out of his element of a body of water, and then discomfort again that his companion and teammate had rather fallen so quickly. The prospect of having to take on two enemies at once with a chance to win was dreadfully dautning for the meeker Pokemon, even if one of his enemies was rather impaired at this point. Archangel was not only somebody the chinchou wanted to rely on in terms of evening the teams, but his gutsy attitude was also what led the chinchou into battle at times. But it was no use crying over spilt milk and Guide knew it was time to turn the tables and go on the counter-attack instead. Both human trainer and chinchou now knew they had to rely on luck little bit. They had successfully managed to inflict both confusion and paralysis onto the enemy's gastly, which should provide for some painstaking difficulties for the ghost to throw any sort of attacks, but if luck would have it that he could overcome it, then Neuron knew they were going to be in a bit of trouble. Guide, though, didn't need any guidance from the Neuron. He shifted his attention over to Glider the surskit, and charged up the second element of voltage from inside his body. He would let the sparks fly, and if he was so fortunate as to have taken out the surskit in a single blow, he would in turn go for the gastly. Battle #1

"How many assholes we got on this ship anyhow?"
|
.3 "Long is one pokemon down but not out of the fight yet! Green's gastly seems to be shambling aimlessly about the field. Confusion and paralysis could likely be the key to help even the odds." No sooner had he spoken than his words rung true. No matter how much Ollie coaxed his pokemon into fighting her condition, the ghost simply could not gain enough control to prevent injuring herself in her mad scrambling. This left Guide free to launch a single minded assault upon the bug. They were equally matched in speed, but not equally matched in strength. Glider had but one hope of victory, and that meant a little self sacrifice to buy Myst some time. The bug zipped across the field, a touch faster than the other and they collided midway. The quick attack taking a small bit of strength from the fish before the insect fell. Myst was sill struggling, if she didn't master herself quickly, the battle would end in the next few seconds. The announcer was gushing over the combatants, adding to the tense atmosphere...The ghost struck! Guide was thrown back a step, and flailing a bit, regained his balance and shot forward a volt of energy that plowed into the ghost. And that was all she wrote. "That's it! We have a winner! Congratulations to the ninja Neuron Long! May the challenger please leave the field for a short break before the next battle!" The crowd was roaring and out of their seats, that was by far the most exciting exchange they had seen thus far. Ollie Green shook his head with a smile and withdrew his pokemon. "Good battle, friend. Until next time." And he left the field. 3.0 ![]() |

0.3 ![]() Team Neuron breathed out a fleeting sigh of relief as Guide fell both his opponents in one fell swoop. The ninja thanked his lucky stars that Guide taking his time to inflict all the different status conditions upon the Gastly rather than attacking in the first exchange had paid off, and was able to overturn the table and win the match for him. Archangel's sacrafice was not in vain, and Neuron could at the very least now walk away from this Little Cup with one win underneath his belt. He made a mental note, however, to be a little bit more careful in the future. His opponent was no pushover, and his tactic was something the shinobi had to consider. For a brief moment, Neuron wondered if the match would turn out to be his win had his Pokemon pin-pointed one enemy and focused on felling it first as well. Perhaps it was a safer bet, and less risky strategy to take, but he wasn't about to complain about the outcome. Giving Ollie Green a curt nod in response to the friendly statement, he retreated from the platform as instructed by an announcer. It was an exciting exchange, and Neuron could use some down town. His taillow needed to be looked at, too. It was the perfect opportunity to gather in his thoughts, mull over what he have learned, and come back a better competitor shortly for his next match. A short break was definitely in order. ***** Neuron's short break didn't last all that long. Sooner than he had anticipated, the shinobi found himself standing at the center of a thousand's attention. His head was held high, now sweating slightly under the stadium lights as he waited for the next professional that he would be challenging. He scanned the audience quickly, wondering what was so exhilariating about merely watching a Pokemon battle and not participating in it. The ninja was ready. He knew he had Lady Luck on his side for a little bit, but her love was not known to stay for long periods of time. He would have to rely on his own power, and his own wits to survive the next round and emerge the victor of at least two battles in the Little Cup. That meant Neuron had to stay on his feet, and make a even sounder decisions than the last round. Steeling his resolution, he stared across the stage and awaited his next opponent. |

0.3 ![]() "Ladies and Gentlemen. Taking the stage for his second match of the Little Cup is Neuron Long!" The crowd roared, remembering the first match and eager to see another. It seemed the ninja had earned some fans from the crowd, if the screaming was any indication. "Ollie Green's Gastly and Surskit team weren't enought to take him down. Now Ollie's greatest rival takes her turn at bat." The cheering from the crowd seemed to double before a name was even called. "Their meetings are frequent, their clashes legendary, and the winner is never certain. From Brighopolis, the woman who took second in the Felcrest Endurance Cup, please welcome Penelope Scarlet!" The young lady strolled into her place, looking like she just stepped off of a beach. Tanned with blonde hair had had to be bleached, she had to be cold in her tank-top and shorts, but merely tilted down her sunglasses upon reaching the trainer's box, momentarily ignoring her shrieking fans to regard Neuron with a calm, studying look. She may have looked like a ditz, but that look told him everything he needed to know; she was much more intelligent that she appeared, and she intended to fight like the Pro she was. Then she was all smiles, and waved to her fans with a broad grin, blowing kisses to a few of them. Winking at Neuron as if the show of seriousness had never happened, she giggled and plucked two pokeballs from her belt. "You beat Ollie, huh? Well, I won't be so easy!" She tossed the two capsules onto the field, and they opened to reveal a Wailmer and Cubone. "Current, Dune, get ready!" The whale bounced up and down on the arena floor, grinning eagerly. The skull-wearing lizard next to him swung her bone around, hissing like a gas leak. They waited not-quite-so-patiently for their opponents and the first commands.

0.3 ![]() Team Neuron observed his next opponent, a girl this time. He was actually remotely intrigued at what the announcer had to say about her, as he took in her place across the stage from him with an air of flamboyant playfulness. Neuron found himself more attracted to her figure than anything else, and the corner of his lips involuntarily jerked up into a slight smile. Good thing he was wearing a ninja mask still. "Second in the Felcrest Endurance Cup, huh?" the ninja spoke to himself, not unlike in the first round. The young lady across from him tilted her sunglasses down, breaking her pace to give him a much more serious look. He accepted the challege with a steady gaze from his silver eyes. The shinobi's mind was racing already. He had not forgotten the mistake that he had made in the first round against Ollie that had nearly costed him the match. The ninja understood his Pokemon and had a good strategic mind going for him, but was still rather careless at times. He vowed to think things through a little more clearly this time, and intend to keep that promise to himself. But he couldn't help but hope somewhere deep inside that Ollie had a deserving win at the Felcrest Endurance Cup. That would mean that Ollie's rival, the young girl across from him with beach-day clothing Penelope Scarlet, across from Neuron right now would be an easier fight. Her Pokemon were sent out as soon as the announcer began the match, and Neuron forcefully pushed his thoughts aside. An easy opponent or not, Neuron still had to fight smartly to emerge victorious. He would see in due time whether Penelope Scarlet was up on par with Ollie Green or not soon enough. Eying the hefty behemoth that was the wailmer, Neuron quickly decided that it would be a monster to take down. His strategy will need to focus on the other Pokemon first... but how? Neuron's brows furrowed, realizing that the wailmer's partner was a cubone. He took his time moving his hand to his belt, mind racing at a hundred kilometers per hour to have his plan in place before he sent out his companions. His team of choice was set. Neuron was one to give second chances, but it was also truth that Archangel would not fare as well against these opponents as his partners. Despite all odds, Xun would be perfect for this round, with Guide backing him up. The Cubone would prove to be a little bit problematic for the chinchou, however, and a two pronged attack might actually be needed. Snapping out of his thoughts, Neuron realized his opponent was waiting, rather impatient. He let the Pokeballs in his hands fly. The shinobi was certain of one thing. Speed would be on his side. For one of the rarest times in his fighting moments, Neuron hazarded giving away his plans and called out instruction to his Pokemon - namely the chinchou. "Guide, confuse that big oaf of a wailer!" he shouted, if a little desperate in his voice. "Then focus all your attacks on the cubone first!"

0.3 ![]() "And Treecko starts the battle off with ABSORB! It's super-effective!" "- but even so, it's not a very powerful attack, Martha," the male announcer interjected. "The Cubone seems hardly bothered!" The crowd roared as the Cubone took the abuse, brandishing his club like an extra muscle. Penelope Scarlet smiled broadly at her crowd and waved them on. "Come on, Dune, Current! You can do it!" She offered no hint of her plan but instead waved at her pokémon like another adoring fan, cheering for them rather than coaching them. The whale was many times her size but it grinned stupidly when it heard her voice. The Chinchou rushed forward to try and confuse it but the giant sea mammal didn't even take notice; it started to roll over, like a giant boulder aimed at flattening Guide. "Look at that!" cried Martha the announcer. "Scarlet's Wailmer is using ROLLOUT on the Chinchou! He's still rolling - all the pokémon on the field are running out of the way!" The fighters all struggled to leap and dash out of the massive Wailmer's path. Even Dune, the whale's teammate, had to be wary. When the whale had rolled far enough in the wrong direction for the battle to continue, Chinchou dashed forward and struck the enemy Cubone. "And he's using... BUBBLE." The announcers were unimpressed. The jumbotron projected Guide's bubbles as they popped in the Cubone's face. "It's super effective?" encouraged Martha. The male announcer scoffed. Meanwhile the Wailmer had returned on course and rolled with increasing speed towards the other pokémon; just as Treecko used Absorb for a second time, he was crushed from behind by the one-ton beast. "Yeowch!" the announcers boomed. The crowd was cheering a standing ovation. Still the Wailmer rolled on at faster and more dangerous speeds. "Dune! It's you!" called Penelope. Finally the Cubone took his turn to strike. He smacked his club against his open fist a few times, staring menacingly at the little Chinchou. Then suddenly he charged forward, faster than expected, his club in the air and ready to lay the smack down. "Cubone used BONE CLUB!" The angler pokémon was thrown back by the force of it. The Cubone rushed forward and struck again. "Twice! Now that's super-effective! Chinchou has been knocked out!" The lights flashed red and the crowd let out gasps and cheers that echoed across the stadium. "We've got an exciting match here so far, folks! At the end of round one, it's anyone's guess who'll take it. Trainer Neuron has the obvious type advantage but he'll need to boost his attack if he expects to knock out that Wailmer. Let's see what happens next --" And the scores were projected on the jumbotron, but if Neuron paused to study them, his Treecko would be crushed by a rampaging whale.
