"Three O' clock. Three O' damn clock," Zero repetatively muttered to himself in a matter that would put any attentive listener into an almost unbrakeable trance. The sound of construction rung through the open window of Zero's small bedroom. It was unclear to Zero why the government would asign noisy construction work, in the middle of a heavily populated neighborhood, at an hour that almost all the residents would be trying to rest, but it was the Hillmoss City government he was talking about so to him it wasn't that surprising. In Zero's mind the very idea of time began to slow down in his world, and instead of the repetative jackhammer being heard at a rate of five times per second it slowed to what seemed to be only once per two to three seconds. As every beat of the jackhammer made a larger hole in the ground where they were working a scrowl came from the lips of an increasingly aggrivated Zero. As distracting as the noise of the construction could be Zero slipped his hands under his pillow, and his pillow over his ears and fell into a deep sleep. In two hours the construction had finished, and while many of the members of the town that the construction had awakened fell peacefully back to sleep there was one member who was more awake then when the construction was going on, and that man was no other than Zero's father. Zero's father stared out of the kitchen window where he was standing perplexed at what had been going on the past few hours. After a good second sleep, about seven hours after his first awakening Zero struggled to push himself out of bed. After a curiously hot night the feeling that the cold floor gave Zero's sweaty feet was almost perfect. Zero shut his eyes in a desperate attempt to enjoy one of the most perfect moments he had ever felt. The cool that his feet was giving the rest of his body made him fall into a place in his own mind that was as serene as an empty church. After the hot night the strong cool breeze that blew through Zero's opened window brushed his long hair to Zero's left shoulder and blew off the drops of sweat that were dangling from the back of his neck. The more he stood motionless the better the feeling of the floorboards against his feet made him feel, but as most other near-perfect feelings Zero had felt throughout his young life, it did not last. The entrance of Zero's father into Zero's small bedroom was almost delayed by Zero's standards. Zero's father's short, stocky stature by most in the town was considered not only menacing but respectful, but to Zero it was nothing more than another piece of his life that at the most inopportune time had to reveal itself. Zero quickly jerked his head over towards his father, but he did not have to say anything as the look that was across his face could be deciphered by anyone with an IQ over twenty as being filled with determination, confidence, and a slight ounce of anger. Zero's father had always been adamant about being completley against his son's decision to start his adventure six months ago, and as a congressman tried to do everything in his political power to indirectly derail his sons dreams. The construction the night before was significant to the entire Podlesh family even though to the youngest, Zero, it was still unknown. The construction was being done in an effort by the city to repair the only known road towards Professor Willow's Laboratory. Zero's father had, months before, known that the repair of the road was scheduled for a week before Zero was scheduled to leave. With that knowledge Zero's father had used a fairly plausible explanation to try and convince the city council that the repairs to that specific road were to much of a monetary loss to bother with until the city had acquired more money, and it being a fact that the city had no true interestin the road itself agreed to congressman Podlesh's proposal and delayed the repair of the road for three additional months. Upon news by Zero's mother, a mere three days before the day that Zero and his father were currently experiencing, she, a highly respected headmistress at the largest local junior high school, pleaded her case to the council, went against her husbands desires and told the entire truth to the council in an attempt to restore her son's dreams. As much as this feud in his own family was affecting the lives of those closest to him Zero had no idea of the feud and had been preparing just like any other young man would when he decided to go out on his own. Even Zero's father was certain that his plan had succeeded and was not sure why the repairs had been made on the road when the city promised they would not. When Zero's father inquired about the night's events to the council a mere hours before; the council explained the revelation that Zero's mother had given them half a week before, and also explained to him that the council was delegating wether he should be jailed for using his political power to sway the citizens to give him personal power as well. Zero's father just looked at Zero with his narrow brown eyes and stared nearly into the uttermost depths of his soul with his newfound hate for Zero and his mother. As Zero looked toward his father the only thought that was running through his mind was the aggrivating sound the cherrywood door to his bedroom was making as it swung slowly back in forth like a pendulum. "Get downstairs boy," Zero's father angrily started as he pointed his right index finger down the stairs that could be seen in the distance from Zero's opened door. "Now!" Zero's father yelled as a vein that stretched across his forehead began to pulsate. Zero's father stomped on the floor, making a noise echoe throughout the room as he stopped the door from swinging and began grinding his teeth. Zero wasn't sure what was going on but he obeyed his father. Zero pushed himself out of bed and put on his sandals as, with his head down, he began to walk down the long hallway that led to the stairwell. Zero took one mere glance back at his father and the tears that were flowing down his cheek as he followed his son down the stairs. The stairs were three flights long and to Zero seemed never ending. Zero saw his mother downstairs with her long blonde hair convering her face and tears. She rested her head on the white walls that surrounded the kitchen as she began signing two papers. Zero couldn't help but glance at the papers his mother was signing and what he saw nearly crushed his heart and determination in an instance. The papers both said in dark, bold lettering Divorce Settlement. Zero began to breath heavily, with his black eyes wide open looking at the matching brown tiles that looked like an ocean to Zero on the floor of the kitchen. Zero didn't make a sound, and the only noise that could be heard was the hard march of his father down the stairway behind him. Zero's father looked at him and muttered, "You know whats going on dont you?" At sixteen Zero was no stranger to divorce. Many of his friends' parents had gotten a divorce but he had never thought, by the way his parents showed affection for one another, that they would ever get a divorce; especially one as messy as this one turned out the be. "Dad, If I may ask. Why?" Zero stumbled to say he slowly turned his head toward his father. Zero's father responded almost immediatley to his son with, "Because that bitch standing in front of you jailed me." Zero's father said as punched his son in the back and watched as he stumbled foward. "It was a good sixteen years boy," congressman Podlesh finished as he walked outside and into the police car that awaited him. Everything was a blur to Zero at that moment. He had never gotten a direct answer from his mother who was still in denial at the decision she made or from his father who had been taken away for what Zero thought could've been any possible crime. He walked over to his mom and put his hand on her shoulder. "It'll be alright mom, just please be alright without me," Zero whispered in her ear as he walked to the front door. Outside the sound of the police car speeding off to the county police station nothing could be heard inside the Podlesh household. The only thing that broke the silence after three full minutes that must've seemed like three hours was the sound of Zero's mother turning her tear-drenched face towards her son and saying, "Take care of yourself. I know you will." With the good blessing of his mother, the heavy heart left to Zero by his father and a bag given to him many months ago by his uncle upon the announcement of his journey. As Zero's tears dripped on the newly constructed road to Professor Willow's Lab Zero slowly began to open the bag to find... |

... That it was filled with money. You quickly shifted it out onto the ground, and spotted a sleek, black, brand-new PokeTech, and a strange box with a button on it marked, 'Escape Rope' in the bottom of the bag. Then you went back to the money, and counted it out. 4900z. |
