Finally. The Blighted Plains. Ironic that this place was where the berry tree sprouted again. It was so... dead. Desolate. Elijah wondered quietly, even going so far as to murmur it to himself, how anything managed to survive in this place. There was... death everywhere. The stench of death and decay, entropy taking its full course. It was almost disgusting in its own way. And particularly sad. Pollution from Y'orek had done all of this, and... well, there was no way to fix this place. Elijah chose to focus on the positives. He recalled some advice he'd heard once - from the Universe itself, at one of their tea and crumpets sessions which he enjoyed thoroughly - as to putting berries in the pot. They had many nutrients and could occasionally serve as substitutes for trees, right? He checked his berry bag - three Starf berries. And with one more on the tree... well, why not cut them up and mix them in? Four Starf berries, rich and full of flavour. That'd make a very good compost. That, of course, was not the point. Luna still wished to look after the tree and that Elijah would grant her as he always did. Epona, meanwhile, had another task, as Elijah once more pulled out his Pokédex and showed her a picture, this time of a Croagunk. "We need one of these, okay? Make it good, girl, and I'll give you a berry." This, of course, made the little pup happy - and she put that delicate sniffer to work. Elijah, having already caught one Croagunk before, knew what to look for - the three of them, together, would be able to locate one in relatively short order. ----- +1 to tree, obviously. Requesting compost mod - to be fair I already know what it'll make, but I follow my own rules. Four rich berries added to a cured Rindo tree Regular Compost. You can take a guess as to what compost this makes. It's all Starf, kay. I will also stab you if you get it wrong. >_> - Looking for a level 49 or lower Croagunk. 0.2 ![]() And you get.... a copper sulphate fertilizer! ..... You finish making the Rich Starf Compost. Meanwhile, little Epona does some scouting out. She sniffs around and does her darndest to try and single out something froggy, but alas: the toxic blight of these lands makes such delicate work a lost cause. But the desolate landscape gives the little growlithe a different advantage. Namely, that sound carries well. And hark, is that a voice I hear? Carried on the stagnant winds of this besmirched land? Forsooth, it is not unlike the Gunk of the Croa. A quick trip across a ridge (which in my munificent wisdom I assume you take) reveals a small, sludgy pond, which looks for all the world like curdled blueberry syrup, with a few slimy rocks poking out here and there. There's some Croagunks sitting on said rocks: two small-ish fellows, and a big granddaddy of a toad on the biggest rock -------------- Lv 49 Lv 40 Lv 40~All sitting on rocks and croaking. |

.1 ![]() Despite the newfound happiness of the berry tree in this bleak landscape... there was another kind of hope. Epona's ears had caught wind of three Croagunks, and there it was. Two youngers and an older. Perhaps this one fashioned himself something of a teacher? Yes... he'd be good for the baby Toad. He did look like a male Croagunk, anyways. Someone to look after the youngling... Elijah did wonder how he was doing. That thought shook itself out of his head quickly as he looked towards the three, standing carefully with Epona at his side. With his friends wounded he'd have to be particularly careful about all this. You know, I took a five-hour break from writing this and lost where I was. So um. There's something in there about Elijah going over to the- oh yeah. Elijah carefully went over to the edge of the pond-thing, careful not to step on anything that wasn't normal coloured or was poisonous or something along those lines and looked over at the big Croagunk (because the rest suck and I don't want them). They were indeed very froggy and now Elijah had to attempt to convince this big frog to come with him. How to do that... Well, normally berries seemed to work, so he pulled out of of his innumerable Rindo berries and held it in his hand. Just in case. Maybe this froggy was amiable anyways? "Hey there!" he said, a smile on his face. A smile and a pleasant tone was good for teaching, after all! And if it worked for teaching, it was all good here. And then he realised... framing this one wasn't going to exactly be easy. So, simply, he held out the berry for the largest one to take, hoping it'd make him at least talk to Elijah some. In the meantime, Luna watered the tree. Because that's what she likes doing. ----- +1 to tree, watering it - offering Lv. 49 male Croagunk a

[.3 ]The elder Croagunks eyes slowly rose to look at Elis out held berries. This mere gesture of been offered a berry like that, was an insult to the frog master. You see, he knew of your intentions. He knew you wished to capture him and he could see through your attempt. The offer of friendship was a tried, tested, and effective method to convince a Pokémon to join your party. Many a trainer had tried to capture him in the past, and many had tried that same tactic. Just like the many that came before, Eli met with failure. The two younger Croagunks were quick to take up a defensive stance. In their eyes, Eli could see their readiness to die protecting their master. A quick word from their master, and they both lowered their guard. Then they sat down, crossed their legs, and closed their eyes. Their master soon joined them. Slowly, the sound of their melodious chanting filled Elis ears. As any good martial artist could recognize, it was apparent they had just begun to do a group meditation exercise. It seems that if Eli wants to get the frog to join his team that he was going to need to try something else. ![]() Lv. 49 147/147 ![]() [Not really interested in the berry. .2 ![]() And after five months of waiting, the story resumes from where it left off. Elijah watched carefully as the largest of the three Croagunks rejected the offer. That was understandable; Elijah understood that sometimes there needed to be other ways of dealing with a problem. Thusly, he'd have to find out the best way to make sure that nothing went wrong without scaring off the other Croagunks about. And then, they started meditating. It seemed that he'd be doing a lot of that in the coming times; he had to do it once to connect to the Meditite that he'd just recently caught, and the hopeful Master of the Fighting-type was certainly going to do whatever it took to truly master that corner of the Pokémon world. So saying, he moved to where he could find a clear spot on the toxins, just a bit away from their pond, and joined in their meditation. He made no sound. No sound was necessary to meditate, though some chose to do it. He could go for as long as they were, he could do it for a few moments, whatever. Sitting in seiza and meditating at the start and end of each class had taught him the finer points of quick meditation. Now he would have to meditate for a long period of time with the Croagunks, in order to at least show them he was willing to work with them, not boss them around. That wasn't his style. But for now, he had to wait. Silently. Once they finished their meditation, maybe he could speak to them and have things work a little bit more in his favour. And, naturally, to the favour of the largest Croagunk there; he would not simply ask to join their team. He always offered something else, something a little bit more personal. That was how he operated. He tried to make sure all his team was happy. ----- - +1 to tree - Meditating with the Croagunks |

[.3 ]Impressive... a tactic not used by many trainers to say the least. Most of them would've already tossed out a Pokemon and challenged the frog's to a battle... but Eli was far from an average trainer. After all, he had the patience needed to master arts handed down from generation to generation something not many were capable of doing. It was this small display that caught the elder frog's attention, much to Eli's delight later on. "Croagunk." The master said to his students. "Croagunk Croagunk?" One of the students asked to their master, with an obvious look of concern, most probably caused by your presence. "Croa..." The master replied with a reassuring smile on his face. "Croagunk!" The frogs replied before lowering their heads in show of respect to their master. The two frogs stood up and walked about twenty feet away from the pool, before turning to face each other. The young frogs then bowed to each other before assuming their combat stances. With a scream the frogs then began to exchange blows, though not with the intention of hitting each other and injuring themselves. Instead they only seemed to be enjoying a friendly sparring match to test out their abilities. The elder frog then stood up from his perch inside pool of sludge to the sit at the border of the toxic pool. His eyes trained themselves on his two disciples as they continued their training bout, intently focused on them, obviously looking for errors or mistakes in their stances and attacks. Only seldom did he say anything to the younger frogs, showing just how far advanced they were in their training. As he continued to watch over his students, the elder motioned for Eli to join him at his side. Maybe he was ready to hear out Eli and see what he wanted. ![]() Lv. 49 147/147 ![]() [Ordered for his two students to have a practice bout, then motioned for you to approach him.] ![]() Lv. 40 120/120 ![]() [Sparring.] ![]() Lv. 40 120/120 ![]() [Sparring.] Edited by Angel, Oct 9 2009, 03:21 PM.

.3 ![]() His silence was finally broken, coming to see the sight that was two students of martial arts sparring, coming together to demonstrate their skill and, ultimately, share their knowledge with each other in order to facilitate their improvement in the arts. Evidently he, as a human, could appreciate this gesture; it was a way for him to communicate with Pokémon without the insane difficulty of overcoming that natural language barrier. It made his life a little bit more easier and, he was sure, theirs as well as their trainer. Finally, Eli allowed himself to rise to his seat, and looked forward; he now had the challenge of getting to the elder Croagunk which was now surrounded by toxic... stuff. Elijah wasn't even sure exactly what that gunk was, and he wasn't exactly keen on the idea of finding out first-hand. It had to be a delicate game of leaping, and his idea was particularly simplistic to pull off. Stepping from his place on the ridge, he leapt down onto one of the few safe places left available and walked forwards to the edge of the toxic pond. Now was the time for a bit of a demonstration of his ability as an athlete. Taking a step back, he took a one-step jump over all those toxins to the closest available rock; coincidentally, it was one the Croagunks had been sitting on before. Just as he once had, he assumed his meditative seated position in seiza and looked to the older Croagunk, prepared to listen to what he had to say, in accepting silence. This was not his place to be pushy. It never was, when dealing with others. Answers would always come to those who waited patiently and those who pushed for them without being foolish about their methods. ----- +1 to tree - Waiting for elder Croagunk's response |

.2 ![]() The older frog watched patiently and with a touch of interest as the trainer rose and seemed to be contemplating the challenge of crossing the toxic gunk. As poison frogs, the Croagunks had no problem with it, it was practically their elixir. Unfortunately, it would probably melt off human flesh. Elijah's long leap prompted a slight raising of a nonexistent eyebrow. The Croagunk shifted slightly in his seat so that he might face the human fully, settling back comfortably and sucking in a deep breath of air that made his cheeks bulge out into orange balloons, before releasing it slowly through his nose. Now that they were all thus arranged and settled, the frog gestured with one paw that the human should start talking, please. Communication might be a bit strained due to human-Pokemon language barriers, but something would come out of it. -- Lv. 49 [Babble. :<] |

.2 ![]() So... it simply wanted to communicate. While he could have asked for help in the matter from Furioso, his Blaziken, he didn't see much of the need to at this point in time. After all, another person would make it far more intimidating on the Croagunk's part. That was not the result he wanted; Elijah always left an area making friends, not making an unhappy home or a stupidly-fooolish remainder of a failed diplomatic attmept that left sour tastes in everyone's mouths. So, he sat there with a smile on his face. A real one - he couldn't fake smile if he tried. Elijah always had his emotions written on his face. "I should explain myself first," Elijah began, wondering just what he was going to say. There was so much to be told about this sort of thing. "I'm trying to assemble a team of Fighting Pokémon. Ones much like yourself. I want to master the Fighting-type, but I don't want to do it like the other trainers. I want to befriend my allies instead of running about and capturing them against their will. I want them to develop as sapient beings before I treat them like creatures. As equals, not lessers." His thoughts were racing. He wasn't sure how much this Croagunk was taking in and understanding, nor would he really know what the reply was. His task could never be easier, but it also could never be more difficult. There was always this innate air about trying to become a true ally of Pokémon. Elijah would, despite every misgiving he could ever have, or anyone laughing at him for it, press on. "I want to start my own Fighting Dojo. And I want my friends to be there with me." .2 ![]() Unless the Blaziken suddenly learned to speak English, he probably wouldn't have been of much help. But oh well, at least there was something of a peaceful air of communication here between sentient beings. Someone should invent a translator at some point, they'd probably make millions. While Elijah commenced his babbling and explanation of his mission, the Croagunk sat and patiently listened, cheeks still puffing in and out in a regular rhythm of meditation. On the surface it didn't look like the frog was paying much attention at all, though he was quietly considering things in his little froggy mind. Eventually, after the trainer stopped talking, there was a general moment of silence in which more contemplation was...well, contemplated. The Croagunk was somewhat loathe to leave this place, as he was well known as a teacher for the younger frogs. However, if there was a chance he could also broaden his mind to new techniques, it would be well worth it. "Croa." The frog rose slowly from his spot and lightly stretched, before flexing his legs and hopping from rock to rock, back to the flatland around the toxic pond. Once on the ground, he beckoned to Elijah with a paw, before sliding into a fighting stance. What madness is this? The froggy wants to fight? .3 ![]() Well, that certainly changed things. No Pokémon had ever asked him for a match before; against his own Pokémon, maybe, but never against Elijah himself. It was certainly a change of pace, and would also prove to be an extremely difficult challenge, considering the height of the Croagunk. They were, by and large, small little creatures. He knew from experience; he had a Croagunk waiting for him back in Rose Town under the care of his friends at the Fighting Dojo, being trained by Maku and Chi, his two experienced fighters. Chi would certainly be glad for Elijah's return, considering all the new friends he was bringing home with him. But this? This was such a different method. Apparently he wanted to see what Elijah could teach him. Right then. Time to step uup to the challenge. Elijah stood on his rock, stretching himself out of the kneeling seiza position and working his muscles with some isometric exercises that could be done in a small space, such as standing on a rock surrounded by toxic liquids. Once he finished, he leapt strongly from the rock, and out to follow the Croagunk's path in order to face across from it, exactly three metres away - respectable sparring distance, as it was by the rules. Elijah bowed to his opponent, as was custom in karate, and waited in ready stance, feet apart a short distance and closed fists in front of him as if holding a wheelbarrow. Now, the trick was going to be not hurting this Croagunk; his skill was such that he was an excellent fighter, as things went, and now he had to demonstrate just how excellent by keeping under control. This was a precarious situation, for Elijah did not want this little creature to come to harm due to his carelessness. Everything was going to have to be flawless, and he needed to show his technique and skill at the highest level. That was when he dropped into short fighting stance, hands up and knees bent. He was ready, his mind sharp. Zanshin and kime - the awareness and the focus. He had them both, and now he'd need to show this little critter what he could do. "Come!" ----- Elijah ![]() Lv. .3 ![]() The Croagunk seemed to be sizing up Elijah as they prepared for battle, noting his stance and way of carrying himself. This was not something he recognized from his training out here in the plains, so perhaps there really was something new to learn if he left here. Ah, but he would not be swayed so easily yet, first he had to make sure this trainer actually had some proof to his claims and was no wet noodle. "Croagunk!" And thus, the fight was on! The frog wasted no time, scooping up a pawful of nasty, toxic flesheating gunk and flinging it right at Elijah, where it was sure to burn skin and eat through clothing if it made contact. Following that, the Croagunk melted into the air and seemed to vanish. Only to appear behind the squishthing and perform his best Kakashi imitation. Ouch, that's gotta hurt. .3 for lulzOh, holy cow this was going to be tricky. He was now in the centre of a Pokémon battle, and damn if he wasn't going to do his best to try and get his way through it. Never in his life did he truly believe he'd be in this situation; no matter that he'd had to fight some of his other Pokémon to convince them to join, and not to mention he'd been assaulted by Scythers... this was a real fight. Him against Pokémon that were using their actual techniques they used on other critters, not just their body. Well, it was on. When Elijah noticed the hand moving down to scoop up sludge, he immediately started evading sideways, trying to get out of the throwing arc and present a harder target to hit for the sludge. He knew exactly what would happen if he got hit with that, and he wasn't about to risk death from this. Yes. This was now a life or death battle and needed to be treated seriously. What he wasn't expecting was for the thing to vanish, and reappear behind him. He gave his best effort to spin around as quickly as possible to prevent it getting a back attack, but he wasn't quite quick enough as it struck him in the left side of his hips ad cause it to buckle some. His balance was temporarily gone, but damn if he couldn't regain it quickly. That meant that he was now going to have to start mirroring his own Pokémon and their techniques, to fight on his level. Could he do that? Sure thing. Elijah's right foot lashed out in a low sweeping kick, aiming to take the Croagunk's legs out from under it in a rapid sweeping technique. A quick punch followed, turning his hips in and engaging muscles from his foot all the way up into his hips and then into his right hand, he hoped to deliver one stunning punch to the Croagunk's face, and retract it, enough to confuse the everloving crap out of the little critter now attacking him. Damn, this was gonna be messy. Meanwhile, Over There, Luna was looking at her tree, when suddenly... it had berries on them! Multiple berries! They were Starfs, kay. And thanks to the Universe telling Elijah how to do all this (or, really, vice-versa since Elijah was the first man ever to know how to do all this somehow) Luna could proudly look at her tree and think to herself how good she was for growing some richly-composted starf berries. .3 ![]() Round One passes without incident, now for Round Two. Oooo this is gonna get tricky. Swoop! The frog gave a surprised croak as Elijah went to knock his legs out from under him. Reaching one arm back as he fell, the Croagunk scooped up a pawful of mud and hurled it right into the trainer's face before rolling over to the side to avoid the heavy punch. Dynamicpunch was known for having notoriously bad accuracy, and with a faceful of toxic mud coming right at him Elijah would doubtless have other things on his mind than striking the frog. Like, say, preserving his eyeballs. Those were rather important. Rolling up out of the mud, the Croagunk shook himself quickly to rid himself of detrius, took aim and hauled back to smack Elijah in the left hip again for even greater damage. .3 ![]() The first technique was a success. Now if he could just chain the second one in and get this fight going strongly, everything would go- Wait, no. He was reaching for more mud again, and if he got hit by this stuff he was in some serious trouble. Escape and evasion was far more important at this point, but through Elijah's body was coursing the adrenaline needed to fight on this level. One thing was burning through his mind: he was currently fighting on the same level as a Pokémon. That fact was the predominant thought running through his head, one that was going to give him the drive and will to continue on. He'd have to sacrifice the punch he'd intended to follow up with. That was fine, since it gave him the room he needed to manoeuvre and placed him right up in this Croagunk's face, inside his ranges. Not to mention it gave him the ability to stay right there and control the battle from right up close. That was where this fight was now going to shine; who had the most control over the situation would come out victorious. So. The Croagunk reached down, and Elijah was already stepping to the side, just to keep away once more. This time, the stepping was not so dramatic. It was only a few steps, but that was the key to this whole thing, the conservation of movement. What he wasn't expecting was another shattering punch - but that was where his plan could start. So he took that hit reasonably well, letting his hip cave, all that good stuff. But he also latched on to the Croagunk's arm with his left hand, trying to grab and lock the little thing into a firm grip, to control its complete body - and then, much as one would do as a counter, return the blow twofold, the man bringing his right elbow around to decimate the Croagunk's face. But that control wouldn't be sacrificed. Elijah was going to hold on for as long as he could, and use his right hand plus his left elbow and his knees to keep in close and attack at zero range, fighting where his size was going to give him the greatest advantage of all. Streams of punches, thrown knees and elbows, all at the insane pace of five attacks a second of a black belt - and all up where the Croagunk had a lesser chance of evasion. And Elijah's Pokémon watched merrily, and things were good. He was, after all, an excellent fighter, and rarely got to demonstrate his skills. Counterattacking was where he shone - and he'd taught them all how to do it, too. ----- +1 to tree. Elijah ![]() Lv. Awesome, x/x ![]() - Counter -> Close Combat ![]() Lv. 49 |

.3 ![]() Holy crap I don't even know what to say to that. And neither does the Croagunk, who suddenly found himself tossed and pummeled by techniques he'd never even seen before and without so much as a howdy - do. His mind registered a certain level of awe in between the pulses of OW PAIN, and whenever Elijah let up the frog would simply flop on the ground, panting and wondering there all those little stars came from. Eventually he got his breath and his senses back and sat up, puffing out his cheeks in an exhausted croak. His students had never managed to tire him out this much. Speaking of the two little frogs, they looked up from their match with a bit of surprise and alarm, turning to hop on over and assist their master when he waved a paw in their direction, indicating they should stay. Their curious and worried cheeps sounded from the other side of the pond as the Croagunk slowly rose to his feet a few times and shook his head to make sure everything was still working up there after getting an elbow to the schozz. "Croagunk," he cracked out, managing a wobbly bow to Elijah. This boy was skilled indeed, and apparently had the potential to be teaching him some new things. It would take a moment to sort things out with the little frogs, but then he would be free to continue his broadening of knowledge in the world of the fighting arts. tl;dr - have a frog. -- ![]() Lv. 49 [Neutral happybits, gtfo] |

.3 ![]() Well, on the plus side, he'd managed to defeat a Pokémon in battle, thanks to his karate techniques. He'd fought it just like he would have fought any human, really, excluding the bits where it threw the toxic mud; that could've been treated like rapid movement around an enemy that was throwing heavy punches, or something. Either way, it was one of the most exhilarating things that he could have done. He was sweating, he was tired, and he was hopped up on adrenaline, but Elijah was loving each and every moment of it. He looked up to see what the Croagunk had done after the fight, and he was bowing. Well. That was that, then; Elijah grinned happily, then brought his feet together at 45-degree angles at the heels and bowed himself. Respect to your opponents, let alone your friends, was an important part of the martial arts he taught. How things were so different since the five years he'd been alone... five years to change his art, and five years to train his mind and body. Now, he had a dream, and he was reaching out with both hands and seizing it. It was all worth it. He'd give the new addition to his team the time to work out what it was that he wanted to do and time to sort out the affairs with his trainees. That was fair, and Elijah was one for fairness. However, there was something he could do. "Luna, can you please pass me a Luxury Ball from my bag?" he called over his shoulder, turning to face the Poliwhirl who was in the middle of watering her berry tree, which was an important task. Once she was finished, she plucked the grey and orange ball from the travel bag and threw it at Elijah, who deftly caught it in two hands, before placing it on the ground in front of him. "Whenever you're ready to go, press the button on the front and we can be on our way." Elijah smiled - this day was looking up, tired as he was, as the Croagunk made its way back over and pressing the button on the Luxury Ball and watching it get zapped into the little containment device that would carry it. Now he had to get back to Bloodaisy as soon as possible. That being said, he took his bag up, all his Pokéballs and Luna carried his tree, while Epona and Furioso followed along. They, together, were moving relatively quickly to get to Bloodaisy, one area at a time. ----- +1 to tree, watering it Current Landmark: Poisoned Grass Heading to: Dry Grass 2 |

(0.3 )As you walked onwards, a nondescript black Cadillac wheeled up beside you. The anonymous driver pressed a button on the dashboard, causing a platform to shoot out from the vehicle's side and form a new floor under your party. Your "assailant" then hit the gas, and forcibly transported all of you over the poison plains, until the ground changed colour, to a healthy green. Now at its destination, the platform was whipped out from under you, dumping you onto the dry grass. The Cadillac let out a honk of its horn, then sped away. This has been a drive-by modding. Have a nice day. Reached: Dry Grass 2 |
