I swear this valley is stealing my soul. :<

And so Cerb found herself back out in the squishy, muddy, foggy land surrounding Misthenge. "Mew forbid I pass through this way ever again," she grumbled, squinting around into the whiteness before shrugging her shoulders. At least it was warmer over here than on Italicus, although quite a bit more humid with all the cloud cover everywhere. The teen could almost imagine her hair curling at the ends, ew. On her shoulder, Sparky was running his paws repeatedly through his fur to try and brush out all the little static crackles being spawned by the water vapor. At least by this point Cerb was so used to it she barely noticed, although the occasional loud SNAP by her ear made her flinch.

"Roll call!" Pokeballs went flying everywhere, bright flashes in the mist that grew into larger solid forms. Cerb looked affectionately upon her brood before she got hit with a blast of cold air to the front and almost fell over. "...thanks a lot, Wendigo," the teen grumbled as Sparky hid behind her head and chattered Pokemon obscenities at the horned iceball.

Wendigo cackled, frozen breath oozing out his mouth in pale white clouds. The fog around him grew cold and firm, before beginning to drop to the ground with soft 'squish' sounds in the form of small ice chunks. Cerb stepped faaaar away from him and inched around to the rest of her Pokemon, patiently standing and some watching the Glalie with mild disgust. "As some of you may have guessed, our mission is to get out of this stupid fog," the teen said, reaching up to ruffle Epona's fluff. The Arcanine's tail began to wag, the tip swishing softly across the soggy grass. "But I'm not desperate so you don't have to run this time, Epona. After all, the others have to be able to keep up," she added, looking over at Hercules.

The Nidoking seemed very confused, and rightly so. He was geographically far away from his place of origin, and had barely even heard of fog. The sight of Xena sitting next to him, solidly bored with the whole process, seemed to inspire him to exude the same level of confidence. Cerb resisted the urge to snicker into Epona's mane as she watched their onesided interaction. "Y'might have to watch out a bit when we reach the sinklands, but that's what Delphi's for," she said, glancing over at the Absol. Delphi was busy sniffing the air, her tail twitching like a radio antenna. "Anyway, I have a present for ya Herc!" Cerb pulled a capsule out of her pocket and popped it open to reveal a familiar tree. Hercules growled and leaned forward to study the plant, his giant claws gingerly reaching out to clutch the pot and lift it up. "This tree is all yours to look after now. I'd say it needs water," the teen looked over at Delphi again.

Hmm? Oh, right. Water. The Absol made a gurgling noise and hocked up a jet of water, which arced through the air and came down neatly onto the berry tree.

Hercules made a purring noise and very carefully cuddled his plant pot, careful not to spork the tree on his horn. When Wendigo came floating over the Nidoking snarled at him, pulling the pot away and raising his tail warningly to swat the Glalie. Cerb sighed and rolled her eyes as she watched, before pulling herself up onto Epona's back and settling onto her shoulders. "Kill each other on the way, guys. C'mon, we've got a long road ahead of us." Epona barked in agreement, snorting some embers from her nose before she turned and padded off. Still growling at the Glalie, Hercules trotted along behind Xena and left Wendigo to bring up the rear, freezing the air in his wake.

Is there anything Delphi can't do? She melts ice, waters your plants, and I'm sure she can julienne fries, too. Handy, that.

But in any case. Foggy area is foggy. Makes for fun travel, not being able to see more than like three inches or so in front of your nose, it does. Luckily the squishy sounds of everyone's steps in the mucky earth made sure that nobody wandered too far away from the rest. It still left the concern of not really being able to see where they were stepping.

And indeed, with a soggy sploosh, Epona pulled up short at last, calling a halt to the entire procession, staring with dismay at what looked to be some sort of large pond or sinkhole or something. With the fog, it was impossible to tell how large it was, and the murkiness of the water made it impossible to tell if it was merely one large shallow puddle or if it turned into something actually requiring swimming, but there it was. Hum.

Obstacle: Lake? Puddle? Something large and wet anyhow.
Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That is why it is called the present. ~Oogway

Delphi is my Swiss Army Absol <3

The going was slow through the fog, but Cerb didn't mind too much. Between Delphi and Epona burping embers and Sparky's ambient electric glow, there was decent enough light to cut through the foot or so of white in front of them. The teen could hear Hercules squishing along with Xena just to the left of the Arcanine, and the only reason she knew Wendigo was still there was because the Glalie was breathing down the back of her neck. Literally.

"I got off Icicle to escape the cold, you know," Cerb grumbled at the ice ball behind her and turned up the collar of her coat. At this rate she thought she could get brainfreeze from all this exposure on her spinal column. "Back off a little Wendy, I don't want you getting this air all cold right before my baby hatches."

The Glalie grunted and dropped back like three inches as Cerb checked the pouch on her belt. It was beginning to wiggle faintly, which was a great sign. Great in that they actually weren't in the middle of the water this time.

Sploosh. Did I say no water? Nevermind.

Epona whined and backed up a few steps from the puddle she'd stepped into, raising one paw at a time and shaking them off as Cerb gripped at her neck fur, wincing as each of the Arcanine's shoulder bones ground into her thighs. "How big do we think it is?" She asked down to Delphi, who had indeed not ended up in the puddle. The Absol shrugged and belched out a stream of flame into the fog, while Cerb squinted and tried to see how much water the firelight was flickering over. "Ooookay. It... could be big. I wonder if we're on the edge of the sinklands."

There was a moment of meditative thought, during which Epona leaned down and sniffed the water with another whine. "Hmm... This is what I keep you around for, Wendigo. Get out there," Cerb said finally, pointing out at the water. Even more sinister than the Death Star, Wendigo floated forward until he was hovering over the puddle-lake-thing. Then he glowed bright blue, and dropped.

Epona jumped back and Cerb covered her face as waves of cold washed out from the Glalie. The sound of crisp crackling filled the air as inch after inch of water froze almost instantly under the effects of the sheer cold. Cerb nervously peered up a minute later and made a face at the new temperature in the air. "I think a blizzard or ice beam might have sufficed, Wendigo."

The Glalie grinned, his marble-blue eyes bright as he rose up out of the icy crater he had created and rolled his way back over towards the party. Epona growled and stepped back further, her nose wrinkling with the sting of ice. "Wendy, maybe you better stay in front to make sure it's all frozen," Cerb said, nudging Epona in the sides to make her move forward. Wendigo floated off, followed slowly by Epona as she picked her way along the rippled, slippery surface. Delphi trotted before Hercules as the Nidoking did his best to step gingerly on the ice, his pot held high and firmly in his claws. Xena padded last, her short legs and claws making scrabbling noises that told Cerb she was still there.

Hopefully they could get off this now-ice before the Eevee egg hatched. That might be more awkward if Epona was sliding around everywhere.

The frost crunched softly beneath their steps, and there were a lot of steps from the travelling party. More fog steamed off the ice and clung to fur, scales, hide and cloth, and made most everyone vaguely damp from the waist down. Quite a flooring job by the Glalie, considering.

They stalked across the makeshift path for several dozen feet further, thereabouts, before it decided that the Nidoking was really too much. There was a loud snap on the lumbering beast's next step, a sound that hissed through the fog like a cold objection. There was a deep 'CRACK' that followed from below, the noise thrumming up through to his legs. And then there was creaking and popping, the thick air filling with echos of a big sheet of ice about break up in less than amicable circumstances.

Say that the Glalie, powerfull as he could be with his ice-capades, didn't have time to mend all of the fractures now exploding from the ground. Too many, too fast, a waste of time if he tried.

The instinct now woud be to run, at least if this were a scene from an action movie, and there would be a dramatic overhead shot now of the protagonists racing against the quickly forming spiderweb of cracks rippling out after them. Thrilling leaps and bounds would've been required as they dodged the fissures bursting beneath their feet like a growing snapshot of frozen lightning.

Perhaps they did, we'll say they did, but it wasn't required. The first leap would've thrown them through mist, then into surprisingly firm (to the point that it's more accurate to say 'hard') ground. Solid. Earthy. There was even grass here. It was damp, the kind that didn't quite soak through all the way but seemed to stay and suspend itself within the fabric for a long long time.

Splashes behind them signaled the path that way was no more. Generally though, which direction they had been headed now was hard to determine. Fog was even thicker here, the air so rich with moisture that it tickled the throat when breathed. Strange thing, this fog. The GPS system in the poketech came up with question marks instead of any helpful suggestions. Compasses appeared undecided on which way they thought North could be. Even pokemon that had an impeccible and likely inexplicably acute sense of direction were stumped.

The valley is a big area, deceptively so given the maps that were extolled on every cartographic catalogue or device available to a trainer in this day and age. So which way could they go?

There wasn't a North, South , East or West to go by. It was just this way or that way, or maybe over there? Right now they all stood on some kind of solid ground, but who knew how far along they could get before the Sinklands explained to Cerb what that name was all about?

yeah, after all that you've made it to Sinklands 2.

How are you doing that with your mouth?

Epona trotted as carefully as she dared across the slick surface, with Cerb deathgripping on her neck fur the whole way and glancing around at her Pokemon every few seconds. For now, the ice seemed to be holding, which was great. The shore couldn't be too far away now... hopefully, anyway.

Oh shit, problems,

Aaaaand there went karmic retribution, right along with Delphi. Cerb twisted around on Epona's back and grabbed for her Pokeballs as the first CRACK rang out from right underneath Hercules, the Nidoking temporarily freezing in confusion. He didn't know what the sound of cracking ice meant, he'd barely ever seen it in his life. Cerb, however, was familiar with icy death situations and whipped out both Hercules' Pokeball and the container for the berry tree, recalling both into safety before Epona took off across the ice. Even if it wasn't particularly deep around there, she didn't want to take chances.

That left her three quad canine-ish critters sprinting across the ice as fast as they could get a grip on it. It only took two bounds for Epona to catapult herself onto solid ground, and the Arcanine skidded on the grass for a few steps before she regained her footing. Delphi was already there, the Absol looking infuriatingly unruffled by the whole ordeal. Then again, Cerb was starting to believe that Delphi was magical and thus didn't care that much. She was more concerned with Xena, as the Granbull plopped herself up on the shore and panted a few times. Of course, Wendigo was able to drift serenely across the cracking ice, his freezing body creating an unblemished path beneath him. Now back on a solid surface, the Glalie rolled around a few times in the air as pieces of the mist froze up and dropped out of the sky around him.

"Well that was... harrowing." Cerb looked around to make sure the area they were currently on was solid ground, as much as she could see anyway, before returning the Nidoking and his plant pot to the open air. "Sorry for the suddenness Herc, but I didn't want you to drown or anything,"

Hercules rumbled and looked around, his ears twitching slightly in more confusion. They were off the ice, on firm ground now, he appeared to be fine, Xena was over there, and his plant pot was on the ground. The Nidoking carefully lifted up his pot and inspected it to make sure there was no damage to the tree and the soil wasn't getting too dry, before growling in delight when he noticed there were now ripe berries to be picked. Cerb watched with some degree of amusement as Hercules set the pot back down and extricated the fruit with the utmost care, handing the large green watmels over to her in his giant claws.

"Thanks, Herc. Not bad, hunh?" The teen shifted both Pikachu and backpack so that she could store the fruit inside. Pleased with himself, Hercules went back to tending his plant and picking up the pot from the squishy ground. Once Cerb was satisfied everything was in place, she pulled out a watmel and tossed it in Delphi's direction. "Here. Thanks for disaster-detecting,"

OMF NOMF DELICIOUS BERRY, the Absol was white and the fog was white, so Cerb could just barely make out Delphi doing her shark impression on the airborne berry. Now that everything was square, the teen was about to nudge Epona onwards again when more ominous cracking sounded.

At least this time, it was from her hip. "Man, now is like, the event time of the hour or something," Cerb mumbled as she extracted the blanket-wrapped egg from the pouch on her hip and settled it into the space between her thighs, partially nested into Epona's mane. The Arcanine twisted her head about to see and whuffed, having never had an egg hatch on her back before. "Easy Epona, it's gonna be okay,"

Most of her team out that actually cared came tromping over to witness this event. Hercules loomed with his plant pot while Xena sat on the ground, her stubby ears pricking up and down as the cracking escalated. Cerb ran her hands over the eggshell, feeling for a weak point and vaguely aware of Delphi appearing while trying to lick berry juice off her snout. Finding what seemed like a good spot, Cerb rapped on the shell and broke a small hole in it. The baby Eevee spilled out seconds later, mewling and covered in egg goop.

"Hush now, it's alright. Let's get you dried off... Sparky, the bell, if you don't mind," the teen muttered as she began to rub the Eevee off with the prepared blankets. Sparky chittered and scrambled around on her shoulder so he could begin digging in her pack, looking for his old soothe bell. Meanwhile, Cerb cleaned bits of eggshell out of the baby's fur and discarded the largest piece left over to the ground. Epona was probably going to have a fit trying to clean herself later. The Arcanine was still whining, and the fact that it was a constant sound since it had been born was probably the only thing keeping the baby Eevee from freaking out.

"I need another hand or something. Delphi, can you tell what it is? They never seem to appreciate getting The Look," Cerb sighed, remembering attempting to tell the gender of her baby Gible. The Absol tilted her head to the side and sniffed a few times, looking thoughtful.

I believe you has a baby girl now. Shocking.

"No kidding. See my twelve percent chance finally pay off." A ringing next to her ear signaled that Sparky had found the soothe bell, and Cerb took it from him to fasten it carefully around the Eevee's neck. She squealed and shook her head; large, damp ears flopping back and forth. "Don't be afraid, hun. See, it sounds nice, right?"

The ringing sound produced made Hercules gape a yawn, the fog thankfully muffling the sight of his large fangs.

'cha gonna name her 'cha gonna name her, Delphi chattered, rearing up on her hind legs to see better. The little Eevee squealed again at this thing in her space, though to her credit she swatted out with a paw after a moment and hissed. Delphi chortled, her tail beginning to wag again. Ooo, she's a feisty little one.

"And probably either a credit or discredit to her grandmother," Cerb mused dryly, reaching back to get a watmel from her bag before slicing it in half along Delphi's horn. "I think I'll call her Tetra. Here baby, lunch."

Tetra sniffed at the berry halves before the sweet smell convinced her these would be delicious, and the Eevee dove in with gusto. By this point, 90% of Cerb's Pokemon were staring at the Eevee, although she continued to treat them like they were invisible. "Definitely some credit to her grandma," Cerb mumbled to Sparky, the Pikachu chittering quietly in agreement. They were, of course, referring to the regal terror that was Zelda. Since they couldn't go anywhere before Tetra finished her first meal, Cerb busied herself with extracting a luxury ball from her pack. As much as she would have liked to keep the Eevee with her, the teen was afraid that all this damp air might be bad for her little baby lungs. It wouldn't do to have Tetra come down with a cold before they reached their destination.

Eventually Tetra finished slurping down her berry. The Eevee licked her face and paws clean and yawned, looking ready to settle down for a nap after that big meal. Cerb chose that moment to spring the luxury ball. "Time to go to sleep in here, Tetra. It'll be nice and comfy and quiet." Tetra looked a bit muzzily at the black ball, but she was tired enough not to protest when Cerb pressed it against her back and sucked the Eevee up. The ball pinged out of sight into the internets, waiting for future retrieval.

"Well, that's that taken care of too. Take the lead for now, won't you Delphi? Don't want to go running into another pond or something," Cerb sighed, shaking off the blankets on Epona's back and cleaning the last bits of shell out of her mane. She could trust Delphi's bizarre, innate sense of direction to not lead them totally astray.

Okeydokeydoke. Keep up, peasants, Delphi cackled, all set to spring away except for Epona grabbing her tail at the last minute. Oi! Leggo, ya huge mutt. I must be freeeeee,

"We're going to lose you in the fog otherwise, Delphi. You're white," Cerb pointed out, even as Hercules gently gripped Epona's tail in his claws. Xena was hitching a ride on his tail, which the Nidoking was quite happy to do. And Wendigo was... lurking way too close for everyone's comfort, but at least they could tell where he was with the constant freezing of the fog and dropping of the ice chunks. "Just go slowly."

Oh fiiiiine. The Absol huffed and padded off, leading the conga-line of assorted Pokemon through the squishy mists.

3 on the berry harvest

Stomping through the fog, all in a neat little row, your party couldn't see more than a few feet in front of your faces. This is where that otherwise useless HM no one cares about comes in handy. But where's the fun in that! Much more interesting to go in blind, then you're always surprised. Even Delphi Doomsayer.

From out of the mists a shadowy tree trunk loomed! An ominous groan echoed across the marsh and then the tree fluttered its wing like leafs and flew away...

Wait, what? I know. Trees don't fly. Guess that means the tree was a pokemon.

And then the pokemon snorted over ahead, the thrum of its wings beating fiercely. It landed right in the midst of you. The Tropius' long neck swung about, forcing you to scatter. It either didn't like you there, or this was a very pushy hello.

Pot 1 [Watmel Berry + Growth Mulch + Rich Compost] - Berry [1/5], Water [3/3]

--

Sometime in their peaceful marching along, Hercules nosed his plant pot and noticed with dismay that the soil was getting dry. Cerb nearly jumped right off Epona when the Nidoking roared behind her head, and an answering jet of water went sailing up in a neat parabola to splat into the berry pot. "How are you doing that?" Cerb squeaked, rubbing at one of her ears and feeling slightly deaf while Hercules purred over his now-damp pot.

Maaaaagic, the Absol trilled, trying to wag her tail and pouting because Epona still had it pretty firmly between her teeth. Half inclined at this point to believe her, Cerb slumped back onto the Arcanine's neck and glanced around to make sure all her followers were still... well, following.

And then things continued on like normal for a while. At least until a Tropius crashlanded right into their midst.

Again, Cerb nearly fell off as Epona yelped and bolted forward, letting go of Delphi to leap clear over her. The Absol remained mostly unphased, and seemed to be trying to hold back a chuckle. "Did Tropius suddenly fall off your radar or something, Delphi?" Cerb hissed at the Absol as she watched Hercules stumble backwards, keeping his precious plant pot as far away from this giant leafy thing as possible. Xena was growling on his tail, the bulldog's ears warily back.

No, I just thought it would be funny. And hey, the giant mutt let go of my tail! Added bonus~

Cerb would have facepalmed, but it looked like Wendigo was about to rip a blizzard on the Tropius and bury it in six feet of snow. "Wendigo, you stop that. Leave the poor thing alone, it's not bothering anyone." At least not yet, we think. The Glalie pouted and huffed a frost cloud before rolling around the path of the flying tree to resume his original position near Hercules' backside. The Nidoking had been steadily edging over while shielding his pot, and was now back near Epona. The Arcanine looked about ready to either bolt and fry something or bolt and run. Cerb wasn't looking forward to either possibility, winding her fingers tightly into Epona's mane.

"C'mon Epona, let's keep going. Delphi, you get back in front... and please don't let more Tropius drop on us unannounced." The Absol grumbled and flicked her tail, swatting Epona in the nose with it when the Arcanine went to try and grab it again. Whining, the giant dog followed along, the end of her tail back in Hercules' grip to lead the Nidoking. Wendigo rolled in the rear, keeping his eye on the giant plant thing for as long as he could - constant vigilance or the urge to bury it in snow, you decide.

But the Tropius wasn't quite as innocent as you had expected. Your self-restraint was admirable, but it fell unappreciated on the belligerent brute's ears. You and your party slipped quickly around him... and his mood went from playfully antagonizing to furious.

He waited a few moments, until you were a few squelching footsteps ahead, and then flapped his big leafy wings, lurching off the ground and trailing behind. He caught up quickly, and hidden by the thick fog, drifted right above the wanderers below. Then, he dropped out of the sky, dropping much in the way clouds do not. With a heavy thud, he crashed to the ground, sending mud and water splashing into the air and splattering your clothes.

Nope. You weren't crushed. If it hadn't been for an overripe banana falling on your head, you wouldn't have quickly deduced that, oh shit, there's a pissed-off Tropius right over top of me.

Unfortunately, Wendigo wasn't quite as quick-witted. The Tropius stood back up and stepped backwards, mouth contorted into a sadistic smile. The Glalie was crushed into the viscous ground. With a great effort, he wrenched himself free. Floating meekly into the air, dripping disgusting gunk and thoroughly upset and expecting to retaliate.

And noooow we go to war.

TROPIUUUUUS!

WHUD. Apparently Wendigo wasn't fast enough. Epona nearly went a foot forward in the air as Cerb squeaked and clung to her mane, twisting around once the Arcanine had stopped jumping to see what the damage was. What she saw was Wendigo rising slowly up out of the muck, the Glalie's blue eyes bright and dangerous as his sharp fangs clicked once.

"Oh hell, he's goin' postal," Cerb gulped and ducked down behind Epona's head, peeking up over the Arcanine's ears. Epona backed up rapidly, mirrored by her other Pokemon as they cleared away from the flying tree and the furious iceball. Meek was not a word that would describe Wendigo even on his off days, and the Glalie never did anything by halves either. Cold winds suddenly began to whip up around the horned ice ball, freezing and cracking off the gunk that coated his icy armor.

In light of this new development, Hercules hunkered down behind Epona as best as he could and curled up around his precious plant pot to ensure the impending doom would not damage the tree. Cerb was still hiding behind Epona's ears, with Sparky having slithered down between the front of her jacket and the Arcanine's mane to escape the wind.

Wendigo shrieked and his winds reached a fever pitch, before what felt like all the fog ever in the air suddenly became solid and crashed down on the Tropius in wave after wave of snow. Wendigo's version of a body slam was far more devastating than anything the giant flying tree could have done to him. It kind of helped that he was righteously pissed off too.

Cerb watched from her hiding spot and very grateful that Epona was ridiculously warm. "S-s-so, Ep-p-pona," she began, her teeth still chattering slightly from the freezing winds, "In c-c-case Wendigo doesn't f-f-freeze it, burn it up,"

The Arcanine wagged her tail slightly, opening her jaws to let her breath steam out. Epona didn't want to get any closer to the current battlefield than necessary, but it wouldn't require much moving to toast some flames out onto the Tropius.

Maybe it occurred to the towering, leafy beast that he had bitten off more than he could chew with this one, or maybe he wasn't quick-witted enough for that. He certainly didn't attempt to escape. He stood tall, surveying Wendingo and he shed the layer of mud.

Then all of the fog and mist in the area turned solid, and rushed at the Tropius in a blink of an eye. He was surrounded in a roiling white orb, thinning into simple harsh, icy winds. Then it cleared as quickly as it came, he was frostbitten, his beautiful leaf wings bare, his beautiful brown skin pale. But Tropius was a trooper. He managed a single step forward, and a dozen or so leaves rustled from within him. They jumped into the air, but then collapsed just as he did, defeated.

+1.2 :exp to Wendingo.

The blizzard had a second, unintended effect. Most of the mist was sitting on the ground as snow and ice. The air was clearer, the path ahead was more definite. Though, you now shivered instead of squinted.

Cold, harsh laughter split the air as Wendigo cackled with both glee and victory. Oh, but it felt so good to prove he was still the coldest bastard on this half of the world. The Glalie didn't seem to care that all the other members of the group were staring at him like he was insane. Which, well, he partially was. A lot.

"...g-g-good for you, Wendigo," Cerb mumbled finally after staring through frost covered glasses for two minutes and determining that just staring was not going to help anything. She pried them off her cold face and wiped the glass in Epona's warm mane to clear the frost before putting them back on. Now that her vision was clear, Cerb was pleasantly surprised to find that Wendigo's villainous breakdown had also cleared the air in more ways than one. All the fog had frozen and was now lying around in snowdrifts. Not very high snowdrifts, but it was the thought that mattered.

"Th-this is pretty awes-s-some." Cerb hunkered back down against Epona's mane, where it was nice and warm as the Arcanine whined and stared warily at Wendigo. The Glalie looked about four seconds away from nomming on the Tropius, as was the nature of the beast. Freeze their prey solid and eat it leisurely, according to the Pokedex. Epona's frantic whining began to alert Cerb that something was still wrong here, and she glanced over just as Wendigo opened his mouth to crunch off a bit of the Tropius' wing. "Wendigo, NO! We don't eat other Pokemon. That's just wrong!"

"Glaaay," the Glalie grumbled sulkily, floating away from the downed Tropius with a frown. That was a waste of good food right there, and right after he'd gone through the trouble of freezing it too. Cerb watched to make sure the Glalie floated around to the other side of the group and away from the frozen tree before checking on her other tree.

"Herc, how's the plant doing?" She asked the Nidoking. Hercules grunted, slowly uncoiling himself and standing up to shake snow off his back. The tree was still in his claws, whole and un-iced. Cerb studied it and the Nidoking thoughtfully. Xena was still huddling between his legs, the bulldog's short purple fur standing straight upright. "I think you guys could all use some blowdrying. Epona, if you would?"

The Arcanine barked and wagged her tail, her mouth opening to breathe a steady, gentle stream of hot air over the Nidoking and his passengers. Hercules relaxed considerably, the Nidoking looking down to the pot to check on the state of the soil and the budding berries. Cerb made sure that Xena wasn't shivering any more, and eventually the Granbull crawled out of hiding to make faces at the snow on the ground. This was probably a new experience for almost all of her Pokemon, seeing snow.

"If we're all set, we should probably take advantage of Wendigo's clearing the air to move quick," Cerb noted, glancing off into the distance. It wouldn't take long for fog to roll back around and cover in the hole the Glalie had inadvertently formed, and Cerb didn't feel like using continuous blizzards to speed up the trip. She had just come from a cold place, and she was looking to soak up some sun. "Think you're up for a little jog, Herc? It'll help keep you warm."

The Nidoking glanced down at his pot, hefted it in his claws and growled. He could manage a short jog for a little while. Nidokings were built for spontaneous murderous rampages, but they weren't built for long distance running. Satisfied with that at least, Cerb gently kneed Epona to get her moving and the Arcanine jogged off, her warm body steaming a path through the snow that Hercules stamped vigorously along. Xena scampered after and continuously glared over her shoulder at Wendigo, who somehow managed to keep up without trying and was also refreezing the path right behind them.

White. Pure, blinding, unclearable white. The fog that clouded everything was cold now as Winter came to pass through Opaddeka. Snow was falling in thick white sparkles and had already begin coating the ground; Cerb and company brushed through the first few inches of snow as they crossed Murmur Valley. Wendigo lagged behind them lazily, magnifying the effects of the oncoming snowstorm.

Cerby's party found itself in the thick of the fog marsh. Visibility was zero and the whole earth looked like one big white blanket. The Nidoking's footprints were the first in line to disturb the endless expanse of white, and only where Epona stepped did any hint of grass peek through the snow. The weather had dropped noticeably, too, and the further west Cerb traveled the sharper the wind bit against her skin.

The sudden rush of winter, especially before Wendigo's blizzard had even begun to fade, was uncanny. The whole of Murmur Valley felt thick with an eerie resonance. Epona was the first to hear the infamous "murmurs": a low wail, quiet and low yet dreadfully audible, echoed from somewhere behind the fog. It called to Cerb as she progressed and seemed to be getting louder over time.

When her party had reached the heart of Murmur Valley - characterized only by the perpetual, unclearable fog - the wailing stopped and came from behind Cerb instead. It was a low, pounding, incessant murmur. White snowflakes covered the head of the jogging Nidoking. Panting, he began to slow down. He didn't turn around, however: if they steered off the path now it would be nearly impossible to get back on track. Everything was the same, impenetrable white. Welcome to the fog marsh.

At least they were finally moving without interruption, strange cold weather aside. Cerb just hunkered down further into Epona's fur and rubbed at her temples as the Arcanine trotted briskly along, some little voice bottled up inside her head yelling that this trip was taking far too damn long and the first thing they were doing after getting Fly was zipping down to freaking Corporcana. Of course, there were still necessary things to take care of up here, first. Ah, priorities.

Speaking of. Hercules shook some snow off his head and nosed his berry plant, growling to Delphi. The Absol looked up from picking her way through small drifts and made a face. Oh c'mon man, we're surrounded by the crap, water your own plant,

"Delphi, be nice,"

Pbleth. Delphi paused long enough to shoot another of her water parabolas at the berry pot and flicked her tail in its general direction before trotting away. Cerb sighed and rolled her eyes, resting her chin on the top of Epona's head and feeling Sparky squirm against her stomach. The Pikachu sure had to be nice and toasty, sandwiched up between her jacket and the Arcanine's fluff. Sometimes Cerb wished they could change places for a day and she could be cute and furry.

"I think the others could use some more hot air, Epona," she muttered into the Arcanine's ear. Epona huffed and slowed in her jogging, turning back and opening her mouth wide to breath a cloud of heat backwards at the party. It washed over Hercules and his berry pot, Xena plowing her way along, and of course Wendigo practically shrieked and rolled out of the way to float on the other side. "Oh stop that, you're not gonna melt."

The Glalie huffed, blowing some cold air at his trainer and continuing to float along moodily. Cerb shivered and turned up the collar of her coat, hugging Epona's fur more tightly. Hopefully they could just keep moving at a constant pace and get the heck into clearer air without any more interruptions from the fog. The weird noises weren't particularly bothering anyone at the moment, mostly because Cerb was used to this stuff by now. Being on your third trip or so kind of does that to a person.

And if they ran into more Tropius or something, well... Wendigo, baby. That's what he's there for.

The murmurs were your only way to measure progress. Where you stood now was only marginally less white and thick and wet than last time, its appearance so insignificant a change that you felt you might have made it up. But the murmurs, those you had to trust. They were behind you now, slowly fading away.

Yep. Trust the murmurs in your head.

You reckoned you were in Mist Valley now. Seemed about right.

Some patient plodding along later and those creepy noises were slowly fading to the background. Cerb didn't exactly notice this until she saw that Epona's ears were no longer swiveling and twitching nervously, and took that as a sign that they were out of the marsh.

"Gods be praised," she mumbled, lifting her head up to look around at the crew. The ground was no longer snowy and while the air was still less than clear, it wasn't a completely thick, choking white. Instead, things held more of a grey tint to them as well as being humidly warm. Tugging on the collar of her jacket, Cerb sat back to enjoy this nice air and hoped Wendigo wouldn't come swooping over to spoil her fun. At least she could see the Glalie now, sulkily floating off to the side. "I think we've officially passed through the worst of the fog, guys. Should be cake from this point."

I want caaaaaaaaaaake, Delphi input from up ahead, looking back to wag her tail. Cerb shrugged, as she had no cake in her pack at the moment.

"Maybe when we reach Mayriver, Delphi." With less of a need for urgency now, Cerb looked over to make sure Hercules was doing alright and getting a nice breather at this walking pace. The Nidoking huffed occasionally through his mouth, but he didn't look to be on the point of falling over. That was a relief. "I think the berries are ready, Herc," the teen pointed out, gesturing to the berry pot.

Hercules grunted in surprise, eyeing the big green berries for a moment before transferring the pot to one clawed paw and carefully snapping the fruits off with the other before handing them to Cerb. The teen checked each one as she stowed them away in her pack for later consumption, nodding in satisfaction.

"If this keeps up, maybe I could start another tree," she mused, drumming her fingers into Epona's mane. Hercules rumbled and wagged the tip of his tail at the prospect. He wouldn't mind seeing the whole process of how one made a very productive tree from the start this time, instead of being handed a tree to watch.

Mist valley was full of... well... mist. There really wasn't much else to say about it other than that. The lack of visibility is an ever present danger to the occasional traveling trainer. Luckily for Cerby, the fog held no dangers for her today. Or at least that's what I would like to say.

The lack of visibility made it hard to see what was ahead, and even though Epona was a reliable steed, even she did not see what was ahead. Suddenly, Cerb felt herself slide forward and land with a splash. When she managed to dig her way out of the three feet deep pool of water, she'd find that her Arcanine had lost her footing and fell right into it. Poor Cerb, now she had to deal with the smell of wet dog. Thankfully only the Arcanine and herself fell so it wasn't that bad.

On an unrelated topic, the tree produced three Watmel berries!

SPLASH.

"...gods be damned,"

Yoooou shoulda been paying more attention, Delphi observed, wagging her tail from the edge of the pool. Cerb glowered at her until Epona leaped out with a whine and trotted off to try and shake herself dry. Cerb herself settled for flailing around near the edge until Hercules took pity on her and wrapped his thick tail around to use it a bit like a forklift. The teen wrapped her arms around the purple scales and held on as the Nidoking effortlessly hauled her out and deposited her on the grass.

"Thanks for that, Herc. Man, I wonder how Epona missed that puddle and the rest of you didn't." Wringing some water from her jacket, Cerb sighed and looked around to see where the Arcanine was. Epona wasn't too far off, the giant dog slowly trotting back and curling her lip at the water stubbornly clinging to her fur. "There you are. Delphi, help Epona will you?"

Okey-dokey. The Absol sniffed once at Epona and wrinkled her nose at the smell as the dog whined. A'ight mutt, stand still, 'cuz I'mma be setting you on FIAH! The moment this proclamation was issued, Sparky sprang from Epona's mane and splatted himself against Hercules' forehead, clinging to his horn. The Pikachu was definitely not as fireproof as the Arcanine, and he would like to stay unburnt.

Cerb shielded her eyes from the sudden bright as Delphi unleashed a torrent of flames at the Arcanine. Epona's fur spit and sizzled as its flame-retardant properties came to life, diverting the fire harmlessly around her body while evaporating the water within seconds. It wasn't long before the Arcanine shook out her now-dry fur and barked at Delphi. You're welcome, the Absol mumbled, burping embers into the air.

"Well, that's Epona sorted out... So now me, eh?" The teen queried, sliding off her backpack and resting it on the ground. Epona whuffed and opened her mouth to breathe her stinky, scorching breath over her trainer. Cerb squeezed her eyes shut and tried not to think about her skin blistering from the heat as she felt the water begin to evaporate into the air. It didn't take long for the dog's extreme blowdrying to get rid of the damp. Brushing some hair out of her face, Cerb slowly blinked her eyes open and looked around to make sure everybody was still in the same place. Aside from Delphi darting through the mist to chase Wendigo and burp embers at him, everything seemed to be pretty normal.

"Delphi, don't chase Wendigo or he's gonna kill you," the teen sighed, reaching up to retrieve Sparky from the Nidoking's face. Epona whined as she watched the ember flash get intercepted by a gust of snow and the two white Pokemon growled at each other from within the mist. Rolling her eyes, Cerb settled Sparky on her shoulder and swung herself back up onto Epona again, this time making sure to grip her mane firmly in her fingers. "C'mon guys, we'll just let the family feud catch up."

Heeeey, wait just a minute! Delphi came shooting out of the mist to take her spot in the front of the pack and waggled her tail indignantly in the air. I'm leading this expedition, you can't leave me with icicle ass.

"Then don't fight with him," Cerb mumbled, hearing the Glalie hiss from behind Epona. The Arcanine flicked her tail nervously and trotted off, leaving the two purple monsters to trail behind her and Wendigo continually threatening their rear with frost.

The fog was thick, very thick now. Sometimes, you felt like you were swimming instead of walking. The moisture brushed against your skin, sometimes even leaving a streak of wetness against your cheek. Despite all of it, the Arcanine led well and the group managed to leave the Mist Valley, reaching the Sinklands 1. There weren't many obstacles this time; and in the Sinklands, it seemed almost different.

The fog didn't spread across everywhere evenly; it was clear that some places were thick with water vapor, while other routes seemed to be lighter. The miasma thickened and thinned, with no order at all. Was this what they called utter chaos?

The midst of it all, it was clear that a Lotad was hurt. She hummed, her little beak shivering in the wetness. She used to love all this, really, but something has changed. Something has arrived to create problems in her territory; and there was no choice but to leave to find somewhere new to settle. It wasn't fair; but what could they do? Her little body struggled to scuttle forwards, but it seemed battered.

"Please don't hit me," she managed to blurt out upon seeing Cerby and her gang, quickly bending down, and showing her rain dish in sign of surrender.

When the ground grew squishy underfoot and the mist irregular, Cerb figured they had passed into a new zone of treachery. "Make sure you watch for puddles," she reminded the Arcanine, nudging Epona in the side with her knee. The giant dog whuffed and blew out a stream of embers, casting a flickering light across their path. Cerb contemplated taking Sparky and plopping him on the dog's nose for a sort of Rudolph-effect-beacon, but figured neither Pikachu nor Arcanine would appreciate it much.

Off on the side, Hercules sniffed at the soil in his plant pot and growled at Delphi. Cerb saw the black tail before she saw white fur, but she heard the watery loogie being spat up into the air to rain down on the plant. At least Delphi was helping to take care of the tree this time instead of complaining about it. The Nidoking nosed his plant over to make sure the soil was equally wet before continuing to squelch along next to the Arcanine.

The plopping sound from the rear, Cerb knew, was frozen mist fragments hitting the ground as Wendigo ghosted along. This was the best way to tell that he was actually still there, aside from the residual cold winds that blew from him.

And then there was a Lotad. The whole gang came to a halt as Cerb leaned around Epona's neck to try and see this small thing that was in front of them, cowering and shivering. "What is it, Delphi?"

Um. A leafy green thing, the Absol announced, tilting her head sideways at the talking lilypad. Xena came padding up and sniffed disinterestedly at the Lotad before looking up at her trainer, waiting for their cue. Cerb was busy digging in her pocket at the moment for her Pokedex to check and see what this thinger was.

"Issss Lotad. Well, we ain't here to hold stuff up, so let's go," the teen determined after a moment, shoving the Pokedex back in her pocket and giving Epona a little nudge in the sides. The dog whined and tilted her head down to the shivering green thing, flattening her ears. Cerb squinted at its less-than-healthy state and frowned.

"Alright Epona, I see the problem," digging in her pack, the teen retrieved an Oran berry and set it down in front of the Lotad. "I can't really do much more, my cleric's in the PC and I'm kinda in a hurry. Wendigo, you stay over there," she added to the Glalie as Epona straightened back up and growled at the ice ball. Wendigo scowled and drifted around as the Arcanine got moving again. The rest of them drifted around the Lotad and resumed their previous positions, eager to get out of the muck and fog.

The Lotad was, despite the fact that you'd just approached with a party full of large, dangerous creatures, pleasantly surprised at the kindness of a human that had just appeared out of the mist and fog all of a sudden. The human had even gone so far as to leave a berry in front of it, and what Pokémon didn't like berries? Berries were freaking tasty, and this particular little Lotad stared at the berry for a few moments, wondering just why the human had given it a berry.

Then, all of a sudden, went to town on the thing, licky omnomnom-style. It was hungry! Hungry was good! Almost being run over by a big scary fire-y Arcanine was a great way to build up an appetite, and satiating said appetite tended to be a little bit of a chore out here. After all, what's there to eat? Mud? Water? Fog? Not tasty. I don't think anyone would want to be subjected to that kind of hellish torture, and indeed, helping a little creature get away from that kind of nature-inflicted mistreatment. But if you know what the heck they eat out here, by all means, tell me.

Either way, the Lotad was happy and trundled off, a half-eaten berry now playing inside its raindish. You had indeed made the little creature happy and the universe had decided to reward you for the kindness of doing the opposite of not eating the Lotad: feeing it. The universe presents you with one purple abstract of how famous you apparently are: one :fp for your trouble.

And not only that, but the soggy trek through all this mud and crap seemed to have paid off! All of a sudden, the mist and fog seemed to thin out rather sharply. Was there... fresh air nearby? Where there was nothing floating in the air to obscure vision? Man, that would've been great after all this time spent inside the fog. And, a couple steps later, there you were: no more fog! Just ore soggy crap to get stuck on your feet. Hey, at least it wasn't more mist.

And lo, after much trekking they were out of the fog. Cerb sighed in relief when she actually felt sunlight hitting her face, and Epona panted gleefully as she trotted across the mucky grass. On the flip side of the coin, Wendigo hissed like a vampire and tried to duck back into the fog before Cerb caught him in his Pokeball's beam. The Glalie had obliged them enough so far, and things would move just a little bit faster without him.

Granted, there was still Hercules to contend with. But he still had the plant, and the teen reckoned she would rather go play cards with Neeruey than try to take that pot from him at the moment. The Nidoking had a reputation to uphold in Xena's eyes, even if the Granbull wasn't paying him too much attention at the moment. Xena roamed in a bit of a zigzag up ahead next to Delphi, her nose sniffing for stray scents other than wet grass. Cerb supposed as long as nothing jumping out at the scouting hairballs, things would be all good.

"Gonna be a relief to reach Mayriver," she muttered, looking up over the expanse of soggy grass towards the coast. The city hovered in the distance like a dream, and the promise of some decent food. Cerb wasn't real big on the stuff they served at the OME base. "We can take a nice rest... and plot," the teen mused, reaching up to pet Sparky when the rat chittered warily. "I hear there's some critters in the woods that need kickin'."

"Pikaaaa," the Pikachu grumbled, twitching his tail. 'Critters' meant anything from angry Pokemon to giant monsters, and the less Sparky saw of those the better.

The sunshine was only a slight relief. Although the bad visibility has ended, the moisture in the air was still thick and made your skin sticky. The grass squished under your feet, and the water sometimes even came up to your ankles -- it definitely wasn't an easy terrain to cross. And out of the grass, a leafy Pokemon came swooping out, making rounds in the air like he was a rollercoaster without a track. A large silly grin covered his face; and in the sun, he laughed.

"I'm finally out of that goddamn foggy place."

The Carnivine was glad. He hated being lost and now that he was out, the sun gave him energy. He danced like he never danced before; but he heard the squishing noises, and he turned his head suspiciously: a trainer. He wondered what she would want; but continued to ignore her. Trainers normally ignored him and didn't take interest -- which was good because he was wild and intended to stay wild and alive. This trainer was accompanied by a whole gang of monsters; and he didn't want to die.

So he did what a person who walks passed someone threatening did: he whistled and pretended he didn't notice.

As they trotted along under the sun, Cerb reached up to place Sparky on Epona's head momentarily so she could take off her jacket and tie it around her waist. She didn't mind the humidity so much as long as it was warm, and her t-shirt was sufficiently light enough that she didn't feel too hot. Even when riding a fiery furball and having another small furry thing riding on her shoulder. The Pikachu chittered as Cerb put him back in his proper place, since she didn't think Epona would appreciate having a passenger on her head for too long. "There must be a more convienent way to do this."

"Pikaaaa," Sparky chattered, and reached up with his paws to tug on her hair. Cerb gently swatted him away, making a face.

"Nooo, you can't ride on my head, we'd look like some sort of circus-sideshow,"

Which is effectively what we are, Delphi pointed out wryly from up ahead. Cerb made a face as Epona barked, although Hercules didn't chime in. He was too busy crooning over his next almost-ripened crop, although he did jerk up to attention when Delphi crowed out TENTACLE MONSTAAAAAAAH!

Cerb squeaked and ducked down on Epona's neck as the Arcanine barked twice. "Holyshit where,"

Riiiiight there. Delphi pointed a paw at the Carnivine as it skipped past whistling and flapping its leaves. Xena stared at it with a sort of dumbfounded expression, the beginnings of a curious growl rising in her throat. Hercules just curled up tighter around his berry pot.

Cerb peeked up over Epona's ears. "Delphi, that's just a Carnivine."

But it has tentacles.

Cerb had to concede on that matter. "But it looks like it's just leaving."

Still, I wouldn't wanna face a pair of those bastards in some remote swamp, Delphi observed offhandedly, getting to her paws and trying to shake some grime off. Aw man, let's hurry. I think I've got mud on my butt.

Meanwhile, Cerb was hearing Twilight Zone music playing. "I think Delphi just broke the universe," she squeaked, going back to hiding behind Epona's ears. Sparky facepalmed and the Arcanine whined, going back into a trot to catch up with Delphi and Xena as their Nidoking gardener lumbered in the rear, casting suspicious glances at the retreating Carnivine.

When things are left alone, they tended not to eat you. And, for some reason, the universe considered this good karma. Why? Because, very simply, it could. There needed to be no other explanation other than what goes around comes around, and in this case... what was going to come around? It made no sense. You ignore a Carnivine trying not to be eaten, instead choosing to focus on mud-butts (which, I guess, are fairly valid things to be focusing on since nobody wants to sit in mud) and getting to your next destination.

Wait, what next destination?

Maybe, you dumbass, the city that's right in front of you?

Oh, THAT one. Herp derp.

As it turns out, good karma meant being able to get to where you wanted a little bit easier. Apparently, in the insanity of the entire universe, it had decided that for not being a total prick and roasting the Carnivine, it was going to let you get to the next town unmolested. Well, okay, not entirely. Your shoes and stuff had mud all over them, and they were good shoes! Now you had to clean all that mess up with you got to Mayriver.

But hey:

Reached: Mayriver City
