TEAM Ben fingered the lanyard given him. He still really didn't know what it said, not having found anyone willing to take a moment to read it off to him that he trusted not to laugh at him. Despite the fact that he was sure it was a pretty well-known fact that he was blind by this point, he hated bringing attention to it. Everyone was hurrying off to their respective battles. "Don't look at me, it's all moonrunes." Ben sighed as the lucario still beside him piped up. "Anubis, you get into the stands if you're going to stay already. This is for young pokemon." Which was the entire reason he was here, to test the mettle of some of his younger pokemon, the twins in particular. The two hamsters pranced around, playing a game of tag around his ankles excitedly, while the young ralts perched uncomfortably nearby. Galahad lacked a certain confidence in his own ability, and hopefully bringing him here would help him get a feel for his own power. Time would tell, really. Ben pulled the black stole from off his shoulders, much to the 'stole's' disgruntlement, passing her over to Anubis. "Anyhow, I need you to keep an eye on Mystique. Get into the stands, all right?" "Fine, but you're gonna have to ask SOMEONE about that..." the lucario poked the laniard and tag before whisking out of sight with the young fox pokemon. Ben sighed, fiddling with the cord a moment more, before sighing and heading over to the person that had handed it to him earlier, picking Galahad up, gently. Once he'd gotten the directions, he headed out into the proper arena with a sigh. People never seemed to get the idea of what being blind meant, and he hated having to explain. Being able to use Aura to a limited extent and find living things easily never helped... Selene and Pheobus squeaked in surprise at the roar, pressing against his legs and staring at everything. Galahad slid down to stand beside him, as they waited. This would be interesting, he supposed, at least... |

(0.3 . Enjoy your cookie cutter mod to get you started.)The noise as you stepped out was deafening - the prospect of meeting their favourite pro trainers had drawn thousands of people to the stadium. Once you had taken your position at one end of the field, the announcer's voice boomed over the loudspeakers. "Ladies and Gentlemen! Next up to challenge the pros is a trainer you may recognise. He won the second Grand Melée, and was a finalist in the amateur Escennia tournament. Hailing from Little Hillmoss Town, give it up for Benjamin Summers!" The crowd let out an encouraging cheer, and applauded. "And introducing his first opponent. One half of a very talented double-battle brother and sister team. All the way from Misthenge, let's hear it for Stacey Tenorman!" Across from you stood a quietly confident redheaded girl in her late teens, who waved to the crowd when they erupted into wild cheers. As per Little Cup rules, Stacey was tasked to release her pokémon first, so she duly obliged. She nodded respectfully towards you, then called out her pokémon. "Spring! Summer! Let's go!" Flicking two pokéballs into the arena, they both burst, revealing an Azurill and a Sunkern. They took up position on their half of the arena, and prepared themselves for battle. The referee situated at the side of the field relayed instructions as to how the battle should progress next. "The challenger may now choose his two pokémon for this round, and may also call out the first commands."

.3 (Yay cookie cutter mods!) "Amateur tournament?" Ben mumbled the comment under his breath, thinking back on the Battle Tower tourney. That was an amateur tournament? Oh well, whatever. It seemed that he was due to face some seasonal pokemon, as it were. He nodded respectfully to the lady who had come out to face him, as he checked to see what they were with his dex, not recognizing the auras offhand in any fashion. "..." He rocked back slightly as he listened to the information provided by the dex about the two pokemon sent out to fight him. Seriously? And this was a pro? Well, to win with such underdogs, they'd have to be, he figured. So, he'd take them very seriously, no matter how ridiculous the matchup seemed. "I hope you don't mind sitting this one out, Galahad," he said as he gently nudged the two fuzzballs at his feet. "I think the twins are most suitable here." And besides, who better to battle the seasons than the sun and moon, right? The irony was irresistible. He tried to ignore the inevitable squeals from many of the girls in the stand, awwing over his little hamsters. 'I don't mind, no...' Ben patted the ralts gently as the psychic pressed close to him. "Good. Tag team, you two. Phoebus, weaken the sunkern and help your sister out. Selene, use your charm on the azurill, take it out fast. Be careful you two..." He considered the little water creature potentially the most dangerous of the two, at least in direct offense. The eevees yipped in unison, skittering out across the field, weaving across each others path excitedly, trying to sow a certain amount of confusion, get the other to lose track of who was who. "This is gonna be..." Selene began with a giggle. "...so much fun, yes," her brother finished, darting under her as she leapt high into the air, hocking up a glob of toxic goo at the Sunkern, before spinning to bark encouragement at his sister. She crouched low, waggling her tail tauntingly at Spring before vanishing in a blur of speed straight for the baby water mouse.

0.3 ![]() The two Eevee took the field, to the cooing of the audience. Stacy smiled and gave her orders calmly. "Divide and conquer, guys. Drop the female and smack the male around." The twins were faster than their opponents, and wasted no time launching their attacks. Summer squeaked in distress as she was soaked in Phoebus' toxic vomit, and glared daggers at the pair. Spring hopped a bit away from the fuming plant, only to be thoroughly distracted by Selene's swishing tail. Back and forth, back and forth...downright hypnotizing. Summer was not about to take all this lying down, and she moved one of her leaves toward her mouth and curled it. She blew through the leaf, sending a little flute-like tune across the battlefield. Phoebus shook away the drowsiness the little song produced, but Selene rocked in place once before dropping to the ground in a heap. Phoebus darted over to her and tried to rouse her to no success; he was at a loss for what to do, and looked over at the other pokemon on the field, only to be taken aback by the sweet expression on Spring's face, seeming to be begging for his forgiveness for this entire mess. Summer, having no desire to do any smacking around with the poison running through her body, settled down and set down roots that dug into the arena floor and seemed to find something that could norish the little seed pokemon. Spring then took off across the field and rammed into Phoebus, knocking the Eevee over on his backside with a yelp. She bounced back to her partner, grinning like a fool.

.3 (Ohblargh. Nooooo inspiration at all...I know what I want to do, but I can't seem to find the energy to post or something. So...this will probably suck. *kicks it into existence*) Grasswhistle. Lovely. Not much less than he'd expected, and also like he'd expected, that little ball of water fluff packed a surprising amount of punch. Still, he kept his head lowered as he stood quietly on his side of the field, not looking ruffled by this. If he lost, he lost. He wasn't here to win, just to see what his pokemon were capable of. Phoebus skidded to a halt, glancing over his shoulder at his silent sister as she snored away, at a bit of a loss. "Sis?" he asked after a moment, ears perking up as she didn't wake. Ben shifted slightly. It really was a shame they hadn't learned any of their mother's tricks, though. Wish or Heal Bell would have worked wonders here. "Phoebus, stall." Ben didn't elaborate, but he didn't need to. The little hamster shot into motion, darting around the field, zigging and zagging wildly as he shimmered and replicated himself across the field, further confusing the issue. As the male fuzzball sowed the confusion, the blind trainer raised his fingers and let out a shrill, loud whistle. "Selene! You can do this, moon lady! Go for it!" he shouted, infusing his voice with all the confidence and encouragment he could muster. There was no proof that one could wake a pokemon with their voice, but it couldn't hurt to try, and he had nothing better to do. "See if you can't follow your brother's lead!"

Blinded by the magic.

0.3 ![]() It was one thing to set up the stage for your opponent's defeat, and another to defend against the opponent's onslaught until tables turn in your favor. The unspoken death clock affixed on Summer would have pressed the panic button on any opponent, but Stacy took it in her stride that unless she could outheal Toxic's multiplying poison, Summer was going to fall soon enough. This pressed upon her the necessity to end the battle fast before Toxic corroded her team. And that would translate perfectly into her divide and conquer strategy, at least until Selene woke up. 'Take it slow, but press your advantage!' It might have been a blessing for Selene to be asleep, for her still and unmoving body did not draw any fire from the now pro-active duo. This was no novel strategy to take down the enemy before the reinforcements came, or in this case, woke up, but it was definitely a nifty, tried-and-tested trick in her book. Stacey's Pokemon took the command literally - too literally, in fact, that the Sunkern which was running out of time simply refrained from another attack this turn, except to stretch out in the sun and grow a little bit larger. Spring fired a gentle stream of Bubble, if only to perform some resemblance of an attack against Phoebus. The Eevee, as expected, Detected the attack easily and simply dodged the soft bubbles that would otherwise cause minimal damage to the Pokemon. Stacey, however, nodded her satisfaction at Phoebus' reaction, and it was then that you realized what she had planned. The attack was only meant to test your plan, and you had blown your cover by using Detect against an inconsequential move. And as with every battle, the real guns would always appear later. 'Turn on the heat.' The moment Stacey's Pokemon had realized that there was no visible method in which she could pierce Phoebus' almost godlike detection and evasion, the guns were turned onto a helpless, sleeping lady who hadn't warranted the wrath of any of the two Pokemon, unless you discounted the Toxic. There was, of course, no malice ever intended in the Little Cup since it was friendly sparring between trainers anyway, but Stacey pretty much wanted to win this as much as you did, and there were pulling no stops on their attack. Azurill had a decent aim this round, though slamming into an unmoving creature was by no means the hardest thing to do. Sunkern didn't like the Toxic surging through her either, so she made it priority to recover her sapped health. The Mega Drain was carried out silently, though the dent made on Selene would surface once she awoke to soreness and sapped energy. Phoebus could only gaze apologetically and helplessly at his partner: the female Eevee was drawing fire because he had placed invulnerability on himself. If he were dealing with other, less illustrious Pokemon he could afford a shameless hoodwink. But to trick an experienced trainer like Stacey? The least he could do was to employ Double Team, and to keep himself alive for the next bout. It was then you realized the impressiveness of not giving direct commands. Stacey let her Pokemon have open options, options that change with surrounding circumstances. Perhaps if you engaged in such training, you could have versatility in battling... Stacey's Pokemon have four moves though. Yours have around 10. Maybe it's not such an easy tactic to employ. But you gotta admit, this lady is no pushover.

.3 Ben cocked his head slightly as he listened and paid attention as carefully as he could, wincing slightly as Selene got hit a few different ways. He wasn't surprised by that, however, considering Phoebus had made himself an impossible target. It's what he'd have done. Still, there was the toxin for the one to deal with, and the other... "Atta girl..." Ben nodded slightly as Selene staggered upright, looking bemused, wincing at the damage done to her body while she'd been out of it. "You can do this!" He didn't elaborate, curious to see what the two would do. Phoebus barked counterpoint to his statement, relieved that his sister was on her feet again, looking guilty that he had not been able to do more to help her. Selene lowered her head to charge at the blue ball, infuriated beyond measure by her embarrassing nap, and recalling that this thing had been her target in the first place, before she'd gotten all muddled. She'd show the thing not to underestimate her... "Leave her to handle it, Phoebus, on the Sunkern!" Ben shifted his stance slightly, listening carefully. The sandy-furred eevee barked again, before sending sand and grit flying from every direction to pelt the grassy creature, before spinning back around and pouncing, teeth flashing white in the arena.

The Eevee duo snapped into action. They were faster than their opponents by about two-to-one and didn't let their enemies forget it. In unison the brother and sister prepared their attacks: Selene rushed towards her enemy for a skull-shattering Take Down while Phoebus sent a burst of sand flying into his enemy's eyes. Shuddering only slightly from recoil, Selene picked herself up again and charged at the baby Azurill. The polka dot pokémon wasn't expecting the quick attack and fell back with a squeak. The large blue orb of her tail pressed against the earth to balance her. Stacey Tenorman clenched her jaw. Her eyes were flashing wildly at the little Eevee pair - it was clear she wanted them gone. Selena, the weaker of the two, was Stacey's immediate target. "Spring, Summer, now! Full offensive on the female!" The jumbotron projected what happened next. The Azurill used her tail to spring herself forward, once, twice, then three times until she was practically soaring in the air. She slammed down with impressive speed and collided with Selene's skull. Like a boxing glove the Azurill's tail struck its opponent. The baby pokémon bounced back, clearing the way for Sunkern to finish off Selene. "Stacey's Sunkern is using GIGA DRAIN!" the announcer boomed. And so it was: the seed pokémon was glowing a violent shade of orange and it was releasing tendrils that wrapped around Selene's body. The evolution pokémon tried to shrug them off but the stinging was unbearable. The roots struck Selene's body and sapped her strength... slowly, but surely, one of the two Eevees fell heavily to the ground. "And we have our first knock out, folks!" shouted the man into his microphone. "Stacy Tenorman's Sunkern just fainted one of Ben Summers' Eevees! But look at this - the second Eevee is taking his sister's revenge! Eevee used BITE on Sunkern!" Whatever energy Summer had stolen from his prey he presently lost twofold. Phoebus' bite was vicious and he wasn't letting go. The glow around Summer's hard body faded and finally Phoebus spat the seed to the ground - to which it responded by growing, larger than before, in a freakish show of nature at work. Stacy was shouting inaudible commands to her pokémon. Azurill, for her own part, hopped innocently between Phoebus and the Sunkern. Azurill chirped and giggled and blew kisses and rolled over - she actually got so close to Phoebus as if to hug him before bouncing off in random directions. She was so adorable and so tiny that again Phoebus was caught off guard. He barked timidly back to his trainer, unsure of what to do next. Poison was coursing through the seed pokémon. Rather than abating the toxic only seemed to be getting worse; unless the Sunkern received immediate attention it was sure to pass out from the strain. Her pain was visible as she shuddered involuntarily. "Sunkern's poison appears to be getting worse!" the announcer explained. The poison may have been enough to turn the odds back in Ben's favor. He'd have to act now, and decisively, if he wanted to stay for round two. Stacy Tenorman was already instructing her pokémon how to finish off Phoebus...

.3 Ben considered the results of that exchange, looking thoughtful as he cocked his head to his pokedex, listening to the information it relayed. Phoebus backed away warily from the two, gaze darting back and forth between the two pokemon now advancing towards him and his copies. He bristled slightly, then vanished abruptly in a flash of red, while a twin beam collected his fallen sister. "Well. I must compliment you on your Azurill and your compensating for her usually low defensive capabilities. With the power of Take Down, and Selene's own Adaptability, I would have figured that should have done twice the damage it did." At least. But he wasn't going to say that out loud. He bowed deeply to the figure across the way, smiling quietly. He wasn't upset by the loss; to be frank, he hadn't come here to win or lose, but to see how his young companions would fare. "Considering how well your Spring weathered the blows, there is no way that Phoebus can win this match, even if you hadn't taken down his sister this round. I see now that it was a mistake for me to bring two babies into a professional tournament, and I apologize if I disappointed you, ma'am, with my performance," he continued simply, and gave her a deep, respectful bow. "I wish you luck in your future matches." With that, he turned to the stands, searching for a familiar aura in the sea of them, kneeling beside the Ralts that had been watching from beside him the entire time. With a soft huff of displaced air, the pair disappeared from the arena grounds and reappeared beside the lucario at the rails, barking insults at Stacey. He shut up abruptly as Ben caught his shoulder. "All I'm sorry about is that you didn't get a chance to try you own luck, Galahad. But there will be other opportunities for that." "I don't know..." Ben chuckled at the young pokemon's uncertainty, and picked up the young psychic as Anubis harrumphed. "You'd have done fine. Let's go get Selene and Phoebus patched up and see if the concessions are open. We can get some popcorn or nachos or something and watch the other matches. Steely and Floyd are around somewhere if I remember the roster and there's no reason we can't go cheer them on." He headed out, still amused, leaving Anubis by the railing for a moment more. "I still say she was cheating..." he muttered, then followed after his trainer sulkily. Yeah. Withdrawing. This hasn't been fun for me like I hoped it would be since I keep feeling like I'm arguing over everything and I really don't want to complain about ANYTHING, and really, I've been overly stressed out anyhow, so I'm calling it game, set and match at this point. Edit: Put another way, I keep feeling like a whiny spoilsport who thinks that anything that doesn't go her way is wrong, and I hate feeling that way, and don't want to inflict that on other people, so I'm gonna back out of this before I end up irritating other people with that and feeling like I'm being mean or something and all that.
