The Pokémon Center was a welcome sight now. The sanctity of the red-roofed building was likely one of the few things on this planet that actually made some degree of sense. In here, Tethis could relax from all the walking he'd done so far, and take some time to spend with Zalera. But first, apparently, he needed to check the computer for various Pokémon that were in there.

And what a surprise awaited him! A Nidorino!

When he pulled it out of the PC and released it, the creature stared him down. Rather angrily, at that. Perhaps that Soothe Bell he'd received would come in handy - and he did, affixing the Soothe Bell to the Nidorino's neck before it tried to jab him with its horn. It didn't like Tethis one bit.

"Whatever wrongs humans have wrought on you are irrelevant to me. Now that you are here... and, I can tell very easily that you are more powerful than any creature I own... you will have a greater degree of freedom. My name is Tethis. Yours will be Zeromus."

It was a big ask, to try and placate this beast, but every step would count, now.

"I wish to allow you to have your freedoms to help me in a task I want to complete. Understand now, Zeromus, that I wish for your assistance in a task that, by the looks of you, you are one of the best-suited for the job. I will let you rampage and destroy anything you want. Anything at all - aside from me. You can work with me and I can let you do anything in life you want. I simply need you as an ally. And - I promise that within very short order you will become a Nidoking. Once you trust me a little more. Do we have an accord?"

Tethis' eyes burned with a fire. He now had his first in an army of creatures powerful enough to help him in his quest for dominance. Hopefully, the rest would come soon too - and that would mean many things for the young man.

-----

Looking for happiness for Zeromus.

Unbeknownst to the young boy, the Nidorino was full of rage. It was only very recently his life partner and his children had been eaten in front of his eyes, and he was angry! This little boy was promising that he would be able to break and smash and rampage... let out all that pent-up stress. Get revenge, and hunt down the human who would try to do the same thing.

"You want to destroy, don't you?"

"Nido."

It didn't take a genius, by the poison beast's tone, to work out that he wanted sorely to destroy something, taking a lot of effort to contain it. Tethis was not going to stop Zeromus from what he wanted to do. He wanted this beast to trust him,t o come with him on a difficult journey that would undoubtedly make the world shake if they tried. He wasn't adverse to these sorts of things. Tethis understood very well what it meant to have freedoms.

"Come, then. You can take your anger out on any creatures you see."

It was a start. Not much of one, but it was a start. Tethis was now able to take Zeromus out to find a foe and let the Nidorino have a crack at taking it down. Perhaps some rage-fuelled battle would make the monster's nerves settle just a little, to help Tethis bring it into his team full-force.

He did care about this one. He cared enough to want this monster to be the strongest out and let it destroy as it pleased. And that was enough for Zeromus.

-----

Looking for more happiness for Zeromus, and an encounter!

This was a start, anyways. Just a start, though. He'd wait to see if this human was true to his word before feeling any better. His family was still dead, and nothing would change that. It would take time before he got over the sorrow and anger, with or without mauling other things in the mean time.

There was no shortage of things to beat up, even in the city, though. What did you always see in cities, no matter where you were? Birds!

Like that bird over there, hopping around on the sidewalk and minding its own business!

Tethis had done the smart thing before walking out of the Pokémon Center and invested in a wagon to carry his berry trees. That way, he could pull them around and keep an eye on them wherever he went, and also more conveniently water tem when that time came. Fortunately, that time had already come, and the thirsty buggers were given all the water they needed.

In the meantime, they'd found a Pidgey. Oh yay, an enemy who needed to be defeated. Tethis didn't even need to point before the Nidorino roared, charged forward, and delivered its toxic horn-jab. That impressed Tethis. Zeromus was indeed willing to launch himself head-first into a battle, right when he had to.

He did have a strong ally. But issuing orders wasn't going to work here. Zeromus needed to run rage-rampant.

It was... mildly onesided, really. Actually, it was exceptionally onesided. The attack, at its most powerful, did four times the HP of the Pidgey, so... Well, yeah, there wasn't much to say. Even being a quick little bird, the angry bastard Nidorino charged on the unsuspecting critter and rammed its horn right straight through it.

There was feathers and the dying scream of the bird, and it was all over. Now he just had to get the dead bird off of his face. Angry Nidorino gains .4 :exp and 1 :happiness . He looks kinda bored, though. That had almost been too easy. There wasn't nearly enough time to savor the violence.

Zeromus roared, a big long primal scream that released much of the rage inside. Actually... no. It was just an indication that the beast was furious, and needing far more of a difficult challenge to face. This was not enough! One dumb bird was not enough to destroy!

"Nidooooooooo!"

He roared again.

Tethis nodded, knowing that it wasn't enough. He'd need to find more of a challenge. more of a... flock of enemies. He was getting his kicks from watching things being destroyed. What a strange reaction for a twelve year old boy, he surmised, before continuing on his search across Escennia. There had to be a group of enemies, something that Zeromus could really sink his teeth into and tear apart. And by Deoxys, they'd find it.

The cities didn't house particularly strong pokémon, not when humans were everywhere. It was pretty safe to say that no single pokémon could even think about taking on something as powerful as Zeromus. Why, you'd have to be either exceptionally brave, angry or dumb to pick a fight with an angry Nidorino consumed by bloodlust.

That'll be a job for some Spearow, then.

A quartet of birds had seen the recent carnage involving the Pidgey. Now, the poor sap had been a member of a rival urban clan, so Pidgey had it coming. But these guys were different. The South Side Spearow worked as one, as brothers. They ran this town from the skies, and ain't no jumped-up Nidorino gonna stop them. As one, the four Spearow swooped in, and circled Zeromus, cawing menacingly. Enjoy your rage outlet.

Four pathetic Spearow. Was there nothing truly strong within the cities, or had those beasts all been hunted to death? Oh well. Four opponents would make ample target practise for now, and once the four Spearow were spotted, Tethis stepped back, far more interested in protecting his berry tree investments than anything else. Zeromus would be far more content to tear apart these four Spearow on his own.

He wouldn't listen to orders, anyway.

The Nidorino charged in blindly, knowing that it could take all of them out. And that it would. First, with a body-launching stab through with its horn designed to pierce through one of the Spearow's skulls, then an aerial leap into a furious assault of horn and claws, designed to, under a withering hail of blows, tear apart the foe.

Was this enough to sate Zeromus? Perhaps, perhaps not. If Tethis could simply buy time until the Nidorino was happier, then it didn't matter. If things worked out the way he wanted them to, then this was but a minor speed bump. And the destruction of these Spearow would be a drop in the bucket - hell, Tethis would not have cared if the Nidorino killed humans at this point. Whatever it took to get Zeromus to trust him.

Too bad the Nidorino wasn't sure what he was doing; yes, he had a plan in mind, but he didn't think it through. Angry Pokemon were usually so uncontrollable and well, angry. Rage clouded the mind and in this Nidorino's case, he forgot. As he leapt up with his horn aimed at the Spearow, something in him burst out - it wasn't enough to just crush that little Spearow's skull. Why not more? With a roar, the horn was now imbued in a sickly purple light.

Poison Jab.

The Spearow shot to the ground, head now smashed into a pulp; his horn began a barrage of assault now on another innocent Spearow. One more dead. All this happened, too fast for the Spearow to even react. The last two now looked painfully at the bloody mess that used to be their brothers; and with menacing eyes they crowed to the heavens. Then they tunneled through the air, hitting the Nidorino at his sides. A grunt - that's all.

And there was still a battle to be won. Two foes remained; Tethis would not allow Zeromus to leave this battlefield with either of them remaining standing. He could crush and kill them to his content. The rage was slowly turning into focus; a focus that would allow the proud Zeromus to become a skilled warrior that knew of no bounds.

Wounds? Who cared about wounds? He could keep fighting on strong and not lose. And that was exactly what Zeromus intended to do.

As the battle raged, Tethis took his chance to water his two berry trees; they were starting to come along nicely. However, his attentions were focused on the purple monster rampaging around the streets of Escennia, unleashing a world of torment and pain on birds who, in the eyes of most, did not deserve such fate - but at the hands of a callous and apathetic young boy, would be tortured.

So, the Nidorino rampaged more, intending to slay both of these Spearow on the end of his horns. Two more victories and perhaps he would be closer to his goal. Perhaps then this... boy... would give him a push in the right direction. And perhaps then it would be interesting enough to see where things took Zeromus and this human.

For now? Death awaited those who would stand against him.

Glee. Tethis finally had a victory under his belt, and Zeromus was still fighting fit after it! It had been all too easy; a swarm could have come to challenge him at their will and the Nidorino would have won with flying colours. But now it was time to step the game up and make Zeromus even more powerful. The Nidoking species was pure power, pure focus, amazing will; there would be nothing that could stop him once he'd fought with that power at his side.

First, it was to the Pokémon Center; a brief stint there would give the Nidorino back his full fighting prowess. Minor scratches from the birds, but nevertheless. It was something to be considered as Tethis plotted the next step of his journey, poring over a map that would undoubtedly reveal the path to the next location he wished to go. It was simple, for some of the more ruinous Pokémon existed in the deserts and mountains of the world. Travelling there would reveal a swathe of creatures he could add to his collection.

Once the nurse returned his Pokémon, Tethis uttered not even one word of thanks as he took back Zeromus and released him from his prison. From his pack he also extracted a Moon Stone and pressed it to the Nidorino's forehead - and then he started to glow, to metamorph, to become a larger, stronger, more powerful creature... a Nidoking.

"This is the power I promised you. You could crush a human with a single swipe of your tail. Is this what you wanted? Is this what you wished to have to bring to bear against humans and Pokémon alike?"

That kid was cruel. He was giving Zeromus everything he wanted, but to give that would spell pain and injury for the rest of his own species. Strange, that.

-----

Spending 2.5 GenXP on Zeromus to get him to level 58, evolving him. Going for some happiness, too.

This new form was.... impressive. There was power; he could feel it rippling through his body. Just what he'd been looking for! Perhaps this child was not such a bad sort after all, but there was still that lingering feeling of mistrust left in his mind. The last vestiges of an emotion. Perhaps he was to be trusted. That remained to be seen.

"Now, we're leaving. We must head up into the mountains - and create ourselves a small army of powerful monsters. We will take the world by storm, and you will certainly enjoy the results, Zeromus. Come."

The Nidoking roared, and stomped along behind Tethis. The boy continued walking, dragging his red wagon that bore the two berry trees behind him, ready to find out just what it was that awaited them on the grasslands before they reached the Aridair desert. When they got there... if there was glorious battle to be had, then a glorious battle would be fought.

He couldn't wait to unleash Zeromus on someone.
