"How many assholes we got on this ship anyhow?"

"Masochist." Floyd grumbled bitterly to himself as he snatched up a lanyard and flipped the card over to spot the number. Elbowing his way back through the crowd, he couldn't have felt more like an idiot. It was his own fault though. If he wasn't so damn busy hunting mythical beasts, maybe he could have fought enough actual pokemon to challenge a gym. As it were, his own technical prowess behind the monsters he commanded was quite a bit more than rusty. He was tired of barely scraping by with his tail intact. "Well," He rasped gruffly, this time to the three pokeballs on his belt, "Least I get a chance to work with you guys."

He came upon the field marked with the number on his lanyard and gave pause. What could he expect? To lose? Surely. These were more experienced people than he. What did he hope for though. He chuckled to himself. Enough with is pessimistic momentum. Hope was too frail a word. Winning was his only goal. And as unlikely as this concept was, he would give this challenge of amateurs his best.

Floyd walked onto the field with his gruesome horned skull held high. The dark clefts of his grinning eyeless face, scanned the crowd. A rush of excitement swelled in his chest and he breathed deep the alien scents of the human crowd. Today he was not representing the OME. Today he was just himself, F'loyd'vise'k, Son of Tuseh'n'kresah'rraj'k. Torn jeans tailored to fit his stalking barefoot form, and a faded tank which proudly displayed the ink of his hard won HM tattoos spiraling up his arms - not a General, but a Scavian Hunter. And as a hunter he relished the challenge presented. He could taste the crowd's anticipation.

Finding his place he waited solemnly for his opponent.

The roar of the crowd that ensued as the gladiators marched to their designated fields momentarily confounded Floyd's senses. Of course, not horribly so; if anything it was just an annoyance. There was a deep-voiced boxing-style commentator announcing each competitor as they walked onto the pitch. "Lllllladies and Gentlemen! Please direct your attention to field number two where the General of the OME himself will be competing today! Put your hands together for your very own Flllllloyyyyyd!" There was a lot of cheering, probably more than Floyd may have expected, but behind the applause, Floyd could hear a percentage of the masses talking amongst each other in hushed voices. It was common knowledge that the OME's General was not of this world, but very few of these people had actually seen him in person.

"Battling him today is a fan favorite from the Pro Circuit, everybody welcome Jordan Hodges!" The commentator continued. A square-jawed man was now opposite Floyd on field number two. There was a deafening scream from what must have been the younger girl audience, for Jordan Hodges was devilishly handsome, and stole the hearts of many a junior high fangirl. He greeted his fans with a cocked smile and a practiced wave of his hand. "You may know him for his powerful Golem companion, Shocker, but today, since we will be playing by Little Cup rules, he will be using a pair of his lesser-known Pokémon."

This cued Jordan Hodges to regard his Scavian opponent with a wink and a nod as he tossed two Pokéballs in the air with one hand. "Lenny! Kline!" He shouted. The balls sprung open at each command and respectively, a Squirtle and a Bonsly appeared on the field. The announcer drew out Jordan's introduction for longer than he needed to, "Of course, after a battle against the OME's head commander, Lenny and Kline's reputation might change today! We're expecting an exciting battle of epic proportions folks."

A referee took his place on the sideline of field number two and instructed the battle's next step. "The challenger may now choose his two Pokémon for this round, he may also call out the first commands."

For reference, I just noticed I never made up my mind between using Baton pass and Bite for Pookie. Decided on Baton Pass. EDIT - Scratch that, Blakey says no switch outs so it has to be Bite instead.

Applause. He hadn't expected that. The OME wasn't so popular these days, and the damned announcer pointing out he was the General made him flinch. His orange cheeks blushed brightly in spite of his very best attempt to look like he didn't care. Well, at least the whole country didn't hate him - yet. If he couldn't even make it passed the first match though, he was in for a world of trouble. He'd never live it down.

'Well, Floyd. Now's your chance to prove you're not full of shit.' A little bit of encouragement was all he needed and in Floyd's world, this was as good as pep talks got.

Nodding respectfully to the self assured other across the field, he couldn't help noticing the rise in volume of the bystanders. No question who they wanted to win. Was this guy that good? Floyd wondered how the human felt about the match. Would he be trying to win, or was he already certain that he could best the alien in a single swipe? He certainly was preening like an overstuff peacock for the girls.

That did it. The heat flooding his face retreated and with a sober growl, and irritated flick of his tail, he plucked two pokeballs from his belt. Twin bolts of red lightning sprang from his hands and splashed across the sun bleached dirt.

Blinking large brown eyes against the light, Pookie the Blonde, made her appearance, and by her side the slippery dark form of Dart, her Croagunk cohort for this battle. The fru-fru dog was sure to earn more than a few giggles from anyone expecting the odd alien to be carrying something more ferocious. Hell, she was adorable and she knew it. Her ego probably outmatched Jordon's. Pookie lapped up the attention though, tossing back her head and giving her sheets of shining gold fur a little flip. It was all an act of course, pretending to be sweet. Pookie was really a mean spirited brat. The poisonous frog, and sometimes bartender, gave a raspy laugh at the dog's parade and focused on their two opponents. He was business as usual. What would Jordon's strategy be? It was hard to say, but Floyd already knew his. Divide and conquer.

"Precious." Floyd hissed sweetly to his little dog. "Rely on Dart to keep the turtle distracted. Take out the other with Iron Tail."

And that was all he said. What move the Master of Liquors used mattered very little, so long as he kept Lenny's attention on himself long enough for Pookie to show the squat fellow that pretty didn't mean stupid.

Racing across the field with her feather duster tail alight like red hot steel, the eevee launched herself at the bonsly. Dart leaped at the well armored reptile, ready to rap his noxious barbs across his shell.

As was expected, the crowd's reaction to the legally blond Pookie was a mix of giggles and sounds of endearment, especially as she flipped her hair for all her soon-to-be loving fans. In fact, a certain percentage of people that came to watch the Little Cup were the fans of cute Pokémon; it was actually rumored that Whitney of Johto's Goldenrod City Gym was amongst the crowd.

When it came to calling commands, Jordan was equally as cryptic as Floyd was. "Alright, guys, just like we practiced." The two Pokémon regarded their trainer tritely and leaped into action.

Both Pookie and Dart were faster than their opponents, and were able to strike first. Pookie's white-hot tail struck the shrub impostor with incredible strength, knocking him back a bit. Dart's purple glowing fist sped towards Lenny quickly, but the turtle had already set up a Protect shield, much to Dart's dismay.

The next trick up the opposition's sleeve was Kline the Bonsly's next move. He was suddenly charging towards Pookie, its green protrusions now glowing purple. He rammed Pookie who let out a squeaky equivalent to someone going "Oof!"

His opponent moved as one who'd done this many times before. Worse still, he behaved as if this was just another well rehearsed defeat in the making. Perhaps he wasn't being fair, judging the guy so quickly, but with the pressure of the human's adoring fan's bearing down upon him, he just couldn't help it. Being different was not always a good thing, and the alien found himself more determined than ever to prove himself.

Pookie was like minded but for different reasons. Her 'daddy' was way too paranoid about letting her battle. Always afraid she was going to get hurt. And now that ridiculous rock thing had just used her partner's own move against her. She swelled up and angrily fluffed out her pretty fur to twice her size from shear aggravation. There was no way in hell she was going to let Floyd know just how much that blow had really hurt her. He might not ever let her battle again! She darted forward and whipped about, slicing her burning white tail through the air and cutting at the stubby creature's legs.

Dart was unperturbed. He'd expect the turtle to be tough to beat but to hide behind a shield in battle? It made him laugh. 'Really?' He scoffed at the other. 'I didn't volunteer for this show just to have my opponent hide behind his own shell the whole time. Why not show me what you're made of? You hear those fans? They want to see some action. And so do I. Now fight me you coward!' Dart croaked loudly and lunged.

"Keep your cool, Dart!" Shouted Floyd from behind. Pookie caught sight of the flustered frog and knew right away how he felt. For the briefest of seconds her eyes locked with the alien's frustrated frown. She knew what she needed to do to prove to the Scavian that she wasn't the delicate powder puff everyone seemed to think she was. Instead of showing off her own bravado she howled an approving shout of support to her team mate, willing his strike to land with the same fury they both felt.

Dart, for his part, wretched up a noxious glob of oozing black slime and spat it in the face of the turtle with notable glee. Floyd could only watch and be proud of Pookie, whom he'd raised as a daughter rather than a pet. It was probably the most selfless thing she'd ever attempted.

0.3 :gexp2 Seeing that nobody else got this for two days, I'll get this.

"Keep on going, guys."

Unfortunately for the Bonsly, Pookie was simply too fast for him. One whack of Iron Tail, and the bonsai tree keeled over in defeat.

One down.

In response to Dart's usage of Taunt along with some nasty words, Lenny seemed to have abandoned all sense of defense and went for offense. Water gathered around his tail as the Squirtle abandoned his original battle plan, and charged towards the Croagunk. He spun around once he reached Dart, the Aqua Tail slamming into the poison frog. Dart was knocked clean off of his feet, but soon recovered.

Along with Pookie's yaps of encouragement, the Croagunk's cheeks swelled up as he built up the Sludge Bomb. He spat it out at the Squirtle, knocking it out cold in the process. Jordan withdrew both of his downed Pokemon wordlessly. He looked at you.

"You win. For now."

With that, he turned around and walked off the stage along with a cheer from the crowd along with the announcer's "And the winner is General Floyd of the OME! Let's give a hand for him!" However, you coulda sworn that there was muttering amongst the crowd at your victory admist all of the cheering.

The Bonsly fell and the turtle followed. Floyd's two had worked well together, and his two hearts swelled with pride. He knelt and opened his arms wide amidst the cheers and growls of the crowd, welcoming his two ridiculously happy pokemon back warmly.

He never noticed the grim faced Jordon's cold stare. The man had been positive he would win, that much had been written in his stance. But his words rang true. This was but one victory, and they still had two more opponents. To Jordon's back he merely nodded. A response would not serve to improve the man's feelings. Losing was not a pleasant feeling. This, he understood all too well. His time would come, but not without him and his team giving everything they had.

Cuddling his slimy little frog and precious ball of fluff, he hoisted the winded pair into the air, one to each shoulder. He grinned broadly, flashing his toothy head to the crowd. He turned about once, surveying the mass of human's he'd been too nervous to face before. Not all of them were too pleased to see him as the victor. Oh well, those few that liked Pookie were happy, and that was enough for Floyd. He scratched her fondly behind the ear and she yipped for her fans. Even Dart enjoyed the moment of attention. Floyd wouldn't stop them. After all, next round they could very well be the ones to fall. It was time to go. A brief rest and then they would be at it again...

"Ladies and Gentlemen! Allow me to welcome, for his second match, Floyd!"

The cheering was louder this time. Watching all these trainers defeat the Pros seemed to pump them up rather than wear them out. A lot of people looked like they honestly wanted the alien General to win, though one could wonder if this attitude would change after the chosen Pro entered the field.

"Jordan Hodges wasn't able to hold up against Floyd's team of Eevee and Crogunk. Now, he faces something a little...closer to home. Or maybe, I should say, even farther?"

The words seemed to immediately excite the crowd, though they likely made no sense to the Scavian on the field.

"One of Oppadekka's first strange visitors, she came to our humble region years before the Legacy migration!" Fog was beginning to pour in through the opposite door, likely someone's idea of a big entrance. "She made it her goal to break into and conquer the Pro Circuit, but hasn't been seen in the public spotlight in quite some time." The cheering was really starting now, as a dark shape seem to shift in the fog. "Breaking that streak and taking the field to fight Floyd, from a world far, far away, is Aurora!"

There was a roar, and a black shape leapt from the shadows to land, four-legged, in the trainer's box opposite Floyd. Covered in fine, black fur, her ears were long and ribbon-like as they flicked about. Her eyes were bright amber, all four of them, two in the place generally expected of something humanoid and the other much smaller and just behind them, and they blinked with see-through eyelids. Her face had a short snout that, when she grinned, or maybe she was snarling, she showed a mouth full of fangs. Her body looked more like a feline's than a human's, though there was webbing between her clawed fingers and toes, and she both had no visible nose or nostrils and what looked like gills on her neck.

She shifted, raising herself up to a two-legged posture, her long and flat tail positioning itself to balance her body. Her gills opened fully in a deep exhale of breath, and all of her eyes focused right on Floyd. One could wonder how she breathed in air if she seemed to have a water-only respiratory system, but people also wondered how Floyd could see without eyes. Earthly ideas of biology didn't always apply. It was clear, in her more upright position, that she was wearing a skin-tight suit the same colour as her fur, which had a rubbery sheen, the only splash of colour on her jet-black body being a brown belt with a set of pokeballs on it. It was also clear that she lacked certain recognizable features that female humans and Scavians shared; the fact that Aurora was female at all would have to be taken on her word, since there wasn't even a male of her species present to compare scents to.

Aurora's lips pulled back in what seemed like a friendly smile, if her expressions were similar to a Scavian's. There were a lot of teeth showing, anyway. "Let this be a great match," she said, her voice oddly deep and growling, her lips and jaws moving as best they could to reproduce human speech. She then grasped a pair of pokeballs and tossed them onto the field. "Coco, Rex, time to begin."

The first to appear was a small green lizard who dropped to four legs much like her master and hissed. Aurora's four eyes gave the reptile an affectionate glance. The second was a massive stone rhyno who looked around at the audience and blinked, looking somewhat perplexed and disoriented. It was probably his first battle.

If there was any wondering about why her name was 'Aurora,' the answer seemed to come a moment after her pokemon took the field. Small spots like a wildcat's suddenly appeared on the back of her neck, the outside of her arms and legs, and the top of her tail, glowing blue-green. Whether it reflected her mood, served a purpose, or was merely a biological ability she was triggering because the audience ate it up, no one could know, but she seemed determined to battle while looking like a one-creature Aurora Borealis.

Standing at the gate, waiting for his name to be called, he bowed his head and hissed a prayer to his far away gods. He prayed that he represent himself in a manner his father would have been proud of. So many things had gone wrong in his life. As a young hunter on his home world, he had been a coward. He'd come to this world lost, fearful, and full of doubt. He thanked the gods that his father had never lived to see his sons grown -- to see his many failures. He swore that if he ever found his way home again, he would return a warrior. No Scavian yet living would look upon him again and remember the foolish young man who'd hidden in his brother's shadow, afraid of demons and dreams. F'loyd'vise'k was born to be a leader, it was a pity it took losing his people to finally take up the reins passed onto him. Over the years he had changed, albeit slowly and fighting his destiny every inch of the way. Was his destiny to win the next match? Only the gods knew. Either way, he was ready.

In spite of winning in the first match, Floyd did not find himself at ease. He would never get used to the stink of so many humans in one place. Their cheers and jeers was white noise which hurt his ears. He was eager for his next match and longed for the next taste of battle. Who would his opponent be this time? Another famous nobody like the last? All these humans looked the same. Only their names set them apart. What did it matter who it was? They would either win or lose, and either be an honorable opponent or one he would regret ever having met.

The announcement was made and he was summoned to the field. He held his armored head high but resisted the urge to look to the stands. His gaze was set upon the platform directly opposite him, still empty. The announcers words were ringing in his ears and the newcomer was on the field before he could believe what was being said. Another offworlder. Could it really be true? He couldn't help his surprise as the cat like creature padded to her platform and rose gracefully to her hind legs. Aurora was her name, and what she looked like was enough to make his blood run cold.

The Republic, the enemy of the Empire, the enemy he'd been sent to fight before the incident with the wormhole, he'd been in contact with a good many of their dominant race. Felines, the whole lot of them. Tall and graceful, beautiful really, but arrogant and greedy. Granted, Aurora was not the same species in spite of the feline relationship. Corrusian's did not have four eyes or gills. They were a desert people. This one looked half salamander. The implication of a watery origin brought his approval and dampened his initial impression.

Aurora flashed her fangs while he still yet gaped, as only an honorable warrior might, wishing them both a good battle. His cheeks brightened with embarrassment for comparing her to a Corrusian. No desert cat would ever wish a Scavian well. He regained his self control and bowed deeply to her in return, searching for the proper words, and pushing away a thousand questions cluttering his mind that he wanted to ask her.

"All battles are great, beautiful Aurora. I promise you a most memorable one." He returned her toothy grin as he straightened, and in the same motion plucked two pokeballs from his belt in the same manner as the first round, one to each hand. She released her companions, and he called to his. "Pookie! Oberon! Nyne! Cy'k dre." He laughed, his low pitched voice resonating in his own throaty tongue across the field as the pretty puff ball appeared to his right, and the scuttling insect to his left.

"Precious." He called to his prissing pup who was happily prancing for the fans. "Be on your guard for this one." He warned her carefully. "Oberon, cut down your foe quickly. I've promised Aurora a great battle. We had best deliver."

The blonde eevee bounced over to her partner and licked his hard chitin carapace. There was an exchange of words where her large brown eyes never left her opponent's while she whined into the anorith's ears. His stalk wavering eyes glimmered with interest as their plan was set. Very daintily she climbed to his back, crouched low to his exoskeleton and hooked her claws under the layers of hard chitin. When she was settled The bug was off like a shot, wings fluttering across the dusty field. As for his passenger, her golden coat emanated a new sheen which radiated like a shield...

Aurora, being covered in fur, didn't have visible eyebrows, but the faint ridge of flesh above her two main eyes acted the part by raising in slight surprise. Beautiful? Me? her expression seemed to say. She had been amongst these near-hairless primates for a number of years that Floyd could only guess at; when was the last time someone had complimented her in such a manner?

The sight of Floyd's pokemon seemed to banish her surprise, and she let out a faint rumble at the sight of the prancing lapdog. The sound was admiring, rather than threatening, and Coco glared jealousy at the blonde canine.

The aquatic feline's 'gills' opened to take in a deep breath, and she roared as Pookie started to get on Oberon's back. The sound was deep and threatening to a human, but compared to Floyd's throaty voice she sounded feminine and melodious, almost as if she were singing. The flaps of skin on her neck opened and closed independantly of eachother, modifying the sound like the holes of a flute. She hit about four separate 'notes' in quick succession before falling silent, the brightness of her glowing spots shifting in subtle patterns the entire time.

Coco's head snapped up at the beginning of the roar, and she only looked away after it was finished. The treecko nodded her head determinedly and rose to her hind legs in a fluid motion, taking on a battle stance. Rex still looked confused, clearly not fluent in his trainer's native tongue, but there was no time to puzzle it out as Oberon raced across the battlefield, claws glowing and raised. Coco stared him and his fluffy, sparkling passenger down, not moving an inch as he crossed the distance between them.

Then Oberon's claws slashed in an X-shape, only to meet thin air. His opponent had launched herself into the air, leaping backward to land four-legged a distance away, eyes flashing red. Aurora rumbled approvingly, but Oberon simply whipped around to shoot a stream of water at Rex. The stone beast let out a pained bellow, his claws gouging the arena floor as he was pushed back. He shook furiously, dislodging the lingering drops, and bellowed again, this time in rage.

Coco darted around in the background, her form blurring with speed, but she wasn't the immediate threat. "His underbelly's unguarded!" Aurora shouted, her growling voice vibrating through her entire body, "Megahorn!"

Rex charged, and lowered his head until his horn, glowing faintly, scraped against the ground. Aurora had figured out exactly what Pookie was doing, and no one made their way to the Pro Circuit without seeing Protect being used in a number of ways. While putting Pookie, and by extension her shield, between Oberon and danger was a sound strategy, Pookie couldn't surround her fossil mount completely. Oberon's eyes went wide as Rex's horn hooked underneath him and the rhino tossed his head, sending the both of Floyd's pokemon flying. The little eevee bounced off of the ground and back to her feet, unharmed, but Oberon was a different story.

Aching from impact with the ground and the stab to his underbelly, it took a moment for the anorith to realize that Pookie was gone, just long enough for Rex to close the distance with galloping strides. He reared up and smashed both forepaws into Oberon's back, pinning him there like a cat with a mouse. Aurora rumbled again softly, glowing with a motherly pride. "Good boy, Rex."

So the treeko knew agility, and with it had easily one upped Oberon in speed. A sound tactic further impacted by the ryhorn's attempt to pin his bug in place. Floyd could not help but agree with his opponent. Like himself, she wanted to take out the quickest target first. Great minds think alike, so they say, and his curiosity about where she had come from continued to be a constant aggravation. At least until one singular thought hardened his heart to any attempt to reach out to her. If this creature had been on earth so long, and with his own unwanted publicity -- the good and the bad -- his existence would not have been a secret to her. She could have reached out to him at any time. Her lack thereof said one thing. She did not need the companionship of a non-human as badly as he did. And, being a typical male scavian, he wasn't about to let a female know that she had wounded his pride without even lifting a claw.

There was one thing he could do though, and that was show her that his species never abandoned their own. Not even when it might cost them a victory.

Pookie had skillfully regained her feet and was shaking out her fur when she caught sight of poor Oberon, squashed beneath the heavy foot of the rock headed beast. From the corner of her warm brown eyes she could see the treeko warming up for its next attack which would surely be disastrous for them both. Being raised as Floyd's daughter, in spite of the species difference, meant that his morals were her own. Family meant everything, and Oberon, for all his physical differences, was family. And right now her buggy brother was in trouble.

"Pookie!" Floyd's voice rang across the field. She didn't need to look at him to know what he wanted her to do. She could tell by the solemn tone of his resonant voice that he believed he was throwing the battle for the sake of doing what he would do in a more serious situation. Floyd would always see to his own first. That was just who he was.

She couldn't have agreed more, and was glad to hear that her thick headed daddy wasn't so hell bent on making a name for himself that he would forget his own standards for the sake of impressing a lady. She had one chance to outmaneuver the now limbered up reptile, and she was going to use it to save Oberon from the Ryhorn's grip. But what then? Well, since there was no assurance that she would be able to beat the Treeko to the punch and shove the ryhorn away, she would just have to cross that bridge when she got to it.

Drawing together her own inner reserves, and with her plume of a tail glowing brightly, the blonde eevee streaked across the field for the Ryhorn. Her intention? To plow into his side with all the force of an iron canon ball - a pretty canon ball. Floyd nodded, his expression grave. He was not consenting that the feline was the better fighter, only that his own self respect dictated that the well being of his family come before any win. Having Pookie rescue Oberon by attempting to knock boulder brains out of the way, and hopefully out of the match, was his way of putting his point forward. In a way, he was advertising his principles before every man and woman watching, including Aurora.

Oberon was in pain. The ryhorn's goring had knocked the wind from him and the heavy foot bearing down upon his hard shell. Struggling for each breath was a challenge. He did the only thing he could, he hardened his resolve and through sheer determination set his mind to holding out for as long as possible. He stalk eyes were watching the treeko though and his pincers, unable to reach back and claw at his oppressor, hungered for the other reptile also out of reach. If only he could wriggle free, he meet that grass type head on and show it that speed wasn't everything.

Floyd folded his arms over his chest and with jaw set, he waited for Aurora to make the next move.

Aurora noticed the change in Floyd's demeanor, if her confused expression was any indication. His solemn shout was followed in a split moment by an orb of white hurling itself into Rex's side, sending him toppling over and sliding along the ground. The iron cannonball uncurled and stopped glowing to become Pookie, and her victim was left out cold. Her insect brother could only gasp for breath as the weight holding him was knocked away, then recalled.

Aurora's muscles tensed as her Rhyhron vanished in a flash of red. The more minute changes in her appearance, her widening pupils and more ragged breathing, would be impossible to detect as such a far distance, but the fact that her body temperature, already a bit higher than a human's, started to rise may yet be detected by Floyd's senses. Her claws seemed to extend, and she looked wild, fangs hidden by lips pressed together and ears flattened to her skull. She looked ready to race onto the battlefield and fight alongside her remaining pokemon, chains of self-control pulled taut trying to keep her in the trainer's area.

She was a mother, and Pookie had struck down her child.

She retained the ability to speak, at least, and seemed to remember that this was tournament battle rather than life-or-death as she growled out her order, "Coco, finish off the--"

Instead, Coco streaked across the field, screaming, and smashed a fist into Pookie's face, followed by another. Oberon's hardened shell turned out to be uneeded. The rage of a sister who watched her brother fall, living by the law of, 'If you can't prevent, punish,' was deaf to a mother's commands. Aurora roared, trying to regain her precious lizard's attention, but it was in vain.

Oberon's attack struck true, ripping flesh without any protection or larger brother to deny him. Coco didn't even seem to realize what had gone on, changing from shrieking rage to out cold in a single moment. She sank to the ground, then vanished into her pokeball.

The audience exploded in applause, humans chanting Floyd's name. Aurora paced in the trainer's box, her animalistic rage, and high temperature, fading as she did so. The glow of her spots had faded, and she was rumbling something in a pitch below human hearing, words of her native language pouring from her lips in a torrent. As the announcer gushed about the victory everyone had just seen, she looked at Floyd.

Hesitant. Uneasy. Mildly sheepish. Longing. She lowered to four legs, tail twitching nervously, and rocked from side-to-side, as if mentally debating something.

Then, she darted across the field in long, leaping strides, and stood upright right in front of her Scavian opponent. "When you promise something memorable, rokro, you deliver," she rumbled, flashing her fangs in a hopeful manner. The alien word was formed more deliberately with her lips, unaided by her bioluminescence, the r's rolling in a growl and the k forming in her throat like a bark and punctuated with a click of her jaws snapping closed. Her tone implied it was a term of respect, or at the very least not an insult.

She raised a clawed hand gingerly. "I...wish I had been able to meet you sooner," she admitted, but her ear gave an annoyed flick toward one of the cameras and she did not elaborate. "I believe the custom here is to shake hands after a match, yes?" she added, holding her hand there for him to take.

Offer taken or refused, Aurora would vacate the arena quickly, as the announcer talked about leaving for a rest and coming back, things that Floyd knew by now and the audience didn't care about as they continued to cheer on the victor of the offworlder-versus-offworlder match.

His hearts pounded anxiously, his nerves frayed as he watched his Precious take a furious beating from the little grass type. Pride for his daughter steadied him, allowing him to observe with set jaws as Oberon surprised him again. The little bug somehow found the strength to return Pookie's quick save, cutting down the wily reptile with a sort of cold cruelty and rescuing his sister. The two were left alone on the field, supporting each other and watching with shocked awe as the cat lady raced by, confronting a startled Floyd. Pookie was sure she was going to eat his face or something.

Floyd's breath caught in his throat as the strange female was suddenly in his face. He couldn't even hear the crowd shouting his name. For that brief moment, she was his world and his mind tripped over itself trying to think of how to respond. He stammered after her words and finally nodded, offering his own hand to hers and clasping it firmly. Then, almost as an afterthought, he clasped his other hand over hers, capturing her briefly with a more intimate moment. His nerves smoothed out, and he bowed to her, smiling as genially as his species was capable.

"Hys'k che..." He purred in reply and watched her go, the smile on his face curiously still plastered in place.

Pookie and Oberon felt the strange moment between Floyd and the Cat Lady and passed and wearily approached, well aware of the crowd still cheering for them. Floyd's expression changed to one of overflowing gratitude. He rushed toward them and scooped them both up, holding them high for the humans to see. Pookie managed a very tired yip and Oberon waved a claw. Right now all they really wanted was to rest, but Floyd couldn't help himself. He was sure that the other alien, one who had proven herself already among the humans, had bested him.

"I can't tell you how happy I am of you two." He told them as he left the field. "I really never expected to make it this far in the contest. Not because of you guys, but because I don't feel like my leadership would go so far. We're a team, if you lose, its because of my own failing. But you didn't. You really came through and showed Miss Aurora what you're made of."

Pookie snuggled close, happy to be away from the roaring mass of people. The rest was welcomed and they did not enter the field again until they were well refreshed. This time Floyd was all nerves. He wasn't worried about losing, he was worried about letting his team down. Having made it this far meant he had nothing to be ashamed of by losing the third and final match. But to win meant even more. To lose was understandable, but to win would be a milestone in his career that he couldn't ignore.

He waited on his side of the field for his final opponent. He waited for more than a match, he was waiting on a final judgment that he alone could see.

.3 :gexp2 I have been given permission to throw yet another thing of WTF at Floyd. Hope ya enjoy. :D

Floyd was one of the few individuals who had made it to the final round, and like the others he was hoping to win. No matter the species, most trainers had the same frame of mind about this kind of stuff. They all just went about it differently. Some were cocky, and some got nervous. Regardless, life went on.

The alien's final opponent walked up onto the stage. On all four paws.

At first glance it looked like a giant bird that had four legs and a long tail. And that was half accurate. It was bright red, with black around his yellow beak and solidly glowing white eyes. Aside from his yellow, scaly-looking front legs and the black on the edges of his tail and wing feathers, he was a solid bright red color. Once you got over realizing that it was a gryphon-cardinal, you realized that it was made of metal. Entirely of metal, from the hooked beak to the individual feathers on his fanned tail.

Boy Opaddeka is an awesome place.

Hello! he chirruped happily, ears sticking straight up, Good job making it this far! I'll be your last opponent. My name is Cardinal! Good luck, he seemed to smile somehow, and turned his head down to the two previously unnoticed pokemon near his feet, Ready you two? Do your best~

He helped the aron and nosepass onto the stage and eagerly waited to see what Floyd was going to send out.

At long last the alien had arrived at the last battle. What would happen if he won? He really didn't know. He hadn't entered this competition for prizes. He'd entered hoping to prove to others and to himself that he deserved his title. As he watched his final opponent enter the field, another chill of surprise shivered up his spine. Another non-human! This was fantastic! It was almost as good as having won! No human could know the loneliness he felt, and to see others, so different from himself but in similar plights was heartening. He was not alone.

This one was a gryphon of sorts, but that was not what was important to Floyd. What he cared about was the creature's friendly personality. This was certainly someone he wanted to know better. What a good natured being this was! Floyd was sure that no matter the outcome of the battle, that neither he nor the halfling would be sorry.

"And to you as well!" He returned the well wishing to Cardinal. The other's pokemon were revealed to be a steel and rock type. This battle was well chosen as his last, because Floyd was sure it would be the most difficult, not because his opponent was better than those previous, but because Cardinal had chosen his team well. Floyd would struggle to gain an upper hand on the two walking fortresses. Who would he choose?

Floyd released Pookie. She worked well with either of her two team mates and she had the most experience in actual battle. But who else? This was the hardest decision Floyd could possibly make. Either Dart or Oberon would do equally well, but it was the fact that Oberon's last battle had been so difficult on him that led Floyd to choose Dart.

The frog appeared in a pulse of momentary light by his side. Floyd observed his opposition warily, wondering what tactic Cardinal would choose with such a defensive team. His tail twitched eagerly and then he decided. "Dart, be wary of those two."

The frog knew exactly what to do. There wasn't much he could do that was truly effective against such a tough adversary. He could outrun them both and catch them off guard, and that was it. Dart raced across the field, with Pookie beside him, dipping low as he closed in, he scraped up a webbed handfull of dirt and spat water into the mass, dredging up a wad of mud that he then send splattering into the Aron's face. He then canted quickly to the side, knowing he was open and sure his attack couldn't possibly bring down the sturdy steel type.

Pookie on the other hand took a different approach. An all out assault on the nosepass. Her tail glowing brightly she leaped upon the slower rock and made to smash her power imbued tail into Mrs. Nose's face. Once, and again, she battered at the rock with all the fury her small frame could conjure. Floyd could only watch, silently willing his companion to to be swift and sure. A good measure of luck was needed for them to win, but Floyd wasn't about to count his pair out just yet.

"That'a girl, Pookie!" He bellowed across the field. "Show these humans you're no push over!" Maybe, just maybe his proud words of encourage might give her the strength to stay in the game. He saw Dart rolling off to the side, trying to dodge an attack he was sure would come and Floyd's fist clenched tightly. "You can do it buddy. Stay on your toes...."

When Pookie appeared on the field, Cardinal's ears shot straight up, and he regarded her with intense curiosity. He even went so far as to climb up on the railing of the arena and stretch his metal neck out to try and see her better. With wings fanned out and tail waving in the air, he balanced there.

What a cute little eevee! he grinned. Cute or not, it wouldn't change how he was going to go about the battle. Both of Floyd's monsters were going to require some thought to take out.

Alright Ydrof, iron defense and then iron tail for the frog! Nose, disable that eevee and hit it with a power gem! he called out, tail swishing merrily. He nearly pitched forward into the arena, and took that as his cue to get down from the rail and look around sheepishly.

The pokemon sprung into action, Dart slapping the aron with mud and Pookie smacking the nose in the face. Their opponents retaliated by hardening up and zapping the furry dog-thing with a bolt of electricity. Dart rolled away, missing getting smashed by Ydrof's tail (huh?), but Pookie wasn't so lucky. She got a face full of light and gems, falling back and unable to attack again.

Looked like Floyd had a bit of an upper hand, but things could easily change.

Contrary to what the playful Cardinal may have thought, 'upper hand' was the last thing on the alien's mind. His opponent's boisterous and playful personality was refreshing -- relaxing even -- to the point, that for the first time that day, Floyd remembered that he hadn't wanted to enter this battle as a military representative, but as a regular Joe out to have some fun. He grinned broadly as the halfling whom he very much wanted to know better. Two non-humans in one day! Suddenly the Earth did not seem so bleak a prison to be trapped on. Would he have a chance to exchange contact information with the gryphon and perhaps find Aurora later (he really wanted to ask her out for drinks that evening, if only to learn more about her)?

Pookie was in a tight spot though, aggravated at herself for being surprised by an electric attack. She hadn't known a rock type could use those. Apparently, neither did Floyd. However, Cardinal 's friendly attitude had placed him in such a good mood, he was determined not to let one slip dampen their spirits. "Shake it off, Sweet Heart! Block her!"

The little blonde Eevee heard her 'daddy' calling out behind her. He didn't sound upset at all - something that surprised her. Usually when she was hit, he took tone of worry as if it was the end of the world. Floyd was a tad overprotective of the little dog and it annoyed her to no ends. But his light hearted air and words of steady encouragement took her mind away from failure. Maybe Floyd was learning that she could take care of herself. Stubbornly, she threw up a quick shield of energy, protecting herself because she knew there was no way she could coax her muscles into cooperating in time to avoid a second attack. And as she braced herself there on the field -- a lone ball of golden fluff hunkered down in a tight little knot behind a shimmering field -- she spied her partner as he recovered from his dodging roll. The aron was bracing for a second volley of attacks and preparing himself to unleash something terrible. And with Mrs. Nose able to zap things, she knew Dart was open for attack from both.

'Hurry, Dart! Take him out quick!'

The frog was concentrating on a second mud-slap and never looked her way, but he certainly heard, and he smiled to himself. Pookie wasn't so bad, once you got to know her. The spoiled little princess could think for herself, but when push came to shove she was always ready to pitch in where help was needed most. And right then it was his confidence that need boosting. Aron was a steadfast and powerful opponent and he couldn't help but feel like he'd bitten off more than he could chew with this battle. Floyd and Pookie didn't think so though. In spite of the odds, they still held onto some sort of dazzling star struck dream that they could overcome the impossible. Well if they could, he could too.

Dart mustered up a grim expression and raced toward the defensive aron, a hand full of mud ready in one hand. And then he swerved unexpectedly, darting between the two opposing pokemon, putting his back to the Aron and himself between the two. He was running toward Mrs. Nose now, his impulsive direction pulling the aron's attention after him. Dart hurled the wad of mud at the nose and jumped quickly, as high into the air as his froggy legs could propell him, again attempting to dodge what he couldn't see but knew was bound to come. His plan was simple. Direct both other pokemon away from Pookie, and while between them, attempt to time his jump so that any attack launched from either of them, would rocket toward him, and as he leapted away from the assault, the two pokemon would strike each other instead. At least this is what he had in mind. It was a long shot to say the least - trying to trick his opponents into accidentally attacking each other instead of him.

As a bit of a side-note here: I rolled two d20's to figure out if Pookie would be disabled (1-5) or not. One of the die is orange (7) and the other is red (13). >.>

The halfling whistled quietly as he watched, just like the bird he was styled after. But, like the lion, he suddenly crouched in a pouncing position, tail waggling in the air. From this angle, he kept his white eyes on the arena.

C'mon guys, get'emget'em, he chattered, beak clicking. He didn't specify any attacks, but the two pokemon appeared to know what he was talking about. Or they were just really good at acting on their own.

Pookie managed to get her muscles to work long enough to toss up her shield, and cheer on her teammate. Dart, faster then the two rock types moved to get between them and hurl some mud around with his teammate-boosted muscles. It smacked into the nosepass, but not enough to faint it. She teetered on the edge of consciousness, going to attack with her metal-and-rock battle partner.

Ydrof and Mrs. Nose fired off a stream of mud and a huge bolt of electricity at the same time. Aron, with the sand in his eyes, couldn't quite see and just hurled mud in Dart's general direction. Thus, face covered in mud with more incoming, Mrs. Nose unleashed a blast of electricity up into the sky after Dart, having more sense then her partner.

Oooooo~ Cardinal sat up again, looking at the pretty electricity.

The exchange ended with Dart landing in a crouch like some kind of badass ninja, and the nosepass falling over. While the red bird whirred with disappointment and withdrew the nose, Ydrof charged the frog and swung an iron tail that he somehow had, which is just as well because it missed anyways. Seriously, how does an aron even use iron tail?

The three of them could hardly believe their luck. The moment Dart veered off from the aron, he was sure the crazy stunt would cost them. He was preparing himself to pat Cardinal on the back and congratulate him on the best battle he'd had all day - and see if he wanted to hang out some time. And then suddenly Mrs. Nose was out of the running and Pookie and Dart were, still reasonably sound and whole. Two against one were not good odds for Cardinal, but Floyd wasn't willing to be overconfident just yet. This bird was in the Pros for a reason. He was sure that little aron of his would pull off something absolutely spectacular before this battle was through.

"Nice work, Dart!" He called out, because it was the truth. His frog's fancy foot work had surprised HIM even. "Don't let your guard down though." Both of his pokemon nodded to this, though Pookie's movement was somewhat twitchy. That paralysis was an extremely unpleasant and difficult condition to manage and he could see that it was wearing on her reserves.

Dart eyed the aron closely, and in a crouch began to circle, deciding the best way to approach the steel type was to strategically place the other between himself and Pookie. No matter which one of them their opponent focused on, he would then leave himself open for attack from the other. If Dart were in his same place he would do just what he had last round - dodge and lure them into striking each other. This only because he lacked a move that could bombard them both at once. But what would aron do?

Pookie watched warily as Dart circled. She wasn't sure what he had up his 'sleeve' but she knew he wouldn't be relying on her to attack successfully. And then it occurred to her, that neither would aron. Pookie began to yip and cheer for Dart in a pretense that she was already excluded from the battle, as if she were merely a bystander and the two were facing off. It was a ploy of course, to help cement the idea that she was out of the game. Perhaps she was, realistically speaking. But she was going to help insure that Dart wouldn't miss if she could. She spread out her paw over the gritty earth and dug her little claws in.

"Hey metal head!" She shouted obnoxiously. "You need someone to show you how to use Iron Tail!" Again another ploy to deceive, to lead him off the wrong track. LEt him think she was attacking. If he turned to look, then, trying her hardest to overcome her unresponsive nerves, she dared to send a spray of sand into the aron's eyes.

It would be the perfect opening for Dart, who was prepared to face his opponent head on with two fist fulls of mud, with or without Pookie's help.

Cardinal's biggest problem was a pretty simple one. His pokemon were exceptionally slow. This wasn't normally a problem, because while slow, they were highly defensive. A nasty 4x weakness on his best fighter was the second biggest problem. Not everyone had a ground-type attack on their side, but Floyd was lucky enough to have one.

So without drawing this out any more then it has to be, it will be finished simply. Dart was fast, and an expert at flinging mud around. Ydrof nor Pookie even got a chance to move before Dart hurled his first handful of mud. Even at its lowest power, it was enough to flip the aron onto his back, defeated.

D'aaaaw, Cardinal chirred, ears drooping, while the crowd went crazy around them.

"And the winner, defeating three opponents, Floyd!" the announcer called over the arena. It was someone different then before, but the noise was easily lost in the din of everyone cheering and screaming for Floyd. Everyone loves a winner.

Everyone loves a good sport, too. Cardinal got Ydrof's ball in his beak and withdrew the little steel type. A compartment on his chest opened a little, and he dropped the pokeball in there, letting it snap shut after. That taken care of, he opened his wings wide, getting a gasp from the crowd, and catapulted himself into the air. He flapped once, and landed on Floyd's side of the arena.

Up close, he was a tiny bit taller then Floyd (especially with his ears) and his red armored self had a kind of metal-flake quality to the red color. Hey, good job! Smart idea bringing that frog with you, his beak opened in the best grin he could do, and he offered a clawed talon to shake. Sure, he had birdfeet, but it was the gesture that was important, right?

Floyd wins! Another 1.5 whatever!EXP for you.

And the battle is over, but if you want to talk to Cardinal for a bit, I'd be more then happy to post again.

Floyd was sure Cardinal would have something else up his sleeve, but when Dart rushed in and ended the battle, he had to admit he was as blown away as the crowd. And then it hit him.

He'd won.

Floyd T. Scavian was no longer a nobody known only for his job as General. Immediately, he hurried onto the field and gathered up Pookie and hoisted Dart to his shoulder. He held them up for the crowd to see. After all, this was more their victory than his. And then Cardinal landed in a flurry of wings and dust, larger than life and Floyd beamed with pride, overjoyed both on account of the battle and because of Cardinal simply existing.

He clasped the gryphon's bird claw in his hand with a firm grip and nodded, very pleased. "Dart is one fine pokemon." Floyd agreed. "He's sharp, gotta give him that." The alien blushed a little, not really liking to give himself credit for the win. He attempted to change directions quickly. "I have to say though. It was a pretty close call! You were my toughest match, I was sure you had me there when your nosepass zapped Pookie." The little dog yipped at Cardinal and let her tongue loll goofily. Then he got to the point. Here was no place to carry a conversation, not with the hordes of people roaring in his ears. He pulled his poketech and passed it to the bird. His contact info was displayed. "What do say we get together sometime?" He offered tentatively. "Forgive me for being blunt, but it's sort of nice knowing a non-human. You and Aurora really made my day. I thought I was the only one here. It would a be pleasure to buy you a drink sometime."

He grinned broadly and awaited the halfling's reply. Then, a very happy alien bid his new friend farewell, and left the field with his very tired, but equally pleased pokemon.

Cardinal bobbed his head, straining to hear Floyd over all the cheering and noise. He got the point, though, and pulled his own poketech from the same compartment as before, and sloppily jabbed at it with his claws. Eventually he got Floyd's number, and managed to dig up his own.

Yeah sure! Just give me a call sometime, he chirped, letting Floyd get his number.

The bird smiled and bobbed his head again, heading out of the arena to get his own monsters healed and head off to the next adventure.

Got Cardinal's number! If Floyd wants to see 'em again, just drop me a PM and I'll do my best to mod ya sometime. :D
