"Oh, ew, ew. Wet." Messoria scuttled backwards after her feet splashed into a little puddle on the ground, hopping back and forth from one to the other before clambering up her trainer's leg and jacket until the Charmander was safely perched up on Arell's shoulder, away from the offending damp. "Do not like wet." Arell, in the meantime, was now aware of small but very cold and muddy feet on her shoulder. "...thanks." In one hand she held her Poketech and a handheld compass--even though the electronic device had a compass on its map screen, Arell liked having an accurate backup to double check. Given that the fog she was in cut visibility to "I Can't See Shit" range, both were necessary. And something about a compass she could hold in her hand just seemed more comforting. That hiking pole finally had a purpose again; while useless for putting weight on, it did make a half-decent early detection system in case Arell was on a collision course with some horrifically sodden earth that she would sink up to her knees in. While she had been using it, the trainer had managed to stay on relatively solid ground--though she was glad she was wearing tall hiking boots, because she had stepped in ankle-deep mud and didn't want any of that on the inside of her boots. "It's wet up here toooo," the Charmander wailed--and then sneezed, sending a little puff of flame into the air in front of her. The mist smothered it, and the little lizard grumbled unhappily on Arell's shoulder. "Yeah, it's going to be wet. Think of it as...building character." Messoria only grumbled at her. -- Current Landmark: Mist Valley Heading For: Sinklands Next Landmarks: Sinklands, Soggy Hillside, Healthy Field |

.2 So. Mist, mud, slime, algae...disturbing ability for trees to all look exactly alike...yep. Perfect territory for getting lost and wandering in circles for weeks on end before starving to death, this. Good thing you have not only one compass, but two. A lot of trainers don't seem to even think of bringing one, so, this is double the benefit. 'Course...one wonders which one should be trusted if they start to disagree... But, they aren't, at least right now. Both are saying North is THAT way...and that's a good thing. And it's misty, wet, mucky, and...well, turning swampy. Reached: Sinklands Now, though...now it gets difficult. Because a straight line is no longer an option. At least...not if one values living and not getting eaten by a sinkhole. Detour after detour really makes actually making progress difficult, that's for sure. "Ras!!!" A sharp angry squeal also interrupts the forward progress. And a little buglike creature scuttles out of the mist, little pincer finger things waving angrily at the pair of you. "Paras rasas!" More angruy gesculating and squealing. Yeah...he's rather pissed off for some unknown reason. A bit more squiealing and some jabs at a foot eventually display why, in the form of some rather flattened mushrooms. Aw...you squished his garden. Ooops. ~~~~~~~~ ![]() Level 15 ~ Ticked off about his mushrooms getting trod upon by accident Edited by DarthEevee, Apr 25 2009, 03:05 PM.

.2 ![]() Wet wet wet. Mud mud mu-- "What's that noise?" So focused was Arell on not getting lost or falling into a hole that she didn't notice the raspy, rattling squealing noise until her Charmander's chirp brought her attention to it. The little lizard was leaning out as far from her shoulder as she could manage without falling off, tail waving back and forth slowly. "Bwu--oh." Arell lifted her foot up and away from the angry little...parasite...headcrab thing. Paras, she remembered. Shroomcrab. Same difference. The trainer gently pushed the toe of her boot against the headcrab's head to scoot it away so it didn't jab her in the ankle, and noticed some rather squished fungi where her foot had been. She drew the connection between the mushrooms on the crab's back and the ones she had squished. "...oh, well. Oops?" "They'll grow back, won't they? The thing that pops out of the ground is just the berry." Messoria clearly had a better understanding of what a shroom was than Arell did. Arell didn't particularly like mushrooms. -- Current Landmark: Sinklands Heading For: Soggy Hillside Next Landmarks: Soggy Hillside, Healthy Field, Mayriver! |

.2 ![]() The little shroom lover was intent on jabbing your ankle/legs/face for a while and dumping poisonous spores into them since you squished its shrooms but upon seeing the fire lizard... decided that it wasn't such a big deal. It liked being alive and not on fire more then it liked mushrooms. And like the lizard said, they would grow back. Irritated but not enough to continue the confrontation, the bug hissed and waved its claws at them to go away. Stupid human and their stupid fire Pokemon, messing up everything. You're free to go if you want. |

.1 ![]() Happy to avoid getting her feet stabbed, Arell sidestepped away from the little headcrab--making sure she didn't step on any more mushrooms in the process--skirted a mud puddle, and went on her way. She did look behind her to make sure the little crabthing wasn't following her or releasing clouds of noxious powder in her general direction. The wind was blowing towards her, and the trainer didn't fancy being poisoned/stunned/comatose. "Bye bye, mushroom crab!" Messoria chirped behind them, turning around on Arell's shoulder until she couldn't see the Paras anymore. Then the lizard turned back around and stretched out, almost like a cat. "...how much rain does this place get, anyway?" The ground was making that particular oversaturated squelching noise with each footstep, caking the bottoms of Arell's boots with mud. Every so often she had to pause and shake a clod off of it before it grew so big she would be walking on mud stilts. Which, while it sounded awesome, really wasn't. Particularly the sprained ankles that usually followed. -- Current Landmark: Sinklands Heading For: Soggy Hillside Next Landmarks: Soggy Hillside, Healthy Field, Mayriver! |

.3 "Not much actually." All Arell hears is some 'Bell's and 'Sprout's, but Messoria gets teh full message. There's a flytrap plant nestled comfortably in a particularly slimy looking portion of the marsh, twitching his leaves every so often, idly. "See, the thing is that this place is a valley, and it's where the clouds rest. So, there's always all this mist. And well, that keeps everything damp all the time." The plant stretches. "Can't say that I mind, reallly." In all honesty, that's probably just quaint local folklore, but one never knows. A pocket valley between mountains and next to a cool-watered loch was bound to be misty a lot in general even in real life, though. Who knows. But well, it at least hadn't stopped forward progress... "I'd get her to stop before she steps in the sink hole, though," the sprout spoke up again, helpfully. About three steps before Arell is going to step into said pit of mud and gunk. ~~~~~~~~ Lv. 13~ Enjoying the mud and mist and wet, and being (sort of) helpful Mini-Obstacle: Sinkhole! |

.3 ![]() ((Edited because I was a dumbass and didn't finish my post.)) Messoria perked up when she heard a voice talking to her, looking around before spotting a plant with a yellow flower for a head. It had eyes, and was talking to them. Arell turned her head to see the flower...Bellsprout, pausing for a moment. It seemed like it was happily growing here, so it probably wasn't so wet it would drown and rot its feet...but...then again, they could move around somewhere drier if they wanted to. So that was probably a non issue. Arell didn't stop moving, though she watched the little plant for awhile longer, oblivious to what it was saying. The Charmander chittered with alarm at the Bellsprout's warning, and noticed a rather ominous looking puddle in front of them, though partially disguised with grass. And Arell was about to put her foot in it. So, instead of trying to get her attention with words, the Charmander reached her head over and bit Arell's ear, yanking on it a bit like it was a steering device. "OW!" Arell is clearly unamused. She did hop and hobble backwards a few feet though, to try and alleviate the sudden pain in her ear. Messoria let go after her trainer had backed up, and cheeped apologetically. "The hell was that for?" "There's a hole there." Helpfully, the Charmander turned towards the sinkhole and spat an ember into it, where it hissed and bounced and then made ripples in the mud and sand before going out. "...thanks. I think." Arell reached up to make sure her ear wasn't bleeding first, before prodding at what she thought were the edges of the sinkhole with the hiking pole. No, those weren't the edges. She backed up a step until the pole scraped against the gritty, solid earth beneath all that sticky muck. After glancing at the living flower to make sure it wasn't up to something devious...she hoped, Arell cautiously started walking around the sinkhole, using her hiking pole as a guide and early warning if she was going to fall into a deeper patch of mud. Looking back, the trainer could still see her footprints in the mud behind her where she had dug her heels in after Messoria bit her. She used those as a way to orient herself in the right direction when she had to scuttle out of the way of any nasty low-density puddles. -- Obstacle: Sinkhole! .2 ![]() ...ah. Right. So luckily the Charmander managed to alert her trainer that HEY THERE WAS DANGER THERE, and the skittered around the sinkhole easily enough. The flower continued enjoying its day as you continued on~ Uh... yeah, you're in Soggy Hillside now. Enough of those damn sinkholes, for now. |

.2 yay D:Oh, how wonderful. Now, not only had the intensity of the squish-squish-squish noise increased, someone had to go and throw inclines in. Jerks. It seemed like for every step Arell took, her foot slid backwards through the mud halfway. And again. And again. Her backpack seemed to magically become a Bag of Holding that someone had dumped a bunch of bricks in, and wasn't helping matters in the least. Messoria lurched back and forth on her trainer's shoulder despite her best attempts at keeping her back straight, chittering in concern. But Arell was a bit too aggravated to respond right now; having tucked the compass and Poketech in her pockets where they rattled around against the various contents inside. For the moment, she just focused on getting up over this fucking hill, and then getting her bearings. Arell was actually starting to get a little tired now; she wasn't used to walking in mud that tried to encourage her to move backwards. -- Current Landmark: Soggy Hillside Heading For: Healthy Field Next Landmarks: Healthy Field, Mayriver'n shit. .2 ![]() So not only was the terrain conspiring against her... but so were the Pokemon. Because Pokemon hate you! Arell's trek up the soggy hill was interrupted by... a bug! Shooting white sticky stuff at her feet! The trainer was tripped up by a String Shot from further up the hill and faceplanted into the mud. Up at the top, there was a Wurmple laughing its ass off. .3 Count to ten...slowly...one... Given the way her right hand was twitching in the mud, anger management didn't seem to be working here. Arell picked her face up out of the mud, using the relatively clean back of her sleeve to get the stuff out of her eyes and nostrils so she could see and breathe normally. With an abrupt, sudden movement, she turned over onto her side and fetched her multitool out of its little container on her belt, prying out one of the bigger knives to cut the strings off with. And to be honest she wouldn't mind handing it to that thing on top of the hill point first, either. Messoria had landed on her back in the mud, but rolled over onto her face and briefly guttered the flame on the end of her tail. The Charmander squawked, flailing her feet around to get her tail flame out of the nasty wet dampness, and rolled to her feet so coated in mud she looked black. Messoria made a growling noise after she ascertained that her tail was alright, and waited for an instruction from Arell...but she seemed too preoccupied to do so. It was clearly time for So, while her trainer was busy cutting the strings off of her feet in a manner that seemed slightly too aggravated to be entirely safe, the fire lizard scuttled up the side of the hill on all fours towards the Wurmple responsible. The creature's lighter weight and lack of a heavy-ass backpack enabled her to travel more quickly up the slope. Upon getting in range, Messoria spat a torrent of fire at the offending bug while continuing to chase after it. -- :scharmander Level 9, 18/18 -ACTION MAN! .2 Messoria continued scuttling over the top of the hill until she was within poking distance of the now crispy bug. Poke, poke. "...does not look edible." She turned around and kicked some mud onto the burnt, unmoving form before shaking herself like a dog, flinging little patters and plips of mud off everywhere. The Charmander still had a rather dull, dark appearance, however. Like mustard. Arell successfully freed herself without stabbing herself in the ankle, and picked herself up out of the mud accompanied by rude squelching noises. The trainer put the multitool away, and silently made her way up the hill after her Charmander. Messoria got the idea that cleaning her face off on the trainer's leg would be a bad idea right now--and, besides. It was all muddy and sticky. Arell paused at the top of the hill, and pulled a small towel out of her backpack to more or less clean her face off, stashing the muddy rag in a plastic bag before putting it away to be cleaned later. No good in making everything dirty. She paused for a few minutes to see if she could find a better way down onto more even ground. Preferably without getting muddy again. -- Current Landmark: THE TOP OF Soggy Hillside Heading For: Healthy Field Next Landmarks: Healthy Field, Mayriver' |
