After their restful stop at Moorfeldt City, Elijah and co decided to continue on into the Dustlands over yonder. To do that, however, they would need to cross the remainder of the Moorfeldt Grasslands, which consisted of one section of trampled grass before shrubbery popped up in the distance and marked the beginning of the large dustbowl.

Very well, Elijah thought, there was much to do.

Turning to his compatriots, he did a head-count. Furioso the Combusk- no, Blaziken, now. Then there was Luna the Poliwhirl, and finally the Mankey that had been coming along for the ride. Hopefully, Elijah had treated this Mankey well enough for it to be giving his group more of a consideration now, but the karateka was not about to pressure the little thing.

With a reaffirming nod, Elijah began to set out for the Dustlands, making sure all three of his friends were close by, no matter where they were; surely the Mankey was choosing to ride on Elijah's shoulder by now, and that was its choice to be making. He was more than content to let the Mankey ride there.

So too did Luna ask for the tree, being interested in the thing; she liked this growing business considerably and was not even a Grass-type to have that affinity! It was definitely her caring nature shining through there, and that was something Elijah did not wish to suppress, and as such, he gladly handed her the young pot full of growth mulch and compost, plus a slowly-growing new tree.

The group walked on duly into the grasslands. Elijah had his Pokétech in hand, Itemfinder once more active to locate any wild Pokémon or lost items, and since the sun was still fresh in the air, had the time to search for them. Bloodaisy was rather close, and so they had considerable time to approach it. Besides, with the group all fed, rested and watered, they'd be able to handle nigh-on anything that came their way, or so Elijah was confident in thinking.

Here was, indeed, hoping.

----

+1 to tree.

Trampled Grass 3 -> Thin Shrubs (Dustlands)

Yawn. That was just what the Mankey did from where she was sitting on Elijah's shoulder. From the ground where they all were, it didn't look like there was anything that was going to bother the-

A huge bird shape soared over them, sending the Mankey into a panic. She would have darted into the tree for safety only... there was no tree. So instead she hopped down to the ground to hide by Elijah's legs as another winged shape soared over.

A Pidgeot and a Fearow. They were eying the Mankey as if she was a tasty treat. Perhaps she was... perhaps all of them were. Or maybe the two just wanted to fight and Elijah and his team looked like easy pickings. Who knows. All that you did know, somehow, was that these birds weren't going to allow you to pass.

Shame your chicken can't fly, huh?

Many things, it seemed, wanted to stop Elijah on his journey. This was getting rather tiring for the trainer... so he'd have to deal with it appropriately, now.

"Luna, put the tree down... as much as I hate to do this, we need to stop them," Elijah commented, sighing and folding the Pokétech away. He'd likely need himself free and focused to deal with the situation at hand, and it was about time to water the tree. As Luna put it down, Elijah briskly watered it with the refilled watering can, putting that away and staying at the tree's side. The Mankey was more than welcome to stay with the tree and help Elijah guard it.

The karateka knew he wasn't going to have to continually issue individual orders to his Pokémon. He didn't need to fight by having people telling him how to block and how to punch in kumite; he trained his friends to be no different to that methodology. They had full autonomy in battle and it was possibly because of that they had such good results.

"Furi, if you want to test out that body of yours, feel free," Elijah said, a grin on his face - and the Blaziken offered him a clawed thumbs-up in response. Sure, he couldn't fly, but by Lugia he could jump like a champion. Hell, even as a Combusken he could - and with the insanely-powerful legs bestowed to him by this new and evolved form, it was going to be an aerial battle in the making. Luna, too, had a new trick or two she would've gladly tried.

However, their teamwork was going to be their key, here.

"Furioso, I can try to bring one to the ground for you if you want," the Poliwhirl offered to the Blaziken, knowing that one of her main tricks would be extremely useful here.

"Go for it!" was his only reply, the newly-evolved warrior deciding that he wanted to very much give his new body the best workout he possibly could. And what better way was there than to flex every muscle in the body at once? Indeed, bulking the system up was a good way to start, preparing both arm and leg muscles together in a movement that was bound to be useful - and then coupled with a technique that was designed to hit flying opponents.

Furioso's right claws began glowing that blue again, and without hesitation the hip muscles of the walking avian flexed. In a single fluid motion, he pushed upwards with prodigious speed and might, launching the Blaziken upwards and directly at the first target - the Pidgeot, who would be on the receiving end of a hyper-tensed move that threatened to pick it out of the air with one shattering punch in the form of the move known as a Sky Uppercut.

Luna, on the other hand, was going to attack in her own way, and in a much simpler fashion; much as she'd tried with the bees, she had Hypnosis in mind. And so, in a much more direct fashion this time than the bubblebeam-coated attempt, Luna launched forth the hypnotic rings that could lull a target to sleep at the bird up high.

And if that failed, there was a Hydro Pump waiting in the wings to knock it right out of the sky. Oh, the joys of powerful attacks.

Of course, the Universe wanted to make this task worthwhile, yes? Can't expect an Epic Quest such as this to be easy!

These birds were certainly going to make it hard, that was for sure.

Mankey, well... she wanted to protect the growing tree, but she also didn't want to get eaten by big birds. So she sort of put herself between Elijah and the pot, using that as some kind of cover.

But the two big birds weren't paying attention to them anymore. No, they had other things to worry about. First was the Pidgeot, watching Furi carefully as he bulked up and got stronger. She stopped in midair for a second, and flexed all of her muscles, being a mirror of the chicken for a second. Oh dear... And when Furi jumped, she raised her wings and gave a huge, mighty flap, smacking him right back down. Designed to hit flying Pokemon as it was, the attack was sort of intercepted by the bird's wings, only socking the big pigeon enough to send her tumbling backwards, flapping hard to recover. Round one looked about even for those two... though Furi hit the ground hard from being wingsmacked.

The other bird looked like he had about the same mind as its companion. He mirrored the Poli-thing's attack back at her, and both bird and frog fell to the ground, asleep. Well golly gee, that wasn't good. The bird started to float to the ground, but Pidgeot swooped in and latched onto him, dragging him up into the sky and squawking to wake him up. Lazy man. :K

So both of them had effectively failed. An unfortunate thing, Elijah knew. But for Furioso, the battle had just started.

As the massive fighter fell down to the ground, he was still staring at the Pidgeot. He knew that, while it moved to collect that Fearow, it was vulnerable - it was now more than twice as heavy and thusly would be extremely slow through the air with so much extra weight. So too was there going to be either an easy picking with the Fearow still in the bird's grasp or just being able to hit that Pidgeot easily where it was.

Or, hey. Why not both of them?

On Furi's way down from that vicious buffet, he let his muscles tense up again. Indeed, that was going to be the key to this whole thing, use of muscular contractions of resistances... and then to expel every ounce of power he had in a single kick. Once his feet touched the ground again, Furioso let his knees bent... and with all the built-up tension, pushed off again, but this time going up harder than he did last time. Flames began to crackle around his foot again, using the heightened speed to prepare himself a kick.

That kick was designed to bring one or both birds down to the ground. Blaze Kick - a new and effective technique, yes. And now, using it with all the strength he had while both birds were too busy to do anything about it, he'd defeat them. That was his way. He did not give up, hell no. Furioso just tried harder, instead.

Elijah, meanwhile, watched on with interest, then pulled out the watering can and blue flute both. It was, indeed, time to water the Starf, kay. And so it was watered and happy things. Also, after the kick, Blue Flute is used! Luna woke up!

...LUNA uses HYDRO PUMP!

From all the squawking, and the flailing that the Pidgeot was doing to her cargo, the Fearow woke up to being shaken around and an angry chicken below. Oh, the frog was still out. Good.

They could coordinate on one target now without being interrupted.

Pidgeot let go of Fearow and the two split off from each other, the fearsome bird was wobbling a little and still rather sleepy. Furi, still on the ground, saw this and went for the sleepy bird with his blazing kick. It smashed right into the flying bird, singing feathers and nearly taking him out of the sky.

Unfortunately, the smarter Pidgeot was expecting this. And watching what was going on down below. Like a bullet, she swooped down and latched her claws into the fighter, stopping him from falling back to earth. While her comrade was squawking and becoming airborne again, recovering from the attack.

The torrent of water came from below, and the fighting chicken was thrown right into it, getting shot back up into the sky as the Pidgeot wheeled off and shed some feathers, letting Furi fall through the heavy down as he fell back down to earth. He wasn't going to be hitting as hard with all that fluff on him, that was for sure.

And to help Furi back to the ground... and get some payback, the male bird corkscrewed in the air, his beak drilling into Furi's side before he sloppily flapped off again, the two went back to circling and planning.

Furi's ideal would never come to pass.

He'd hoped to knock both of them out with a wide, sweeping kick that took them both completely off-guard and out of the picture, as Elijah's kicks seemed to; the Blaziken only managed to hit that one target, and even then it wasn't taken down. He was evidently going to step up his fighting prowess, and that meant more training. Training Furioso was only too happy to be doing.

At the point where the claws latched on, the bird did not cry out in pain; he did become doused in feathers, falling into Luna's water stream in the meantime. He could hear the apologetic shouts of the Poliwhirl, but he blocked them out. No, there was no need to worry, she hadn't meant to hit him. They were good friends - she wouldn't have done that to him.

Fortunately, he did see the Fearow come towards him, and he realised then and there he had something he could do about this. He watched. He waited, He summoned all of his mental focus for this one task, envisioning exactly how his claws would reach out and where he'd take it from there. That was going to be the key to this whole thing, to be able to take out the first opponent and then move on to the second.

When the Fearow came in with its drill peck, the fire god was ready for him.

Reaching out with one hand as the tip of the beak came into his side, he ignored the pain, he ignored everything he could except that one thing - and reached out both hands for the head of the bird. Or, accurately, one for the head and one for the neck, and let himself turn so that he was now able to hold on to the Fearow and stand atop it... and drive it down, with one piledrivingly powerful knee, ride it into the ground and let it take the fall for him.

Luna took that opportunity to act; dribbling a little bit of water into her hands, she scooped up some mud and hurled it airborne, making two or three piles of this to use. They were all aimed for the Pidgeot, to cover it with mud for two reasons - to slow it down and cover its vision, making it a lot less effective as a fighter. It also was a good time to create a bubble cloud between Furioso and the Pidgeot, aiming both for the bird and around it with the exact same intention.

And no matter what happened to the Fearow, Furioso had a job to finish. Indeed, when he reached the ground, the first thing he did was explode his body outwards with the burning fires he had stored within - enough to evaporate the water. So too would it melt the feathers, and that would be enough to bring his body back to the hardened state it had been in before.

So saying, Furioso leapt airborne once again, but this time channelled the insane power of the raging flame into his legs, for a round double kick - the bubble screen would be evaporated and the Pidgeot, hopefully slowed by Luna's attempts, would be walking right into the double Blaze Kick that Furioso had in store for it, giving the kick the utmost of his power. If it connected... there would be hell to pay for that Pidgeot.

And Elijah watched on and watered his tree, yeah. He's not an active participant in the fight and it's not his place to tell them what to do.

Furi: Focus Energy for epic Counter piledrive; Flare Blitz to counteract the Featherdance and give me back my +2 ATK ;_;, leading into high-power Flare Blitz KAEN GERI
Luna: Mud Bomb -> Bubble to provide protective screen and slow down the Pidgeot for when Furi goes in.

With the Pidgeot still right overhead and everything, it saw Furi prepare to counter, and dove after them, relaxing her body to gain speed. Somehow. It intercepted Furi before he could Counter with a slash of wind. The beak and the wind slashing at his body broke his concentration enough where he couldn't complete the maneuver, and fell to the ground without doing any damage.

They flapped high above, well higher then the pure water type could throw. The bubbles were popped with a flurry of wing slashes, letting the two of them see what was going on below.

And they both struck, together.

Mirroring Luna, and working together almost as one Pokemon, bombs of mud were launched for the fire type. He didn't even get close, the barrage sent him back to the ground, covered in mud this time, before he could even reach them.

The teamwork of the two flying types was astounding, for sure. No doubt a single Pokemon couldn't take them on... and Furi looked like he was suffering from trying to be the hero. The pair of birds were so coordinated... could they be beaten?

And so in response to the stupidly-overpowered birds, Elijah decided to employ some interesting tactics that would take advantage of the fact that out of all the combatants in the arena, only one of them wasn't going to be stupdly tired at this point because it hadn't come under attack and wasn't doing a zillion things in the timeframe where it could do one: Luna.

And so, Elijah turned to his minion that wasn't treated as a minion but as a friend, and looked to the sky.

"You think you can drop them?"

"Poli."

"Go for it, then. Furi, you're insurance."

"Poli!"

"Blaze!"

And so, with a huge burst of concentrated psychic energy, Luna unleashed one big psychic wave intended to drop both Flying-types currently airborne. Would it work? Almost guaranteed. Especially on the Fearow, who had been kick and put to sleep already, and so who had very little mental resistance at that point. And that Pidgeot would be getting tired from doing like everything ever at once.

And just in case, Furioso had also jumped up into the air once more with his powerful bulk. There were three conditions he had should he move to attack; one was that if they tried to avoid the psychic burst. Two was if they attempted to mirror the move, and three was if it plain just failed. If any of those came true, they were going to have a very tall and very angry Pokémon literally dropping on them having twisted himself down to do so, and since they were either exhausted from using a move or too busy avoiding that to be able to do two things at once, it was a very solid plan.

Not like the others hadn't been, though.

Elijah watched the two birds fall, and that was a sign as good as any that the battle was finally won. He didn't exactly relish the idea of continuing the fight for much longer, because... well, his allies were fast becoming battle-weary. Sure, they were learning many things from it all, but there was still a limit to what he could push them, and Elijah didn't exactly want to overstep that kind of boundary so quickly on the trip.

Nodding, Elijah called his two friends back, and once more watered the extremely thisty Starf, kay. With the Wailmer Pail he had. Because screw calling it a pot.

And so, the trio knew that continuing their journey was the best thing to do, and hey, their berry tree was almost mature by this point. Give it a bit more time and it'd be nice and ready for sprouting some berries... but they'd have to be careful with it in the Dustlands. Elijah actually started to debate whether to keep it out or not, but he had some ideas for protecting it. Maybe he could buy something around the place that'd let him keep it covered.

This all meant one thing - they'd continue on to Bloodaisy. It wasn't so far; a bit more through the Grasslands and into the first expanses of the Dustlands, then into the city to stock up and prepare for the inevitability of what lay ahead. That was going to be extremely difficult to deal with, but... his dreams were resting on this.

So the group, battle-weary but proud of their accomplishment, continued on through the grasslands, and hopefully into the thin shrubs that made the clear demarcation of grassland to dustbowl. The pace was slow, but that was necessary; Luna and Furi needed some time to recover.
