- The local UA Pok'emon admirer -
Today was the day-the fated day which another new trainer was to head off further into the marvels and wonders that the Opaddeka Reigon held. But, dear reader-if you were to simply assume that the person in question is yet another over-excitable kid thinking that they are going to become the greatest Pok'emon master of all time, you would be sorely mistaken. Yes-mistaken indeed-for the person going on a journey after many a day and night thinking about the issue is...wait, what AM I doing? I'm going to ruin the surprise before even getting into the story...I should be more careful. Reader-why don't you read on, and find out for yourself why this particular person is slightly different?

The sun shone over a small house, dilapidated in appearance yet-the house seemed to hold a certain charm and appeal about it. Although it, to be honest-would look more in place in a junkyard than here-that was part of it's appeal. It was an eccentric and unusual design in this particular look-the chimney (or what was left of it, anyway) was tilting somewhat to the side, looking as if it would topple over on some unsuspecting passer-by at any moment. The windows had a mosaic appearance-they seemed to be made up of at least five or more different kinds and colours of glass. As the sunlight shone down on this...rather peculiar little place, one would see an elderly man walking towards the area. The man-to be honest, he looked quite out of place up this way. The reason this was-was because the gentleman seemed to have a rather dignified appearance on first glance. He had a black, almost tuxedo-like jacket on which the collar stuck up on, and long blue jeans to match this as well. However-the gentleman must be not that young in years, for he also wore a top hat that looked to be reminiscent of old English fashions many years ago, and his face and hands were lined with wrinkles-the majority of these age lines being around the persons mouth. Perhaps this was a little clue to the fact the man was probably serious in persona, for he had a determined stride in his step as he walked towards the house, a black umbrella clutched tightly in one hand and a black notebook in the other.

But-if you looked more closely, you would see that the mans appearance was not all serious-he had, under his jacket, a common-place long-sleeved red-shaded T-Shirt that you could probably find just about anywhere, and said T-shirt was frayed at the sleeves, and very dirty there. The jeans, too, were rather shabby and frayed at the ends-and the black work shoes the elderly man wore-although polished to a nice lustre-were covered with scratches from head to toe. Was this fellow an old eccentric, as unique as the house, which he seemed to be headed to? He definitely seemed so, for his brown eyes seemed excited as he headed towards the house and knocked on the door. After a while, the door opened to reveal another gentleman, who looked old enough to be the elderly strangers grandfather. Upon seeing the gentleman, the man smiled, saying, Ah! Hershlinyoure back from your archaeology studies again. How did you go with it today..? The elderly man now revealed to be called Hershlin said in a serious tone, Uncle George, need you even ask?

He suddenly beamed into a grin, which seemed quite surprising on his serious-looking face, and laughed good-naturedly, saying, Every day at the studies is exciting for me. To probe into the great mysteries of times long pastto discover things unknown-it is all terribly exciting. It makes me feel like a young boy again, George He smiled, before folding his arms thoughtfully, the serious expression returning as he said, Butuncle George, whatever did you call me here for? I like to visit you, butto call me so unexpectedly is not like you.

George grinned at Hershlin, saying, Hahaha-Hershlin, you know how you were musing the other day thatbefore you moved to this area with me, because of your parentsyou missed out on a lot of things, am I right? Hershlin said, Yesbut Id rather not talk about them. The Kingston name that I inherited from themits nothing but a big pain for me. People track me down in the street, and accuse me of being like my parents-why cant they just see that I wanted to escape from the Kingston name-get away from that world that revolves only on how important your heritance is and money-and just study the grand mystery that is archaeology? I wont be able to get over my shyness of meeting people at all at this rate, if they continue to judge me without getting to know me. It is frightfullyfrightfully annoying, thats what it is, my dear Uncle.

George nodded, saying, Yeahyour mother and fatherthey always thought they were above everyone, even you and your sisterand for the longest time, you never got to pursue your hearts desire of thanking that pokemon that helped you by becoming a good trainer yourself. George suddenly broke into a grin, the sudden change in expression causing Hershlin to jump slightly, saying, U-uncle George! Pleasedont scare me like that. Its bad for my heart George flushed slightly, mumbling an apology before saying, But! NowIve finally done it.

He, after a moments pause, then continued on, saying, Iafter a while-Ive saved up enough to give you these Hershlin blinked as his uncle handed a very familiar thing to him AnEscape Rope? Uncle Georgewhy would you give this to me? Why, only trainers would have one of these Hershlin suddenly trailed off, realising his Uncles plan, and gasping, saying, U-uncle George! Y-you didnt George interjected, saying, Yes, I did. I signed you up to become a trainer! HAHAHA! Isnt that just great! Hershlins face paled considerably, and the elderly man said, Uncle Georgehave you been at the whiskey again? ImIm forty-five now. Ive never heard of such a thing as the league allowing someone MY age to become a trainerin fact, thats the only reason I never followed my dream of becoming a trainer once a I moved here, away from the filth that is my parentsI was not exactly young when I first moved to this wondrous region, you know.

George grinned even wider, saying, Awyoure always so serious about EVERYTHING. If they allow ten-year old kids who are really immature and go around beating poor wild pokemon senseless to become a trainerwhy wouldnt they let YOU be one? And besides-you may be a LITTLE oldbut that just means you have experience on your side, right? Hershlin said, Hmmmthat is trueand it would aid greatly in getting rid of my shyness of new people as well. George beamed all the wider at this response, saying, Great! Ill just pop inside and get the rest of the stuff I was planning to give you as well-and who knows! You might find yourself not only faithful friends in pokemon, but also a few lady friends as well, if ya know what I mean!

George winked after saying this, at which Hershlin sighed and said, Uncle George. You know as well as anyone that I dont like the idea of romantic implications or honeymoons and the like. Truly, if a woman suggests this to meyou know that Id state politely to them that I have to be going-which is almost always untrue-before running like the wind out of there, as if the hounds of Hades themselves were after meever since my parents tried to set me up with a girl long ago, Ive had the
fear of being tied down and unable to explore

George was not deterred by this truthful fact, and said, Well-who knows! You might get over that fear too, in timeIve heard Professor Willow is a real smokin lady! Hershlins eyes widened at this, saying, Uncle George! REALLY! Shes only about twenty-something, you know.. George blushed a bright red, saying, Y-yeahI know shes a LOT younger than mebut it doesnt stop me thinking shes hot and all. Uhmhow about I get that stuff now for you? Hershlin nodded, saying, That would be greatjusttry not to say anything else like that, alright..? I may think you are a wonderful member of my familybut you can be a rather bit silly at times. George, quite embarrassed now, bumped his head against the doorway as he headed back in to get the other things that he was going to give to Hershlinto finally start the elderly mans journey hed put back for so long.
*My current avatar was not made by me - it was found on bulbagarden. Also, credit for the EPIC WIN Darucho sprite goes to the very talented Nyro, not me.*

Cute and Fluffy Evil Overlord
As you waited patiently outside, several thumbs, crashes and other potentially worrisome sounds are heard within the house. Then....silence.

Which in it's own way is more worrisome than the noise. But before you've got a chance to do more than wonder if you should check it out, George bursts back out into the sunlight, grinning once more, his enthusiasm back. "Here, it's one of those new Poketech things...all the rage these days for trainers. Handy in about a million ways, they say," he rambled, pressing the device into your hands, along with an envelope.

"Pulled this out for you too, since it's yours and all," he finished. "You know where the lab is...wouldn't want to keep the Professor waiting, do you?" George grinned suggestively, then coughed as he recalled the conversation just a minute or so ago. "Er...well...I mean...good luck there." He turns and hurries back inside, once again embarrassed, not really giving you a chance to reply, tripping over the door's sill and all but falling out of sight.

Checking what you've got on hand now, the Escape rope has the standard three charges, and the envelope contains 5,000 zenni. As for the poketech...well, it's the newest model on the market.
Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That is why it is called the present. ~Oogway
