Aris wasn't sure why he was here or how he'd ended up here. But here he was, wandering the winding paths through the Tournament Park. Around him, random battles broke out on the raised platforms, and endless shops bearing their wares in the front windows. One looked much more extravagant than the others, and was the only one offering things for real zeni, instead of just these tournament points.

He'd missed the sign-ups and was really pretty mad about it. After ducking back out of the shop, bag much heavier than on its entrance, he began to look for those willing to battle.

Sikander loved this place already; back in Legacy, Hidden Power was a nearly mythic technique, the knowledge of which was native to very few Pokemon. Its encoded form was rarer by far; here he'd popped into Opaddeka, walked into a tournament, and they were selling it as a TM for 1000z a pop!

He restrained himself, buying just five of the discs (and they had plenty more!), and two others: Flash, which he was sure the Magi would approve, and Trick Room, which he had never heard of, but been so intrigued by the description of which, that he just had to have it.

He exited the prefabbed stall, sorting his acquisitions in a case to prevent their being damaged in his crowded arm-space (crowded only because he kept everything clustered quite close together), and had his attention drawn by a sibilant, subvocal whine, probably just within the range of human hearing to be really obnoxious. Sikander twisted around and smiled up at the Smith, perched atop the store he had exited, looking down at him with enormous, watery, gimlet eyes. She was nearing her fifth birthday; fives years, by his own timeline, since he'd shoved the remains of the soul of a god whom he'd personally shattered into a chunk of amber, and inadvertantly given life to the remains fossilized within. Fortunately, she showed no signs of the world-consuming malevolence of the original Smith; in fact, she was a bloody sook, constantly after his attention. Which was adorable, in a gargoylish, razor-fanged way.

" You're bored." He asked without equivocation; she wasn't hungry, he knew, because Philo had just watched her eat nearly an entire tauros. " You want a tussle to work off some of that meal?" He ordered by way of asking, and she shrugged her great, batty wings.

Sikander turned, and scanned the crowd; there were surely many looking to get into the mood of the tournament by engaging in battle while the main bouts weren't underway. Probably Sikander should have spared his pokemon from fighting, considering he was participating in the main event... but, that was what Pokemon Centers were for. He spotted a likely one, dressed in an unlikely manner, but not terribly small like most people were. He unabashedly pointed. " Right, you. How'd you like to fight that?" He indicated the Smith with a jerk of his thumb, and she obligingly beat her wings and snapped her jaws, indicating that yes, the guy in the pointy hat was referring to the aerodactyl.

Ah, a challenger, how great thought Aris excitedly as he quickly surveyed the new arrival. His eyebrows drooped and his mouth curved into a frown, for this one hardly looked like a pushover. Very tall and not in the least bit fluffy or nice looking, like he preferred. And, he was wearing the oddest clothes, which usually meant that the wearer was either enlightened and about to start hovering or was an axe-murderer. And, woah, the coolest pair of sandals Aris had ever seen. Winged. That was Greek or something.

And, what was this? A big flapping gray Pokemon behind him that Aris had been seeing a lot of lately. First that caveman from back in all the vampire and presidential business, and now this imposing figure had one. And he was talking and pointing, oh man!

"Battle that thing? Well, whatever," Aris said quickly. He spotted a raised platform, painted white with a pokeball figure in the middle off over his shoulder. That looked okay. "Over there?" He pointed and started walking determinedly.

"Where'd you get those sandals?" Aris asked, reaching the side of the side of the battlefield and vaulting over the protective railing and into the arena. He dropped a Pokeball as he meandered to the left side, and out came his sleek and strong Medicham, who probably didn't like being referred to like that one bit.

Sikander joined his opponent on the platform, and the voyeurs followed the beat of the Smith's wings, and the flash of light of a pokeball released, and began to crowd around. Sikander blithely ignored them, glancing up at the Smith hovering overhead, keeping to the air and keeping an advantage; the platform was not large, and was bounded intermittently on all sides by trees, making the flying ptera's room to maneuver rather limited. It wasn't an ideal environment for her... and that was good. She'd have to really stretch her wings for once.

Sikander grinned, and looked at his feet while he took out his pipe. The little wings flapped lazily as he wiggled his toes, and nearly knocked him off balance; cheeky bastards. " Banged a beautiful sorceress; she was so satisfied, she gave me them in gratitude." It was close enough to the truth; she had been pretty satisfied, too much to notice when he'd stolen the sandals to get away from the explosives he'd left before they went off. So really, he'd banged her twice... he just didn't like to boast.

" How d'you feel about a wager? Say... 3 large?" He wasn't actually confident of his young(ish) dinosaurs ability to win this fight- even with an apparent advantage. She was, after all, completely untried in single combat; her experience came from chases and ambushes, hunting and killing creatures more exotic by far than any simple pokemon could hope to be. And she was strong, yes... but this was the world he lived in now, and possibly forever, and she would need to get used to this, if he didn't mend his ways.

He realized he was daydreaming, and blathering on pointlessly about it; no one cared. It was time for fighting. Strategy.. medicham. Right; Psychic, fighting... Smith could hit both those things hard, the only question was whether the fighting-man in the baggy pantaloons would let her.

" Use your wings, baby, and try to bite him if you can't."

Smith gave no apparent sign of acknowledgment, except to stoop into a dive and rocket towards her opponent with wings spreads like a pair of blades. She was quicker by far than him; she had that at least going for her.

"Ooh, a sorceress? Impressive. Very magical," remarked Aris, feeling more and more out of place as they went on. This guy had many marvelous adventures under his belt. And his belt was much higher up than his own.

"A-a wager?" stuttered Aris. Ugh, that was terrible idea. The big brooding Aerodactyl looked like it could cut Medicham right in half. "Sounds very good. Yeah, let's do that, large!" Aris answered with a forced confidence.

"Should we start no--oh!" The Aerodactyl swooped suddenly towards he and Medicham. She looked at Aris, eyebrows raised, not at all fussed at the big menacing thing zooming towards her, not thinking about the big white teeth, the pointy claws at the end of the stiff, purple wings... Aris swallowed hard, took a few deep breaths, closed his eyes... your typical calming stuff. When his eyelids fluttered open at last, he took incoming attacker, Medicham's position, and the small crowd sticking to watch. A bright light flashed, he scrunched his face up, and spotted the reporter. Brown fedora. Had to remember that.

And, oh, he was getting sidetracked. "Easy now Medicham," he advised rather uselessly, as Medicham didn't look in the least bit worried. To the contrary, she was calm and collected, with just a splash of disquiet marring her features. "Let it come to you, avoid it, then confuse it!" He finished loudly and uneasily, gazing from the dive-bombing dinosaur, then to Medicham, who had turned and stood serenely awaiting her enemy, and the overeager reporter to his side.

Since you posted no stats, 45 *cough*, I'm going to assume you meant to use confusion.

===

Smith took to the air, ancient wings spread wide as she circled around the enclosed battlefield, stalking her prey down below. The Medicham, however, showed no sign of fear. The air was silent for a few minutes into the mighty Aerodactyl suddenly took the initiative and shot down, fangs spread wide in anticipation of the attack.

The fossil Pokemon was quick in the air, but Medicham was pretty light on his feet. Swaying softly as he prepared to leap, the fighter eyed his opponent, judging its speed and the time it would take her to leap out of the way. Seconds later, she pushed off, diving off to the side in a big to avoid the ferocious attack. He was just shy of making it, though, as the Smith's maw closed around one of her hands, biting down savagely. Screaming in pain, he leapt away, dragging his injured hand along with him. Smith also tried to lash out with its wings, but only managed to clear thin air at the odd angle.

Quickly deciding to attack while the Aerodactyl was still close, Medicham swung around, facing the giant bird. His eyes glowing with an unnatural light, he moved his other arm rhythmically, gathering the psychic energy until suddenly releasing it forward. The purple glow surged around, wrapping around Smith's frame and attacking her mind with a stabbing pierce. The confusion attack must have hit its mark, for the Aerodactyl suddenly began to move around in a haphazard pattern, mind seemingly blank.

.3 (I guess I should be going. That explains what York meant about finishing the post... XD And it would have cleared up the male-female issue. Also, I'm so out of it after this weekend.)

And in moments, the damn dinosaur had swooped in and chewed up Medicham's arm real good. Back she went dragging her bloodied arm along with her, eyes aflame in blue, injured and otherwise hands aglow similarly. The Aerodactyl sparked into color and head went crazy. Aris laughed as it struggled to stay afloat, and looked uneasily across at the towering trainer across the stage.

"Umm," said Aris uncomfortably, "Medicham, when it gets a little less wobbly, jump and smash it, alright?" A scathing eye-roll was his response, and he frowned and creased his brow distastefully. His Typhlosion never did this. She was a good one.

That one had an attitude.

Well that was just unlikely. Sikander puffed his pipe and grinned; he had become unused to such tricks. He was glad he'd opted to battle before any of his official matches, to get himself in the right mindset.

" Stop trying to fly, honey." He declaimed in his most strident voice, to pierce through her befuddlement and tickle her obedience. " I've always found, when you're feeling frustrated, it can help to just scream it out. Give it a try."

And, in the Smith's little mind, constantly suffering leakage from the highly-pressurized bundle of rage hidden inside it, that seemed like a splendid suggestion; screaming was one of her very favourite things to do. Things got scared and confused when she started bellowing, and that was always funny. She would try to fold her wings and drop to the firmament before she lost all sense of direction, and then let loose a nice bellow of disoriented fury, right in medicham's face. Her wings weren't listening to the rest of her, or each other, buffeting about hither and yon as though trying, each under their own power, to get aloft again, and by sheer size and weight walling the Smith's head and body from anything that wanted to approach.

It was terrifically undignified; pretty much par for Sikander's course. From what little he glimpsed of the medicham beyond the Smith's flailing wings, it was feeling a mite disoriented its own self.

" You want to give them a minute to get themselves together, and try again?" He suggested congenially, over the Smith's random, piercing exhortations.

(We're not going to get modded here, so let's start this shit over and do it freeform. If Steely and her clone can make it work, I'm sure we can, too).

With a bang of tired and stretched skin smacking against the toughened floorboard, the troublesome Aerodactyl surfaced before Medicham and less loose an agonized shriek. Aris stumbled back a step, clutching his hands over his ears and looking pityingly at his Pokemon, trapped right in front of the sound.

As the sound died, Medicham swayed where she stood, looking just as out-of-it as the Aerodactyl not even able to stay up in the air in front of her.

"Rest? Er, yeah," he said, catching the suggestion over the dinosaur din. Hoping the spoken words would click together inside his Pokemon's reeling skull, he shouted out, "Medicham, give it a moment. Rest. Hit 'em with a little High-Jump-Kick when you're okay, and they seem okay."

Sikander considered walking out onto the field to tend his beast, but figured she wouldn't be too long getting her head together; and while it wouldn't be the first time he was caught in the middle of a couple of Pokemon- and really, it would have been the most cordial such circumstance he'd experienced- there were protocols and niceties to service. The ring was for Pokemon; they'd know when they were ready.

When the Smith and the monk could meet each other's eyes without either of them going googly, they knew it was time to get back to it. The Smith hissed and shook her wings, displaying herself in all her magnificent hugeness, as though it could intimidate the disdainful creature she faced. It did not. He coiled like a spring in readiness, to meet her charge.

She didn't charge, though; he was a jumpy one. She helped him jump, throwing her wings back abruptly, catching hold of as much air as she could, and shoved it into a vortex, in medicham's face. He experienced a momentary rush of air whipping past him, and suddenly popped straight up into the air- not under his own power, but by the force of suction the Smith's vortex had created. He twisted, knowing what would come, and was rewarded- the Smith lunged after him, great stone membranes hauling her skyward. Medicham tried to attain some poise, but it was fruitless, as her great wings outreached his arms and legs vastly, caught him on their stony edge, and spiked him back down at the ground like a rocket.

.3, and, oh, I suck.

A very topsy-turvy moment of blowing, sucky winds sent Medicham up and up, where she was helpless, trapped like a fish out of water. In seconds she smashed against the ground, sending her just-cleared head all around again.

Aris bit his tongue, snapping back the order he begged to blurt out--Medicham had gathered herself quickly, flipping her nimble arms and hands under herself, and pushing out. She brought her thick pink legs down. They flexed and bent, a habitual, calming ritual, and the airborne Aerodactyl went flying backward, propelled by an unseen force.
