"Move it, you worthless shit," he growled at me. Armed with an electrified weapon, he forced me into the small cell. "Get in!" He jabbed at my flanks and soft spots, but the pain was nothing to what I had already endured. The shocks buzzed through me, but after a momentary pause, I entered my new home.

I didnt turn to bid my captor farewell, nor did I put up a fight; in reality, I just slouched there. My back crest grazed the ceiling and my knuckles scrapped the dry, rough metallic floor. I had already fixated on a worn patch in the wall; the shiny surface reflected my pitiful state. A mix of sludge, crusted blood, and gun powder darkened my form. The golden luster in my eyes was gone, but my mind was alive, remembering a similar time.

I had been splashing in the Fields pond one day: the bank had been lapped away by the waves gentle beckon, but I couldnt resist jumping into the muddy waters. Everywhere the mud slapped the ground, coloring green grass dirt brown. I was content on my own, but I wouldnt have minded company, I thought. Footsteps in the distance caught my attention, instinctively, I turned to the sound. Whos there?

There you are, she said. She didnt have to answer she probably didnt understand it anyway I already knew who she was.

I smiled, Lauren!

Howre you - a little mess, right? Her laugh was unmistakable and kind, but I cant remember what she looks like now, because shes been replaced in my heart. Its time to run a few more tests, alright? she would say to me, and every time afterwards, I would be in pain; at least, she would always be there to comfort me.

She scooped me up, right under her arm, and I remember dread. Plopping me into a little sink to wash off the crusted mud, I stared at my reflection. Will these tests ever end? I asked, looking up at her. I knew she couldnt understand me, but I always felt better when we had a conversation.

Nodding, she concentrated on a patch on my back. Huh this is an odd development, she said to no one in particular. Carter, get over here.

Great now shell be talking to Carter instead of me. Eyeing the approaching scientist, I hissed a little, but I was thumped on the nose.

No, bad Aya, she disciplined. I was supposed to be handled by all the scientists in the facility, but I preferred Lauren over all the others. Carter he just stole her attention from me, but I guess he was smart. Look at this, she pointed somewhere along my back, what do you think it is?

Snapping on a glove, he lowered his face, watching me carefully dont you dare bite me, his eyes warned. He pushed up his glasses and looked closely, touching my back, spreading the skin to make a closer observation. No clue; in my opinion, it looks like a fungus, he concluded.

- A fungus? Gross! I didnt feel sick though why would I have fungus? Whats wrong? I asked, looking up at Lauren with a worried expression. Am I going to die?

She sighed, washing off the last of the mud. Youll be fine, she assured, Im sure its just from sitting in that cramp cage. Despite her reassurance, she looked to Carter and whispered to him. I couldnt hear, but I suppose that is the nature of secrets.

Carter left and returned not too much later with small scalpel, a syringe, and his face masked. It wont hurt too much, he mumbled, swabbing my back clean, and then poking me with the needle. Immediately, I felt the region on my back go numb and I was lifted out of the sink and onto a sterile table. Feeling a few faint pressures, he deposited what I assumed to be a chunk of my scaly skin into a vile. Ill go test this, just patcher up, then he walked away.

Tch. That Carter, Lauren said, carefully using a cotton ball to clean my new wound and with a needle and thread, she stitched me up. There. Hes just too focused on this project. After all youre our only survivor.

Yes the only survivor. A movement near the door caught my attention a little totodile appeared. Oh, hi Ayla! I grinned, wagging my tail. Apparently, we were clones well, I was at least. I was a clone of her, that is. How are you?

Im good, she responded, managing her way up onto the table, Looks like youve got a bit of defect there. She was older, obviously, and as a fact of life, much stronger she flipped me over and examined the new stitches, as well as the patch around it. The scales are white.

White?

-----

Yes, white, I said, seeing how much that patch had evolved. When I had been younger, the patch just grew and grew with my strength, and now I was completely white and my red crests had faded to teal. My eyes looked at my reflection, but all I could see was a miserable feraligatr, waiting for someone to pick her up and out of the sink.

How did I get here anyway? I could remember Ayla and Lauren always talking about leaving the facility they said that the Organization was going to use me to make super pokemon and harm the world. I dont think I understood that when I was younger, but we had to get out they risked everything they had to get me and their data out.

Somehow, nearly four years after we all escaped, I had fallen back into the Organizations grasps. I tried to remember that escape maybe I could draw some knowledge and bust out. I breathed in the air, suddenly noticing the familiar scent of raw meat. My eyes darted towards the entry way and a little bucket sat by the door, much too far to reach.

Deep in my chest, I growled my discontent, and shifted about in my cell. Scrapping along the floor, wall, and ceilings, the noise was painful to my ears, but I lay down eventually. My cramped quarters werent too comfortable, but I didnt imagine it was supposed to be. I suddenly felt depressed again, looking at the light crevice under the door. What do you want with me! I yelled, feeling frustration at these particular humans.

Im hungry, Ayla, I said to my friend. When can we eat? They all seemed so urgent and uninterested in eating that trio.

Just sit here calmly, Ayla instructed me.

I recall the lights being dark and all of them being anxious. Carter rustled through the papers and stuffed files into a bag; Lauren, on the other hand, was preparing a large syringe, the kind that I had seen used to insert microchips before. Why were they all doing this? Why in the dark?

Whats everyone doing? I asked, looking up at Lauren as she approached me.

Watching the syringe squirt a small spray of fluid, my human companion smiled to me, Dont worry, itll only hurt for a moment. - Here. She handed Ayla a cotton swab and then she followed up and gave me a shot in the arm. I flinched a little, but my gene-parent, Ayla, was quick to wipe away the blood that pooled at the puncture site.

Just stay calm, Ayla told me, but I had already started to feel groggy.

My head bobbed, as if to nod, but my eyelids fell and lifted like a weight-lifter struggling to make ends meet. I was still too young to realize why they sedated me, but I assumed that it was for the better. Though, before I fully passed out I heard Lauren say, Itll be easier this way. Carter, are you ready?

Yes, he responded. A blur of white light filled the room and I could feel the heat of fire, then a second blur appeared at the corner of my eye, followed by a crackling sensation. Loud booms erupted and I was suddenly grabbed and cradled in someones arms.

We were on the move.

Whats going on, guys?

No one was answering me. Much to my discontent, I had lost full consciousness and probably didnt wake up until six or eight hours later. The sky was dark and we were hiding in the brush. Gun shots whizzed past us and I heard terrifying shouts telling us to come out with our hands up. Dont do it! I warned, but my voice was weak. My fear was so great; I didnt want anyone to get hurt. Run, run!

-----
Posted Image
Run, damn it, I growled, my snout wrinkled at my anger. My fist flew without my mind instructing it to do so, a small dent appeared in the wall, but I knew it was useless. My immense strength was not so endless that I could eventually open a hole in this wall; it had limits I had limits. I was not so small back then, and now, I had no friends to help me I was afraid, but there was no one there to comfort me. Whoever was here, would not help me.

My stomach rumbled in my belly, and I turned my attention back to the bucket. Why was it so far away? What the hell were they trying to do to me? Then it hit me. I dont fucking do tricks for damnable treats! I roared. I felt my voice shake the metal the echoes hit me like waves weathering away rocks. Flinching, I closed my eyes and curled up, afraid. Weakly protesting, I repeated, I dont do tricks.

Aya if you dont listen and do as you are told, then how can we make sure youre safe? Lauren asked, when I refused to perform a simple scratch attack. Professor Willows assistant promised to make sure you were safe with a new trainer but a trainer wont take you, if you wont listen.

But I dont want to leave! I dont want you to leave me, I said, tears were forming in my eyes. I blinked them away, but they just kept flowing down my cheek. I dont wa-!

Ayla scratched me. Stop acting like a little hatchling, Aya. If you dont listen to orders, youll endanger all of us. Ill be going with you well both be safe with new trainers and the Organization wont be able to find us.

I stared at her wide-eyed and sniffed. Fine, I finally said, Ill go.

Lauren smiled decidedly and looked to Carter. Looks like we will have to run away off the mainland; Ayla and Aya will be safe, theyll blend into the totodile populace Im sure They cant check every totodile in the region.

Good idea. Well drop them off in the morning, Carter replied. He smiled and looked to us both he knew I didnt like him, but he didnt mind. Kneeling, Dont ever let them catch you guys, understand? He waited for us to nod before he continued, If they get one of you, they will have half the information, so dont let them ever get both of you. Become strong and always be ready to fight!

I looked at him and was suddenly worried. How would we know if we each got caught? How-?

Dont ever get caught, Ayla smiled, reassuringly patting me on the back. We may not see each other after we get a trainer of our own but well always be in each others hearts, and you will know that getting caught will endanger the lives of the ones we love, and we can never let that happen.

I sniffed and smiled.

We were, as Carter had said, dropped off in the morning. Our new caretaker was an elderly woman, but unfortunately, her name escapes me now. She was kind and every day, she would tell us the stories of pokemon who had just begun a long partnership with a starting trainer. It was not soon after our arrival that Ayla was taken away, but she seemed happy at the time. Our farewells were short, but I remembered what she had said.

Every day, I anticipated a trainer walking through the door, asking for that cute little totodile there and taking me away to begin an adventure! I couldnt wait. I had almost forgotten all the trauma of escaping and soon the routine of being a Pokemon Lab pokemon was engrained into my mind. Days passed weeks faded a month went by, and then two. I thought no one would ever want that cute little totodile there, because they all wanted fire types, like those charmanders and cyndaquils.

When they did choose the odd grass type, it was usually a treecko or bulbasaur; the water types that usually went were mudkips, squirtles, or that other totodile. But never me not ever me; one day, that would change, though, I was sure of it.

On a fateful day in the winter, I sat in my pokeball, cozy in its virtual warmth. Professor Willow was out and busy that day, so it was left to my elderly caretaker to distribute starters to beginning trainers it was my lucky day. From within my pokeball, I recalled the familiar sound of the door opening and air rushing into the lab.

Um hello, a girl said, Id just like a totodile, please.

She knew what she wanted, that was for sure.

I have the exact pokemon for you, my elderly caretaker said. I almost just busted out of the pokeball with excitement. She placed her wrinkly hands on the pokeball and handed me over to the girl. Ive always liked that one, make sure to take care of it.

The girl had dark hair, pretty purple eyes, but she seemed quiet; nothing like that rambunctious boy who had taken my gene-parent away. She appeared hesitant was she going to change her mind? No, dont do that! I pleaded and almost to answer my plea, she smiled. She held the pokeball firmly and I felt safe for some reason. May I release the totodile? she had asked my keeper.

She nodded and stepped aside, giving my new trainer room to unleash havoc. I appeared before her in a small flash. She probably noticed that she was tall and I was small, so she knelt down beside a kind thought. How about I call you Akita? she said to me.

A new name? This meant letting go of my past and moving onto a new future; a future with this girl, even if I didnt know her name. Okay, I nodded, grinning with all my little teeth.

Akita It was a good name.

You know you didnt actually tell me your name until a while after, I chuckled, reminiscing, albeit feeling a bit lonelier now. My stomach had quieted its angry growls, and I faced away from the doorway. How much longer would I be here? How would I ever get? Would Kaizanu come save me? Kaiz My eyes felt heavy and sleep was fast upon me. Dont forget me.

Whos Kaiz?

Kaiz?

Go away.

Kaiz...! Get the hell up.

Kaizanu blinked several times, but the sun was too bright, even the figure that blotted out the sun was blindingly brilliant. Ugh how can you be so fucking cheery? she asked. Sitting up, she suddenly felt the rush of liquor and a headache the size of the mainland. Where the hell am I? Looking around, nothing looked familiar, but that same, queasy feeling of overdrinking was somewhere in the pit of her stomach. Why the hell are you here Sataro?

Each pause was like she was going to puke up her stomach she really wanted to, anyway. Kaizanu had never been able to keep her alcohol down.

Im here, because youre on the beach with a bloody face, the man, presumably Sataro, exclaimed. What the hell were you doing last night?

Not drinking? she said sarcastically. Her puffy eyelids indicated crying, but Sataro only realized something was wrong when Kaizanu was avoiding his questions, replacing honest answers with sarcastic jackass comments. Dozing off again, she just cuddled up against the warm sand of Kevin Baconvilles beach. A heavy hand laid his grasp on her shoulder and she was lifted. No more please she mumbled in a slightly whimsical way.

Kaizanu felt the heat dissipate and her skin became cool drips of ice cold water dribbled onto her face. Im drowning! she yelled, sitting up quickly. Fuck, my head. She felt like her brain was in a jar, moving around in a thick, syrupy liquid. Groaning, she looked around she was under a little umbrella now, and the shaded figure from before appeared as an actual person now. Are you going to give me a sip of that? she asked.

This? he indicated a glass of water, Yeah, thats just abusive otherwise. He handed over the glass, but he still noticed a little tension in her eyes when she refused to look at him. So, are you going to tell me why youre so down?

Looking away, sipping the water slowly, she seemed to lose her appetite, putting down the glass not soon after. For a long time, Kaizanu didnt speak, move, or (apparently) breathe; she continued to play back the sequences of the days before Sataro finding her on the beach. Trying to find her voice or at least, a sentence, to explain what had happened.

Here, let me get that, he approached her face with a small napkin. Your brow furrowing opened your cut. Showing Kaizanu the napkin, he put it in her hand. Tell me, what happened.

Kaizanu looked at the napkin before balling it into her fist, wringing it, tearing small pieces off of it. Stalling was not something Kaizanu was known for, in fact, she was known to be straight forward and give people the blunt, honest truths.

They took Akita.

-----
Posted Image
Come on, Aki, were going fishing! Kaizanu happily said, encouraging her best friend to follow. A polluted city was no place for Akita to be in the beach would be better for her scales and eyes. I want to see if we can find a few corphish and krabby.

Feral, Akita nodded, lowering onto her fore-claws to walk there. She nudged Kaizanu onto her back and decided to take the fast way running!

Wind flowing over them, the air was not sticky, but cool. The fast-setting sun would leave the once-hot stand cool underfoot. Without much delay, Akita was flinging sand everywhere, white sand with shell chunks just being crushed further as the feraligatr bulldozed her way to the sea. Gatr! Ah, the cool sand beneath her claws was wonderful.

As water splashed onto their skin, Akita stopped, flinging Kaizanu into the salty, but welcoming waves. Not even a second later, Kaizanu plunged into the sandy waters of the shore, only to resurface, eyes burning. Ah, you suck, she yelled sarcastically.

Standing up onto her hind legs, Akita bowed, mouthing sarcastic thanks. A big grin plastered her jaw and she dove in after her trainer. The murky waters were no match for the feraligatrs built-in goggles, searching for the telltale dragging feet of her human counterpart. Occasionally, she would brush up against soft skin, momentarily surfacing to fill her lungs. Li gatr, she said, settling beside Kaizanu.

Hey, glad you decided to come back, she said, scratching Akitas tough hide. Lets look for those crustaceans. Taking hold of the teal crest, she asked the strong pokemon to start a slow swim. Pokemon were found in abundance in the Riviera reef, not so much on the polluted shores of Kevin Baconvilles beach.

While a little too late, Kaizanu pulled out a pair of goggles and strapped the on over her face, followed by a small mask she had bought from the Opaddeka Military Establishments supplies. She looked almost alien, with her dark mask and wet hair. Lets go down, she managed to say, albeit very muffled.

Her eyes felt a little hot from the salt grains, but it wasnt enough to deter her exploration of the fast approaching reef. The waters slowly became clearer, but the dark light of the setting sun made it hard to see, but beautiful at the same time. The reefs were lit up with a burning fire, intense passion surged through the pokemon life as gentle flecks of light reflected and refracted from scales and thin waves.

Its beautiful, Kaizanu thought, nearly forgetting to breath in the freshly filtered air.

Pokemon of the reef were preparing for their nightly naps or hunts. So many more pokemon could be seen in the depths, but few were willing to approach as they acted according to schooling behaviors and ambush instincts. Akita swam close to the multitude of pokemon, Kaizanu following as close as her swimming prowess allowed.

From a crevice, large claws reacted instinctively to probing, seemingly innocent swimmers. Craw! he gurgled. His claw grazed along Kaizanus leg, giving away his position. As a cloud of blood dirtied the twilight waters, Akita whipped about, ready to defend her trainer, obviously hurt, but, at least, not badly.

Jaws gaping like spear points at an enemy, Akita raced forwards.

-----
Posted Image
And she defended me, Kaizanu said, looking down, holding the cut on her leg. In comparison to the one on her face, it was not so bad.

Sataro, obviously not satisfied at this explanation, exhaled deeply. Kaiz, thats not the whole story. It doesnt explain anything, you know that, right? He was not so sure that his friend was still right in the head, after all, that gash was large and very prevalent. Are you absolutely sure shes not in the P.C. or on your belt? He definitely wanted a better explanation.

Positive, she said with confidence. Each pokeball on her belt had a special mark, but there was only one empty pokeball. They were all standard issue red-and-white variety, but they each had a small sticker on it, indicating type and pokemon. Akitas pokeball had a white-outlined water droplet, teal with gold and white detail. If shes not here than shes not with me.

Unclipping the well-kept pokeball, she held it for a moment before passing it on to Sataro. A few scratches indicated use, but the smooth surface indicated how often the pokeball was held. Sad tints in Kaizanus eyes lingered as she stared at the sticker on the pokeball before she regained possession of the pokeball. I wish I knew where she was, she added.

Maybe I can help you, Kaiz, Sataro offered, I bet Kalcifer can help us track him. Kalcifer was Sataros umbreon, a friendly face during these times, but Kaizanu knew otherwise.

He cant help.

And that was it. Kaizanu knew that when a scent hit water, especially the salt smell of the ocean, there was no scent to trace.

Good job, Aki! the trainer signed.

Akita had successfully demolished the ambushing crawdaunt. Nothing stood in their way now, and Kaizanu felt accomplished for the night. The fast setting sun was readying for another job on the other side of the world, but the moon, the essential guide of the night, decided to be full that night. Breaking the surface of the cold, cold water, the pair breathed in air jealously, but only after removing the proper apparatuses (in Kaizanus case).

So, do you just want to make a small fire and warm up? Kaizanu asked. She had many pokeballs on her belt, but the only pokemon to have her attention for the night would be her beloved Akita. Ill gather some dry drift wood, dig a small pit, if you could, kindly, she had given the easier task to her companion and decided to head off to scan the beach for its scarce pickings.

It was not long until the fire pit was dug and the drift wood set on fire by sheer luck. Mmm, toasty, Kaizanu laughed, poking at the embers with a small twig she had found, stacking a small loose bush she had found on top of the blazing parts.

Akita had curled up to Kaizanu, watching the flame contently. The cool light of the moon and warm rays of the fire kept them at a neutral temperature; that kind of quiet mood where silence is neither awkward nor long. They had pleasure in each others company, and no thoughts could change that. Flickering fingers of the fire licked their now-warmed faces, lulling them to sleep with its magical powers.

Good night, Kaizanu said to Akita, curling up with her knees tucked to her chest, falling asleep next to her mighty alligator companion.

Fer ali, Akita gave in reply.

The sand muffled the sound of approaching feet, but the light did not allow their shadows to hide. Elongated across the sands, they appeared as demons, reaching as far as their chained bodies would allow, trying to escape the fires righteous warmth and light. Noticing the scent of the figures, not yet drowned by the salt oceans cleansing waters, Akita opened her eyes.

Two people were standing in the orange glow of the dying embers looked upon them with vicious intent. They did not meet Akitas eyes level with respect, but they looked down on her with greed. Gator, Akita growled, using her arm to put a wall between these strange men and Kaizanu.

Hmm What is it, Aki? Kaizanu yawned, resisting the urge of rubbing her eyes. The blur in her vision disappeared as she blinked a couple times, seeing two dark shadows in the rising smoke. Who are you?

They were both dressed in nice suits, dark gray (black, maybe), and wore a crisp navy blue dress shirt. One had a goldish-yellow tie and a badge with stylized letters for Z, N, and P. The other wore a loose bandana of the same color. Are you Tyzin, Kaizanu? the one wearing the badge said; he wore a stolid faade as he lit a cigarette, illuminating his stony gaze. We are from a very powerful organization; were afraid that youve stumbled across our property.

Im not sure what youre saying, she replied, eyebrows quirked. The only thing she had gotten possession of recently would be a fossil she acquired from the data plain, Poketechopia. Oh, you mean the helix fossil, right? Theyre not that rare, I assure you; a powerful company would have no problem obtaining one. Of course, her simple explanation did not pique their interests, not even a nod was given.

The second, a small woman, stepped forward and replied, I assure you that we are not after such a meager object. She pointed at the pokemon standing just a little in front of Kaizanu now. That is our property.

Kaizanu suddenly realized the depth of her situation, a gun that had been expertly concealed revealed itself as she took hold of its grooved handle. The gun was pointed towards the two strangers, but they had already drawn their own weapons they resembled the Tommy Guns of a mobster era, nevertheless they were still effective and intimidating.

What the hell do you want from her? Kaizanu managed through angry eyes. You know what? I dont care, youre not getting her!

The standoff was brief; once Kaizanu let loose a round into the sand the beach was set ablaze with the smell of smoke and gun powder. The flashes from shells being ejected were blinding and strange, dodging was hard on the sandy terrain, but they both managed to get free of shots, at least for a short while. Grazes, by sheer luck, saved their lives as small cuts and burn appeared across their pale skin.

Damn it, Kaizanu snarled, timing a shot for their gun, only to miss and hit the mans shoulder, and by that token, not a bad trade off. Akita! Make it hard to see!

Shit; you bitch! the man screamed, dropping the gun like a weight. A light weight knife was drawn to replace his weapon as he ran towards Kaizanu. The attack did not come in time to save the trainer from the pain. Knife came upwards and cut her brow, nearly slashing her eye with it.

No pain came to Kaizanus senses; in fact, the attack had not registered until her vision grew red hot lines of blood making her skin flush. Enraged by this attack on her trainer, Akita let loose the storm ice formed on their weapons as the cool numbed the wounded brow. A roar that could not be described ripped from Akitas massive jaws, surging on the enemies, just as a mad dog, their guns and blades were snapped from their arms, broken and made useless.

Perfect, one of them smiled, though Kaizanu did not see. The sharp cold of the blizzard made them all shiver, but a collar was thrown over Akitas head. Shocks throbbed through her body, subduing the grand beast. Feral! she cried, tugging at the sudden tightness about her throat. Her claws could not rip it to scrap, and its bizarre powers drained her vigor. Slouching some now, Akita called weakly to Kaizanu.

The trainer, still down on the ground, snow piling onto her shoulders, reached for Akita, desperation in her voice, begging her not to leave, for them not to take her away. Akita! she screamed. The snow slowly masked the thieving pair as Akita was dragged from her sights. AKITA!

Akita, she sobbed, looking down at her feet, grinding her enamel together. Her palms grabbed at her hairs, pulling at them. Tears rolled down her cheeks and soaked her sand-dried pants. I couldnt help her, and she must hate me now.

Watching her pitifully wipe away her tears, Sataro felt the same sadness in his heart. If Kalcifer was ever taken from him, he was sure that he would fall into the same state but, he also knew that if he was in such an unforgivable self-pity, Kaizanu would snap him out of it. New idealism grew in his heart; lifting his hand, he gently laid it upon the other trainers shoulder. Following, he gave her a slap.

Snap out of it, Kaiz. If Akita is gone, she would want you to go and find her, no matter the obstacle, he looked at her, searching for something in those startled eyes, You know that, right? She would do the same for you.

Looking at Sataro, any rage she might have had against him was extinguished immediately. Thats right, Akita would want Kaizanu to save her. Then thats what Ill do, she declared, eyes turning serious and manner becoming resolute. Ill save you, Aki, I promise, standing, Kaizanu was ready to take on her promise.

Sudden dizziness explored her brain, disorienting the trainer for a moment.

Wow, Kaiz, you sure youre okay? Sataro asked, having sprung forward to catch the potential face-planter.

Grabbing her temple, Kaizanu nodded, Umm I think so. I think I felt Akitas aura her presence just now. Dazed, she glanced around, but nothing was there, only the cool breeze coming off the salty oceans waving crests and troughs.

K

There, again, she said with happiness, Akita, is that you?

N-, th-- i- Mugen.

The messages were broken and far in-between. Had Akita contacted with a psychic type? Otherwise, Kaizanu had not a clue. Do you know Akita, Mugen? She assumed that was its name, after all, it was the only thing that came clearly to her. The voice was definite and calm, somewhat happy, but possessed a serious tone.

Mugen? What the hell are you talking about, Kaiz? Are you okay, do you have a fever? interrogation had never been a strong point of Sataros, but it was for sure that he could ask questions in rapid succession.

Kaizanu looked at him indignantly, as if he had interrupted a phone conversation, Shh I wont hear him.

Creepy At this point, Sataro was unsure whether or not Kaizanu had contracted some form of schizophrenia at that point. After all, the dark type he owned, an umbreon, had no way of communication akin to their psychic counterpart, so at this point in time, he decided to be safe and label Kaizanu a little loony.

F---lig--r, y-s. S-- want- t- -e re-cue-. Still, only fragments came through, but it seemed the psychic type had locked onto Kaizanus wavelength. Ziak Nizyt Pok-m-- Org-niza--on.

Kaizanu repeated to herself the last part of the sentence; it appeared that this entity wanted to tell her something, but she didnt understand. What the hell was a Ziaknizyt? Furthermore, what Pokemon Organization was this presumably pokemon entity mean? Maybe maybe Sataro knew! Sataro, startling her friend, What is a Ziaknizyt? her eyes were filled with that if you dont tell me right now, Im going to rip your balls off-angry expression.

Backing away from his childhood friend, he looked at her as if she had just told him the most stupid fact in the world. Do you mean Ziak Nizyt, as in two words? As in ZenPo? he asked, afraid that a question for an answer would result in castration er death. He tried to fill in any blanks Kaizanu might have had: Its a pretty small organization, focusing on a friendlier way to capture pokemon and raise them. They dont stand out very much, why do you ask?

Ziak Nizyt Pokemon Organization thats what Mugen told me. They might have Akita, Kaizanu said confidently. Do you know where it is?

Sighing, Sataro looked at Kaizanu and only saw stupidity. You come to Kevin Baconville and dont even bother to buy a city map? he rolled his eyes, Ill take you there, Kaiz, and Ill help you find Akita, but youre going to have to promise me: buy a map whenever you visit some place new.

Waste of money! Kaizanu declared, trying to keep the cheery, sarcastic mood going. It was the only thing keeping her from looking to booze for a comfort.

Feh. But you know I dont think ZenPO will have Akita. Theyre an organization for peace and pokemon. Are you sure?

The sudden dark aura returned to cling to Kaizanus sour mood. Her eyes looked down, then back to Sataro, meeting his gaze. Yes, Im sure. Every company has at least one corrupt officer; I dont see why ZenPO cant be just completely corrupt. Its not the first time I would have seen a presumably good company with a fancy motto turn out to be bad. We have to go now, Kaizanu said, Ive got a dire feeling that if we wait, Akita might not make it.

Hmm Kaiz seems like a fun person!

I nodded; my mood had been lifted since this visitor came. It, or rather, he, as he preferred, was kind, offering to help me communicate with the outside. He was an unusual pokemon, but I recalled seeing one in a textbook before, but not of this color (he kind of looked like me); I doubted that Kaizanu had seen a pokemon like him though. When she comes for me, would you like to leave this damn place as well?

In his single eye, he showed uneasiness at the question. Im not sure, he said to me, Ive lived here my whole life, and I think they treat me well they treat you like a queen! Youve got your own big room and everything, mines really small and we cant even turn around. Theres no privacy either...

I laughed. Treated like a queen, eh? I knew that this pokemon had been sheltered his whole life, but I didnt think it was this bad. My grin made him grin, in his own way, his eye grinned for him and he seemed like a sweet pokemon. Well, to tell you the truth, your concept of being treated like a queen is a little skewed. I guarantee, though, if you meet Kaiz and see the world with us, youll feel like not a king, but an equal.

What? he tilted his rounded head a little, the soft grinding of his joints was a calming, somewhat natural sound. I heard the world was a scary place, and if we tried to go there, the people there would be mean to us. The pokemon would hurt us, and we would be ridiculed by society! He put emphasis on the last part, levitating a slight bit higher, trying to mimic the swell in his voice.

I cant deny that pokemon wont hurt you, but thats because we battle to get stronger, and some humans treat us like equals. Theyll love you; Kaizanu would love you. She treats me like she would a best friend, we do everything together, and I dont doubt you would be treated any different.

Finally, it appeared as if the strange pokemon registered the word equal. He looked like he was trying to imagine it that equality with the humans. All his life, they had treated him and all the others like slaves, but it had been the only thing he ever knew, knowing no differently, he, Mugen, felt conflicted. But they love me here; they need me.

I shook my head, No, they dont. Look, youre more special than any other beldum in the group. Youve got white steel and golden claws. If they treat you the same, they dont know the value of individuality. I looked at him and nodded, agreeing to my own opinion, Imagine, walking side by side with a human, eatin- grrroowwlll. I looked at the bucket in the corner again, that dirty container filled with meat.

Rotating his head again, Mugen looked around to where I was staring. Oh, oops Sorry, I should have asked, do you want water or food?

My head felt like it was thrashing as I nodded vigorously at the proposal. Yes, yes! Both would be amazing, please! I was so happy, had the bars just randomly disappeared, my new acquaintance would be squeezed by my might. I watched him approach the bucket and envelope it in a bluish-white aura, levitating it towards the bars of my cage I could almost taste the meat.

Number VII! a voice accused. What the hell are you doing? Did we say it was feeding time? An angry man, not too visible when the blinding light was his background, showed himself. He grabbed at my bucket and set it back down. Number VII, why are you even in here? Get out! He didnt grab my new friend, but instead Mugen just obeyed. No pleading no asking for justice for the one in the cell.

Hey! Dont do that! Fight back! I called, but my voice was more like a blood lusting roar to this inexperienced human. Mugen didnt even look back; what a coward, I thought. Humans and pokemon, I believed, should be equals. FIGHT BACK! I screamed, suddenly, I remembered the hammering echoes as my sonic cries were converted into kinetic strikes. I flinched in pain and curled up, trying to cover my ear holes as well as possible, waiting for the pounding sounds to go away.

Then, the door slapped shut, not even a line of light left for me.

Blinding lights lit Mugens pathway as he floated behind the angry keeper. He kept his gaze low, as he always had, before looking up at his keeper. His keeper was a tall man, blonde hair. This was, in fact, the leader of ZenPO; Ziak himself. Although he shared the organizations name, it had been named after his grandfather, as he had been, but unlike his kin, he did not share the same dream of a more peaceful world with pokemon. What are you staring at? Ziak sneered, looking back at Mugen.

N nothing, the beldum replied. His singular eye looked away and back at the well-tiled floor. What would it be like, to be equals with a human? Mugen inquired, Would it mean that they would be nice to me? What is nice? He knew nothing of the outside world, and he had been told his concept of reality was distorted; so, if not like right now, what was the outside world really like? He was tempted to ask.

Number VII, get in your block, Ziak ordered, pointing to a small box in the wall engraved with the aforementioned number.

A brief nod and he went in backwards; after all, he could not turn after going in, so it was best to be able to look out. Number VI, his block neighbor, stared at him with a curious gaze. Where have you been, Mugen? the curious neighbor, preferring she, asked. You have no idea how mad Ziak was when you werent at your station he ordered everyone back in their block.

The barred door was closed and the striped shadows fell upon him, the darkness engulfing him as he said to the wall, Im sorry, Mia. I noticed one of the cell doors was open. Theres a feraligatr in it. Shes very nice. Conversations through block walls werent unusual, but to avoid being reprimanded by Ziak, they often kept their voices in each others minds.

Is she? Nicer than me? Mia teased. She made a happy expression, but somewhere she felt a little hurt.

Noticing this change in mood, Mugen was quick to reply, No, not nicer than you, but shes strange, you know like me. He showed his block neighbor a small vision of the ferocious feraligatr. The sad look in her eyes and the strength in her heart all of it could be conveyed through their psychic minds. I think she misses her trainer the one called Kaiz.

Mia shrugged mentally. They all changed their minds, you know that. All humans from the outside dont really care for their pokemon. How many times does Ziak have to tell you that? She seemed dead set on her ways. Its no wonder he gets so mad when you try to put hope into these condemned pokemon.

But thats not true, he thought weakly, I met Kaiz through a connection I felt all the pain and sadness; that determination of a true he-.

What do you know about a true heart, Mugen? You dont have one, why is it such an important organ to you? she spat with anger. The overwhelming upset in her thoughts began to pound Mugens brain and sap away his stamina. Organs arent important to us; only our mind. Remember that, Mugen. Remember what Ziak learned you!

The connection was cut.

The sheer ferocity of Mia had scared him. He never really knew how dedicated to Ziak she was. Well, he did suppose that it was correct, after all, Ziak had hatched them all. Actually, that was not quite the truth either, he had created them from a strange machine. Mugen knew that there were hundreds of them, beldums, but they all had different names, at least to themselves, and their numbers had been etched onto their bodies.

From the time they were first manifested into this world, Ziak had told them that the world was corrupt and trainers were wrong. No one loved pokemon and they were all just slaves. And yet, he told them, it was paradise in this place; this place, away from the outside world, was the only valid sanctuary for their souls. Soul Mugen began to ponder, if I dont have a heart, does that mean I have no soul?

Mugen had always been different, never quite listening to what Ziak had to say. He was curious, and he wanted to know about the world, but his block neighbors and companions always condemned his choices. They all agreed with their keeper, that this place was a paradise. Born in this place, he never understood exactly how the outside reality was different, bad, or terrible. All he knew was that whenever Ziak brought back a pokemon from there, they would be extremely sad. Some even killed themselves.

But Ziak was always right: their trainers never came for them.

So does that mean that Akitas friend will never come for her? suddenly realizing how hopeless the situation was. Had he just been feeding her lies and false hopes? He hoped not, after all, he really did wish to see the outside world. Even before this feraligatr arrived, he had had his own fabricated stories of the outside world, what it would be like. There were many things he still did not know: what the color of the sky was, how many different humans there were, and what these battles were like.

His earlier hesitations had faded. Now, he was determined to see the outside world.

Akita Akita! Are you there? he asked through a previously established connection.

So hungry

Hey! Pay attention!

Sthat Mugen?

Yes. Now, pay close attention.

What? I exclaimed in dismay, Youre going to break us out? I could not believe it. Only about ten or so minutes ago, Mugen was indecisive over the mere thought of going to the outside, and now he was prepared to break out and help me find Kaizanu. You can be serious?

I am very serious, the thought came to me. I could feel his unyielding passion. I want to see the sky, lakes, pretty places, and the world! I cant do that if Im stuck here my whole life. Everyone here is so monotonous; theres no change no action!

To be as honest as possible, I was taken aback. How could such a creature have such high expectations? Youve got a big heart, you know that? I smiled to myself. He was so kind, and he didnt even know it. In a way, I was proud that he could see things my way for a change, and that his brainwashing faded away to reveal a greater mind.

No reply came.

Mugen? I asked, You there? Shrugging, I decided that the metal walls had blocked out the wavelength momentarily. Psychic abilities seemed to be like wireless connections: prevalent one second, then just plain dead the next. Little to my knowledge, Mugen was just very happy and quite possibly exploded. I chuckled to myself, settling down into my cell once more, my eyes were still pinned on the meat bucket.

Fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on my current view, my appetite had decided to fly the coop. With nothing to focus on, I could feel my eyelids grow heavy with boredom. Boredom was something Kaizanu seldom let settle on us, her pokemon, so this was a new feeling that made me feel as if time had stopped.

Akita are you sleeping?

I snapped out of my dozing state and shook my head. No. Had I actually fallen asleep? How many minutes or seconds had gone by? I didnt know, and I was pretty sure that Mugen wouldnt be able to tell me. So, howre we going to get out? I was eager to leave this cramp cell: my limbs ached, and I could feel my scaly skin being rubbed raw from the floor.

No idea. But Ill think of something.

Serious? I was now feeling a little exasperated, but I guessed that Mugen still had a little ways to go, after all, he was new to the whole rebellion thing. Thats okay, I sighed, Can you tell me where Kaizanu is? Im worried that she wont be able to find this place.

Sure, okay, Ill try, Mugen thought. The silence was irritating my patience, which was already inflamed, but I knew that the beldum would give me good news, whether or not I asked. She is the emotions in his thoughts were amazing, almost excited. Shes actually at the front counter of the main building but it looks like theyre telling her to leave. He seemed a little disappointed, conveying to me this explanation.

Kaizanus in the building, I could hardly believe it. I had to repeat myself, Kaizanus in the building. I still couldnt believe it. She was there, so close I had to go meet with her, tell her I was okay. Tell her were here! Tell her not to back down! I couldnt let myself down now, I had to break free Kaiz needed me as much as I needed her. The period of separation had been short, but I missed her so much, I could tear my heart out.

I cant.

My brow furrowed, Why not? You can tell where she is, right? I didnt understand, if a psychic can see where someone is, what was the difference between that and communication?

My power its long range capabilities are being suppressed, he was sad. He didnt have to tell me why, or how; I already knew. His cell neighbors had decided that communication with a human was out of the question. They had been taught never to speak to a human before one inquires for them to do so, which included, but was not limited to: answering a question, reporting statistical information, or confirming a report.

Then there is only one way to tell her, I said confidently, You know your plan to escape? Well, I have one. I felt hesitation come from Mugen once more, Its now, or never, Mugen. I cant break out of my cell, but you can. I had already tested the bars, too strong, even for my bite. The walls, as mentioned before, would take weeks, even months, of continuous bashing until I got through, but I didnt have that kind of strength.

When Mugen didnt respond, I felt a sudden worry. Was he backing down? I know you can do it, I really do. I believe in you; youve got a good heart, I trusted. Trust and hope were the only things I still had. I knew that I could depend on Kaizanu to help me get out, but I could only depend on Mugen to guide me to her, or vice versa.

From what I already knew, the structure of this building was like a maze. Doors led to hallways, hallways led to rooms, those rooms led to more doors and then it was like an endless labyrinth. I finally realized why there were so many beldum they were the navigators. Without them at their proper areas, anyone down here would get lost.

Mugen do you really want to live the rest of your life as Number VII?

Live the rest of my life as a number? No Mugen said to himself, angry and sad over being just one uniform entity. And yet, he was different from all of them; he had a mind, he had an appearance, but most of all, he had the desire to break free.

Mia, alarmed at Mugens muttering, banged against her block to catch his attention. But there is strength in numbers dont you remember that? she pleaded, trying to change her block neighbors mind. Without the number between VI and VIII, the chain will be broken! Do you really want to ruin that?

The white beldum would have frowned. No one wants Seven anyway. Seven is an outcast, Mugen replied solemnly. He sent a mental image of blinding silvery-white light and golden claws. He was different, and they all knew it, but they tried to treat him the same.

But everyone needs Seven. Ziak said that VII is a lucky beldum and number! Mia yelled. She projected warmth and a homey atmosphere, fear in her metallic soul that maybe Mugen would leave. Ziak and the rest of the beldum needed him.

How is Seven lucky? Mugen grinned, Didnt you know that Seven ate Nine? Mad laughter erupted from his block as he giggled uncontrollably. He wasnt even trying to hide his madness now; he only wished to be free of all these regulations and cages!

The hyena-esque laughter was appalling to Number VI. Are you even taking any of this seriously anymore?! Her anger radiated enough to burn parts of Mugen, but he did not seem to notice or mind. If! If you try to help that feraligatr Ill! Ill warn Ziak! Mia threatened, ferocity growing into biting rocks and pummeling boulders.

Harharhar, Mugen smiled, Whats that pushover going to do anyway? Akita is strong and invulnerable. She is like a god who has showed me a new world! His declaration made him swell with pride, because this god had chosen him to liberate from the prison known as ZenPO. I will aide her in becoming free and united!

Mugen felt a rush of adrenaline, or something akin to that, his eyes narrowing. From madness, the emotions transformed into sober bliss; solemn eyes looked through the bars unable to contain this soaring bird. Im getting out of here! he stated. His white orb-head shined with sudden strength, power overwhelming his senses as never before as he rushed the gates of hell with his head as a battering ram.

Crash!

The barred door flew across the hallway, lodging itself between empty bars, leaving Mugen free, hovering in astonishment at his feat. Wow. Feeling sharp daggers in his back side, he turned to see Mias intense eye staring him down. I dare you to do whatever you want, but Im no longer Number VII. It is Futeki, Mugen!

Futeki meaning fearless and Mugen meaning infinite; so, in a sense, he had called himself Infinitely Fearless, to have no fears.

He looked to Mia one last time, but this time, he met with silent, somber eye; did he truly have the heart to leave? Im sorry, he stated. Averting his gaze, breaking their connection, he threw himself at his block. His golden claws cut clean into the soft metal, destroying the integrity of the raised numbering. Im not a number anymore.

Gone, just like that. Mugen had gone to become the literal knight in shining armor.

Mugen! Youll Youll regret it! Mia called after him.

Whats the issue?

Mu- err Number VII! Hes gone mad!

Is that so?

Yes sir.

Anything else to report, Number VI?

Sir, there is a rowdy girl at the front desk, also; I suspect she is the owner of the feraligatr.

I see. Please, meet me at the front desk in exactly ten minutes. Mark? Yes, please tell the girl and her friend to be patient. I will be there shortly.

Youre going to let me see the fucking president, right now! Kaizanu screamed, grabbing the scrawny receptionist by the collar he had a small nametag with Mark engraved into it. She could see the fear in his eyes, but that wasnt going to stop her staring daggers right into his brains. I dont fucking care if youre going to call the goddamn security. I want to see the president, before I rip your balls off!

Sataro noticed the twitch in the upper corner of the receptionists mouth. No, man, it wont be pleasant at all, he said for him, diminishing any disturbing fantasies the receptionist had. Now my friend would just like to see the president, please. Theres no need to call security, or kick us out, acting like Kaizanus outer conscious, he hoped to make peace between the blood thirsty girl without her pokemon and the scrawny kid behind the counter.

He seemed ready to stop putting up a struggle. Sorry maam, itll only be a moment longer. The President will see to you shortly, he said finally, complying to their demands. Ill have to ask you to sit quietly.

Giving the impression of being satisfied, Kaizanu inhaled and then exhaled calming down. Fine, she replied. Pushing the receptionist in the chest as she let go of his collar, he was quick to disappear, leaving the front lobby void of people, except, of course, the pair of trainers, one of which was an anger ball of who knows what.

Kaiz Chill. He could have gotten you arrested for assault, you know? I dont want to go busting you out of jail, Sataro said, sitting down in one of the lobby chairs. I dont know why you assume this organization is the one responsible.

Kaizanu looked away, sitting down with her arms crossed and looking down at her feet. Mugen told me; thats why. And, the name I really think its familiar, yknow, when I really think about it, wrinkling her brow. But I cant remember anything anymore. I dont know why. Her eyes looked sad and broken. Akita would know. On the verge of tears again, Kaizanu didnt know what to do she was always lost without a guide.

Sataro looked at her with sad eyes. Im sorry, Kaiz. Im sure one of your other pokemon would know. Maybe you should ask them?

Shaking her head, she whispered, They would all freak out, worse than me, if they knew Akita was gone. I dont want anyone else to feel my same pain. Its just wrong. You see, Ive got Caedmon and Terminus with me, but Terminus would just break down into tears and Caedmon would go kill someone. She smiled a little. They were all just a little like her, but part of one spectrum or the other.

Sounds like you, Sataro said, as if reading her mind. Im sure they would understand.

Wait. Whats the name of this company again? she raised the question, but she knew the answer. I think I know! Quick and swift, Kaizanu pulled from her right pants pocket a dirty black wallet, worn with age. Its this guy! She withdrew from one of the grimy pockets a Trainer ID. Him! Ziak Nizyt!

As if on cue, the president arrived. He was young, black haired and red-eyed. You called? he had a vicious, crazed grin on his pale face. Yes, would you like something?

What?! Youre the president? Kaizanu snarled, standing up, readying to grab a pokeball from her belt. You bastard You tried to steal Raziel! And you left this! Throwing the ID at the man, the blunt edge spun into a razor, missing him, but giving an audible CRACK against the wall it hit.

My, my. Someones a little foul tempered. I dont recall trying to steal anything by the name of Raziel, he lied, But thank you for returning my card Ive been looking for it. Now, lets get down to business, what are you doing at my humble organization?

Sataro, a little left behind in all this commotion, barely knew what to say, merely backing Kaizanu up with a pokeball of his own. I dont know what the hell you all are talking about, but if what Kaizanu says is true, youre going to be smacked down.

I dont think you are quite aware of what Im capable of, Ziak, as they had identified him, replied. He snapped his fingers and a blue beldum appeared. On a surface close to her eye, there, right on her body, was engraved VI. Standby, Number VI.

Kaizanu narrowed her lilac eyes, staring down the man before her. Give Akita back to me!

Mugen! You came! I said with happiness. I hadnt realized that the beldum had grown balls; merely that he had just stopped talking. Seeing the confidence in his gaze, I moved to occupy only half of my tiny cell, which was a rather interesting feat within itself. I really cant believe it.

I saw a smile in his eye and overwhelming strength radiating from his entire being. Just cover your ears - ! Glowing with the same shine at before, Mugen felt his body grow tougher. He became like a freight train, building momentum with inertia and ramming the bars once twice! A third time! The bars broke from repeated stress, loud thunderous strikes erupting from the room. Come on! Ziak is going to be an issue for your trainer, weve got to hurry!

Follow Mugen through the debris, my limbs ached from confinement, but my soul felt free and refreshed. The adrenaline was just so great, I could barely contain myself. How long will it take to get there? I asked, knocking the bucket filled with meat aside, showing my ability to resist and my continuing defiance. My fore-claws put marks in the softer tiles as I ran on all fours, managing, despite my weakened state, to keep up with the little flying scrap metal.

Not long, he replied, navigating swiftly through the halls and doors.

Each turn he made, I had to be careful, or else I would be overshot and bump into the door frames. I assumed there was an incredible amount of shrapnel and casualties left behind me, after all, my strong body and thick hide were enough to shatter cheaply bought wood, even if I just grazed it.

Suddenly, Mugen stopped, looking a little disgruntled, but at least I stopped within reason, barely tapping the beldum as I skidded along. Whats wrong? I asked, worried that we wouldnt be able to get through.

The door its locked! He exclaimed sadly. I dont have jurisdiction over this area, so I cant open it He looked sadly down, his eyes and emotions telling Akita that he was sorry.

Sorry? Cant open the door? Are you joking? Step aside, Ill show you what Im capable of! I stood up, placing my strong fore-claws on the metal door. It was not the same as my cage, so it would be broken easily. Now, its your turn to stand back. A smirk formed on her face as she reeled back a fisted hand. Lets break this door down! Her arm and body glowed with sudden strength, reddish hued rays burned from her eyes as she let loose the catapult known as her arm.

A loud, blunt-force noise forced Mugen back, as well as a tiny, sonic shockwave. He felt the metal vibrate painfully before my fist rendered the door nothing but a warped shell of its former glory. Blinding light rushed in from the newly opened door, barely giving me time to admire my newly raw knuckles. I could feel my blood seeping, making my skin sticky, but the scene before me, made my blood boil.

I thought this organization was for the good of pokemon everywhere, Sataro said, finally deciding that ZenPOs president was a nut job. While he had not known Kaizanu had suffered so much as a trainer, he knew that she was strong enough to deal with everything on her own, but never in his life would he have thought Kaizanu would uncover such a comic-book scheme.

Ziak looked at Sataro with a disturbing smile. My grandpa was an idiot, I assure you. Pokemon are stupid and is proven by how we can train them to obey our every order, he said, holding a pokeball with a small leaf sticker on it. Pokemon are nothing but slaves with incredible powers. If we can clone the strongest amongst us, we can have armies of powerfully loyal and dispensable soldiers!

Youre a sick bastard, Kaizanu said. Why the hell did you take Akita, then?

A devilish grin took the place of his disturbing one. Well, you see, for some reason, starter pokemon are genetically different, so when we clone them, when they reach their final evolutionary stage, they take on a dramatic color change, he looked for Kaizanus reaction, In short, Akita is the property of this organization.

Kaizanu exhaled and shook her head. I dont care if she is your property, shes my best friend. Nothing to going to change my mind, so give her here, or face my wraith! Nimbly, she unclipped a pokeball at her belt and tosses it out. It landed with the sound of plastic on tile and broke in two, releasing a rather small pokemon, but nonetheless, he appeared like the blood thirsty maniac he was.

The pokemon in question was a marowak capable of dishing out the hurt. Known as Caedmon, he often wore a scarf made from the hide of a long deceased houndoom and its bracelets and bones as armor. Maro he seemed to feel that something was wrong this was no ordinary pokemon battle, and where was Akita?

In assistance, Sataro released his umbreon. Keep an eye on the Beldum, he warned, his umbreon hissing with rage against the floating pokemon.

Hmm looks like Im in a rut but if thats all youve got, than you might as well pray to die! Ziak laughed, releasing the pokeball that had been in his hand only moments before. It was strange as the pokemon emerged from the capsule, but Kaizanu recalled its dark form the time of Raziels thieving. Kor, he commanded, use Toxic!

Fuck! Cover your mouth! Kaizanu said, throwing her arm in front of her mouth and nose. Caedmon threw his scarf over his nose, while Sataro and Kalcifer did the best they could.

Soon, a thick cloud of toxic chemicals filled the room, but Ziak, seemingly immune, stood there, smiling. The purple petals of the black stemmed meganium released the noxious gas in small ripples, but not even covering their faces could stop the poison from entering their systems.

The marowak and umbreon both gritted their teeth, feeling the hurtful poisons as if they were spike balls bent on rending and destruction. Add a Vine Whip into that mix; put that marowak in its place Number VI, Take Down that umbreon. His instructions were given in a cool manner. Nothing seemed to make him deterred.

Even now, Kaizanu felt each needle poking her lungs as she attempted to breathe, and not long after the first seconds, Sataro had already passed out. Damn it, she barely managed, seeing sun-like rays reach from the dark meganium to grab Caedmon about his waist, squeezing with the ferocity of a hunting seviper or the power of an arbok. Akita we need you.

Kaizanu was out like a light.

I saw two people on the floor, but I only recognized one of them Kaizanu! What the hell are you doing? I hissed, seeing a meganium I knew from a different time. Mugen, hiding behind me, peeked out to see what was going on. A thick fog enveloped everyone. An umbreon and Caedmoon were among the pokemon still conscious, though Caedmon would not be soon. Get your vines off of Caed!

I felt my anger skyrocket, but I was not sure if I saw anything but red at that point.

Mia, dont do it! I vaguely heard Mugen shout, flying passed me in a white streak. Another beldum was rushing towards the umbreon at an alarming speed, but my focus had come onto the meganium now, holding my friend and responsible for their current pains.

You I remember you. Your name is Kor, I stated, feeling my anger at my neck. The heat was immense as the blood rushed to the surface of my skin. I recalled the cries of help and need of Raziel and my attempts at saving him but this pokemon had so much as dared aide in the thieving of a fellow companion. You are nothing but a slave to your trainer, arent you?

For a moment, there was nothing but silence from the meganium.

Fool, put down the pathetic marowak and take down the feraligatr! Ziak commanded behind Kor.

Without a hesitant movement, the meganium before me let loose Caedmon, letting him fall to the ground, unconscious from all his efforts, however little they had been. That made the body count three. No make that four. I saw, in the corner of my eye, Mugen and the other beldum dance their fight was nearly in unison, but Mugen had an extraordinary power unlike her own. Without the damage being dealt to himself, he seemed more apt to keep on fighting, downing the other beldum without much effort.

Now, we were three. You two stand down, I growled, this is my fight; alone.

I saw the umbreon, grateful for being saved by my new friend, nod, seeing truth in my words and the very possibility of my pride on the line. My pride was all I had, and I would have to defend Kaizanus. However, not long after, the umbreon succumbed to the powerful toxins in his body, making the new total five.

But youre too weak! Mugen protested, but I simply ignored him.

Help the umbreon.

I had enough power to defeat this toy soldier. Unlike him, I had been raised with a mind of my own. Come get some, I taunted, but before I realized it, my enemy had already begun his attack. I felt heat build on the back of my neck and the intensity of a sunny day beating against my hide. The need for water was sudden, but I knew that it would only serve to improve my enemy he would need to be frosted over, in order to make him weak.

From the years I had been with Kaizanu, there was always one thing in the back of my mind: how to defeat an opponent quickly and cleanly but first, I had to get close. Throughout my short life, I had learned that my long ranged attacks suffered from my terrible eyesight, but when I got close, it meant the end for my enemies. All I had to do was think of a good plan of action fast; I knew that this heightened light meant.

I noted a small grin forming on Kors mug, and I didnt like it at all. Afraid? Youre outclassed, just like your marowak friend, he laughed, but then he coughed I saw him visibly weakening. He had been poisoned by the umbreons ability.

Had I the option of just killing him that moment, I would have taken it, but it was more complicated than that. Summoning my inner dragon, I saw little nymphs of lizards dazzle about me. A dark cloud enveloped me within its aura and my power surged a huge amount and, while uncharacteristic of my type, small bolts of white lightning gave me strength as I channeled the dragons powerful dance into my body.

I felt every tendon and muscle in my legs grow slack and then tighten; renewed with energy I had not yet forgotten. My eyes burned with the powerful sensation as I stared down my enemy, I swore I could have felt the fear radiate from his antennae. Suddenly, as I breathed, my breath could be seen in the air, freezing the water droplets I happened to exhale. The light frost descended upon my curved fangs as I prepared to rush Kor.

Feet twitching, I dug into the ground leaving huge gouges in the tile, some being torn up and apart as I forced my way towards my new found enemy. Slower than I now, the meganium saw no chance in launching his intended attack, and luckily for me, I would be able to get in close. I fell in line close to my intended target and for only a moment, did I seem to wait as my powerful jaws snapped shut I missed!

Shit.

Kor was quick to react to my mistake, checking me with his body, forcing his weight onto me as he pushed me back. He put in some distance as he backed away, making sure not to make the same blunder as he had moments ago, letting me get close enough to strike. The heat of the lights glowed for a moment, making everyone in the room feel the pulsating heart of true fire.

He also knew that I wouldnt let him perform a devastating attack, either, but he knew he could defend himself. Roaring loudly, I felt blinded for a moment again, and before I could react, my enemy had placed a barrier of light. Each particle, I felt, would hinder my striking speed, and thus, lower my attack, but I had no choice but to fight.

I opened my massive jaws once more, but instead, a loud screeching roar emitted from my throat as I hit the highest notes I could go to. I saw my foe visibly flinch, weakening to my obnoxious call. I smirked. This was the opening I had been looking for! Again, I went to slam against the tiles, but none were there I felt myself slipping as I attempted to go forwards. Shit, I gasped, barely able to make a final lurch forward.

Stumbling, I managed to knock the meganium to the ground, feeling a few muscles spasm from his poison. I watched him narrow his eyes, opening his own toothless maw to let loose a powerful beam one last ditch effort. My arm had been pulled back, and I swung with amazing speed. The air about my fist turned cold and I gained icy gauntlets as I released my strength to punch the meganium. Intense light grew in his mouth this was the last blow.

The beam ripped outwards from his mouth as my fist slammed his tiny beanstalk head. For a moment, I thought I had been hit, but when I opened my eyes, I saw that, like a creeping vine, ice was slowly encasing my enemy. A quick glance left and I saw that his powerful attack had missed me entirely the building was on fire.

You worthless-! I heard Ziak say, but with my tail, I swept him to the floor and was quick in gathering my trainer, her friend, and Caedmon.

Mugen, grab the umbreon! Weve got to get out.

Not even for a moment, did I think about dousing the flames with my watery powers the building deserved to go down in flames. With Kaizanu slung on my back and her male friend under my arm, I rammed through the glass, feeling small pieces cut into my tough hide. Mugen followed after me, with an umbreon have strung on his back. Lets go to the Pokemon Center, I decided, Theyll help us there.

The night air was thick with smoke, but the police sirens had already gone off to attend to other matters, fire trucks had been vandalized, and no one really cared. The building burned with Ziak and his frozen meganium. Whether he got out or not, I did not truly know.

So, what happens after this? Mugen asked, glancing back at the building, remembering all his block neighbors.

I paused, checking Kaizanus vitals. We go on.

Fire, there was fire everywhere smoke, poison, and pain. Suddenly, Kaizanu sat up, gasping for air, but stopping as she felt her body ache. Where am I now? she asked, looking around. The dim setting sun showed through her window blinds, and in the bed next to hers laid Sataro, much less better than she had been.

For some reason, she saw bandages on him cuts? Whered he get those from? Kaizanu was sure that before he had passed out, the floor was tiled and smoothed wait. How did she get here? Hey. Sataro get up!

No more cake please, he mumbled, turning a bit.

Tch. Just like him, she said, rolling her eyes. Hearing some purring, Kaizanu looked towards the sound down at the nightstand. She saw a pair of red eyes looked up at her and a tail faintly wagging behind it. Narrowing her eyes for a moment, unsure of what she saw, it clicked a few seconds later. Oh! Kalcifer! she exclaimed, petting the purring pokemon. Scooping the light weight onto her bed, despite her aching joints, she hugged the umbreon. Tell you what bite Sataro, and I give you a cookie.

She saw the umbreons eyes brighten at the idea, nodding vigorously as he shifted to carefully avoid stepping on his briber. Br-eeon! he cried, jumping from Kaizanus bed to Sataros, biting him as he landed carefully at his shoulder.

Ouch! Sataro screamed. Seeing his umbreon attached to his shoulder was not quite so pleasant. What are you doing? Kaiz, what are you doing in my house?

This isnt your house, retard, Kaizanu pointed out. The beds were clearly akin to hospitals and the telltale hospital machinery gave it away further. We passed out do you know how we got here? Obviously, probably not one of Kaizanus most coherent questions, but she had to ask, really.

He shook his head, his eyes falling to his arm bandaged up to his shoulder. Wow. Howd I get this? he asked, looking to Kaizanu, as if she had the answers.

Hey, dont look at me, Kaizanu replied, pulling the blankets off herself. Im going to take a look around. Momentarily, as she jumped out of bed, she felt every joint ache, forcing her to sit back down. Maybe later. Kaizanu turned her head, noticing items on the nightstand. Three pokeballs were lined up carefully, but in the middle, there was a pokeball with a droplet sticker. Akita?

Instinctively reaching out for the pokeball, Kaizanu felt its cool hard plastic surface in her hand each worn patch from use and the old grimy sticker. Are ya in there? she whispered to the pokeball. Her heart was beating quickly, but she clicked the button to trigger the pokeball to release its contents. A blinding light issued from the cracked orb.

Nothing appeared as the sparkles disappeared.

I guess shes just not here, Kaizanu said, disappointed.

Sataro, sat up in his bed, looking at Kaizanu with a frown. Im sorry Kaiz. Im sure youll find her.

Oh, oh! Theyre awake! exclaimed Mugen happily as he drifted next to Akita. Should we go say hi? I saw his eye grin, excitement that he might get to see the rest of the world with them. He had learned the sky was blue and the sea is green the beautiful sky smells like polluted cars, and fine dining is to make one poor. Please?

I looked at the apples in front of me, picking a nice one or two and nodded. Sure. I just need to pay for these, I said in a low growl, as was natural of my species. The fruit vendor had been staring at me and Mugen, but he hadnt said anything yet.

Sthat all you guys want? he inquired finally, pointing at the two apples I held in one hand.

I nodded, knowing he could not understand me. Here you go, I eventually said, after rummaging through Kaizanus bag (I had taken it with me, because I knew she had zenni in it). I handed over a single bill, probably large enough to pay with, and he gave me some in exchange he called it change. Thank you.

Come again, he said, waving good bye. It was not always odd to see pokemon on their lonesome especially those that had been domesticated. Wish other folks could train their pokemon to be so nice. Though, he had never seen a feraligatr quite so tame before.

I placed the two apples the bag and closed it tight. Alright, lets head out, I smiled, feeling little butterfrees in my stomach I missed Kaizanu a lot, but when she was out like a light, I wasnt sure she would ever wake up. The chansey had told me they would do whatever they could, but the effects of Toxic on a human were often near fatal, especially for one with so many past health issues.

I had a feeling though, that Kaizanu would wake up and when she did, I wanted to give her an apple. She liked apples. Turn left at the next corner, right? I asked my hovering companion.

Yes! he said, a great huge smile beamed to me. I could tell he was happy that he didnt have to give up his job entirely. Do you think shell like me? Do you think shell take me with you guys?

I nodded, Definitely. The door, having arrived at it, opened automatically and I gave a brief greeting to one of the chanseys Nurse Joy had been busy helping a few rookie trainers. I bet shell be thankful, and youll never leave her side thats what Im thinking.

Had he true adrenaline, he might have passed out from the joy.

Well here we are, I announced, looking at the shiny, worn out doorknob. Were back!

Kaizanu stared at her feet. If not in the pokeball, where else would her beloved pokemon be? Kalcifer seemed to protest to the fact that Akita was gone, because every time he heard it, he latched onto Sataro with his pearly fangs. Well then, Kal, where is she? Kaizanu asked, seeing Sataro flinch away from his pokemon.

The umbreon shrugged, motioning his head somewhere in the citys general direction, as if to tell them that Akita had gone out, instead of biting his trainer in protest.

Well, thats good, right? Sataro asked, looking hopeful towards the situation.

Kaizanu nodded, Yeah but I really wished that Akita would have been here when I woke up. So I could say sorry, she thought for a moment, realizing it had been her fault being too weak, to save her. I dont know what to say to her what if she hates me?

Kalcifer shook his head, preparing to bite Sataro for effect, but he was quick to move his arm away from those snappy jaws. Stop it! he complained to his umbreon, who, in return, stuck out his tongue. Ugh, fine, whatever. You know, Kaiz, Im sure Akita wont hate you, you did give it your best shot.

But it wasnt good enough, she said, looking away. I never do anything that benefits Akita Im just a burden to her. For all I know, she probably brought us here, and I havent said thanks yet. I was supposed to be the one doing the rescuing, but all I could do was threaten some receptionist. Shaking her head, she felt useless. What can I do to thank her for everything?

Come on, cheer up, Kaiz. At least were all safe now, he said, trying to reassure her. I know that Akita appreciates you. She really does if she didnt like you, I bet shed already be gone; thats the kind of feraligatr she is.

Kaizanu, for a moment, smiled. I guess youre right.

And without you, Im sure shed have a rough time in the wild her color just wouldnt let her hide very well. He seemed keen on making Kaizanu accept the fact the Akita was there for her, and Kaizanu should never doubt their bonds. If she had the choice, I doubt shed ever take it, anyway.

We all share deep bonds with our pokemon, he implied, scratching Kalcifers chin, and nothing will ever break those, not even one or two incidents. Im sure Akita is grateful for all youve done for her raising her and taking her on a magnificent journey.

Smiling, she decided that everything would be all right. I guess thats true There isnt any obstacle I wouldnt go through in order to save her, because I know shed do the same for me. I just havent been able to repay the favor yet. For a moment, her thought trailed to Akitas color, remembering Ziaks words about clones. And I dont care where she comes from, or how she came to be so long as shell stay by my side until the very end.

Kaizanu saw that Sataro full heartedly agreed. Well, I should probably get back to the Imperial Mountains I just came down here, because I heard some news from your mom. You really should go visit her, she says, I miss my Kaizywizy. Snickering, he jumped to the other side of his bed, picking up his jacket off his nightstand. I need some more training. Referring to the painful toxins that had entered his system, Kaizanu could only decide that he was going to poison himself willfully.

Just dont overdo it. I dont want to tell your dad that you accidentally committed suicide, she jested. I guess I should put together my stuff too. When Akita gets back, I want us to have our girls night out again go to the beach and stuff.

Sataro gave her a thumps up. Sounds like an idea.

Speak of the devil, he laughed, seeing the doorknob turn and light flood the room.

Ferali gatr!

The scene that was a welcomed relief was Kaizanu, awake, walking over to me, stopping and saying, Thanks Aki I appreciate everything, and next time, Ill try my best to be your knight in shining armor. I smiled, hugging Kaizanu. I had missed her and I didnt believe my utter joy when she said those words to me.

I got you an apple, I said, handing over her messenger bag, but not before withdrawing the aforementioned fruit from its depths. Would you like it? Showing Kaizanu the apple, I saw her smile and then nod.

Yes, please, she replied, knowing what I was saying, despite our language barrier but Mugen might be able to break it. How about just us two go to the beach again?

As much as I loved the idea, I shook my head. Stepping aside, Mugen was revealed. He has to go.

For a moment, Kaizanu seemed confused, but after a moment, she realized who this was. You must be Mugen I cant thank you enough. Walking up to him, Kaizanu patted his bulbous head; his eyes conveyed happiness, one that he may have never experienced otherwise.

Youre very welcome, he replied timidly.

Kaizanu smiled and looked to me, then back to the beldum. Would you like to go to the beach with us? No, would you like to go all around the world with us? I havent repaid you yet, for telling me where to find Akita I dont think I can ever repay you, but would you like to at least come with us?

I encouraged Mugen to take a float forward, build his confidence. Id love for you to come with us too, I share, giving him a gentle nudge.

Really? he asked, almost as if he were about to cry.

We nodded.

YES! I want to experience it all! Mugen shouted, swelling with his words in his customary way.

Somewhere in the dark shadows of the room, I saw the man who had accompanied Kaizanu and his umbreon. Thanks for saving me, but we must get going, the dark type said to me.

Youre welcome. If I may ask, whats your name?

Kalcifer; his name is Sataro, Kal gestured up to his trainer, Weve known Kaiz since she was a little girl, so well see you around sometime.

Sataro spoke next, but to Kaizanu, extending his hand for a shake. It was good to see you again, but we really have to get going, if were going to get back for the next snow fall. Staring for a moment, Kaizanu hugged the other trainer.

Thanks for being there. Ill see you another time. And then, we waved good bye to them, knowing that the next time we met, it would mean a friendly battle. I could not wait to test my strength again, hoping that my short three days in the cell had not made me too tired a loud growling sound gurgled from my stomach.

Oh, you probably havent eaten yet, Kaizanu pulled a knife out of her bag, splitting the apple three ways. Here, just to tie you over until we get to the restaurants by the beach. Handing a piece to each of us, Mugen just stared.

I dont eat food, he said, but I merely laughed at him. Its true!

Rolling her eyes in a friendly sarcastic way, Kaizanu gave me his slice. Well, youll be easy to maintain Akitall eat your fill for you. Laughing was all we could do I was happy to be back again and I never wanted to be separated. Come on, times a wasting.

Burping, I tasted the contents of my prior meal krabby cakes, mmm... Kaizanu had taken us to a big name restaurant that allowed pokemon to dine at their tables for that, I was glad. It showed Mugen, who was floating in front of us, looking at new and strange things, that humans could be caring and see pokemon on an equal ground.

Excuse you, Kaizanu smiled, nudging my side.

I gently showed my sarcasm by nudging her back.

OH! Is that the beach? Mugen asked, swerving around, staring at us wide eyed and curious. Is it, is it, is it?! He had become a quite loud and rambunctious pokemon since we left the Pokemon Center. Everything that met his curiosity he expressed by asking us.

Yes, it is, Kaizanu said.

I looked passed Mugen, seeing the beautiful waves crashing upon the sands a sight I had only seen once before, but this time, guaranteed, it would be a peaceful one. Ill race you! I announced, lowering onto my fore-claws, giving my tell-all glance to Kaizanu.

Kaizanu stopped and got ready to run. Im ready!

Wait, what are you guys doing?

GO!

Charging for it, I quickly gained ground, leaving a very confused Mugen and very slow Kaizanu behind me. I heard Kaizanu laughing, knowing how futile it was, but by the time I stopped by the beach, she was not far behind, crashing into me and knocking us into the cold salt water.

Wait! Mugen cried, barely stopping before barreling us all into the water again.

Splashing along the shoreline, we tried to run through the waves, but eventually, we tired ourselves out from the waters resistance. Dragging ourselves onto drier land, we plopped down, watching the setting sun. I sat with Kaizanu next to me and Mugen hovering above me.

Wow thats so awesome, Mugen exhaled, the shimmering light of the sun on the sea reflecting off his polished surface. I cant believe I missed all of this

I cant believe I get to enjoy it, Kaizanu smiled, with all my friends.

I simply looked out towards the setting sun, watching its golden orange fingers reach across the cool waters, setting the sky on fire, but letting it cool like hot iron. Stars began to appear in the velvet sky and our shadows were longs against the beach. Only the sound of the swooshing waves was audible.

Im glad I was created.

"How many assholes we got on this ship anyhow?"
Sorry about the delay. I've been cleaning house this weekend.

Anywho. Long story short - I liked it.

You never let me down Kaiz, this was one worthy of your skills. You gave me a well rounded story with very little to complain about. You stuck to your summery, gave me a well developed characters and made the whole thing feasible. Well done! That being said there were a few spots here and there that were missed in proof reading but that's expected. The biggy is that you asked for a pokemon and didn't give me the admin's name who gave you the go ahead on the free-form. That's not a real problem in that I can get it from you via PM and I know that you know the rules well enough that you would not have overlooked this, but I'm mentioning it here for other people reading so that they remember to give this information as well (To All - I've been pretty lax is asking this so expect it in the future).

Now for your awards and I know there's going to be some questioning this. Beldums per Serebii are not rare pokemon. They're not even uncommon. They're common swarm pokemon and so I'm going to stick to the newly redefined list of exchange rates which goes by the Serebii Platnium ratings. Even making him shiny didn't kill you're final payload by that much. Then you wanted him to know an in-game Move Tutor move, and for him and Akita to have some happiness. So here you go.

You get 1 Level 5 Shiny Beldum that knows Iron Head
Both it and Akita get + 5 :happiness
You get + 3 :fp for your rescure of Akita and Mugen
You also get the remainder of the :exp that you didn't burn which is 15.

EDIT: My bad. Only Co-op's need the item pre-approved then. Sorry.
