I didn't imagine that I'd be here so quickly. The rocks and shrubs were gradually replaced by the sea of fog; and my eyes could barely break through the mist. I raised my hand to push away the rolling chiasma, but while it worked for smoke back at my parents' house, it didn't work here. I sighed and Agnis laughed. She told me that Airlia often travelled through the fog with confidence, confidence that sometimes led to trouble. I grinned; it was nice to hear about past self like that.

"Hmmm, by the way, Layla, Airlia was good at battling with us. Even though we have barely met, all of us do feel a connection with you. I think you should practice a little just in case. Maybe you should use the VS Seeker on your Poketech?"

I nodded. Agnis was more experienced in these areas. I never battled before, but Sanctuary told me about some of the battles Airlia had with them before. They sounded fantastic. I doubted my first time would ever be as epic as hers but equipped with strong Pokemon like Agnis, I was not afraid to lose. I took out the Poketech and searched about for an opponent. Whoever it was, hopefully they were friendly enough to point me in the right direction.

I continued moving towards Misthenge.

The device blinked and bleeped, searching for anyone out that might've proved to be a rousing challenge for your pumped-up fighters, but ti slowly became apparent no one of any such persuasion was out here lallygagging in the fog in the middle of nowhere at this time of day. A bit out of luck on that department, but the place wasn't completely void. The haunting patter from the grasslands still followed in the distance, the moist air carrying the sound all around, now mingled with an odd chatter at your feet. Looking down, you may have noticed a section of the ground moving around at your feet, some branch or whatnot passing through your legs.

Upon close inspection, you would realize that the creeping object is an effing bug. Ewwie!

I looked down.

A little Skorupi shuffled around in the moist soil, his legs creeping rapidly around my feet and I leapt up in shock to the side, my skin crawling. I stared at the purple Pokemon - he didn't seem to be malevolent; in fact, he might be helpful to my cause. Tiny, but I could see much potential in him; and he could traverse the fog well.

And then the little egg in my bag started to quiver. I placed it down on the ground, and I could feel the magical energies of the fog gathering, entering the little egg that shook violently. With a little pop, the Eevee put his head through the shell - Jingle was finally out! I started to tear. The egg that came along with me when I was born, the Pokemon that gave up his life for Airlia - it was hatching. I closed my eyes and thanked the magic of the fog.

The Skorupi scuttled about and I knew it was time. Jingle climbed out of the wet eggshells and I lifted him into my arms. He blinked and in the fog, he wailed. Petting him to calm him down, I looked at Agnis and nodded. She went forwards, smiling as she looked at Jingle, and took up her battle stance. I'd see if he can withstand this attack. If he couldn't... Oh well.

"Double Blaze Kick!"

Both her feet caught azure fire as she dashed forwards in preparation for the attack. Jingle grew warm in my arms, his eyes still tearing as a blast of white energy shot towards the blue Blaziken. I held him tighter - it wasn't time for him to be involved!

And so your blue bird thing dashed forward kicking at the little purple Skorupi below. It had anticipated the attack but still was hoping that you wouldn't take the offensive... after all you seemed like you'd be much stronger than it. After the flaming kicks had been done, it had managed to survive, barely. Not to mention that it was knocked back about 20 feet from this attack.

There it laid on the ground, barely able to even get up. It pushed itself though, and managed to get back up on it's feet. And with that still attempted to get away with a slow moving crawl of sorts. But as all this was happening.... Your new Eevee snuggled in your arms. It was happy yet confused now that it was out of that egg. What had happened, where was it, and more importantly who are you? However none of those questions really mattered. It absolutely loved being in your arms, and the only thing it loved more than that was the fact that you were petting it.

+ :happiness for the new Eevee.

Jingle purred in my arms and I grinned at him; it's been long, little one.

Agnis twisted her legs as she threw the Skorupi hard. It was weak; but I was surprised that he managed to survive the fiery attack. Bug types were weak against Fire. Agnis threw one of the best attacks she could and it still failed? I frowned and look at the little scorpion scuttle away as quickly as it could on its stubby legs. I enlarged a Great Ball and aimed carefully.

It flew in a graceful arc, despite the fog, and contained the Skorupi. Now it was just time to see if it works.

The Great Ball disappeared into the fog along with the fleeing Pokemon. It was hard to believe that the device would strike true to its target, but the brief flash of read and a surprised squeal said what happened in the obscuring mist. The sound of an object hitting the ground, rolling and rolling...and then silence.

And then the mysterious patter of wings, now louder than ever. It seemed to dart straight ahead, right where the Great Ball had presumably landed. Except when you went to check, it was no longer there. Mysterious! o.o

Somehow, the Skorupi didn't appreciate being battered and captured into this cramped little ball thing, so it simmers in its lonesome at 22 :anger. Wherever it is. Dare you investigate?

I picked up the Great Ball hesitantly; the Skorupi sure wasn't happy with his place. I let the blue device dissipate into the air, as it coalesced in the cyberspace where all my other Pokemon were held. For now, I was more worried about the flapping of wings into the air when I threw the ball. There was no trace of the Pokemon, whatever it was. Jingle whimpered in my arms, confused by whatever was happening.

He didn't remember. It just meant he was reborn, like I was, without my previous mind. It just seemed worse for him - he was like a baby. This was a new world, one that wasn't wrapped in an eggshell. I stroked the top of his head.

"You're my familiar, Jingle. Remember me?"

He could remember my voice. He pawed my face playfully before struggling to be let down. This strange world... That was what I thought when I first opened my eyes and saw the ceiling just a week ago. And now, I'm traveling with companions I never thought I'd have. The little Eevee bounded off forwards and Agnis grinned.

"I used to be like that, a long while ago."

"I'm sure Airlia took good care of you."

"She sure did." She smiled, remembering - and somehow I knew that I was supposed to know something, but I didn't. All that was left was just a void. I pulled myself out of it. It wasn't time to search for missing memories especially when I knew that they were all kept in the little pearl Agnis was holding. I followed after Jingle, who instinctively followed the flapping of wings earlier. What could it be, I wondered.

Flapping wings and something fast enough to have disappeared before you could turn to look. There aren’t many creatures like that residing in Murmur Valley. Assuming that you are still in Unclearable Fog Marsh 1 and haven’t yet moved (repost your route and location every so often because I’m too damn lazy to read 3 posts. XD ), it was a sure bet that where ever you turned was going to be fog, fog, and more fog. A wall of white all around you. This would make finding flappy thing all the more challenging.

What interest would flappy thing have had in you in the first place? Curiosity perhaps? Naaa, food was more like it. And you had just captured its meal. So, long story short, you didn’t find the flappy thing, it found you.

A large hungry and now very grumpy dragon fly belted out of the mist and pelted you on the head with clods of mud scooped directly from the marsh. All you saw was a streak of red and green and then came the stinging rain of cold mud.

Well.

That was rude.

Oh, here she comes again…and look! She has rocks in her little fists this time.

:yanmega :fl Lvl 43
*Flying out of the mist to dump rocks on your head.*

As a side note, you emerge from the edge of the Fog Marsh 1 and just into Sinklands 2.

Fuck it.

The soil smashed down onto my head; I lifted my hands up quickly, blocking the majority of the wild attack. Jingle growled, his face contorting - it was more funny than intimidating, seeing the little pup baring his fangs at a large flying creature. I quickly plucked one of the Pokeballs off my belt, enlarging them with a click of a button and releasing the titan within. In the glow of the red light, Sanctuary floated, his little wings helping to lift his massive size.

I didn't know what I was up against but now it held rocks instead - I didn't like the soil; and furthermore, rocks would probably hurt. I pulled out my Pokedex while hiding behind Sanctuary, aiming it at the huge dragonfly - it was a Yanmega. Sanctuary grunted, his gentle voice reminding me, "Don't worry Layla. I'd take care of you."

Airlia had named him Sanctuary for a reason - I could feel the soft waves of peace and love emanating from the huge figure. I hadn't talked to him much; in fact, I hadn't talked to any of them much because I was afraid that I'd remember. The mind-pearl that Agnis held might be rubbing off on me. I frowned a little as I hoped Sanctuary could do his thing - I knew nothing about battling with a Dragonite. His wings now moved, a large push backwards as he dived forwards.

Jingle glowed again, and released a burst of energy that blasted hard into the Dragonite - and it dissolved like sugar in water upon contact. The brown puff-ball bounced back, and I stood in front, preparing to do anything to protect him.

Go for it, run towards it, dive in head first. Live life with no regrets!
.3 :gexp

Before the dragonfly could reach the group and make rocks fall, and potentially everyone die, the Eevee was able to move first, giving Dragonite a boost of power for its attack.

That was going to have to wait. The dragonfly zoomed for them on thundering wings, far too fast for the true Dragon to attack first, and pitched the armful of rocks at them. They smashed into the dragon, some version of Rock Throw, that made Sanctuary wobble in the air before diving to attack.

The bug didn't know what hit it, struck by the wings and spiraling to the ground to splat into the muck. It didn't get back up again.

+.8 :exp for Sanctuary and Jingle.

"Thanks San."

The dragon Pokemon dissolved into sparkles of red light, zooming back into the Pokeball that held him within in the first place. I smiled to myself - I hadn't lost my touch yet, had I? Pokemon battling wasn't hard; with the knowledge of type advantages and disadvantages, a beginner could get powerful quickly and deal with the ignorant pests that appear in the wild grass - or in the fog, as it is now.

Jingle leapt in front of me, the little brown puffball pouncing on the unconscious body of the dragonfly Pokemon. I grinned and patted his head, whispering for him to let it go. His tiny teeth dropped the wing he was trying to chew on and he smiled back at me, then cocking his head to an unseen path. I nodded and there we went, he in front as I followed behind, the keen nose of an Eevee leading me towards the village of Misthenge.

.2 :gexp It's been a looong while, Sylphy. :D Time to return some old favours.

From one place to another. Simply, this was a difficult and dangerous place to traverse; with the unknown dangers that were inevitably present throughout the depths of the foggy landscape. Naturally, whatever was going on around Airlia could not be discerned by simply looking and watching through the fog. There were things lurking in the mists that could just not be found. Beasts, watching and waiting in this dangerous time of the virus that was mutating out of control, waiting and hoping for some prey to destroy in a place where they were almost helpless to fight back.

A Yanma, buzzing its wings, flew inches from Airlia's head, while two Pidgeottos chased behind it quickly, attempting to catch up with the fleeing bug as they tried to hunt down their dinner. In the distance, a Tangela was feasting on a nearby Burmy that it had just choked the life out of in order to find some sustenance. Things were getting particularly vicious in this time, and it could only get worse as time drew on.

Airlia and her company continued on, and the fog only started getting worse. Most Pokémon would start being useless in this kind of visibility now; there were only a few that could truly say they could cut through the mists and blaze their own trail. Could a nose be enough to get someone to a very distant city? Perhaps. Airlia was now stumbling through a place that she didn't know, and a nose wasn't going to be enough to get through anymore. Now it came down to trying to find ways through the mist. How could that be accomplished?

Nevertheless, things were about to start getting far more interesting.

.4 :gexp Yup! It's been a long time Elijah! I missed you! Would've posted at your Presenting post thingy but since you modded me... How have things been for you? And well, my character isn't Airlia as you know it. Some things have happened and she's now a girl called Layla. Kind of complicated but yeah... It's explained in a freeform I did awhile ago.

---

Jingle shook his little head, nose raised in the air. Things have become useless. I winced as I stumbled over another unseen obstacle on the ground. He turned around, head up, eyes gleaming in apology. His pink tongue rasped across his lips. It looks like he had reached a dead end. I ruffled his head, as his ears went downwards behind his head in shame. I laughed and whispered, "It's not your fault. It's not easy traversing these lands. I'm going to call on Agnis' help. She'd traveled here before."

Jingle nodded and came to heel. Agnis, upon hearing her name, came out of her deep slumber. In the red light, her navy feathers gleamed as she took a large stretch and a big yawn. But before I could say anything, my Poketech rang. Strange - that never happened before. I clicked it and a message blinked around. "Pokerus..." I spoke under my breath. Agnis took a peek at the message.

"This is not the first time it could infect humans!"

I looked at her quizzically.

"Airlia had Pokerus once... It was all hushed up but I remember it clearly."

I shrugged. Airlia, Airlia, Airlia. I wondered to myself, when Agnis looked at me, whether she saw me as me or as Airlia, the wonderful female assassin, perfect trainer and all that she was supposed to be. Her eyes were wistful at the past. I understood her - she missed her old trainer whose soul was incidently mine as well. It was not hard to mistaken one for another.

"You can't just shrug, Layla. She died from Pokerus. You are you only because of that disease. That message there is flawed and so there. We don't need you to die again because of it."

I nodded - Agnis was sure taking this seriously. I wasn't like Airlia.

Or was I running away from the truth?

I had Airlia's soul. My body was given to me by my parents. I made my own mind - but Airlia had intended for me to take back the mind that was once mine. The mind-pearl that she made gleamed in Agnis' headfeathers for safekeeping. I refused to take it, a decision that had shocked Agnis - but not Jayde. Maybe Jayde had forseen this all along.

Ugh, forget it. I wanted to be my own person, and I would.

"You walked this path to Misthenge before, haven't you?"

Agnis nodded, her azure eyes searching, beak sniffing the air. She ground her talons into the ground, nodded confidently and rasped in her contralto voice, "Follow me." We took off, her speed startling. Airlia might have been able to keep up; but I stumbled my way through most of it. Agnis' head twisted back: "Can you keep up?" I cursed under my breath and just kept following. This would remind her that I was Layla.

.3 :gexp I am awesome. How are you? :D As for Airlia... well, my bad. D: Shoulda checked.

So many things were happening. The Pokérus virus was now running wild in this area, there were all manner of creatures that were seemingly trying to spook the girl trainer into doing something rash, and there simply seemed to be no end to this infinitely-long journey through the mists. It wasn't the best place in the world to be, so most trainers believed; some felt at home, thanks to the rumours of the hidden machine that flew around. But Layla lacked this magical device.

The trek plunged on. Through the muddy waters of the Murmur Valley, through the little puddles and across the grasses that could barely be seen as the fog started getting thicker and thicker. Was it an omen of things to come, that Misthenge was an unreachable goal?

No. It was not.

Scent won out in the end; it was easy to pick up the scent of another human, one in the distance that was sprinting through the fog like it was a morning ritual, lantern in hand to provide some illumination. That light was enough to see... what was it... a great distant shadow. That human was useless once that was found, for the shadow in the distance was ample knowledge that Misthenge was close. Yes. Things were looking up.

And finally, Mishtenge itself, right before Layla and her team. The journey, for now, was done.
