So this trip, thus far, had been going particularly well. In the past day, Elijah had acquired four new members to add to his team of Fighting Pokémon - a Mankey, a Meditite, a Machop and a Croagunk. These would all be excellent exponents of the martial arts after they got some training from Elijah. That much was to be expected, and now he could take all the members of his new team and have them assist him in the most difficult quest of getting themselves through the Dustlands. Eventually Elijah was going to have to put the tree away and stop growing Starf berries, but not quite yet. first get through this expanse of grass once more. Now here was hoping he didn't fall into a pit of Sandslashes again. Elijah simply wanted to pass through at the narrowest point and go right for the Dustlands once more, and from there... well, straight to the eastern tip of the area, right at the sea. He didn't need to go back to Bloodaisy, he reckoned, for he could just get straight back on with his quest. That was going to be long enough. Right then. He had Epona the pup walking beside him, her sniffer keeping a close eye... nose... on the air around them, just in case a Pokémon jumped out at them in the hopefully short time they'd spend walking through this area. Luna walked behind and to Elijah's left, and Furioso behind and to the Right of Elijah. They were all pretty happy after obtaining that Croagunk, and just as happy to be out of that toxic crap. It was a pretty good day, in the end. Now they just had to make it to the next area without incident, and everything could begin again. ----- +1 to tree Current Landmark: Dry Grass 2 Destination: Thin Grass, Dustlands |

.3 (Hi! I'll be your test mod for today.)While open ground did not carry sound nearly as well as water, the sound of barking soon became apparent from some distance away. The source of the noise, however, was yet unseen. The grasslands did contain more than grass, obviously--a functional ecosystem generally did. It also contained rocks, some of them rather large, and some small boulders--perhaps relics of an ancient glacial movement, erosion, landslides, meteors, aliens, or any other number of explanations. On one of these large rocks, flat and exposed to the sun, was something purple; rabbit shaped, covered in spines. A Nidorino! Unlike many of its species, however, this one didn't seem too intent on fighting shadows or anything that moved too close to it. The spines weren't even prickled at attention, and his posture was both relaxed and peculiarly catlike. The spiny Pokemon's face was turned towards the sun, his eyes mostly closed. The source of the barking came into view shortly after the Nidorino and his rock, being a bit shorter and somewhat hidden by tall grass. A Growlithe had reared up onto her hind legs to place her front paws on the rock, though she could only reach halfway at best. She was quite agitated, however, barking loudly, continuously, and with each sound edged with a harsher sounding snarl. This was an intruder, an invader! On her turf! She had been at this for several minutes now and it hadn't gone away yet! With such a disease-inflamed ego and territoriality, the Growlithe wasn't going to go away any time soon. The big purple rabbit, on the other hand, didn't seem too bothered by the baying creature below. The rock itself seemed to be in the way of her breathing fire on it. Perhaps the dog was concerned of a risk of sharp pointy teeth and loath to approach. Or she was all noise, no bite. Or, more likely, that the rabbit was bigger than she was, and that pouncing up there would result in a spike to the face. Not even the madness of PokeRUS could convince her to do that. So, the Growlithe was content to bark, and bark, and bark. At least, until Elijah appeared. More importantly, when another female Growlithe appeared. This was unacceptable! The feral dog quickly forgot the purple lagomorph and rushed at Epona, hackles raised and not barking, but snarling terribly. -- ![]() Lv. 42 -OMG COMPETITION!!!11! ![]() Lv. 46 -Stoned and/or really into sunbathing, it's hard to tell. .3 for AWESOME.Well, this had suddenly changed the dynamics of things. The sound of barking up ahead was enough to entice Elijah into going to listen, and thusly, he did; naturally he was going to go and find out just what it was. Disturbances in one's pleasant walks through the wilderness were indeed something not to be taken lightly, and after all, Elijah tended to be something of a curious creature. It was another Growlithe! Interesting! And on that rock... Elijah had never seen that species before. Quickly, he flipped out his Pokédex and discovered that the large purple thing was named a Nidorino. While it wasn't a Fighting-type and therefore out of Elijah's usual zones of interest, it was an intriguing creature to take a look at and the like. That much was certain. What Elijah wasn't expecting, however, was that Growlithe to start rushing at his cute little Epona as if it wanted to fight. Immediately, Furioso moved forward to go and protect the little Growlithe, but the karateka held a hand out as if to restrain his Blaziken from entering the battle. While he didn't want the little pup to be exposed to the horrors of battle... perhaps it would prove interesting enough to get her some real-world experience. "Epona, if you want to..." he began, and at that Epona herself started growling, snorting and snarline. She seemed a bit angry that someone was threatening her and her friends. Battle was imminent, and Elijah was willing to prosecute that battle as far as it needed to go. Hopefully, without disturbing the Nidorino. Luna knew to keep far back to protect the berry tree, and Furioso was on standby to render any necessary assistance, as were the three Pokémon kept in their Pokéballs at Elijah's side. "Go for a Leer and a Take Down, girl!" Elijah cried, knowing to treat this more like an actual Pokémon battle than a sparring match, as he usually did. Epona knew how to all of that and more, and boy, could she pull it off with aplomb. One move could lead into another and the fight would be joined. Viciously. .3 (Hi! I will also be your battle mod!)The angry little feral dog continued her charge without so much as a hitch in her stride, body held low to the ground and her ears tilted forwards in aggression. The Growlithe seemed stricken with an intense tunnel vision, and didn't seem to notice the intruder's companions. She was not very keen on that frilly dodging thing--giving way was for the enemy! The challenging look that this intruder gave her only amplified her desire to chase this strange female away--irregardless of her own personal safety. However, she didn't want to set her pretty home on fire, no matter how beneficial clearing out the old mast might be. Grassfires made ugly black marks on the ground, and her territory had no place for ugliness. As such, the Growlithe raised her head, bared her fangs, and lunged forwards with her mouth agape to bite the offender--and not at all lightly. However, as she leapt to bite, Epona met her mid-leap with her chest and shoulders, bowling the feral dog out of the air and into the dirt. The impact shocked all the air out of her lungs, and didn't even have the courtesy to leave some for a proper startled, pained yelp. The Growlithe sprawled stunned on the ground for a moment. It felt like every single bone and muscle in her body had tried to split apart at the seams and explode from that blow. Ow. But, her opponent was right there! Looking slightly stunned herself, and perfectly within valid biting range. Without any other warning, the Growlithe raised her head and convulsively crunched her fangs down on Epona's leg for all the power her jaw muscles could put out. No bones cracked or tendons pulled, but the bite did draw blood and bruise muscle fibers, primarily where the canines had punctured the hide. Though she was still lying in the dust, the striped hound sawed her teeth back and forth, tightening her grip and snarling savagely through her mouthful. Despite the violence occurring not fifteen feet away from him, the big purple rabbit was unperturbed. At the sound of something hitting the dirt, however, his eyes opened a little bit more and the Nidorino's head turned ever so slightly, and he didn't move further. -- ![]() Lv. 45, 59/135 ![]() Ability: Flash Fire *Recoil'd* vs ![]() Lv. 42, 31/126 ![]() -1 defense NOM NOM NOM CRUNCH Also, ow. .3 ![]() Well, Elijah was somewhat nervous now. This battle was going to be difficult for Epona to win; she wasn't very good with the whole battling scene due to her cute inexperience in that particular area. Indeed, she was going to need the assistance of some battling veterans; the powerful Furioso and the karate master Elijah were just two of the exponents of battle that she could call on to help her. And they were already screaming some encouragement from the sidelines, trying to get her battle through as a success. "Hang in there, Epona!" Elijah yelled, determined to make this a success. "You are fighting well, little one!" Furioso the Blaziken shouted, the six-foot spring chicken enjoying the spectacle as it unfolded around him. The battle would be difficult, but unfortunately, it was not his place to step in and fight it for her. He could, however, offer advice. "Show her that your bite is far worse than hers!" Epona yipped, then snarled loudly; the savage sounds of her animalistic roars enough to remind Elijah that she, too, was of a world of combat. No matter how much pain this other creature was putting her through - and there was a considerable amount of that, to be sure - Epona would continue her struggle onwards as a combatant. She needed to hit hard and fast. Epona knew that her opponent would still be reeling from the hit she'd delivered, and so was she, in all fairness, but that needed to be moved on. If this dumb dog could bite her hard, Epona could bite back even harder! So she did. A bite, aiming to crush just as badly as her own leg was being assaulted and maimed, but one aimed to take out the sensitive midsection of the Growlithe opponent she was facing. And to finish it off, if that didn't end the fight quickly? True revenge. Two hind legs kicked out in a powerful double kick that was an attempt at getting back the Growlithe for everything it had done so far, trying to reverse all the damage dealt back onto her opponent. Epona was not pleased about this whole thing. Not pleased at all. Luna, meanwhile, investigated the berry tree and found it to be ripe once, more and so she plucked the magical number of berries that is to be specified at some point in the near future. And then she watered it, for good measure. .3 ![]() The angry dog wasn't keen on letting go--even though she heard some human mouth sounds nearby, and a Blaziken's loud screeching--and ground her teeth into her enemy's leg, bringing up her own paws to keep the intruder's teeth away. This measure came a smidge too late, though. Epona's head flashed forwards, and sharp little teeth snapped down on the Growlithe's exposed belly. If the trained animal had bitten just a little bit harder, the sensitive hide would have torn open and spilled stinking guts everywhere. But as it was, the sudden pain shocked the feral's nervous system, from her beleaguered abdomen to the tip of her nose, and out of stunned reflex she let go of Epona's foreleg to screech, unable to do anything else through overloaded nerves. Following this and a moment of spasmodic thrashing, the feral creature's vision darkened and she became still--though her chest still lifted with breath. The slackening jaws completely released their grip on Epona's leg, and the head flopped down to drool into the dust as if in sleep. The feral Growlithe would wake up again in time, but not for awhile yet. She had some internal bruising and a bit of bleeding to heal first. Epona gains a Rabies-Enhanced 1.4 ! And the mutant zombie apocalypse-flavored PokeRUS, if she didn't have it already. The Nidorino blinked slowly (a movement which must have taken a solid three minutes), when the festivities behind him seemed to be over, and turned his head back to face the sun, clearly unconcerned with the human's presence. He had a sun bath to take! -- A trinity of berries for you! ![]() ![]() -Not paying attention to you anymore. |

.3 ![]() The battle was won. It was unfortunate that the local wildlife had to be stopped, especially by poor little Epona, who was already trembling and shaken form the battle. However, that was the way things needed to be if they were to survive this journey. That being said, however, Epona needed to get some medical treatment as soon as possible. She was injured from that battle, that was for sure; anything Elijah could do to help would have been greatly appreciated at this point, he was sure. She had fought bravely, and valiantly, and won for it; too bad that the Growlithe that they'd just fought could not have been saved form the virus. This virus... well, he'd heard whispers of it passing through Bloodaisy last time. But now he knew it to be real, and what would happen if he wasn't careful about his moves. He needed to get her back to the city to heal her. There were no other options. For the first time, Elijah actually recalled the poor little pup, giving her a scratch behind the ears as she did so. Epona was somewhat relieved for the rest; the walk from here to Bloodaisy was relatively long, and she was sore and tired from fighting. Elijah motioned for his two remaining fighters to follow him, and he took off at a brisk jog, Luna still carrying her tree. Her strength was impressive; if and when she evolved once more, she would truly be a powerhouse. But this... this was such a trying time. For them all. ----- +1 to tree Travel Plan: Dry Grass 2 -> Then Grass -> Open Space 1 -> Bloodaisy |
