"Here comes the sun, little darlin'."

She could barely believe that it was morning, but the realization was one that hit her only very, very slowly. As her eyes slowly opened, she stared out blankly at the mid-morning sky as though she were drugged; her body was still enough to insist that she might have still been asleep, but something did happen. Her head lolled slightly to one side, and her mouth which had been hanging open finally snapped shut.

That didn't mean she was awake yet, but it didn't really have to. It just meant that she had to think, which may or may not have been a little more difficult than the young so-called 'adventurer' has been expecting. She blinked as the sunlight occurred to her, and so too did the fact that she had been sleeping, haunched under a tree. That wasn't so special, even if it did make her look like a hobo [no thanks to a fashion sense or lack thereof!], but it was her fist time camping. Technically.

No tent. No fire. Just a whole lot of earth stuff in her hair and on her clothes that she didn't particularly care about noticing. Absently, she brushed her fingers through her short hair, consequently pushing out any bits of dirt or leaves that had decided they would like to to stay there. Afterwards, she awkwardly, quietly examined her hand and fingers just to make sure they were still attached to her body. She wiggled her fingers for a little proof, and let herself get away with a small smile.

She did hate the mornings. Really, she did.

Maybe she liked being back... Well, the right word was home. At least, it was the right time for this go-around, a fact that was pounded into her head when she bothered to look up and out at the small, cozy town of Little Hillmoss. The name worked so well for the place, and here she had nearly forgotten that it worked so well. The nostalgic sight was enough to make her shake her head once, curling into her haunched posture rather than out of it as she rolled onto her feet.

Heaven knew that no one was going to recognize her now. She'd been young, and she'd been a midget back then- she'd been seven years old, and she hadn't just grown and become something like an adult. She'd done a whole lot of stuff, and the fresh air that didn't smell like stale windex was very welcome to her. A little unsettling maybe, but that was exactly what changes were supposed to do to almost anyone.

So different. It was so... Different to be here. Here, instead of cooped up in a hospital room. Not to say that she didn't like it.

It took her a moment to remember to balance on her neat little sandles, but she went through her cute little inventory check the first time so blandly one would think she might have done it a dozen times before. With all the apprehension of a practiced surgeon, she zipped open her ugly round sack that she had probably designed all by herself and let her fingers and eyes skim over everything that she needed.

A twig was not one of them, but she left in there regardless. Maybe she would want it later, though she had no idea what she would want it for. She carefully navigated over her two thick, heavy coffee mugs that had awkward little tops to them like most pans might; really, they were gifts, but she hadn't yet had the heart to explore what was in them. Idly she went off her small check list at the small, necessary bottles that hid in a small pocket of her satchel; medication and vitamins for herself- nothing a Pokemon could take. It wasn't something she was going to think about.

T
he last thing her fingers skimmed over was her small collection of hats, things more needed than the unwelcome translucent, orange bottles that she had hidden in that pocket. She paused over a well-worn one that must have been her favorite. She very deliberately pulled it out and unfolded it, staring into the plastic eyes and knitted smile of an unbelievably cute and unbelievably weird beanie. Really, who wore Tentacool beanies, these days? The long, yellow-brown tentacles hung down the side of her face like hair as she adjusted the hat and then her rounded glasses.

That, at least, was something that she had done every single day of her life for a long, long time now. As she moved to zip her bag shut, the paper 'bracelet' that had been hiding under one of her long sleeves flopped lopsidedly over her wrist. Something like callous annoyance passed her by, but she had decided to keep the thing, as a memoir if nothing else. It'd keep her head on, and remind her that this was going to be something that she was going to do come hell or high water.

She was pretty convinced both would come along, eventually. First, she had a lab to visit.

She still shoved the thing back up her sleeve in a surprisingly fluid but masculine gesture as she zipped her ugly sack shut and grabbed the thing through her bunched and band aid-infested fingers. This was enough to make her rise to her full height, finally teetering onto her feet and taking one awkward step forward as pollen drifted off of her shoulders. She wore modest enough clothing, and the worst part was that it was so gender-neutral; maybe that was the problem, maybe that was what had seemed so off.

Maybe she wasn't a girl, after all. What a weirdo.

ain't no new thing
In some magical plot device, you stumble upon a PokeTech, an Escape Rope with three charges, and 5000z.

That was pretty crazy.
