Chapter One Possession The clock tower struck twelve followed by the chime of twelve bells afterwards. Ashdell had grown dark over the last few hours with stores closing their doors and houses no longer illuminated. It had shut down effectively to give it's weary citizens a period of rest. Tomorrow would bring an even more difficult agenda. It was a time to forget and drift away in slumber and dreams. People were blissfully unaware of nightly activity even under their noses. Shugo Getsufuhma wasn't one of those drifting in ignorant dreams for the moment. Weavile connected a blade to the bulb on Dragonair's tail as they clashed with the hiss of their metal weapons connecting. They both bounded back a few feet with their bodies weighted with fatigue. Weavile dropped to one knee before it tossed both of its arms outward. Dark orbs of energy launched from all sides that focused towards the serpent. Onzi's tail was used to deflect a few with ease. However, their number increased and forced it into drastic measures. It twisted the length of it's body at high speeds which drew the remaining sparks of energy into a vortex that Onzi created. Weavile smirked at the familiar tactic and swiped both paws together. Shugo smiled from afar and clapped both hands together impressed with both of their abilities. Weavile bent forward in a bow of respect. The Dragonair would comply with a dip of it's head. Even after their endeavors in Kevin Baconville, the clawed creature had followed to assist in Shugo's training. Perhaps it saw potential after being defeated by a small margin. They had been engaged in this type of late night exercise for roughly a week. Just outside of the large dormitory was a lonely woman who had just departed from her group of friends. She waved and giggled in a bubbly fashion before turning to walk in the direction of her apartment. Against her better judgment, she had chosen to stray from the pack and travel alone in a large city. Perhaps the alcohol was behind her reasoning. She stumbled along the paved sidewalk before nearly toppling on her face. Luckily, she was able to grasp a lamppost for a brace. She coughed and heaved a bit. Her stomach wasn't as loyal as it was before; a mixture of alcohol and fried foods was leaving a sour feeling in her gut. As such, her balance was being compromised. The female lifted her body with an ounce of strength and continued to travel to her homestead. Following a few meters behind was a transparent being. A light violet outline of it's body could be seen, but it wasn't anything human. An oval shaped aura was created that wasn't visible unless beneath a street light. It floated at a controlled pace to keep distance between it and the victim chosen. It released a sickening hiss from some orifice. The girl's pupils shrunk when it reached her ears causing her to stop and glance over her shoulder. Unfortunately, no light revealed her stalker. She hesitantly returned to her sluggish walk. But again came the horrifying sound. She had watched stories about these types of scenarios on the news and in the papers; females alone in the late hours being stalked by someone. It would lead to a heist, rape, or even death. Fear swarmed over her being causing her to sweat. Now it was just an ordeal to reach that doorway just a block away. Regret and woe filled her mind. Why didn't she chose to go with her friends that evening instead of making the walk alone? Could that single decision had lead to her downfall? She was so focused on her own remorse that she couldn't feel the wind pick up moments later. A garbage can was tossed in front of her path with a loud clatter. She shrilled in a panic and darted away from that path. That scream carried across the street and blocks away. - - - - - Shugo's ear perked up at the blood-curdling scream that broke through the parking lot where he and the creatures stood. Onzi and the Weavile also picked up on it. His instincts caused his feet to break into a sprint and fuel him from the hotel's lot and onto the sidewalk in the direction of the voice in need of aid. The Dragonair leaped into action and began to glide behind his trainer also curious of the noise. Weavile launched towards a parked van and bolted in a blurred motion behind his apprentice. Ever since he had assisted the Stark family, the protagonist had a natural sense of duty. He felt as though it was his place to protect and oversee. Sure, he was nothing short of a normal boy but it was nice to think of himself as a hero of sorts. Her luck had depleted as she had chosen a dead end alleyway with a large metal fence with barbed wire coils at the top. She raced as far as those wobbly knees would carry her before she collapsed in a damp puddle. Another scream came followed by another hiss from the hollowed creature whilst it closed in. Still, the girl couldn't see her violet attacker. The floating orb began to glow into clear vision as it focused on the female's neck. Kinetic forces prepare to grip her throat and choke her very last breath into oblivion. However, Shugo turned the corner with a shocked look to see the spirit looming in the alleyway above the fallen victim. Onzi was on his tail with the same dumbfounded look. Twin eyes locked onto the interfering boy. Despite this shock he felt a need to protect this stranger. The ideals of being a hero were too much for him to comprehend. He waved a hand in front of his chest while Shugo spoke in a loud overpowering tone. Leave her alone! Pick on someone else, take me on! With pleasure, thought the spirit. A catalyst for it's misdeeds. The situation had grown too perfect. In a burst of dark colors, the outline of the spirit revealed it's face before diving into the vessel of the boy. The face of a Spiritomb. Shugo fell to his knees with a heavy grunt. The girl thought she was saved and breathed a sigh of relief. She found her balance and stood to both feet and smiled. Thanks for that, little guy! You must've scared it off... She said in a cheerful tone. The figure of the boy rose to his feet slowly without raising his head. Onzi was also elated to see that the spirit had fled. However, few had seen that Shugo's pupils were now violet instead of the traditional jade. The lumbering body pointed an outstretched hand toward the standing girl with his fingers drawing within to form a fist. That same kinetic feeling struck her neck and writhed it with ghostly strength. The victim gasped for a breath of air but couldn't find one. Loyal serpent could only watch in confusion as his trainer performed some odd gripping pose. He coiled around the boy's ankle and constricted to try and cease his action but the effort was ignored. Within a few seconds her lips ran red with drops of blood that trickled down her chin. Her last thought was the remorse of not taking that ride offered by a close friend; perhaps it could've changed everything. Eyes remained shut and her body fell limp like a rag doll. Shugo released the telekinetic grip on her neck and dropped the corpse to the puddle below. From a rooftop above, Weavile watched intently before scratching his chin. He stood and began to walk away at a slow pace after watching the events unfold. Who could've thought that such a gentle boy would spill innocent blood? But this creature knew of the true reasoning for his nature. Shugo was no longer in control. Onzi gasped in horror and couldn't bare to look at his master. Shugo's eye line was raised from the shadow to reveal flaring purple pupils and a menacing smirk. He muttered a single word. Fun. |

Chapter 2 Reversal of Fortune The Dragonair gazed into the boy's eyes with sorrow. Shugo's never been known to harm another that was undeserving, why would attempt on someone else's life and consider it enjoyable? Something had changed in him due to that spirit; the eye color for one. Onzi jerked his leg once again causing Shugo to drop to his right knee. The catalyst looked over his shoulder with a menacing scowl and waved a hand to the right causing ominous winds to cast the serpent to the ground a few feet ahead. He cracked his neck to the right and scoffed at the attempt to bring him down. Away with you, lizard. The boy winced and gripped his wrist from whence the telekinetic swipe erupted; it caused tension in his muscles. This body wasn't used to otherworldly abilities and that left him vulnerable. The Spiritomb knew he would have to rest this vessel if it would be of any use to him. For now he would allow the true spirit of this boy to be released and regain control. If it had to, it could just break out once again and dowse any attempts on his life. At that moment, Shugo's eyes sealed and reopened with their traditional emerald coloring. Confusion racked his mind as to the perpetual skip from his understanding. His eyes locked onto the corpse only feet behind him lying in a pool of mire. Mouth remained agape with a ghastly gleam in his once innocent eyes. Never had he seen someone dead in front of him. Onzi crawled towards in fear that he would lash out with those esoteric abilities once again. Instead, a tear slid down the lad's right cheek. Shugo broke down and began to sob; even without being in control of his actions something allowed him to view his own hand taking the girl's final breath. Those same screams for mercy were directed at him. He who never once thought of taking an innocents life had shed blood in a matter of moments. The thought was absolutely mortifying. He clutched his face which was now covered in sweat and tears while the Dragonair nuzzled his ribs. Onzi noticed the change between this dark being and the real master whom he had come to love. With that Shugo was on his feet. He barreled from the alleyway and down the street the opposite of which he came earlier. Without guidance or reason to stay, all he knew to do was to run. Fleeing from this scene and gathering his head could help settle things. In all honesty, he didn't know what could settle his nerves after he just slew a random woman. Things became a blur with terror filling his only thoughts as he eventually arrived at a local park and stopped amidst a thicket of trees to rest. He slumped against the base and wiped the tears from his cheeks. This spirit had invaded his body and possibly receded after committing this crime. Someone would find the girl's corpse and then the authorities would swarm the city to seek out the murderer. Could they locate him if he never physically touched her? Shugo tried to reason with himself that if he could flee that he would be able to lie low until the case goes dormant. Weavile, Vile... A shadow dropped from the trees ahead of him whilst it spoke. Weavile's raven figure approached. Shugo panicked assume that he saw everything unfold and would attempt to bring him to justice. He backed against the tree and braced his arms over his face while shouting. I don't know what happened! It wasn't me doing that-... I mean, it was but it wasn't, Weavile! It nodded and raised both claws to show it wasn't here out of spite for the girl's death. There was no way for them to communicate outside of actions and facial expressions, so Weavile tried his best to explain. It drew an oval shape in the air to symbolize the spirit and then pointed to the boy's chest to show that it had invaded his body and harnessed control. Shugo seemed to be in a daze as he watched and tried to connect the pieces of the situation. So... that thing... it's got control of my body? And... it killed that woman using my body? The tone of his voice was meek. Weavile nodded and scratched its chin in a perplexed pose. The question was how to purge his being of this Spiritomb. Onzi continued to clutch the boy's arm to try and console him; he believed that it was some otherworldly thing that caused him to act in that manner and would stand by him in order to help. In all honesty, Shugo had no where to go. The lad closed his eyes as tight as he could and tried to forget and just rest. The Dragonair did the same while Weavile stepped away for a few moments while it bounded up the oak tree to an overseeing position; he would watch for danger while the boy slept. This would also give him time to figure out where to go next. - - - - - And you said he didn't even touch the girl? That's right, officer.... he just gripped his hand and choked her without even grabbing her! The older woman sounded very flustered. I see.... we'll take that into consideration and start a search immediately. He didn't sound amused at all, as if he didn't believe her. The office rolled his eyes as he walked away from the witness over to the alleyway where the murder had occurred. It was now lined in yellow tape with many men dressed in black and navy inspecting the entire scene. The interrogation officer approached a detective dressed in a similar fashion. She said the kid used a psychic ability to choke the girl. What a load... There were no fingerprints, you know, said the detective while staring at the body now covered in a black tarp. Gloves could've covered up those. At least we know we're looking for someone with white hair. Not exactly common. No, it's not. Get all available squad cars circling the area and expand in a ten mile radius outward. He's a kid on foot, he won't get too far. With that he turned away and headed over to his own vehicle. The eye-witness account wasn't exactly believable but with creatures such as pokemon in this world, it wouldn't be so far fetched. The detective had an uneasy feeling about this report. A grimace across his face was enough to determine that. |

Chapter 3 Abandonment Weavile shook Shugo in order to wake him which caused him to yawn. It was a mystery as to how he could sleep with a murder still on his mind. The sharp claw beast pointed outside of the thicket where they rested only to see flashes of red and blue in the streets. He froze in fear and didn't move; they had finally taken action and the police were hunting for the homicidal maniac. Onzi slithered upright next to the battle-honed creature and watched the lights as well. Weavile turned quickly and sliced through a bush to the south of the group revealing a dirt path. Perhaps it would lead to safety. Shugo mustered the energy to move and struck the first pokeball hanging on his belt loop to withdraw his most loyal companion for safety purposes. Both of them darted down the dirt path. Again, all he knew to do was run. They broke through another thicket of weeds and neared the sidewalk opposite of the block. While the police cars would probably attempt to search the park as it was an obvious place to hide, they could escape Ashdell by sticking on the opposite path of the Police. Shugo glanced to and fro to ensure the coast was clear and broke for a corridor between two small buildings with Weavile close behind. As soon as he reached the yellow crossing line between both roads the familiar flashes circled from both streets. Pursuit vehicles came to a screeching halt with officers jerking from all sides armed with fire arms. They were aimed at the teenager. Get down on the ground! You're under arrest for homicide; recall your pokemon at once and fall to the ground slowly! An overpowering voice called out to the pair. Shugo swallowed and raised both hands into the air open palmed. He glanced to Weavile who was now guarding its face with both clawed paws. While they exchanged a glance, the boy shook his head. Retaliation would only cause more trouble for them both. For the boy, his life flashed before his very eyes as he felt his world and dreams crumble. The spirit awakened. It wouldn't allow his vessel to be harmed after a ripe opportunity had allowed it to be taken. Shugo gripped his temple in vibrant pain whilst his pupils regained the violet hue. He fell to both knees while he grit all of his teeth and groaned. Weavile's eyes shrunk as he knew what had just occurred. An even worse feeling than the pain of the transition was that the boy knew he would be forced to watch what would follow. The officers remained vigilant with their weapons marked and fingers resting on each trigger. Finally, the detective from before stepped from his own car and stared at the writhing child just meters away. What stunt was he trying to pull? A handgun was retrieved from a holster hidden in his coat and aimed at the boy. The detective wanted to know what type of show he was putting on. Was it for mercy? The boy stood slowly to his feet which only made each officer's grip on their triggers tighter. He didn't comply with their demands which caused their leader to bark into the megaphone once again. I said get down on the ground with your hands behind your head, now! Three spheres were thrown from the belt around Shugo's waist as if by psychic force. Each snapped in rapid succession to reveal the outlines of three different creatures. First was a blue dinosaur that reared its head and released a roar. Second was an immature plant creature that sat quietly with both eyes shut. Third was a yellow rat with sparks emitting from the cheeks and bolted tail. Each gazed at the uniformed men and then to their master confused as to why they were summoned. Shugo raised a finger in the direction of the officers. You three, eradicate them. The spirit conveyed such a monotone voice. Ivysaur quirked an eyebrow and just stood their staring into the ominous eyes of Shugo. They showed nothing but animosity. He'd never acted in this manner before. Croconaw and Raichu stared at one another as if to inquire of the situation. Each policeman heard the command by the child and awaited permission to fire. Their leader remained with his hand held high as a signal to hold. His creatures weren't obeying his orders. Shugo snarled and waved his hand once again in desperation. I said ATTACK! I am your master, go now! Cesare wasn't amused and shook its head. The spirit changed the eyes to a piercing glare as it lashed with a swipe of his palm causing a transparent wave of energy to surge forward at the plant. Ivysaur bounded to the left narrowly dodging the assault while Croconaw and Raichu stood next to their peer. It seemed that they weren't going to obey a malicious order; this wasn't the boy they had come to love and respect. Ivysaur reared backward and sent a triad of leaves towards the male that were deflected by a kinetic shield. Worthless, all of you. How dare you obey your master. I'll break you... His voice trailed off while he attempted to conjure an ominous wind to sweep the insubordinates. However, Weavile's claws slashed across Shugo's shoulder and sent him to the ground on all fours. The spirit forced its teeth to bare as it leaped back to both feet and clenched both fists to force spheres of dark energy from the pours on his skin. Each surged in a different direction which scraped a few police cars, buildings and knocked Raichu onto it's back after a hefty blow to the stomach. Inside his own body the boy screamed and cried for help. His most loyal companions were being repelled by this devilish spirit. He tried so hard to gain control and cease this from happening but he failed with every clash. The spirit had a firm grip on the mind. What am I now?! Why is this thing attacking them?! Stop it, demon! They aren't a part of this! Please stop! Please! I have to help them! His shouts fell on deaf ears. He was going literally insane with grief. A bolt of electricity clipped the boy's calf causing the spirit to panic. There was far too much interference here, but he couldn't allow them to capture the boy. This was his means for wreaking havoc across the globe; without a catalyst it was just another pokemon that could be captured. It was for protection. The Spiritomb's eyes darted from left to right to seek out an escape route. Officers had been directed to apprehend without lethal force and approached. Teenager's eyebrows flared of a violet color as he sprinted at break-neck speeds for the park once again. Weavile began to pursue and waved his hand for the others to follow. Croconaw and Raichu complied but Ivysaur remained stationary. By turning his head upright in disgust, he was able to signify he was severing the bond from the trainer. After everything he did for Shugo and he was repaid with being attacked and forced with malicious orders against the law? He would have no part as hard as it was to be rebellious. Cesare gave a final look to the fleeing boy before it began a jog down a southern street for whereabouts unknown. Shugo's spirit clawed for release to try and apologize but he couldn't break the barrier between the impurity and himself. If he could sob, he would've. Sadly, he didn't even have the control to weep. They all stopped briefly at a thicket to try and surmise their location and the next location to flee to. Croconaw stopped once they entered and spat at the ground after a moment of thought. The Weavile dropped next to it and flailed its arms and speaking in a foreign tongue trying to convince him that it wasn't the man he knew controlling his actions. Electrical rodent would snap his tail across the ground and shook its head firmly before it bolted to a bush. A final glance was given to the boy who had raised him until he sighed and leaped into a sprint. Again, Shugo's inner self screamed to be freed. Another friend gone because what this ghost did under the guise of the boy. In one brief moment he was losing everything dear to him because he tried to do the right thing. How could doing justice go punished to such a degree? It was too much for the boy to handle; he was baffled. Before they knew it, Croconaw had followed the other pokemon through the woods making a final exit as well. Shugo's body began to writhe forcing the Spiritomb to bring its hands to the face. Tears of pain and remorse poured from his eyes and dampened his cheeks. Awful howls of torment bellowed from his mouth as he broke down to the ground. The protagonist and antagonist clashed for control of the vessel. Whatever the hell you are, get out of my head! Quit destroying everything I have! I don't even know who I am anymore! The shouts were full of anger and confusion. How was he to rectify this mistake? Shugo truly didn't understand what he had done to deserve his world being shattered by a random spirit. Hatred and sadness were the only feelings he knew. Even as the swirling lights enclosed on their little meadow, it meant nothing to him without his companions. Without his identity, he just wished to die. Ending this suffering was the only way to escape the struggle between this impostor. All sides were closing in and his options depleted. The boy gripped his temples. Outside the corner of his eye, Shugo viewed figures circling the area while they shouted at one another. It was time to put an end to this one way or another. As the Spiritomb fought for control, the boy forced to his feet and began to hobble towards oncoming officers. Maybe they would be ordered to slay him, he hoped. Why live where your body was used only for misdeeds? His identity was destroyed; he had nothing to remain on this Earth for. Weavile thought quickly and sliced a claw through the air causing a black aftershock to surge into the boy's thigh knocking the first pokeball to the ground. A blinding flash forced the officers to halt and raise their firearms. Shugo continued to walk towards them with a somber expression. Kill me... End this suffering... please... He sounded so helpless. Before he could reach them, the shimmering scales of a dragon swept underneath his weight and pushed into the skies passed narrow branches and limbs. Weavile clutched to the beast's tail while they surged upward passed the foliage and soared to the south. Officers fired a few shots that missed because of the speed that they fled. One placed a communication device to his mouth while pressing a trigger to relay a message. Subject has fled the area. Requesting support to fan out in a ten mile radius. Shugo's frustration and mentality was too much to bare. He hadn't even realized that Onzi was carrying him to safety over the buildings straining to maintain flight with the both of them; he'd never done this before. The lad passed out cold still writhing over his comrades who had abandoned him. Pokemon he devoted to training and caring for had seen something that wasn't him and discarded their time over a mistake. |

Epilogue He's still unconscious, Onzi. Wait, he's coming around! said an unfamiliar voice. Shugo had a raging headache that caused him to rub his temples. His vision was blurry but the faint image of Weavile and Dragonair loomed over his figure. They had laid him down across a bed of leaves. Surrounding the area was sandy terrain with a few craters created by falling pieces of hardened magma. A towering formation of mountains was to the south of their position. He seemed to be far from the city limits of Ashdell. Ugh... my head.... did I pass out or something? Onzi nodded his head lowly and nuzzled into Shugo's shoulder. Evidently he was still as loyal as ever which was some relief. The raven colored pokemon looked over to the serpent and spoke in a foreign pokemon language. However, it didn't sound that way to the boy's ears. He's still going to be in a state of shock. I don't know of anyone who could purge this Spiritomb out of him but we'll have to search. Weavile sounded quite intelligent. In shock, both pupils expanded and caused Shugo to jump backward from the leaves into a dune behind him. A shaking finger pointed at the sharp claw which stared oddly at him. H-how in the w-world did you just talk? Like, English talk? You... understand what I'm saying, inquired Weavile. The boy meekly nodded and brushed himself off before standing up. Weavile scratched at its chin in curiosity. All the while Onzi watched the both of them and their reactions which he thought were quite humorous. Dragon giggles could be heard as it tried to muffle them with the tail. I suppose that the Spiritomb has an odd trait that allows you to understand common pokespeak, Shugo. Perhaps its similar to those other telekinetic abilities it used when in control. Spiritomb? So, it's a pokemon or something? And I guess... that means... its still inside of me... His mood seemed to take a sharp drop. Don't fret. I'm sure there is a way to remove it from your body. We'll just have to search for it. What's the point? Ashdell is totally against me... Even Cesare, Droude and Kokoshu abandoned me... The boy tucked his head between his arms while he drew both knees to his chest. He had never felt so alone knowing that part of the world was against him, or rather, this thing that has taken control. His friends had always been his strength. Without them he felt as weak as a bird without wings. Onzi continued to nuzzle him. I'm still here, and so are Peregrine and Musashi! We won't leave ya, Shugo! His voice in English was surprisingly jolly. Indeed we are. You've come a long way with the training we've done and I can't very well leave a student in need. So I'll be accompanying you. "Wait, you're coming with me? As like, a captured pokemon?" "You wouldn't abandon the Stark family. Nor would you let that helpless girl had you the control of your body. You've a good heart... and I won't abandon you." A firm nod followed. Shugo stroked a palm along the dragonair's mane and smiled weakly. He nodded to the Weavile who continued to ponder their next action. There's a village south of here called Tromante. I suppose we can retreat there and gather some information. We could use more on Spiritomb and its far too dangerous to remain in Ashdell. Shugo nodded and scooped up the band of his knapsack and slipped it over his right shoulder. Expression was still somewhat grim as he seemed worried. What if the spirit emerges again and causes more chaos? However, he was able to cast it out of desperation. Perhaps if he retains a strong will and builds his mind, he could learn to keep it in check. For the time being, it would be a heavy burden to bare. But his most loyal allies haven't abandoned him unlike others and don't plan on it anytime soon. Shugo moved forward off of the beaten path fearing the darkness inside of him. Acting in the name of justice had caused an unjust fate. His pace slowed as he began to wonder if it was worth continuing. Carrying on in a cursed life was something most couldn't handle. Friendship was going to have to keep his spirits high. For the moment, it was all he had. This wound wasn't going to heal as easily as any other. This was one wound time couldn't touch. ---- Freeform Summary ---- -Ivysaur, Croconaw, and Raichu have all abandoned Shugo PERMANENTLY. -Shugo is currently wanted in Ashdell. -The Spiritomb still resides in his body dormant and can emerge when it has enough strength and overcomes Shugo's will. Learning Pokespeak is a side effect of this. -Weavile has joined Shugo due to the natural sense of duty he has seen in the boy and his desire to assist him. |

Alllllllrighty then. Well, I do have to say that you certainly did your English homework. Shugo's hubris brought about his ultimate downfall. I find the example you made of that was executed nicely, as this could easily be categorized as a tale of a Tragic Hero. Hopefully Shugo has learned that launching himself into situations to be the big hero may not always be the best choice. Unfortunately, I wasn't as impressed as I expected to be =/ Where it was a creative spin on things, and you were definitely true to what Pokemon has described Spiritomb, I felt that the storyline could've been developed more, and told in a smooth, more fluent manner. I've been finding it odd when you kinda randomly spew sentences using future tense in your writing. Try re-reading your work with an open mind, and possibly have someone else read it to get a second opinion. If you are a book reader, try to study sentence patterns that your favorite authors use. And finally, your reward. You have two options: Either Weavile joins your team and you get 0 ![]() OR You get 12.2 and you try again to get Weavile to -actually- join your teamSowwe Thanks for playing. |
