Saint Michala's Monastery was a small brick temple built two miles south of Little Hillmoss. It's only claim to fame, besides being one of the few Arceus temples in Opadekka (the religion was by far most popular in Kanto), were the expansive grape fields that were the beginning of the valuable Michala's Wine. The wine was shipped out to wineries all around Opadekka, and was the main source of income of Saint Michala's temple. Normally, the Arceus monks and nuns kept to themselves, and were rarely seen by the people of Little Hillmoss. The interior of the temple looked like any holy place. A stained glass window depicting Arceus the All-Being let in the morning light, sending rainbows of colored light cascading across the pews. Directly below that was a portrait of Saint Michala, a scientist who was one of the first to encounter Arceus, and soon dedicated her life to discovering many then-unknown facts about the God Pokemon. Below that was a table with sacraments, and a priest, who was speaking with a woman knelt on the steps before him. "Sister Adina." Father Maxim began, looking down at the teenage girl, clothed in a nun's habits. She had been left on the church's doorstep as an infant, like so many others, and raised to follow her sister's into the life of clergy. She had recently claimed that she didn't want this life. She wanted to go out, explore the world, and earn the right to encounter the god Arceus, instead of preaching how to to eager trainers. "I hope you understand the path you are choosing. We can not protect you on this road." "Yes, father." The girl kept her eyes low, though she could see Father Maxim in her mind clear as day. She had received many scoldings, being the curious and adventurous child she was, and this could possibly be the last of them. For years she dreamed of adventuring beyond the walls, beyond Little Hillmoss, and following the path so many her age did. "I have studied, though, and prayed. I think this is what Arceus would want of me." Her eyes cast up to the stained glass window, and eventually fall upon the priest, wide-eyed and wanting. The priest looked down upon Adina, the girl he and the nuns had raised as a daughter. She was growing old. She could no longer be so contained. She would not be satisfied with a life of piety and servitude. "Very well..." He said at length, with a great sigh. They had agreed today would be the day, but it was hard to let his child go. Resting by the table of sacraments was a backpack the nuns had packed for Adina, which he now held out to Adina. Standing, she took the bag and looked through it. There were two other habits, which she had agreed to wear during her journey to promote the church, and some dried food and rations. In a side pocket was a PokeNav, a navigating device, and when she opened it she saw three icons, indicating three Escape Rope charges, flashing on the screen. Another pocket held a coin purse, and she counted the money with satisfaction. Father Maxim cleared his throat gruffly, and turned away. "Well, I suppose you'll be running- oof!" He exhaled as Adina grabbed him tightly in a hug, and smiled and patted the girls arm. "All right, you young one, be off! You'll need to be at the lab early, think of which of Arceus' children you want to accompany you." Kissing Adina on the cheek, he smiled broadly as she ran down the center aisle and through the double doors, the proud smile of a father watching his young take hold of their lives for the first time. Outside, Adina made her rounds, hugging the nuns who were awake this early and bidding her farewells. After ensuring that she had left no one without a good-bye, Adina faced the road leading to Little Hillmoss. "Okay, girl, this is it." She took a deep breath, and looked up into the sky, where Arceus watched over them. "Please, Arceus, watch over me." She clasped her hands in prayer, then slowly took one step, then another. Soon, she was making her terrified walk towards Little Hillmoss, and the start of her journey as a trainer, to prove herself worthy of one day meeting Arceus. When she looks back and can no longer see Saint Michala's, she grows more confident, and her footsteps quicken. Her companion was waiting for her. |

Righteous. And, apparently, the people of Opaddeka were drunkards, because the wine business was booming; the church had enough money that sparing 5000z for Sister Adina's expenses was no imposition. |
