After much contemplation, Elizabeth had decided not to attempt the Rose Town gym just yet. She only had a team of four at the moment and her newest partner, Tyson a Tyrogue wasn't strong enough to face the gym. So she was now departing the town that'd been her home for the last week and setting out through the forest enroute to Mayriver. Mayriver sold fishing rods, something Liz would need if she wanted to catch more water types, and a water gym, Tansy ought to do well against a water gym. Traveling along the edge of the forest and grasslands would hopefully provide her with more opportunities to find Pokemon to train against or capture.

As always Tansy was at Liz's side looking much stronger than when they'd left Hillmoss. The Bulbasaur bobbed her head to an unheard tune in her head glad to be on the road again. While their time in Rose Town had proven interesting she'd been getting a bit antsy. With Chani now cooperating with Liz and with a baby on the way, it was definitely time to be moving along.

Liz cradled the small bluish egg in her arms. She beamed with pride that her parents, Professor Willow and Nurse Joy had all felt it best she care for it. Liz had never handled an egg or a baby Pokemon before. She was excited for the day it would hatch and her new Squirtle would join the ranks. For now she would keep the egg safe from harm and knew her four teammates would as well.

"Keey an eye out for any electric type Pokemon ok Tansy? We could use the extra boost against the water gym." Tansy nodded, keeping a wary eye open though the forest remained silent and nothing in the grasslands stirred. Liz wondered if the Pokemon had beaten themselves senseless due to the PokeRus. Still beneath the bows of the forest anything could jump out at them. The Bulbasaur periodically shot a slew of leaves forward to cut back any overgrowth and to perhaps startle any hidden Pokemon.

Long Term Travel Plan: Forest of Fury (Vicious Vines 2) -> Malral District -> Murmur Valley (Mist Valley -> Sinklands -> Soggy Hillside) -> Sanded Grasslands (Healthy Field) -> Mayriver City

Present Route: Vicious Vines 2 -> Malral District

Looking for: Electric Pokemon

The Forest of Fury, the forest that actually exhibits hate towards humans. You can actually feel the hate coming from the trees and the vines that threatened to drop and slash at you with their prickly thorns. Coming into the forest while the PokeRUS virus was abound was not a very good idea, for it makes the place even more dangerous.

The thing is, the forest hates humans so much, the hate materializes into the form of the Pokemon living in the forest. They will be more than happy to ambush you when you least expect it, and tear you to shreds. Fortunately for you, not even the forest was immune to the flow of trainers that came to defeat the wild Pokemon for experience. As such, there is an empty feel of hate in the air.

You will not find any wild Pokemon at all unless you head into a town or city. Instead, you will battle trainers!

Speaking of trainers, you hear some crashing and yelling beyond some trees a wee bit to your right. A yelp of pain, and out among the throny vines appeared a lean and gaunt man. There are some scratches on his bony arms, legs, and face. He lost his balance, and fell face-flat on the ground. "Owies", he murmured.

He lifted his face, and saw you. He quickly got up to his full height, which is quite tall compared to yours. He towered over you. He had an appearance of a skeleton. The only difference he had compared to a skeleton is that he actually had skin, brown eyes, steel-grey hair, an oversized jaw, and huge, HUGE hands. Makes you wonder what kind of birth defect he has.

He pointed one of those gigantic hands towards you. "You! Did not see anything!" Pulling a Pokeball out, he said, "Battle me, Stannis! One on one! No switching! Two thousand zenni!" He did not wait for you to respond. Instead, he threw the ball to the ground. A Stantler appeared. The deer snorted and pawed the ground, eager for battle.

The man waved at you impatiently. "Well, where's your Pokemon?" Brief, and to the point. He did not seem too bright, and downright rude.

You have encounted: Stannis!

Liz shivered from the hate filled waves radiating from the forest and cuddled the tiny egg closer. She was glad she hadn't attempted going any deeper. While she might have come across some unique Pokemon, putting herself and her Pokemon purposefully in danger didn't seem wise. Still this was the fastest route to Malral. It was eerily quiet, Liz wondered what had happened to all the Pokemon. Not even a Swellow stirred in the sky. Getting out of this forest as fast as possible became her main priority.

Yet she wasn't to be so lucky as to pass through here without disruption. Sudden activity in the dark wood caused her and Tansy to tense themselves readying for whatever was approaching. The cries sounded distant and eerie like that of some unseen monster. Trainer and Pokemon waited warily until a figure broke from the brush covered with faint scratches and a wild look in his eye. For a moment Liz thought he was some sort of monster as he seemed so skeletal. And before she or Tansy could react he had spotted them.

Great, he was a trainer and a bit mad at that it seemed. Two thousand zenni?! Liz hadn't made nearly that much from her brief job in Rose Town and if she lost she'd lose all the zenni she had. Yet if she did win, that kind of dough would last her awhile. She pursed her lips, eying the man as she scanned his Stantler with her Pokedex. It was about the level of Chani and it was possible she could completely over power it with Loki. Yet if the ghost chose to ignore her it would make things difficult. Liz glanced down to Tansy and nodded. The grass type had already stepped forward. Her gaze narrowed at the deer and she readied herself.

"So be it. I, Elizabeth, accept. Tansy, Leech Seed with Poisonpowder! And be ready for anything." Liz instructed, gaze flicking to meet that of Stannis. She just hoped that she could win this round. Tansy was a lot stronger this time and had a wider variety of abilities at her disposal. Here's to hoping their training in Rose Town paid off.

Tansy leapt into the air much higher than one might imagine from the little bulb and shot a tiny seed toward the Stantler sending a shower of purple spores after it. She came back to alight on the ground ready to defend against whatever the Stantler threw at her.

0.3 :gexp I'm going to try something different here.

POKEMON BATTLE WATCH!!!!

Welcome to Pokemon Battle Watch, where we take a gander at all sorts of Pokemon battles that involve trainers! I am your host, DF! Without further ado, let's begin the Pokemon Battle Watch show!

<cheers and applause>

Here in Pokemon Battle Watch, we take a look at various battles that involve trainers, and choose the one that looks interesting! The topic for this show is a battle between two trainers! Now that is something that you don't come across to often! What are the names of these trainers, you ask me?

*points to TV that displays your battle*

Our heroine over there is known as Elizabeth, and the skeleton man over there is Stannis! And it's her Bulbasaur versus his Stantler! Oh, my, how exciting! What about the rest of you?

<roar of agreement>

Oh! It looks like the battle is starting! Oh? The skeleton man seemed to say something, but I can't hear what he just said! Can anybody tell me what he just said?

<Somebody in the audience shouted, "He said, 'Stomp it flat!'", amongst murmurs of agreement>

Oh-ho! Did he really? That does not sound very...exciting, now does it? And the reindeer did just that, slamming his hoof right on the face of the little weed! Ouch, that's gotta hurt!

<murmurs of empathy from the audience>

And, the Bulbasaur is down! In one hit, wow! No wait, it's moving! Looks like our heroine's Pokemon still has a bit of fight left in it. And now, the Stantler raised it's hoof, and is about to finish it with another stomp! Oh noes!

<a gasp from the audience>

Here comes the hoof! Crash! And now, there's this dust that's preventing us from seeing what's going on there! While the dust settles, let's talk about what just happened here. Our heroine, Elizabeth, may have trained her Pokemon hard to take numerous hits, but I bet that she was not prepared for the off chance of a critcal hit. Which had just happened with the first stomp! Let this be a lesson to those of you who are watching this show. Always expect the unexpected!

Oh, looks like the dust is clearing out! Let's see, there's the Stantler, standing right there. Annnnnnd, underneath the hoof is...dirt? Where is the Bulbasaur? Oh, there it is! Seems like the Bulbasaur managed to roll out of the way in the nick of a time!

<a collective sigh of relief from the audience>

And now, the Stantler removed its hoof from where it stomped the ground, and faced the Bulbasaur. And out from the ground where the Stantler had just stomped the ground sprouted some vines that surrounded themselves all over the reindeer, and began saping it of its energies! What a clever Leech Seed move! And now the Bulbasaur is adding to its miseries with some Poison Powder!

<cheers and applause while the TV shuts off>

Well that's it for today's show, folks! Thank you for watching the Pokemon Battle Watch show! I am your host, DF, and I wish you all good luck on your battling!

Damn that Stantler hits hard. Liz had hoped Tansy could endure a few more hits from the deer but it seemed she was just too slow. They'd have to work on that. Tansy shook her head trying to gain back her senses. A large red lump was visible on her head and just looking at it could cause one to wince. Still she didn't back down. Liz wondered if she should take this time to use a potion on Tansy or if her Leech Seed would restore any of her health.

Yet it was risky but she could see a change come over Tansy as her eyes held a strange glow to them. The little bulb was going into overdrive now. But would she be fast enough to get in a hit before the Stantler? Liz grit her teeth, if she lost she'd be broke and they'd have to return to Rose Town and the Pokemon Center. Tansy glared at the Stantler. One big attack might finish it off, but if the Stantler got in any sort of attack Tansy would most likely be unable to continue battling. And Tansy's attack was slightly weakened.

"Hang in there Tans..." Liz muttered. They would have to act fast, yet speed wasn't Tansy's forte. Man I'm so stupid, why would I ever wager two thousand zenni?! Liz sighed trying to ignore her thoughts. There was little hope for the battle with Tansy in this state. After some thought Liz called Tansy to her side and retrieved a Potion from her pack. Stannis never said they couldn't use potions. While Tansy being in overdrive might give them an edge it was just too early for it. The trainer applied the potion and Tansy raced back onto the field feeling stronger. Though this delay had probably given Stannis and his Stantler plenty of time to strike first, still they probably would've struck first anyway.

"Alright Tansy no more fooling around. Let's get you a bit of an edge, use Growth then try to keep that Stantler from anymore stomping by using your Vine Whip to wrap up those legs nice and tight. Try to swing it into the trees while you've got it wrapped." It was a long shot, and a long list of commands but Liz spoke fast and Tansy reacted immediately. As she shot her vines toward the Stantler her bulb glowed and actually seemed to grow. Please, please work. Liz clenched her fists, Tansy had regained some health with that potion but would it be enough? If that Stantler was able to hit first it just might get another critical hit. Liz could only hope Tansy would be able to get a hold of that deer.

That One Karate Guy
.3 :gexp So you know, item usage takes up your whole post. Just as in the games, you sacrifice your turn to use the items. Normally if you do use the items, the enemy gets another attack, as per usual.

Stannis was a smart man who knew how to battle with the creatures we call Pokιmon. In this Forest of Fury, he'd learned how to snatch victory from anywhere. And while items were allowed in this battle, so too was attacking an opponent who was in the middle of using items.

"Zen Headbutt!"

That was bad news for poor little Tansy. While she was recovering from the effect of the potion, this Stantler was capitalizing on the fact that the Bulbasaur was weak to the Psychic-type. And what an attack it would be! The top of the Stantler's head started glowing a bluish-white, taking on an almost glass-like appearance as it focused its thoughts. And then the Stantler charged forwards as the Bulbasaur was catching its second wind, slamming its thought-coated head into the little Grass/Poison-type and sending it flying backwards.

And what a world of hurt that was!

"Now follow it up!"

With it still in close, the Stantler - which was, unfortunately, faster than Tansy the Bulbasaur - stomped its foot down on the already-injured creature, following up its headbutt with a stomp. Such a primal way of fighting, but whatever worked was best, and for once, it worked for this guy.

Tansy was out. And someone was now going to be short two thousand Zenni. A real shame, but that was the way the cookie crumbled. Items in the midst of a battle were not a good idea, for they sacrificed much-needed time. Yes, the Stantler was still poisoned and Leech Seeded, and it was recalled to try and offset some of that, but nonetheless: Stannis had won. And he wasn't holding that fact back.

"Victory is mine!"

Liz could only watch in horror as the Stantler attacked without mercy. She knew she should've just hit him hard and fast while Tansy had an edge. Trainer battles were quickly becoming her weak point. With a sad sigh she set down her pack slipping her egg inside. Then she lifted the pack securing it snuggly before she lifted Tansy's unconscious form into her arms. She cradling the injured Pokemon giving her a sad but proud smile. Tansy had done her best, she always did. The lost wasn't her fault but Liz's. Her gray gaze flicked reluctantly to Stannis.

"Congrats. So I don't have two thousand zenni on hand. If you want to come with me back to Rose Town I'll get you your winnings from the bank. Though I think I can do it via PokeNav too." She just hoped that whatever had accumulated in her bank account would cover the fee. If not he'd probably want items or something as well. Liz had underestimated the Stantler and overestimated Tansy. She'd have to be smarter than that next time. Liz had thought she'd learned her lesson the first time.

Loki, crazy as he was, would've been a much better match against the deer not to mention he was several levels higher too. But she didn't want to win her matches by completely over powering her opponent. She looked over at the male expectantly, waiting to see what he wanted to do.

Item use does not take a whole turn. You can use an unlimited amount of moves in a post, but when using items, we use the old two-moves-a-turn rules: one item, one move. Item always goes first.

Gen.EXP; 0.3 - What Fordy said. The battle decision is to remain the same.
-------------

Listening to her response, Stannis raised his eyebrow for a moment. No money? Well, that was fine. "I'll take the equivalent to two thousand zenni," he said definitively, "I don't have time to stop in at a town! There are trainers to battle all around." His bony hand pet his stantler as the hooved pokemon walked over to him, projecting to him a list of items that his opponent had on her, just to make sure she was telling the truth. "Stantler here says that you've got enough items to break even, if we go by the prices at the Supermalls."

Excluding taxes, of course.

Scratching his stantler's chin, he thought for a moment and named off the items Liz could give him for his rightful prize. Although, not even for a moment, did it appear as if Stannis would admit that it was a good battle - even for the sportsmanship of it all. "So, we going to stand here all day, or are we gettin' on with our lives?" He leaned against his stantler, who was considerably shorter than him, and waited.

The stantler eyed him for a moment, before shaking his head a bit. As much as he loved his trainer, sometimes he just had that urge to kick him where it hurts, just to show him who should be leaning on who. But of course, he restrained himself like he always did. There was really no point in getting angry anyway. They had a long journey ahead of them, and this was only one more victory to add to their list.

Definitely have to get a Stantler. Liz watched the psychic deer with interest as he told his trainer the exact contents of her pack. Well she had the money, in her bank, but this guy didn't seem the type to wait. Oh well, she had a few things that ought to cover the cost, a few of them she wasn't really sure she'd ever use anyway. Though getting into her pack to retrieve such items was going to be fun what with an unconscious Tansy in her arms and the bag on her back. One might say she should just return Tansy to her ball but Liz didn't want her waking up while she was still inside. Last thing she needed was a freaked out Bulbasaur.

So she knelt down on both knees, laying Tansy across her lap. Then carefully dumped off her bag and pulled it to her side. After a few moments of thought she picked up two Dusk Balls. Liz knew they were fairly expensive items but they were very situational use Pokeballs. She wasn't sure when she'd get around to using them and she had five. Three ought to be more than enough for any time she might be catching Pokemon in the dark. With a bit more scrambling she was back on her feet. She handed to the two balls over to Stannis.

"Here two Dusk Balls. Now I need to be going and get Tansy to the Pokemon Center." Rose Town was closest and Liz didn't want to brave the forest without Tansy at her side. She hoped Stannis was satisfied and bid him and Stantler farewell. She quickened her pace hoping to get back to Rose Town without having to stop.
