(I don't think this counts as a full freeform, rather a scene that explains why Dynamo is always out of his pokéball. The "aim" is to make it so that Dynamo is more willing to be recalled and stored in the PC for short periods.) ~~~~~ Misthenge was a peaceful little village. Alex had discovered that the first time he'd come here, and the same held true now. There was nothing specific he had to do this time round, though - just a rest stop on his way back down to Radloff. Right now, he was in trainer accommodation at the pokémon centre, idly browsing his pokétech for something of interest. Also in the room, two of his pokémon were chatting away. Dynamo, who was always out of his ball, and Mime, just done with Alex's checkup in preparation for the Radloff gym challenge. "Dynamo, can I ask you something?" The clown shifted the topic from idle chat. "Sure, what is it?" "How come you stay out of your ball so much? I mean, every time I've seen you, you're outside. Alex never sends you back in, even when you're better off there. Why's that?" It was an innocent enough question from the clown, but Dynamo still shuddered at the mention of a pokéball. "I just don't like 'em. The whole idea freaks me out." "Freaks you out?" Mime repeated, a puzzled look on his painted face. "How?" "How could it not?" Dynamo retorted. "Look how big we are, and look how small one of those balls is." The pooch nodded to Mime's pokéball, resting on the dresser in the room. "I don't know how we're supposed to fit in there. It can't be good, being squashed up like that." Something in Mime's head clicked at that last statement. Dynamo must be claustrophobic. It explained why he kept pacing whenever he was in a small room, why he preferred running around outside. Even why he voluntarily clung on to a Gyarados when in the ocean instead of being safely inside a ball. But one thing still nagged at the psychic, and since he didn't want to pry about in his friend's brain, he went ahead and asked it. "You're telling me you've never been inside a ball? Even when you've been knocked out?" Dynamo paused, and thought back, remembering the one time Alex had had to break his promise to him on the day they met. "Only once," He eventually conceded. "It was before we met you. We were battling another trainer. We won, but I got beat. I remember blacking out, but nothing else until Alex let me outside again. I was pretty pissed at first, but I understood why he did it." Mime grinned his clownish grin. He'd picked up on one small snippet of information. "You say you don't remember being inside the ball?" Dynamo nodded uncertainly. "Neither do I. No-one does. Alex tried explaining it to me once. Something about energy, and stasis. Basically, when you're in a ball, you don't have a body. You're just data, or energy. You don't remember anything because, well, you're not really there to remember it. No matter how long you're in a ball, or in one of those computers, when you get out, it's like no time has passed for you at all. There's really nothing to worry about." The electric pooch thought for a moment. He sort of understood what Mime was saying, in that the balls were safe. But not really being there? Not having a body? Was that really safe? Perhaps it was. After all, he'd seen other pokémon go in and out of the little balls hundreds of times, and nothing bad had happened to any of them. "So nothing bad happens to you?" "Nope. If it did, how would Alex be able to get Anarch in one without getting his head bitten off?" That provoked a wolfish chuckle from Dynamo. If anyone would object to being stored in a ball, it would be the Gyarados. He padded across the room, and spoke up again. "So how'd you get over it? I know when you joined us you liked staying outside." It was Mime's turn to chuckle. "Oh, I still do. It's just... back then, I was still young. I'd just lost Daisy, and..." Mime had to pause there. His first trainer had a special place in his heart, and her death still pained him from time to time. Still, he was glad that Alex had taken him in, and life was still good. He had done well to move on. "Travelling around with you guys was so exciting, I didn't want to miss a moment of it. It still is, of course, but once I grew up and evolved, I realised that I didn't have to see everything. I could still be outside, but once I knew I wouldn't be bored inside a ball, I was happy to go in one. It's like I'm outside all the time anyway, because to me, I don't spend any time inside, you know?" "...I think I get it now." Dynamo scratted himself reflectively as he came to terms with what Mime had told him. Perhaps the psychic was right - perhaps the ball was a good thing. "I'm gonna try going inside. Just for a minute or two, see if you're right." Mime grinned again. "You know I am." ***** Alex was interrupted by Dynamo nudging his leg. "What is it?" Dynamo nosed Mime's pokéball, then nodded towards himself, then the ball again. "Do you want to try going inside the pokéball?" Another nod and a bark. This was progress. It was the first time Alex could remember that the pooch was willing to try the pokéball. He'd ease Dynamo into it - only a couple of minutes at first. He unclipped Dynamo's pokéball from his belt, and, at the electric beast's nod, recalled him in a flash of red light. He waited for two minutes, then tripped the release mechanism again. As expected, Dynamo appeared again, in exactly the same shape he was when he went in. "Are you okay, Dynamo?" The pooch barked happily. "Good. You can still stay outside as much as you like. I'll tell you if I need to recall you again, okay?" Dynamo barked once more, then padded back over to Mime. Alex went back to his pokétech with a smile. If Dynamo was willing to go inside a ball on occasion, that meant he could explore more hostile environments without worrying about the pooch's well-being. If he ever wanted to go to Y'orek in the future, now he could. ***** Mime had watched the scene with interest, and noted that Dynamo looked decidedly unpeturbed as he ventured back to him. "Well? How was it?" He already knew the Manectric's cheerful answer. "You were right. I didn't feel a thing. I think I'll be okay with it." ~~~~~ So, yeah. Not really asking for anything, just making Dynamo more willing to go into a pokéball. Maybe some genexp, if it deserves any. In other news: Healing party. Team switch. Terra to PC, Beldum egg to party. (Let's say I did this before my post, so post 1/55) APL = 24.2 I haven't visited the Berry King in ages, so claiming max number of berries (4?) |

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That is why it is called the present. ~Oogway
