It's not worth it.

A small beep emitted from the clock on the bedside table, snapping the boy awake that lay there. He punched the small button on the alarm clock, which read 4 a.m., and sat up, rubbing his eyes and letting out a loud yawn. He blinked several times and swung his legs over to the floor. A creak erupted from the floor board and he grimaced. The point was to keep as quiet as possible, but with this hundred year old floor beneath him it wouldnt be easy. He crept over to the closet and grabbed a pair of jeans and t-shirt, pulling them on. He slipped into a pair of socks and pulled on his shoes. He ruffled his hair slightly in the mirror until he was satisfied with the look, then checked around the room for several minutes to make sure he had grabbed everything he had needed. He had packed his bag the night before to make this morning as easy as possible. Grabbing it up and slinging it over his shoulder, he slipped out and cautiously shut the door behind him. He tiptoed down the stairs, skipping the step that he knew creaked every time you stepped on it. There was no warm smell of breakfast wafting up from the kitchen, or a mother with a loving smile ready to hold you in her arms before you left. An eerie silence greeted the boy as he entered into the living room and set down his things. This is really it. The boy uttered to himself as he grabbed the small package of food he had wrapped last night from the cabinet and sliding it into his bag. He found a small notepad and a pen on the counter, so he grabbed it and decided he would write his mom a note, just so she would at least know where he was. Mom I dont know of youll miss me or not, but I cant bear this anymore. Im leaving. I knew I wouldnt be able to face you, so I snuck out. Im going to become a Pokemon Trainer, and Im going to try my best. I know Ill never compare to Liz or Mark, but maybe maybe one day youll be proud of me, like you are of them. Why bother to even try to match up to their perfectness, though? So I guess thats everything. I know youll be alone now, but at least you have Skitty, right? Im sure that shes all youll need. I was never much a comfort anyway. So, I guess this is goodbye, mom. Ill see you again someday. Your son, Prosper Prosper left the note on the counter and turned around. Skitty was sitting near the door, a small package dangling from her jaws. She scurried over, sliding along the hardwood floor and mewling in distress. Prosper caught her, smiling, and stood back up. He grabbed the small package and undid the string, pulling it open. A small amount of money and two small devices sat in the container, along with a folded note. Prosper stared curiously at them for a moment before taking the note and scanning through the words. Prosper, I knew it was only a matter of time before this time came. The same thing happened with your older siblings. I could see it in your eyes and your actions that youve been unhappy, and Im not going to try and stop you. Just take these things; I hope that they help you. I love you, and know youll do well. Be safe, and make me proud. Prosper fought back tears as he shoved the note back in the box, then grabbed the contents and shoved them in his pocket. He shook his head, almost in disbelief of the kind words that were written on the small piece of paper. After all these years of being treated horribly, she sends him off with these things? No! He wouldnt accept this. This could not be the same woman who had always given him the short end of the stick, while his older brother and sister were busy polishing their halos. This was all a lie, some kind of trick! Prosper angrily shoved the box aside, but kept the items because he knew that he would get nowhere without them. He gave Skitty one last hug, setting her down despite her saddened meows of protest. He stopped at the door and took one last look around. He might even miss this place, but he knew that his true calling was out there. He grabbed up his bag and headed out the door, shutting it slowly behind him. He was on his own now but now he knew that this was his place. |

0.3 ![]() Prosper's mother stood at the top of the stairs as her son walked out of the door. Quietly, she let a small sigh. That zenni she gave him, was all that she could afford. Unemployed, divorced, it was everything a middle-aged woman didn't want. What do they call it? The mid-life crisis. Her knuckles whitened as she held her apron. Slowly, she walked down the stairs, and Skitty leapt up to her. She held the warm Pokemon in her arms and continued walking forwards. The door slipped open; Prosper didn't hold it properly. In the twilight, she could almost see his sillhouette; but only almost. Skitty let out a meow, and she stroked her back. "I do love you, my son. And I will miss you." --- Prosper gets 4898 Zenni! A Pokenav and an Escape Rope! SEXY (: |
