The sun shone down brightly as he entered the vicinity of Brightopolis. It certainly was bright, and a rather large city at that. It was a wonder that anyone was able to get around without getting lost. Clint squinted his eyes and he brought a hand up to create a bill-like shade for his eyes, looking around and frowning slightly. He had received a message that there was a contest of sorts going on in Brightopolis. He figured it would be a good chance to see new Pokemon and perhaps capture a new one for his party. A soft sigh passed his lips as he wiped a bit of sweat from his brow, looking around curiously and eying the area. Upon entering the city, he had received pokeballs that were specific for the event. He allowed his eyes to gaze upon the sphere, which reflected the sun beautifully and with such beauty came determination. Determination to capture a Pokemon that was powerful and beneficial to his team, as well as willing to do what was right when the time came.

Clint pulled one of the pokeballs from his belt and tossed it up, calling out his newest Pokemon, a Zubat he had named Faros. The bat was named after a planet in his solar system that was known for its strange and incredible creatures, including a bat-like species that fed on entire creatures rather than just blood. The man looked up at the creature as he flew about rather clumsily, his wings flapping quickly but occasionally he dipped dangerously low to the ground before pulling up swiftly. Faros gave a couple soft squeaks, sending out sound waves to get a good view of his surroundings before flapping to Clint and landing clumsily against his shoulder. The trainer laughed softly and looked at the Pokemon with a smile. "Well, Faros. I'll be testing out your abilities today in the contest. So, are you prepared to show me what you've got?" He asked, his tone friendly and determined, allowing the Zubat to know that Clint was counting on him. The bat gave a nod of understanding and fluttered his wings to get himself straightened up on his trainer's shoulder, folding his wings over his torso and waiting for the first Pokemon to appear.

If Clint McHale was the first, then logically he would get the best choice out of the Pokémon that were available in this city. He was, in fact, the very first trainer to have the fortune to sign up, and that would mean all kinds of baddies would be coming out to get him. After all, these things were going crazy with the effects of the virus, and that meant they were going to need to be stopped.

This was a war. A war between humans and Pokémon.

A Zubat would be a good choice; confounding one's foe was a legitimate battle tactic, and Faros would probably need to use that a lot in the coming engagements. Would there be something that wished to kill the human and his companion? Perhaps. This wasn't going to be by any means easy, and Faros and Clint would need to stick together in order to survive the imminent onslaught of wild beasts that roamed the city.

And lo! There came something, sprinting right for Clint, wielding a club as if it were brandishing a sword. A Cubone, ready, its face shielded by its mask, very much prepared to assault the two with its long-dead bone weapon. The battle would be joined immediately, and there would be no holding back from the creature whose eyes were burning with a red ring around the outside.

Ah, PokéRUS. What will it do next?

Clint's eyes fell upon the beast that was brandishing a bone like a sword, and his eyes widened. Having no time to check the pokedex for information on this Pokemon, he shrugged the shoulder that Faros was perched upon. The bat took to the air at the nudge and shrieked quickly a few times, finding the target with its sonic waves. His blue eyes looked up at the bat and he smiled, nodding with a sense of determination. Faros would be a good Pokemon for him, and in the end he would prove useful to be on his team. And, all things considered, this incoming Pokemon could also prove useful to him. Especially with that bone that it was wielding. Such a thing would certainly hurt if it were to hit.

"Alright, get in close for a Wing Attack, and when you hit it, use Supersonic to try and confuse it!" Clint called out, eyes turning back to the ground type as it charged at him still. The man's fists clenched and he hoped for the best for Faros. The Zubat's wings flapped quickly and his body tilted downward, swooping down at the incoming Cubone and getting ready to do as his trainer commanded. Dealing damage was his main priority, at least until he could weaken the Pokemon enough to capture it. Confusing it would give him a better chance of capture without having to worry too much about Faros getting attacked. A smile spread across his lips and confidence was evident in his posture and eyes.

Your Zubat was a wee bit faster than the Cubone, thusly giving him an edge. While the Cubone charged in, brandishing its bone, the bat dove at it with wings wide open. The Cubone tried to strike at the bat with its bone, but narrowly missed as the bat merely sidetracked out of the way. The wings managed to clip the brown dinosaur right on the belly, causing it to cry out loud in intense pain.

The bat swerved about after a fit of hard flapping, and sent out some waves that pulsed into the brain. At first, it seemed to have no effect on the Cubone as it was getting up after the attack. However, the confusion was evident as it began staggering about.

Hey, the bat's coming in for another attack! The Cubone tried to club at the bat that he thought he saw, and ended up hitting itself on the skull. Ouch.

Clint's eyes watched the battle with an intensity of sorts, quite enjoying the aerial patterns with which Faros flew after he had gotten the hang of it. He was an inexperienced flier, one might assume, but once he got into the groove of it, he was able to pull off some pretty tricky maneuvers. When the Cubone missed the first initial strike and was struck in the gut, Clint thought the creature might keel over then and there. But it looked up with even more determination, even after being hit with the Supersonic attack and becoming confused. Then came the nearly skuill-crushing blow to itself in the head, causing it to stumble back a bit. Perhaps Clint had been too hard on it...and when he looked up to Faros, he just seemed to fly in place, waiting for the next orders.

The small wings of the bat made flapping sounds in the wind, the leathery webbing keeping him afloat with each flap. With a slight turn of his head, Faros looked over his "shoulder" and down in the direction where Clint had been when he'd last done a sonic wave to figure out his surroundings. The trainer was thinking, and he had to do so quickly. "Alright. Use Astonish, try to make it flinch. We don't want it trying to do anything and end up having you get hurt, Faros." The man said with a smile, glancing up at the Zubat, who nodded in understanding, sending one sonic wave out before diving down in the direction of the Cubone. Astonish worked to try and frighten a Pokemon that was being opposed, therefore dealing small amounts of damage and in the process having a chance of making them flinch. This would be an excellent tactic. And so, Clint removed one of the Park Balls from the pouch at his waist that he had been given, expanding it and looking down at the sphere, waiting until Faros was finished attack before throwing the pokeball forward with quite a bit of force.

As with the young pokemon, tactics are best opposed to strength that hasn't yet developed. Astonish was one such tactic, having a chance to render the opponent helpless before its not-so-obvious-might.

Zubat was one of the best Astonishers, and carried out his orders to the letter. Both attacks were successful hits, and at least one of them caused what you were looking for. The ground type could simply sit on the ground, shaking its head while it tried to regain any form of combobulation that it could.

Unfortunately, it was all too late, as the specialized sphere collided with its head, causing even more confusion.

After only one wiggle, the ball locked shut, signalling the victorious capture of legend. Or something to that effect.

.2 :gexp (Err...partial exp for the capture?)

As the ball thwacked the Cubone right in the skull, it absorbed the poor, unsuspecting ground type and it wiggled once before the rewarding "ding" rang into the air. Clint smiled and walked over to retrieve the ball. He was sure this was the Pokemon he would keep, but for now, he would do his part to capture and retrieve any and all Pokemon that appeared before him. After all, this was a contest to capture as many pokemon as possible. He would get nowhere if he simply defeated them. Having to sweep up a bunch of dead or unconscious creatures would cause nothing but problems. And he was here to put a stop to problems.

Faros gave another inaudible screech, surveying his surroundings before swooping down to cling to his companion's shoulder, nearly falling off in the process. With a quick shake of his head, the Zubat's large ears flopped about before straightening right back up and it looked forward, mouth gaping open with razor sharp fangs displayed. Clint eyed the fangs momentarily and smiled, "Great job, Faros. I knew I could depend on you." He chuckled and reached up to stroke a finger across the bat's head, causing him to lean up into it with a happy sigh. And so, Clint continued his trek through the city landscape, searching for Pokemon that might be causing trouble.

.2 :gexp Faros gains 1.2 partial :exp for the battle.

In battle, yes, Faros was dependable. In hunting down other Pokémon to be captured, not so much. In fact, it was almost a shame how long it took the blind Zubat to locate another Pokémon to engage in battle with. Naturally, it wasn't going to come easy. And, hey, surrounded by bloodthirsty monsters wasn't necessarily the best of places to be.

Instead, though, there was another place that Clint and Faros would find themselves - close to the sea, through their ambling. As such, the creatures more dedicated to the ocean's breezes could be heard making their noises here, in addition to the other creatures that were around. In this particular case, the cawing of a Wingull could be heard, and then the flapping of wings and-

Mist. A sudden sheet of haze permeated the air, making it difficult to sea as the scent of salt and sea flew up into the nostrils, making it pellucidly clear that there was a seabird nearby. Where, exactly, could not be seen through the masking airs. It could almost be heard by Faros, but not quite.

A phantom Wingull, huh? Things were about to get very, very fun.

Not to mention the fact that the sound of dripping water could be heard to Clin's left. A methodical sound.

Drip.

Drip.

Drip.
