I opened my eyes with a jolt. My face was flushed, and my body was covered in cold sweat, meaning that I'd have to wash my pajamas sometime soon. I shook my head to refresh my thoughts a little. Where was I? Oh yeah. My bedroom. Duh, Jack, where else do you sleep? Idiot. I took a deep breath, calming my heart rate slightly. It had just been a dream. Now, I normally don't dream all that often, and when I do, it normally means something. Or at least I think it does. I remember when I was still in high school, I dreamt that I was being strangled by massive, living noodles. The very next day, the cafeteria served spaghetti, and there was something in the sauce that put half my class in the hospital. Well, not really. In truth it just didn't taste very good. But I like to think that it was only a narrow miss. This wasn't quite like that, though. I didn't really remember it in great detail. Don't you hate how dreams can be on the tip of your mind like that? All I remember was being next to something really big. What did that mean? Maybe I'd be going mountain climbing in the near future. It didn't seem like a mountain, though... What did it seem like? It was almost eight in the morning, so I turned off my alarm and got up to get an early breakfast from my kitchen. I threw a bag of popcorn in the microwave and poured some juice from a carton down my throat. There was a knock on my door, so I put down the juice carton on the table and shuffled over to the entryway. Still rubbing the sleep out of my eyes, I unlocked the door and pulled it open. It was my best friend, Max. He was dressed surprisingly well, for him, anyway, which probably equated to "normal" for everyone else. It seemed like he was shaking, and I assumed it must be cold out that morning. He looked at me for a moment, and then looked me down. "Did you just wake up?" he asked. "Yeah... like five minutes ago, or something," I replied, "why are YOU up already?" "Well, I needed to be up early for an appointment. It had to be the morning." he said. "Took some chick to the abortion clinic again?" "Ha ha. No, but seriously. I need your help. I'm applying to be a pokemon trainer, and-" "You're what?" "I'm applying to be a pokemon trainer." "Why? Isn't that for like... little kids?" Max gave me a look. The microwave gave a ding from the kitchen, popcorn was done. "Look, just bear with me here. I'm applying to be a pokemon trainer, but they won't let me register with my drug record." he admitted. "You don't have a drug record." I said. "You got it wiped after doing all that community service." "Well, maybe by 'drug record' I mean that she could tell I was on drugs when I was there." Max's shivering suddenly made more sense to me. "Ah. Want to come in and sit down?" I stepped aside to let Max in the door. He strolled in and opened up the microwave, and started eating my breakfast on the couch in the living room. "So here's the thing." he continued. "You don't have a record or anything, so you're going to go and get a pokemon and stuff for me." "What?!" I replied. "I'm pretty sure that's illegal. You can't have access to a pokedex and all those computer storage things if you're not registered." "I'll just go under your name." he said. "Do you remember what we decided about that last time?" It was a long story, but it was probably the only long story in the history of the town where a building was demolished with only a metal bicycle and three gallons of mustard. Max, of course, had done it, and I was the one who had to go in debt for six months to write the check to clean it up. It was clear that Max was thinking about the same story, since he was chuckling. "Did we decide that we liked it?" he asked. I returned the glare he had given me before. "Look, alright, alright. Can you just give it a try?" I rolled my eyes and quickly opened my mouth to refuse this idea of his before it even got started: "Okay, fine," I said, on accident. "Great!" Max jumped up and grabbed my coat from the hook near the door, and threw it over his own shoulders. He took a bundle of rope I had laying on the floor and put that over his arm as well, for some unknown reason. "Get out of your PJ's and meet me at the lab in a half hour. Later!" he said, and stepped out the door. I sighed. Well, at least this was better than any other plans I had this morning. Which was nothing. I changed and cleaned up, then I grabbed my cell phone and wallet and locked up my house, heading to the lab. Whatever. |

0.3 Whatever darnit! Your wallet is full of an incredibly whatever amound of bills. Which is like, 4500z. Your cellphone is what people call Poketechs here, and, while I'm sure you really don't have a point in owning it -but you do anyway cause I said so-, you have an Escape Rope with three charges. Y'know...just in case. WHATEVER. |
