The Escape Rope

- The Escape Rope is an extremely useful item for rookie trainers; it is a functional teleportation nodule, capable of extending an interstition field around a single person and instantaneously (or near enough) teleporting them to another specific location.

- The Escape Rope system, at least as it pertains to the Pokemon League, works through a system of fixed nodes (often called 'Grappling Hooks') which are found in all Pokemon Centres. They broadcast a slave signal throughout the structure; any Escape Rope unit brought into the building is automatically tied to the Grappling Hook. When triggered, the Escape Rope will return the owner to the last Grappling Hook location they had visited (usually just outside the door of the Pokemon Center).

- The Escape Rope is, of course, not really a rope at all; the common term is a holdover from the original product created by the Sylph Corporation many years ago, long since superseded by more efficient technology. The Escape Rope unit is, as with most things, a simple compact device which can fit in the palm of the hand. Though customizable, the factory unit is a simple rectangular black box with a small LCD screen (the screen's display can be toggled between the unit's current location and the location it will move to when triggered). There are four controls- the display setting, the control setting- which sets the unit to acquire signals from Grappling Hooks automatically or lock on the current one- and the trigger. The trigger is protected by a flip-top cap and a secondary finger guard to prevent the unit from being accidentally tripped. The fourth control is the emergency switch. The first time the emergency switch is activated, it will establish communication with the nearest pokedex, specifically its monitoring system. Once this is connection is made, the setting cannot be changed except by returning the unit to the factory. The emergency switch then has two settings: the default is a kill-switch. If a trainer's Pokedex records that all Pokemon in the trainer's party have fainted, it will automatically trigger the Escape Rope unit and teleport the trainer back to their set location. This can be turned off by the trainer, making all triggers manual.

- The Escape Rope uses a lot of power to do what it does, and every use is expensive. All units come with three charges; fresh charges can be bought from most trainer stores for about 500z. If the unit has run out of charges, the emergency switch is set to teleport and all of a trainer's Pokemon are defeated, the unit will use the reserve batteries to perform its task; however, this will permanently cripple the unit, and it will need either repair or replacement.
