Alex's two matches so far could not have been more different. First round, he'd been stuffed. Completely, and utterly. His conqueror, Sikander, was still in (unsurprisingly), and was currently in the other semifinal match. A possible grudge match, if both of them were to win. Some of the gathered media had already jumped on that particular subplot, and he would doubtless hear much more if it unfolded further. In complete contrast, round two had been a whitewash. Tox had annihalated two of Kaizanu's pokémon, and she'd been forced to concede shortly afterwards. Still, he'd seen enough of their capabilities to unnderstand why Steely had had so much trouble against them.If Tox hadn't been able to recover and leech so much health, perhaps he would have, too. Speaking of Steely, she was to be his opponent for this semi. Finally, someone he knew... sort of. At least they'd met before their actual match, which was more than he'd done with the other two opponents. She'd had to beat Jolt to get here, so Alex was in no position to get complacent. He called out to the other trainer as they took their positions in the arena. "Hey Steely. Good luck to you - I've been looking forward to this one." Tox had served him so well in the last round, that he was more than happy to sent the bat out for another bout; thanks to the handy healing centres on hand, battle fatigue was not an issue. All things considered, Tox was probably the best choice of lead pokémon that could be made. One particular section of the crowd thought so, too, and roared their approval upon seeing the purple flyer take his place. The seeding thing was still annoying, though. Alex was now the highest seed left, so he'd never get to do any initial type matching. Ah well. ~~~~~ "Tox" x14Ability: Inner Focus VT: 10/10 |

One more. One more. Steely found it hard to believe that she'd made it this far, really. She shouldn't have been, really, with the rules being changed around, in the middle of the rounds no less. It looked like the both of them were lucky. The Steel Cerberus nearly tripped over her own feet as she scrambled up the stairs to her platform, late as usual. Well, she hadn't been late the first round, though she'd still gotten there second and sent out her Pokemon second. She made a mistake that she hoped to never make again... putting a good, fun battle before winning. Apparently she was the only person who thought like that. At least that had been round one. Round two... she wasn't sure what had happened. She'd won against Jolt, but couldn't quite remember details. He'd given up? She must not be remembering it right, or something. Jolt wouldn't give up. She shook that from her mind, for the moment. She'd have a real fight with him. Someday. "Heya Alex," she said brightly once she caught her breath, stepping up to the railing on her platform, waving once she got there. Alex was a nice fella... she'd actually met a lot of nice people in this tournament... though she thought back to Kaizanu... someone who she had thought was a friend. (C'mon self, can't be an emotional yo-yo right now,) "Good luck to you man," she got ready, already having made her choice before the battle... she nearly faceplanted when Alex sent out his Crobat, though. "Man, what is it with everyone having a flying Pokemon? And Crobats. Everywhere," she shook like a dog real quick, and flung her arm out before her, the ball in her hand flying to strike the arena floor and crack open. It split in half, spilling its red light to the floor, which quickly formed into a four-legged shape of shaggy black and gray fur, and fierce red eyes. "Yer on, miracle dog," Steely grinned at Maelstrom's backside, and once her Pokemon realized what was going on, he grinned over his shoulder at her, wagging his tail. "I'll get 'em," he winked, then turned his attention forward again, trotting further into the arena. His trot turned into a jog, and then the wolf was off and running. "Ground 'em! Chomp down with your teeth and give him a good zap!" she called out to her Pokemon. Maelstrom already had a good idea that was what she was going to tell him to do, so he was already on it. His pride and joy, his powerful jaws, opened in preparation. But instead of dripping saliva, they crackled with electricity. The bat was faster then him, sure, but Maelstrom would jump and catch him at some point... and take a nice hard bite down with his teeth. Hopefully hit a nerve with the electricity and make it hard for the bat to move. -- - "Maelstrom"Ability: Intimidate Vitality: 10/10 *Crunch + Thunder Fang* vs - "Tox"Ability: Inner Focus Vitality: 10/10 [Attack -1] *-* |

That was what Alex didn't like about going first. He had to choose his starting pokémon without any information given to him, so Steely could quite easily counter with... ...her Mightyena. Huh. Not quite what he'd been expecting, but now that the pooch was out there, he could see the logic behind it. Tox, for one, shied away in reflex when he saw its teeth bared. He wouldn't be doing much physical attacking against anything with a maw like that. Ah well. This was what had been put in front of Alex, and it was up to him to find a way to beat it. Mightyena. Dark type not a real factor, but has access to those fang attacks. Intimidator, so hit the weaker special side. Speed not an issue, but possible priority moves and stat drops. Go for status. As if he ever did anything else with Tox. The last round had started pretty well, so he'd try that tactic again. His choice was made somewhat easier by the Mightyena's inherent ability. One of the more powerful physical attacks would have been helpful, but not while Tox was psychologically impaired like this. "Like last time, Tox." The bat steeled himself, and sprang into motion. Using his speed, he fashioned himself some strobe lighting, hurling it into the pooch's face. He didn't like the look of those jaws, so the plan was to burden the Mightyena with statuses and hax until they were no longer a statistical threat. Not content with serving up just one helping of bad luck, Tox then went on to whip up a razor-sharp column of air to wing towards his opponent. A non-physical attack that had a chance of flinching was the ideal move to use, given the circumstances. ~~~~~ - "Maelstrom"Ability: Intimidate Vitality: 10/10 *Crunch + Thunder Fang* vs - "Tox"Ability: Inner Focus Vitality: 10/10 [Attack -1] *Confuse Ray, Air Slash* |

The flash of lights was the first sign of the Crobat's offensive. As the dazzle blared themselves into the eyes of Maelstrom, the Crobat continued on with its devastating path of anger. With rapid blinks did the Mightyena shake off that confusion momentarily before latching his fangs into the soft flesh of the wings that belonged to the critter before him. A howl of pain lashed out before the wind decided to pick up and throw Mally across the arena, who deigned to get back on his feet and snarl at the Crobat. Perhaps his irritation at seeing so many of these was picking up as his mouth started crackling with a golden light, leaping through the air even as the lights in his eyes danced like lovers amidst the cha-cha. Unfortunate that those lights were so distracting that his confusion caused him to miss the target, flying across the air once more and landing some distance behind Tox. Perhaps it was Maelstrom's fate to be thrown all around the arena of battle. The crowd was loving the opening scenes already; this battle, the semi-final, was bound to be an excellent contest, better than the ones they'd seen prior to this. While the other battle had not gone so well, this one was shaping up already. It was amazing. This was a fight for the television, definitely. With the cameras all around, what was to be done next in the heat of battle? ----- 'Tox'6/10 VP 'Maelstrom'6/10 VP |

The opening exchange had come and gone, and Tox wasn't a twitching pile of static sprawled out on the arena floor. That had to be considered a success, then. Add to that the Mightyena's state of confusion, and Alex was quite happy with how this battle had started. Not that it showed on his face, though. He was far too busy extrapolating mental scenarios to join in with the crowd's rabid cheering. Dozens of them flashed into his head, most being rejected for either being too risky, or too inefficient. Once he'd decided on the 'best' course of action to take, he relayed it to the waiting bat. "Bombs away, Tox." The fact that only one attack was suggested to Tox meant that the tricky pteropine terror was trusted to formulate his own plan of attack. Hey, it had worked last round. Might as well try it here. The Crobat pivoted to face the opposing pooch, and pressed forwards. A series of schemes formed in his head as he circled the Mightyena, schemes so diabolical that no human trainer could conceive of them; well, no trainer who could claim to be sane, anyway. Tox filtered through them until he found the choicest cut of sheer planned nastiness. Using this plot, he deliberately triggered some inner queasiness. The bat's centre bloated, then his mouth stretched open and forcibly vomited up some truly vile corrosive sludge, projecting the foul concoction towards the Mightyena. It definitely wasn't pretty. It might not even have made good family viewing. But if it worked, it would definitely work well. ~~~~~ - "Tox"Ability: Inner Focus Vitality: 6/10 [Attack -1] *Nasty Plot, Sludge Bomb* - "Maelstrom"Ability: Intimidate Vitality: 6/10 [Confused] (From what I gathered in the mod) *Something, Maybe Something Else* |

Paws skidding on the floor, Maelstrom whipped around to stare at the backside of the bat, head wobbling on his neck. Two, one... no... Yes, there was only one. Wait... he wasn't sure. The world around him wavered and flashed, lights making him blink rapidly. The bat was on the move again, and the dog was back to growling as he tried to keep an eye on it. There was something about the look on Tox's face that he didn't like. "Heeey you. You quit that," he barked, though wasn't exactly sure what he meant by that statement. It seemed important to say at the time. "Everyone seems to like doing that," Steely pointed out to nobody in particular with a small sigh, arms crossed, tapping her fingers. It wasn't the most ideal opening to the battle, but it could have been worse. Silently thanking whichever of the Cerberus Beasts she'd decided on today (Entei, since it was the physically strongest of the three), she quickly concocted her own plan. It wasn't as bat as Tox's, but hopefully it would be just as effective. "Hold your ground, Maelstrom." The dog spread his stance, tail wagging. He was having a hard time keeping his eyes on the bat, but it looked like it was doing something. Steely realized that she didn't have much time; Tox appeared ill. "And sock him!" Suddenly coiling his legs with unknown speed, the Mightyena jumped straight up without thinking, paws stretched out before him, glowing with faint black. He would get there before the bat could do anything, and even while he was leaping, Steely thought quickly. Tox was going to spit something... "Smack it back at him. Iron Tail!" Hopefully socking the bat something good with his paws, his upward momentum carried him a little further, even as his tail became metal edged and solidified. Couldn't poison what was metal, and hopefully Maelstrom could get his timing down and smack the sludge right back into Tox's face. If not... no big loss. -- - "Tox"Ability: Inner Focus Vitality: 6/10 [Attack -1] *Nasty Plot, Sludge Bomb* - "Maelstrom"Ability: Intimidate Vitality: 6/10 [Confused] *Sucker Punch -> Iron Tail* |

This battle was getting more and more intense by the moment as the two combatants began to engage in some close-quarters combat that kept the crowd on the edge of their seats - the slightly-swaying form of the Mightyena as he tried to find his ground and stand it with all fours planting themselves, and the ill form of the quick-thinking Crobat. None of them could have forseen what was to come next; a cleverly-disguised attack in the form of a Sludge Bomb that most would simply think was vomit, with a sneak attack being launched on the sickly-seeming Crobat. And-- better still-- the tail of the Mightyena preparing for the assault by hardening and striking the bile itself. That attack had gone mostly to plan. While it didn't work quite as well as expected, for the vomit was more widespread, it was in the main sent back to the Crobat who had launched it originally. Now both Pokémon were dripping with the excretions of the bat, which would likely weigh them down a little and make this fight perhaps a little more disturbing to watch. While the crowd didn't cheer so loudly this time, they were all watching with interest - they wanted to know how this would go with vomit all over the combatants. ----- - "Tox"2/10 VP - "Maelstrom"3/10 VP |

Hovering in midair for a second, his tail dripping with muck, Maelstrom finished his rotation and started to drop, but Steely hoped that he'd have time to do one final thing. Hopefully something that would make the difference and let Maelstrom pull off a win against the bat. "Grab him in you mouth, Maelstrom. Don't let go!" As the dog fell, he opened his jaws and snapped for the bat, trying to find a hold and not let go. Not only would his teeth themselves be painful, Steely sounded like she had a plan, so keeping his jaws locked on the other Pokemon was his goal. At the very least, it'd keep it from flapping around for a few seconds. "And make sure you take him down! Slam 'em into the arena floor!" while it wasn't... quite Steely's style to be this ruthless, anything with the speed, healing, and other advantages that Crobat's had, needed to be taken out as quickly and efficiently as possible. She didn't want to give Tox the chance to heal. Doing as he was asked, Maelstrom twisted his body so he'd come down on his front paws, and turn his head to slam the other right into the arena floor. It was his oath to his trainer, to do what he could. -- - "Tox"Ability: Inner Focus Vitality: 2/10 [Attack -1] *-* - "Maelstrom"Ability: Intimidate Vitality: 3/10 *Crunch -> Assurance* |

(Um, is Maelstrom still confused or not? I couldn't tell from the mod, and Elijah's not mentioning any stat changes.) Well, thought Tox as he shook some of his own regurgitated sludge off his wings, That's kinda tedious. And a bit gross. Oh, the plan was fine, that had gone reasonably well. It was just that he hadn't accounted for the Mightyena actually swinging into his attack. At least the pooch had been suitably ickified as well. The bat's plotting had been worthwhile. That said, he was getting a bit run-down from the fight, and an urge to rest up poked annoyingly at him. He hovered in his ready position, hoping that Alex would see this and act quickly. Luckily, Alex was thinking just that. He'd seen that both pokémon were in poor condition, and that meant that whichever of the two could react the quicker would be at a huge advantage. Another occasion where Tox's speed was his greatest asset, then. Well, that, and his scheming-enhanced ranged attacks. "One more, then break." Yep, just what Tox thought his trainer would do. He didn't even wait for Alex to finish the command to spring into action. It wasn't too difficult for the bat to dredge up some more sludge from his gut, not while he was surrounded by the stuff. He saw the canine's jaws open, and took his shot, aiming a stream of toxic waste over to its head and face, trying to force some down its throat, or into its eyes. Anywhere he could get it in order to finish off the Mightyena before those terrible jaws clamped onto him. Eventually, his immediate supply of sludge would run out. Once he was done with his attack, Tox circled down and landed, attempting to take a breather and recover himself somewhat. Both he and Alex could only hope that his latest attack would be enough. ~~~~~ - "Tox"Ability: Inner Focus Vitality: 2/10 [Attack -1, Sp. ((This is an extremely hard pair of posts to mod. x_x And no, it is not confused. I'll start putting statuses in.)) While the Crobat prepared its second toxic assault to launch at the dark mutt that was so vapidly assaulting it, both of them managed to launch their final attacks in the same moment, giving rise to an extremely deadly combination of fang and filth. The violent blast of bile was enough to slam into the Mightyena and coat it with the disgusting toxic substance, but at the same time it had also brought its jaws into the flying beast. Both of them, together, slammed down into the ground - and both of them were down for the count. While Mightyena had been destroyed by the disgusting vomit, the Crobat had been defeated, by all things, the force of gravity, as it was slammed into the ground almost in the fashion that Steely had been hoping for. Almost, but not quite - nevertheless, there were now two downed combatants, and both Trainers would need to pick their second ally to send into the realm of battle. And, on top of all that? The crowd went wild - a double knockout was always great to see. It promised even better battles to come. ----- - "Tox"0/10 VP - "Maelstrom"0/10 VP |

The impact with the arena floor made Steely wince slightly, looking away for a second. No sound came to her ears, so it was no surprise that when she looked over, neither of their Pokemon moved. Good enough, she supposed. (Biggest hurdle: Jumped.) Sighing, she pulled out Maelstrom's ball and withdrew him, smirking as she put it in her pocket and easily grabbed her next without looking. Her wrist flicked, sending the expanded sphere into the air, and into the arena. The flash of light tapered off, revealing a Pokemon that Alex would recognize. "Look familiar?" "Rai rai," Desoto twitched his long tail, looking around. He spotted Alex, realized that they were in the arena, and knew what was going on. The electric rat flexed his legs and tail, bouncing on his paws. Now they just had to wait for Alex's choice. She already had an idea of what it was going to be, now they just had to wait and see. -- - "Desoto"Ability: Static Vitality: 10/10 EDIT: I forgot to mention, I'm going to use Desoto's regular moveset for his level up moveset since... The fabled Double KO was always a big crowd pleaser. Alex would have preferred it not to happen, though - it meant that Tox had felled the opposing hound only at the cost of being knocked out himself. Still, it was better than outright losing. As he recalled the fallen bat, his attention turned to Steely's second pokémon. Indeed he did recognise the orange rodent. The Raichu had been impressive when the two trainers had had a practice battle, and although Alex had a good idea as to its capabilities, he couldn't really do much to counter its opening play. Not anymore, anyway, with Tox down. "I thought he might show up." As for his own pokémon, the choices were narrowed down pretty quickly. He plucked another ball from his belt, and flicked it out into the arena, putting a hint of spin on the toss for added effect. From the ball, a blue glowfish emerged in a flash of light. It was a pokémon that Alex had used in his first round match, and the Lanturn had done well, to a point. This would be a slightly better matchup than the Donphan had been. Flux blinked, taking in her arena surroundings. When she spotted the Raichu, her headlamp flashed with delight. It must have been the static that he was giving off; Alex noticed that she was drawn to electricity. In fact, that was the main reason he picked her to face the Raichu. Not having to worry about its main attacks was a bonus. Didn't really help against the fake out he knew was coming, though. Ah well, might as well try something. "Go get him, Flux." The Lanturn joyfully careened in, using her head as a battering ram, aiming to cut off any potential first attack with her own sucker "punch". More like sucker headbutt, seeing as she didn't really have the arms to actually punch. There was no guarantee she'd even get that far, but it was worth a shot. As a follow-up, she would turn on her charm, trying to captivate the electric rodent into feeling some of the attraction that was so obviously going on between the two of them. Alex could have sworn he even heard Flux giggle. Perhaps he hadn't fully thought this through. ~~~~~ - "Flux"Ability: Volt Absorb Vitality: 10/10 [Sucker Punch, Attract] Vs. - "Desoto"Ability: Static Vitality: 10/10 [Some combination of attacks] |

... Desoto was suddenly withdrawn, Steely tossed the ball up and down in her hand once, looking both unsure of herself and extremely sad at the same time. Though, like a yo-yo, she looked back up at Alex with a huge smile. "I surrender. Good luck in the final round," her voice cracked slightly at the end, but before he could say anything, she turned and hopped down the steps, disappearing into the no doubt bewildered crowd. -- I can't win this and I know it.
