The stop in Malral had been brief. Had Elizabeth more time to explore she might've found the place rather strange. Anyway, she was focused on reaching Brightopolis, hopefully by the beginning of next week. The vouchers for the Brightopolis PokeMart she'd received from the catching contest were only good for four more weeks. One had already expired and Liz was hoping not to waste anymore time. Still she didn't think it would be easy to find their way through the marshy Murmur Valley. Fog rolled in from the east, fog so thick Liz doubted she'd be able to see her hand in front of her face. Fortunately she was headed North, North West to be precise. Along the western border was the barrier mountains. She was hoping to travel right along their base where she'd be relatively safe from the unstable marsh. Tansy breathed in a deep breath of air. She liked the moist air, it was cool and refreshing for the grassling. Though there wasn't much sun. It would've been perfect otherwise. Liz chuckled at her flowered companion. She had three newish companions with her as well. Ones she hoped to get to know better. Speaking of which, Liz balanced a Pokeball in her palm. The sphere was cool to the touch yet she could almost sense an inner warmth radiating from the Pokeball. Liz often wondered how people could tell Pokeballs apart. She was starting to learn that it was an acquired skill almost an instinct one developed when around their Pokeballs for a long period of time. This ball contained Chani. But she was no longer Chani the Scyther. She was now Chani the Scizor. Due to a little luck and a helping hand, Liz had achieved the small goal of seeing Chani evolved. She and the Scizor had been together for a bit now. Chani had grown under her training though the two were still sometimes at odds. Chani had a strong will and a fierce heart. "Chani, join us would you?" She requested of the ball. In a flash the imposing Scizor appeared before her. Liz now had to look up at Chani as Liz only stood a mere five foot five and Chani now towered at five foot eleven. Truth be told, Chani could probably rip Liz apart. But the Scizor simply greeted her trainer with a curt nod. Tansy waved a vine in a friendly manner to Chani. Even though as a Scyther she'd tried to eat Tansy the Ivysaur held no grudge toward her. The mantis seemed to smirk at the budded Pokemon. Liz continued her way into the march the two Pokemon following alongside. She veered as close to the mountains as was possible keeping alert to any potential soft spots in the ground. Chani studied the area with her keen gaze. It was a rather odd place. As the young trainer walked she idly cradled two more Pokeballs in her hand. These contained her other new companions, a Pikachu and Houndour. Liz had captured them during the contest and had yet to name them. Well more company couldn't hurt right? She pressed the small button on both spheres pausing just long enough for the electric rodent and fiery dark canine to appear. Liz knelt down and gently scooped up Pikachu who squeaked fearfully. Houndour blinked and growled staring at Liz, Tansy and Szicor. "Easy Houndour, easy Pikachu. It's ok, I'm your trainer Liz. You might not remember much of me but you were both very sick with PokeRus. You're cured now." Houndour huffed. She didn't seem too thrilled by this news. Pikachu however perked her ears still a bit frantic as her eyes weren't working as they should. "Careful Pikachu. I know you're scared. The PokeRus let other illnesses take hold of you. You were so sick it caused you to go blind. I'm afraid it's permanent too." All the Pokemon seemed a bit surprised at this news. It was rare that there was something Nurse Joy couldn't cure. Pokemon healed a lot easier than humans. Pikachu stared past Liz's face her sightless eyes wide. "Chu! Pika pi... chu." Not having been born blind it was a rather hard fact for Pikachu to accept. Liz gently caress the electric rodent holding her close to her chest. "It's ok Pikachu, I'll take care of you I promise. I'll take care of the both of you. When I found you Houndour, you were starving. Tansy?" Liz looked down to Tansy who nodded and raised a vine to deftly slip into a pocket of Liz's bag. The Ivysaur found her package of Pokemon food and laid it before Houndour. Greedily the canine dug into the mixture. Liz smirked a little, Pikachu sniffling against her chest. Tansy found a second container of food and passed it up to Liz. She scooped some from the container and held it in front of Pikachu. "Careful now, don't bite me." She cautioned the blind mouse. Tentatively Pikachu sniffed for the food and began to nibble on the soft pelt shaped morsels. Tansy and Scizor finished what was left of the second container as Houndour finished her own. Feeding four Pokemon cost a lot of food. Luckily, Loki hated the stuff. As a ghost he didn't need real nourishment, he got most his energy from pure fear. "There now that everybody's eaten, I'd like to give you two a name. See that's Chani," Liz pointed to the Scizor, "and this is Tansy. I came up with names that suited them so I wouldn't be calling them redundantly by their species name. It gets even more confusing when they evolved." Tansy laughed and Chani bore a sly smirk. Houndour shook herself and sat staring up at Liz. The food had won her over, for now. Liz could tell Houndour was going to be like Chani, stubborn with a mind of her own. But she wasn't being nearly as aggressive toward her as Chani had first been. Pikachu listened quietly. Liz was worried more for the blind electric type as she could grow listless. But back to the subject of names. "Hmm, you're both a dark and fire type Houndour. Though you seem to lean a bit more to the fire side of things." Liz paused to chuckle and Houndour simply tilted her head at the strange human. Liz smirked and continued. "So, hmm, what about something like Anala? If I remember right the name's meaning is fire." Anala? Houndour pondered the strange sounding name but nodded in agreement. She liked that, Anala. It was feminine yet had a powerful meaning. Anala barked her agreement causing Pikachu to startle and give Liz a small jolt. "Agh! Ow easy Pikachu! That's just Anala." Pikachu murmured apologetically. Liz gently caressed her back and shushed her. "I'm not mad hun. Let's come up with a name for you now ok?" "Chuu..." Pikachu replied hesitantly. Liz walked a bit in silence thoughtful. Chani hovered along beside her, powerful wings creating a steady buzz that drowned out other noises. Anala trailed along behind sniffing at the soggy earth. Tansy led the way as usual checking back over her shoulder that Liz was still within eyesight. While the fog was thinner here they could still get separated easily if they wandered off too far. "I know!" Liz's sudden voice broke the stillness that had settled over them causing them all to jump slightly startled. Liz rolled her eyes then looked down at Pikachu. "I'll call you Cecylia." Pikachu perked up at the name. It was quite a lovely name and delicate. Pikachu nodded trying to meet Liz's gaze but unable to look directly at her trainer's face. Liz grinned and gently rubbed the fur on her head. "Anala and Cecylia, welcome to the team." Cecylia sighed and rested her head back on Liz's chest. What good could a blind Pikachu be to her? Liz continued to cradle Cecylia, intent to try and teach her how to live this new life of hers. Anala more or less ignored her new trainer too curious about the strange sights and smells this soggy place had. Content to leave her companions free to roam, Liz continued on the course she'd planned out. The Poketech on her wrist would alert her to her arrival at the next landmark. Hopefully as long as she kept the barrier mountains to her left she'd know she was going the right way. Though she was in a bit of a hurry, she wondered what sort of Pokemon lived in these areas. With the mountains looming on her left and the marshy fog to her right it didn't seem likely that many Pokemon could dwell in such a harsh environment. Still she could tell Chani was keeping a sharp look out. Tansy and Anala were more or less too busy exploring to really care about wild Pokemon. Cecylia was still mourning the loss of her eye sight. They were an odd crew to be trekking through the valley but there's strength in numbers as they say. That was longer than I intended, could be a mini-freeform >.>, ... maybe some for any of my 'mons? .3 There is much love in the world. Love makes the world go round. Love is all you need, right? 1 for your mans, man...Well, girl, anyhow. Close enough. On the group walked, thought the mist that wreathed around them, in almost eerie silence, sometimes wondering if they were just traveling in circles, it was so hard to tell sometimes. That bush looked familiar, anyhow. "Hoo..." Hey look, a distraction! After the endless emptiness, almost anything was likely to be welcome, and the faint call was like a lodestone. It was in the right direction (or at least, you THOUGHT it was the right direction), so it wouldn't even be out of the way to seek it out. Nice! "Hoo..." Exactly one minute after the first cry, a second floated through the fog, giving an easier time pinpointing it. Indeed, every minute, exactly, another call sallied forth. You could almost set a clock by this sucker, whoever it was. After a few more minutes of walking, a tree slowly took shape out of the mist, and a fluffy brown bird sat in the branches. "Hoo..." ~~~~~~~~~~~~ ![]() Lv. 19 57/57 ~ Calling out like clockwork (EDIT: Completely OOC question...where did the 4 week limit rule come from for the Brightopolis Contest pokemart collection first prize? I don't see it in the award listing of what people recieved. All I see is that you can't save up missed weeks, not that there's a time limit on collecting them. Just want to check on it myself, so I know, since I also have the same prize. :) Thank you in advance for clarifying!) Edited by DarthEevee, Nov 28 2009, 10:27 AM.

0.3 ![]() When the hooting had first begun, Anala perked up her ears. Liz knew she liked fried Pidgey and worried a little she might have a taste for fried Hoothoot too. "Easy Anala," she cautioned. Anala ran up alongside Tansy her whole body tense as she listened. Tansy gave the Houndour a wary look. She didn't like anything that could breath fire. Cecylia perked up her ears listening alertly to the sound. Liz smiled down at the Pikachu. Her greatest asset now would be her hearing. Chani didn't seem at all worried about the hooting. She remained alongside Liz watching the small canine's eagerness. Chani didn't care much for fire types either, especially now that her mantis body was encased in steel. When they finally came into sight of the Hoothoot Anala began barking wildly. "Anala! Settle down girl. It's just a Hoothoot." Liz reprimanded the dark dog. Anala huffed and sat down on her rump gaze locked on the odd bird. Cecylia flicked an ear toward the commotion. Anala's sudden barks jarred her a bit but she was getting used to sudden sounds. Tansy rolled her eyes and stepped forward raising a vine to wave to Hoothoot. The young trainer studied the Hoothoot a moment. It was the first bird they'd officially run into. She'd been looking for a flying type for awhile now and hadn't considered Hoothoot, and it's evolved form Noctowl. Hmm, a psychic flying type, that would prove useful. Maybe we'll ask him if he'd like to come along with us. Of course asking a Pokemon to accompany you tended to not work out well. "Hey Hoothoot." Liz greeted the little bird in a friendly manner. "You're a pretty precise little hooter. Is that all you do is sit in that tree hooting? Seems kind of boring. I was wondering if maybe you'd like to join up with us. I'd show you all kinds of exciting things and help you grow stronger, even to evolve into a Noctowl. Does that interest you at all little one?" Well Hoothoot would probably just attack her, but Liz always liked to ask first. If Hoothoot didn't attack but didn't want to come, she'd be on her way. She could probably challenge him and easily overpower the little bird, Cecylia, though blind, still packed quite a punch. But Liz didn't really feel in the mood to battle. She was more worried about getting to Brightopolis. Liz ~ Asking Hoothoot if he'd like to join them 14/20( Well that's why I thought we had to use it in a certain amount of time. "five items from any Brightopolis PokeMart, once a week, to receive free of charge. (You have to be in Brightopolis to get this, and they do not stack for weeks missed.)" ie. we get 1 item per week for 5 weeks, if we miss a week we don't get that week back. But maybe I'm totally wrong on that. ) |

.3 ( I read 5 items, once a week, as you get 5 items in any given week, once per week, and you can't save them up as you can Berry King berries from weeks you miss. And since when I asked in the prize collection thread about getting 5 items since the contest meant that I was there...I was allowed to take 5 items...I really don't think it's 1 item per week for the next 5. If it were what you think, I don't think there would have been the missed week bit...it seems a little harsh, otherwise, considering other people got free TMs and the like, just automatically, without having to go to Brightopolis IC. I interpret it as that it doesn't include the supermall shops, tho...just the pokemart, with the bonus that you don't need to worry about how many badges or whatever you have available to you. A full clarification might be handy, tho, I think. *sends a PM to Fordy for clarification* We shall see what he has to say. *nodnods* EDIT: Got confirmation. It's 5 items once any given week, pokemart items only (but number of badges doesn't matter), not the extra supermall shops, can't be saved like Berry King Berries, can only be collected if in Brightopolis.) The Hoothoot sat there, a flicker of his eyes the only indication that he had acnowledged your presence, still as stone otherwise. "Hoo..." .... "Hoo..." Well, he's not attacking anyhow...but he apparently finds it Very Important to keep up his timekeeping duties. How very boring. On the upside, it wasn't a jump into hostilities, so you could move on if you didn't want to try to reason further with the stuffy little timepiece, but it was an option, if you wanted. ~~~~~~~~ ![]() Lv. 19 ~ Apparently finds it more important to be a clock than to talk with people trying to be nice to him...how rude Sorry for the shortness...just couldn't think of what else to say here. 0.3 (Ok well cool! Thanks for clearing that up for me. The whole can't be saved for weeks or whatever was confusing. :P No badge limit? Makes it better than I thought. xP) Well perhaps having a perfect Hoothoot clock would actually help out here. Liz smirked and shook her head. She didn't feel the need to reason with Hoothoot. Instead she shifted Cecylia up to her shoulder so she could reach into her pack. Cecylia gripped her head tightly with her small paws not feeling secure at all balanced on the girl's shoulder. Liz retrieved the Apicot berry from her bag and placed it on the branch beside Hoothoot. "That's alright Hoothoot. You just keep doing what you do. Here's a berry in case you get hungry. Bye." Liz reached up to steady Cecylia with a hand then beckoned to Anala and Tansy. "Come on you two, let's keep moving." The fire canine and budded dino hurried after their long legged trainer. Liz kept a steady hand on Cecylia's hip just to reassure her little rodent. Chani kept pace with her hovering slightly over the ground. Liz used her free hand to reach into the bag at her side. She pressed her hand against the egg within. It was warm and moved slightly. Liz blinked and peered inside at it. Seems that it was getting closer to hatching. She wasn't sure how much longer but another reason for her to be in Brightopolis had arisen. Having a baby hatch out here couldn't be good. "We'd better hurry guys, this little egg's getting close to hatching." All four Pokemon looked excited by this prospect. A new baby for them all to play with. Liz grinned glad her teammates were as eager as her to meet this little one. They all quickened their pace hoping to get through this valley and to the foot of Mt. Fog soon. -1 ![]() Route: Mist Valley → Mt. Fog → Soggy Dirt → Brightopolis 15/20

.3 No problem. You had gotten me curious, too. Well, that was nice. Despite his obvious rudeness, being understanding and giving him a berry was quite generous of the trainer. +1 ![]() "Hoo..." Of course, the call every single minute did make a very handy external compass of sorts. It additionally let one keep track of the minutes, at least while he was still in earshot. Even when Liz couldn't hear him any more, after some twenty hoots, little blind Cecylia's ears flicked back regularly, indicating that her better hearing was still picking up on it. Anala was a touch disappointed she couldn't eat him, but her new trainer had just fed her, so it wasn't very disappointed. On the group marched through the misty valley, trees appearing like ghosts and disappearing as quickly. About another ten minutes after the trainer couldn't hear the hooting bird, a sheer wall of rock suddenly loomed up in front of the group. Once the initial startlement was overcome and a more careful inspection done, trying to move around the wall...it was discovered that this wasn't a mere wall...no, it was a mountain. Reached: Mount Fog |

0.4 (For mods and for the contest stuff) Liz chuckled as she listened to the Hoothoot fade away. It did help keep her sense of direction as she could tell Hoothoot was behind her and they weren't circling back around to him. Anala yawned boredly. The Houndour wanted some action. Even Tansy plodded along at a slower pace idly watching the scenery pass by. Scizor flitted a few feet ahead of Liz taking the place in the lead. The two smaller Pokemon had returned to Liz's side. It was nice having more than just Tansy out to keep her company. With her 'posse', she felt safer in the damp valley. Cecylia was growing curious about her hearing. Faintly she could still make out the Hoothoot's clock like ticking even when Anala had long lost the sound. She listened closely for other such sounds wary of anything that they might come across. A form loomed ahead in the thin fog. Liz hesitated then grinned as she realized they had at last reached the foot of Mt. Fog. Now if she stuck to the West side and headed North she should cross into the soggy dirt and from there be able to see Brightopolis. "Hey halfway there guys!" She announced to her companions. Her hand rested inside the bag at her side, caressing the warm, quivering egg. Just a few more miles my young one. And thus they walked, their pace brisk as they all wanted to reach civilization soon. 16/20Route: Mist Valley → Mt. Fog → Soggy Dirt → Brightopolis |

.3 Walking around the base of the mountain is much easier than trying to go over it, that was for sure. The group meandered along the base of the mountain, trying to reach the next city as quickly as possible. Because they didn't want the baby to hatch in the middle of a murky, misty swamp? Who knew really. But then, who wants to spend more time than necessary in a murky swamp if they can avoid it. Granted, that was another plus to being near the mountain...the ground was pretty firm, so travel was easier. *CRNCH* There had been tree just behind them, hadn't there? Well, yeah...but now it was falling in slow motion as it's trunk shattered. A large boulder that you were positive HADN'T been there a moment ago might be the culprit. Cecylia's ears twitched, then she squealed. "PIKA!!!" With the cry of warning, she dove off of Liz's shoulder, hoping that something would get the point across to the trainer. Even if it meant she faceplanted into something because she couldn't see. Hopefully, though, 'DUCK!' would be a pretty good guess in the situation, with the tree still falling over behind them. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ![]() Lv. 21 63/63 ~ Taking potshots at the group...with Very Large Rocks As a matter of fact, one is flying at Liz right now. 0.3 ![]() So far the going was easy. The ground by the mountain was much firmer than the swampland to their right. If they could avoid muck as much as possible the better. A few sparse trees grew along the mountain base providing a bit of shade. The sun seemed to shine brighter here. Suddenly Cecylia freaked. With a shrill, 'PIKA!', she hurled herself widly from Liz's shoulder. The trainer stood dumbfounded a moment just as a rush of wings and metal roughly tackled her. Chani knew exactly what that rumbling sound was and why Cecylia had fled. A massive boulder collided with the earth Liz had just been standing on then rocked to a halt. Liz groaned from the ground beneath the heavy Scizor. Well the boulder had been avoided but there was still a tree rolling down the hill. "Ow... what the hell?!" Chani fluttered off her trainer who quickly scrambled to her feet. Her eyes went wide at the sight of the falling boulders and tree. She checked the egg at her side. Chani's flying tackle hadn't damaged the egg any. The was little time to do much else but run. Tansy and Anala had been watching the chaos as well. Cecylia had been saved a nasty faceplant by Tansy's quick acting vines. The dark canine stood there barking at the Geodude who was the culprit behind the falling rocks. Anala wasn't the brightest of Liz's Pokemon. They saw their trainer fleeing toward them but Chani had vanished. Where the Scizor had disapeared too they didn't know, just that they all needed to be running for their lives! And so they did, running wildly out of the path of the tumbling tree. Moving with the power and speed of her kind, Chani deftly bypassed the tumbling log and streaked toward the Geodude. Using her incredible Agility combined with a Quick Attack, she was upon the Geodude in no time. "Scizor!" She glared angrily at the rock. Chani didn't appreciate having boulders thrown at her, or her friends, though she would never admit it. She didn't pause in her attack and raised one glowing pinsir to deliever a deadly Metal Claw to the offending rock. .3 The rocky beast grinned happily as he watched the scozor knock the human out of the way just in time, then the group as a whole scramble to their feet ans start gallopoing away. It was such fun watching scenes like this...so much fun in fact that it would be great to continue the fun aith another boulder! 0.2 ![]() The foursome watched the tree crash into the level ground and shudder to a halt. Suddenly a odd looking rock with arms followed suit. In a metallic flutter of wings Chani returned to Liz's side looking a bit smug. Liz plopped onto the ground panting. "Nice work Chani." She raised her eyes to Chani's and gave the steel bug a grateful smile. Chani merely inclined her head. Anala and Tansy with Cecylia wrapped in a vine, regrouped with their trainer. All of them too were panting their adrenaline pumping from their unexpected work out. "Everybody ok?" Liz question as she leaned over to check each of her teammates. Her only remaining occupied Pokeball began to tremble. Loki soon appeared hovering over the six. He frowned staring sternly down at them. 'You let me miss all of this?!' The ghost seemed quite agitated then swooped down to tug roughly on Liz's hair then cackled. The trainer rolled her eyes and got to her feet. "Well since everybody's ok, let's get a move on. First, Anala, Chani, please return. I'm going to leave you out Cecylia as I want you to get used to the world without the use of your eyes." The three other Pokemon vanished again into their Pokeballs. Liz hoped they'd make more time if she didn't have to keep track of them all. Tansy resumed her position in the lead. She gently set Cecylia down beside her. Liz looked at the ghost who hovered at her side making faces at the little Pikachu. "Loki." Liz stated sternly. The ghost rolled over going through his trainer's head. She sighed gazing up at the sky. "Loki, please would you share any images you can with Cecylia of our surroundings? Help her get an idea of what things around her look like." Loki eyed the little rodent then 'shrugged'. 'As you wish.' So they continued on, Cecylia walking alongside Tansy who helped her avoid anything that might trip her up. And Loki projecting images of what things looked like around here. Cecylia kept her ears pricked listening to the world around her. Her nose was growing more sensitive too. The scent of the mountain air and damp swamp added to the mental images. Once she knew the layout of the place she ought to be able to use other other senses to navigate things pretty well. Of course Loki sometimes shot her an image or two that caused the little rodent to fire back a bolt of lightning. Liz sighed as she double checked her egg. Thin veins could be seen on the shell and the egg shook more violently. Not much farther now little one. Hopefully at their quickened pace they'd be entering the soggy dirt on the other side of the mountain. From there Liz hoped they could see the city of Brightopolis. So close, yet so far. Route: 18/20

0.3 (Cause we luffs joo) They'd left behind the firmer earth at the base of the mountain and were now trudging through muck. Mmm mucky muck. Well hopefully no Pokemon would impede (I like that word) their travels through here. Cecylia took to Liz's shoulder once more. Tansy was much too big for Liz to carry now thus settled for following behind Liz letting her lead the way. Loki continued to hover by the trainer's shoulder. He kept up his task of projecting images to Cecylia's mind. There wasn't a whole lot to see here anyway. Soggy dirt was no fun. "Lets get out of this as quickly as we can." The trio of 'mons agreed and quickened their pace though the dirt hindered them some. Brightopolis was in sight now, how long it really took them to reach it was yet to be seen. And to top it off, cracking sounds came from Liz's side. The egg was starting to hatch, this wasn't really the best place for a young Pokemon to be born now was it? 0.3 ![]() Oh snap the egg. It's about to hatch. Tell you what, how about I send you to a place where there's lots of power and warmth and electricity and sunshine and happiness to go and take care of that? Sounds good? Great. Let's do that. Enjoy. In front of you, the city of Brightopolis now looms, the massive figure on the horizon taking up so much of your vision. A place of wonder and joy, a place of tall buildings, gambling, and possibly Team Rocket if the rumours were true. They are, but let's not go into that today. For you, your focus is the bundle of joy in your hands. Enjoy it. ----- Reached: Brightopolis |
