Team So here Stan was, making his competitive debut a little earlier than anticipated. He'd entered the Little Cup on a whim, really. A tournament catered specifically to trainers and pokémon that were around his own level, with the opportunity to battle against some of the region's top professional trainers. Sounded perfect. When he looked further ino the nature of the contest, it appeared to be an environment where tricky, intricate tactics were cast aside in favour of aggression and raw power. This, too, was perfect. Stan's entire team was hand-picked with those objectives in mind. Reaper in particular was so powerful that the Scyther was actually banned outright from this contest for being 'too good'. Must've meant that he was doing something right. But it didn't matter too much, as his other pokémon were all very well suited to the Little Cup environment. Stan's team picked itself, pretty much. He only had four eligible pokémon, and there was no way that he was leaving out Max or Grim, not with their respective abilities. Crash won out over Tank purely as a result of increased synergy with the other two. The Munchlax was still a little too green to fight just yet. When his number was eventually called, the big man rose to his feet and cracked his knuckles, grinning in anticipation. He turned his head to see the Machop on his shoulder going through a last-minute warmup, and nodded. "Ready, buddy?" Max let out a confident, "Chop!" "Okay. Let's do this." Then he stepped out into the packed arena. Edited by Frac, Nov 18 2010, 07:53 AM.

0.3 ![]() The stadium was often overwhelming the first time someone was in it. Bright lights, the roar of the crowd, and the booming voice of the announcer threatened to crush the weaker trainers. Stan was made of some strong stuff, though. Surely, he and his pokemon could handle it. "Ladies and Gentlemen! Allow me to introduce a newcomer to competitive battling! Stan Knife, hailing from Kevin Baconville, is our next challenger for the Pro trainers!" The crowd erupted in applause, but it was clearly of the type meant to be polite to a competitor. The real cheering, punctuated with enthusiastic screams, came with the next announcement. "And here is Stan's opponent. Let's give a warm welcome to Dusk Anthony, finalist in last year's Slumber Double Rumble!" Dusk had a distinctly 'goth' look, turned up to rather silly level, pale skin combined with jet black hair and similarly-coloured wardrobe. Chains attached to her denim pants jingled as she made her way forward, but draped over her shoulders was a dark cloak that she grabbed in her hand and used to sheild herself, vampire-style, as the stadium light shone on her. The crowd ate it up, cheering louder, and she dropped her arm to give a bow, laughing. She fixed her gaze on Stan and her ruby lips curled into a smirk. "A double battle specialist, few can forget the match that came right down to the wire in the Double Rumble, where her Steelix, Adam, spent much of the match taking on two pokemon at once. She's in her element here; our challenger will have to be at his best." Dusk tossed her cloak backward with one hand, plucking two pokeballs and tossing them into the arena with the other. Two pokemon, one a large-nosed, solid rock type and the other a two-headed bird who darted eagerly around their half of the battlefield. "Sword, Sheild," she said in a calm, slightly-tired voice, "It's your turn." The Nosepass rotated on the spot to stoicly face Stan, and the Doduo's two heads twittered excitedly as she hopped from foot to foot, unable to contain herself. Dusk just regarded her opponent in a heavy-lidded, cat-like fashion, lipstick-heavy lips never leaving that smirk. ---

(0.3 )Stan felt surprisingly comfortable in the middle of the stadium. He was no stranger to being the focus of attention, and it made a refreshing change to be the target of polite respect for once, and not fear. He could very easily get used to this sort of attention. His attention turned to his opponent, hopefully his first of three. Dusk Anthony, eh? Stan had heard of the name - the girl was good. And she had that whole goth chick look going for her, which was certainly not unwelcome. Very easy on the eyes, too. Max lightly tapped the side of Stan's head, knocking him back into battle mode. Anyway. He looked at the two pokémon that Dusk sent out, and quickly set about the task of choosing two pokémon of his own to face them. Nosepass was slow, but very resilient, while the Doduo presented a few problems. "Max, you're sittin' this one out." Stan muttered to the Machop on his shoulder. If he sent him out there, then the first thing Doduo would do would be to bury him in super-effective pecks, and that wouldn't do at all. So instead, his other two pokéballs were tripped, releasing Grim and Crash onto the field. The Gastly was fast and powerful, and would hopefully be able to handle the Doduo while the Larvitar concentrated on that Nosepass. Stan called out his first set of commands. "Grim, Dark Pulses on the Doduo. Crash, set yourself up, and 'quake." Grim was tasked with some quick pulses of pure darkness in an effort to throw the Doduo off its game, while Crash would polish himself for maximum agility, and trigger a powerful earthquake. It wouldn't affect the Doduo, but it wouldn't affect Grim either. The whole point was to cause severe damage to that Nosepass before it tried anything funny. Actually, the whole point of any of Stan's battles was to cause severe damage to the opponent before they tried anything funny. It was time to see how simple brutality fared against a higher level of competition. ~~~~~

0.3 ![]() If Dusk noticed she was being checked out, she didn't show it. She looked at Grim with some interest, as the woman easily fit the stereotype of goths being interested in ghost types and those similar, and then turned her attention to Crash. "Rip up that Larvitar." Short, simple, and to the point. It seemed Stan was dealing with someone equally accustomed to using brute force. A good offense could often be the best defense, after all. Grim was the first to move, firing off a wave of dark energy that struck Sword in her midsection. Both of her heads gave twin shrieks of anger, and she tore across the field to strike, not her attacker, but his partner. A flurry of pain-fuelled pecks and scratches cut surprisingly deep into his armor; Crash was left worse for wear as the Endeavor attack faded and Sword darted back again, but focused on polishing up his stone skin while ignoring the sting of his scratches. Crash used his new speed to his advantage and leaped up. He struck the ground with shattering force, sending waves of seismic activity pulsing in all directions. Sword squawked and jumped up to avoid the attack, but Shield was left to weather the move, bouncing slightly along the ground until it finished. Sword landed gracefully back on the ground, only to be knocked back with a squawk by another wave of energy. She tumbled backward and lay still, and Dusk's smirk became a frown momentarily as she recalled her. It was Shield's turn. The stone creature's eyes and nose took on a glow as masses of energy in the shape of boulders seemed to phase through the floor, and then flew at Crash as instructed. The Larvitar was knocked back, and smashed into the stadium wall before dropping to the ground, limp. The Nosepass then turned to Grim and shook his arms, knife-like shards of rock flying outward and then soaring toward Grim to tear through his gaseous body. Two on two was now one on one. Dusk's eyes darted to Stan, her smirk still in full force, and she seemed a bit more impressed with him now. She started to adjust her cloak and looked away, still smirking. Maybe he'd get a phone number out of this if he beat her.

(0.3 )After the opening exchanges, Stan looked at the resulting carnage, and nodded. He was right - Dusk was indeed as good as her reputation suggested. Crash being eliminated wasn't ideal, but at least the Doduo had gone with him. The big man recalled Crash, the Larvitar's job complete for now. That left Grim alone to face Dusk's Nosepass. Both were injured, and both would probably fall to a good solid hit, so there were no prizes for guessing what Stan was going to do. What made him that bit more confident of victory, however, was his Gastly's speed of reaction. The Doduo had been a threat not just because of its power, but because the bird was nearly as speedy as Grim. The Nosepass, on the other hand? Slow. Too slow, from what he'd observed. Of course, this didn't change Stan's strategy one bit. It took him but a moment to remember some basic type matching, before he spoke a single word to his ghostly battler. "Power." Of course, Grim translated this as Hidden Power, the move he'd learned via TM. The grey globules of energy that would be released as part of the attack tapped into the Gastly's potential as a fighter, as something that could see a rock in his path and promptly shatter it into a thousand pieces. That there happened to be a sentient rock in front of him was merely a happy coincidence.

.3 This battle was over and a white toothed snarl curled the lips of Dusk's pale face. Grim, using his unnatural power of speed flashed forward upon the stumbling rock before him. An ethereal fist solidified for just a moment, just long enough to clock the stony beast where it's jaw might be. It spun about on one stubby heel and teetered. Grim helped it to the ground with one final fighting empowered flick. The Nosepass fell and the dust rose from the ground about its still form. The crowd screamed and applauded. Stan's name would be remembered this day. "What a surprising turn of events! Who knew Stan Knife was hiding a Hidden Power up his sleeve."Cried the man behind the loud speaker. "That's it folks, this battle goes to our challenger! Give a round of applause for both contestants for such an exciting show!" The masses in the stands stood and cheered. Happy faces everywhere, everywhere but directly across from Stan. Dusk glowered behind the mask of her dark garb. "This isn't over. We'll meet again." She withdrew her Nosepass and held her head high as she strutted off the field. It was time to take a break before the next fight. 1.5 ![]() |

(0.3 )Grim was faster than the Nosepass. That was all that mattered, and that was why Stan had just beaten a professional pokémon trainer. Granted, Dusk hadn't been using anything like her strongest pokémon, and Grim was the best that Stan had right now, but that wasn't the point. He'd matched wits and power with one of the big names of pokémon training, on a level playing field... and he'd won. Awesome. The big man raised a fist in celebration as the crowd cheered, then flashed the same smirk that his opponent had been giving him throughout the battle. Clearly she had not been expecting to lose, and did not much care for it. Entirely understandable - no-one liked losing. With one final wave to the crowd, Stan turned and disappeared through the tunnel to take his well-deserved break. ---- Some amount of time later, Stan strode out into the arena once more, his pokémon fully healed and ready for battle. Perhaps this time Max could get a run out, depending on what he saw from the next pro. |

0.2 ![]() The portion of the crowd that now had high hopes for Stan erupted as he reentered the arena. The announcer encouraged this by saying "Ladies and gentlemen, let's welcome back Stan Knife as he makes his way towards his second match of the Pro Circuit Little Cup!" Heads turned to see the monstrously tall Stan stomping back towards his designated field, passing still fighting amateurs and pros alike. "Well folks, if this were a quieter arena, we'd all be in for a treat, but the only person to be dazzled by Stan's next opponent's performance is Stan himself. Welcome, ladies and gents, the the arena Ms. Edel O'Flaherty!" Many of Ms. O'Flaherty's fans cheered graciously as she waved around to them, a broad smile on her face. Stan's first impression of Edel was...green. She was wearing a healthy amount of it, including a green and gold plaid Tam o' Shanter atop her long red hair. Her freckled face now beamed towards Stan. The announcer continued, "Many of Edel's fans know of her unorthodox battling methods, but strange as they are they've helped her get through to numerous cup finals. Edel has yet to place first in an official Circuit Cup." At this, Stan noticed something she was carrying. With its bellows folded neatly closed, Edel was balancing a concertina in her hand, with her other placed smugly on her hip. "I hope you put up a good match!" She said, a thick accent in her voice. The referee then approached the sideline, directly in the middle and stated clearly, "The opponent will now release her Pokémon first. The challenger gets to call the first attacks." He waved a green flag to signal the start of the battle. Edel's perfectly straight smile broadened and she tossed two Pokéballs into the air. "Noel! Mairéad! We'll start off with 'The Pidgeon on the Gate'" The Pokéballs released their contents to reveal a Buneary and an Oddish. "Right!" Edel said and she began to play her concertina, pumping out a lively tune. Immediately, Noel and Mairéad began to spin and dance, weaving past each other in a figure eight sort of motion. This would be an interesting fight.

(0.3 )Showtime again. Stan's grin was wider for this second round match, his confidence high after that first victory over a pro trainer. Even if he lost his next battle, he had made a good showing for himself. There was no shame in bowing out now. Then again, he had no intention of bowing out just yet. His second opponent, one Edel O'Flaherty, was an interesting character, her bright, cheerful demeanour almost the polar opposite of Dusk Anthony's goth chick intensity. Stan gave the woman a respectful nod, and when she released her pokémon, he looked at them for a moment. Buneary and Oddish, eh? Crash wouldn't fare well against a grass-type, so the choice was easy. The big man turned to the machop on his shoulder, and motioned his head towards the arena. "Max, you've got this one. Grim's gonna join you." As Max leapt down and flexed his muscles in anticipation, Stan's Gastly materialised for a second appearance. As for his basic strategy, that was simple enough. Good old hyperaggression would suffice. That was what Stan knew best. It was around this point that Edel's pokémon started dancing, probably in a build-up to some kind of fancy trickery. This would not do at all. "Max, the Buneary. Grim, the Oddish. Go." Grim's to-do list for the opening exchanges involved shooting a ball of pure evil and darkness at the Oddish to try and tip it off-balance, then following up with a spookier projectile with a bit more kick behind it. Max focused on his greatest strength, namely, his great strength. The bunny probably wouldn't be dancing quite so gracefully after the Machop punched it in the face.

(0.2 )So there was sleep and confusion everywhere. Wonderful. At least from Stan's vantage point, it looked as though Grim's and Max's attacks were considerably stronger than those of their opponents. As they should be, with his choice of pokémon. The bunny was still up in the air in a critical state, and there was even a chance that its impending attack would eventually fail (thanks to confusion), so there was little reason to worry as of yet. The Oddish may be more problematic, but even it couldn't take much more punishment, surely? "You know what do you when you wake up, guys." He boomed. Could his pokémon hear him during their naps? Perhaps. But even if they didn't, they had battled enough to know that Stan eschewed strategic complexity in favour of just smiting the crap out of whataver was unlucky enough to get in the way. Even if their attacks were delayed, or hampered, they only needed one or two to connect. It all depended on when they decided to wake up. Damned Oddish and their sneaky spores. ~~~~~ Orders are in the table. Feel free to skip ahead until something wakes up.

0.2 ![]() Edel watched on eagerly, hoping that the two enemies being asleep would be the key to her victory. The concertina-toting musician called out to her two companions gleefully. "Follow it up!" was all she called, knowing that her tow little dancing creatures could put some serious fight down when they wanted to. At that, the Buneary dropped down from the sky and crushed down on Max's head, hopping away back to where it had been a little ways away from the Oddish. Confused as it was, it had still delivered its blow, but it looked real dizzy all of a sudden. Max had taken the hit like the fighting champ it really was; his tough skin and conditioning allowed him to survive the hit. Barely, anyway. It was a great wake-up call, though. Wake-up call enough to put a fist right through the Buneary's face and send it flying out of the arena. If it had been anyone else, the immediate thought would have been that the Buneary was one unlucky motherfucker. Struggling to stand, Max's hit had been powerful as all hell. Unfortunately, Grim wasn't waking up, and the Oddish was ready to move... and that it did purely by absorbing some health back into his body, what little Max had left, and dropping the Machop in one prodigious blow. Two of the fighters had fallen, and the battle was coming to a close. The Oddish was primed to strike again, ready to absorb the health from the Gastly... ...but then one eye flickered open lazily. Grim looked forward, wondering what had just happened. Had he fallen asleep in the middle of the fight? Unacceptable. Some hurt would have to be dished out in response to this travesty. For example, the Shadow Ball he'd been meaning to fire off for a while. That was probably a good idea. One ball of dark energies pulsated before Grim before he shot its contents towards the Oddish who had its little tiny eyes as wide-open as it possibly could, staring down Fate itself. Then, after a moment, it collapsed too. "Winner - Stan Knife!" the announcer screamed, sending the crowd into a frenzy. Edel nodded her head respectfully, summoned her two fallen comrades, and left the arena.

(0.3 . Here's a lolpost before Round 3)Bam. Once the Oddish fell, Stan punched the air in triumph, lapping up the crowd's frenzied reaction. He paused his celebration long enough to return the nod to Edel, then recalled his two pokémon, all the while letting the feeling sink in. He'd now faced two professional trainers in battle - and beaten both of them. Awesome. He strode off, waving to his new-found supporters. Once out of the arena proper, he had his pokémon healed up, then he turned his thoughts to the third and final stage of this gauntlet. --- Some predetermined time later, the big man re-emerged from the arena tunnel to take his place for his last battle. On his shoulder, Max had recovered completely from his last fight. Perhaps the Machop would have another shot at glory. It all really depended on the pokémon across from them. |

0.2 ((Okay, since everyone's putting crazy trainers in this, I'm going to subject you to one of my bizarre characters. Have fun!))The woman who stepped into the trainer's box to face Stan was a fox. No, literally. Covered head-to-toe in silver-white fur, the trainer's head was distinctly vulpine, with a long snout and large ears. Black hair sat pulled back in a ponytail, and her eyes glittered with human intelligence even as her lips pulled back to show a row of sharp fangs. Her body was human-shaped, save for the bushy tail, and she may have been fairly attractive if she were a human, if the fact that she looked like her scarlet battle armor could barely contain her curves was any indication. The outfit showed off her cleavage and legs, and had matching long gloves and boots, along with a golden belt with a massive buckle. There was a black paw symbol that looked burned into the fur and flesh below her collarbone, and two wicked, serrated daggers on her belt. "For his final battle, Stan Knife faces the mysterious and powerful Vulpes Inferno!" Mysterious? Flamboyant was more like it with that glittering armor and that brand. 'Powerful,' however, seemed accurate, as she drew both dagger and they, and her gloved hands, burst into flame. She twirled the weapons, to the oohs and aahs of the crowd, then extinguished and put them back, grasping two pokeballs in their place. She was almost like some kind of comic book superhero. Or maybe, given that her brand and eyes took on a blood red glow as her pokemon took the field, a comic book supervillian. "Good luck, human." She spat the last word.

(0.3 )Stan raised an eyebrow upon sight of his third opponent. Really? Had the Pokémon League pro circuit really run out of human trainers, having to resort to the best that alien worlds had to offer? He wasn't as weirded out as perhaps he was entitled to be, what with having met Floyd and everything, but still. A sentient humanoid fox creature was not something that one encountered every day, much less had the opportunity to battle. The distain in Vulpes' voice was obvious, and prompted only a slight smirk from Stan as he returned the wellwishing with a "And you." If her showing off was meant to intimidate him, it wasn't working. He was not an easily addled man. With a hand signal and a flick of a pokéball, Stan called upon the same pair of pokémon that had won his previous match. Grim and Max were a good pairing, providing both awesome power and excellent coverage of each other's weaknesses. Perhaps this time they wouldn't have to worry about forced naps - as far as Stan knew, Pichu and Lickitung couldn't put anything to sleep. "Play to your strengths, guys." The trainer said, prompting his two pokémo to pick their own targets. Grim went for the Pichu, eyes glowing in an attempt to lull the little mouse critter into a deep trance, or at least distract it from what Max was doing. And if that didn't take, perhaps a Shadow Ball would make it reconsider. Or just fall over, whichever. As for Max, the Machop was going to do to the Lickitung what he did best - use his fists on it. For punching, of course. Maybe an open-handed slap for good measure. -----

.3 "And Stan brings out, once again, his machop and gastly!" said the announcer, bringing the crowd to a cheer once again. "Is that lady even a human?" the announcer muttered to himself. Anyway, onto the battle now, gastly was the first to strike, being the fastest out of the four. The ghostly pokemon attempted to use a hypnosis on the pichu to try and put it to sleep, but the move failed due to the poor accuracy of the move. Although, the shadow ball that came after it didn't miss, scoring excellent damage on the pichu, almost knocking it out! Now it was the pichu's turn. With a limited moveset, there's not much that Sweet can do... except for paralyzing both your pokemon. It was a shocking experience for your gastly and machop, and what's worse, is that the lickitung quickly followed with two licks on your gastly. Ew. THEN POW! Dynamic punch to the face, bye lickitung. Although, the paralysis prevented your machop from finish off the pichu and quick win.

(0.2 )Stan allowed himself a slight smile as the outcome of the opening exchanges made themselves known. No more Lickitung to worry about - excellent. It was now two paralysed fighters against one critically injured Pichu. Even with Grim and Max being hampered by the residual static, Stan liked those odds. He wasn't entirely sure what the little yellow rat thing could do, apart from fire off electric attacks. Not that his strategy would change any. From the looks of it, the Pichu would probably keel over at the slightest contact. Best to press the advantge and just go for that final attack. "Keep it up, guys. Just a bit more." No fancy tricks, no time-consuming setup phases, no complex strategy. All that the Gastly and Machop had to do was ready their strongest attacks, and shake off their paralysis for long enough to deliver them. Either of them. Just once.

.2 "And this battle's almost over!" the announcer yelled out to the crowd, causing them to cheer again. The cheering of the crowd got Stan pumped, but for Vulpes, not so much. Even though the odds were against her, very against her, she was going to go out with a bang. Or at least, hoped to. "Sweet, shock that dreaded gastly!" she ordered. Her pichu, Sweet, nodded and quickly shot a jolt of electricity at your gastly, knocking it out. Now, it was only your machop against her pichu, but with machop with full health and Sweet only with a pint sized left, let's be honest, we know who's going to win. Unless... Nah. Sweet also shot a jolt of electricity, thundershock, at your machop, but it proved useless when she was hit in the face by a dynamicpunch. Not only that, but the pichu was sent flying out of the arena from the blow. Literally. "And she's going, going, going, GONE!" the announcer screamed. The crowd stood up to their feet and cheered Stan for winning all three battles, and continued to do so until they were tired of whistling or got that funny feeling in their hands from clapping too much (You know what I'm talking about, right?). In the midst of the cheering, though, Vulpes Inferno stood at her side, face turning red with rage. She whispered to you, even though she was across the battlefield, you heard her clearly, "This won't be the last time you see me, human," once again, emphasizing that word. And with that, she turned around left the battlefield, probably going to look for her pichu that you sent flying. But who cares about her?! That's three wins! 1.5 to ya!
