I'm tired of being a failure!

I awoke this morning with a jolt, remembering what today is. Quickly racing to do my morning routine, (nearly tripping in the process) I took a shower, brushed my teeth, combed my hair, and completed all of my other necessary tasks.

After all was done, I descended the stairs and headed into the kitchen where my mother was just finishing up breakfast. Pancakes, sausages, Eggs, and toast. It's no wonder I'm fat.

"Mornin' Mom" I said, yawning slightly. She grunted in my direction. Weird, I thought. I took my usual seat at the table. "What're we having?" I asked, she snorted.

"WE'RE not having anything. You think you're such a MAN now that you're seventeen, why don't you cook your own breakfast." She turned around and resumed cooking. I was stunned. My mother NEVER acts like this, what the hell is her deal? "Uh...PMS much?" I joked, trying to shed her of her bad mood. "No. And you're not funny." My forced smile faltered.

"OK, spill it, what's wrong with you?" I asked her. She turned around, tears started to swell in her eyes. "What?! You think I'm supposed to be happy that you're leaving me?! You're a baby! You should be here with me, not off parading with Pokemon! You want to end up like your Fath--" She stopped. Then the sobbing began.

I rolled my eyes and walked up to her. I placed my hand on her shoulder. "Mom...I have to go, I can't stay here all my life and deal with the mediocrity that Little Hillmoss is... I want to see the world, I want to discover new things, I want to live. I'm tired of being a failure!" I waited for a response. "You're not a failure." she wiped her eyes, and pulled me into an embrace.
"I...I just don't want you disappearing on me like your father...I can't handle that kind of drama anymore!" I pulled away from her. "I know mom...but...every pidgey has to leave the nest...and this pidgey has been roosting a little bit too long." She laughed. "Alright...but you're going to call me EVERY DAY, you got that?" She roared. I laughed and gave her a kiss on the cheek, and ironically at that moment, my stomach rumbled. "Uhh...but can I get something to eat first?" We both laughed and she turned back to the stove and resumed cooking.

After a long breakfast, and several "provision checks" my Mother walked me to the door. She opened it and began to say something.

"Dante, I..."

Your mother was simply having trouble putting her feelings into coherent words. Her own son, leaving the nest and heading out into the big world.... it was a scary thing, but she knew it was something that almost every teenager in Opaddeka went through. There was a calling out there in the Pokemon world, every young boy's and girl's dream to one day be the best trainer out there.

She reached behind the door and bent down, grabbing up a tiny package that was wrapped up neatly with a tiny note attached. Tears glistening up in her glassy eyes, she reached out and tucked the bag away in your bag. Her lip trembled slightly as she reached forward and wrapped her arms around you, squeezing until it hurt.

After what seemed like several minutes, she unclenched and then kissed you on the cheek. She took her fingerprints and trace little patterns along your shoulder, willing the moment to freeze in time and last forever. But it was time for you to move on, time to get on with your destiny.

"Goodbye... my son."

She turned and stared with melting eyes at you, mouthing goodbye as the moment was broken and forever lost. She watched her son walk down the walk and then turn the corner, disappearing from view. She wiped a flowing tear from her cheek and then shut the door behind her.

The note still hung limply from the package. It was written in a flowery print and a picture of your mom was tucked inside.

I hate to see you go, but I know this is what you really want. Losing your father was the hardest thing I've ever gone through, but I'm going to wait for you too. Don't let me down, Dante. I know you can do it.

Love, mom.

Along with the note and picture was 3000z, a Poketech device, and another device called an Escape Rope with three charges.

[Sorry if you wanted to continue role-playing or whatever, if you want you can just disregard the whole leaving thing and pick up wherever you want.]
