ONE! None of that point crap. Everyone loves comics >.> Oh, and any way you can resize? I don't have wide screen or anything...the piccy is twice the size of my screen. XD

Now for this questing business. Already mentioned to you that Im going to be slow and you said you were ok with that. So TAG, youre Mavlined.

So. A flying Gyarados. Thats not something you see everyday. A lady with a couple of pokemon RIDING the flying Gyarados seemed downright normal by comparison. The beast dived from the sky, dipping low to the ground to allow two of its passengers to disembark. It struck to the silken star bejeweled sky while the two below got their first taste of the soft mushy soil beneath their feet.

Evile and Sever discovered their first hindrance right away.

As good as its name implied, this area was a tangle of roots. Not all were the giant knotty kind you might expect of a swamp. Those were just a distraction. Scraggily grasses, flooded for the wet season threaded webs of fine but tough roots just under the muck. Claws and feet quickly caught and tripped up and only Sever could fly above the mess to avoid the annoyance altogether.

A mangled tree or two dotted the night veiled land. The sounds of frogs and crickets and other small things plopping and splashing noisily into the water was the steady rhythm of the place. The night was otherwise still and that stagnant odor of the swamp permeated the damp air.

What did the duo hope to find here? Where they just out for a playful romp or to stir up trouble? Where was their trainer? Did she still snake through the sky above, keeping watch like their guardian angel? Whatever they were here for (yeah I know its an HM but the comic doesnt say it) the marsh had a mind of its own.

The pair worked through their way steadily through the root entangled swamp, not seeing a single pokemon anywhere. Not seeing anything really, until a something saw them and erupted from the mucky foul water like the monster from the black lagoon. Mud and dead grass slid off its broad flat head as it rose up out of the water logged ground on a tri-pod of trembling tendrils. Tentacles writhed and lashed in the air, snapping in their faces. The huge head split wide open, needle teeth stinking of rot and a dry hiss rattling from its massive maw.

A carnivine, yellow eyed and hungry reached with a vine for fourth meal

Fourth meal would have to wait, it seemed. The carnivine had bit off more than it could chew. In the dark skies above, Jemelie watched from her air bound Gyarados as her scyther launched itself into a daring rescue of its weavile pal. With a dash and slash the plant shrieked and let go of its prey.

Very much upset that a giant bug had just knocked him on his mossy ass, the carnivine sank back into the mud to sulk, leaving the two friends to carry on alone.

The root bound ground slowly gave way to a flood plain. A thin blanket of fog drifted above the land. The air was still and path unclear. Every few steps dared the pair to fall neck deep in one of the many concealed sinkholes of the Ignas Fatties. Off in the dark, dank distance, pale lights danced and fizzled out over the misty surface of the glassy water.

The traps would be numerous and the search arduous. Might as well get started before another Carnivine came after you...In fact, the duo might need a hand from their air born human buddy.

Jemilie had kept her eye over Solomons side, making sure the two Pokemon she sent below didnt try to run off. Sever mostly, shaking off the daze of the PokeRUS infection that had previously made the bug a ravaging, bloodthirsty adversary. He may not have recalled the events as clearly, or how he came into the possession of a human all of a sudden, but hed remained calm and obedient for the most part. She wouldnt put it past him to make an attempt at escape when given the chance, however. Evile, on the other hand, seemed to have accepted her, although the road of recovery from sudden disownment by a human hed trusted was a long and difficult path to tread. As every bit as difficult to manage as the Scyther, training made solely to fuel his bloodlust, it was difficult to find a suitable place to sate their maniacal cravings. In the swamplands, where every Pokemon reflected the same madness they held, she figured it was the perfect place to finally release their leashes and let them have free reign on their new playground. But it wasnt the sole purpose of their journey here. Aside from her destination to Deepwood, she had looked up on the online services of the Poketech she rarely used, coming across an interesting section of information that told of the devices that made Pokemon stronger.

The Holy Mechanisms- or HMs. Almost exactly like the Hidden Machines in her home world, but rather than convenient distributable items, they were apparently ancient relics to be sought with only the help of poems consisting of four obscure lines to hint of their whereabouts. It took a hefty amount of research and consulting the regions map and major locations to find a lead on the items, the majority of her results deductive guesswork, but the closest answers she could get. One, she had hoped, would be located around these parts.

In the wettest marsh, in a pool of steam
The ghost of mist and fog is seen
Attacks will go right through, or miss
But all it wants is just

Whatever was provided at that last part had been removed, but the rest had given her enough to seek out this one particular spot- the Ignis Fatties, infamous for the illusions the swamp gasses around the marshes created. If one should look for such a spectre, she surmised this would be the first best location. She'd sent Sever and Evile to survey the ground as a preliminary measure, seeing as the duo reacted to every instance of movement. But perhaps hunting for an illusion might be beyond their more realistic aspirations. Lets go down, Solomon, she ordered, and the Gyarados descended closer, traveling alongside the Scyther and Weavile. Although the emerald insect had no qualms about the lessening foothold of the marsh, being able to fly and all, the Weavile was a little less tolerant to sloshing around the soft earth and struggling to leap from one spot to the other. Eventually, he solved the problem by simply freezing a path forward, breath as cold as the arctic sweeping in the form of the dark Pokemons Icy wind attack. She directed all three Pokemon to the largest steaming pool of water in the area, where they would begin their search.

Alert me to anything unusual you happen to see, she advised faintly. She couldnt bring herself to tell them that what they sought was neither Pokemon or human. A ghost? Oh, they existed, and not just the Pokemon variety. And most certainly not her favorite type. But, for greatness, one must be willing to go where no one else dared.

EDIT:

...FOR ANOTHER DAY.

Huh. Acts of kindness apparently helped make journeys shorter. Using the worn trek rather than climb the whole way up (only insanity could explain why anyone out take that option) they were able to reach the summit, back to the warmer lands where the swamp and muck and the temperamental creatures dwelt. None like the Jynx, whom had been grateful for Jemilies consideration, but the bloodthirsty beast who would sooner rip throats should their sickle bladed appendages be anywhere near them, injured or not.

Her Pokemon moved on far ahead, strangely more eager to get to their destination than she was. The Absol took perch on a border, sweeping her blood red gaze over the seemingly deserted expanse, looking with distaste at the marshy terrain theyd be forced to cross. Xan, the weirdo, seemed to meander nearby, waiting for her. Throughout the entire trip she hadnt seen the Zangoose lose step with her. Even when it seemed she pulled farther away for the sole reason of getting away from him, hed use those quick Zangoose reflexes to keep up- a trait hed typically reserve solely for battle, the lazy ass he was. Hwajeh preferred to stay with her, unwilling to leave the girl alone while the two Pokemon seemed oblivious to the world, and they slowed for Arcana, who had to switch her travel method from sliding through the snow and ice to waddling along the rooty terrain. Apparently an awkward task for the penguin creature, but she didnt seem to be hassled, although the girl and dragons strides were shortened to accommodate for her slower gait.

Wondered if theyd finally get through here.

You and your party seemed to be going along fairly well and were making great time, even if your penguin was slowing you guys down slightly. Over the roots you went, and nothing seemed to bother you, mainly because there wasn't much out here. That is until you continued the long tedious trek through the marsh, you could hear a loud screech noise. Something didn't seem to sit right, but you weren't able to spot the source of it yet. Suddenly something swooped by from behind, going completely over your party and striking the ground not too far away from your Absol. However Absol was not the target of this attack, something else was. The closer you got to the spot though, a foul stench entered you and all your pokemon's nostrils. It was absolutely revolting. Almost to the point of puking, but you weren't quite there yet.

You looked down to see the victim of this bird's attack and found none other than the stinkiest of them all. A Muk staring you in the face, and it wasn't to happy to be woken up after being hit, and seeing a human standing not too far away with Pokemon in her possession. "You foul creature! How dare you... you... You SCOUNDREL!" the angry Muk yelled waving a grimy fist at you and your pokemon. "You've got some nerve hitting me when I've caused you no harm!"

However little did you and this Muk know that the bird was coming around for a second strike. Better watch out! You turned to identify the bird, and caught a glimpse of it.... A PIDGEOT! It was heading straight for the Muk. Would you get involved to protect this poor poison type, and gain his trust back? Or let nature take it's course?

A shadow so large and so fast dived over them, barely a chance to react before it was up and off, a shadow in the shadowy sky. It touched down again, causing an annoyed rumble her way, with all the stench of a thousand dead cats reeking the air as the sound grew louder, warning of the advent of a resident of the plans, apparently irritable about being jolted from its slumber. Now that wasn't something she saw very often- a Muk, usually residing in chemical plants and all those toxic, polluted lands. She supposed she shouldn't be surprised finding one here, seeing the swamp provide the perfect enviornment for the creature to thrive. But now she's got a situation with keeping it from attacking her, as it waved a sludge-covered fist at her.

"Dammit," she breathed, Hwajeh quick to move over her, wings spread and shielding from any attacks. Before Jemilie could give an order, not exactly caring how or why it was attacking her- assuming it was simply the Pokemons nature out here to attack anything that moves- the shaodw in the sky returned, seemingly prepared for another strike. The weak light revealed the true form of the avian- the brownish plumage, the trailing crest, the sharp hunter's eyes...

Jemilie signaled the two Pokemon up ahead, already aware of the situation and waiting tensely from behind the Muk, ready to attack on command. "Echidna, Xan, heads up!" She directed their attention to the approaching object. Without a second more to hesitate, the Absol was off, a dark blur as she launched herself off her perch with incredible speed, her form giving off another of those dark auras. Xan's claws curled up within the special device Jemilie had given him, feeling the rush of power crackle around his fist, golden sparks dancing down his fur. Crouching, he waited for the bird's decent, assuming Echidna's attack won't down it first. Hwajeh and Arcana, in the meanwhile, held up their guards, ready to retaliate should the Muk prove hostile.

Growling, the awful-stench creature waved an arm angrily at the iron-clad penguin. Eyes narrowed, and it seemed the smell became stronger, for sure, as the empoleon opened her beak, disgusted by the muk. Suddenly, the muk slammed his arm across the floor and stinky bits of his arm flew off, splattering the pristine fur-like feathers of the water starter. Pure rage or just simple disgust, as the empoleon executed her attack, opening her beak, allowing a spire of water rush into the muk, washing away a good part of the more oily portions.

Overall, their battle was not as much epic as a gentle(wo)man's fight. A slap on the face with a glove, if you will. Fortunately, as epic things went, it was the low intensity of the battle that made the two seem at odds with each other. Neither really had the upper hand, nor did any really have a level advantage. It would take a while to claim victory, but at least empoleon had speed on her side.

In the mean time, the absol seemed ready, fur bristling. Eyes locked on the target. Pigeot summoned the will to attack, diving in, but before she could see what was going on, she felt the strong paw crush her cheek, chipping her beak. Screeching loudly, it was clear the bird had not gone down. Not even the random number gods were kind in terms of a critical hit. Fortunately, it did give the zangoose a moment, claw bright with electricity.

Following up, the white and red streaked pokemon slammed a second fist into the bird, lightning surging from his arm into the bird. For a moment, she felt stunned, but as a shield appeared, the zangoose struggled to dodge, but could not. Bright sparks of electricity crackled off of the giant bird, wing, capable of generate hurricane force winds, thrashed the zangoose.

Weakened, he was thrown, likely bracing himself with a claw into the ground, if not, falling on his back.

The pidgeot looked down proudly, but she seemed winded. It was likely that the bird would be felled soon, if not fleeing from the battle first.

Xan grunted, feeling the brunt of the Pidgeot's attack but refusing to show any reaction to the attack, although the manner that the bird perfectly mimicked his attack did catch him off guard. But better him than Echidna, right? He briefly glanced her way, making sure she was unmarred from the Pdigeot's passing. The dark Pokemon was already preparing her next move, fur bristling with the dark power surrounding her form, gathering at the length of the sickle blade atop her head. Onyx claws dug beneath her, muscles tensing within her smooth pelt, another attempt to reach the airborne creature underway. Even if her leap would fall short, she had that energy ready to release, to cover the distance that insolent hawk tried to widen.

Xan quickly saw the same thing she had, that the Pidgeot had realized it bit more than it could chew and prepared for a hasty getaway. 'Heh, fat chance' he thought, lowering on all fours and sprinting off in hot pursuit, ready to drag the damn thing out of the air if he had to. You didn't mess with them and expect to get off scott free.

Meanwhile, the Muk had decided to retaliate, much to Arcana's displeasure. Her coat...her new pristine, flawless plumage was soaked and muddled, the stench of the poison creature's remnants wafting to her nares tauntingly as they slid down her sides. Silent anger was clear in her glare, but her movements remained calm, controlled. A sweet of a steel-rimmed fin, and water began to build up around her. A feat of aquamancy, taking the vast moisture of the flooded ground to fuel the onslaught she was about to bring down on this fool creature. Justified as it might to attack, for it was rudely disturbed from its slumber, she was also within her rights to defend herself by any means necessary. Even when the tide rising imposingly behind her was the result of a deep loathing she now held for the swampy creature, and nothing would delight her more than its swift defeat.

Battle Engaged! Xan rushed forward, gripping the claws of their enemy. As the pidgeot fought fiercely, she didn't attack. She couldn't. Echidna got powered up in the meantime. By the time she began her actual attack, her white fur was gone from sight and she only appeared with black aura all about her. Night time, it seemed, invaded the day as the sharp, fear-inducing blade. Thrown at the pidgeot, the blade hit critically into the big bird's wing.

Squawking loudly, the bird fell back, downed. With no further attack, it was clear the two had put down the creature. Triumphantly, the two stood, feeling proud, if not proud, at least they felt stronger and wiser. Another battle won, another strategy to add to the list. However, the war had not been won: off in the distance, a large penguin and her foe were still locked in battle.

A massive wave, saturated with the salts of the earth, rose and fell upon the muk. Had it only been water, it would have been less painful, but the shards of salt began to stick him and, like rocks, rub abrasively against his tender sludge. When the water subsided, no enemy sat in its wake. The war had been won, after all. Still, muck on her feathers, the large bird was probably not going to be very happy, or smell very good for the rest of their trip.

This time it went well, the bird falling from Echidna's and Xan's combined efforts before further damage could be done. They stood for a moment over their enemy to catch their breath. Or rather, waiting for Xan to. Along with the strain of his injuries, he did feel slightly better triumphing over the battle. Whether that was just from the assurance of Echidna's safety or some sadistic pleasure he derived was uncertain, but he was liking it.

"We kinda make a good team, don't we?" he commented lightly, flashing his most charming Zangoose smile.

What he got for his troubles was a dismissive "Humph," and a nice view of her retreating rear. In most scenarios this would be an acceptable response, but the feline's ears flattened back at the rejection, continuing to silently follow the Absol at a fair distance.

"Alright, let's keep moving." The girl looked back at the Empoleon, who flicked her bladed fins over the mess in her coat, where the pristine white was stained with the Muk's gunk. Reassuringly, she patted the massive bird's fin and lead her forwards. "It'll come out, don't worry about it too much. Do me a favor and bear it for now." Easier said than done, as the stain stunk as well with the reched odor. But she had to give Arcana credit- as meticulous as she was with appearances, she kept a straight face (although that could largely be due to bird's not having as expressive faces as other creatures) and and acknowledged Jemilie's offer to move on. Swamps would have water, after all, and she clearly recalled fresh puddles lying further up south that were not saturated with the gunk of the earth. And if that wasn't good enough, Deepwood was hopefully not too far off.

Quest for Fog Clear Resuming *Hijacking*

You knew the Ignis Fatties the moment you stepped into the waterlogged stretch of land. It wasnt the smattering of glassy pools that gave it away though, it was the soft flash of distant light appearing and then vanishing into the soft layer of fog that crept across the ground. These little lights were a curious sight, but were also what the area was famous for. Shimmering in the distance, they were hypnotizing and beckoned to you to follow them into the mists.

Taking a step forward, you felt your feet sink abruptly and cold water soaked your pants up to the knees. The trance was broken by the surprise and you looked down to find that you had blindly stepped into one of the many pools. Had you meant to walk forward? You werent sure, but you didnt think so.

A light twinkled again, this time closer and again you felt the hypnotizing pull, but were able to resist it. The places magic had been found out and now you were wary of it. Those little lights could easily lead you to your death. But is that what they were for? What were they anyway?

The same little light faded into the white fog rising off the waters surfaces. Another reappeared about one hundred feet to your right. The area leading to it was difficult to discern, thanks to the water logged ground and creeping fog. What would you do? This place would certainly be difficult to navigate.

A moment of random inspiration

Jemilie looked down, finding herself immersed knee-deep in the dark pool of water, coming up around her as suddenly as the obscuring mist and fog. Well aware of her present location, for she came here for the express purpose of finding that one sacred item she supposed would be hidden with the mystical presence of this particular stretch of land, but it didnt seem as treacherous as the first time shed arrived. Then again, she had been within the safety of Solomons flying coils, and not sloshing down through the waterlogged ground and wandering blindly into pools of steaming water which, contrary to the vast humidity in the area, was not in the least bit warm. Whats worse, she apparently lost track of her Pokemon.

Xan! Hwajeh! Echidna? Arcana? She listened to her voice echo into silence, no response to be returned from any of the four beasts. Had they wandered too far out of range, or was she cut off from the outside world by the ethereal wall of mist, containing her into a realm of her own where no one would find her? Whichever the case, she was apparently going solo on this.

No biggy. She was a big girl. She could look after herself well enough without lumbering dragons or sly cats to shadow her every step. But after finding herself enthralled by some inexplicable force just moments before, she couldnt hold as much confidence she shouldve had. It wasnt the first time, after all, to be in this particular situation, toyed around with something she couldnt sense, with only her imagination to guide her back to the safety of mediocre normalcy. Stubbornness and wariness contended with the next course of action, watching the fading lights flicker and call for her to follow, the path ahead shrouded with no visible ground to reassure her that she wouldnt sink farther into the depths than she was now. A lesson learned from the previous encounter that she shouldnt follow recklessly, with the swamps hidden pitfalls and dreaded quicksand that could be peppered in every direction she wandered. A moment of hesitant contemplation, looking around for some kind of item she could use as a safety measure, the best she could come up was a long piece of waterlogged driftwood, dark mud and gunk layered on every inch of its surface and dripping blobs of sludge as she held it out.

Better than nothing- she grasped with all the reliance of a blind person to his cane and swept it forward, navigating the murk towards the beckoning glimmer. Hopefully it wasnt a cliff she was making her way towards.

So you had conjured a muddy half rotted root to prod the mushy ground with. Ok. Theres plenty of those around so why not. The little light just ahead flickered and faded away and your makeshift cane sank into the water about a foot and stopped. One step down, then two, three, forty, and that was one hidden pond safely navigated around, but where to next? And where was that light?

Oh, there it is reappearing about fifty feet away, this time to the left. You repeated the previous procedure and again knocked out another deadly trap. The light did much the same thing it did the first time. It faded away and reappeared somewhere else. Well, naturally you followed and cleared yet another pond. You did this same routine so many times that your legs ached from having to constantly yank your feet free from the mud and tread water toward the light.

And then something totally predictable happened. Your trusty stick snapped clean in half. The poor root was too rotted to keep up this poking and prodding abuse any longer, and this time, there was no sticks or roots or anything else to be of any use to you. Navigating the Ignis Fatties would now be entirely guess work, or so it seemed.

The damnable little light flickered teasingly, right in front of your face. Shimmering like gold dust in the air, and then it flitted away and vanished, reappearing far ahead of you. You were sure to land in one of those sink holes now. Stupid little light. Continue following it?

Stupid piece of shit goddammit- she angrily hurled her remaining half of wood straight in the direction of the light, predictably with little effect. It simply disappeared as the object flew past and splashed in the distance, and suddenly materialized an inch in front of her nose, too fast to get a good look of what she was staring at but long enough to register that this thing was toying with her; about as manipulative and infuriating as the pixies shed read out of the story books. Shed followed, wandered through the scum, squelching a number of unknown substances between her toes as she struggled to pull her legs up each time she wanted to go forward- and subsequently having to repeat the process of clearing the swamp a good number of times every time the damn thing changed directions-, ruining one of the few good clothes she had with her and was now most likely hopelessly lost. If only it was as simple as turning back the way she came, but shadow and mist concealed every which way she might have treaded through, and no trees or roots or objects of any sort to help navigate her way back or find the hidden sinkholes she knew were hiding beneath the waters.

She made one more futile attempt at calling for her mons, filling the lake air with her desperate calls until she got tired of the sound of her frustrated shouting and turned on the little flickering bastard that lead her into this mess. What are you? Where the hell are you taking me? A bit thoughtlessly she splashed forward, all too belligerent to check her steps. It wouldnt matter much at this point either way- she either stood in one spot forever or she risked herself drowning trying to finding dry land. And the only thing she could rely on was the little firefly teasing her into its web.

It wasnt long that inevitable finally happened. You took a step, and despite your caution, found no purchase and plummeted into one of the hidden pools. The now irritating little will-o-wisp danced around above your head as you thrashed and splashed in the mud. Kicking over to the apparent edge of the pool, you clawed at the slick mud for a handhold. Something peculiar happened then. The little light vanished into the waters behind you and through your pawing efforts at the muddy ground, you felt the earth tremble. A deep muffled bang resonated from somewhere fall below.

This would be a good opportunity to stop cursing the stupid light and think the customary oh shit of the soon to be doomed. The water you were having a poor time of standing in, suddenly dropped out from under you. The sinkhole was draining at an alarming rate, dragging you swiftly away from the muddy edge and carrying you along in its swirling currents. Had you a sense of humor, you might compare yourself to dead goldfish at the moment of its final grand flushing. But, as the water was sucked away into the dark earth, your scrabbling hands took hold of a submerged root and held tight until the deadly undertow was drained into the ragged crack at the bottom of the pit.

You were left alone, cold, wet and covered in gray clay. The damnable will-o-wisp was no where to be seen. You were alive though, and finally you were able to stand and look around. There was nothing here. Hmmm.

Jemilie was clinging to the root for dear life, shivering from the dark slick that coated every square inch of her skin and the strange phenomenon that just transpired. Worse than potentially getting sucked into the earthactually getting sucked into the earth. By a random whirlpool. In the middle of a swamp. The waters, once so calm and still- and by that, safe- had suddenly began to shift in a tumultuous vortex, dragging her down into the depths with all the ravenous ferocity of a giant toilet. That wasnt exactly how she expected to see the end, and only by sheer luck had she managed to grab some hold to keep her adrift on this side of the world while everything flushed into nothingness.

The steady beat of soggy earth dripping, the only remainders of the waters shed struggled to cross before, and nothing else. Shed felt the strain on her body, but it didnt look as if the past hour had even happened. If it was one of those illusions Ignus Fatties were renown for, thendamn, did it get her pretty good. Please dont lose your head, girl, she chanted to herself mentally and slowly eased her way down, sliding through the mud the entire way. She could only imagine that at the moment her appearance resembled something only vaguely human- branches and leaves engrained to her skin in a thick layer of black slop. ...On the bright side, it would keep whatever man who happened to pass by out of her hair; she could always use some man-repellant. She steadied herself on the crooked earth until she was sure the violent tremor in her body subsided, and delicately inched towards the fissure. Every dropped drained into the dark crack, even that little lightning bug thingshe thought better of getting any closer lest something tried to pull her in and trundled the edge. Well, she was here in a spot she had absolutely no idea where- she might as well keep going until she could find her way out again, following the edge of the fissure to whatever pathway the exposed riverbed made.

You scooted closer to the crack in the earth. It wasnt large enough to have actually sucked you in, not without tearing you apart first. Somewhere far below in the dark, you heard the waters gurgle into oblivion.

Huh. Strange. Well now what?

You waited around a minute, but it was plain that the crack wouldnt offer you a way out of the mud hole, best try climbing back out if nothing was going to happen. You turned around, if only to look dismally at the edge of the sink hole. What a waste of time this had been. Following that stupid lightThis is probably what it did to everyone; try to drown them.

And then suddenly, you were overwhelmed with a terrible stabbing pain in your head. The pressure was intense as if your skull was being crushed in a vice and slowly squeezed to a pulp. It was enough to make a sane person scream or at least swear incoherently.

Somewhere, through the red haze behind your eyes, you registered a voice. Unearthly and resonate, a long mournful howl rose from the crack in the earth and called to you. It was a single monotone syllable, not a word, but somehow there was a sad plee behind it. As the sorrowful sound grew louder, so did the splitting pain in your skull.

[Youre in pain, yes, lots of it. But theres a sound coming from the crack in the ground. Wtf.]

She wasnt sure how long she stayed standing on the edge of the narrow abyss, still quite shaken from what had just happened. A faint gurgle from the earth and the lone howl of the air above as time moved on without her above. Guess there wasnt going to be anything else happening down here.

or perhaps not. Just as soon as she turned away, she felt it. A faint pinprick in her head, that gradually increasing pressure that usually preceded a major headache. Swell, was her joyous expletive, as if her conditions couldnt get any worse, until she found herself slowly crumbling as the pressure continued to grow stronger at a strangely swift rate. Shed suffered migraines before, but none of this magnitude, where it felt her brain would start squeezing through her skull. Palms to her temples, she attempted to apply counter-pressure, but only seemed to worsen it if anything. Her ears were starting to ring from the pain

no, not ringing. Her attention diverted momentarily from the intense headache as she realized there was a voice. A voice in her head. Headachesand insanity! But no, not those little internal monologues with her snarky subconscious; an actual voice. Something in the same sense as a psychic attempting to communicate in her thoughts- a discomforting presence that rattled her brainwaves, but it was an actual outside voice as well. It was coming from behind her, from the depths of the fissure. The sound grew louder, closer, and the pain intensified in turn. The kind of sound you would imagine in the horror stories children would hear, some lone figure moaning softly in the dark, dead yet sorrowful, right before the startling appearance of the specter that made it. If she wasnt dying from the pain, she would have taken the initiative to run the hell right out of there, as far from the place as she could; hell, claw her way back up the swamp if she had to. Needless to say, ghosts have never been- and mostly likely never will- some of the things shed enjoy meeting, and there was no fever to meet with whatever it was that was slowly making its way from the abyss. But it hurt even to move; she could only stumble back pathetically, eyes riveted to the spot with morbid intensity and her vision blurred.

She didnt want to see it. But she had to. If only to tell it to shut the hell up. She crawled forward, one hand clutched to her skull, breathing heavy through the choking sensation the headache was causing. "H-hey, knock it off. What do you want?" The demand came out more as a soft whisper, unable to gather the strength to raise it a decibel more.

.5 You deserved this. I havent read a post this interesting in ages.

Nearly incapacitated by pain, you managed to lean forward and mumble a weak plea only to be thrown back by a wave of psychic energy that sent you sprawling into the sloping side of the sink hole. The moan continued, rising in tempo as you collided with the slick wall and slid down into the ooze.

Looking up sharply, you saw a wavering mist materializing over the crevasse. The indistinct white cloud swirled and shifted, changing shape and taking form. The pain in your skull eased up a little allowing you to focus on the unearthly beauty of the thing before you. It appeared human, or at least, it might have once been human. Though semi translucent, you made out shining locks of lavender hair, eyes that matched your own. Everything about this being seemed familiar.

And then it struck you and momentarily the headache faded entirely. This ghost, or whatever it was, looked just like your brother Ferro. Now how creepy was that? Well, we can get a little creepier because the all too hot and sexy Ferro doppelganger was beckoning toward you longingly with his lean masculine arms. Never mind that this was an entity who had just ripped from your mind what it knew you thought was the most attractive male on the planet

Ferro started up another painful chorus of wailing that seemed meant to split your ear drums wide open. If you werent once again clutching your skull in agony, you might actually feel sorry for the guy.

So as a reward for her troubles, she was knocked around some more, body flying and slamming to the side of the hole. Well, least it was soft earth shed hit, and the impact wasnt nearly as damaging as it would have been, but still she did not enjoy being psychically flung around. It was just the same as being physically flung around minus the comfort of knowing who was doing the flinging. Strangely enough, once her feet had touched down on solid ground, the rattling in her head had subsided, and she stayed coherent enough to acknowledge the next out-of-this-world spectacle to take place before her eyes. A glowing mist arising from the depths, wavering and shifting from shapelessness into a recognizable form. Hands and arms, feet and legs, thighs, torso, head

There was a person then. A person created from the mist. The ghost she feared to meet, now finally face to face. But it wasnt the twisted, distorted remnant of something that was once presumably human, or some demonic entity whose faade would leave a scar in her deepest imagination. Vastly the contrary, this being before her looked perfectly human-angelic even- with such finely constructed attributes that would turn any womans head. And the otherworldly beauty was almost as fearsome as any hellish horror- and surely just as dangerous. Its translucent visage reminded her that it wasnt real- wasnt mortal, rather-, but with each feature she took in, something was clicking in the back of her mind. Puzzle pieces locking into place, reconstructing a long-forgotten image. The memory becoming whole, familiarity setting

shit. No. Fuck no. It couldnt be.

F...Ferro?

A name she havent whispered for literally years. A man shed long since stop believing existed, part of that past she knew couldnt have been anything more than just been a brief, beautiful dream. Her own flesh and blood, her reason for being what she was now, buthow

Another ghostly wail drifted from his lips, and she winced at the effect it caused, bringing back the agonizing ache in her skull that was now threatening to knock her out. He held out his arms to her, beckoning her, the sorrowful symphony rising. And posing a dilemma to the confounded girl- to comply with its wishes and approach, or not. What would happen to her if she did? Luring people to their demise was something ghosts and sirens were typically infamous for. And in her brothers image, possibly the only other human she would ever give a damn about? Now that was just low. On the other hand-

In the wettest marsh, in a pool of steam
The ghost of mist and fog is seen
Attacks will go right through, or miss
But all it wants is just

She didnt know why that particular passage flashed in her mind just now, especially when she could barely keep her thoughts in check. Call it a moment of insight, or one of those life-before-your-eyes event things, but it was enough to coax her feet to drag through the mud, towards the source of the sound that was giving her such a migraine that she would rather be turning the other way. To approach or notwhat would it want from her? It couldnt really be her brothercould it? If she didnt try to decipher the meaning of its presence here, the mystery would only further assail her when shed struggled for years to accept the fact that she would never see him again.

Ugh, Im coming. Enough already. Seeing how conveniently deafening his voice was, she didnt think her weaker plea mightve registered to his ghost ears.

Mist settled thick and white at the bottom of the drained pool. You couldnt even see your feet, not that you cared given the migraine this thing was giving you.
Ferro wailed all the louder with every step you managed to drag over toward him. His beautiful face looked imploring upon you and your headache swelled to phenomenal heights, crumpling you at his feet. Was he trying to talk to you? If he was he wasnt doing a very good job.

The throbbing agony mellowed for a moment and you looked up into his sad eyes, he still reached for you, wanting something. But what? Why couldnt he just say? Why was he assaulting you with this awful incapacitating pain? Perhaps it was all he was capable of.

You waited too long trying to find the answer. He slammed you to the ground again with another psychic wave. A glimmer of frustration crossed his eyes, almost as if lashing out was some sort of tantrum. Youd have to find out what he wanted before you could be rid of him or even think about crawling out of the hole, for surely hed mangle your mind and bring you back clawing and screaming until you solved the riddle.

This was all too like a bad Stephen King novel Give me what I want, and Ill go away

She stood stock still, trying to get her mind off the mental rape this spectre was doing to her. For all she could tell, the ghost that looked like her brother seemed to want her to do something, but with every inaction she got a slam to the ground instead. She didnt think there was a time when she wanted so badly to punch a ghost. Talk about being a big brat. Then again, brats usually didnt have the ability to beat you within an inch of your life, so she had to figure out what would settle this one before she joined him in the afterlife. On her hands and knees she looked down at the mist swirling around her limbs, and once more that passage from the HMs clue flashed in her head. Of ghosts and steam, and want for something. The missing passagewas this ghost really it, the one it referred to?

In the wettest marsh, in a pool of steam
The ghost of mist and fog is seen
Attacks will go right through, or miss
But all it wants is just

That was it, wasnt it? As best she could, she ran the alphabet of every word she could think of that could rhyme with miss, coming up with two possibilities. A stretch and only the most cryptic hint, but it was all she had. Struggling to her feet, she met Ferros eyes, frustrated and forlorn, wanting and waiting for her but only able to inflict this agonizing pain and this annoying wailing really wasnt helping any of their situations. And then this twisted feeling of sympathy to add to it. Something in his eyes was telling her something, drawing her closer. What he needed from her

Her lids fell on their own as her face leaned towards him, pulled by an instinctive drive to ease his suffering the only way she knew how. A kiss to a being of mist and steamit didnt occur to her that it probably wouldn't have the same effect to something incorporeal, but she was all out of ideas, and her pain threshold was wearing ever thin.

The intimate closeness of you to him brought an immediate and noticeable reaction. All pain ceased. His silence was abrupt. Anticipation rippled through the cool still air. The quiet was palatable, sweet. Leaning closer, your breath misted between your lips and his. A light shone behind his eyes hope. You touched. A burst of warmth, an explosion of light that was both blinding and dazzling.

Ferro vanished before you eyes. His disintegrating form blowing away in sudden gust of wind, his ashes like gold dust glowing in the dim light. Something caught your eye. Something drifting slowly down towards the ground just a foot in front of your face. A single strand of lavender hair, twisting like liquid silver in the air.

You caught it, and like Ferro had, it burst into a tiny shower of golden light, only to be absorbed into your skin. Somewhere a dark mark bled into the surface of your skin. The mark of the Holy Mechanism. Congratulations. Your quest was over, now you just need to get you ass out of that muddy sink hole
