So. Pokemon swarming Brightopolis, national emergency time, everybody has to team up and save the day!

Or not.

A catching contest. A rather primitive, but undoubtedly effective way to solve the problem of Pokemon swarming while keeping the city streets clean. Cerb still wasn't quite sure why they had all zoomed into Brightopolis to use it as a stronghold, but meh. It hadn't been a long trip to get there, at least.

"And hopefully no Arcanines will come and steal my balls this time, eh?" She muttered dryly to Sparky on her shoulder. The Pikachu grumbled and slapped a paw to his face at the memory, shaking his head. Butt groping was not on the agenda, presumably. And they only had twenty Park Balls, a precious, precious commodity that Cerb didn't want to waste or have get stolen.

"Sooo... they should theoretically be jumping out to steal our livers any moment now." The teen was standing on a sidewalk on the side of the road, which was lined by numerous alleys where Pokemon might like to hide and ambush. This contest was interesting to her for two reasons - the ability to further fill her 'dex pages, and the prospect of keeping one special Pokemon. "But it won't hurt to look, now will it,"

A Jigglypuff. That was her main target. Anything else...merely target practice, she supposed.

WOOOOOO WE IS GONNA CATCH US SOME POKEYMANZ,

"If you didn't just scare them all away, Delphi," Cerb grumbled, also releasing her Vulpix and Snorunt out into the world along with the hyperactive Absol. Delphi blew her a great, sloppy raspberry, while Wendigo giggled a puff of cold air and Pixie just made a face. "Lookin' for critters, any critters at all. C'mon guys,"

The bunch set off down the sidewalk in a somewhat slow fashion. Delphi pranced around like a loon, while Sparky remained fixed on her shoulder. Pixie trotted daintily next to her right leg, while Wendigo latched onto her left pantleg and clung there, a cold ball of cackles.

Looking very specifically for a male Jigglypuff. But I accept everything else. D:

Oh glory, what a great day it is to be catching Pokemon! Nevermind that they are infected with a virus, the city was swarming with Pokemon! The usual sounds of city life was replaced with the cries of wildlife as Pokemon took over in the daily life of the city in the stead of humans. Not to mention that there are trainers running around catching them all!

It's so ridiculous that it's not even funny. Whenever there are swarms of Pokemon in one spot, trainers tend to flock there. Then they would just batter them down until there's none left. Oh, the cruelty of humanity! Small wonder that the city was filled with an ominous atmosphere.

Maybe it was the atmosphere, but something caused your doom alarm go off like crazy. When you tried to calm the alarm, you would have a chance to look up into the skies. Lo, there's a huge bird up there, circling above you! Then you hear s shrill cry, and the bird dove straight towards you, or rather, your fox. Sure, there was no Pikachu to try to snack on, but a fox is an okay alternative.

Skipping merrily along the sidewalk, Delphi paused and switched her tail suddenly. It wasn't clear yet what was wrong here, but something...was odd. Off. It was oddly quiet for this part of the city, when things should have been running around upsetting traffic and tipping over garbage cans.

...a bit too quiet for her taste. On a reflex, Delphi looked up and spotted the monster bird swooping down to eat Pixie. Nevermind Sparky being...right there out in the open on Cerb's shoulder. Eh, who cared. OH SHEET IT'S DEATH FROM ABOVE!

Cerb's head whipped up so fast something in her neck cracked. "Oh hell. Sparky, Delphi, get it," she addressed the two Pokemon, gently nudging Pixie behind her with one leg. The Vulpix crouched behind her shins, growling and baring her fangs at the big bird coming in for the kill. "Wendigo, countin' on you to be our shield...and back them up too, now that I think about it. Quickly,"

"Pikaaa," Sparky sprang from her shoulder at the Staraptor, a wave of thin static rolling off his body before he dropped back down, landing on Delphi's back. In turn, the Absol used him as a quick power generator and sent off a momentous bolt of lightning for some birdy frying. In the back, Wendigo let go of Cerb's leg and stood protectively in front of his trainer, ready to block incoming attacks as his little mouth opened wide, shooting a spray of icy shards over Delphi's head to strike the Staraptor.

Almost a bit too late, the teen realized their object was not to kill things here. "Delphi, don't fry it totally!" She called a bit uselessly to the Absol, before digging in her pocket for one of the park balls. Ball, ball, need to throw to catch a birdy, yes. Cerb took aim as best she could before she chucked it, because it'd be awfully embarrassing if she missed, now wouldn't it?

The attacks were swift, brutal and deadly. The battle was going to be joined, even if the Pokémon attacking this bird were, on the whole, weaker than their prey. In groups, things tended to be more successful, and that was hopefully going to be the case here.

The ice shard flew through the air as if the winds carried it, in order to strike its aerial target. The cold jammed up its wings some, but that would not discourage the predatory flying monster, for it wished to prey on something here in order to satiate its new-found battle-lust. While it could have continued on course to attack the fox it wished to dine on, the fox was not sizing up for battle. That was not how things were to go.

Things were to go, however, with a massive onslaught against Delphi the Absol, the Staraptor deciding to coat itself in a mystical blue aura to strike. It flew at massive speeds, bravely flying in to finish its strike against Delphi. Its wings were closed, and with the aura-like flames surrounding it, it performed a high-speed, full-body strike against the creature. Delphi was hit massively, but could certainly not be considered out.

As if in revenge, the lightning struck - both sets, together, one to paralyze and the other to cause massive damage. Nothing so crippling as what the Staraptor had just wreaked, perhaps because Delphi was feeling weak, but there was definitely pain in there for everyone at this point. Not only had the bird injured itself thanks to its reckless strike, but it had been hit by all kinds of lightning. It wanted to hit again, but it couldn't - Sparky's thunder wae had prevented that.

Unfortunately for Cerb, the Park Ball that was thrown failed. It hit. It shook once. Twice. Then it broke. The Staraptor, thankful to be free, circled overhead once more. This was going to be harder than it seemed.

Hm. Unexpected complications. Well, if this just wasn't lovely.

"Back." Delphi's ball shot out a beam of red light to recall her, before further harm could knock out the Absol. Cerb couldn't help but reflect that Delphi seemed to get mauled a lot, then pushed that thought to the back of her head. The Staraptor was still up there, and they needed to bring it down, preferably quickly. "Sparky, you come back too,"

"Pika!" The Pikachu darted back and scrambled up into his trainer's arms to sit on her shoulder, while Cerb gently nudged Pixie into view with her foot, situating the Vulpix behind Wendigo. The Snorunt was still playing in his role as shield.

"C'mon Pixie, time to stack some statuses." The Vulpix nodded seriously, ears flat as she opened her mouth and displayed what amounted to a strobe light hiding in the back of her throat. The flickering orb floated up and out to burst in front of the bird, almost similar to a shower of fireworks. Pixie followed this with a small blast of concentrated bluish fire that seared the air as it passed over Wendigo's head, and the Snorunt shuddered uneasily. He didn't like that at all, noooo sir.

Now that this had been accomplished, Cerb reached for her balls and withdrew the Vulpix and Pikachu, leaving just Wendigo on the field. "Hail." The Snorunt's face burst into a crackish grin, as the little Pokemon giggled gleefully. Snow and ice, yes! He loved the cold, and he loved making the cold. Clouds gathered and formed overhead, eventually leaving ice to pelt down into the street. Cerb covered her head while reaching for another Park ball, while Wendigo skipped around basking in the ice. "I sure hope this works, damn bitch," and fwoosh went the ball, lobbed as hard as the teen could throw it with her puny female might.

Thanks to your earlier efforts, the Staraptor was nowhere near as swift as it normally was. In fact, Pixie now had a speed advantage, and she used it to full effect, flashing some strobes into the bird's face before belching some fire at it. Both attacks struck true, further burdening the raptor with statuses and hax.

As if that wasn't enough, the weather turned sour. Thanks to Wendigo, a hailstorm sprung up out of nowhere, battering the poor rage-infected Staraptor with nasty sharp bits of ice. It shrieked a war cry, and swooped down to strike at you with some horrific attack...

Only to get smacked in the face by a Park Ball that you'd chucked at it. Well, that was tedious. Staraptor would just have to break out of it.

Cerb watched with baited breath while the ball wiggled around on the pavement, hardly daring to breathe and ignoring the chunks of ice smacking into the top of her skull. Eventually the ball stilled, dinged, and vanished! Has caught a birdy, oh yeah.

"fffffff," the teen whuffed a bit to lower her levels of stress, finally now noticing the hail dinging off her head and putting her arms up to protect herself. "That was harrowing, eh?" The Snorunt nodded a little, before picking a piece of ice up off the sidewalk and chomping on it. The teen blinked at him a little, and then shrugged to herself. His version of shaved ice, she supposed. "Well, the ice is gonna scare all the 'manz around here into hiding...so let's move on,"

"Snow." Wendigo picked up pieces of hail from the sidewalk and stacked them into his little stubby arms for munching as they walked along. Cerb walked a bit rapidly since there was still hail pinging off her head, and she wanted out of it as quickly as possible. She still managed to scale her pace for the Snorunt, who skipped merrily along chomping his ice and enjoying his favorite weather.

Eventually, the sun prevailed and Cerb stopped to look around at where she was now. It was a place that looked rather like where she had just been, but more towards the other side of town. If she squinted through the buildings, she could see the ocean, but she wasn't quite meandering that direction. More parallel, if you will. "Well, this looks safe enough,"

Pause. Look left, look right. Up, down. Diagonally. Wendigo spat an ice chunk at her leg and giggled when she yelped.

"Oh drat you. Come on out again, guys," the teen reached for her balls and threw out her Pokemon again for companionship and rapid response time. Sparky reappeared on her shoulder and chittered, looking around for the birdy before relaxing and brushing hail out of her hair. Pixie was back down on the ground, and she swished her tails warningly at the Snorunt and his ice missiles before sitting and yawning. Peaceful scene of peace, oh yes.

Naturally, something would probably come to shatter that peace. Cerb didn't want to have Delphi out with the Absol's weakened condition, something would probably appear to pick her off. Keeping actively moving was probably the best solution. "We're still looking for a Jigglypuff, guys," she told her Pokemon, beginning to walk along the sidewalk. The two grounded Pokemon trotted along beside her legs, Sparky riding shotgun as Cerb tried to think of the best way to describe a Jigglypuff. "They're round like balls, and pink, and they've got little tufts of fur on their heads... Big round eyes, and they have this tendency to sing."

"Vul," Pixie grumbled, laying her ears back. She didn't want to deal with hypnosis shenanigans. Cerb reached down a bit to pat the fox comfortingly.

"Maybe we'll get lucky and find a nice friendly one," she muttered, wondering how likely that was in this city of crazed, bloodthirsty Pokemon. Probably not too likely, but she could dream.

Cue the Jaws music.

Dun dun.

There was... something approaching. There was a footstep, somewhere, nearby. None of Cerb's Pokémon could tell where it is. That made trying to locate whatever was coming... very difficult, then. If one could not be seen, one could hardly be found.

Dun dun, dun dun.

More shuffling footsteps. Standing in the middle of a four-way intersection in Brightopolis, the walls feeling like they were closing right in on you, with the gentle pattering of echoing footsteps surrounding your ears...man, this was starting to get weird. Not the occulting of even a shadow gave you the clue as to where your new-found foe was.

Dun dun, dun dun, dun dun.

And then... came... a voice?

Jii~

It was so hard to find this thing. It was... echoing, elusive, ever-present in the minds of those who wished to track the source of the sound. It bounced off walls, reverberated against trash cans and streetlights, to prevent anyone tracking it.

One by one, their eyes began to fall heavy. Pixie, Wendigo, Sparky... they could barely stay awake. Whatever was out there was holding them at bay, the melody of its heavenly voice forcing them to close their eyes and enter a peaceful slumber. Even Cerb would have some trouble with this.

And then, in front of them, trundled a small, pink ball, singing merrily, the Jigglypuff entirely willing to shut down this human using its voice - with a fang bared.

No sooner had they started searching, than did Cerb develop an itch near her right side. Felt rather like a muscle spasm, except it wasn't her muscles spasming. Lifting up her shirt quick, the teen took note of Delphi's ball thrashing around like a drowning man with epilepsy. That was never a good sign.

And oh god she could hear the Jaws music. That was never a good sign either.

"Stay alert, fellas. We're being stalked," she muttered, looking nervously about the streets as they slunk along like urban ninjas. Even though the place was crawling with trainers looking to hunt crazed Pokemon, one had to wonder who was really predator and prey here. Because really, Cerb had been on the dinner list like twice now. Do not want!

"Pika?" Sparky pricked his ears as some sound lurked at the edge of his range of hearing, nagging and irritatingly untraceable. Down below, Pixie flicked hers back and forth, turning her head to try and find the origin of this sound. It was still somehow getting closer, undetected, oh geez this was getting creepy...

Cerb jerked like she was hit by one of Sparky's shocks when the soft sound of singing floated through the air. Well, if that just wasn't the biggest damn indicator of their new assailant. She had been right about their tendency to sing, at least. "Ohshitohshit," the teen crammed her hands over her ears and pulled her jacket collar up around them to try and block out all the noise she could. Her Pokemon were less successful in their attempts, slowly flopping one by one onto the pavement. Sparky nearly fell right off her shoulder, but some quick flailing managed to catch him before he went splat. Falling on his head might have woken him up, but Cerb wasn't that mean. She used him for fuzzy earmuffs instead.

And then...there appeared the Jigglypuff. In all it's round, fluffy glory. Cerb squinted through her sleepy haze - holy shit was that a fang? She didn't even know they had teeth like that. Apparently so.

"Planplan, need a plan, omg," as long as that thing was still singing, all her Pokemon could be rendered useless in seconds. Cerb scuttled around thinking for a moment and fretting. Either stop the noise, or stop the noise's effects. There was one move she knew that could do that, and one Pokemon she had that knew it. One sleeping Pokemon.

"Pixiiiiiiiieeee, wake uuuup," Cerb hissed, adjusting her Pikachu earmuffs as she bent down and started pushing, shoving, and prodding at the Vulpix, doing everything short of outright kicking her. She pulled her ears and tails, even picked her up by the scruff and gently shook her in the air. Eventually something must have joggled her brain into awareness, because the fox sleepily blinked her eyes a few times and then flailed around in an effort to bite her trainer. Cerb yeeped and dropped her, and Pixie landed clumsily on the ground, giving a huge yawn and scuttling around to try and get back to sleep. "Nononono, don't sleep, don't sleep! Safeguard, Pixie! Safeguaaaard!"

"Vulleeeeh," the Vulpix complained drowsily. She didn't see the point of doing the move, but she gave her tails a lazy swish anyway as she settled back down onto the ground. What looked like magical pixie dust floated out and through the air, settling over Cerb's group in a soft, misty veil. Almost instantly, Cerb removed her Sparkymuffs and blinked a few times in confusion. The Jiggly was still singing, right, but...the sound seemed muffled. Almost like it lost the soporific quality it had. Good enough for her!

"Und nao...for phase two." Which involved waking her little sleeping buggers up. But just to make sure she wouldn't get steamrolled in the process, Cerb reached onto her belt and threw out a fully conscious Pokemon to guard them from harm. It was a good time to get to know her new Nidoqueen, anyway. "Stall tactics, Antigone."

The Nidoqueen appeared under the protection of the Safeguard and looked over at her new prey, this little pink puffball. Just crushing it would have been so much easier, but apparently her trainer wanted it alive. Antigone huffed, sucking air into her throat before she spat out a series of little poisonous needles for the Jigglypuff and give it something else to think about besides singing.

In the meantime, Cerb was in the background behind the Nidoqueen, shaking the rest of her Pokemon back into consciousness through various means.

Once that mist was airborne, everything was more or less good with the world. There wasn't much to be heard from the sleepymusic, and hey, everyone was slowly starting to wake up! This battle would more or less be Pixie and Antigone versus Opaddekan Idol over there.

The two poisonous stings, rapidly fired out at the Jigglypuff, hurt it and hurt it bad Antigone was a big bad Nidoqueen and she had a heck of a lot of power behind her. The darts both managed to get into the Jigglypuff's bloodstream and that meant only bad things were happening for the little puffball. The toxins flowed throughout its body and wracked it with pain.

What did most things do when in pain? Scream. Loudly. And with a voice that could kill a man, this Jigglypuff needed to not scream-

Too late.

The voice rang out clearly through the skies, a screeching, near-inaudible sound that crated at ears and was so powerful it sent shockwaves through the air. But those shockwaves were basically nothing to Antigone. She was too big, too powerful. And while the poisons continued to kick in, the Jigglypuff was in some serious trouble. What did it do, though? Curl itself up to try and reduce some hurt from the attacks. But was it too little, too late?

Behind her barrier of brute Nidoqueen force, Cerb was busy gently shaking and convincing Sparky to wake the heck up. She let Wendigo slumber on the pavement, since his services of protection were being covered at the moment by Antigone. "C'mon rodent, rise'n shine," she grumbled, tugging on the Pikachu's tail. Sparky's eyes flickered open, before a static discharge rolled down his fur and right into her hand. Cerb yelped and almost dropped him, juggling the irritable rodent as he squeaked some Pokemon profanities at her.

Pixie, meanwhile, had roused further and padded over to peep around Antigone at the ailing Jigglypuff, which suddenly decided to inflate its lungs and scream. The fox wailed and pinned her ears back, hiding behind the bulk of the Nidoqueen. Not one to be daunted by her prey, Antigone opened her jaws and roared back, her tail giving a lash that nearly flattened Pixie and cracked the pavement. In the background, Cerb was clutching at her head, which had gone into a full blown splitting headache.

"I think my ears are bleeding," she whimpered, to which Sparky concurred. "Gotta finish this quick... go help Pixie immobilize it," The Pikachu leaped down from her arms and padded over to stand next to the Vulpix, shivering near the ground with her paws over her head. It took a moment, but the two managed to pop out another combo of deadly statuses at the curled up Jigglypuff. A small wave of static, followed by a thin stream of harsh blue fire floated out from around Antigone's leg at their target. The Nidoqueen huffed and shifted her bulk on the pavement, ears smarting slightly from all the screeching.

As a positive note, Cerb couldn't help but notice all the noise seemed to have waken up Wendigo. The Snorunt was blinking from where he lay on the sidewalk as she scuttled over, Park ball in hand to lob it at the puffball and end all their suffering. "I sure hope this works," she muttered, remembering back to the Staraptor. Darn bird had broken free the first time.

Someone wanted to put the hurt on this Jigglypuff. Must've wanted it pretty badly. That much was to be expected if this trainer who seemed a little bit on the batty side wanted a male Jigglypuff. Why a male Jigglypuff even exists is beyond the universe's logic, but there you have it, it's got malebits.

And in the end, what was it that happened?

The Jigglypuff was assaulted by a constant stream, a barrage if you like, of attacks. There was an inevitability that all of them would hit; paralysis, poisoning and burning simultaneously would be a crippling affliction that would scar the poor Jigglypuff for the rest of its life. It staggered on one of its puffy little feet, stumbling about as it tried to control its body from the pain and inability to move. It didn't go well.

It fell on its back, unable to stand; its body was being wracked by all these afflictions. it tried to scream, but it couldn't even move its mouth. Rigor mortis, or something similar, was setting in and now it had to deal with the after-effects of that. The Park Ball flew through the air, taking the pink creature into its shell, before setlling on the ground and stopping. And, as usual, it vanished.

One more captured Pokémon - but a mentally-scarred one. That would remember this.

Male Jigglypuff probably exist because male Lopunny do. Ah, ain't nature great.

Luckily, contest prize Pokemon don't have anger included, or so it is thought. The idea wasn't crossing Cerb's mind at the moment, mostly because of a dull ringing in her ears that was interfering with her auditory systems in general. The teen blearily shook her head a few times, much like a dog shaking off water or a swimmer with water in their ears. Except this wasn't coming out and the ringing didn't stop, which gave off a bit of the feeling that her head was full of cotton. At least that's not a new phenomena.

"Good job guys," she said, a little more loudly than normal due to being half deaf from the screaming Hyper Voice. Her Pokemon didn't notice, perhaps they were still a bit stunned from the noise too. "Good walling, Antigone." She patted the Nidoqueen on the arm while the blue Pokemon just grunted, before withdrawing her back into her ball. Antigone was a bit of a last resort type of Pokemon, and having a Nidoqueen out with her wouldn't attract the kind of attention she wanted.

Well now, that ordeal was over. Cerb picked up Sparky and sat him on her shoulder, petted Pixie a few times to get her to stop shivering, then walked over and scraped Wendigo off the sidewalk from where he was still coming out of dreamland. The Snorunt sleepily huffed a frosty breath all over the front of her jacket, then stretched his little arms and yawned. The teen ignored his antics for the moment, standing and looking around, thinking what to do next. She could still see water in the distance, thus the direction of the docks. There were water types on her proverbial menu, so was it possible she could find some here? Best not to press her luck, considering the Jigglypuff. But the water was peaceful and it would be somewhat quieter over there, where she could recover from her bleeding eardrums. "To the water," she mumbled, walking off in the direction of the docks with Pixie trotting behind her.

The docks were surprisingly crowded. Cerb saw two people mauling a Poliwhirl and someone out in the water with a Milotic, before she skittered away from all of them to a place that was more isolated and had less fighting. The waves lapped peacefully up against the dock here as she sat down a few feet from the edge, settling Wendigo on her lap and Sparky still on her shoulder. The water made Pixie nervous, and the Vulpix sat behind her trainer's back to protect herself from the spray. Cerb wasn't actively fishing or anything, just watching and waiting for her eardrums to recover. If something popped up to say hello/eat them, that was their business.

As you and your Pokemon laid out on the beach, recovering from the Jigglypuff ordeal, you would notice that there are two strange red light spots dancing on the surface of the water. Whatever could that be? *gasps* Could it be a light show?

More lights soon joined the two red ones. Now you are witnessing two big red spots on the surface of the water along with several smaller ones. For a moment there, it seemed as if they are getting bigger. Then you realized that they are indeed getting bigger. Why are they getting bigger?

The red light spots got bigger until, all of a sudden, they disappeared. For a few minutes, nothing happened. Could you be seeing things? Maybe.

Or not.

The surface of the water broke, and you could see a Tentacruel...walking towards you on its tentacles. It waved the other tentacles that are not occupied with walking towards you, and a trio of Tentacools appeared from the shallow water to approach you on their two tentacles.

Their eyes are all bloodshot red, and they all had a dangerous glint to them. Could they be plotting your demise at their hands, or rather, tentacles?

Oh crap. It's like War of the Worlds but instead of Martians, we have Tentathings. Rising up out of the water.

Cerb's eyeballs bugged right out of her head and plopped down on the dock.

"Pika pika!" Sparky had seen his trainer go through far too much tentacle rape in her lifetime. The Tentacool were small fry, but the Tentacruel might make an interesting prize if they managed to catch it. The Pikachu powered up, sparks flying from his fur before he released two massive bolts of electricity out at two of the Tentacool walking on the water. The fact that they were indeed standing on the wet surface practically ensured conductivity and their eventual demise. The Pikachu didn't even really care.

The bright flash jolted Cerb back into reality, and the danger she and her Pokemon were facing. Sparky was guaranteed to fry a few of those critters no problem, so she scraped herself and her eyeballs up off the dock and ran back towards the buildings to get some distance. Distance to think, put some plans in motion. Darn tentacle monsters jumping her now.

"Tentacles, why always tentacles," a brief flash, and a very weary - looking Delphi appeared and blinked blearily at the jellyfish Pokemon standing out on the water a distance away. "I know you're tired Delphi, but try and take the last Tentacool out?"

Oh bleaugh at you. Seeing as Cerb was still holding up her ball for a quick recall once her task was done, the Absol sighed and whipped up a quick, sharp wind before she sent a purple psychic slice arcing out from her horn to pick off the third and last Tentacool out on the water. Cerb was quick to depress the button on the ball and recalled her weakened Absol, not taking any chances with losing her to crazed tentacle monsters.

"Now, one left," theoretically. The big bad boss - daddy Tentacruel. Cerb nudged Wendigo with her foot, "Keep us shielded." The Snorunt prepared to erect his barrier of Can't Touch This should the Tentacruel try anything. As a last measure for the time being, the teen looked down to Pixie, hiding behind her knees. "You know what to do, gal."

"Vul!" The Vulpix sucked in air and spat out a ball of intense blue fire, which wafted almost lazily through the air to its target. This was followed by a ball of hypnotic purple light, which also wafted lazily over and popped right in front of the Tentacruel's face in a shower of sparkles.

Now that all that was done, Cerb, Pixie, and Sparky all huddled behind Wendigo and waited to see what would happen next. What with the Snorunt having his shiny barrier of Can't Touch This and all.

Right.

Let's try and summarise what went down here, 'cause I'm sure as hell not going to give you a pretty description as well as work out who damages what and for how much in this orgy of fighting. Below is a set of bullet points, each explaining exactly what happened and in what order:

Order of play: Tentacruel, Sparky, Delphi, Tentacool, Pixie, Wendigo.

1) Tentacruel acts first, having won the initiative roll. He sees Wendigo at the front of the band of critters and lets rip with an attack. It doesn't matter which one, it gets neutered by Protect. Realising its attack did nothing, it chickens out and hides behind a mystical barrier like a little bitch.

2) Sparky pops out from behind Wendigo and says hi. He then goes all Raiden on the gelatinous asses of two tentacled lackeys. Thanks to my policy of going with max damage to make things slightly less head-smackingly complicated, they get fried. 0.7 :exp for each party member, including Delphi.

3) Delphi pops out from behind Wendigo and says hi. She then goes all Kill Bill on the gelatinous ass of the remaining tentacled lackey. Thanks to Absol having an insanely high attack, the Tentacool gets sliced up real nice. 0.3 :exp for each party member, including Delphi.

4) Cerby recalls Delphi. Nothing much happens.

5) Pixie pops out from behind Wendigo and says hi. She then goes all Pyro on the considerably larger gelatinous ass of the Tentacruel. Said Tentacruel becomes confused from all this surprise attacking, and somehow gets horribly burned, despite being like 99% water.

6) Wendigo says hi.

7) Tentacruel takes some burn damage.

There you go. The arena looks much tidier now that half of the pokémon fighting have gone away. Enjoy.

.4 :gexp for dealing with this awful mess so awesomely.

Suddenly, the field looked a whole lot emptier. Empty was good, because now Cerb could focus more clearly on the enemy hiding behind his barrier and how best to knock him out. It would take a bit of care, some more statuses, and a thorough weakening. Her dealings with the Staraptor had taught her this much. Catching evolved Pokemon was a tricky business, because they were tough little bastards.

"Might as well finish the status repertoire... Thunder Wave," she muttered to Sparky. The Pikachu bristled and bzzt'd, sending the stream of static out to lock up the tentacle monster's tentacles. "And we already used Protect, so we need a new wall... Everybody who can split, split."

Sparky nodded and split himself into a wall of clones that stood in front of the group of Pokemon and trainer. He was joined by Wendigo, who was still ready to use the unreliable Protect as necessary. Now that she had her clone wall to hide behind, Cerb reached for Delphi's ball again and withdrew it to release the Absol. Delphi gave her a 'you got to be kidding me' look. I thought you said -

"Sorrysorry, but it's hiding like a bitch and Pixie won't be strong enough to weaken it sufficiently," the teen explained quickly to the unamused dark Pokemon. "Just one slice, and then you go back in."

Oh the things I do for you. Delphi planted her paws and slung her head around, whipping the blade of purple energy out to smash against the barrier the Tentacruel had erected. Cerb was true to her word, pressing the button on the ball and withdrawing Delphi once her task was complete. One last thing to do, to prevent unwanted statuses on her own side of the field.

"Another safeguard, I think," she addressed the fox, standing at her side. "And then a bit of mindcrush if it isn't weakened enough." Pixie nodded, her tails giving a graceful swish to release the shimmering dust into the air. Cerb didn't want any of her Pokemon getting poisoned by this thing, since only two had some sort of recovery moves to use and poison would just be awful. Now behind two layers of double team and two Pokemon, one with an additional unreliable shield, the teen waited to see what would happen next, Park ball in hand. If it was sufficiently weakened, off it would go, flying to smack into the tentacle monster.

Tentacruel was still quite fast, and as such, it was able to react quickest again. Taking aim at Pixie, it moved to blast some water at the fox for daring to give it such a nasty burn...

... and promptly smacked itself in the face with a stray tentacle. Well, that sucked. It tried again, this time managing to let off a Water Pulse that was forceful enough to take down the Vulpix right there. Confusion was a useful tactic, certainly, but it only kicked in half the time.

Sparky was swift to exact revenge, spouting some savage static over the squishy sea beast. Ew, 'leccy. Then came some Double Teams, and then Delphi got in on the act, going all Kill Bill again. It didn't do as much as before, due to that barrier the Tentacruel set up last round, but it was still felt. Wendigo ended up not having to use Protect, since he wasn't the target of any attacks, and Delphi got recalled again as planned.

Tentacruel then took another hit from that burn. Not quite into the critical zone yet, though that burn damage was really starting to make a difference. Add in the paralysis, and that was one mighty crippled Tentacruel.

Well hell. Cerb scooped her poor sodden Fox up into her Pokeball so she wouldn't be further molested by just lying there on the field, minimizing the ball and tucking it into her pocket so it wouldn't get mixed up in the others on her belt. Pixie had done remarkably well for the encounters they'd been through, and she was proud of the little furball. But no time for mourning now, do it later when the Tentacruel was out of their face and tucked away in a PC somewhere.

"Needs more weakening. Carefully, Sparky," she told the Pikachu clones, who all nodded with an affirmative chitter, before streaks of thin lightning shot up and over towards the Tentacruel, who was looking mighty unhappy. The only thing it had going for it was the barrier, but hopefully that wouldn't matter soon enough when Pixie's burn damage kicked in. Even KO'd, the Fox was continuing to harass her prey.

Wendigo continued to be his own clone wall with a potential shield in case that Tentacruel happened to hit one of them next. Cerb was thoughtfully bouncing a park ball in her hand, watching the tentacle monster for a moment before eventually just lobbing it hard at the bastard to see if it would stick. She still had plenty of these left, and there wasn't much more time left in the contest anyway. Might as well bring home a big nasty jelly blob.

Tentacruel was in a bad way. Now too slow to strike first, he could do nothing except take Sparky's punishment. It brought the tentacled one to the brink of unconsciousness, prime for capturing.

Now, because I can't think of anything descriptive to type at this point, you threw the Park Ball and sucked in the injured Tentacruel. Even with all the statuses and damage, there was still only a coin flip chance of success.

What do you know, it actually worked. Cerb stared with a bit of shock at the wiggling ball, before it dinged and vanished off into the wonders of the internet. Even Sparky and Wendigo seemed a bit surprised as their makeshift clone wall fizzled out of existence, leaving the two original Pokemon standing there.

"...well that was interesting, hunh?" After looking around for more signs of tentacle monsters, Cerb leaned down and lifted Sparky onto her shoulder, picking up Wendigo in her arms. Pixie was unfortunately missing from her little group, which made the trio feel a bit broken up. There were supposed to be four. D:

She walked away from the water, heading into the city until they'd reached a point where there was nothing but an empty intersection surrounding them. With two extra pairs of eyes watching for danger, Cerb took stock of the Pokemon she had left. Sparky and Wendigo were fine, Rage unused, Antigone a bit bruised, and Delphi still badly battered. It was risky to use the Absol against anything unless she did it very carefully, as with their recent battle. Though, they only had a few more hours in this contest...no reason not to pull out all the stops.

"Guess it depends on the next Pokemon that jumps out at us," she sighed, beginning to walk across the intersection with her armful of Pokemon. Ho hum, business as usual.
