(This has sort of a freeform battle in it, but I'm not getting any free Pokemon or anything, and I don't need experience without having any Pokemon, right? :0 )

Sync's clock beeped a few times, signaling that it was time to get up. And it beeped a few more times. And a few more.

"Dammit..." Sync swore, his curse muffled by his thick pillow. He rose up, violently grabbing the clock off his nightstand, and ripped the battery cover off. Tearing the batteries out, he threw them against the wall, then stared at the clock. *Worthless piece of shit,* he thought. He scanned his room; it would be the last time he saw it for a while. On the walls were posters, some of which he didn't even know he had, because the walls were literally covered in them. Some clothes were strewn around on the floor, most of which he would leave behind. His computer was on in the corner, with a few text documents with homework he'd have to turn in to his professor at the Pokemon Academy in order to get his Trainer's License. He dragged himself out of bed and got some clothes out of his closet, then slowly put them on; today would be a hard, boring day indeed.

Walking from his dormitory to the large classroom and training arena in the building next door, he wondered; where would all of this take him? Would he be the champion of the Pokemon League, or would he fail and return home, feeling incomplete? He shuddered at the thought; his father and sister were both accomplished Trainers, and his mother was a star among Coordinators. Would they reject him if he failed?

Inside the classroom, he situated himself in a seat, taking out a pencil and getting ready for his (hopefully) last final. This was it; if he failed this test, he'd be stuck in Little Hillmoss for another year. He glanced over the test; it was easy enough, but he knew what was to come. He had to not only ace the written test, but also pass the field exam.

After he handed in his paper, he walked quietly back to his seat so as not to disturb anyone. He was extremely worried; he had to use strategy to win against a computerized opponent, and, from past experiences with the POHCOS (lolpohcos), it would be tough.

His name was called third, and he slowly walked down the aisle, sweating from nervousness. He was also worried that the fact that he was nervous would hinder his concentration, which made him feel even worse.

The professor, who acted as the judge for all POHCOS battles, stepped up onto his platform. "This will be a one-on-one battle. Remember that all Pokemon used in this simulation are holographic and cannot really damage each other."

He looked down at the simulation panel and was horrified at the outcome; he had a Piplup, and the opponent was a Garchomp. He felt his chances of victory had just been cut in half, and almost immediately thought about withdrawing. However, he noticed he had a rather good movepool on his side, and he was extremely pleased to find that this Piplup had Ice Beam - a move that is not only powerful, but Garchomps are also extremely weak against.

"Begin!"

The Garchomp instantly ran toward his little penguin and slashed its face, causing Piplup to fly through the air and fall backward. It slowly rose up and awaited orders; Sync chose Ice Beam. His Pokemon exhaled a beam of frozen water toward the Garchomp, who swiftly dodged; Garchomp countered with Crunch, which Piplup also dodged. Sync saw this as his opportunity; Piplup was directly facing the huge landshark, which was probably only three or so inches from Piplup's beak. Sync smashed the Ice Beam button, causing Piplup to attack, instantly knocking out Garchomp.

"Garchomp is unable to battle. Sync wins!"

Sync was frozen on the stage for a moment as the two Pokemon and the holographic Trainer disappeared into thin air. He'd done it; he'd passed!

~

The next day, he packed his things with an upbeat attitude; he could get his Trainer License and head out of this stupid academy! Finally, he'd done something worthwhile!

He called his parents and told them the news. They were equally excited for him, lecturing him again on the fun he'd have traveling. They both promised him to support him in any way they could, and he gratefully accepted. Rushing out of his dorm room, he started heading straight for his house. When he got there, he showed his parents his license, and after dinner, rested up for his big journey.

The Rocket That Burns The Heavans Red
As Sync left his house, he was soon intercepted by three of his fellow classmates, each having been just as inept with past tests as he was, and each of them having failed once again the previous day. "Heyyyy, Congrats on the pass-eruni pal" "So THATS what you must have been doing when you should have been partying with us!" "Jokes on him though, I hear we get a cute instructor next semester" They joked amongst themselves.

In the end however, one of them handed him a box. "Its a gift from the three of us... Don't get sappy or anything, just think of it as a congratulatory gift. We'll be keeping our eyes out for you on the boob tube" They said, walking away and waving before quickly ducking into a bar.

Inside the wrapped box would be a stash of 4000 zenni, an escape rope with 3 charges, and even a brand new poketech! Quite odd that they could afford something like that, as they had kept inviting you out to dinners and having you get the tab, claiming they were all broke.
