Okay, now that I'm back in Malral, it's time to take care of some stuff before I even have the time to begin RPing. Depositing 2000z into the bank, which leaves me with 500z on hand. Withdrawing my Drifloon and Gible from the PC. EXP TIME!!!! I have 11.3 from my thread and various mods plus 11.8 from my freeform. Which totals to about 15 levels worth of experience. Which I'm going to distribute to my weak Pokemon.3 levels goes to Auraiso, he learns Rage. 5 levels goes to Tatl, she learns Focus Energy. 4 levels goes to Looney, he learns Headbutt. 3 levels goes to the Gible, he learns Dragon Rage. Which leaves me with 0.6 ! Also my APL rises to about 10.Also, it's been nearly a month since I last asked for berries. So, berries please? I think 3 would do since tomorrow is the last day of the 4th week. So, yea 3. |

0.1 ![]() OOC: Ok, I have decided on doing a freeform from this point on. The air in front of the Pokemon Center flickered. Suddenly, it got distorted, and out from nowhere, Jared, Tatl, and his stuff appeared just one foot above the ground. Then they fell. Jared made sure to land on his good leg while Tatl jumped on his shoulder so as to avoid complications. She leaped down while Jared looked around. It was sunset, and the residents of Malral were returning home for the night. He breathed a sigh of relief. No more would he be subjected to any further troubles. Safe at last. He looked at his broken shoulder. To think that his first foray into the ruins would produce this kind of result, he would have to be very careful from now on. Not only that, but he also needed to have strong Pokemon whom he could rely on for protection. His Rono is very strong, but his weaknesses have been made painfully obvious from the encounter with that Mankey. Either he would have to search for more strong Pokemon, or strengthen his team to Rono's level of strength. It was either one or the other, but what if he did both? That's not such a bad idea. A noise from behind him caused him to look in that direction, then down. Tatl was standing right next to the pile of stuff that was on top of his pack. She was looking at him with eyes that said, "Well? Here she was, waiting for him to do something when he was dozing off! Jared rubbed the back of his head while making a sheepish smile. "Sorry 'bout that. Let's get going then." The Rattata nodded, and the two of them then dragged their burden into the Pokemon Center. Once inside, Jared was immediately ushered to the emergency room by the nurse in charge, while one of the Chanseys helped Tatl drag Jared's belongings to one of the rooms that he'll be staying at for the time being. The next day, Jared got out of his bed. He had a sling over his left arm so as to keep it from moving too much. Tatl appeared to his side. Jared turned his head towards her and said, "Well, looks like I'll be staying here for quite a while, huh?" Tatl nodded, and jumped off the bed. She turned towards him, waiting expectantly. Jared sighed, and got up. He put on his hiking boots, which proved to be more difficult to do with only one arm, and went to the PC room with Tatl following him. He would make a call to his parents. Using the number that he had memorized from his Poketech, Jared picked up the phone, and dialed in the number. Tatl jumped up to the counter that seated the TV in which Jared would see his parents. Jared pulled out a chair, and sat down in front of the TV. He still held the receiver in his right hand. He waited as the phone on the other side rang. Eventually, someone answered the phone. Jared heard the phone on the other end of the line being picked up, and was greeted by the sight of his mother appearing on the screen. "Hello?" She had brown, bushy hair that ran down to her shoulders. Her eyes were of the bright green. You could just stare at them and never get tired of looking in them. They burned with the passion of adventure. Her build was that of an average mother. She had that light smile that tends to fool others into thinking that she had a gentle nature. Her face is quite lean despite having a stocky body. There was a single scar that ran down her right cheek. No matter how many times Jared had asked her how she got it, she refused to tell. His father, however, dropped a hint that the scar is the mark of their first time meeting each other. As soon as she saw who was calling her, she gasped and said, "Jared? Is that you? What happened to your arm? Don't tell me that you got injured while hiking again!" Her voice had a dangerous edge to it. Jared began stammering while trying to explain what had happened when he was saved by a deep voice saying, "Who is it, honey?" His mother looked away in the direction of the voice and responded, "Come over here and take a look as to what happened to our son!" The image of his father appeared on the screen. This was followed by the image of the family's Pokemon, a Typhlosion, appearing as well. Jared began to sweatdrop as the Typhlosion immediately began to smother his parents' faces against the screen as he tried to hug Jared's image on their TV. This is their family Pokemon, Blazer. He belonged to his father, and he was his starter. Jared had always known Blazer for as long as he could remember. His parents were trainers, and they had traveled all over the four lands. They had trained and raised all sorts of Pokemon. When Jared was born, they were forced to abandon the way of the trainer and settled in New Bark Town so that Jared could have a proper childhood. It was then that they decided that one of their Pokemon could help them raise their only child. That Pokemon was Blazer, who had been with Jared's father right from the beginning. They thought that the Typhlosion was the best choice. And it was. Blazer had a cheerful personality, and got along with Jared fabulously. As such, they were the best of friends. Why, Jared could remember that time when his parents took him to Mt. Silver... Edited by dragonfan, Oct 27 2009, 08:08 AM.

A pike drove into the rock. A grunt followed soon afterwards, and a man pulled himself up and used another pick to pull himself up even more. He was scaling a cliff that has a somewhat steep slope. After a while of making his way up, he finally reached a ledge in the cliff. He pulled himself onto the ledge, and began pulling on the rope that he was tied to. A few seconds of pulling, and a woman appeared. The man reached out to help her onto the ledge. She set down the picks that she was using while trying to catch her breath. The man asked her in concern, "Are you okay, honey? The woman replied quickly, "Yea. The man with the athletic build then peered down and called out, "Hey you two, you alright down there?" A Pokemon cried out a reply back at him. The man nodded, and called down, "Take your time. We will be taking a break here." Said Pokemon cried back the affirmative reply and the man joined the woman to rest his sore muscles. A few minutes passed before a Typhlosion appeared on the cliff ledge. He was carrying a child in one of his arms. Said child was clinging to the Typhlosion for dear life. He looked to be no less than 8 years old. The fire Pokemon set the child down on the ground. The boy realized that he no longer had to cling for dear life, and released his grip. The man called out to him, "Oi there Jared! You doing okay? Jared turned around and was about to respond when the woman elbowed the man's ribs hard. The brown-haired man grunted in pain and rubbed the sore area. "Did you actually think that he would be okay after this?! He's a child, for Arceus' sake! Children around his age shouldn't be doing this kind of stuff!" The man put up his hands in front of him as if surrendering. "Calm down, Nikki. If anything bad happens to him, Blazer would make sure to prevent it from happening! Right, Blazer?" When the Typhlosion nodded and positioned himself over Jared, the father continued, "Besides, have you forgotten the rumors surrounding Mt. Silver? Need I remind you that we are going there to see if there really are fossils there?", and he dropped to a whisper, "And we both know just how much Jared loves fossils." Nikki, the mother, sighed. "Yes, I know that. But still, I'm against the idea of actually taking him. I'm not saying that I don't trust Blazer's capabilities. I have seen for myself what he's truly capable of. All I'm saying is this: what if some minor accident happens to him that not even Blazer could prevent? Hmm?" Blazer puffed up in indignation, but otherwise remained silent. He respected the woman, but she needs to stop fretting. As long as he is around, Jared would be safe! His trainer was of the same opinion. "Would you please stop worrying about such things? Accidents are bound to happen, whether we like it or not. Blazer is here to prevent the big ones from happening. I understand your concerns, Nikki, but you need to stop worrying about things like that." Blazer nodded and voiced his agreement. Nikki sighed in resignation. "Alright, fine, have your way! BUT, if anything should happen to Jared, I'm holding you responsible for it, Seth!, she said while waving a finger threateningly at Seth. Seth nodded quickly, eager to get going. "Yes, yes, I hear you." He got up to his feet, and helped Nikki up. "Let's get going, shall we?", he said with a carefree smile. This had the effect of causing her to smile a bit despite her misgivings. She silently cursed Seth for using her love of adventure against her, yet at the same time, she blessed him for taking her along. She gave a small nod, and looked over at their only child. "Are you ready, Jared?" Jared had been watching the exchange between his parents in silence and curiosity. He had no idea what they're talking about, but Blazer seemed to. When the Typhlosion positioned himself above the boy, Jared looked up and reached upwards to feel that warm, toasty fur. Blazer responded in kind, and in a few seconds, Jared was surrounded by that warm, toasty, and soft fur. Thusly, the two spent the rest of the time fooling with themselves while the parents argued amongst themselves. When asked the question, the two stopped their fooling so that Jared could answer. "Yes, Mommy!" He climbed onto the back of Blazer's neck and shoulders, and tried to make him move by jumping up and down and clapping his hands. "Let's go, Blazer, let's go!" With an excited cry, the Typhlosion charged towards the cliff, and began climbing it, much to the joy of the boy riding on him. The parents laughed at this, and Seth said, "Well, there's your answer, Nikki! Com'on, we can't let Blazer outdo us!" "Yeah!" They picked up their picks, and began climbing the cliff while following Blazer. ----------- Back to the present in the Pokemon Center, Jared recounted that moment in his life too fondly. The family reached Mt. Silver, and began hiking it. His parents showed him all sorts of stuff while explaining them to him. They also encountered Pokemon during the hike, but the presence of Blazer warned them off. It was during that time that Jared grew to love hiking mountains. He saw all sorts of Rock-type Pokemon, and grew to appreciate them. He also got to see just how they lived in their environment. There were sights that he will never forget. Sights of rock formations formed by the Pokemon, how they fought, what they ate, etc. He knew that the fossil Pokemon were also of the Rock-type, so the hike was the best experience for him. It was then that he also acquired his personal treasure. It was a piece of rock that looked just like a fossil. At that time, Jared absolutely went crazy over it. His parents tried to tell him that it was just a piece of rock and not a fossil, but Jared refused to be convinced otherwise. He kept the treasure for himself as a memento of the hike. When it was time for him to leave on a journey to Opaddeka, his parents managed to convince him to leave it behind since it might cause an uproar if discovered. Jared was so lost in thought that he did not hear his parents try to get his attention. Tatl looked between Jared and the screen displaying his parents, and sighed while flattening her ears. Something had to be done about this. She could think of no other way of getting Jared's attention. She leaped from the counter that the TV was on straight towards Jared's right arm. She took care not to disturb the injured one though. Jared was pulled abruptly from his daydreaming when something crashed into him. He let out a startled yell, and reached out to find Tatl on his right shoulder. He was confused momentarily as to when she got over there. Then he realized that it must be her who crashed into him and snapped him out of his daydreaming. He inquired the rat, "What is it, Tatl?" The Rattata facepalmed at this, and pointed towards the screen. Jared turned his attention that-a-way, and saw amused looks on the faces of his parents. His father had managed to get Blazer off the screen, and the Typhlosion sat a couple of feet behind his parents. He had the air of dejection since Jared had not said hi to him yet. With a gasp, Jared began waving his right arm wildly as if in a panic. "H-h-h-hey Blazer, I have not forgotten about you! I'm quite glad to see you! It's just that I have been recounting that time...", and trailed off just as his father finished for him, "when you were at Mt. Silver?" He had one of those carefree smiles that Jared had begun to see too often on Looney. "Yeah. So, please don't be so sad, Blazer! I haven't forgotten about you!" Upon hearing this, the Typhlosion cheered up a bit, and waved at him. Jared waved back in relief. His father nodded in approval. "Good. Now that Blazer's been cheered up, let's talk about the more important issue." Nikki chimed in, continuing where Seth had left off, "The issue of your arm. Care to tell us how it came to be like that?" Blazer perked up at this, and tried to voice his objection but his trainer whirled about and pointed at him. "Blazer! You. Stay. There. Don't interfere." Both Jared and Blazer winced at the tone in Seth's voice. The Typhlosion reluctantly stayed where he was, and ventured forth no further objection. Only his face betrayed his true feelings on the matter. Satisfied that Blazer would pose no more troubles, Seth then turned to face his son with arms crossed. He did not look happy at all. And for a very good reason, or so Jared told Tatl later on. Seth hardly ever got serious unless it concerns him or when he's upset. He tends to see the bright side of things, and leads quite a carefree life in contrast to Nikki's serious outlook in life. Both of their traits have been passed on to Jared. Another part of Jared's personality had been influenced by Blazer, who in turn was influenced by his trainer. Which means that Jared more resembles his father than his mother. Jared had no doubt as to what is going on in his father's mind. No choice but to tell them. "Well, you see, I went to the Forest of Fury-Aha! So that's what happened." Jared jerked his head in the direction of the voice, and saw Mariel gazing at him. He could hear his mother asking, "Who's there?" Much to their surprise, and Blazer's, Jared took on a guarded stance while seated. "Mariel...what are you doing here?" Mariel had a hurt expression on her face. She grasped at where her heart was supposed to be. "To think that you would say such a thing...it wounds me." Then she dropped the act and approached Jared so that his parents plus Blazer could take a good look at her. Blazer began growling at the image of a gangster confronting Jared, but Seth put out a hand towards him, cutting it off before it got audible. Mariel stopped before Jared, and touched his nose with her finger. "You know full well why I am here. You tell me and them", and pointed at the TV screen. Jared continued to stare at her guardedly. "Yes. It's about the deal we made not too long ago after I lost to you in battle, right?" He heard a gasp coming from his parents plus Blazer. He ignored them though. He stood up, facing Mariel. A sharp stab of pain came from his leg, but he ignored it. "Well, you could just forget it! I'm not going to battle you!" Mariel was too stunned to even reply. Jared bowed his head, and stared at the floor while clenching his right fist. "That time...that time, I could not do anything about it." Tatl grew worried for her trainer, and it became evident on her face. She could do nothing here though. Jared had to let his feeling be known. Then Jared startled everybody present by bursting out, "I DON'T EVER WANT TO SEE MY POKEMON GET HURT WITHOUT ME DOING ANYTHING!" Then he ran out of the room. Mariel started going after him. "Jared! Wait!", but was halted when Seth called out, "Hold on there. You're called Mariel, correct?" Mariel turned around to face the parents. "Yes, I am called Mariel. And you two are...?" "Seth, Nikki, and Blazer. Do you have the time to listen to the plea of a couple of very concerned parents and Pokemon?" "Sure, I'm all ears." Mariel sat down on the chair and began hearing out the plea. Edited by dragonfan, Nov 15 2009, 09:23 PM.

Jared burst out of the TV/PC room of the Pokmeon Center with his Rattata clinging for dear life onto his shoulder. He navigated his way through the halls of the Center, and out of the main lobby. The nurse in charge of the Center tried vainly to call out to him. It went unheeded as Jared burst through the main doors of the Center. He turned left, and went to the training field just outside of the Center. He paused for a moment to look around while Tatl allowed herself to drop to the ground. Eventually, Jared decided to sulk besides a wall, on the ground. Having recovered herself from the ride, Tatl looked around for Jared. She found him sulking against the wall, with his legs drawn up and held together by his right arm. His left arm, in the shoulder sling, rested between his body and legs. His eyes were half-lidded. Tatl knew full well what Jared must be going through right now. There’s nothing that she could think of to cheer him up, so she turned to the one method that might just work: comfort him. However, she is not the one who could do that job well enough. She bounded over to Jared, and stopped right next to his right side. She reached out for Auraiso’s Pokeball. Jared either didn’t notice or made a move to stop her. Tatl wasn’t sure which is which. Regardless, the ball containing Jared’s trusty companion was opened somehow. Auraiso appeared in a flash of white light. Tatl waited for him to flex his muscles and take in his surroundings before going to his side and told him what happened. The croc was silent and motionless while Tatl was explaining things. Jared being unhappy was one thing, but him being dispirited and crushed emotionally was a whole another thing. When the explanation was finished, he slowly turned his head to look at Jared, fearing the outcome. When he finally saw the condition that Jared was in, he jumped back in shock with his mouth wide open. It took a moment for Tatl to make him come to his senses. He ran over to Jared’s side, making all sorts of noises that expressed his worry. When he got no response, he went over to stand in front of Jared, and flailed his arms about, trying to get his beloved trainer’s attention. Nothing. But Auraiso was not one to give up so easily. He began to poke at Jared’s legs. Nothing. Feeling more daring, the croc then pulled at Jared’s legs. Now, THAT got Jared’s attention. When he felt his legs give way, Jared looked up to see an extremely agitated Totodile staring back at him. In a faint voice that threatened to break, he said, “Auraiso, you’re not hurt?” The trusty croc released his grip on Jared’s legs, and immediately began to flex himself to show that he was not hurt at all. Jared felt immensely relieved at the display. With the faintest of smiles, he reached out towards the Totodile, and drew him in. Auraiso allowed himself to be wrapped by human arm and legs without the faintest trace of resistance. He heard Jared murmur to him, “I’m glad. When I saw you fall in battle, I was at a loss as to what to do. And then Rono, and Looney too. I did not know what to do. If Tatl wasn’t there, I don’t think I would be here at all. I’m sorry for putting you lot in harm. So very sorry…” Auraiso suddenly got alarmed when he saw tears fall from the boy’s face, and tried to no avail to calm him. Tatl understood Jared’s pain, but she also knew that he must let it all go, lest his emotions get in the way of his decisions. She sighed, then stole a glance back at where Jared came from. She saw something that caused her to facepalm and sigh even more. Here comes trouble. She wondered whether Auraiso would allow this form of trouble to bother Jared or not. Most likely the latter. Just have to wait and see what happens. A shadow fell over Jared and his trusty croc. Auraiso took a look to see what or who it is. Upon seeing who the intruder is, he tried to warn her off with a growl. “Leave us be!” Jared heard his croc growl, and looked up to see Mariel looking down at him with her hands at her hips. There was Nathan, her Treecko, at her shoulder, leering down at the two with a smirk on his face. Before Jared or Auraiso could respond, Mariel said, “Nathan, if you will.” The Treecko shot out from her shoulder straight towards Auraiso while Mariel reached out and grasped Jared’s shirt. The two Pokemon tumbled around, which ended with Nathan holding down a struggling Auraiso, while Mariel pulled Jared to his feet and slapped him on the face. Tatl winced at the slap, but she supposed that Jared deserves it. “Ok, Jared, what the hell?! Did you just tell me that you won’t battle with me just because you don’t want to see your Pokemon get hurt? Are you stupid, boy?! Did you think that you would get away with that pathetic attempt of an excuse?!” Grasping at the shirt with the other hand while bringing her face in close to Jared’s, she continued, “Seriously, how stupid can you be? Battling and getting hurt are a part of the natural lives of Pokemon. No matter your intentions, you can’t avoid battles just because you don’t want to see your Pokemon get hurt. In fact, you can develop bonds with your Pokemon through battling! Isn’t that what you wanted in the first place? To be good friends with your Pokemon?” As Mariel lectured Jared, Auraiso’s struggling grew weaker as he started to agree with Mariel’s words. Questionable though her actions may be, Auraiso could not deny the words. He did not mind battling and getting hurt as long as he gets to protect Jared in the process. If Rono were here, Auraiso would bet that he would completely side with Mariel. That Aron lived for battle after all. Auraiso hoped that he could learn a thing or two from the tiny warrior. Sensing that the Totodile would not struggle any more, Nathan released his iron grip on him. Grateful that he is not being restrained anymore, Auraiso got up and rubbed the areas where the Treecko had him pinned. Nathan, despite his looks, was quite strong. He would like to test himself against the Treecko, had it not been for the type disadvantage here. Tatl went over to join him, and all three Pokemon watched the humans confront each other. In response to Mariel’s lecture, Jared dropped his eyes so as to avoid meeting her eyes. He did not reply to Mariel’s scolding. Mariel saw that she had no choice but to force him. She released her grip on Jared, and took two steps back. Her arm raised, finger pointing at him from an angle. “Okay. If you’re gonna be like this, then I have no choice but to attack you with my Pokemon. You better get yours ready. Nathan!” The Treecko nodded, and was at her side immediately. Tatl responded in kind, with Auraiso struggling to get the heck over there. They resumed battle stances when Nathan did. Jared was stunned by this. He recovered though, and waved his arms about. “H-h-hey! I have not agreed to this!” Mariel shouted back, “YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO SAY NO!!! Look at your Pokemon! They are ready to battle! And you are saying that you will deny them the thing that they want above else? To help make you feel better?” Jared looked at his Pokemon, who were looking at him with the corner of their eyes. They smiled and nodded at him. Jared was speechless. “You mean that you are perfectly willing to battle for my sake?” Auraiso and Tatl both nodded. “Well Jared, what’s your answer?" |

Jared looked at Mariel with Nathan ready at her side. He noticed that Mariel had her hands hovering over her Pokeballs, which contained her Ice Pokemon, no doubt. He looked back to his Pokemon, who had their gaze reverted to Nathan. The Treecko had a smirk plastered on his face. Jared was willing to bet that the Treecko was devising some means of victory. His Pokemon were willing to take on Mariel’s one more time. The problem is: would they be able to pull off a victory? Jared doubted that, since Mariel was several leagues better at battling than him. Didn’t one of her Pokemon nearly pulled off a double KO last time? Plus, there’s the matter of her Pokemon being incredibly fast. Mariel raised an eyebrow while giving Jared a look that said, “Well, say something!” Jared saw the look, and opened his mouth to try to say something. He closed his mouth, and then shook his head. “I’m sorry, but I still don’t want to battle. No matter what you say or do, I won’t allow my Pokemon to be hurt!” Mariel bowed her head just slightly, and closed her eyes. “I see. I guess I have no choice but to do this. Nathan?” The Treecko tensed his leg muscles, and then sprang towards Jared. Auraiso and Tatl were prepared for this, but Tatl reacted faster than the Totodile. Using her speed, Tatl sprang up to intercept Nathan. The Treecko crashed into her, and the two landed in a heap in front of Jared. The latter backed away with Auraiso, who was keeping an eye on the mass tangle of limbs. A struggle ensued between a gecko and a rat. Eventually, Nathan broke free, and leaped back so as to keep his distance. Tatl scrambled ungracefully to all fours. “You better not have any ideas.” Nathan shrugged, and replied with a leer, “You know that I was not having any ideas. You know that I was just goading either one of you into action. Now, let’s see if I can goad you into attacking me in a blind fury.” Tatl’s mouth broke into a smirk. “Too bad. I’m not easily provoked like that fool back there. You’re gonna have to work harder than that if you want to provoke me into a blind fury.” Nathan gave off a small snicker. “We shall see.” They both readied themselves for battle. Mariel swept her hand at the scene before her. “See, Jared? I may not know much about your Pokemon, but she looks as if she really wants to battle. Do you understand? She is perfectly willing to get hurt on your account. That’s what Pokemon do, for Arceus’ sake! They protect their trainers, and get hurt in the process! Nathan!” She pointed at Tatl, “Use Pound!” Jared simply stared at what Tatl just did. Did she just attack without him asking her to? He hadn’t expected her to do that. On the other hand, she DID respond to Nathan’s offensive. Perhaps she was defending him? Then how would he be able to explain the scuffle between the two? Suddenly, things could not make sense in Jared’s mind. Tatl hated battles as much as he did. Yet, here she was, returning Nathan’s taunts. Jared was at a loss as to what to do when Mariel spoke to him. He thought about what she just said. While Jared could find some merit in Mariel’s words, he still disliked Pokemon getting hurt in general. However, he did not have much time to digest her words, for Mariel had ordered Nathan to use an attack on Tatl. Panicking for a moment, Jared managed to blurt out, “Tatl watch out! Dodge it with Quick Attack! Super Fang!” Tatl was privately relieved that Jared had come to his senses, if only for a brief moment. She swiftly put aside that thought, for there was a battle to fight! She readied herself as Nathan charged towards her. Using the temporary speed boost granted to her by Quick Attack, she was able to get out of the way and underneath when the Treecko’s tail came crashing down. There was a crack on the ground in the wake of the attack. Tatl was not expecting that. Mariel certainly did train her Pokemon well. However, Tatl thought as she prepared to leap up to bite at Nathan’s defenseless legs, I’m a step ahead of him. Nathan sniggered at this pathetic attempt, and used his tail to vault himself out of the way. The fangs of Tatl were met with empty air as Nathan soared over her. She realized just what Nathan was up to as the Treecko suddenly twisted, bringing his tail crashing down on her back. She squealed in pain, and was slammed to the ground. Nathan landed besides her, his tail still pinning her down. He continued to leer and smirk at her. “Nice try. If I didn’t use the extra boost of speed back there, you would’ve gotten me. Furthermore, I was trained to do battle while that boy has been coddling you. Wouldn’t you agree that that is pitiful?” Tatl snorted at this, and shot back with, “Hah, you may be right that it may be pitiful. Pitiful that you still can’t provoke me with such pathetic blathering.” The smirk disappeared from Nathan’s face, and he brought his head in close to Tatl’s. There was an anger vein on his head. “Do you really want to go there?” Tatl returned the leer. “I really do. Isn’t that a hint of anger in your voice? Are you really provoked that easily?” Nathan straightened up, and a glowing ball of green energy appeared in one of his hands. He made sure that Tatl could not move nor retaliate in her current condition. “Your loss. You shouldn’t have done that. Goodbye.” Thrusting forth the Energy Ball at point-blank range, he watched as the attack hit Tatl, resulting in an explosion. Certain that she was out cold, he lifted his tail and began walking towards Mariel. Jared could hardly believe his eyes. What had just happened here? He did definitely see his Tatl provoke Nathan into finishing her off. That’s not like her at all. Usually, she would think before acting, unless provoking him served her purposes. However, none of this were crossing Jared’s mind. All that was crossing his mind is the fact that Tatl had just been defeated. He wasn’t 100% certain due to the residual smoke left behind by the explosion, but Nathan walking away meant that she’s been defeated. Tentatively, he put his foot in front of the other, but was stopped when Auraiso tugged at his boot. He glanced at his croc, “Auraiso?” The Totodile grunted something while pointing at the smoke. Mariel noticed it too, and forestalled Nathan with a command. “Wait. I don’t think she’s done yet. Be on your guard.” Nathan sighed before turning completely around to face the smoke. Adopting a defensive stance on all fours, he waited until the smoke cleared. When it did, Tatl stood facing him on all fours, a bit shaky but standing strong. Nathan noticed something about her stance, and began circling her. “You may be standing, but you can’t fool me with just that. I can see that it takes every effort on your part to remain standing. I wonder what would happen if I were to thwack you with my tail?” Tatl kept her eye on Nathan as he stopped to her left. An idea seemed to enter Nathan’s head. “Oh, that’s right, you can’t take another hit. So, what would happen if you were to take another one?” He sped towards her with a burst of speed. “That’s right, you would be knocked out!” Tatl ignored Jared’s sudden cry of, “Watch out Tatl!” while waiting for Nathan to come to her. She waited for Nathan to come close, and swing his tail at her. Right before the attack connected, she sprang to action. Twisting her body about so as to redirect Nathan’s attack below her, she sprang towards a surprised, defenseless Nathan. Then all hell broke loose as Tatl let Nathan experience the fury of Endeavor. She was about to deliver the final blow, when Nathan saw his chance. Using the extra boost from Quick Attack, he made a clean getaway. Almost immediately, Tatl gave chase after him. Nathan may be faster, but Tatl was smarter. Whenever the Treecko tried to get an attack in, Tatl would just use his momentum against him and prepare an immediate counterattack. Nathan saw this coming thanks to the first attempt, and dodged every single counterattack. The exchange of blows raged on for a minute, until Mariel called out, “Nathan, attack from range! That’s your only option of taking down that rat!” Jared could only watch helplessly as Tatl fought against Nathan. What if she took one more hit? No, Jared shook his head to clear himself, I’ve got to stay strong! I’ve got to believe in her! Clenching his teeth, tightening his right fist (since his left arm is broken), he yelled out, “Tatl! You can do it! I believe in you! Take him down!” Tatl was nearly touched at the boy’s vote of confidence. Looks like we succeeded in making him see the truth of things. A noise from Nathan snapped her attention back to the battle. He was starting to gain some distance away from her. She couldn’t have that! She went after Nathan, just as he hastily charged up some green energy in his hands. He fired it at Tatl, who managed to dodge at the last moment. She closed in the distance between her and a recovering Nathan. The Treecko recovered enough to move away from her, but not fast enough to avoid her latching on to his tail. He skidded to a halt, and allowed the momentum to bring his tail crashing down with Tatl on it. Tatl saw this coming, though, and merely shifted her position on the tail to avoid the attack. The tail crashed down on the ground, making a crack like the first time. This left Nathan open to Tatl’s offensive. She slammed against him from her position on his tail. The gecko felt his own breath knocked out of him as he fell towards the ground, defeated. Tatl stood over him, sagging and breathing deeply. Jared was gaping at her for a few seconds, before starting to jog over to her. Pain stabbed at him from his injured leg, but he didn’t care nor even feel it. All he cared is that Tatl had just won her battle with Nathan. A red light shot out to envelop itself around Nathan, and the Treecko disappeared in a flash of red light. Tatl was left alone with no Nathan to stand victorious over. She fell just as Jared caught up to her, with Auraiso at his heels. The latter rushed to help her up, and the former knelt down to ask her, “Are you feeling alright, Tatl?” The small purple rat smiled weakly at him, and nodded. Feeling relieved, Jared gathered her up in his right arm and straightened up as Mariel approached him. She had an amused look on her face as one of her hands rested on her hip. “That was unexpected. Never did I think that your Rattata would fight like that. I look forward to challenging her again.” “More to the point, have you learned something out of this battle?” Jared looked at his Tatl, who was resting in his arm, then back at Mariel. “Yeah, I have. I can resolve conflicts via peaceful means without anybody getting hurt in the process, but if violence is unavoidable, then I would take on that path, knowing that I could trust my Pokemon to get my message across. They are my friends, and friends exist to trust and protect each other. If I can’t do that, then I have failed in my duty as a Pokemon Trainer. Isn’t that right, Mariel?” The girl smiled back at him, and nodded. “Exactly. But you must know that I love battling, and that will never change. You may have won over me this time, but I promise you that the next time we meet, the outcome would be completely different. I’m going to put off our deal until that meeting. Until then, work hard at strengthening your team, you hear me?” She waited until Jared nodded before grasping his healthy shoulder, and herded him towards the Pokemon Center. “Good. Your parents want to talk to you. You better be prepared.” Edited by dragonfan, Nov 22 2009, 06:30 PM.

“…And that’s how my arm came to be like this.” Mariel had guided him back to the TV/PC room of the Pokemon Center, but not before allowing him to give his Rattata along with Nathan to the nurse in charge. There, she forced him to sit down and call his parents once again. She watched as Jared told his parents and Blazer exactly what had happened in the forest ruins. Everybody was silent as he recounted the tale, even Auraiso; whom his parents or Blazer had not seen yet. During the tale, Mariel had gone back to retrieve Nathan and Tatl. She came back with the two in tow just as Jared had finished his story. Silence followed as Seth and Nikki took in the story without any emotion on their faces. Blazer, however, had the air of remorse that he was not there when Jared got injured. Tatl neared the counter, and leaped up onto it to face Jared’s parents plus Blazer. Jared noticed her, and asked, “How are you feeling, Tatl?” The purple rat nodded to him and showed him that there was not a single mark on her. Jared smiled at her, relieved. “That’s good.” Auraiso nodded as well, and clambered up onto Jared’s lap, and in view of his parents plus Blazer. Seth made a small “Oh?” at this and asked, “Is that your starter, Jared? If so, what’s its name?” Jared turned his attention from his trusty croc to face his parents, and a slightly depressed and jealous Typhlosion. He flashed a smile, hugged Auraiso close to him, and said, “Yeah, this is Auraiso. He’s been with me through thick and thin. He’s my trusty companion. The only reason why I did not start out with a Cyndaquil is that I would be reminded of Blazer every time I look at one, and get homesick. That’s why I chose a different starter. I hope you understand my intentions, Blazer. No matter what, you will always be irreplaceable.” Now Auraiso understood just who that big Pokemon in the background is. Apparently, before Jared came here, Blazer was the only Pokemon that Jared relied on to keep him company other than these two humans that were his parents. Now that Blazer is no longer with Jared, the boy had Auraiso to keep him company. Smiling a toothy grin, the Totodile waved at the threesome on the TV screen. His body language also told Blazer that he would take good care of Jared like he did with the boy in his early years. The Typlosion nodded, and waved back along with Jared’s parents. Jared smiled at this and said, “I’m glad that you are getting along with Blazer well, Auraiso. If not, there’ll be complications.” His mother merely smiled at this while Seth burst out laughing. “Well now, aren’t you more chipper than usual? It’s been, what, twelve years since we gave birth to you and look at you now! Acting like an adult!” He continued to laugh even harder while Jared sweat dropped and rubbed at the back of his head with his right hand. “Well, not quite. It’s just that…well…I have been doing things on my own, and learning stuff, and using money, and…uh…things that a Trainer does.” Nikki nodded sagely at this. “The basis that every Trainer needs to know are how to raise their Pokemon and make a living. It’s not that hard to do if you set your mind to it. But we also want for you to talk to us whenever you can. If you don’t understand something, don’t be afraid to ask.” She waited for Jared to nod before continuing, “Also, there are a few things we want to talk to you. Actually, a couple of things. First of all, that rock you found in Mt. Silver. The one that looks like a fossil?” Leaning forward on his seat which caused Auraiso to scramble on the counter, Jared said in an excited tone, “Yes, that fossil fragment! Do you have it with you?” His mother held up said fossil fragment. It looked just like a fossil, only that it’s broken in half. His parents were doubtful whether it’s a real fossil or not, but Jared was convinced otherwise. If he could not get it revived, then he would be content on just keeping it as a souvenir. That thing was the very first treasure he had found while hiking in Mt. Silver. He wanted to take it with him on his journey to Opaddeka, but his parents had convinced him not to while aboard the cruise due to the uproar that it could potentially cause. Therefore, he had to leave it behind at home under his parents’ care. Now that he’s officially on an adventure, there’s no reason why he should not have it with him. Apparently this was what Nikki had in mind, for she said, “Do you want it now?” Jared had to close his eyes and focus to hold back his eagerness that threatened to overwhelm him. When he opened them, he said calmly, “Yes, Mother, I do.” Nikki was hard-pressed not to laugh as she said, “Well, I’ll be sending it over to you. You don’t have to do anything. It’ll be done in an instant.” The image of Nikki partially vanished off to the side of the screen as she put the fossil fragment on the transporter. A few beeps afterwards, and she returned to her usual position with a look of content on her face. The transporter on Jared’s end of the TV suddenly whirred to life, and a white light appeared on the middle of the open space. A burst of light, and the fragmented fossil appeared. Jared reached out with his right hand, and grasped it. He showed it to Auraiso and Tatl for closer inspection. It looked like the bottom half of a Claw Fossil, with the tip of the claw only showing. It had been broken off along the midsection of the claw that one would normally see on a Claw Fossil. It would be a miracle if Jared could revive an Anorith from the fossil. The boy pocketed the fossil fragment, then turned his attention back to the screen. “Thanks, Mother! I appreciate it.” Nikki nodded with a grunt that was uncharacteristic for her gender. “Now for the second thing.” She glanced at Seth and gave him an elbow to the ribs. Seth hardly noticed this. “We are considering going back to our old lifestyle as roaming trainers” There was a sparkle in Blazer’s eyes as he said this. “Oh? Where to?”, Jared inquired, interested. His father leaned forward until his face took up half of the screen. “To Opaddeka!” Jared nearly fell off of his chair. “What?! Really?” Seth leaned back against his chair. Jared could see that Blazer was restraining himself from leaping with excitement and joy. There was a carefree grin on his father’s face. “Yes! To Opaddeka! Your mother and I have been talking at length about resuming our old lifestyle as trainers not long after you left. We realized that we have been missing out on a great opportunity here! Plus, we’ve both been itching for action for a while now. So, we decided to follow you to Opaddeka and explore the region as a team! What do you think of that?” Speechless, Jared barely managed to get his voice working. “T-that’s great! When will you be here?” Nikki let out a long sigh. Uh-oh, Jared thought, not a good sign. His suspicions were confirmed when his mother said, “Unfortunately, the ship that leaves for the Opaddeka region won’t be here for a few months. Until then, we’re stuck here.” “Oh…that’s too bad.” Seth nodded solemnly. “Yeah, such a shame. But now you know that we will be meeting up with you eventually.” “Yeah.” Seth clasped his hands. “Well, that’s that, I guess. You’ll talk to us later, right?” Jared bobbed his head with a “Yeah.” After some farewells were made between Jared and his parents plus a tearful Blazer, the screen went blank. Jared looked at his Pokemon on the counter. “Well, that’s that. Time to be going then. Comon you two.” They both nodded, and hopped off the counter to follow Jared as he stood up and walked to the exit. Right before he could leave, an arm appeared in the doorway, barring his passage. Jared looked past the doorframe to find Mariel leaning against a wall with Nathan on her shoulder. She glanced at him from the corner of her eyes. “Well, Jared? Are you ready?” Bewildered at what she’s getting at, Jared could only ask, “Ready for what?” Removing her arm that’s barring his passage, Mariel grasped Jared’s right shoulder. She turned around so that she fully faced him with Nathan doing his usual leering. “Ready for training, of course! With that broken shoulder there, you would be stuck here for a month. What better way to waste that time other than training you and teaching you about the art of battling?” Jared hesitated at this. “Well…I’m not sure about this…”, but was cut off as Mariel began pulling on his right arm. “No complaints! Come!” And, thus began Jared’s month-long training with Mariel. ~~~~~~~~~One month later~~~~~~~~~~ Jared entered the main lobby of the Pokemon Center, rubbing the drowsiness from his eyes. His left shoulder is no longer broken, mended by the passage of time. Auraiso appeared next to his leg, drowsy as well. It was morning, and the sun had just risen. Time to do his daily training sessions with Mariel. He yawned as he looked around for her. Ah, there she is. Mariel was bent over a bench, doing something with a bag. Jared went over to her while calling out, “Good morning, Mariel! I’m here for our daily morning training!” The girl looked over her shoulder, and saw him. “Oh, morning. Gimme a moment here.” Jared waited while she rummaged about in her bag, zipped it closed, and heaved it onto her shoulder. She turned to face him. “Actually, I have an errand to do. So you can forget about the training. Besides, your arm has healed. There is no reason for you to stay here anymore. I must hurry now. Bye!”, and dashed out of the main doors. She didn’t even give Jared time to say goodbye. Jared let out a sigh, and looked at Auraiso. “I suppose she’s right. There is no reason for me to stay here anymore. Comon, let’s go. The croc rumbled an affirmative reply, and followed Jared to his room to gather up his stuff and resume his journey once more. Edited by dragonfan, Nov 22 2009, 08:27 PM.

Took me over a month to do this. -.- So, anyways, I want Jared's "broken shoulder" to be gone, since I have been doing this for over a month. Technically, it takes three weeks for a broken shoulder to be healed. Therefore, it should stand to reason that Jared's broken shoulder would be healed. Also, I'm trying for a fossil. A Claw Fossil to be exact. If you think that my freeform is not good enough for one, then I'll settle for a fossil fragment that could not be revived at all. This is a really important treasure for Jared. Well, I hope that you enjoyed reading this! ^_^ EDIT: This freeform has 8198 words. Edited by dragonfan, Nov 22 2009, 06:39 PM.
