So... round two was over. Is it really? No. But lets say it is and move on. Sitting on Chaos's shoulders, Steely had her hand shielding the sun from her eyes... despite having a hat and everything, and a look of Intense Concentration upon her face. They were looking for someone... "He's how tall? How can you not find him?" >: "Magic, obviously," D: Grumble. It was only Chaos and Steely for the moment, everyone else was resting in their balls. Chaos was a good perch to sit on and he was... well, tall enough. If she sat on his shoulders, then she could see over people's heads! Very useful, you see. "Aaaalex, where are you? D:" |

(0.2 , and have another 0.2 for your post in the last thread.)Sometimes, Alex found his height very useful indeed. For instance, navigating through a crowd of tournament-goers to locate a particular trainer. As it turned out, visibility in a large group of people was greatly increased when your entire head was above the crowd line. It made things much simpler. Okay, look for the Blastoise... ah, she's sitting on it. He waved once he saw Steely, and promptly made his way over. No Tox this time, he was taking a well-deserved break after his last match. It had slipped Alex's mind as to the exact details of the contest. Strange. Ah well, he'd probably remember it later on. Hey, Steely was at eye level now. People should sit on giant turtles all the time - then he wouldn't strain his neck as much. "Hey Steely. Ready for that battle?" He'd finally be able to battle with a couple of the pokémon he hadn't used yet in the tournament. He would have asked her how her match went, but she probably had the same selective amnesia that had struck him. Darned space-time dilation shenanigans. |

.2 ![]() Steely perked up when she saw her tall teammate, raising a hand to wave, keeping a good grip on the rim of Chaos's shell with the other. The water turtle easily parted the crowd, and Steely was pretty happy that her starter turned out so big. Made things a lot easier. She grinned at him when the Blastoise slowed to a stop, about to slide off, but then she realized that he didn't have to look down to see her. Prolly was better on his neck, she supposed. So instead she just got comfortable up there. "Yeah, sure. One on one? I don't want to wear all our Pokemon out," she looked down at Chaos as he grumbled, making a face, "I could battle!" "I have a Raichu and Skuntank that could use some exercise," she grinned, thinking to Desoto and Tank. Another thought struck her, though she'd have to find a computer and switch her party around for the time beoing... "Or a Tyranitar. I'm sure Aloid would like to get out and do something," she laughed a little. She really would like to do something with him, having not commanded him in battle for a while, but she'd understand if he didn't want to fight him. No harm in asking, though. |

(0.2 )"One on one's fine. My Butterfree could use a run-out." That's right, folks. Someone actually brought a Butterfree to this tournament. Ahead of Ninjask, Ninetales, Kadabra, Manectric... it was just that good in this tournament setting. The whole 'fatal weakness to rock' thing had stopped Alex using the bug so far in competition, but a friendly match would be perfect. He plucked a pokéball from his belt, and sent out the insect in question. "Monarch, this is Steely, Steely, Monarch. She was the first pokémon I caught after I got moved to Opaddeka." As Monarch flitted around and voiced a greeting, it occurred to Alex that he hadn't mentioned that he was a Legacy native. It didn't really bother him now - he'd long since adjusted to the change. Either Raichu or Skuntank would be a challenge for the bug. Tyranitar, though... probably a bit too much. "Not that I don't enjoy a challenge, but a Tyranitar might be a bit beyond us." It wouldn't be impossible to win; he'd just need a ridiculous amount of luck, and the battle wouldn't be much of a spectacle. "Other than that, either one should be a good match." Wait, she had a Tyranitar and she wasn't using it in the tournament? That was bold, to say the least. ~~~~~ (Info) "Monarch" x 4.5Ability: Compoundeyes |

.2 ![]() She tilted her head at the mention of a Butterfree. She liked those! Not enough to keep one (she did have one when she first started out), but she admired him for having it. She had a soft spot for common, first generation Pokemon. "Hehe, hello," she smiled at the butterfly, waving a little bit. Chaos watched her too, blinking. Another flying thing. Alex seemed to like flying things. Steely nearly mentioned the fact that he was from Legacy, but decided not to. She seemed to have met a lot of people like that. "Heh," she reached up and scratched the back of her head, grinning sheepishly, "I figured. 's cool," She supposed that Aloid would have to get out and stretch some other time. She had to push her coat aside to get to the Pokeballs on her belt, selecting one in particular and tossing it out after expanding it. It opened, bouncing back up into her hand once the creature was released. The Raichu shook, sparks falling from his fur, wiggling his tail as he looked around. "Hey Desoto. Ready for a little fight?" she reached down to pat the rodent's head between his ears, wincing at the static. "Sure, I guess," he twitched his tail, looking up at the Butterfree. "Alright. You guys first," Chaos backed up, and the crowd parted and moved away, seeing two Pokemon facing off. Good thing somebody pays attention, right? -- x5 - "Desoto" Ability: Static Um. I dunno if you read Cerby and I's battle, but it goes something like this: Freeform-styled, no HP/VT, we control what damage and dodging and everything... um. Any move in their movepool, but since Raichu is kinda a special case, I'm usin' his moveset on his profile for his Level Up moves. Defeat comes when they're too tired to battle. That sound good? We can do it some other way if you like. |

(0.2 . I haven't tried freeform battling, but sure.)Yep, the tourneygoers seemed to enjoy any show of pokémon martial artistry, even an impromptu match in the complex. Alex took a few steps backwards, letting the crowd form around the two of them to designate the "arena". Monarch flitted to his end, waiting for whatever Steely decided to send out. The Raichu, then. He cracked a smile. This would be interesting. Immediately, Alex launched into what some of the onlookers might recognise as 'analysis mode', his eyes darting over the Raichu to assess and rank any and all possible threats to his own pokémon. Friendly contest or no, he was at least going to take it seriously. Raichu. Electricity's obvious. Fast, but not overly defensive. Paralysis threat, possible stat drops. Caution needed. Deciding that the Raichu's speed was the main problem, Alex went for his standard opening tactic. "Okay Monarch, Safeguard and Stun Spore." The butterfly started to glow, and covered herself in a mystical aura. She didn't much fancy the idea of getting paralysed, so her first instinct was to protect against it. For a time, the aura should block any unwanted statuses. On the bug's end, anyway. As for the electric rodent, Monarch would soon be giving it something to think about. Using her insectile eyes to scope out the Raichu's position, she swooped in and liberally sprinkled yellow spores over its general location. It was just too fast to fight while it was unhindered, hence the early focus on indirect attacks. ~~~~~ [Safeguard, Stun Spore] |

.2 I don't think its that hard, though I've been doing it for years in other fandoms so... yeah. xDDesoto got ready... despite Steely saying 'you first', he fully intended to hit the bug before it hit him. Going onto all fours, the rat crackled with electricity, fur sticking up on end in some places, coming from his cheek pouches. Steely watched Alex's eyes quietly, a tiny smile tugging at the corner of her mouth. He seemed like the analysis type... he was R&D, right? "Alright Soto, shut 'em down," she said simply. The Raichu was off like a shot, shooting off with a crackle of electricity. Desoto was fast, and they were betting on it. Just enough time to get a quick little thing in. He was suddenly up in the Butterfree's face, foot paws forward to smack into her, letting off a quick crackle of electricity before falling back. What he wasn't able to stop was the spores, which got into his nose and made him sneeze. Augh. He shook himself, but -- *Paralyzed* [Fake-Out + Thunder Wave] |

(0.2 )Eep, electricity. Monarch didn't much like all that voltage and current hitting her - it kept making her delicate wings spazz out, and how was she supposed to flit gracefully around the arena if she kept spazzing out every ten to fifteen seconds? At least the rodent had eaten her spores, and was in the same predicament. Alex, meanwhile, was trying to figure out what to do next. Steely knew at least enough to be able to mostly counter his opening moves, but that was to be expected from hanging around the tournament complex and battling the best amateur trainers in the region. Normally, he would have gone for even more status crippling, but with Monarch's conditon, it was too much risk for not enough reward. Instead, he would go for good ol' fashioned straight attacking. Hey, it sometimes worked. "Use your hidden power, Monarch, and see if you can blast it as well." The butterfly fluttered casually upwards, and a brown ball of energy was summoned in front of her. At least, everyone gathered hoped that it was energy, 'cause otherwise that would just be nasty. Monarch waited until the ball was of decent size, and fully infused with the Hidden Power of Ground, then she lobbed it unceremoniously towards the Raichu. It would give Alex an approximate guage as to the poewr of the attack, and how useful it would be in the tournament proper. As an added bonus, the bug tried flapping her wings to generate a sparkling gust of wind. It almost worked, until the secondary attack was cut off by an untimely jolt of static. That was probably going to happen quite a bit, to both pokémon. It looked like the fight would be slowed down; that may or may not be a good thing. ~~~~~ *paralysed* [Hidden Power (Ground), half a Silver Wind] |

.2 ![]() Desoto sneezed spores, but it didn't do him any good. His muscles were seizing up and his nose itched, so he didn't figure he'd be doing much moving. Oh well... he was a rat that shot electricity, he'd manage. The girl grinned slightly, hands in her pockets, and leaned forward as if that would help Desoto hear her better, "Shockwave," she called out simply, " 'n then see if ya can get up there and Slam it out of the sky," she wasn't sure if he'd be able to move much, but at least he'd have the idea in his head. His fur started to bristle with electricity, though his tail drooped a little bit since his control of his body was slipping. Had to get something off before his muscles weren't able to squeeze out any electricity. A blasting shockwave of electricity bolted out from the rat in all directions, which the Butterfly responded with some of its hidden power, smacking the Raichu right in the back. That, and the fact that his muscles didn't want to cooperate... he wasn't going to be doing any jumping this turn. And that weird breeze flowing down didn't feel too good either. -- *Paralyzed* [Shockwave] |

(0.2 )Well that wasn't good. Too much electricity going round for Monarch's liking. Alex wasn't too thrilled either. Time to do something about it. "Land, Monarch. See if you can make that electricity a bit less harmful, too." Landing wasn't too difficult. The butterfly simply flitted gently down to the ground and curled herself up, trying to roost off most of the damage she'd taken. While she was there, the bug also attempted a Captivate, doing one of those fan-flirting deals with her wings. The lingering paralysis had other ideas, though, causing her to seize up right in the middle of her routine and spoiling the mood. At least she could still rest up on the ground. Hey, Alex suddenly remembered the result of his last match. Funny how things suddenly come to mind when you're occupied with something else. "I beat Kaiz." He said to Steely. "Three-zero. Tox was brilliant." Hence the bat's non-appearance here. He thoroughly deserved the break between rounds. ~~~~~ *Paralysed* [Roost] |

.2 ![]() Desoto again tried to shake the paralysis off, and his body responded by loosening up slightly, enough to let him move. Steely noticed this, seeing the rat's tail coil back up over his back like a scorpion. With the butterfly landing... flying Pokemon seemed to like doing that. Landing and healing. "Iron tail, quick while she's on the ground," she called out after thinking about it a little bit. The electric rat liked that attack, ever since he'd been taught it. Coiling his springy legs, Desoto bolted for Monarch, skidding to a stop near her and whipping his tail around, made of solid metal. Steely looked up from the battle at Alex, a smile spreading across her face. "Wow, that's impressive. Good job. I, uh..." she hesitated for a second, looking frumpy and diverting her gaze off to the side, "Well, I'm going to the semi-finals anyways," -- [Paralyzed] *Iron Tail* |

(0.2 )Well, the Iron Tail connected all right. It smacked right into the resting Monarch, and launched her up into the air. It would probably have been a nasty landing, too, had the bug not employed her wings to keep herself up. Her flapping was unsteady, but enough to keep her in a hover. While the Raichu's attack had undone most of her healing, Monarch was still in slightly better shape than before she'd landed. Alex considered his options. Another hidden power would help, sure, but he really wanted to see what some of Monarch's other options were. The more techniques he used here, the more he would know about their capabilities, and the less risk he would have to take when using them in a tournament setting. That, and Silver Wind was really pretty and sparkly. "Send down some more wind." Monarch duly did so, shaking loose some mystic bug-glitter from her wings and flapping it down towards the electric rat. Sparkle sparkle. Alex smiled when he learned that Steely had also won through. She didn't seem too thrilled, though. Maybe Jolt had forfeited? Whatever, she was still through. "Nice. Maybe we'll face each other at some point." ~~~~~ *Paralysed* [Silver Wind (sparkle)] |

.2 ![]() The rat's iron tail turned back to flesh and bone as it finished its arc, wiggling as Desoto pulled it back to rest over his head. Pattering around on all fours, he looked up at the butterfly, ears pinned back. Ack, it was flying again. AND more of those silver sparkle things that hurt were brushing over his fur and making him growl. Steely hummed to herself in thought, tapping a foot. It didn't look like Desoto was going to be going much longer at the rate it was going. That and both of them looked sort of miserable... "May as well try a grand attack, Desoto. See if you can nail her with a Thunder!" ...though, she looked a little nervous with herself after she said it, hesitating as if she was going to tell him to do something else instead. It was a little late for that, though, Desoto arched his back as he started to crackle with intense electricity, finally releasing it with a defiant bellow of "CHU!" his tail sticking straight up as the voltage arced up into the sky only to come down like a mighty bolt. Hit or miss, Steely winced away, not noticing that her arms were shaking. Yeah, she wasn't going to tell him to do that one again. "Yeah, maybe. That'd be nice, to have a big battle in front of everyone," she said once she looked back up at Alex, hands clenched in her pockets. A bolt of lightning... augh, never again. (0.2 )So, one-upsmanship was the game now, was it? Monarch tried her best to avoid the huge crack of lightning, but couldn't get herself fully out of the way in time. The bug squealed upon being clipped by the 'leccy, and started to drift downwards erratically. She wouldn't be able to take another hit. Even a Giga Drain or another Roost wouldn't help her against something of that power. Ultimate kamikaze suicide charge attack time, then. If Monarch could only let off one more shot, Alex would make it something to remember. Plus, he always wanted to see this particular attack in action. Something told him that the small gathering of onlookers in the tournament square would, too. He took a breath to centre himself, then spoke two words in that characteristically calm voice of his. "Hyper Beam." The Butterfree gathered all her remaining energy, and focused it in front of her. Once the build-up reached critical levels, she let rip, spraying out one last intense beam of pure energy. It didn't really matter that she'd have to spend some time recharging afterwards - the bug was practically done for anyway. ~~~~~ [Paralysed] *HYPER BEAM!* (If Desoto isn't KO'd by that, you'll win, so feel free to wrap it up.) |

.3 for making me cackleSteely was completely tense, but not because she was nervous about the fight... she'd scared herself from that Thunder Attack. It was just as well that the fight was ending, she wouldn't be of much help anymore anyways. The brilliant beam of powerful light slammed headfirst into the electric rat, sending him flying backwards into a tumble. He only landed on his belly and paws by sheer luck, struggling to push himself up only to flop back to the ground. "That's good enough Desoto," she said, crossing over to where he had fallen and scooping him up, wincing a little at the static. "Chu," She gave him a little affectionate squeeze and looked up at Alex with a faint smile, "Never actually seen that attack before, I don't think," she said, though she knew that Aloid knew the devastating move. -- I think the battle reward for the square is 20 TP and 5 , since 's what Cerby and I got before.

(0.2 . I saw Hyper Beam on the TM list and went with it.)Alex was suitably impressed by the Hyper Beam's power, and made a note of it for future use. While it wasn't quite as good as an Explosion, it was a very capable "last resort" attack in its own right. That seemed a good place to finish up the battle, too. As Steely went to retrieve her Raichu, Alex let Monarch drift down into his arms. After giving the bug a few words of praise and encouragement, he turned his attention back towards Steely. "Neither have I, to be honest. This seemed like a good time to find out what it could do." A crackle of static jumped at him from Monarch's body, snapping his focus back to the injured butterfly. "We should get these two to the Centre." For the sake of convenience, let's say that the battle took place just outside the main pokémon centre of the complex. Alex broke away from the dispersing crowd, and headed towards the medical building, turning to Steely as he left. "Good match, I enjoyed it." He turned away again, and ducked into the Centre, half-expecting Steely to follow him to get her Raichu healed up. ~~~~~ That reward sounds right. Do we get someone to confirm it? |

.2 ![]() Steely adjusted her grip on her Pokemon, since it felt like he was sliding out of her grasp as he slowly lost more and more muscle control. Desoto just looked grumpy as he slid down and then was gathered back up again. "I think my Tyranitar knows it, but I've never seen him use it... not a big fan of the lag that comes after, I guess," she looked at the butterfly, though wasn't able to tell if she was tired from the beam or tired from the battle. "Yeah, prolly. C'mon Desoto," she gathered him further up in her arms again, to which he just grumbled a little bit. She started after Alex, though it was more like she started towards the center since they were both headed in the same direction and all, and gave him a bright smile, "Yeah, me too. 's nice to have a little random fun," As she went in the door, her Poketech beeped in her pocket, and she reached down in to pull it out, flipping it open and blinking. The next round had been announced, and... "...looks like we'll get to have our big fight in front of everyone after all," -- That seems like a good place to end it, unless you want to post again and wrap it up. And uh, I think a mod can confirm it, so I'll see if I can get Elijah or Cerby to do it when I see 'em later. |
