A continuation from Steamswap Jungle.

Shugo felt like he made one step forward and two steps back in those boglands. Never ending and rather muggy for his tastes. He prefered crisp climates with summer heat but a spring breeze. Call the young guy fickle. Shugo had even abandoned his jacket for the humidity; he found it better worn slung over his shoulder like a bar-hopping scoundrel. The trees scattered the air was less thick. Soon the muddy odor of the swamp faded in his wake as the trainer arrived in a large field of grass that he could not possibly navigate on his own. The blades were slightly taller than he was! He rolled his eyes and heaved a sigh from his chest. Ragnell, rather nonplused, swiped his claw to remove a patch of it ahead of him and moved forward.

"I knew you were good for more than just Medicham catchin'," said Shugo with a smirk. Ragnell replied with a firm 'hmph' and continued to clear a pathway for the pair. The man had already drawn his PokeNav up on his cellphone and searched for a map of the area. Satellites pinned him down on the southend of the grasslands. He was no longer in Steamswap but now in Lorenzian territory near the city to the famous and elusive Pokemon League Championships. As giddy as he was to check out the city, he couldn't be strayed any longer. They had a mission to complete. Shugo zoomed in on just the wildlands and allowed it to guide him north.

"What do you reckon runs around here, Ragnell?" Ragnell clipped a blade of grass down and held it firmly in his claw. Grass types. Shugo nodded and let his hands rest behind his head as they forged ahead. It was at this moment that the Weepinbell previously acknowledged leapt up and latched onto his arm with its mouth! It felt slimy and disgusting! There was no pain. It was just... gross. Ragnell turned and raised a claw to bash it down but Shugo backed him down with a hand.

"Ease up. Its not... biting me. What's with the Pokemon around here being so friendly?" He stared at the plant for a moment but kept walking. Scizor's claws continued to cleave them a path.

"You trying to get out of here or are you just this friendly to all the guys in Lorenzo?" Ragnell sighed.

"Not so good?" The Scizor shook his head.

"Fine, joke retracted."

Marching and snipping and more marching and more snipping. That was the normalcy of the Six Foot Grass, it wasn't as if anyone could see above it anyways, well maybe some people, but it wasn't normal. They were just abnormally tall. Snip-snip as the Weepinbell just hung off of Shugo's hand, which wasn't terrible. The Weepinbell's mouth was just slimy and gross, which wasn't as bad as being bitten by a Victreebel with the teeth and the ow. No, no, this was much better. It really could have been worse, I mean it could have been a Purugly, that was heavy and its teeth were really quite sharp as they were. Again not too bad.

Shugo, Ragnell and the Weepinbell trekked forward, hoping to get to the four foot grass soon and get rid of this Weepinbell. I'm sure that Shugo could feel the Weepinbell's tongue flail around a bit as it was attached to his hand and arm. It was like it was molesting him, but only because it was attached this way, otherwise it would have just hopped along beside. I'd suspect that the Weepinbell just wanted the ride, which was why he had attached himself to the human, it did make for much faster travel. So, I guess Shugo was now just a glorified transport system to the pokemon. Shugo has now gained a new title.

Anyways, all bad humour aside. There was more grass. Keep walking.

Shugo did not know what to say. His hand being molested by a lashing gooey tongue was weird enough. That said, he wished he could read the Weepinbell's thoughts. Ever since he was purged of the tainted Spiritomb so many years ago he gradually lost the ability to understand Pokespeak fluently and just learned to read their actions and behavioral tendencies. This time it was different. This Weepinbell had one heck of a pokerface. Shugo didn't know if this thing wanted to make love to his fit forearm or just want a ride out. Maybe even a friend. Lots of friendly pokemon were in these parts. If one was lookin' to make a few side catches, these woodland regions were a prime place to get started.

Ragnell was not so uneasy as he was before. Why fear a Weepinbell, honestly? This stoic ronin continued to clip and cut grass like he was a lawnkeeper. It was effortless and rather boring. He groaned with another large swipe that radiated dark energy. Much akin to a Nightslash. Shugo caught up to him and questioned his hostility.

"If you're bored I completely understand. But, you're my bladed arm guy." Shugo shruged and Ragnell nodded.

This would continue for as long as it took. Cutting, clipping, moving, and being molested. Anything to make progress and put them at the Malral District was a welcomed obstacle. Despite Ragnell's boredom and Shugo's unclean feeling, the trio made fine progress. In the end, isn't progress the most important thing? After all, he wanted to fly. Onzi surely felt the exact same way.

A lot of walking, clipping and molesting later, Shugo reached more grass. Oh, that was shocker. He was already standing a sea of six foot grass, that wasn't too bad now was it? Oh well, at least you were getting somewhere, which wasn't too bad, unless you count the molestation as a downfall. At least it wasn't attacking you? That is really all I can say. It could really just be chomping off your hand or even getting ready to explode. Thank god, it wasn't going to explode, but it was just so pokerfaced that you had to think that, or at least know that. Just a little bit.

Anyways, a little while after with more walking and snipping Shugo reached Four Foot Tall Grass 2. Yay, you could see again. Also, with that the molesting Weepinbell dropped off from your arm. As it hopped off on its merry way Shugo could feel something in his hand now that it was free. The Weepinbell had left a Sticky Barb in Shugo's hand. At least it wasn't a freeloading, molesting Weepinbell, so more yay.

The trainer held a spiny barb in his fingers. He was quite unfamiliar with it, but placed it carefully in his sidebag once the Weepinbell made its way through the grass. White-haired lad did not pay it much mind. Perhaps it did just need a ride. Though Shugo could now see over the scape of the grass, there was still a long way to go across the wildlands. Ragnell had been cutting for who knows how long and seemed disheartened at the sight of a larger field with a huge quantity of grass to be cleaved. Sweat ran down his shimmering red armor and Shugo felt sympathy for him. The trainer pat his loyal soldier on the shoulder much to Ragnell's confusion.

"You did me right, Ragnell. Take a breather and have a snack, yeah?" A box of chocolates was removed from his sidebag. The very same that Alice had offered to the temporary officer as a gift for his aid. Ragnell, albeit very puzzled, took one of the tasty treats and ate. Sweets never were his forte, but this one was unique. After a long period of cutting nothing tasted better than praise and an earned snack. Ragnell nodded firmly and offered half of a bow to Shugo before the latter withdrew his Scizor to the pokeball. Shugo was fit to travel alone for a bit.

Those chocolates had indeed come in handy. They still had a long way to go however. Only a split second glance was given to the Pokenav. Youthful Shugo did not need to be reminded of the length of their journey. It was an annoying, persistant requirement. Very little progress had been made and with this generation of instant gratification, Shugo became easily frustrated. With his mind focused on the quest in Halcyon, he pushed through the unkempt grass.

One chocolate down, Ragnell gains one happiness. Five chocolates left.

Ah, the sea of green. Nothing is quite as peaceful as watching waves of grass move in the wind, swishing together with every movement... but walking through grass that's four feet tall can be a bother at times. Its height allows it to become easily tangled in any loose item. It also blocks anything taller than said four feet from seeing the ground. Now that might not be a bad thing, However, there are multiple things that trainers, and pokemon, could trip or step on. Roots like to grow out of the ground, blades of grass can get tied up, or pokemon could even decide to play pranks on passer-bys.

A shuffle of grass up ahead alerted Shugo to something coming his way. It was still hidden by grass, so whatever it was, it was shorter than four feet. More shuffling was seen as whatever was moving darted back and forth, still unseen. A couple of Ledyba were thrown into a panic as they took to the sky, alerted to this unknown presence,

And then, the thing jumped, no doubt trying to catch one of the Ledyba as a snack. The tan fur and long body that appeared was that of a Linoone. It's beady blue eyes narrowed at the bug pokemon as they tried to escape. Unable to catch its prey on the first jump, the Linoone disappeared back below the grass, before emerging once again in an attempt at getting a little closer to the bugs.

Just seems to be an everyday occurrence, the hunters chasing the hunted in a vicious circle of life and death. Nothing too odd or out of place.

Shugo could not help his startled jump when the Linoone leapt from the grass with jaws open. Ledyba weaved in the air and barely dodged the crunch of their foe's teeth. Shugo took an instinctive jump backwards and braced his fists and arms in front of his body. There was no need for the protecting at this very moment. Linoone was not keen on battling a human or so it seemed. But, who knew that ferrets feasted on bugs of that kind? Maybe the struggle had some alternate motive. White haired trainer weighed the situation before he acted.

Time was of the essence.

There was no reason to waste time on an act of nature. Creatures hunted other creatures all the time. Shugo needed to get to Halcyon as quickly as possible and random encounters would not be time efficient. Shugo pretended not to see the encounter and left the Ledyba's fate up to their own actions. There was quite a lengthy journey ahead, as stated many times in many previous "journal entries". Shugo pushed on through the grass and used the scape of the grass and his Pokenav's map function. He was off once more.

A sea of a grass was before Shugo as he marched on through, ignore the pokemon that he appeared before him. Well, the Ledyba and the Linoone went back about their ritual of sorts as you passed by, not really looking up to see who had shifted the grasses it passed. It seemed like such a normal occurrence to them, plus they would have known if you were hostile by the rustles. He just marched on, knowing full well that he was going in the right direction towards the Forest of Fury. He could even see the tree tops from where he was in the grassy parts of the Wildlands. That wasn't something abnormal. Since the grassland was flat, there was only the sea of grass between the sea of trees and Shugo.

Four Foot Tall Grass, nothing but that for a good little while.

Turning to the left, Shugo could Buneary frolicking about in the grass as well as Glameow as bug pokemon took to the sky trying not to be eaten today. It was just pokemon every where he went, though they weren't as hostile as the Beautifly in the Jungle. That would have been a little scary otherwise. I don't think that anyone would have liked to be molested by a horny horde of Beautifly, no matter how pretty they were. This was especially so when they only had one objective in mind. But anyways, Shugo didn't have to deal with that again. No, he just had to suffer with no pokemon encounter and grass.

Halcyon remained at the front of Shugo's mind. Other things wanted to drift in: previous drama had with unforeseen foes, the hopes of finding information on his friend and non-admitted rival Finn, a Frontier Brain, and the training of the ragtag group of individuals in his team. Harken, his newest recruit, proved to be the most difficult to handle. With the ability to dive into his trainer's mind and communicate with him, it became more than just battle training. It also required the coaxing of the individual to Shugo's cause. A cause that Shugo was struggling to find for himself. The only thing that made sense was keep moving to Halcyon and obtain more information. That would offer him the best chance to find a new path ahead. Sure, grass and fields got boring. He was a backwoods' boy anyhow, so the luster that fields and lush farmland had to offer could get stale rapidly. Part of the trainer's credo was to travel and better one's self. Familiar territory just was not very exciting.

Still, he had made tons of ground over the past several days. Halcyon was practically in his sights. Despite flocks of wild adversaries and all the trouble that his Medicham created, progress was being made. Shugo sighed, almost wishing for something to break the monotony. An exciting event that would thrust itself into Shugo's life and make the trip not seem so long.

Though it'd be smart to enjoy the calm of the sea of grass. The Forest of Fury lurked nearby. All sorts of danger and peril awaited inside.

The Forest of Fury did indeed lurk nearby. 4-foot grass wasn't the easiest terrain to get through, but it didn't put up much resistance. A decent stint of walking and you found yourself at the edge of the forest, peering between the dark, shaded trunks to find a path further north.

Once inside the forest, you were soon shut off from the grasslands outside. What little light actually reached the forest floor had to fight its way through several layers of foliage. There was very little grass in this part of the forest - quite aside from the lack of light, the roots of the trees choked out anything that tried to get a hold. It was just endless rows of trees, with occasional gullys and rises to prevent you seeing further than a hundred feet or so in any direction. Man, you could really get lost in here if you weren't too careful...

Finally, a serious stumbling block appeared. Ahead of you, the tangled floor of roots suddenly stopped, a sheer bank of earth rising a dozen or so feet above you. Roots from the trees on top laced the wall, sticking out here and there to make it look like someone had taken an entire section of ground and ripped it out. You couldn't just reach the top from where you stood, and the bank seemed to continue on in both directions for a very long way - whether you climbed it or tried to go around, this would take some time.
